Ya ever think Pre-Scenarios Yoo Joonghyuk went to church / ya think Yoo Joonghyuk has catholic guilt?
You would never get asked questions like this on any other site. Gotta love tumblr. And of COURSE I have thoughts on this that I will ramble on in great detail.
In general, I always try to be careful to not accidentally project my western understanding onto things with a different cultural context. Especially in regards to things like Christianity, since it’s not universal and…idk it would feel inaccurate to ascribe it to characters who wouldn’t realistically encounter it themselves? Not that you can’t, but I personally try not to. That's irrelevant with ORV though, they literally made the biblical Garden of Eden be a place YJH has been shirtless in. So I’m just going to go ahead and assume that all the Christian motifs I find are intentional and fair game lol
I’ll start with your second question: KDJ’s the one with the catholic guilt, not YJH. YJH has something much more sinister going on.
He gets two main monikers in canon - ‘Pilgrim of The Lonely Apocalypse’ and ‘Puppet of The Oldest Dream.’ In ORV your moniker basically reveals what your ‘story’ is all about. These two names are supposed to show what Yoo Joonghyuk represents, and my thoughts there are…
1. Puppet of the Oldest Dream
He’s the incarnation of the all-seeing and all-knowing god that created the world.
What I’m saying is, he's a Jesus figure, alright? HEAR ME OUT. He is cursed to walk the world and suffer eternally to bring salvation to one man - at the end it's revealed that he willingly chooses to bear this burden (talking about 0th here). It’s that classic scapegoat story, bearing the sins of the world to save everyone else, but he's also choosing to do this, despite knowing it will be awful.
At the end of his regressions, when he breaks free of his chains, stops being a puppet, he finds himself lost and missing their weight. He had a terrible purpose in regression - without it, he's meaningless again.
2. As Pilgrim of the Lonely Apocalypse
He's literally called a ‘pilgrim’ - someone who goes on a journey to find god. Catholic guilt is about thinking you deserve to suffer for some perceived sins, but Yoo Joonghyuk already is in Hell. ‘Hell of Eternity’ specifically, which manifests with the Christian imagery of fire and brimstone. His ‘journey to find God’ takes him through a world of unimaginable pain and cruelty that he has to somehow find meaning in. (Both YJH and SP have different answers on what that meaning is in different points in their life. )
Needless to say, he has A LOT of imagery associated with religion.
On a more personal level, YJH is motivated by this ceaseless search for the meaning of his own existence. There's the extra layer there that he knows instinctively he was put on this earth for some grand reason, only no one ever tells him what it is. He’s cast into the world without memories and has to stumble through life blind, just like the rest of us. He desperately seeks someone who can tell him what he’s supposed to do, parent, god, prophet or anyone else. (Basically, he's an edgy atheist teenager.)
That’s why he never reaches his ‘▪️▪️’ - the cruel thing is that he can’t ever truly find his purpose, because he is driven by having an unreachable goal.
To answer your first question: Pre-scenarios Yoo Joonghyuk is busy trying to survive his shitty job and taking care of Mia. He doesn't have time for church or having a life or anything. All he can do is daydream of one day finding whoever created him and gave him life. He puts all his hopes on getting enough money to hire a private investigator and keeping this single goal in mind for years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He will meet his parents and they will tell him what he’s supposed to do right? The really fucked up thing is, he does eventually get there.
Tumblr media
The investigators give him an address, which he visits but finds only an empty house. On the way back, he has a little bit of an existential crisis and starts really thinking about it all. even thinks the classic YJH ‘who am I?’ Then, not even one second later, THE FUCKING APOCALYPSE STARTS. THERE’S HIS ANSWER I GUESS!!!!!

Having just watched Captain Laserhawk, I must ask- no, i must Beg- for our dear precious Bullfrog to be descended from Desmond! And to let those poor souls LIVE HAPPILY- and preferably with the other ancestors who desperately need a hug! Dang that show was beautifully deranged
It absolutely was, nonny. I love it.
We’re gonna play fast and loose with canon in this one though. (Spoilers to Captain Laserhawk's season 1 ending)
.
.
Bullfrog was not the only hybrid in the Brotherhood.
But he came from two old Assassin families, a rarity even in the Brotherhood.
He had only heard about it though.
He was told that they were originally created in a modified lab of one of the ancient ones.
Created by the remaining descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and, through the Kenway line, Ezio Auditore.
A man that only goes by the name ‘Elijah’.
He was not an Assassin. He preferred to stay away from the war between the Brotherhood and the Order. But he was hunted by the Templars so he had a ‘distant’ alliance with the Brotherhood.
They didn’t trust him and he didn’t trust them in turn.
Elijah wanted to be left alone in peace and anyone who threatened that were killed without mercy.
Bullfrog’s grandparents were born from his lab, ‘blessed’ with Elijah’s blood and the blood of another great Assassin of old, Callum Lynch.
According to his parents, Callum Lynch agreed to provide his blood in exchange for Elijah’s help in one of the more dangerous missions the great Master Assassin had before Eden had taken over everything.
When there was still a glimmer of hope that the Brotherhood could defeat the Templars...
And from the combination of those two bloods, their ability to access the Calculations were formed.
Elijah’s blood held the genetic codes of the men whose fate were closely linked to the Calculations. Callum Lynch’s blood held the genetic codes of a French Assassin who can ‘see’ the memories of his targets.
Modifications had to be made to stabilize them and…
Well.
Like they said, the rest was history.
When Elijah disappeared (dead, he must be dead, it has been a long time), Bullfrog’s family was taken in by the Brotherhood. Bullfrog had grown up having human childhood friends, Hastings and Darcy.
Then…
Eden found them.
And Bullfrog survived because he had been lucky.
Because the Warden saw his potential.
He was sure Eden ordered the complete eradication of the Brotherhood.
The Warden was playing a dangerous game and everything went to head at the end.
And now, here he was, being escorted back to his cell.
At least they were kind enough to hand him a juice box to drink while they walk.
Maybe they were still all confused by the orders they received to stay his execution.
They seemed a bit daze.
There was one more thing that separated his kind from the other hybrids.
Bullfrog had lived his entire life with the whispers of dead men.
Sometimes, he would even stand back and let them control his body.
The Bleeding Effect, the Brotherhood called it.
It was rare though.
The whispers prefer to advise and to talk to him.
They were the ones who suggested he talk to Eden’s puppet.
There was nothing to lose after all.
[Now.]
The moment he heard that whisper echo with different voices, all speaking at once, he threw his juice box at the guard to his right before kicking the guard to his left. He grabbed the man’s pistol from his shoulder holster and fired at the three guards behind them.
Head.
Neck.
The third one moved enough that he was hit on the shoulder and he quickly took out his own gun.
Bullfrog kicked the man he had taken the gun from and ducked, firing two more rounds.
The first one hit the man between them on the chest at the same time the guard with the bleeding shoulder fired and hit him on the back. The second one hit the hole that the first shot created and the shot goes through the man.
Both men fell on the floor, killed by that single bullet as it hit the chest of one and the head of the other.
Bullfrog jumped the remaining man that he had hit with his juice box, jamming his gun inside the man’s mouth and pulling the trigger as his screams were muffled by the gun in his mouth.
He jumped off the corpse as it slumped on the floor and rummaged their bodies, finding the key to his cuffs in the first man he killed.
The whispers continued the entire time.
[Good job.]
[We must go.]
[Run.]
[Don’t take the elevator.]
Bullfrog nodded.
His hidden blade and other weapons would be near his prison but it was too risky.
He’ll have to find someplace to make his own weapons after escaping this shithole.
That was easy.
One of his whispers knew how to make a hidden blade.

