Baccano rewired my 14 year old brain fr (true story) 🍾🗽🚂💰🔫

i made a sticker sheet for one of my favourite animes ever, for anime north 2023 this month! One of the drawings I did for my first ever con was Baccano, so I wanted to pay tribute. It makes me overjoyed the fandom is alive and kicking in 2023. if you can’t get to AN and you want the sticker sheet, keep an eye out this summer for my online shop!!

A lot of the media I first experienced when I was a teen was so formative for me as an artist, Baccano was one of them - and I love inputting vintage aesthetics in my art whenever possible (unfortunately not possible half of the time). I've watched the anime many times, and I'm almost done the 1st book, unfortunately I learned theres 22 other books (DW voice: I can't read!!! 💔) Planning this sheet took a LOT of work - each individual sticker composition, trashing and reworking sketches, research and visual reference, drawing inspiration from the art nouveau and art deco periods, as well as film noir era posters.

There were countless times where I regretted my choices and thought, "Oh man, why did I do this to myself?! I think I should have drawn chibis of the characters instead!!". Planning and drawing this took so long that I couldn’t envision it being complete for my deadline. But with the power of god and anime I pulled through. I'm quite happy I went with this more graphic design approach! I definitely want to try more graphic design stuff in the future, it’s a lot of fun 🤔🤔

I ended up with a completely NEW pinterest board of 125 art deco related pins over the course of drawing this... help

My account is truly ancient, and I've drawn for so many fandoms and some of the over decade old drawings are still in circulation, and just by experiencing how fandoms interact with them I have gained knowledge I don't know what to do about,,,

#eg Lorax fandom still exists #Berserk fandom keeps old pieces in circulation for literal decades #Or like #Every now and then I'll see tags like: 'I can't believe I found it again!! I first saw it when I was a teen and it changed me as a person'#And then I look and it's the most random drawing with 1000 notes #These are very humbling btw it's interesting what sticks with people and how different it is from my own feelings #Also #It's interesting that it's the less popular pieces from niche fandoms that get circulated far longer #While the ones that got many notes from bigger fandoms lose relevance immediately #(with some exceptions)

Woah dang, waking up to 99+ notifs on tumblr almost always means that an old Homestuck piece is going around again... imagine my delighted surprise to see it was all notifs about Soli! That was a great thing to wake up to. Felt an actual flutter in my chest. Thank you so much, everyone! And apologies for how Elias' hair keeps subtly changing. You always kind of figure out exactly how a character looks and how to draw them as you go along with sequential art. It, funny enough, largely comes from figuring out their acting (so lots and lots of different angles and features that need to shift/change slightly to carry the weight of looking like they should feel, for lack of a better way to describe it ) At any rate, glad to see people are excited for chapter 3! next update will be next week, and will be a two page spread.

whenever I see talk/discourse of how heavy brutal angst of kid's shows is the absolute peak of fan work, the deepest, most honest, look into the harsh realities of this show for babies... I always, somehow, end up thinking about that Smurf torture nursery guy on that one Smurf fan forum, who was genuinely just trying to write heartbreaking hurt/comfort about abused baby smurfs, and it was pretty well received on the site. But then outsiders found out about it, and now there's a ton of youtube videos talking about this guy like he's the world's Most Deranged murder sicko who's definitely too weird in the head to live a normal human life.

are we all just the Smurf abuse guy to someone else?
