Daily reminder that it happened twice for someone to be compared to Oromë while riding into battle. The first one was Fingolfin. The second one was Théoden.
Fingolfin, burning with so much rage, Beleriand ablaze, his nephews dead, eyes so bright and inhuman and otherwordly that he gets mistaken for a Vala. And he challenged Morgoth to a fight, and wounded him seven times, and scarred him for the rest of eternity, and orcs made no boast about that duel, and no songs were sung about it, for the sorrow was too deep.
And Théoden. Just. Théoden. Whose mind was poisoned, whose son was dead, and the world was falling apart around him, but who would not stand down and would not give up. And the armies of Rohan came, the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them.
Something about Fingolfin riding out to challenge Morgoth in wrath and despair, raging at the world and nothing going as it should be — something about Théoden riding out in wrath and hope, because there is a better future and he will be damned if he doesn't do everything in his power to lead the world to it.

I honestly love it when stories with neurodivergent, trans, gay, etc. characters or themes are set in fictional or fictionalized Old Time Periods, before any of this terminology even came into existence.
They are not "gay" or "straight" - they are in love.
They are not "autistic" - they are weird.
They are not "trans" - they've simply changed how they represent themselves to be in line with what they are.
In a way, because these words are never present, because they are never diagnosed or feel the need to find an identity and a safe place to show it, it brings to light their undisputable existence even more. That they are normal and human. That this may bring problems and misunderstandings, and also joys and opportunities. That they are compex and diverse with their own personal traits that lead them to each particular expression of their identity, and that their needs and innate characteristics affect how they act and present themselves. It puts these people out of the "discussion box" and clearly among all the other differently weird humans.
In a way, it pushes aside this debate to scientifically or theologically rationalize trans-ness, queerness; it pushes aside this cold mechanical rationalizing of kindness towards the neurodivergent and disabled. Instead, without all this terminology, we are confronted with the simple humanity of it all.
It shouldn't honestly matter if you are confirmed to be neurodivergent - the world should be kind to weird and obsessive and awkward and forgetful and different people anyway. It shouldn't matter that there are gay frogs in nature - there are gay people in nature, and they deserve to be treated as people, inseparable from the rich interwoven tapestry of human expression and love.
All of these discussions are real and important, because they allow us to achieve real political or legislative or cultural results with real people, millions of them, each weird in their own way. But it's so nice and refreshing to see them pushed aside from time to time, to reveal the simple truths of kindness and humanity behind it all. To explore the ways of caring, learning and communicating - and, after all, isn't that what truly matters at the heart of it?

my beautiful and intelligent friends, strangers of the internet: if you live in the Northern Hemisphere and your mind has suddenly "just been bad" lately, this is your reminder that October is when the brain weasels hatch for the winter.
if you suspect you are suffering from an infestation of brain weasels, track your symptoms, ask for a vitamin D level check, and research ways to deal with Seasonal Effective Disorder!
( ˘ ³˘)♥ take care of yourselves this spoopy season!

“Do you think this is my original bellybutton?”
Kaidan reluctantly opens his eyes, his face scrunching up as he parses the question. “What?”
Shepard points, as if that will help. “My bellybutton. Miranda had to reconstruct so much of me, so much of my skin, that I don’t know what’s new and what’s old.”
“Does it matter?”
“No… but it’s weird, right? I mean the bellybutton had already served its purpose. It’s not like she was using it. There would be no reason to give me another one if I lost the first one.”
“Go to bed, Shep.”
“I mean, there’s no way Alliance intel bothered to write down somewhere that I was an innie instead of an outie. What if she had gotten it wrong? How weird would that be? Die as an outie, wake up as an innie with a vestigial bellybutton reconstructed purely for aesthetic reasons.”
“Innies are more common.”
Shepard isn’t even listening. “I mean when’s the last time you saw a model with an outie? You’d notice something like that.”
Kaidan turns over and ignores his insomniac commander.
Shepard pokes him. “You think that’s part of the Cerberus agenda? Perfect the human race by increasing the proportion of innies to outies? Prejudiced bastards.”
Kaidan sighs. “You really want to know my thoughts on the Cerberus agenda?”
“I do. I really do.”
“I think that the most effective thing you could do right now to thwart it is to go the fuck to sleep.”

