For the fake fic titles: "Tort Law and Other Aphrodisiacs"
for this ask game! - send me a title and I’ll write a fake fic summary to go with it! 🍓
In the span of six months, Don learns much more than he ever wanted to about what you can reasonably sue someone over in the surprisingly lawless American legal system. In the same six months, he also learns which places have the best breakfast by Sloan’s apartment and the weird trick it takes to get the water in her shower to come out at a normal, habitable temperature. So, it’s not all bad…
[ AKA - Don and Sloan, from Election Night to Patriot’s Day, roughly]

If byler isn't endgame, the duffers need to give a lot of explanation about:
"It's not my fault you don't like girls"
Airport reunion and Mike's behavior
Mike's reaction to El kissing him in the end of S3
Mike and Will paired togheter exactly like the other ships while El was alone the whole S3
Will's conversation with Joyce "I'm not gonna fall in love". What's the point of it if when he did fell in love, it's unrequited?
Will being in love with Mike since at least S2 (the script saying that Will was looking at Mike while dancing with that girl)
The directing choice of the Milevn breakup scene in comparison with byler rain fight and the aftermath (Will being devastated, El looking at other guys in magazine, Max saying that Mike is going to be crawling back to her begging for forgiveness in the same episode he actually do it for Will instead)
Why Mike didn't call Will and if he did and that line from Dustin was any indication, why tf he didn't just say it?
"I was worrying to much about El, I feel like I lost you". Why, tho?
Mike's inability to say ily
Why to use Will's feelings to save mlvn relationship?
Why not to just finish this storyline on S4, instead of let Mike clueless that the painting is from Will until the last season and also about his feelings.
Why Mike and El weren't talking that much by the end of S4 while byler was paired together, like the other canon couples.
The parallels.
Why have will reminding Mike of his whole speach before Mike could finally say he loves El and not having Mike doing it on his own?
The "shared looks" thing
Why Will was in LITERALLY ALL MLVN SCENES from s4
This and so much more. I just wanted to ask... WHY???????

actually i dont think ive posted my thoughts on ofmd s2 overall here yet have i?
ok here goes: i think it had incredibly high highs, and at some parts i genuinely enjoyed it more than i did the first season, episode 6 being peak imo. however, it had equally abysmal lows with some glaring writing-, tone- and pacing issues that all came to a head in the finale.
i once read someone say that, if you ever feel like a finale ruined the whole story, maybe you should take another look at the story. there were most likely cracks and problems all along, and the finale did nothing besides dashing the hope that these would perhaps be addressed later. very rarely do genuinely well written stories go completely off the rails in the finale and ruin the whole thing.
i think this is applicable here in some ways, SPECIFICALLY in regards to edward. good god edward was a MESS this season, and it's so sad because i loved the starting point! the kraken era was absolutely terrifying and iconic as FUCK but... they shouldn't have leaned so hard into the drama and trauma of it all. don't get me wrong, i loved that it did. it's one of my favorite parts of the season and i'm so glad we got it. but if they wanted this arc to work with the overarching plot as they wrote it, they would've had to lighten up the tone here CONSIDERABLY. had they played the kraken era for comedy then sure! edward's bad youtuber apology would've been funny. his fast redemption would've been less jarring. the lack of consequences less disturbing. but as it stands in the show, this arc is too dark to function with the later episodes.
i feel like they wanted to have their cake and eat it too here. they wanted the gritty drama of ed coming off the hinges entirely but also didn't want to deal with the aftermath of such a heavy arc in their silly pirate romcom. be that due to time constraints and budget cuts or because they were simply unwilling to, doesn't really matter in the end. the result is the same either way: a very tonally messy season with some accidentally troubling implications regarding abuse.
and mentioning troubling implications regarding abuse; izzy. my poor, poor izzy... his arc was absolutely glorious. i liked izzy the second he showed up in s1 and i was absolutely EATING this season up in that regard. and i think in this case, they genuinely did fuck it all up in the finale with that one stupid choice:
choosing to kill izzy was the DUMBEST thing they couldve done here.
ive talked about this over and over and over again. ive reblogged so many meta posts. and still i am left absolutely flabbergasted by how stupid of a decision this was. the fridging, playing at the fallen woman trope, killing the beating heart of the season and the character who delivers what is essentially a thesis statement, killing off the character whose arc is about coming to terms with his disability, having him die in edward's arms, comforting him and apologizing after an entire season of finding community and love outside of edward, the absolutely godawful pacing of it all, the extremely easy and obvious solution of just having IZZY become the new captain of the revenge to mirror s1 and hammer home how much he has developed since then in one go... i could go on. and i have. it was a stupid writing decision, completely fucked the tone and pacing of the finale and took away attention and time from things that really would've deserved a better wrap up (lucius and black pete deserved better)
now. the whole prince ricky & zheng plot line... yeah that shit sucked ass, sorry. they bit off more than they could chew here. i honestly think those are the arc words of this season:
✨️ bit off more than they could chew ✨️
right off the bat: i think he was good as a concept. bringing in a foil for stede who just doesn't Get It as stede does could've made for very good comedy and drama (and to be fair there is some of that). but that shit got away from them extremely quickly. nothing about how he's implemented past his first episode works, and i think this is very specifically because he's mostly played as the comic relief in his debut episode. making this completely bumbling fool, who gets his nose hacked off on his first job, the main villain of your entire season is... definitely a choice. idk. he didn't work for me at all.
ok wow mentioning shit getting away from the writers. this definitely got away from me. this was supposed to be a short lil post. well. i guess tl;dr i loved this season but jesus christ there was a lot wrong with it. if you want to hear more thoughts. ask box is open. be my guest. i have more to say so even if you dont ask i might add more to this at some point but im tired and have work tmrw.