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧.
Yandere Dabi x female reader.
Summary: Hell is the other people, yet that doesn't mean to not have a devil to love in the abyss.
TW: Violent thoughts, Possessiveness, Dub-con, Drug & alcohol consumption, Obsession, Onanism.
This is a NSFW piece, Minors DNI.
enjoy ♡
As if the flames of Inferno hadn't devoured enough of him: his flesh went adust and he metamorphosed into an ugly, grotesque replica of a corpse. It was a lord's grace that he managed to survive -that's what would anyone say to him- Yet what was there to rejoice with still?! The reflection of the stained glass on the wall painted a poor excuse of a human- a failed hope of a legend and the dead blues of eyes that used to be chaste. His skin and scars were attached together in a cruel show of monstrosity, a thin line separated the decaying flesh from the unhealable wounds, and nothing in the world can wash away the hatred and rage boiling inside like the devil's pit. Ever since he swore on destroying the world, every hue of an emotion and any glimpse of a feeling had been sewn shut and imprisoned, filling  the Lilies with thorns and drops of blood to shield what was remaining.
Dabi couldn't bring himself to offer more oblations- The Idol of heroism and honor, that he used to put on a pedestal and bow down ardently for, is now nothing but a scarecrow: a deceiving figure and a cover for the truly vile intentions; the real salvation  of the world was to set it on fire and enliven it to God's innocent Eden, where no snakes or poisoned fruit will crawl inside. The 'league of villains' were the angels of death and the new Azraels of the fallen world, accompanied together to rescue the unfortunate from corruption; there were no dreams or love to live for, as his goal was the new sacred numen.
His so-called colleagues are puppets, just like he is, moved with different threads and for different roles. He couldn't bring himself to develop anything for them, whether it's fellowship, friendship or fraternity. All of them appeared to get along well: a bond was knitting itself more and more everyday as Shigaraki led them to achieve a seemingly similar paradise, gladly taking their places in a chess war and armoured as pawns, and you were no exception.
Your features conveyed no sensation, as what a devoted villain should show themself. Unlike Toga or Twice, you were silent as a lamb to the slaughter and serene as a deep sea, not disturbed or strangled, like you gave your soul on a silver platter with a peaceful heart. Others sought solace from the dregs of what had the air of a warm feeling provided by you- love and acceptance, just as they were a little loving family, where you alongside Magne, were regarded as the older sisters, and looked as the weak fraction of a home.
Poison in honey. Clouds of doubt and distrust bedimmed his mind whenever he conjured up your lineaments: the resting lines across your face and the reverent glamor in the color of your eyes- none of what you showed was to be perceived as evil. all of the fallen from grace around him had a revolutionary flame in their gaze, au contraire of your placidly hollowed stare, promising to cast a long illusion of Kafkaesque awes.
To Shigaraki's pleasure, you were his favorite- or more correctly the most tolerable member of the league. a perfect model of obedience you were: you spoke so little and worked so hard, polished the numen of new heroism with blood and gifted it so many sacrifices -sacrifices that were out of pure love, souls and pieces of the useless- With no fear or selfish intentions. Toga mooned over your figure and clinged to your hip. The little blonde was a childish loon and He couldn't endure her most of the time, while you (In addition to managing to remain a decent human being) hit it off and contained her tantrums just as you did with Twice -That psychotic freak-. He hated everyone equally: His family, His comrades and leader, and he wanted to despise you as well; the wall of an unknown sentiment hitting back what his mind wanted him to comprehend.
You're giving him a sort of hate that he didn't accept nor understand. Why would he feel irritated instead of apathetic at your surface attitude towards him?! Surely he is in no need of baring someone else's hopes -he'd rather carry his own despair alone-  yet he won't swallow down the thought of you thinking of him as a failure, a maggot that devours rotten carcasses or merely a lost cause, he is indeed a lost cause but never an empty noise in the background of your head, or someone that you can ignore so easily. As he watches you patch up Jin, smile sweetly at Atsuhiro's tantalizings, play cards with Shuichi or chat with Himiko about everything and nothing. The virulent wave of an emotion keeps washing at him; playing a series of cruel thoughts and imaginations that were rather sadistic: bashing your head against a wall till the threads of crimson sewed your calm face, burning your flawless skin until it discolored to a vile, pussed red; all to hear your screams and enjoy the melody of your vocal cords as you cried in agony for him to stop. The scenarios of torturing you blessed his nights with vivid dreams: Unlike what his consciousness wanted to see, his psyche animated you and him in cherry blossom reveries, the lost innocence drowning everything in a blissful haze. He remembered the feeling of your touch and the note of your true voice: soft as silk and meek as milk, the sweet fruit of heaven, not poisoned by satan. He recalls more than a time how his nightdreams were a small warm flash of affection at first, then ignited into a fevered kiss before escalating to a carnal feast. The euphoria of uniting with you was unforgettable: kissing and nipping at each inch of you, from your lips and face down to your neck, a lovely odor fragrancing your shoulders, the mellow flesh of your breasts, gently squishing in his palms and the raw pomes of your nipples and their flavor- how he imagined the graze of his teeth and nails on the pure fabric of your skin, the path of his tongue down to your dripping cunt- your nectarous cunt, generously pouring your essence on his tongue as he lapped your flower, savoring every little drop of fluid in every little spot of each petal while your croons and moans composed a midnight chant. Flames blazed in his loins while your core was drenched; him immediately dousing the heat when he entered you roughly. The scenery was utterly perfect: your cries of pleasure and whines at his dandlings and teasing, the purple blooms across your neck and cleavage, and the full mewl of vigor escaping your throat as you finished, his cock spasming so deep inside; cervix opened up and swallowing his seed. The sweet haze filled everything to a bright sweven, bright as the fullest moon in the darkest night, consumed by the clouds and veiled into the dim. He wakes up- hard and frustrated as he palms himself, cussing at the many shapes of your form within his memory. He needed to feel you, now and next to him.
Dabi would never unfold his fantasies to you. the idea of revealing such a hidden side of him to anyone (let alone you, the person in concern for his nocturnal musings) was embarrassing; the pride and dignity -even as a morally shattered rogue- he built over the years refused to lower over someone and disclose such a vulnerable part of a parlous evildoer. It's his lucky day- the annoying brat of a leader finally made a good decision of teaming you up together. Shigaraki thinks that you're capable of cooling Dabi's heat while he would warm up your apathy, just as fire and ice would balance each other. And of course, he didn't give a single fuck about the mission's success or the plan as much as he did about getting to start something with you, something that'll hopefully develop into what he had in mind. Soon enough, the dreams of your body on him will come to be a reality.
Good. you aren't scared away or seem to be disgusted at him. you were pretty docile: he didn't have to call you a name or throw a threat at you to pay attention to him. Dabi colors his attempts to coax you with a hue of bitter judgment and cynicism, hoping to elicit a real reaction from the depths of your mind, not that mild bright look of your eyes, sending him a scattered letters and an unknown message: a feeling of opacity, odd serenity that increased his desire to maim you beyond all of the evils a human can imagine.
His fantasies became even rougher and more detailed. The brightness of blood and sunlight on your face were equally exciting, and his desire to own you for his jollity increased with each time his hand tried to replace the smoothness of your walls, desperately delineating the scene from a third eye: him burying himself in the heat of your core, clutching your arms in a fist, spitting curses and degradations at your cutely fucked face. The idea of you being a cheap whore and a costly mistress at the same time sparked a fire in his mind; corrupting whatever purity you still had and breaking your sanity- wiping that stupid calm face off and putting a bloodied and scared one in a show for him. The visions were so pleasant that his hands wanted nothing but to beat you broken and burn you dead; drag you to his pit of misery.
Dabi now shows you a fraction of what he can offer of 'Kindness'. Every Time you happen to converse with him, he aims to provoke you by obscene flirtation or direct teasing, which you respond to with a quick comeback or an eyeroll. The more he pushes your buttons, the more your true nature comes to light for him: you're a cruel, doe-eyed disaster, everything ugly and pretty at the same time; he absolutely loves that.
Anger doesn't rise when you throw your words at him: your insults weren't even insults, whether you laced them with poison or honed their edges sharp, they didn't wound as much as they tickled: everything that came out of that pretty little mouth of yours was sweet, too sweet that made him eager to cut your tongue off and watch blood cascade. He wanted to get a devil out of you, as to take it to a hell of his own, where you would both revel in cutting each other to ribbons.
The inflicted pain loses its ache with time, and melts into a crippling throe, and grows to a deep blue melancholy. it feels to him -and you as well- that you took comfort in hurting him and him hurting you, like breaking a bone to forget a sharp twist of the heart. indulging in banes was a temporary relief as well: cigarettes and Alcohol, pills and remedies weren't enough to release a lingering burden of shame and acrimony. It happened in a moonless night- a bottle of wine dangling lazily from your fingers, your head on his shoulder and your tongue unlacing its knot, through a blur of tears, all of what had been coffined under your skin teared through and emerged into existence: you were just like him- a torn hope for a legend, a replaceable weapon and a losing card. Just when you believed the serpent's lie of power and grace, your superiors took you out of what used to be your home, your heaven and haven; everything was ripped out from your hands overnight, and tears were no longer an antidote. and he listens- he listens to every word you say, dread filling his cogitation as the familiar scenes are played.
"Was I really a failure all along?" He watched you swallow your words with a full gulp, the red in the bottle swinging within it in your shaking grip. Your eyes were distant as always, but in an exciting way- you seemed hopeless, utterly woebegone, the gleam of your eyes absent to where an unknown corner of your head laid.
"The more I think of it, the more my hatred for them grows… but I can't deny that I used to love them… and I still love them!"
Sobs lost between gulps; the drink wasn't able to pacify your sorrows. He just simply stares at the mess of you, intrigued by both of your tears and subtle determination of revenge. His imagination creates a scene where your form stood, gazing up to a charred horizon, your head turning around, a numb smile crossing its curved line on your face, while your eyes carried a certain violent gentleness. As he watches you wipe the traces of sorrow on your face, Dabi comes to the realization of who you verily were: an embodiment of the darkest depravity in the garments of the purest piety, that you were the serpent and not the sinner. If this life was hell; then you ought to be the devil itself; a reincarnation of Jezebel's deceit, Circe's eyes and Delilah's lulling.
Your fingers twitched and moved, skimming his scarred hand, spiderlike at first, wanting a silent agreement from him to continue, then bold, obscene as you took his silence as an acceptance.
Now he notices how well manicured are your nails and how neat are your digits, coy when they took both of his palms, to downright prurient when you slipped his hands under your shirt to meet your bosom.
"I've seen the way you look at me" you purred, stars of a far nirvana lustering in your eyes, not like you were just weeping.
You squeezed his hands, encouraging him to fondle on the soft flesh on your chest, which he did, immediate and eager as he was whenever he recalled that dream.
"You seemed like you wanted to hurt me terribly… and just to let you know, being hurt by you isn't a very awful thought… it's…" you giggled like a vamp "Sexy…"
He felt like an overflowed dam. just as you let the final words, he planted a forceful kiss to your lips, relishing the taste of ale on your tongue. you moaned into his mouth, arms on his shoulders welcoming him for sin.
The bottle rolled to an unknown corner of the room, its content missing than a few drops. All it took to loosen your composure was a hundredth night of drinking and a tipsy talk. To him, none of the Alcohol was as much of an intoxication as the feeling of you, far more rapturous and surreal than the vistas of violence and vigor he visualized in the dead of the night. Time lost its sense in a complete haze, nothing but the grunts and murmurs caroling the cold air of the small room.
When the first threads of daybreak slipped through the cracks, it all befell you in a sharp remembrance. you recognized the scars on the body beside you, softly snoring and twisting its muscles as it woke up.
"Round two, Ay, love?"
You were obviously regretful of what'd taken place nights ago, as you wore your annoyance on your face. He had his way with you during a moment of weakness, claimed himself as a 'boyfriend' and crawled under your skin. In all honesty, you'd found him attractive when you first set your sight on him, the dead blues he gloomed the world with spoke a threat of violence and vengeance, sparking your own fantasies to deprave and go astray with insanity. You thought about breaking him slowly with seduction and faux timidity; succeeding when he allowed his demons to entice him into touching you, but failing when he sought love from you of all people.
He's not ashamed of letting his emotional deprivation surface. He's a nuisance- constantly clinging to your hip, demanding all sorts of affection regardless of the time. There's a mission? He accompanies you, disobeying the leader's instructions with all satisfaction. You're going somewhere? He tags along, not caring about your protests and complaints of his existence. a hue of joy on his face blinks when you're alone together: He speaks more, attempts to flirt in his words and asks for physical assurance more than he gives (not like you wanted anything from him except sex). His tolerance decreases when it comes to your connections with the rest of the league members; he's now ruder to them and sometimes violent- warning them audibly to stop interacting with you, and you couldn't oppose yourself, feeling gleeful deep down at your capacity to get this side out of him. You were fully aware he had issues, sorts of injuries that didn't stop at his face and limbs, but that wasn't a concern of yours.
In the silence of everything at the end of day, his head on your chest, Dabi spills out every single letter of what he thinks of you.
"You're a bitch, and I love that about you… another disaster in my life, but a pretty one…" He rotates his head to look at you, a smug line curving up his lips "Wanna show me how much of a slutty wide-eyed brat you are?"
You give a sweet smile in return, starting a long night of pain that didn't hurt more than it pleased. The silence of the dark would stretch until the light is poured in heavens, when every aching memory, tear and sob is forgotten and deemed to return in next kisses and bites. The journey of your lives continues to a shared horizon: you both swore on destroying the world together, ruin the scarecrow of falsity and sacralize what was truly sacred: you and him only; your new heaven through the colors of your eyes.
"Mousey…"
"Hmm?"
"Stay with me forever…"
"I want to be your world, you're already mine"
"Let's burn together in hell"
"Dance with me on their corpses"
"I love you, do you love me?"
"I do love you… Touya"

