So @gayfergus sent me these amazing pictures of two rare Disney Dolls that came out in the 90s of a couple of Mermaid girls meant to be Ariel's friends

Don't know why her box art tail and shell colors are different then the dolls but gotta say I adore how she has a underwater Walkman xD

Nothing says 90s Teen like a Walkman! Even if its under the sea and before the invention of electronic x)

I dunno the 'Swimman” probably works with magic or 'eel-lectricity' or something xD

Looking up these two led me to find Ariel’s other “Cool Teen” friend (my gosh that’s so ‘Hello fellow kids’):

Who apparently has a “Shell-o-phone” (can’t be a Shellphone cuz it has a seaweed cord I love it xD)

Also Cool Teen Ariel apparently came with under water Pizza xD

But I love that this adds to Ariel have more friends/peers and that so many of them are POC!

As much as I adore Lilo & Stitch: The Series and Kim Possible, I don't think my brain returns to any Saturday Cartoon Adventures more than:

Aladdin: The Series - Remember the one where the cat goddess is kidnapping children and turning them into monsters? Or the one where there's a prophecy that Aladdin will die? Or the one where Genie is being hunted by the last of a race of magic-vampires? Or the one where Aladdin is being possessed by the vanquished sorcerer Mozenrath's (what a name) spirit through his magic glove? Or the one where Aladdin literally crosses over with Hercules?

The Little Mermaid: The Series - I think about that episode where she gets sucked down into the trippy, surreal Wonderland trench and can't escape probably every week. Go to Disney Plus and find that episode, it's called "Charmed," it's worth it.

The Legend of Tarzan - Like every episode is burned in my brain forever. The Opar episodes where he'd rather die than choose anybody but Jane, even after he thinks she's dead. The one with the Mad Elephant where Tantor thinks he's contracted the same illness. The one with DINOSAURS. The one where the new radio tower makes every animal go insane and try to kill Tarzan and Jane. The one where a different ape challenges Tarzan for leadership and WINS. The one where Jane's friends come to the jungle to rescue her. The one where Tarzan gets locked in like a prison camp with Teddy Roosevelt?! The one with a magical healing albino gorilla?! The one with Kerchak's old rival Tublat coming to try and take over the gorilla family in a series of traps? ! The one with the giant snake?! The one where Tarzan gets bit by a spider and almost DIES?! The one where Clayton's sister comes and forces Tarzan to choose between saving himself from poison or saving all of his loved ones from several death traps in time?! The one where the African tribes from the Tarzan books help Tarzan find a cure for a deadly disease in special two-part episodes?! The one with a WWII spy coming and trying to steal Jane's affections while simultaneously looking for war information he left in a music box he sent to her?! WHY IS THIS NOT ON DISNEY+?!

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command - Skilled. Courageous. And ever-vigilant. Leaping into action, it's BUZZ LIGHTYEAR, of STAR! COMMAND! I'm tired of having to dig around the Internet to watch episodes like The Wirewolf where an old Space Ranger buddy gets turned into a machine-mauling cybernetic wolf monster by the light of a radioactive moon, or the one where an "energy vampire" named N0S4-A2 tries to eat Buzz's robot friend.

Come on. We got The Little Mermaid: The Series. That Tarzan & Jane movie isn't enough! WHERE ARE THE REST OF THEM, DISNEY

It’s still MerMay! Thanks to a conversation with someone on Instagram, I was reminded of one of my favorite childhood characters and how similar he is to my current favorite character. So I knew I had to draw them together! 😂

Ariel's fam;

Melody and Ellie are Eric and Ariel's daughters.

Arabella is the daughter of Adella and Taz.

Cordelia is the daughter of Attina and Tedrick (who dyed his hair to distinguish himself from his cousin, Taz, to avoid anymore mix ups).

Avisa is Aquata and Nexar's daughter.

Míngzé is (adopted) Alana and Maximilian Westergaard's kid.

Flip is Marlon (Ariel's cousin)'s kid.

Shelly is Andrina and Neptony's kid.

Finn and Fluke are Arista and Dylan's (adopted) kids.

Disney Couples - TV Series

The Legend of Tarzan is one of the more unique Disney shows when it comes to Disney couples. In most of the series set after the events of their movies, it always features the couples as either engaged or dating before ultimately tying the knot. Tarzan and Jane on the other hand are the only Disney couple to actually be married on their show and end up celebrating their 1 year anniversary in the series finale.

Aladdin: The Series - Aladdin and Jasmine - Engaged

Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure - Rapunzel and Eugene - Dating

The Legend of Tarzan - Tarzan and Jane - Married

As for some of the other couples like Ariel and Eric from The Little Mermaid or Hercules and Meg from Hercules: The Series, we don’t see their relationship at all since they are prequel and midquel series. However, funny enough we do get some interesting developments in their love stories...

Ariel indirectly saw Eric for the very first time when he released a trapped dolphin, showing her that not all humans are bad and later again, Eric briefly saw Ariel, describing her as beautiful mermaid, but in both times, they never got a real good look at each other and thus didn’t meet until the movie.

Hercules and Meg actually did meet when they were teenagers and fell for each other, but due to magic memory erasing water, they forget their meeting or falling in love and thus their love story doesn’t truly begin until the movie. Afterwards in a very special episode that takes place after the events of the movie, we get to see them married as husband and wife and reflect on Hercules’s misadventures as a teenager.

All in all it’s interesting how all the Disney shows had a unique setting for the classic romances.

Instead of telling men to repress their emotions to appear stronger we should encourage them to sing incredibly dramatic ballads to process their emotions like in fictional movies. Maybe the world would heal faster. And also it would be very funny.

This is a little tribute to the brilliance of Tara Strong, and features only a handful of her characters that were prominent in my childhood. (Melody was my first encounter with her talents!)

Ariel from The Little Mermaid Series

I've always loved this bit of animation, even as a kid. It packs so much personality in a short time and is just a delight to watch. Serious kudos to the storyboard/artists on this.

The actual Little Mermaid story (there are a ton of adaptations I haven't seen yet so maybe it exists somewhere but we all know Disney’s didn’t even come close)

The box art for Cool Teen Pearl reminds me of the Pearl character from The Little Mermaid TV Series.

Looks like the doll and the tv show character came out the same year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re meant to be one and the same with that close a design. I’d forgotten about tv Pearl tbh 😅