obviously I'd be thrilled to just get the whole PJO series adapted and then end it there. However: Heroes of Olympus as a story can be cleaned up sooooooo much in a way that PJO just doesn't need to be, and a tv adaptation offers the perfect opportunity to do so
like honestly my hottake is that I think Disney could solve both the problem of adapting a long, convoluted sequel series and a lot of the problems HOO as a story has if they a) do The Lost Hero and Son of Neptune in the same season and b) deliberately wait until the PJO actors are in their 20s to do it
Just thinking about this a bit more:
three 12-14 episode seasons, with TLH/SoN in S1, a modified MoA in S2 that deals with some of the Argo crews' HoH subplots, and then HoH/BoO in S3
Percy and Annabeth are in their 20s and newly engaged when he disappears. This sets up the arc of Percy dreaming about settling down with Annabeth in New Rome in a more organic, functional way and also gives us as viewers a chance to see that the aftermath of the Titan War has resulted in tangible, lasting change for the demigods of Camp Half-Blood
Grover replaces Coach Hedge as the Seven's collective Protector+chaperone, which solves the series' problem of Grover's absence and the absence of the PJO Trio's friendship
the whole show/story takes place over ~6 months instead of the year it did in the books, and Percy+Jason's individual quests happen concurrently (simply not letting Percy sleep for 8 months and making an episode where he establishes himself at the Roman camp for awhile before he's forced on the quest with Frank and Hazel would solve about half of the problems on the Roman side of the series)
Season-wise, things mostly sort themselves out:
The first season starts off introducing the Lost Hero trio and we find out that Percy's missing at the end of the first episode. The second episode opens with Percy waking up at the Wolf House and starting his journey to New Rome. We get one episode entirely devoted to amnesiac Jason and Percy integrating into the new camps, making friends, and learning about their missing counterpart before the quest plots start up.
The season then alternates between Jason, Piper, and Leo's "Find Hera" quest and Percy, Hazel, and Frank's Alaska quest, with intermittent jumps to the Greek and Roman efforts to find Percy and Jason. It ends with Percy and Jason regaining their memories and each camp realizing their leader is on the other side of the country in "enemy" territory.
The second season opens around a month later as the Argo II docks in New Rome. Percy and Jason have both been given time to make friends, integrate themselves into the opposing camp, and become adjusted to a different way of life with all of their memories intact. They haven't physically returned to their home camps as they've both independently come to the conclusion that Hera switched them to initiate inter-camp unity and are wary of doing anything that would disrupt that goal. However, Percy and Jason have both managed to get messages to Annabeth and Reyna respectively at some point in that month, so everyone knows everyone is safe when the Greeks finally arrive in New Rome.
Cue MoA's various plotlines, which would be cleaned up and streamlined significantly while also integrating in some of the HoH arcs like Hazel learning how to manipulate the Mist, Frank learning how to use his shapeshifting powers, Piper coming into her own as a daughter of Aphrodite, Leo's seventh wheel arc and the Calypso subplot, Jason struggling to figure out what his place is, the Jason-Nico friendship, etc. Also set up the Greek v. Roman dispute and Reyna following them to Greece. Season ends with the Annabeth-Arachne confrontation and Tartarus fall.
The third season combines HoH and BOO; the season alternates between Percy and Annabeth's journey through Tartarus while the rest of the Seven finish their various character arcs via gathering the elements for the Physicians' Cure and journeying to the Doors of Death. After they rescue Percy and Annabeth and close the Doors, they plan to head straight to Athens to take on Gaea. Reyna reaches them just after, and Annabeth sends her and Nico off with the Athena Parthenos with Grover as their Protector.
The final battle switches between The Seven+Gods vs. Gaea+The Giants at the Acropolis and the Greeks vs. Romans at Camp Half-Blood. The Gaea plotline is resolved at the Acropolis, the Greek-Roman plotline is resolved as Nico and Reyna triumphantly arrive at Camp Half-Blood with the statue, a functional Greek-Roman working relationship, and the gods' blessing. This helps streamline the mess that was Blood of Olympus and actually provides a workable story resolution.
We get a final aftermath/epilogue episode that sorts out and ties up all remaining plot threads, teases Solangelo, and ends with Percy returning home to see his mom and planning out how to move to New Rome after he and Annabeth get married.
Obviously this is the roughest possible sketch of how it could be done, but I genuinely believe doing something like that could fix some of the biggest issues HOO has conceptually while streamlining all of the quest bloat. It'd be interesting to see them try, anyway.

(Rottmnt series and movie spoilers! This is speculation regarding when Donnie took a hit during the movie!)
So we see here that Donnie constructs a shield as fast as possible after the Kraang arrives. If we go by the time we as viewers see him construct the shield, he has less than 2 seconds to make it before they are punched:
Tumblr media
This next screenshot shows that Kraang Prime breaks it before it's even completed, judging by how there's little difference between the shield before and during the punch:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If a single punch can break Raph's mystic construct, which was both bigger and thicker than Donnie's, we can assume that Donnie's construct, due to lack of time and experience in making them (Raph first made one in s1 ep7 while Donnie made his first in the s2 finale), was significantly weaker. Raph was cradling his arm after he was hit despite being protected by the rest of his ninpo construct and not having his actual body hit. Donnie had no such protection, time, or experience to back him up. They are sent flying ragdoll-style; Donnie has a humorously dead look on his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Final screenshot, the latest one I could get before they're punched:
Tumblr media
(It looks almost identical to the left one in the previous picture row, I know)
But in that screenshot, we see that the Kraang's fist pretty much came in contact with Donnie's hand, since he was using it to hold the 'construct-bo' steady.
