Step into Dryness: The Ultimate Guide to Waterproofing Shoes
Tumblr media
Wet feet can put a damper on any outdoor adventure, whether you’re hiking, camping, or simply navigating a rainy day. But with the right waterproofing techniques and products, you can keep your feet dry and comfortable no matter what the weather has in store. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about waterproofing shoes and provide helpful tips to ensure you never have to suffer from soggy feet again.
The Importance of Waterproof Shoes
Waterproof shoes play a crucial role in keeping your feet dry, protected, and comfortable during outdoor activities. Not only do they prevent the unpleasant sensation of wet feet, but they can also help to prevent blisters, cold feet, and other related issues. Moreover, waterproof shoes can extend the life of your footwear by protecting them from the damaging effects of water and moisture.
Types of Waterproofing for Shoes
There are several methods available for waterproofing shoes, each with its own unique benefits and drawbacks. In this section, we’ll explore the most common types of waterproofing and help you determine which method is best for your needs.
Tumblr media
Wax and Waterproofing Sprays
Wax and waterproofing sprays are simple and convenient options for waterproofing shoes. They are easily accessible at most outdoor gear stores and can be quickly applied to the surface of your shoes. Simply spray or rub the waterproofing product onto the shoes, allow it to dry, and enjoy the protection it provides. However, it’s important to note that some sprays and waxes may darken the color of your shoes and affect the breathability of the material. With GoGoNano waterproofing sprays you can be sure that material color or breathability won’t change.
Sealed and Waterproof Shoes
For those who are in the market for new shoes, purchasing a pair that is already sealed and waterproof is another option. Shoes designed for outdoor activities often feature waterproof materials, such as Gore-Tex, that provide excellent protection from water. This is a great choice for those who want the peace of mind that comes with knowing their feet will be dry and comfortable, without having to worry about reapplying a waterproofing product. Be sure that even the Gore-Tex’s waterproofing properties will fade away over time. Applying a waterproofing solution will enhance the material and water repellent properties will be active again.
Waterproof Socks
Another option for waterproofing shoes is waterproof socks. These are designed to be worn inside your shoes and provide a barrier between your feet and the water. They come in a variety of styles and sizes and are made from waterproof materials like Gore-Tex. This is a good choice for those who want to keep their current shoes and add an extra layer of protection. However, it’s important to make sure the socks fit well and don’t bunch or slide around inside the shoes, as this can cause discomfort.

DIY Waterproofing at Home
If you prefer not to buy a new pair of shoes or waterproofing socks, you can easily waterproof your current shoes at home with a few simple steps.
Clean and Dry the Shoes
The first step in waterproofing your shoes is to thoroughly clean and dry them. Remove any dirt, debris, or grime from the surface of the shoes and make sure they are completely dry before applying the waterproofing product.
Apply Waterproofing Spray or Wax
Next, apply a waterproofing spray or wax to the surface of the shoes. It’s important to follow the instructions on the product and apply it evenly, covering all areas of the shoes. Make sure to apply enough product to create a strong barrier against water. With GoGoNano waterproofing solutions you do not have to worry about material loosing its breathability or discoloring.
Allow the Shoes to Dry Completely
Once you’ve applied the waterproofing product, allow the shoes to dry completely. Our solutions will take 1 hour to dry out but maximum properties will be active after drying overnight. Depending on the product used, the drying time may be different. It’s important to let the shoes dry completely to ensure the waterproofing effect is strong and long-lasting.
Repeat as Needed
Depending on the frequency of use and exposure to water, you may need to reapply the waterproofing product every few months or so. It’s a good idea to regularly check the shoes for any signs of wear and reapply the product as needed to keep them in good condition.
FAQ
To wrap up, we’ve included answers to some frequently asked questions about waterproofing shoes.
Can I waterproof any type of shoes?
Yes, with GoGoNano you can waterproof any type of shoes, as long as they are made from a material that can be treated with a waterproofing product. This includes shoes made from materials like leather, fabric, and suede.
Is waterproofing a one-time process?
No, waterproofing is not a one-time process. The effectiveness of the waterproofing will depend on the frequency of use and exposure to water, and you may need to reapply the product every few months to keep the shoes in good condition.
Can waterproofing affect the breathability of my shoes?
Yes, depending on the type of waterproofing product you use, it can affect the breathability of your shoes. By choosing GoGoNano waterproofing products you can be sure that material color or breathability will not change in any way. Our products are all tested to fit with all the materials or shoe types.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, waterproofing shoes is a simple and effective way to keep your feet dry and comfortable no matter what the weather has in store. With the right waterproofing techniques and products, you can enjoy all your outdoor activities with confidence, knowing that your feet are protected from the elements. Ruled by Her Divine Majesty Heather since its creation, the planet of Kaleis and the Phantom Empire are in the peak of their power, beacons to their allies and the creatures of the light. Alongside her Soul Guardian, Quinn, Heather is untouchable, unkillable, and she has been for billions of years. One fateful mission puts a key in her hands though; and it is the key to her mind, her soul, and her freedom. And after one fateful mission, fables of the night and the demons who guard it come alive. Divinity alone won't be enough to save Heather as the Evernight Kingdom sends its beasts after her--creatures able to take any form, any face. In the dark, Heather must be willing to test the limits of her immortality to ensure the unending night and its red sun don't eclipse her universe, but the safety of the universe may cost everything she has... And everything she's hoped for.
𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐬
HEATHER: The Queen Divine of the Phantom Empire and Queen of Kaleis. The Creator. Chronic sufferer of prophecies and fates. Universe's first ever bleeding heart, murderous for what matters most to her. A songbird in a bloody, gold cage.
QUINN: The God of Light, the First Sun, the Commander of Kaleis and the Phantom Suns. Heather's most trusted advisor and protector, and arguably the most horrifying thing in the universe. No good with affection or apologies. Would do anything for Heather.
VAIRALYN: The Dark Queen of the Phantom Empire and Queen of Mu, has died and resurrected so much she stopped counting, all beside her wife, and once beside her brother; Kraigyn. Haunted by memories she cannot recall. Haunted by a dark she doesn't know.

BAHRO: The eldest brother of the infamous Vestre beast siblings. Has done and will do anything to protect his little sister and sibling. Betrayed Sidereus for the sake of its survival, and is ready to betray the divine to protect what he loves.
𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆
KALEIS: Home of the Original Six gods and her Divine Majesty Heather. Has held and led the Phantom Empire for billions of years after the surrender of Mu. A leader in military, trade, agriculture, textiles, and diplomacy. A diverse, massive planet, though it possesses a shared language and religion thanks to its divine leaders.
PYNACINIUM: Kaleis's capital to all its nations and governances. Home of the Original Six and Heather, as well as the Palace of Pynacnium.
SIDEREUS: The home planet of the demon race of shifters, or veles. Long ago colonized by the Evernight brothers, much of its distinctive culture and language was wiped out among the masses, though its old-faith priests still try to preach of the divine and their Path to the Niedostepny. Sidereus's survival is left in the hands of the Vestre family, one of the first shifter families, who have slaughtered thousands if not millions to ensure the Evernight brothers don't do worse to their home.
NOTE: Hello! I'm so excited to be posting about this novel! It is, in my opinion, my magnum opus, granted every new book I write feels that way. After a very grating start to this book, it is already at 120K words, so she's gonna be a big one, but I'm excited to share more about Altars In the Sky, particularly my baby girl anti-hero, Bahro Vestre.

The King and the Swallow
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Unexpected reunion with his childhood friend and the sworn protector of the royal family takes a dramatic turn when Nikolai inquires about her uncharacteristic, cold demeanour. Confessions are shared - the good ones and the bad ones alike.
WORDCOUNT: ~ 3.7k
>>Grishaverse-inspired playlist<<
"[...] Swallows are believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the household. They are often associated with protecting the family as well. Similarly, the ROYAL SWALLOWS are sworn protectors of the reigning dynasty. As tradition entails, this faction is kept within one lineage, although the actual name is not included in any official documentation, becoming the object of wild speculations. According to the acquired knowledge about Royal Swallows, the next of kin is titled a Swallow only after answering The Call - an ancient, largely unknown, ritual of swearing-in believed to be conducted during the spring equinox when most grains are sowed as a symbol of new beginnings as well as the servitude intrinsic to the role. If there is more than one child in a generation, the oldest of them is assumed the leader and the regalia in the form of a gold pin with a swallow bird are passed on to them. In some regions of Ravka, touching the pin is believed to bring seven generations of good luck to the household. [...]" - excerpt from Factions and groupings in: About courts and gutters. The complete encyclopedia of the known world by Sankt Nikita
The weather leaves a lot to wish for. Grey clouds are covering the once-blue sky, cold wind tugs at clothing and leaves the skin covered in goosebumps even under a substantial amount of layers. The dense air smells of petrichor, although a thunderstorm is yet to come. Perhaps it’s the oncoming rain or the impending battles that make it difficult to breathe. Early spring is about as charming as muddy, rainy autumn. The sounds of soldiers bussing around the base are partially drowned out by rustling leaves, allowing the more naive to lie to themselves that there is, in fact, no war; it’s the wind blowing on their skin and not the grim reaper breathing down their necks.
Nikolai and Dominik grew tired if not frustrated with the restless turmoil inside the fort. Despite both of them being seasoned soldiers, they’re still learning how to lead the war. Constant chattering, yelling, echoing footsteps and loud clattering of army inventory smoked them out of the squalid building. Outside those grey walls, the world appears deceptively calm. If they stand with their backs facing the fort, maybe they can fool themselves into pretending their situation is a lot better than it really is - just for a minute or two, to not go completely mad.
But their relative peace is cut short when a bright screech pierces the cold wind. The blood-chilling sound belongs to a large bird of prey soaring low above their heads.
Nikolai knits his eyebrows. He begins his question but the implications of its answer make him fall silent halfway through: “Is that…?”
“Falcon,” Dominik finishes for him.
Surprisingly, the predator flies straight through an open window into one of the rooms in the fort. A question remains: with the falcon on its perch, where is the falconer? Fortunately, the answer arrives rather quickly:
“It’s the Swallow!” one of the soldiers yells.
Sure enough, a menacing silhouette appears on the horizon: a dark, stocky horse galloping through acres of fields with a cloaked rider on its back. Their robes in colours black, gold and ginger dance on the wind, pulled and tugged by the momentum. Surrounded by floating textiles, the rider appears more like a phantom rather than a person.
