james. i can’t believe i actually have thoughts on this. alright, all of this information i have acquired since november 5th. i’m in pain

18. Rank the writers (as many as you remember and know)

1. Robbie Thompson- god. has never done anything wrong

2. Bedlund- maniac. in love with him

3. Yockey- great shit and I can't remember him doing anything bad

4. Perez- I couldn't name his eps off the top of my head but i know he's given us stuff

5. Bobo- he gave us the confession, he gave us [the trap? maybe?], he gave us Steve and Dean pining. But racism, man.

6. Kripke- classic shit, understood the aesthetic and the grunge and shittiness of the midwest way more than anybody else, i feel like most writers on that set have never worried about money and it shows

7. buckleming- wow are they shitty. wow have they never watched the show. problems galore. what the fuck. they are spared bc 15x19's mediocrity was covered up by 15x20's horrificness. which brings us to...

8. dabb/singer- last and least. Fuck Robert Singer first of all for everything he's ever done for the show. his treatment of his coworkers, his treatment of the characters, his derision for the fans. can't believe i have a photo op with the man. dabb, you did this to me. you're the reason it's 2021 and i am here. fuck you and fuck you for making dean go back and forth between loving jack and being a horrible john-like parent with him apparently having no self-awareness of it (seriously when he was a little snappy at ben he freaked out but pull a gun on your kid and???) no. he doesn't get it. he's done some good things but i can't forgive him for the bad.

I did go back to check what I thought of Ben Edlund’s episodes once I was informed of the esteem he was held in and the unifying factor of my notes was

“this is how you do plot episode, more of this”

...this guy’s a good writer I’m excited

Ruby in front of the car is a NEAT visual

oho and Sam freezes while Ruby and Dean face off that was COOL

look I know she’s manipulating them probably, but OW

wrap-up:

1. Ok I don’t know if It’s because I knew it was a bedlund episode going in or not, but it seemed standard fare till the end, when it became just...heartbreakingly compelling. I Couldn’t look away, everything hurt, what the fuck. Like Dean and Ruby mirroring each other is just...Ouch, and Dean having to turn Sam into what he tried desperately NOT to turn him into is...O U C H

2. the hex bag thing is Great for paranoia, but most of that lore kinda got overshadowed by plot so not much to say there

3. excellent horror writing when it was focusing on it though, rly got the gag reflex going.