Dear audience, I think Donnie should have gotten a broken hand or arm from that. If not, at *least* some bad internal bleeding. A combination of both, even.
(But I get it, it's a kid show/movie that very unfortunately and infuriatingly got cut short/had time constraints.)
I've seen the fandom agree that Leo got extensive wounds, including broken limbs and varying portryals of shell damage. I think it's reasonable to assume that Donnie got a taste of that as well, only it didn't show right away. Verywellhealth lists tingling in the hands or feet, swelling, shortness of breath, nausea, mental changes (disorientation or confusion), and more as symptoms of internal bleeding. Many of those are things that Donnie could have brushed off due to the urgency of the situation and almost losing multiple members of his family. Many of those are symptoms viewers would not be able to detect either (and again, target audience is kids). That "humorously dead look" mentioned earlier could easily be out of disorientation due to a broken arm/internal bleeding, if not from a concussion due to the reverberating shockwaves.
How is Donnie able to come in clutch?
Adrenaline, stress, anger, and ignoring your injuries, baby!
(With a hint of self-sacrifice and instinctually moving to protect your loved ones, because that is a Hamato family motif.)
And the aftermath is just as angsty as you'd expect: Donnie works himself to the bone to rebuild and protect his family, only to be hindered by an injury to his arm. And he, arguably, would still have it better than his siblings because that's a normal, documented bodily reaction to physical harm. How do you treat the results of mind control and forced body alterations? How do you treat the backlash of opening a hole through time and space? What's an arm injury or two compared to having your entire body pummeled? The Technodrome Takeover isn't helping this poor guy's mind at all.
Would all of this be more reason for his self-esteem and self-worth issues to kick in? I definitely think so.
Final thoughts:
Donnie definitely broke something or got BAD internal bleeding from that move
Can you imagine Leo and Donnie having a moment of quiet horror as they fully realize what happened to each other. That they both took direct hits from the suited Kraang Prime (Raph had his constructs, which is why I discounted him. Donnie's construct didn't hinder the punch at all. Tore through it as though it was a flimsy eggshell.)
Can you imagine the guilt Mikey would have because Donnie took a major hit for him twice and got hurt for it. And then Donnie would still try to take care of them through overworking
Can you imagine Raph regretting not pushing harder on defensive uses of their ninpo. Donnie tends to use it offensively by itself or as an augment to his tech. What if he'd pushed for more defensive training and usage, even if his brothers disliked him for it?
Wow please get physical and mental therapy for everyone
Okay done thanks for reading!
Edit:
This got some traction (thank you!) and I wanted to add something real quick. In a self-reblog and with permission, I added the following in response to these tags:
Tumblr media
"@mad-phlegmatic EXACTLY. And Donnie's reflexes are good enough to avoid Hypno's rings in mid-air (s1 ep13) and to allow him to temporarily face off against the Shredder. His subsequent rag-dolling implies a lack of consciousness or awareness!
On Leo: unless I'm mistaken, member 'Nardo of Team Exclusive Nicknames only cries twice in the movie: when Shredder punches Donnie and Mikey, and when he accepts his fate in the prison dimension :)"
With permission, I added the screenshot and subsequent response to the post itself.
Now I'm done (for reals. I think.)—have a nice day!

Young Royals Fic Recs
Tumblr media
YOUNG ROYALS (AO3)
5 times the students of Hillerska didn’t realize Wille and Simon were together + 1 time they definitely did by Piebingo
"5 times the students of Hillerska didn't realize Wille and Simon were together + 1 time they definitely did"
It’s not punishment (but why does it feel like it is) by starvalisedham (Chapters 5/6)
"three times crown prince Wilhelm did his duty, two times he refused, and one time where duty gave way for privilege. a.k.a. five times Wilhelm struggled to balance his duty as future monarch with his personal life, and the one time he learned to accept his lot in life (it helps that Simon has been there the entire time, helping him along) or: that ridiculously ham-handed fic where Hillerska students are constantly baffled by the dynamic between our two lovebirds"
Two Princes for the Price of One by Safr2n (Erik lives)
"Wilhelm spending time with Simon in Bjärstad leads to Erik discovering who his "crush" is. Turns out it comes in handy when he outs himself in front of the boys of Forest Bridge to defend Simon."
We’re In This Together by CaithyCat (Erik lives)
"Wilhelm and Simon try to cope with the aftermath of the video. Erik does everything he can to help."
Brothers, Brownies, and Brevity by NerdGirl07 (Erik lives)
"Written for the young royals secret santa exchange 2021 for the prompt: Erik lives! I'd love to see how the relationship between Erik and Simon could have been, if Erik had been alive. Erik being a great big brother, supporting Wilhelm and guiding him. Get ready for Erik being the greatest big brother ever, a dessert tower, a demonstration from the Hilerska rowing team, and an act of bravery."