The approaching hoofbeat carries subliminal whispers of unsaid words, the echo of days long past and people who haunt others despite still being alive. The horse is slowing down its haste when the impatient rider jumps off the mount’s back. One of the soldiers manages to catch the whipping reins and pull the frenzied horse back towards the stables.
Auburn hair glistens in the dispersed sunlight as she takes the hood off her head. A few stray strands float in the wind. She hasn’t changed much - the freckles pepper her face just as he remembered and the scar splitting her lower lip still makes her look more menacing than she really is. The only difference, as far as he can tell, is that she’s a lot more beautiful than the woman he painted in his imagination during lonely nights. Her green eyes are a shade darker than the emerald he wears on his finger but to his heartache, they are equally cold as the gem.
The first person that made young Nikolai Lantsov realize that maybe girls aren’t, after all, ‘eww’.
“Lann!” his lips call out to her before his mind realizes.
But she only bows curtly. “Another time, your grace.”
The woman marches past him and into the fort. Soldiers flock to her, shoving documents into her hands and reporting on the progress of whatever duties she has given them. Watching her back, Nikolai realizes it’s the very first time in his life he’s seeing the infamous, illusive Harbinger - a claymore sword hidden in a scabbard hanging from her lower back. For a moment he wonders whether it really has decapitated as many terrorists and conspirators as people say. But this pondering is unimportant for now as Nikolai is still coming to terms with the fact that the one person he’s been dreaming of seeing again just brushed him off.
“Did she just ‘another time’ me?” he asks Dominik. “The king?”
His friend only gives him a playful grin. “Maybe she’s still upset about all the thistle you used to put in her hair.”
“She forced my hand!” he answers with a whine hiding in his voice. “It was the only way she’d talk to me instead of Cillian. Where is he anyway?”
Dominik clenches his jaw. Nervous, he scratches his neck before answering. “To be honest, I don’t think he’s with us anymore.”
Nikolai leans in, his voice low as disbelief drips from his words. “Cillian has died?”
“Hard to say what happened but she does wear the pin. Lann showed up two days ago, shortly before you arrived, and just said he’s ‘gone’. Actually, I was going to ask you about that.”
“I haven’t seen either of them since their father was killed. I had no idea she was here.”
“Well, that only complicates things.” Dominik takes off his cap, brushes his fingers through his hair and puts the hat back on. “I know Swallows don’t die in linen bed sheets but still, something horrible must have happened. It’s like something broke inside her. Maybe she’ll talk to you.”
Dominik gives Nikolai an awkward smile before patting his shoulder and leaving the king alone in the courtyard of the fort. The cold wind tugs at his clothes and Nikolai shivers. When did spring get so cold?
Lann is interrupting Dominik and Nikolai’s conversation for the second time today. They’re crowded over maps scattered on the table when she pushes the door open. They creek before the handle hits the wall with a thud and the wooden wing bounces back to close. Her rhythmic, heavy steps resound in the small room, the acoustic turning them into booming hoofbeat.
Aside from the impolite entrance, she announces her arrival only by loudly clicking her heels together. There’s no courtesy towards either of them, just a flood of laconic information:
“Kirigan’s following is growing with each day. His Grisha are fanatics, they’ll do anything he tells them to. From what I’ve gathered, they’re going to hit the First Encampment next but I’m guessing it’s something personal rather than political. Strategically, it’s a useless move. I have also received news from the northern front. They’re holding back Fjerdans but the snow shouldn’t thaw until later next month, leaving them in the cold for approximately another six weeks.”
Her cold, matter-of-fact tone makes Nikolai shiver again. Yes, people tend to become more serious as they grow up and take over important responsibilities but they never turn soulless. It’s as though the person in front of him is but a corpse brought back to life by inexplicably odious magic - rid of humanity, personality and vigour. Still, dismissing the dull ache growing inside his chest, Nikolai does his best to focus on the problem at hand. “Is there anything we can send them?” he asks in the calmest way he can muster.
“I’ve already ordered for proper preparations to be made, your grace.” She gently bows her head while speaking the title. “The shipment will leave tonight.”
Nikolai’s stomach churns. She never called him that. In fact, he can clearly remember Lann promising him that she will never address him properly. An image flashes before his eyes - June, a field behind a barn, a frown that misplaces freckles, thistle in hair, high voice speaking with a lisp: ‘You’re just Kolya’.
“If there are no further questions, I ought to leave to tend to my duties.” Lann’s voice is low and firm, completely different from the childish sound in Nikolai’s memories. Somehow, he’d rather listen to the girl with the lisp again.
The woman nods curtly before leaving the room, loudly shutting the door behind herself. Rushed footsteps resound through the hall, steadily disappearing into the ambient noise befitting a military base. Soon, her presence belongs to memories if not ghosts, considering the imposing way in which she continues to haunt Nikolai.
“I told you, Nikolai.” Dominik must have noticed his pained expression. “Something happened to Cillian and it broke her. She’s a completely different person now.”
