Yessss !! 💯 I see so much hate for season 6 but it has such a special place in my heart. Its such an under appreciated season!
omg yes thank you!!! i don't get it, because to me it's one of the most important seasons destiel-wise. also im biased because the man who would be king is my favorite ep hehe
but tbh every time i start watching spn again i end up there because i like to suffer and watching all of the deancas interactions until it's revealed that cas has been lying to him the entire time is premium angst <3 <3
so yes i include it in the "good" spn era, to me things really start to go wrong from s8 on!!! because i also love s7 even tho they did cas so dirty

i thank ben edlund every day for the time in the man who would be king when cas squared right on up with the fourth wall said, ‘freedom is a length of rope, and god wants you to hang yourself with it.’ like. oh. okay. like yes sure that line comes from the cw’s very own squeaky shoe clown show supernatural but it is the absolute wildest line of an homeric epic love (and loss, and love, and lies, and love, and lies) story that blessed the silver screen and altered a minimum of ten thousand brain chemistries to me. it’s a chilling and relatable lamentation- discovering the impossible, horrifying nature of slowly becoming something that one is Not. realizing you left your original purpose behind long ago. the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel was snuffed out when you first laid a hand on him in in hell. you didn’t know that at the time, but that was the beginning of it all, wasn’t it? you can’t turn back now. didn’t dean say once that the road to hell was paved with good intentions? you’ve committed to this course because someone had to choose. and it couldn’t be dean this time. (dean, laughing behind a seedy brothel, color high on his cheeks. dean, stabbing him in a barn with a demon killing blade in his hand and a a twisted, defensive snarl on his face. dean, in the beautiful room, under cas’s hands, meeting his eyes and nodding. dean, broken in a hospital bed. dean, his face in shadow as the impala rumbled languidly across great wild swathes of the country that cas could travel in an instant under the cover of stars, and a love song playing soft on the radio. dean, on his knees in still cemetery, a strange, shy sort of awe on his face. cas, are you god? dean. dean. deandeandean I WILL BE A GOOD GOD, DEAN) dean got out. dean would be safe. because cas would choose now. cas would choose for him. he’d chosen once before after all- he chose dean. so cas chose and kept choosing and learned that all that choosing could only ever lead to one end- a self-knotted noose, woven from brittle cords of shame, a ring of holy fire, and red-rimmed green, green eyes

it doesn’t matter. those eyes (sad, now. something stuttered in castiel’s chest) turn away. dean runs because he doesn’t understand. dean is afraid of him because he doesn’t understand. castiel will make him understand. he’s putting this noose around his own neck for the very same reason dean does what he does.

it would be alright, castiel thinks (in the echoing silences in which he waits/prays/dreads that god may answer) to die for love. he could die for love.

Ignite your bones - chapter 9
Castiel/Dean Winchester, multi-chapter, WIP, rated E, MCD
“Jack told me about the talk the two of you had,” Cas says.
And of course Dean recognizes the way Cas is staring at him, what it means. Wide and full of wonder, a smile hiding just behind his lips. Like just before the last time he died. Dean clenches his hand into a fist, biting back the urge to say something cruel just to kill the look on Cas’ face.
“Yeah,” Dean croaks. He clears his throat, reminding himself that nothing he can do will keep Cas from looking at him that way. Part of Dean thinks he should keep trying anyways. But he’s so tired. “I guess it’s been a long-time coming.”
“I wanted to thank you,” Cas says, painfully sincere.
Dean winces. “Don’t thank me, man.”
“Okay. Then I’m proud of you.” Cas is truly smiling now.
Dean can’t stand to look at him.
“Christ. Cas…” He turns away, scrubbing his hand down his face.
Why do you keep giving me chances? he wants to ask. But Cas will only answer, You know why.
I’m just going to keep hurting you, he wants to say. But he remembers the promise he made to Jack, and can’t stand the thought of breaking it so soon.
He remembers how it felt when Cas, with a smile on his face, didn’t deny thinking Dean hates him.
“I don’t wanna hurt you anymore,” Dean says, and it feels like a confession.