You’re Simply the Best by cloudymilk (Chapters 27/27) (Erik lives)
“Hey Little brother,” Erik greeted. “Excited for your romantic rendezvous?” “Shut up,” Wille groaned, a blush rising to his cheeks. “Just making sure you didn’t chicken out,” Erik laughed. “Since August seems to be under the impression that you are coming home this weekend.” “Fucking August,” Wille muttered. “He’s staying back and I just- didn’t want to deal with him.” “So if you’re not staying there, and you’re not coming here…” Erik began, pausing for Willie to answer and giving another laugh when Wille didn’t fill in the blanks. “Pray tell Wilhelm, where exactly is my little brother spending the weekend? I thought your crush went to Hillerska?” or Erik lives"
I find myself running home to your sweet nothings by cloudymilk
"He’d always known Simon was beautiful, to him, it was a universal constant. But now, getting to see him in person, looking up at Wille so openly - eagerly - he was radiant. Following Wille's speech, he and Simon finally get some time alone together. Post S2 E6"
If hurting wounds would mend (never left that place inside my head) by Lire_Casander (Chapters 36/36)
"when a car accident when coming back to the palace after the last day of the term ends up with wilhelm in a coma, there’s a fracture in time. wilhelm’s subconscious provides him with a whole, happy life where he gets to be with simon and erik never died. meanwhile, in the real world, queen kristina is faced with an impossible decision about family, duty and love. what will happen when both worlds - wilhelm’s dream world and the real world - clash together?"
Get it off your chest, get it off my desk by cloudymilk
"Vincent hasn’t called him to stand since the time with Felice, although there have been multiple nights where Simon has slept over. He supposes that while one can assume, it’s not actually evident that he and Simon had sex during those times (even though they definitely have). There was no mistaking the way they’d left early the night before, however. No mistaking the darkened bruise on Wille’s neck. They’ve already received some smirks from the boys around them, cheekily asking them if they’d had a goodnight."
Ace of Hearts by Whiterabbit11 (Chapters 6/6)
"Eventually, Kristina realises that Wille is a mama's boy. An outsider POV of Wille and Simon through their years at Hillerska."
Yes, Your Highness by Osseus (Part 1)
"Simon is still as sure as he ever was that there is no need to have a Queen, or a King, or anything of the sort, but there is the slight problem—that the crown prince is fucking hot and there is a part of Simon that truly does want to worship the boy, get on his knees and let him use that power that was so unceremoniously given to him on Simon, for Simon. So yeah, maybe he has taken his ‘fuck the monarchy’ stance a bit too seriously. Simon maybe gets off on using Willes title and Wille gets off on Simon using it, that's it, that's the fic."
Kneel by Osseus (Part 2)
"Getting hit with the full force of the prince’s attention is addicting and Simon absolutely loves that he is the only person who gets that Wille, everyone gets the Crown Prince, but he is the only one who gets to have the prince, to be wrapped in that intensity and to be had by him. And this is a problem for Simon—because every time he sees his boyfriend walking around in all of his commanding, silently demanding, princely glory, he can’t get his mind out of the gutter. — Or, Simon is loosing his mind over how hot he finds Wille’s newfound confidence."
Undo me, unravel me by Osseus (Part 3)
"Simon can barely keep his eyes off his boyfriend, standing tall and proud under the attentive gaze of those in the room. Wille commands the space with nothing more than a cough and a gaze and it is fucking addicting watching him do it. Simon already knows that he is going to be a mess by the end of the night. — Or, Simon is obsessed with how good Wille looks when he is all dressed up and the Crown Prince knows it."
Nothing to Fear by HeartStaaahp (Chapters 35/?)
“But it was me.” A collection of different POVs taking place after season 2 of Young Royals. Basically random headcanons from what I think/hope could happen in season 3 and beyond, way into the future. Nothing but happy endings for my royal babies."
Screwed by fandom_commitment_issues (Chapters 26/26)
"Erik lived, but things are still Royally screwed up."
Love Bites by fandom_commitment_issues
"Wilhelm came out on live television a week ago. Spectacularly, and unexpectedly, and – in classic Wille fashion – stupidly. Simon gets a little handsy. The students of Hillerska are curious by nature. Or The Hickey Crack Fic no one asked for."

I'm already so sick of how the fallout of ofmd season 2 has snowballed into people on here going "fandom these days just can't handle Bad Things happening in media-- newsflash, characters have to get hurt and die, grow up!" all condescending like. First of all, in the context of Izzy, most people I've seen discuss his death agree that they would've accepted and enjoyed his death if it had just been handled appropriately, and also. "You just can't handle bad things happening to your fave!" Bruh. We were all partying it up when Izzy lost his fucking leg and was suffering physically and mentally. It can be FUN to see your blorbo suffer!
And that is just one example of a larger trend on this site-- people are really gonna come onto the "we love putting our blorbos in the blender and watching them struggle and suffer" site and say "kids these days can't handle Bad Things happening to their blorbos." Sorry, but that's just nonsense. Fandom loves their fix-its, but they also love shattering their faves. The problem has never been Bad Things happening in general, but HOW those things are framed within the narrative and how that narrative is told. The problem is when something is out of place in its genre, or when it goes against a promise the show has made, or when suffering is used flippantly and uncaringly, or when a character suffers and suffers and then just when they've finally caught a break, they're kicked down again, just for a cheap tug at your heartstrings.
Both within the context of ofmd AND in a wider fandom context, fandoms LOVE when our blorbos are hurt, as long as our blorbos are hurt RIGHT.