The king looks down at the maps but then he shakes his head slightly - there’s simply no way he will just return to planning attacks and defences while Lann is but a shell of the woman he used to know; a phantom he knows by name but not the heart. And Cillian… losing one of the Swallows is a huge blow to Ravka’s assets. More than once in the history of this country did the presence of Royal Swallows make the difference between status quo and ruin. If one of them is ‘gone’, whatever that can mean, and the other has forsaken their humanity, they might as well give up already and let Kirigan take all that he’s going to intercept anyway.
Nikolai clenches his fist and sighs. If not for his own sake, he needs to do this for Ravka - at least that’s what he keeps telling himself. Truthfully, he’s more concerned with Lann’s well-being than his curiosity or worry. “Excuse me,” he murmurs half-comprehensively to Dominik before running out of the room in search of the Swallow.
Lann lets out an exasperated sigh as she hears someone knocking on the door to her bedroom. She rubs her face, pondering whether she should just pretend to be elsewhere. Wondering who might just interrupt her short-lived and rare moment of peace, Nikolai’s face flashes before her eyes. A blade of guilt pierces her chest but she doesn’t seem surprised. Truly, the moment of truth has to come at some point and, despite her own fears, the sooner the better.
“Come in,” she calls out, silently praying that it’s not the king of Ravka that comes with a visit.
The thing about prayers is that they’re not immune to various interpretations by the gods that listen. And some of them, inspired by their own grandeur, decide that they know better than the misers walking the mortal vale. Or, maybe, there are gods that simply revel in doing the opposite of what they’re asked.
The door creaks quietly as someone walks in. Lann looks over her shoulder, for a moment distracted from washing her shirt. Her chest tightens upon recognizing his face, even more so when she sees his pained expression as though her mere presence is breaking his heart. If only he knew… She clenches her jaw and returns to feverishly brushing a dark stain from her clothes.
“Can I be of assistance?” she asks curtly.
Nikolai isn’t quite sure what he expected walking in. Maybe part of him wished that once Lann is sheltered from the awestruck gaze of First Army soldiers, she’ll magically revert to the person he remembered - the relentless girl he knew nearly a decade ago. Alas, she’s nowhere to be found.
He watches her back as she’s aggressively washing a cotton shirt. Nikolai realizes that Dominik was telling the truth - she is, in fact, wearing the symbolic gold pin in her hair. It’s holding up the low bun, a coil of auburn hair that probably looked a lot more neat a few hours ago, in the morning. Not having expected guests, she’s standing over the basin wearing only a bra, revealing countless scars littering her back. Nikolai takes a deep breath, trying to ground himself. Deep lines of red, pink and white scattered across her skin look equally painful and imposing. His mind slips into wondering how much pain she had to endure during those past ten years but his imagination is, despite everything, limited. Nikolai’s gaze slips off her back, partially flustered by the unexpected show of skin and the implications of having as many scars as she does. His eyes are drawn to the long, heavy-looking sword propped up on three wooden y-shaped sticks. Harbinger, one of the finest pieces of armoury that has left the royal forge. The sharpened and waxed iron glistens in the dim light of the small fire burning inside the crude hearth. The angle at which the light dances off the edge of the blade allows Nikolai to easily read the inscription along the fuller: Virtue guide your hand. Judging by the deep scars and the fact she’s still alive, Lann must keep true to those words.
That thought brings his attention back to her and her only. The strange cold tension that presses down on his chest is something he’d never associate with her. Nikolai begins to wonder whether he’s the one removed from reality - perhaps his longing has painted her holy and not just human.
“Can we talk, Lann?” he breaks the silence. “Not Swallow to the king, just us.”
The sound of the brush hitting the ceramic basin startles him. She grips the sides of the bowl and hangs her head. Nikolai is about to apologize for interrupting and leave, clearly having annoyed her with his unforeseen presence, when he hears the voice he’s been missing for so long:
“I killed him, Kolya.”
The whisper is barely audible, making Nikolai doubt his own senses for a moment. Maybe he wants to speak with her so desperately, his mind is conjuring the conversation so he doesn’t abandon his sanity just yet.
“I killed…” she speaks again but chokes on a sob. “I killed Cillian. I had to, he-”
Lann turns around to look at him and Nikolai feels as though he’s seeing for the first time - really seeing her, not the cold exterior she greeted him with earlier. Her eyes are bloodshot and surrounded by a greyish-purple halo as though she hasn’t slept in weeks. She takes in a ragged breath but it’s not enough to calm her down - her lips quiver and tears stream down her face. There’s no telling how long she’s been holding this in.
“He was conspiring against the crown.”
Another memory causes turmoil inside Nikolai’s mind: August, the morning after a thunderstorm, skinny boy with ginger curls, a mischievous smile, a mean-looking bullfrog: ‘I bet my dessert you won’t touch it.’
Nikolai furrows his eyebrows. Either unable or unwilling to accept this course of events, he shakes his head. “What are you talking about?”
“He was aiding General Kirigan. The idea to put the poison on Genya’s skin? The location of the Spinning Wheel?” She falls silent but leaves her mouth slightly agape as though she’s fighting herself to say something more. “Our father’s death?” she adds barely audibly.
“By the Saints…” he mutters under his breath. “How can you be sure?”