september was not kind but we're back with a real making section babEY and lengthy all other sections
listening
SHIFTED by Jolynn J Chin, a progressive jazz (?) piano piece that changes time signatures on every bar. i am led to understand this is a massive technical achievement but more importantly to me it sounds cool as hell. this is a little funny bc pianist friends occasionally complain that the technically challenging pieces that are fun to play aren't that fun to actually listen to. spotify
youtube
the artist uploaded an explainer video that went well over my head but i have no music theory background. i know that not every video with a lady patiently talking through a problem on a whiteboard is going to be a physics video but spiritually this is a physics video to me

how'd i find this: spotify discover weekly

reading
lee winter's The Fixer. perfectly fine technical quality of writing but absolutely bizarre plot. there will be spoilers for this book bc i cannot talk about this book without them.
A naive activist is hired by a corporate villain but doesn’t realize it. Cue one awkward farce, a twisty puzzle, and the slowest of slow burns in this opposites-attract, ice queen romance. Nine years ago, aloof, icy Michelle Hastings chose career over love. She’s now living with that choice as she rules a secret corporation catering to the rich and powerful. Enter Eden Lawless. The guileless activist finds it a bit weird being employed by a mystery organization to bring down a corrupt mayor. But, hey, she’s up for a challenge. Much harder is getting her beautiful new boss out of her head. The pull between them is electric.
this was not the fanfic level of mean woman i prefer. this woman is a bit of a tsundere boss with some past regrets. like yeah her Company does awful shit but she herself is a very restrained sort of James Bond villain level of icy polite.
unfortunately the actual plot itself is so fucking bizarre.
one of my two concerns: the author is not Jewish but has written Michelle as such, and employed sensitivity readers. i do not know that it is in the very best of taste to have a Jewish woman as the head of a shadowy, textually evil, para-governmental organization pulling strings behind the scenes for the rich and powerful.
the other thing that really threw me is that the series of events we are concerned with, a mayoral election in small-town uhhhh maryland??? i have returned the book and cannot fact check-- seems to be a very thinly veiled rehashing of the 2016 presidential primaries. but as a mayoral campaign.
there is an obnoxious redheaded used car salesman who is running for national publicity for his used car business and writes nasty jingles about his main opponent, a very unpleasant woman who nevertheless gets things done but WAS a slumlord and DID ruin our activist Eden's life. everyone in the county is in her pocket. things are running quietly and well in town, and her platform is solar. the solar farms would take up literally all the actual farmland in the country and (spoiler) she is defeated bc the townspeople think this would be an eyesore and not actually bring that many jobs to the town. again, i stress this is a small town mayoral campaign. they are a college town but it is an EXTREMELY small lib arts college. she has the correct idea about renewables but downfall is that she personally is reprehensible and is going about renewables WRONG!!!
our main character Eden sinks this renewable energy plan bc, again, in college, legally-not-Hillary-Clinton got her dad fired from the local hospital and ran them out of town bc of Eden's protests against her slumlord activities.
then there is the objectively best candidate, a retired pediatrician in the very early stages of dementia who is sort of a puppet candidate for his wife, the actual political mind who hired the evil CEO Michelle's company through a shell company in order to sink her husband's opponent. VERY weird setup.
this was indirectly recced by a big name romance writer who would would not appreciate being tagged lol. i will not be reading the second half of this duology. too much stuff that made me go WHUH???