... And I think it sure is Something that a fandom can have a rampant issue with fans of a character being harassed and sent death threats and that's just "normal fandom being fandom" but god forbid people feel Emotions. About a Character and a Show. And dare to react by... just Offering Criticism! No, death threats are "fandom culture that comes with the territory," but if you vent post or criticize a writing decision in media, THAT'S being "hysterical" and "overly emotional" and "truly frightening behavior!" I just LOVE (big sarcasm) how back when people were getting doxxed and threatened for liking a guy, the fandom was all *cricket noises,* but NOW suddenly everyone is "terrified and exhausted by fandom's volatility" and "concerned about the fragile mental health of fans" when you simply say "damn that episode sucked and I sure am sad about it."
The OFMD fandom was toxic as fuck for a year and a half and continued to be toxic as fuck for all the airing of S2, so hardly surprising that the aftermath of S2 appears to be... toxic as fuck.
Least surprising thing in the world is that the people who hated Izzy and passively or actively supported driving his fans out of the fandom for "ruining it for everyone else" now think his fans should leave the fandom if they are so upset and stop leveraging "baseless criticism" at the show that is "ruining it for everyone else." They have normal not-at-all-parasocial relationships leading them to directly @ David Jenkins and thank him for a season that somehow managed to be both flawless and have all its flaws blamed on MAX, but those wretched Izzy stans have horrible-evil-parasocial relationships making them harass the crew by *footage not found*
If Mr. Jenkins decides to go scroll the #ofmd s2 tag on tumblr and stumbles across me - a random blog and icon - outlining how I think he fucked his show up, that's pretty clearly on him? This is tumblr. I have no relationship with this man or obligation to tailor every word I say as if he's bound to see it and going to take it personally???
I'm actually a big proponent of "Don't @ the cast and crew about pretty much anything" because the same fandom mentality that makes you think you can randomly ask him about your headcanon like you're chatting is what all these people are melting down about if someone directly goes "hey you killed my favorite character and that makes me mad!" - same fucking people, same fucking parasocial relationship. The standard of "only @ them for good things" is the flimsiest fucking line, as any ao3 writer who has received unsolicited "constructive criticism" or "advice" can tell you.
If we want to snidely get into "what this is really about" well it's the same fucking thing it was before:
People substituting subjective opinion as objective fact with zero self-awareness of doing so. "I liked this so it's good." "I didn't like this so it's bad." "I got bad vibes from that character so he was clearly written to be horrendous and unlikable." "I sympathized with this character so anyone suggesting he has flaws is demonizing him."
Or the deepest circle of fandom hell: "I think [insert identity] rep is so important and this piece of media fits into however I personally define 'good rep', therefore it is flawless and/or morally significant enough to be above criticism."
...which, yeah, leads to temper tantrum levels of fandom infighting, especially since people online express, fairly frequently, "I didn't like it because it was bad" and then present evidence for their point. And also a lot of fandom likes bad TV. Or even just mediocre TV that's entertaining.
I personally was not going to be happy about any person beyond one-offs, blatant villains, and background randoms dying because "they had to" (for their own arc or someone else's) because I fundamentally think if you believe you've written yourself into that corner in a workplace comedy that's built around a main romance arc... you're kinda stupid. Yes, even if it's pirate themed. Enough injuries have been walked off and lampshaded to confirm that part is aesthetic.
The fandom wiki for The Office lists 11 deceased characters. Three of them are fictional characters who die in an action-movie episode. Two are one-offs that get named dropped seasons later as having died offscreen. One of them is an offscreen cat, who appears to have had a more significant death plotwise and emotionally than any of the humans, and another is a woman who literally exists as a picture someone makes up a personality for and then discovers the real woman died. The most significant character on the list is a temp boss that got a four episode story arc about being a useless idiot who died in the hospital after a basketball dunking accident.
That is a show that ran for 9 seasons and over 200 episodes. It's pretty universally regarded as good, and the cringe asshole boss getting genuinely moving emotional beats is a big part of that. I think we can maybe pretty confidently say that reflecting the random realities of death is not essential to every story.
If OFMD wants to be evaluated as a hard-hitting drama or a queer story about the struggle of piracy against the Evil Empire, I will compare it to Black Sails instead of The Office. I just don't think David Jenkins is going to enjoy that comparison.
I'm not going to lower my standards because [insert rep reason the show must absolutely be a wild success here].

"Don't make the same mistake twice."
Because I am fully in camp 'Clone Operative dude is someone devastating under that helmet' do not clown us all on this writers and a spiteful at condescending assholes on Reddit hopeful part of me just really wants it to somehow be (saveable) Tech so we can have a reunited-for-one-last-fight-full-Batch-back-together finale-
The narrative argument for somehow-Tech-returned:
(also see: my (much shorter) narrative contemplation for Cody)
I have a sneaking suspicion that our character development focus is going to shift from Crosshair to Hunter for the back half of the season. Crosshair feels a bit... done? He chose Omega over the easy out on Lau, he's owned up to making mistakes, embraced his place among the squad again ("much worse" than Hunter - lol), he's had his faceoff/heart-to-heart/mutual saving each other rapid progression with Howzer - yeah I imagine there are still things we're going to learn about what he went through/possible ramifications therein, but as far as accepting who he is/his place/etc I think we're winding down on his focus.
Bringing our attention to the end of ep 7 and Rex & Hunter's convo about walking away, and his convo at the end of s2 with Echo about an unwinnable fight and so on. He just wants to protect his squad but the walls are closing in, and Omega won't be content just running and hiding.
And this brings me to the end of season 1 and Crosshair's rather lacking motivational speech about why they should join the Empire finally - they're meant for more than wandering aimlessly as fugitives, etc, and he tells Hunter - "Don't make the same mistake twice."