“Someone mistook Rudy,” the bird sitting on a perch in the corner of the room screeches at the mention of his name, “for Cillian’s falcon and I got his mail. I didn’t check the name on the envelope and just opened it, read through it and…” Lann hangs her voice for a moment. Nikolai doesn’t rush her. “I broke into his office when he wasn’t around, read through whatever documents he didn’t get to burn yet. It was all there: Kirigan’s empty promises, locations, dates, names, formulas. A whole coup d’etat across the hall from me and I never suspected a thing.”
Nikolai looks at her with obvious confusion. “It’s not your fault, Lann-”
“It is!” she yells. Tears are streaming down her face, performing a slight danse macabre on her shaking chin. Strangely enough, her grimace shows disgust rather than sadness. “I gave Cillian the poison that killed the king. I never once questioned why he would need Belladonna or aqua regia, only asked ‘How much?’. And the Spinning Wheel? He told me to make an inventory of the defenses and I only asked him when he’d like to have it done. All of this,” she frantically gestures around, “is because of me.”
“He was your brother,” Nikolai drones the word. Maybe he and Vasily didn’t always see eye to eye but he’d never even considered the possibility of his half-brother being a schemer. “Of course, you didn’t suspect him of treason. Saints, even I find it hard to believe.”
Lann steps towards him. An accusatory finger pointing towards herself. “But I should have. This is the only duty I have in this life. I bent the knee before the king and promised to keep him and his family safe. I failed at that. The only thing I was supposed to do, I-”
“Hey, stop this,” Nikolai interrupts her in a firm but gentle tone. His hands shot up to cradle her face out of some deeply ingrained instinct because he realizes his actions only when he feels her skin underneath his fingers. Berating himself for not asking her first, Nikolai is about to pull away but discards that silly idea when Lann leans into his palms. “Cillian’s wrongdoings have nothing to do with you. He may have betrayed the king but you remained loyal. You have kept your given word, no matter how difficult it was. I don’t know if I would have been equally brave.”
Her body shakes as she’s trying to calm down her breathing. It works maybe for a few seconds before another flood of salty tears rushes down her red, swollen cheeks. Lann would look tragically beautiful like one of the paintings hanging in the halls of Little Palace, if Nikolai could see past the haunting misery inside her eyes.
“If I did the right thing, why does it hurt so much?”
Nikolai feels his own throat clenching. This overwhelming powerlessness sets his fingertips ablaze, his own body begging him to do something, anything, to ease the devouring frustration burning his lungs and ribs.
“Because you still love him, despite everything.” A sad, humourless smile appears on his face. “You’ve always been a little too good.”
She doesn’t say anything for a moment and he doesn’t try coaxing anything out of her. Judging by her vacant stare, Lann wouldn’t notice a fly if it sat on the tip of her nose. Nikolai feels his stomach churning when his thoughts begin suggesting to him that she really does appear like a corpse brought back to life - soulless, lacking the vigour that all things animated require to remain alive.
Suddenly, Lann wraps her arms around his neck and buries her face in his chest. “What am I going to do without him, Kolya?” she cries into his shirt. Nikolai has a tight grip around her shoulders, clearly unwilling to let her go anytime soon. In all of his selfishness, he refuses to admit that this close embrace is more to curb his longing heart rather than bring her comfort. “This loneliness, it’s… If I have to bear it for a day more, I think I will die. It’s like there’s this hole, an abyss shaped like Cillian inside my chest and no one else will ever fit in there.”
“I know I can’t replace Cillian,” he begins slowly, thoughtfully, as he brushes his fingers through her hair, “I don’t even want to, but I’ll gladly be the resin that keeps you whole. If you let me, that is.”
To Nikolai’s dismay, Lann leans away from him but only enough to look at his face. His arm is still secured around her waist, keeping her body close to his. Maybe one day he’ll tell her how often he has dreamed of this very moment, imagining how her frame would fit him and how lovely her hands would feel against him.
“My grief is my problem,” she states firmly, although her trembling voice rids her of all seriousness. “You’ve got more important things to do. You’re king, you have a country to rule and a war to wage.”
Nikolai offers her a gentle smile, half-hoping to ease the tension that unchangeably makes him feel like the walls are closing in on them. “And what kind of miserable king am I going to be without my trusty Swallow?”
Lann knits her eyebrows in a sense of disbelief - did he not listen to her confession? Her repeated admission is explicit: “I killed my own brother after aiding him in a coup. I should be in the gallows.”
“Then it’s a good thing that I’m the king.” Patiently, Nikolai wipes tears off her face with his thumbs. “I need you, Lann. What words do I have to say to convince you that I truly want you by my side?”
Lann shakes her head. A breathy sigh of defeat leaves her mouth. She’ll forever remain oblivious to the heartache this little gesture of yielding is causing Nikolai. With closed eyes, she pleads: “Just tell me you forgive me.”
“I hold no grudge against you.”
“Please, Kolya.”
He studies her tired face for a moment. For the first time, Nikolai realizes that kinghood is akin to godhood - the judgment of people whose only sin is trying their best. “I forgive you. For everything that you’ve done and didn’t manage to do, I forgive you. I hope you can forgive me too.”
Before Lann can ask about his enigmatic words, Nikolai is pouring his desperation and longing into a long overdue kiss. Without hesitation, she returns the affection but this bliss doesn’t last long as guilt begins to creep up her spine again. Fighting her own desire, Lann turns her face away from Nikolai who opts for pecking her temple and cheeks, hardly capable of taming his yearning.