watching
Tumblr media
The Big O is a 1999 and then 2003 detective noir mecha anime. i have never wondered what batman: the animated series would look like if it went in a different retrofuturist direction and put bruce wayne in mecha, but now i have that answer.
Tumblr media
this show looks good as fuckin hell. there are SO many dutch angles and dials and gadgets and switches. there's a cut in the first episode that doesn't translate well to screenshots, to the interior of a luxury apartment building and the water in the pool is sloshing around as mechs fight outside.
ive only seen the first three episodes but im having a marvelous fucking time. very importantly for me, there is a robot who is a child but notorious womanizer Bruce Wayne Roger Smith isn't fuckin weird about it.
how i found it: this post reblogged by @ouroborosenso ! the line "You're a louse, Roger Smith." got one short sharp bark of laughter out of me, and a bone dry sense of humor is an excellent selling point. it's available on the internet archive (dubbed but no subtitles)
-
playing
im having a grand old time with g/enshin's new area. my shit did kind of get rocked with the revelation that the prisoners-- okay let's back up. the player character gets sent to prison on false charges so they can investigate something for the chief justice. backing up farther, the watery land of Fontaine runs on magic energy produced during its court trials. this incentivizes them to make the court trials full-on fucking dramatic productions with very little care for like. victims. once convicted (fontaine feels like it has a near 100% conviction rate, very much like japan) prisoners go to an underwater prison that is a more steampunk version of bioshock. these prisoners make the automated clockwork humanoid police force, as well as the automated clockwork police dogs. there is a panopticon.
Tumblr media
the economy in the prison (cannot believe this game that wants me to spend money on anime waifus so i can watch their skirts billow teasingly in the wind while i fight big monsters also wants me to think about prison economies) anyway the economy in the prison is scrip-based. you get one free meal a day but everything else runs on scrip. apparently many people choose to stay in prison after their terms are up bc they have achieved some sort of power and stability there. says a lot about the surface world, don't it? wish we SAW literally any of that in the surface world!
Tumblr media
i guess being very overt about drawing from a fifteen year old game is like. kosher? so many other games have drawn from bioshock, but genshin draws so heavily and frequently from Breath of the Wild that it was a little jarring to go from the last area with the cute little korok seed knockoffs and a lot of thinking about academic misconduct to somewhere with a flavor of politics i think a lot more about. as you travel throughout the land of genshin impact, you are quite involved in big diplomatic incidents and overthrowing various baddies, installing the correct people, things of this nature. i think this new land of Fontaine is the most overtly political in that literally all of your time here is spent thinking about exactly how this country's administration operates. it's not a real "hey look we've recreated the Torture Nexus" situation yet but i am curious about what sort of themes the next expansion will be chewing on. im also not quite done with the second of two giant quests that take place in the prison so stay tuned.
bonkers fucking game. wish it wasn't gambling based and didn't have to adhere so closely to chinese restrictions. wish literally ANY outlet was regularly covering this insane lore hiding under the gacha and grind systems
-
making
the goddamn couch covers are finally done. they are 9x12 and 12x16 100% cotton drop cloths from Chicago Art Supply, and im quite happy with their quality (evenness of weave, normal selvededge, normal seams). i used rit all purpose dye in fuchsia (hot bucket method with colorstay, more on that later) and the itajime triangle method of shibori dyeing. this involved folding the fabric accordion-wise, folding it like a flag, then sandwiching it between two triangles of wood or plastic with many many many rubber bands or twine.
it was a right fucking bitch to prewash, dry, and fold these fuckers. mack was deeply unhelpful. if i need to wash them in future i will be visiting a laundromat.

i could not procure enough dye locally for the recommended 1 packet per 1 lb of dry fabric (4 and 8 pounds respectively) so i did a .75 strength dye bath, since i wasn’t trying to dye the entire thing perfectly and evenly. i think you could probably do a half or quarter strength with more time and be fine. the photo on the left is the smaller dropcloth after a half hour in the bucket (unfolded in the washer to reduce. well to just reduce many problems) , and i did not like that high of a contrast bc i did want some color on all the fabric. so i unfolded and dunked the whole thing back in for literally thirty seconds and it promptly sucked up the rest of the available dye molecules, making it lower contrast than i wanted. so it goes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i didn’t like how even and neat the triangle motif was on this go round (when deciding on colors and patterns for this project i was thinking about coral and pink cow print but did not want a literal pink cow print couch), so for the next one i did a much worse job folding and was way more aggressive with the rubber bands. i also folded it in half lengthwise to make the accordion folds easier for myself, something i did not do for the smaller one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here she is through my balcony screen door after an hour in the dye bucket and a wash with half the recommended amount of fixative to get it to bleed a Little for better coverage of the fabric but keep it lower contrast. i am not completely thrilled with how this came out bc i feel it reads a little sorority girl tshirt. im not sure if making the motif/triangles smaller would have helped any, and even though i was not folding it in half every time you can only fold something so many times before it becomes extremely cumbersome.
Tumblr media
couch before the cushion, the cover loosely on the couch. i am going to safety pin and tuck the shit out of this but do not currently have the bandwidth to actually sew it. we’ll see how this goes! kind of a pain in the ass and physically taxing but not a lot of actual hands on time, and now the dyeing bug is out of my system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
preview of next project: i am going to repaint this somewhat shabby globe bar with northern hemisphere constellations :)