Now in s3e5, in what felt like the galaxy's most unfinished conversation ever, Hunter tells Crosshair he has "regrets" - but what exactly are they?
Fleeing Kamino in Aftermath, presumably not.
But the number of times in season 1 when he's given the opening to revisit the whole "leaving our own behind" thing and just - doesn't? Everyone else starts in on the "wait maybe the whole thing was the chip?' convo in ep 3 and he shuts it down to focus on the crisis at hand. He later says he's mad at himself for leaving Crosshair behind, and Omega says they'll find a way to get him back and he nods but - I don't think the notion is ever revisited?
Rex emphasizes how the chips are impossible to resist.
They *see* what it does to Wrecker.
Howzer refuses to flee Ryloth with them because he won't abandon his squad - knows they're good men, hopes he can convince them that they're not doing the right thing. We get a brief contemplative look at that, and the look back at Crosshair after they flee but.
After Kamino and after Bracca, sure, maybe the risk of even trying to get to him would seem too high - but we never even get a conversation about it, about finding a way to recover Crosshair and get the chip out now that they know how to do it.
He's also the most skeptical one about the Plan 88 message even after a presumably decent chunk of time has passed, after he knows the chip is gone, after Crosshair saved Omega on Kamino.
So - thesis, please - my narrative argument for wintersoldier'ified-Tech isn't about very mean visual teases callbacks, and it's not about undoing Tech's sacrifice or carving out room for a Tech redemption arc (because we wouldn't need it) (seriously this one baffles me, what?) -
It's about Hunter getting the chance to not make the same (actual) mistake twice, writing off one of his squad as a lost cause and leaving them behind.
(I'm also still really hung up on meeting Phee on the line "Better late than dead" but that's a different conversation)
Thank you for coming to my Tech talk.

(The Bad Batch) TBB x Reader: Frozen
A mission goes awry, and you take a moment to recover in the aftermath.
(Author’s Note: Platonic, or you can read into your interaction with a particular Batcher however you’d like.  It’s just a little snippet I started a while back!  Set sometime in S2.
Word Count: 812)
It started with warmth that began to spread, pulling you out of the void.  Your skin tingled as it gradually gained feeling again, and you gratefully drew breath with a gasp.  The warmth grew into a heat that screamed at your limbs to move, though they felt heavy as lead.
The heat faded, leaving you to experience chills that racked your body.  You had been so still, and now suddenly you couldn’t stop moving, full of tremors and shudders as you fell to the ground.
Your palms recognized the sensation of metal grating against them.
“Hey, are you okay?” A low voice asked beside your ear, causing you to jump.  “It’s alright, it’s just me.”
“Hunter,” you murmured, head spinning.  You reached out to grasp his shoulder, just something to ground yourself.  His hand rested over yours, and the other helped you to take a seat in one of the chairs.
   “It’s okay.  You’re safe.”
“W-what happened?” you asked.  You tried blinking and squinting, but your eyes simply would not adjust to the darkness.  “Why is it so dark?  Where are we?”
Your questions were met with a brief silence, and your fear spiked.  “Hunter?”
It was Tech’s breezy voice that jumped in to respond, though he didn’t quite sound as chipper as he explained.  “You are aboard the Marauder.  It seems you are experiencing symptoms of carbon freezing, including temporary blindness.”
You reached a shaky hand up experimentally, still half-expecting to see it in front of you.  “Blindness?”
“Yes, but only temporary,” he said assuredly.  “Your sight should come back shortly.”
   “Okay…”
“How are you feeling?”  That particular rumbly voice nearby belonged to none other than Wrecker.  Even though you wouldn’t be able to see him, your head turned in his direction automatically.
“A little sick,” you admitted with a humorless laugh.  “But not bad considering I was frozen in carbonite… Wait, how did this happen anyway?”
“You mean, you don’t remember?”  You felt a blanket rest on your lap, and then Omega’s smaller hand on your shoulder in concern.
“Minor memory loss,” Tech noted.  You could picture him raising his pointer finger matter-of-factly.  “It’s to be expected.”
“We were on that mission,” Hunter explained, “for Cid.  Things got a little out of hand.”
“You were captured by pirates,” Omega added.
Echo chimed in then.  “Next thing we know, you were frozen and being shipped off to who-knows-where.  Fortunately, we had eyes on you and were able to intercept.”
“It was quite the game of keep-away those pirates were playing,” Hunter said.
“Yeah!” Wrecker exclaimed with a booming laugh.  “But we won!”
You released a small sigh of relief, shoulders slumping.  The shudders had finally dissipated, but then you were left just feeling exhausted.  “Well, I’m glad you guys won.  Sorry I got captured in the first place.”
“Actually…” Omega’s tone was sheepish.  You could almost hear her facial expression scrunching.  “It was my fault.”
   “What?”
“More or less,” Tech jumped in again.  “The pirates were about to overtake Omega, and you stepped in.”
Your memories slowly began to come back.  It was still rather fuzzy, but you did in fact remember the incident.  You remembered pushing Omega out of the way before the pirates corralled her into the carbon freezing chamber…
“I’m sorry.”  Her tone was quiet, defeated.
“It’s okay,” you replied warmly.  “It’s not your fault.  I’m just glad you’re okay.”
The next thing you knew, a light flashed before your eyes, making you blink.
“Ah, it appears you are regaining your sight.”
Tech was right.  You were beginning to see the shapes of your squad.  He inspected your eyes with the flashlight for a few more moments before clicking it off.
“I am starting to feel a little better.”