“This can’t be.” Lann’s whisper makes him halt his frenzied affection. She puts her hand against his chest but doesn’t push him away. “I’m a fratricide.”
“And I’m a bastard,” he answers casually as if those shameful titles carry no importance inside their microcosm. “We fit each other well, if I may say so.” Tenderly, Nikolai wraps his fingers around her wrist, keeping her hand against his chest. The longer his eyes study Lann’s face, the more his expression softens, soon becoming a painting of uninhibited adoration.
“Loving me is a disgrace to you.”
“Then I hope to never know virtue.”
She closes the distance between them, forcefully kissing him but Nikolai doesn’t seem to mind bumping noses or clashing teeth - all of that is laughable and unimportant compared to the warm softness of her lips against his. It’s everything he’s been imagining and so much more at the same time. Lann tastes like fresh berries and sour lemonade on a summer afternoon, making Nikolai wish he could relish this flavour for the rest of his life.

LA LUNA Y EL MAR. #1
Namor x MayaFem! Reader
hi!
I’m Aline and I’m very excited to be able to publish this at last.
I have to clarify a few things before you read:
I’m not Maya but I tried to be as respectful as possible by integrating different details of the culture.
I don’t speak Maya but I used a Spanish-Maya translator from the Mayan Intercultural University of Quintana Roo who helped me to be able to make the reader speak Maya, I apologize if there are any mistake.
Since English is not my first language, I use DeepL translator so that the text is in English, I apologize if there is any grammar mistake or if there are parts that are meaningless. Let me know if you see something.
DISCLAIMER: There is mention of nudity but NOT in a sexual aspect, the protagonist is Mayan by birth and speaks Mayan as well as English (although in the original version it is Spanish but it is translated, anyways), Namor is wanting to conquer a difficult woman, the name of the reader town is not mentioned because I didn’t think of anything. SOME TENSION BUT NOT AS MUCH
COMMENT, LIKE AND REBLOG IF YOU LIKE. LET ME READ YOUR OPINIONS.
PART 2 now available
Tumblr media
From a very young age there was something different about me, my name was given to me in honour of the goddess who watched over my mother and me at the time of my birth, Ixchel, goddess of the moon, love, gestation, water, medicine and textile work, I received her blessing and protection from the moment I arrived in this world.
I was three months old when my life changed, my jets' meek', or my baptism as the colonisers called it, would take place, my grandmother would be my godmother and together with the person in charge of officiating the ceremony, my parents and the members of the community, we went to a remote place in the middle of the jungle.
When we arrived at the place to be baptised, there was a bonfire formed by three large stones in the centre, this was lit and the ceremony began, I was too small to remember what happened, my mother refused to tell me what happened and my father only scolded me every time I asked how I got my gifts, the only one who agreed to tell me what happened was my grandmother, after making me swear that I would never say anything to anyone.
She says that a few minutes after I started, my crying became present and the jungle was enveloped in total calm, the fire flared up and the clouds that covered the moon moved, allowing the moon to bathe me in its light. The wáay (wizard) of the community, looked at me in fear and then said
"U k'uchul k protectora" (Our protector has arrived).
"Ba'ax tu u refiere." (What does it refer to?) mum asked as she looked worriedly at the wáay.
"Le diosa ujo' ts'o'ok yéeyik a waal utia'al u vele tuméen le ma'alob to'on" (The goddess Moon has chosen your daughter to watch over the good of us).
The only noise was the wood burning, my grandmother assured me that even the animals had fallen silent.
"Ku nats'ikuba'ob oba' k'iino'oba' dark times and men across the sea will come" (Dark times are coming and men across the sea will come).
The whole community was surprised and many of them did not understand how a baby would protect them, they never dared to question what was said, my parents were the leaders and I was their heir.
But as time went on, I grew older and the arrival of these men drew nearer.
I was 5 years old when my brother, K'iino', who was named after the Sun who watched over his birth, arrived. We were opposites, but from the moment I saw him in my mother's arms, I knew I would give my life for him and the term protector took on a certain logic.
When I was 9 years old, to honour my birth, my father gave me two wristbands made of a strange metal that had been discovered in a remote part of the jungle, and from that moment on I wore them every day. Dad told me that there was nothing tougher than that strange mineral and that if I was in danger, they would be of great help to me.
Only a few months after that, they brought those men that the goddess Luna had warned us about. At first they explored the area around our community, but one night, while I was sleeping with my family, the piercing screams of the people around us alerted us, and when we came out of the house, everything was on fire.
Those men, speaking an unknown language, were beating and burning our houses, some were trying to take women away, they were struggling but those guys had strange weapons, so it was very easy for them to attack them.
I took my wristbands and together with the men of the community, I rushed to defend our home, mother and K'iino' fled together with grandmother, I remember their faces full of terror and tears running down their cheeks. They tried to stop me but it was my duty to look after the good of my people.
Some of them threw bullets at me that were no match for my wristbands, but not all my warriors were as lucky, we managed to wipe out all the invaders, but when we looked for dad, he was lying on the ground with a hole in the centre of his stomach, some coloniser had shot him.
The leader of my people had fallen at the hands of these men.