2023 Media Thread (Re-do to add a Read More Link)
Tumblr media
Spark The Electric Jester 3:
Man I was holding off on spoilers for MONTHS until the holidays when I could get this game, and I only beat it in the beginning of the year and well…HOLY SHIT I didn’t know I needed existentialism in my funny little platformer- Gameplay is INSANELY solid, like honestly some of my favorite platforming controls I have ever used! Music is top notch as well!
Tumblr media
Nier Automata: The End of YoRHa Edition:
Holy fuck how did I manage to avoid spoilers for this game for YEARS??? That ending was beautiful~ (Yes I did do all the main endings)
Tumblr media
Chrono Trigger: I should preface this by saying I did modify this game a tiiiiny bit to have PS4 button prompts and fixing the Classic filter. Other than that, I can see why it’s a lot of people’s favorite RPG! Short enough in case you wanna replay it, and the foundation of the NG+ system definitely helps incentivize replays! Can’t wait to play Chrono Cross!
Tumblr media
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII:
I binged both FFXIII and FFXIII-2 during October and November of last year, but took a short break to avoid burnout. And well, yeah this game was neat! I will admit though that since there’s no way to REWIND time like in Majora’s Mask that I got INSANELY stressed out but that didn’t take away from the sweet release of seeing these characters I love finally get their well-deserved happy ending :)
Tumblr media
Mega Man Zero:
I put this one off and on throughout like 2 years because I just wasn’t good at it, but it taught me a VERY good lesson in perseverance! Really excited to play Zero 2!
Tumblr media
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion: ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK ;w; Story was pretty…alright for the most part, but I couldn’t feel attached to any of the original characters :/ Honestly my eyes were on Zack just…being real with what’s going on. I may not feel bad for when people he cares about dies, but I can EASILY emphasize with him because I know that HE knows them. Knows them more than we ever will know. Also the gameplay and music are fucking stellar.
Tumblr media
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes:
I should preface all of this by saying I don’t remember what order I beat all of these in lmao. Anyways my route was Golden Wildfire and the story for it is such an improvement over its equivalent in Three Houses!!! I love Shez so much as a protagonist even if his outfit is a tiny bit dumb.
Tumblr media
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker
Man I really wanted to like this. And like, music and area wise I loved it! But the story feels…It just doesn’t feel like the finality for all we’ve done so far. I could not care at all for Meteion because they spend approximately like 20 or 30 minutes making us meet them and then throwing us IMMEDIATELY into the angst like, no. This isn’t even a case of “Well I don’t care but I can understand why others do” NO THE GAME MAKES YOUR WOL FEEL BAD AS WELL, MEANING YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CARE! NO! I DON’T! I was able to at least pretend a little bit to roleplay as needed but man. At least Footfalls and the post-endwalker dungeon themes kick ass though. (Warrior of Light’s name for me is M’bahlon Tia)
Tumblr media
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe
SO CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE I love kirby games sm and this is no exception. REALLY loved how hard the Magolor Epilogue got at certain points though that was great.
Tumblr media
Fire Emblem Awakening
I CAN SEE WHY THIS SAVED THE FRANCHISE WHEN IT CAME OUT!! It’s a REALLY good game! I went with the default male Robin settings since that’s what’s in Smash Bros. And man just, everything about this game is AMAZING!!! Sadly cannot see myself replaying it anytime. I could just load my endgame save and grind out support conversations with other characters or do that…new game plus thing I think it was?
Tumblr media
Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space: Bound Wills and the Hollow Puppeteer
I did this event initially back when it came out (and in fact is the main reason why I played the game in the first place) But I got horrible units and died super often, and revived every chance I got. But losing my save data and getting a better unit HEAVILY boosted my chances of getting through the event and man, it was a lot of fun! I love seeing tiny mona :3 JUST LOOK AT HOW SMOL HE IS AAAAAAAAA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mighty Gunvolt Burst:
I had a lot of fun with this one! I used one of the DLC characters (I think they’re the Zero character from Mighty Number 9 but) it’s a great romp!
EDIT: ALSO SHOULD MENTION IT FUCKING OWO’D ME
Tumblr media
Final Fantasy XV
“Walk tall…my friends.” I got this game YEARS ago but haven’t truly delved into it recently. And well… That ending got to me. It really did. The gameplay took me so long to get used to (especially since I had been more used to the more refined gameplay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake 3 years prior) Music is amazing, love the characters! I just wish the other episodes were finished and weren’t just put in a novel :/
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
HOLY FUCK THIS GAME WAS SO COOL. I always heard like, right, about how good this game was but I figured it was just nostalgia talking for people. NOPE. As someone who’s first paper mario game was super (never beat it, I was a really stupid child) and then played Sticker Star (Again, very stupid child but also that game is bullshit because everything is so obtuse and it sucks) But this? This was a big breath of fresh air. I am so excited to go back and play 64 and Super!!!
Tumblr media
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Honestly? Way better than I was expecting. You can FEEL nintendo had a strangle-hold on the movie’s production though from how Chris Pratt in the final movie actually fucking voice acts somewhat (it’s a start), there’s no bad Illumination tropes, Peach is a dragoon, Toad and Bowser easily steal the show, and just, ALL THE REFERENCES WOW. EVEN THE NEWER THINGS. I didn’t see any Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi references though which makes me sad. I hope that if there’s a sequel it’s actually better and doesn’t fall into any traps movie sequels usually do, maybe even say if the other kingdoms from Mario Odyssey are in this universe (and maybe Isle Defino) The movie definitely could have used an extra 20 minutes spread throughout to add more to the main group dynamic.
Tumblr media
Mega Man Zero 2
OH MY GOD THIS WAS SO MUCH BETTER BALANCE-WISE HOLY SHIT Cyber-elves requirements to be leveled up were MASSIVELY lowered and the enemy AI isn’t as overly aggressive! Loved the music too, especially Departure and the ending theme which was adapted for the song Clover! Can’t wait to do Zero 3!
Tumblr media
WARE WA MESSIAH NARI! HAHAHA!
Mega Man Zero 3 was really good, but either I am getting way too good at these games or they are getting easier haha. Loved the music and gameplay though, and how Cyber Elves were handled here is absolutely the best they have ever been! If there’s any game in this series I am gonna replay, it’s Zero 3 without a doubt! On to Mega Man Zero 4, the last of the GBA era.
Tumblr media
Mega Man Zero 4
I finally did it. I beat the entire Mega Man Zero series. While I do not agree with how the parts and cyber elf system were handled, It was not a bad experience by any means! It felt nice following Zero’s character arc throughout these games. I’m maybe gonna take a break before I tackle Mega Man ZX, but hey, I feel like that game’s gonna be fun! It’s the only one I actually OWN on its original hardware after all! :D
Tumblr media
Sonic and the Black Knight
This was a fun distraction for a few hours! I had a lot of fun with this! Granted the second King Arthur fight took me an hour but besides that it was a quick and good romp! Probably has one of the best final boss themes in a sonic game I’ve ever heard! :D
Tumblr media
The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Pretty fun game all things considered, but I didn’t like how punishing some of the design philosophies were in the end parts of the game. Music’s great though! Maybe I’ll revisit it one day, but not anytime soon. Still, can’t say I disliked my experience.
Tumblr media
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Where…do I even begin with this?…It was…genuinely amazing. I was waiting for a sequel to Breath of the Wild for years, and during my high school years I was wondering how they would even follow it up! Doing a sequel to an open-world game is harder than a lot of other genres.      But yet….they did it. They somehow did it. Those 6 years of development time more than paid off. It felt…amazing to run around a changed Hyrule from the last game. The mechanics were amazing, and the character development was really cool! The new rune abilities are dope!!!    BUT THE MUSIC MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM THE MUSIC OH THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD THE ENDING MUSIC MADE ME ACTUALLY CRY AHHHHHHHH PLAY THIS GAME PLAY IT NOW
Tumblr media
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
And here we are! Finally got around to this! It was a really dope game! Loved the combat and music! I even did most of the bonus content and the Ultimate Cup Z, but I kept dying at the final phase of the final boss of that so I just gave up lol, it’s purely bonus content anyways lol. But honestly I loved this game! Can’t wait for the next mainline kirby game!
Tumblr media
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
FINALLY GOT AROUND TO PLAYING THIS ONE! I owned this on real hardware since its release date but never got far. I finally got around to it with the motivation of beating Tears of the Kingdom, and I gotta say, it’s pretty good! Not exactly like, absolutely top tier game that everyone MUST play but, it’s decent! Bosses are a big sour point though. Music was pretty decent, though the final dungeon theme is a bore. Only other current Zelda games I gotta beat are the 2D/Top-Down ones, so maybe I’ll do one of those next! Possibly either Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks.
Tumblr media
Pokémon Scarlet
HOLY SHIT THAT ENDING SEQUENCE WAS ACTUALLY COOL AS HELL!!! Like yeah, the game has its decent chunk of technical issues but, holy shit….those last two hours of the main story are phenomenal. TOBY FOX CONTINUES TO BE THE GOAT THE MUSIC HE COMPOSED IS AMAZING! I love how easier it is to capture pokemon compared to Sword and Shield as well. I do like Dynamax raids more as a multiplayer component, but I much prefer the Tera mechanic in terms of PVP. I stlll need to do the post game before the dlc comes out later this year, but all I really got is just the refights against the gym leaders and all that jazz. There’s also the Needle thingies I gotta pull out and the wall things I gotta investigate in order to get the other legendaries, but all I really care about is finishing the core of the main story, I got other games to get to lol. Probably thinking of either Paper Mario or Chrono Cross next haha.
Tumblr media
Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders
Okay so context: my friend @arcadiusdragoneyes is showing me and @darkspine576 Kamen Rider Build since it’s one of his favorites and he wanted to indoctrinate introduce us into Kamen Rider AND IT’S FUCKING WORKING. I only know one part of this crossover, but I think it did a good job of giving across the feel of the other Kamen Rider series very well! Kamen Rider Build is so extra I love it. Can’t wait to finish Kamen Rider Build!

My Assassin's Creed OC. Cuāuhtliyōllo [coo-AH-w-tɬ-LEE-yo-LO] - which means "Heart like an Eagle" a man from a smaller city-state under hegemony from the Aztec Empire. After his lover, who was captured in battle by the opposing Aztecs, he leaves his village and encounters a far travelled Italian explorer by the name of Giovanni Borgia. They eventually team up, and learn from each other.
Tumblr media
Cuāuhtliyōllo seeks revenge against the Aztecs, while Giovanni desires a powerful artifact under Tenochtitlan's possession, the Crystal Skull. They also face another force, the Spanish Empire, and conquistadors led by Hernán Cortes, a Templar with his own artifact. Giovanni learns more of the cultures of Mesoamerica, while Cuāuhtliyōllo learns of the secretive order that Giovanni belongs to. The Brotherhood of Assassins.
Tumblr media
The Cult of the Fire Serpent are the all controlling cabal in the heart of the Aztec regime. Tlatoani (King) Moteuczoma II Xocoyotzin is a superstitious king puppeted by his nobility. His priests, the Pipiltin (nobility) even his queen are apart. Their most prized possession, the piece of Eden known as the Crystal Skull, is the source of their power.
Tumblr media
They soon come into conflict with a foreign force, the Spanish Empire, led by Hernán Cortes, who seeks their riches and to claim the skull for himself. He wields his own piece of Eden, known as the Dagger of Eden.
Tumblr media