“Glad to hear it!” Wrecker said, clapping a hand on your shoulder.  You chuckled, rubbing your eyes.  Your vision was growing clearer by the second.  “Uh, should she rest or something?”
“Not a bad idea.  I was just about to suggest that.”  Tech nodded his head in the direction of the front of the ship, signaling for everyone to give you some space.  Hunter gave you a look that said a thousand things.  He was relieved you were alright, proud of you for rescuing Omega, and there for you if you needed anything else.  Wrecker’s shot you a grin on his way out.  Omega offered a small smile, full of sympathy, and also still feeling a little guilty for what happened despite your reassurance.
You found yourself searching for another face that wasn’t there.  You’d almost forgotten that Echo was away.  Pulling the blanket that Omega left for you around your form, you got more comfortable in the seat.  Your eyelids found it more and more difficult to stay open, and the weight of exhaustion beckoned you to sleep.
So, with your family in the vicinity, you let it.

Yuuta Okkotsu
I wrote this in 10 mins because I just finished s2 and my baby is backk!!! Also, a little something for welcoming the New Year's with him
Yuuta was not a great cook and it showed, the cake so charred it was almost black, utensils tumbling down much to his horror as he tries to repair the monstrosity that he’d concocted amidst his increasingly flustered hand gestures, trying to valiantly assure you that everything was fine. You couldn’t believe his mouth could make a sound like that until you’d heard it yourself. You were in the common area, head down on panda’s soft and fluffy tummy, almost dead to the world because you’d been sneaking out the bed after Okkotsu fell asleep, a herculean task trying to extract yourself from him without waking him up because he holds on to you like you are his lifeline amidst this torrent, and he’d drown without you. You’d been knitting him a scarf, a scarf that looks like the aftermath of a war but you're trying! Then, it was five minutes to twelve and you go to him, all panicky and sad because he’d felt you leaving every night and he’s terrified but you ruffle his hair and hold his hand, dragging him back to your room, making him sit on the bed, asking him to close his eyes, because I’ve got a surprise for you silly! And the second you wrap the scarf around his neck, a little tattered sure, but so full of love and warmth, wishing him a Happy New year’s baby! His smiles, a little wobbly and his fingers shake as he feels the scarf, finally making the connection between your hands that were a little rough for wear and his scarf. Maybe you’d messed up because you’re immediately wiping away a few stray tears and before you panic, he hugs you, so fucking tight you can hear his heart thumping away in his chest. I was so scared princess! Thank you, Thank you baby. Happy new year’s and I am so sorry I ruined your cake princess. It was sweet nothings murmured into his skin because how could I leave you baby! and his ardor tracing your skin as Maki bangs on your door, Let me see my best friend Okkotsu! Shake Shake!
**Panda eats the cake 😉** (idk if it's advised for panda to eat it so don't come @ me. This is fiction and in my world, Panda deserves all the cake!)

I saw a couple of reviews saying there wasn’t enough football being shown in season 3, this is why Ted Lasso is ‘losing its touch’, we’re not seeing enough of the significant moments on the pitch etc etc; so because I’m a pedantic little fucker I decided to science the shit out of this. Bare in mind, ‘no football featured’ means no matches, so with that in mind:
Season 1
Pilot – No football featured
Biscuits – Richmond’s bad loss against Crystal Palace, not shown
Trent Crimm: The Independent – no football featured
For the Children – no football featured
Tan Lines – Richmond’s win against Unknown, match shown
Two Aces – No football featured
Make Rebecca Great Again – Richmond’s significant win against Everton, match not shown
The Diamond Dogs – No football featured
All Apologies – No football featured
The Hope That Kills You – Richmond lose against Man City, match shown
Season 2
Goodbye Earl – Richmond draws against Nottingham, match shown (sorry Dani…)
Lavender – No football featured
Do the Right-est Thing – Richmond lose against Coventry after Sam’s protest, match not shown
Carol of the Bells – No football featured
Rainbow – Richmond undergo a bad streak and then play Sheffield Wednesday, match not shown (but the run-up is)
The Signal – Richmond win against Tottenham, match shown (but not the crucial victory)
Headspace – No football featured
Man City – Richmond lose against Man City, match shown
Beard After Hours – No football featured
No Weddings and a Funeral – No football featured
Midnight Train to Royston – Sam scores a hat-trick, not shown
Inverting the Pyramid of Success – Richmond win against Brentford, match shown
Season 3
Smells Like Mean Spirit – No football featured
(I Don’t Want to Go to) Chelsea – Richmond ties with Chelsea, match shown
4-5-1 – Zava leads Richmond to victory, series of matches shown
Big Week – Richmond lose to West Ham, match shown
Signs – Richmond experience a bad run of losses, aftermath of matches shown
Sunflowers – Richmond lose to Ajax, aftermath of match shown
The Strings That Bind Us – Richmond lose to Arsenal, match shown
We’ll Never Have Paris – Richmond enjoy a winning streak, only the reactions shown
La Locker Room Aux Folles – Richmond win against Brighton, match shown (but not Colin’s turnaround)
I’d say we’re actually seeing a lot more football this season than we have done before. The pattern of not having all the significant moments on the pitch portrayed is something Ted Lasso has been doing since season 1, after all. Remember the win at Everton? Nate’s magnificent ‘Park The Bus’ over Tottenham? Sam’s hat-trick? Isaac getting his mojo back on the field? Nope, neither do I, because we didn’t see them. In a way they’re not nearly as important as the character development off the field that surrounds it, and the show’s always been very honest about that.