I really hope that one day Bagi has a conversation with Tina about how she is polyamorous.
She’s mentioned it multiple times to multiple different people, and I really hope she explores that part of her character.

Title: Couldn't possibly know the feeling
Summary: After Lancelot's disappearance King had a small chat with Ban
Note: Very Short. I wrote this just now and it's unedited so there will be grammar mistakes.
---
It's been weeks after Lancelot's disappearance and Ban never stopped, he never gave up on his search for his son. He would drown himself in alcohol just to forget the guilt and painful ache in his chest. Elaine is growing more concerned as days go by so she asks his brother to pay them a visit. Ban and King may look like they don't get along but they do care about each other, they're all friends after all.
King accepted and once he got there Ban immediately invited him over for a drink, clearly already drunk off his ass. King sighed and took a seat next to him as Ban clumsily poured him a drink.
“I’d be careful if I were you, you might actually die from alcohol poisoning, and you can die now, you’re mortal.” King said.
“I know.” Ban grumbled.
“Elaine is extremely worried about you and we are too.” King took a sip from his drink.
Ban tsked. “Just shut up and drink.”
King sighs, “Listen, I know it's tough but you have to put some faith in Lancelot. For such a young boy he’s quite capable, besides Jericho's with him right, surely she wouldn't let anything harm him.”
“Easy for you to say.” Band growled under his breath.
“What was that?”
“I said It's easy for you to say!!!” Ban shouted, slamming his mug on the table.
“It's not like it's your kid that went missing!!!”
King's eyes widened and for a moment and a pained laugh escaped his mouth.
“You couldn't possibly know the feeling of losing your child!!! So don't come here and tell me this shit!!”
King lowered his head and taking a deep breath he stood up from his seat.
“You're right, I’m sorry Ban.”
He chuckled. “I'm supposed to comfort you as Elaine said but it seems like I did the opposite, I’ll be going back now.”
Ban noticed there's a sudden change in King's demeanour but he couldn't quite pinpoint what it is. He's too drunk and angry to care anyway.
Elaine rushed in just in time to see King leave the room.
“I heard shouting. It didn't go well, did it?”
“No.” King shook his head. “I just made him mad, sorry about that.”
“Big brother… What happened?” Elaine spoke softly as she flew closer to King.
“Why are you crying?” Elaine asked as she wiped down the tears that were falling from his eyes.
“Big Brother.” Elaine’s hands tremble as her hands go down to his shoulders. “Please... Say something, or at least let me read your heart."
Elaine took a moment and she gasped upon hearing everything.
King painfully laughed. “Looks like I can't hide this from you anymore can't I."
“Hey! Stop it!! This is no laughing matter.”
“Elaine, it's alright.” King smiled. “It's already been 10 years, there's no way I can find him now. I even accepted the worst, still I can't help but hope.”
Elaine's vision started to get blurry as tears started pooling from her eyes. “Why didn't you say anything?”
“I couldn't possibly disturb you, everyone is busy with their own lives.”
“But what about now, I asked you and everyone for help.”
“This is different.”
“How is this different?”
“The kids are much bigger now, they can handle themselves. Granted they're still children but… you know what I mean.”
With a sigh, King stepped forward. “I’ll be leaving now. If you want I can drop by again. I’ll probably bring Sixtus with me. He seems to enjoy hanging around with Ban."
Just as King left and flew away, Ban stepped outside of the room and asked. “What did you two talk about?”
Elaine turned around to meet her husband in the eyes. “Hey Ban, did you know why Harlequin changed Galehaut’s name to Mertyl?”

