Who’s ready for Buddy Dawn villain era (real)

Something ironic about how the Bad Kids finally have a second to relax after the Last Stand, acing all of their classes, only to have the world around them get significantly worse.

Sure, they had some little victories - Fabian went on a date, Riz found the rogue teacher, some nice little family moments - but now that they have time to focus on the mystery rather than their schoolwork, they’re starting to realize it’s a lot worse than they thought.

Buddy Dawn was resurrected by some entity and now worships the rage god. There’s also suspicion that the same thing happened to the other Rat Grinders.

The only adult remaining with any administrative position in school is corrupted somehow.

The Thistlespring Tree has been tampered with, affecting a large area.

Everything and everyone they’ve been looking into is connected in some way but they don’t yet know how.

The Last Stand was supposed to be the hardest test they ever take, but something tells me that’s going to end up being the easiest part of they school year.

I’m having thoughts about Buddy Dawn.

So he obviously and painfully resembles Kristen and who she was before she met the Bad Kids. His death just strengthens that notion. But I don’t know if he will turn from Helio if he’s brought back.

Kristen faced a betrayal when meeting her god. He brushed off her question and was nothing like she thought he’d be. Buddy was betrayed by friends.

They are well into the school year. These are people he’s become close with, people he trusted. Even if they’re just stomping on rats in the woods, adventuring parties have to trust each other because you can’t be distracted by wondering if your party has your back when you’re facing a big monster.

Buddy, who came to a new school, bonded in some way with the Rat Grinders. He genuinely seemed to like everyone he met despite trying to “save” them. We know that’s a product of how he was raised and not necessarily indicative of who he is. He found a group and connected with them and in return, they slit his throat without hesitation.

Both clerics were betrayed by someone who was supposed to be there for them. The difference is Kristen was let down by her religion and Buddy was let down by the people around him.

And the worst part? It would be easier if Helio sucked because at least then Buddy wouldn’t be the only one. Kristen would be right, she told him. But for him to see how she and her friends work together and take care of each other in his last moments? That’s gotta hurt more than anything.

Brennan Lee Mulligan is truly a master of both immersive and realistic storytelling because what do you mean he printed out actual physical exams for his the intrepid heroes to take

Because. This is the second Rat Grinder Cleric to be killed by their own party. And and and it was described not as a random panicked action but just a change in plans. Kipperlilly didn’t hesitate, but was level-headed enough to look Kristen in the eye, smile, then MURDER Buddy???? Knowing that they stole all of the gems used in Revivify so she was killing him permanently???? We knew she was bad but the fact that she’s this evil??? Are the other Rat Grinders truly on her side or is something more nefarious happening?

THAT WAS FOUR ROUNDS OF COMBAT.

There were lots of legendary actions and reactions and prepared actions but that was FOUR ROUNDS.

So IMAGINE that you transfer to a new school where your adventuring party just kills rats in the woods and then you’re the designated cleric for the popular kids in their Big Battle.