"A prometo wáaj ka kanáantik na' yéetel u k'iino', ma' ti' leti'ob yaan u mentik si'ipil Ma'atech mixba'al, teech ka juro. Je'el u páajtal a je'elel yuum, teech jump'éel guerrero" (I promise to protect and take care of mum and K'iino', they will never lack anything, I swear. You can rest, daddy, you are a warrior)
"Taas tsikbe'enil a kaajal yéetel a ba'atsil, táan in seguro u u a asab" (Bring honour to your people and your family, I am sure you will do your best).
My father smiled a little and sighed finally closing his eyes, I kissed his hand and stood next to him.
No one was going to attack my people, let alone hurt my family like that again.
I remember that we said goodbye to him in a Cenote, as our tradition marked it, I was the last one to leave the place, because being there, made me feel him close, the calm that the water gave me was something like no other, the crystalline water invited me to submerge myself in it.
When I was thinking of doing it, I heard screams in the distance, it was not my village because it was very far from the point, but as I could not leave without investigating, I went into the jungle, I knew it like the back of my hand, so it was not difficult to locate me, I was approaching the sea, the waves were breaking in the distance.
When I was close enough to see what was happening, I noticed how those conquerors were fleeing in terror, my eyes managed to visualise what they were escaping from, they were blue men carrying what looked like a corpse.
They were blue.
In the centre was a boy of my age, apparently, wearing green shorts and ostentatious jewellery, he had wings on his ankles and was walking guarded by those creatures.
I moved my position so that I could observe him better, keeping my distance, for they had begun to attack those usurpers, the house they had built to protect themselves was on fire and those creatures showed no mercy.
The boy turned in my direction and I am sure he caught sight of me, for he frowned in confusion that there was someone spying on them, but he did nothing to approach.
I ran away from the place and came to the community warning that we had to be ready in case of an attack, I never said from whom.
But that never happened.
[…]
Years passed and the community learned to handle the indestructible mineral.
We became invincible to those men and as time passed, we also became invisible, we became one with the jungle and no one from the outside bothered us.
I became the leader and protector of my whole community, I was a goddess to them, for they took me as the representative of the moon goddess on earth. So, I took on the role given to me without resistance.
Our territory was made up of almost 80% jungle, which I knew perfectly well, there was not a single tree, plant or animal that I did not know about, it was my home and I knew how to move around there, but the remaining 20% was a beautiful coast that gave way to the most beautiful sea, where the waves broke against the white sand and the smell of the salt water was refreshing.
My people hardly went there, after a few sightings of the blue beings, even my best warriors refused to go to this part of the territory at night, they said the sea was too scary.
And I would be lying if I didn't accept that on more than one occasion, my hair stood on end as I felt someone carefully following my movements.
I remember being 25 years old one night when I managed to sneak away from the council (made up of my mother, my brother who became a cunning warrior and some elders), I headed to the beach, there was a full moon in the sky and I needed to be in contact with the water to let go of all my worries.
I took off my white dress, and undid the braids in my hair, it fell down my back, black and unruly, my mother said it was the same shade as the night sky.
When the only thing I was wearing was the jewellery on my body, I walked to the shore and after feeling the water on my feet I began to walk into the sea, when I reached waist level, I submerged completely.
The moon gave me light, the reflection of the moon on the sea was the only thing that gave me vision and clarity, I allowed myself to dive a little deeper and explore the beauty of the ecosystem that surrounded me, the fish swam in harmony with me, but the water embraced me and I felt at home.
When I came up for air, I felt it, someone was watching me.
It wasn't an animal, but the look it gave me made me feel as if I was its prey.
I started to swim towards the shore, trying to identify where the penetrating gaze was coming from, it didn't seem to lose track of me for a second.
When I came out of the sea, I turned around to identify whatever was watching me, the wind pierced my bones and that's when I remembered my nakedness, as I put on my dress, I saw someone emerge from the depths.
It was a man, the darkness made it impossible for me to identify him, but when he rose, his shadow came between me and the moonlight.
He had wings around his ankles.
My mouth opened slightly in shock and I felt like I was 9 years old once again.
None of us said anything..
He didn’t try to get close and I didn’t try to have some kind of contact.
He just wanted him to know that he was there.
That he was watching me.
After a few seconds, we heard someone coming towards us, so the young man quickly sank into the sea.
A moment after that, my brother appeared, carrying a torch in his hand and with a frightened face worthy of a portrait.
"A wojel ba'ax ma' in p'u'ujul a taal le nu'ukulil u lu'umil, ba'ale' ma' a escabullas, u k'áate' u logras le ts'áaten jump'éel ma'alo'ob susto" (You know I don't mind you coming to this part of the territory, but don't sneak away, that the only thing you achieve is to give me a good scare).
I laughed and promised not to run away again.
He started walking towards the jungle, I stayed behind and admired the sea once again, there was so much to see.
[...]
The years passed and even though I looked young, my age was many centuries older than I appeared, my grandmother was gone, as was my mother, as was K'iino', all at different times but a long time ago.
At least throughout their lives I took care to keep the promise I made to dad, don't let anyone hurt them, but time is cruel and leaves no one behind, except me, it seems.
My people had dwindled but remained firm and stable, the people who were with me in the early years were long gone, and others came who also left, I remember the names of all of them and the work they did to help the community.
I was on the beach, looking at the horizon and listening to the sea when a young man who reminded me a lot of K'iino', approached me.