After all, the cast do a great job, but with the exception of Cristo Fernandez, they’re not footballers - they were never going to be expected to do all the work on the pitch. Now there might be something of an argument for saying ‘but we’re less emotionally invested in where the team are placing in the league’ this season - but if I’m honest, I remember approaching both the s1 and s2 finales thinking ‘oh that’s where they are in the league?! god, I forgot we were supposed to be keeping track of that’. Football has always been a supporting role in this show, not the star.
Anyway, EXCUSE ME SIR THIS IS THE FOOTBALL ADJACENT SHOW NOT SOCCER SATURDAY THANK YOU

Roy/Jamie(/Keeley) recs, part 3/3
part 1: tropefic part 2: kink fic
part 3: canon-based fic
Waterfalls (R/J/K, 43k) by @andfrecklesandyoursmile Roy and Jamie start texting after Roy's last game. best slow-burn longfic in the pairing, imo (probably got less attention than it deserves because it's mistagged "pre-relationship"—don't worry it's absolutely not, they do get together!)
How To Build A Triangle (R/J/K, 10k) by @itwoodbeprefect this has so many feet-kickingly delightful little details, my favorite of which is Roy googling polyamory in his office with PornHub pulled up in another tab in case someone comes in and he needs to switch to something less embarrassing
the pull of you (R/J, 8k) by @soofyahn if you watched the Uncle's Day scene and came straight to AO3 to find out what happened next, this is the fic you were looking for
if you could redirect my day (R/J/K, 12k) by @theladyragnell my favorite of the broad field of post-S2 "Roy invites Jamie to Marbella" fics
A Change is as Good as a Rest (R/J/K, 7k) by @siriaeve my favorite of the even broader field of post-S2 "Roy doesn't invite Jamie to Marbella but he shows up anyway" fics (one of my favorite lines about Roy and Jamie ever: he admires you so much he can't even tell where that ends and the wanting begins)
he knows so much about these things (R/J, 1k) by @trinityofone my favorite Amsterdam fic, just Roy and Jamie lying in the grass together lookin at the stars
mad comets, fixed (R/J/K, 9k) by @leenik-geelo heroically pounded out and posted during the tragically short-lived Golden Age of OT3 i.e. the week between 3x11 and the finale. some really lovely prose in this one, very atmospheric
so afraid that time will take it all from me (R/J, 10k) by @teddy-after-all in-depth character study of Roy as a closeted gay man dealing with internalized homophobia—I only like this kind of thing when it's executed really well, which this is
With Only Wings (R/J + R/K, 12k) by @icehot13 the aftermath of the hug at Wembley, exploring Jamie's issues with being seen as soft
it's on the table (R/J/K, 10k) by @armadillo1976 in which the three of them visit Oxford, fall off a punt, and end up in a hotel room

Actually, i think it's closer to a year or more for how long Bai He was possessed. Which is honestly terrifying because why the hell did nobody notice or set up any missing child posters!?
Also, LBD probably didn't know Wukong was, well, a Spiritual Stone Monkey. So she ended up with the most interesting bit of fortune by picking a child to possess, not only because Bai He was the easy target, but because she had inadvertently managed to give herself and inate advantage against Sun Wukong by using the body of a child. As she had said Wukong,
"You're plan is to... fist fight a child!?"
No... not that's not what Wukong's plan was. But it was the only plan he had left. And with LBD piloting a child's body and openly admitting she's a child, she gave herself the advantage with that line alone. Because Wukong may have been going strong it with everything he had, not holding back, but when it came down to it, he hesitated. And it's entirely because his instincts were screaming at him not to do it.
I have no doubt Wukong was pretty messed up mentally and emotionally after being freed from the LBD, notvjyst from the actions he performed while possessed (Grievously wounding his mate, attacking his little big brother Nez Ha and nephew Red Son, kidnapping Mei snd imprisoning her in ice, almost killing MK), but also for his actions right before being possessed. I think, before Macaque has dragged Bai He into the nest, Wukong may have actively avoiding the child he had tried to kill. But then his silly mate bad to go and force the two into the same spot.
Oh Bai He has been under LBD's control since before New Years, and I feel like S2 & 3 is extended over a few weeks to account for Wukong's "vacation".
One subtle detail I noticed at the end of S1 is that the Little Girl's hair is shorter before she's possessed, suggesting that LBD has been possessing her long enough for it to grow out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And since Wukong describes "still feeling her [LBD] under my skin", I imagine being possesed felt like Bai He's very skeleton was being puppeted by an icy hand.
For months.
And there was no sign of missing persons posters anywhere around town post-S1 finale. Even though Metropolis is a big city on par with Shanghai or similar, and demon/monster attacks have become commonplace; there would still have been something mentioned about a child going missing in the area. Unless no one was looking out for her...
Bai He would Not Be Fine in the aftermath of S3. She was possessed by a demon for nearly a year - that has to leave lasting effects on the body and soul. I'm shocked that she didn't return in S4 as a full character, even just to provide an outsiders view of all the nonsense going on. She isn't anyone's reincarnation or anyone important, but she will help her new friends by anymeans nessesary!
Wukong def feels awkward being around the little girl seeing how his nemesis was wearing her face for the last while. Bai He on the otherhand is screaming internally cus "Doesn't this guy kill demons for a living!? I'm a demon now!"
She oddly bonds quicker with Macaque, as they both see each other as victims/tools of LBD at the end of the day. Macaque thinks it's oddly cute annoying to have the pipsqueak at his heels, but he at least owes her someone who can related to the pain she's feeling.