Character Playlist: Gwen (Shújūn) Liu
Number four in our character playlist series, this time for episode 4, which is focused on our beloved Gwen / Shújūn. Like the other playlists for Dai, Morgan and Perry, I'll be going through track by track and talking a bit more about Gwen's character and why I included these specific songs. Enjoy!
1.Mirror Mirror by Juniper Vale
Followed me into a dream And twirled me out of time Down a trail of twisted tales That mythemized my mind All my memories they ring a bell But taper with each toll Mirror, mirror who am I now? I don't know
Like everyone, Gwen is struggling with identity in this apocalypse. Especially as a woman who grew up in Hong Kong and is now stranded in the UK, with no way to know what's happened to her friends and family, being judged and shaped by a British story, she's being pulled in a lot of different directions at once. For her, it feels like a very strange waking dream. She's probably the most Alice in Wonderland character in the series.
2. Paper Mache by Iris Lune
I almost lost everything I got to this Scratch at my soul, I clench my fist Counting the lights on my way out There is no time to lose, must replay the scene
Fundamentally Gwen is a survivor. She was alone in a monster-infested wilderness for far too long, and as to what happened to the other survivors she was with? It wasn't pretty. Gwen is the definition of that quote about hope being covered in blood and mud and getting up again anyway.
3. Eastward of Eden by Amelia Day
Our children, they spread to outnumber the stars Oh, Eastward of Eden, where day turns to dark Dark Leave it all, leave it all, leave it all behind
The world ended. And again, Gwen in particular feels lost in an alien and foreign landscape, completely disconnected from the world she knew. She has family in the UK - aunts and cousins, but she only moved to Leicester for university. Now she's 6,000 miles from Hong Kong and trapped, forced to forge a new path for herself with no one there to help her. And on top of all of that, she's inherited this strange, massive power that influences her interactions with everything and everyone she meets.
4. All Things Devour by aeseaes
worms and spiders spin inside her like the story make me holy this thing all things devours
Gwen, like the others in the gang with Names, has a very conflicted relationship with Guinevere. She sees the name as a tool, a weapon in her arsenal that's helped her survive. But she's also painfully aware that she's dancing with fire, and she's seen the ways that her Name puts her and the people she loves in danger, too. She worries that one day she'll put the costume on and not be able to take it off.
5. Sad Forever by Lauv
'Cause lately, I've been in the backseat to my own life Trying to take control, but I don't know how to I don't wanna be sad forever I don't wanna be sad no more I don't wanna wake up and wonder What the hell am I doing this for?
Gwen is a woman whose actions speak louder than words. She has to be careful around Perry, Morgan and Dai because she's a stranger and she needs the shelter they offer. But privately, she's determined not to give into fear or despair, despite all the grief and horror she's suffered. She's so frustrated by the way she's being pulled around this apocalypse like a puppet, and she's determined to take the reins.
6. Only Lonely by The Ballroom Thieves
She knows I have a tendency I make mountains out of stones And with that timber, burn a hundred fires
The first time they meet, Morgan brings Gwen back to reality. Morgan's stubbornness, her directness and her anger help snap Gwen out of the daydream of the story and back into reality. Gwen finds Morgan fascinating, and funny, and grounding like nothing and no one else she's ever met. Whenever Gwen is scared of getting lost in the clouds and being unable to come back, Morgan anchors her.
7. On Board by Alana Henderson
I'll be the figurehead On your ship's bow I'll be the last glimpse of a topsail As we go down I'll be waiting on the seabed Repeating the words Don't forget (you said), ships were not built to be safe
Gwen is maybe more conscious than Morgan of how explosive and dangerous to both of them their closeness can be - the way that others might see it as a threat, the way their own stories might react in ways they can't predict. And despite this, despite knowing that Morgan is an objectively dangerous woman to her, Gwen can't help but be drawn to her.
8. Throw Me in the Water by WILD
Pushin' away Only gets me closer Fallin' fast Can we move it slower?
Morgan is not good at creating relationships. Gwen is amazing at making new friends, and Gwen can see all the ways that Morgan prickles and pushes her away. Gwen chooses to ignore the spiky armour Morgan wears. If anything, she finds it an interesting challenge. Morgan is the wild untamed stallion and Gwen is the horse girl in this movie. Gwen desperately wants to untangle the knot that Morgan is and see what lies underneath, again, despite all the danger that presents.
9. We Will All Be Changed by Seryn
We look for home, but we'll never know Distance will grow, but I'll always know
What happened to Hong Kong and her dad, Kai, is a huge unanswered question that lingers over Gwen's head every day, this unresolved grief that she has to get up every day and live with. But she keeps going, in the hope that one day she'll answer it.

Songs for Stuilly ‼️
Some of you may agree, some may disagree and that’s okay! This is simply for fun 💕 [albums and artists will be named for easier navigation] [format similar to Asher’s post!]
-
Take Me Back To Eden [Sleep Token]
• The Summoning
I feel like this is a given if you’ve ever heard This song-
“I’ve got a river running right into you, I’ve got a blood trail, red in the blue.”
This is Billy talking about/to Stu.
“You’ve got my body, flesh, and bone.”
Stu and his devotion to billy
“‘Cause these days I would be lying if I told you that; I didn’t wish I could be your man”
This could either be Stu to Billy, or Billy to Stu.
• Granite.
“If you had a problem, then you should’ve told me. Before you started getting all aggressive and controlling.”
STU IN THE KITCHEN SCENE.
“I was more than just a body in your passenger seat, and you were more than just somebody I was destined to meet.”
Billy as he thinks of Stu
•Ascensionism
This is so heavily only stu to Billy so these are quotes only about Stu
“Who made you like this? Who encrypted your dark gospel and body language?”
“Glitches in the code or gaps in a strange dream”
“Tell me you guessed my future and it mapped onto your fantasy, turn me into your mannequin and I’ll turn you into my puppet queen.”
“Won’t you come and dance in the dark with me? Show me what you are, I am desperate to know.”
“Blood stains on the collar, please just don’t ask. Be the first to feast, let’s choke on the past.”
“And I know what you want from me; you want the same as me.”
• Take Me Back To Eden
“My my those eyes like fire, I’m a winged insect and you’re a funeral pyre.”
Stu about Billy
“Come now bite through these wires; I’m a waking hell and the gods grow tired.”
Billy wanting Stu to see him.
Around the Fur [Deftones]
• Be Quiet and Drive (Far away)
"It feels good to know you're mine. Now drive me far away, away, away" "Far away and I don't care where. Just far away and I don't care where"
If they would've survived, this would've been billy too Stu.
Adrenaline [deftones]
• Minus Blindfold
"Grab my blue backpack, my walkman, grip my bicycle, Because I know my friends are waiting at the door; I'm feeling loose like you, just fucking around and shit"
Stu about Billy.
"No choice, Let me go, I get bored"
Billy because personally I think he's not too good with relationships, even when it comes to stu, because he knows how he is.
[there's probably more but im sleepy right now.]
[reblogs appreciated but not forced!]

So, I love animation history, and I've been watching a lot of forgotten animated films for the last couple of weeks...
Fire and Ice (1983): the rotoscope thing is very interesting. I love Darkwolf's design and how hot Teegra is in those early scenes, but not much else. It looks too much like He-Man and the plot drags. 2/10
A Troll in Central Park (1994): charming at the heart of things. Especially with Dom DeLuise as Stanley -- what a comforting voice from my childhood. "Anything that's real starts with a dream." I do very much wish I could live in an underground garden paradise like a little socially awkward troll. 4/10
The Princess and the Goblin (1991): a little bizarre and not very compelling, but I love the bits with grandmother Irene. The way that the attic is animated to transform into an Edenic homestead is so beautiful. 4/10
Quest for Camelot (1998): have you ever wondered what Sinbad would have looked like if they had like half the budget and story? Eric Idle is going to hell. I want to fuck the griffin. 3/10
The Ringing Bell (1978): it's considered a classic for a reason! The idea that you create what will destroy you, and love it for doing so... the idea that when you force yourself to grow up you can never go back... There will come a time when you don't fit into your old life anymore, and you did that to yourself. You destroyed what part of you was innocent and belonged here, but you've also turned your back on the world that changed you. So where do you go? What are you now? What good is a strength that requires you face the world alone? 9/10
The Sea Prince and the Fire Child (or, The Legend of Sirius) (1981): a Romeo and Juliet retelling that kind of dragged, to be honest. I love the way that the fire is animated and the underwater backgrounds; they're whimsical but there's a real primordial quality to them that I like, because the ocean is weird! The sea god design is excellent and there are some sea creatures that are truly delightful, like the bunny fish and whatever Mabuse is supposed to be. Sirius is offputtingly noodly though, and he's 80% of the movie. Didn't love this one. 5/10
Faeries (1981): I cannot believe how they pronounce "Niamh" in this. The folklore designs are really cute though. 2/10
Freddie as FR07 (or, Freddie the Frog) (1992): terrible. I should make a video essay about this film because it is batshit insane in like the worst way. Completely not worth your time but I'd love to tell you about it sometime. 0/10
Felidae (1994): what is it about violent cat series that get at me!!!! A gory noir film made about cats solving a series of cat murders? Some of the imagery really was wild here; I loved the nightmare with Mendel and the puppet corpses. Trauma and eugenics and vengeance at the heart of this one too, the villain was without a doubt a monster but you still felt for them anyway. Decently scary and well-paced, a great tribute to the source material. Also, uncomfortable cat sex scene. 7/10
The Last Unicorn (1982): all of my female friends apparently decided to watch this one at the same time, and we all got weirdly emotional about it. To escape a fetishized genocide your body is violated and turned into something that will no longer interest the conquerers. You do not want this change because this is not your body. Every day is a torment knowing that you slip further and further away from what you know you are. Every day you forget more and more of what you used to be. Eventually, you wouldn't want to go back even if you could remember. Even if you are not happy, you are safe. You are alone, all alone with the ghosts that haunt your footsteps. 9/10
The Plague Dogs (1982): GOD ok. These poor things. These poor dogs haunted by pain that they don't deserve -- "I'm a good dog." "I don't think they're doing it because they think you're a bad dog." -- and are just trying to live a good life once they escape their captors. One of them even remembers life before the torture, when he had a comfortable home and love. But now he thinks it's his own fault he's lost it. They wander the wild, hopeless, unloved except by each other, and what can they do? The world is so much bigger than them. Every decision that shapes their lives is out of their hands, and has nothing to do with them. They're cursed by the narrative. They didn't ask for this. They don't even know what they're doing out here, or where they're meant to go; they have no purpose and no reason to keep fighting for their own survival except that it's the only thing they know how to do. You start this life treading water and you end it treading water. The water swallows you all the same. 10/10
Rock a Doodle (1991): Elvis chicken???????? 5/10
Happily Ever After (1989): truly one of the most bizarre films I've ever seen. A sequel to Snow White that quite literally no one asked for and no one saw coming. I am forever haunted by "dwarfelles." I do love the prince's grubby little creature design though, he's so cute! 1/10 for him only.
Once Upon a Forest (1993): I remember so vividly watching this one when I was home sick from school one time. I don't why it stuck with me; it's not very good. 3/10 because cute animal designs
Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland (1989): gorgeous. adorable. such beautiful paintings and incredible character design! there were so many people connected to this project and it's such a labor of love. it has such a ghibli style and feel about it even though that's not technically the studio that produced it! 8/10
I also tracked down some of The Animals of Farthing Wood (1993-1995), but I'd love to watch the whole thing sometime. The Redwall series is also on my list, I loved those books as a kid.
Definitely taking recommendations! Have you seen any weird animated films you need to inflict on others?