I rediscovered something I hadn't forgotten, but I forgot the name of. An RPG system that is described as "the most realistic gun combat system ever made - and not in a good way", and it was made by a NASA engineer.
Phoenix Command.
Have some tables to illustrate my point

Always Come Take Me Down
The barest hint of a snore coming from where Julie's head is resting against his thigh is what alerts Luke that she's asleep and no longer working on lyrics. He'd been so in his own head, humming melodies and jotting them down, that it was more an afterthought sort of processing of the fact that she had been quiet for a bit now. He knows it happened, but couldn't say when. What is he supposed to do? Leave her be? Wake her up? If it were Alex or Reggie, he'd let them sleep if they had just come from home, but definitely would wake them up with a wet willy. That's not an option this time! Not when it's the girl you most definitely have feelings for. Feelings that are complicated by the fact you are dead and couldn't even touch until a few weeks ago. Oh god, he's starting to sweat. Can ghosts even sweat?
The pen in Julie's hand shifts as her grip relaxes and he realizes something he can do. Reaching over, trying his best not to jostle her, he grabs the notebook that is still propped up against the makeshift easel that is her legs. Gently prying it from under hand, he sets it on the arm of the couch on his other side. Julie shuffles for a second, her head moving into a more comfortable position. Suddenly, all of Luke's panic dissipates. How can he feel anything but lucky? He lightly brushes his fingers across her forehead, trailing along one of the many curls that currently frames her face. It reminds him of the phone cord from the kitchen phone back home. The 90s version of home. It was one of the many things not still there that he'd had to get used to when he'd started visiting his parents. How do people do it? Make phone calls without the cord to entangle their fingers in. Memories of calling all the clubs (both music and book) he could think of while winding the spiral cord around an index finger just barely too tight so that it started cutting of circulation. The realization that more loops fit around it now that he's had a growth spurt.
Shaking off the memories, his eyes focus back on the studio. Looking down, he finds that he's wrapped one of Julie's curls around his finger like the phone cord. It's softer than the weird plastic, but not as smooth. He slowly unwinds his finger, marveling that he can even do that. They still don't know what happened that night that allowed them to touch. But he was given a third chance. He'd told Julie that he'd only had one real regret in life. How he'd left things with his mom. And he hadn't lied that night, that he still had no regrets in this life. Afterlife. Whatever. It all feels the same at this point whenever he's with her. But he does know he wants to do better by her than he had at the beginning of their friendship. He wants her to know he'll always choose her. He won't bail on her and cause her to cry again. It's just not an option.
A melody drifts through his head with those thoughts and he can't help but quietly hum along as he fiddles with the ends of her hair. He was nine when the song originally came out. It wasn't exactly his scene, even at nine, but you couldn't just escape a top 40 hit in the 80s. It was everywhere. At the grocery store with his mom, on the radio, at the arcade, the bowling alley, and Reggie's house before his parents started fighting. But the more he hums, the more Luke realizes how apt the lyrics are. Everything he wants to tell Julie, promise her. It's all there in the lyrics of this song that feels only seven years old but is actually... crap. Thirty-three years old. Is this really their life?
The lyrics slip out of him in a soft lullaby as he continues gently brushing her hair away from her temples.
"We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I"
He pauses at the next lines. Asking for a full commitment in their current state is probably too much, even if he does think he could give her better than any other guy. Her friend Nick pops into his head. He's been coming by a lot since the Orpheum. No, that's not the point right now. The point is communicating how he feels about her. He skips those lines.
"I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand"
Here he puts all his intent into the words, pledging them to her. Never again will he be the reason she feels alone and abandoned.
"Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you"
Slender fingers latch onto his and Julie lets out a deep, content, sigh. Her eyes peek open and look up at him and he can't help the smile that shines down on her.
Her own voice is low and quiet with sleep when she asks, "Did you just rickroll me?"
Luke's smile turns to confusion.
"What's a rickroll?"