For the LIS 2 ask game: 2, 6, 8, 26, 27
2. favorite non-brother character
Karen--not in the "i want to hang out with her" favorite but the "I want to study her for days on end because she is so very Fascinating" favorite. ditches her sons for a decade and explains herself with the most bizarre teenage-leftist word salad i've ever seen. brings condoms on a trip to rescue said sons from a cult. is mia for esteban's death, multiple explosions, and Sean's eye, but shows up based on a letter from some weirdo she's never met. reenacts her and Esteban's fight-and-smoke-together ritual with Sean like he's a ken doll of his dead dad. sets a church on fire for her sons and protects them after they commit a murder. turns herself in to the cops because she loves her kids and doesn't want to spend too much time with them. refers to having children as "breeding" in that one letter to her parents. i need to put her under a microscope so bad.
6. favorite scene
torn between dancing on the bed at the beginning (FUCKING feelings) and the blood brothers border massacre (FUCKING chills). the dance scene is so sweet and also an amazing parallel to the canon romance pairing from lis1, which I love, and blood brothers is just--epic. watching Daniel reach his full potential like that, how far he'll go to protect his brother, is the most beautiful and spectacular thing in the world.
8. favorite choice
definitely the Lisbeth one. it's such an amazing culmination to an already brilliant and terrifying ep. i'm a slut for weird parallels and fucked-up christian imagery and it's just so...so fucking good, my god (literally).
the way Daniel just raises her into the air like he did the cross in the earlier scene? the way that was just a performance, but things are different now and Daniel isn't a little wolf cub doing tricks, he remembers he has teeth? Sean's cutting Daniel's metaphorical puppet strings and Daniel hoisting Lisbeth up on telekinetic ones? the callback to the fucking puma from ep 2? the fact "you raise me up" is literally a christian song i remember singing as a kid and this is the harsh reality of being actually raised high by your god? the way the heavenly space around them has been transformed into hell, all pretensions at eden stripped away? the jarring difference between the last ep where Sean is permanently marked by Daniel losing control and now he knows exactly what he's doing and the difference is so fucking real?
the way it's the most ruthless choice in the game, maybe even in the franchise, this vengeance for nothing more than vengeance's sake, and it turns out that's a perfectly good reason? Sean facing Lisbeth at Daniel's side where she had been only a few minutes ago? Daniel saying she tried to use me like he's heartbroken and she hurt you with the fury of a thousand suns? the wiki describing Lisbeth as being hung from a "telekinetic noose" and it calls back to Sean being "Judge Diaz" to Daniel's executioner, to Judas Iscariot hanging himself, to Daniel's dream suicide at the beginning of the ep, to hell, even Kate Marsh's suicide in lis1?
the cain vs abel vibes of this whole ep, brother and brother unsure who is the righteous and who is the damned, sean's forehead literally being blooded like a mark of cain, only to turn together on the force that tried to split them up like that? the way Lisbeth has spent the whole episode forcing godhood upon Daniel until she suddenly realizes that gods have the capacity for judgement? Lisbeth trying to adopt Daniel and Karen coming back for him, but Sean is the one who gets to influence what Daniel ultimately does, the secondary access to godlike power that he's earned through all his hard work and self-sacrifice, his love and care and determination to fix his mistakes, where the others have only offered abuse and neglect?
the alternative where Sean tells Nicholas shoot me in the face and live with it before he blows Lisbeth away and lives with it just fine? Karen seeing what her children are truly capable of in every sense of the word, having to live with what they became to survive when she wasn't there for them? Sean spending the whole episode being helpless and heartbroken and brutalized in so many ways, only to very suddenly be gifted more power than he's ever had in his life, this complete control over the life and death over another human being? how fucking satisfying it is for him to either kill his little brother's abuser or let Daniel do it himself?
just. fucking. fucking HELL (literally). this episode.
26. one headcanon?
i kind of like the idea of the Diaz family having a generational reputation in Puerto Lobos for being a little bit Weird--like nothing on Daniel's scale, but there are rumors, whispers, stories of miracles and ghosts and strange happenings on their land, of secret truths older than colonization. not everybody can decide if it's of god or the devil, but when the parents die and young Esteban leaves, the whole town feels like it's lost something more than just a mechanic. nobody really has the guts to go onto the property until two young brothers set up shop there, and the other citizens can't help thinking something important has settled back into place.
27. one au?
detroit become human! inspired by this art and a playthrough i've been watching a friend do, lol. would love Esteban as an android mechanic taking in two lost little androids from a discontinued child line and giving them a home and a last name, only for them to get in trouble when they're caught "deviating" (gaining sentience) and he gets murdered defending them from the police, so they have to go on the run...

the way they fired rayman like. As soon as he "stepped out of line". oh my god. eden couldnt count on him to be their voice anymore because of that One offscript incident w/ Red. in fact what happened on TV that day could've been framed by civilians as another "hybrids vs humans" thing, where rayman is shown to be the aggressor to Red, who is seen as a hero. this only contributes to the already roiling conflicts between the two races.
they couldnt trust rayman to be their voice anymore because he stepped out of that perfect faux neutral stance he seems to have on TV. he had something to say about Red shittalking aliens/monsters/hybrids. Eden just ditched him, did him dirty. Eden Corporation's puppet began to move on its own, so to speak, and they didnt like that. So they had to rid of it

Created Faux Eden
https://archiveofourown.org/works/50511223
Xornoth was a demon, he killed hundreds, he was told of in legends of her danger. Not like Pearl cared cause this demon was on her land!
She stomped to the demon, her steps reverberating on the ground. Each step wheat grew and wrapped around her legs but Pearl ripped them out the dirt. He just stood there with his red corruption on her land. He still had not seen her…. Good. She stopped in front of her field a few 10 or 20 feet from the demon.
“Hey! Get off my fields!” She yelled at the demon. He turned its ugly face to Pearl. Man… he looked bad and so scary. Pearl rolled her eyes, she wasn't scared.
Oh if it isn't the Farmer Queen. Here to die?
He spoke in a scratchy voice that to an outsider would be scary, but to Pearl it was a joke, a lie to be scary. It would take more to scare Pearl, a lot more. She grinned with the demon's cocky grin.
“Oh. I know something will happen to one of us Xornoth. All I have to say is…” She took out her sword, gleaming under the sun and smirked. “... wanna spar?”
The demon laughed, he thought she was joking!
Bring it then. Then your death will be slow and painful.
She giggled, laughing with the demon, no.. AT the demon. He really thought she would lose!?
"Fine…. Watch your left."
Pearl shot at the demon, in seconds she was face to face with him. Xornoth couldn't react as she kicked him to the side and into the trees. This was gonna be fun.
— — — —
Xornoth stood up. The Farmer had kicked him into the trees. He got up before he felt a fist collide with his chest. It was the Farmer… and she smiled and winked.
"Bye bye." Then he went flying into the lake. He was pissed.
He was the demon Xornoth! He was the most powerful in the land! He would not lose!
He rose out of the water, and blasted fire from his claws, burning the forest. He saw it burn down. But… the Farmer wasn't to be seen…
Slurp!
The demon looked next to himself, the Farmer was there drinking out a bottle of water. She looked at him, holding the bottle out.
"You want some?"
Xornoth shot fire at her but she moved out the way. She didn't seem to take this battle at all seriously. Exor! She didn't even seem to be scared at all!
Xornoth flew to her kingdom, he knew that she wouldn't risk it. The fire seemed to stop as it dispersed unnaturally.
He landed and the Farmer a few feet from him landed as well.
He blasted fire at her, summoning minions out the earth to attack.
"Ooooo this is getting interesting now." She cracked her knuckles, making the area shiver and the fire to dissipate.
You are a nuance, more so then the gnome, more than the wizards attempts to stop me.
The Farmer froze at the mention of the wizard.
"What did you say about Gem?" Her voice seemed to distort but Xornoth ignored it.
I will corrupt her. She will be a vessel of power for me. She will be my puppet.
The Farmer pulled out her blade.
"No she will not."
Xornoth raised his hand to blast the Farmer off the face of the server… until pain overtook the demon. He screamed as his hand fell off in a bloody stump,
What even are you!? No mortal should have this much power!
At that he heard the farmer laughing again.
— — — —
Pearl was ecstatic. It was so boring for a while she thought of starting a war herself! And not a lame fish war, a real one! With bloodshed, and violence! Oh she can see it now…. What was she doing again? Oh yeah… “fighting” Xornoth.
She turned to look at the demon, she cut a pretty messy cut in one swing. Her aim is getting a little rusty, she guessed. She normally could cut through the torso with barely an issue. Oh well.
Pearl jumped out of the way as Xornoth tried to grab her. He looked mad.
I will kill you! I will corrupt the lands! And you will be torn to shreds!
Pearl kept dodging as Xornoth let loose his minions. She knew that he would become a lot more deadly if she kept this up… and against her better judgment she let herself get hit and she froze. She wanted to fight him but she knew he would just get stronger and Gem would be endangered.
She watched as the monsters attacked her, biting, cutting. Xornoth looked on in confusion. She was waiting while he stood still. Then it came
[PearlesentMoon was shot by Stray]
— — — —
Except… Pearl wasn't dead. She was still there and said Stray was dead, her blade in its skull.
Xornoth was confused… and scared. She wasn't dead yet and his anger was dissipating into fear. Pearl looked at him… and smiled.
"We can end this now Xornoth. You can run off to cute little Joey or die a painful end."
The demon stepped backwards… that wasn't the Farmers voice. It was one of static and cracking.
She looked at him, his eyes seemed to be glass. She smiled.
"Run."
And without a second thought Xornoth ran for the first time in his existence. He ran and ran.
— — — —
Pearl watched him run.. she giggled. He was so fun! She hoped to see him again… but first she had something to do with the WRA…. She will find him later and challenge him.
She went back to her house and laid down with Bingo next to her. It was time to relax for a little bit. Her fields were safe now at least.
And hey! She was entertained by his attempts to beat her. Not like it would even matter, this was her world. Hers and hers alone. No one elses

Eyes blazed with indignation, fists clenched at her sides. " Adam, " she seethed, as though she was going to start something, but the fire within had been extinguished somewhat when she truly took in the sight before her. Her heart sank as she stepped into the dimly lit apartment, her eyes scanning the scene of Adam nestled among pillows and blankets. The weight of guilt pressed heavily upon her as she realized the extent of his injuries and the time he had spent recovering. Despite the anger simmering within her over Adam's reckless actions in Eden, her concern for him now overshadowed everything else. Seeing him in such a vulnerable state stirred up a mix of emotions within her. On one hand, she felt a surge of frustration and betrayal at his decision to take Lute to Eden, risking both their safety, among other things. On the other hand, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy and worry. And heaven knows she is a woman of compassion and forgiveness. Approaching him cautiously, Eve's expression softened as she took in his maskless figure. " The door was open. You guys should really invest in some better security, " she quipped, attempting to inject some levity into the tense atmosphere. But deep down, she knew that it couldn't erase the gravity of the situation. With a sigh, she stopped at the front of what she supposed was their bed, hands folded at her front and eyes cast to a spot on the ground.

Well, it was as the saying went- hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. But had he really? If anything, he was the one feeling scorned...set up, even. So long had he already toiled away in heaven without her looking for every way there was to defy the decree that demanded the two of them remain in separate aftermaths as per the scale's tipping. Of course it hadn't worked, and he thought for the longest time what the point in anything was without a support beam when heaven was just as eager to hold him up with puppet strings. Until now, of course...now that he realized it was possible to sink into the depths he'd bitterly sought. Of course by then, it was too late for him to bother with the idea of reuniting with her when it could never be within a balanced existence for the rest of them despite her little impromptu visits the seraphims determined would help ease the ebb and flow so long as she kept moving between the realms. Of course NOW they'd think that.
"Dunno why they even let you up here anyway..." He grumbled, though he knew the gist of it from the meetings he half paid attention to. He'd rather chalk it up to the seraphim liking to fuck with him though. Especially now after the concert in Eden. "Not like my exterminations haven't handled the issue." Well, not with him laid up with his wings still battered up from the spectacle of an angelic trust fall, but hey...there's still six months til the next one, anyway. Granted, he might have even been up on his feet now if those garden guards hadn't gotten a little rough with him when tossing him and Lute back out on their asses when he could barely muster even a flutter from the energy spent during the soul melding, but nothing quite like hitting the dirt after having stuck it to the man.
His punishment was mostly just having to hear the subsequent partying in heaven that stretched out throughout the following weeks since a heaven-side proposal was hardly an every day kind of affair. Payback for him keeping them hostage to his song for a good week, more likely than actual celebration of heaven's general bonded and imprinted onto one of a much lower service. The higher, stuffier seraphim would see it that way with all those eyes of theirs, but the mortal souls that saw him and his lieutenant as the junkie band celebrities they were among certain creches would be living it up on their behalf for sure.
Still tucked beneath the sore safety of a wing, he waited to see if she'd come over and step on him or something to drive forth a point that he'd gone too far with not only taking an unauthorized angel into Eden but also proposing to her there...of all places- he would only grimace when he shifted to peek through his feathers when she failed to deliver a blow quick enough for his patience to ponder.
"You can't tell? I mean, frankly 'thought I looked like shit, but. I'll take a compliment right now ~ " As the wing dropped to reveal him resting his chin on his forearms entangled in the mess of blankets, the unmistakable glow of a new shard in his halo set beside the other two shimmered with an opaline light. "Probs in bad taste though, sweetie. I did just get married. And she might not nurse me back to health if she finds you here complimenting me. But I bet you'd like that, so...fuck me, I guess."

23 Books I Want To Read in 2023
This post is based on this tag because after the disaster it was with me picking those books I hope I make better choices for this year. No one tagged me though.
1. The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard: As I mentioned before this one was recommended by friends that love it so hopefully I will like it as much. (DNF)
2. The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe: I heard interesting things about this one and the synopsis makes me really curious. I am sure it will at least be an interesting experience.
3. East of Eden by John Steinbeck: I don’t know a single person that did not really like this book and that makes me really curious. Even people that usually have different tastes from each other seem to agree on this one.
4. Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata: I only have this book left to read by this author (I think). It’s a short story collection but I hope it will be as impactful as her novels.
5. The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro: I am really hoping this one doesn’t disappoint me. If I have time I would also like to read The Buried Giant.
6. Goodbye Tsugumi by Banana Yoshimoto: I want to try some books by this author this year and I hope I chose well.
7. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner: After loving I am Glad My Mom Died I want to try more memoirs and I heard good things about this one.
8.The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez: I’ve heard good things about this one so I am willing to try a space opera for once.
9. Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler: I only have this series and the short stories left from this author. Please don’t disappoint me again, Butler.
10. Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo: I listened to 3 of her books this year and it was fantastic! I hope I can also listen to this one on audiobook because it’s written in poetry and narrated by the author so the performance is amazing.
11. Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao: I really liked Iron Widow so I am sure I will enjoy the sequel when it comes out this year. (publication moved to 2024)
12. Small Gods by Terry Pratchett: Hopefully I will be in the mood to read more Discworld novels this year and I own a physical copy of this book so this is the one I picked.
13. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng: Honestly I am just curious about this author’s works in general. I don’t even know what they are about, but apparently they’re really good.
14. In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune: This book seems to be in the same line as the last two by the author and I enjoyed those. Plus, it has robots in nature and one is named HAP! Hopefully, it will be good.
15. The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin: I just want to be done with this trilogy. I love the first book, but the second not so much. I heard the 3rd is better than the 2nd but not as good as the 1st. I was hoping to reread the first two before starting this one but I don’t think I will have time for that.
16. The Poetry of Robert Frost by Robert Frost: Hopefully an entire year is enough time for me to read all his poems.
17. The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper: I know someone that loves this series and the first book was alright, but the 2nd is her favourite so I want to give it a try.
18. The Grief of Stones by Katherine Addison: Need to catch up even though I thought the previous book was just ok.
19. The Dutch House by Ann Patchett: I heard good things about this author and I hope I picked the right book to start with her works.
20. I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem by Maryse Condé: I heard only one person talk about this book, but that person has good taste so I bought it.
21. Emma by Jane Austen: I have a feeling that I might like this one more than Pride and Prejudice. If I read this one and Persuasion this year I am done with Austen works.
22. The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell: Another one I heard good things about.
23. Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater: This seems like a fun and cozy book for whenever I am in the mood.