"Yaan ba'al in x-ko'olel. Ma' k ojel le Ba'ale' ma' ba'al túumben, ya'ab yaan k'iin" (There is something, my lady. We don't know what it is but it's not something new, it's been around for a long time).
I took my spear and asked him to lead me to where the thing they had found was. He nodded and started walking through the grass, I had walked this path a thousand times and never noticed anything out of the ordinary, but when we arrived there was something different for sure.
A large stone door was in front of us, I could have sworn there was a Cenote, but I had never seen this before, the stone was carved and it was even older than my birth.
I ordered everyone to return to the city, some of them refused to leave me alone, I told them that if I did not return when the sun was about to set, to come and find me at this point. I could not risk putting them at risk.
I walked inside the archway once everyone had left and when my eyes got used to the lack of light, I noticed that there was only calm, the water was calm, the only thing that disturbed it was the steps I took to be able to observe everything better.
There was nothing out of the ordinary on the surface, when I dived to see everything in a better way, at the bottom of the Cenote, there was a beautiful orange conch shell, I swam until I reached it and took it to be able to return to the jungle.
When on the shore, I brought this beautiful object to my mouth and blew on it with the intention of getting the water out of it, but it emitted an incredibly powerful sound that made my skin freeze.
I left the cave quickly and entered the jungle once more, but only a few minutes later the rustling of leaves behind me gave away the person who was following me.
I turned quickly, putting my spear to his neck.
When I saw who it was, my eyes widened in surprise.
"Ta t'aanaj wáaj" (Did you call me?) the man said to me, unfazed by having a pointed object in the centre of his throat.
His naked abdomen, now completely marked, was wet and some drops were sliding down it, his hair was damp and he wore ostentatious jewellery, made of jade and gold, he was still wearing those green trousers and the wings on his ankles confirmed to me who he was.
"Máakalmáak a k'aaba'." (What is your name?) I demanded to know as I exerted a little pressure.
"My people call me K'uk'ulkan, but my enemies call me Namor." He said in the language of the colonisers, which took me by surprise.
He took advantage of my distraction and pulled me closer to him, knocking my weapon out of the way.
"How do you know the language of the colonists?" I demanded to know.
"I have to know who I'm up against," he said bluntly.
"Táan a tu lu'umil ma' a tia'al" (You are in territory that is not yours) I let him know as I discreetly examined his face.
"Teech ta t'aanen" (You called me) he replied, as I did, analysing my face in detail.
"Tin wilech ka ka'ach juntúul x-yéetel le wíiniko'obo' ch'ooj" (I saw you when I was a little girl, with the blue people) I said immersed in his black eyes, changing the subject and ignoring that I played that melody.
He nodded as immersed as I was.
"Ka'ach tu paach tu paach le páak'alo'obo', kin k'a'ajsikech. Bey u jáal, ka'ach báabo'ob ken a suku'un Chíikpaj" (You were behind the plants, I remember you. Like on the beach, you were swimming when your brother appeared).
His words sent a shiver down my spine.
"Wáaj Buka'aj k'iin In Meent a wilmajij'." (How long have you seen me?) I asked him doubtfully.
He didn't answer me. He just kept quiet
"Ka'ach ti' jump'éel kúuchil kili'ich utia'al Talokan" (You were in a place sacred to Talokan) he said to me in a stern tone of voice.
"Ma' uts tin repeat in k'áat chi'oba'. Ba'ax ku beetik Buka'aj k wilik." (I don't like to repeat my questions. How long have you been seeing us?) I demanded that he answer me in a stern tone.
I turned away from him and we began to walk in circles, waiting for an attack from the other. For my part I was watching for his people to show up.
"Tak u yáax k'iin (From the first day).
My spear was in my hand again, and my hair was swaying in the wind as I waited for his explanation
"Ka tin wilaj ichil le xíu, Yanchaj ba'al ti' a wicho'ob in tu t'aanaj u yaalak'." (When I saw you in the undergrowth, there was something in your eyes that called to me).
He approached with cautious steps and my eyes followed his movements in detail. When his body was very close to mine, he lowered his gaze and said, almost whispering.
"Yaan ya'ab ku" (There was much courage).
I remained static in my place, the wind blew even stronger and the leaves began to whistle.
"The surface world is cruel and merciless, our peoples are in constant danger" he said very close to my ear, as he gently grabbed my shoulders.
I turned my head very discreetly so that he could fit his face between my neck, he understood my hidden intentions and moved closer to me.
"But your people have managed to remain stable and protected on this terrible planet. All thanks to you." he praised me. "I have done the same for my people and Talokan has kept himself hidden from all those who wish to harm him."
I did not understand the reason for his words.
"You are perceived as a goddess by your people, but you have no heirs and when you are gone, there will be no one to carry on the legacy”.
I averted my gaze in annoyance.
"We are not so different, you and I only seek the best for our people. If we were united there would be no threat."
I quickly understood his intentions and faced him.
"I have never wanted an heir, let alone to be in a marriage," I clarified.
Namor quickly hardened his gaze.
"If you wish to make an alliance between your people and mine, our marriage is not the way to do it," I turned away from him and my posture changed to a sterner one.
"Since I first saw you all those years ago, I knew I wanted to reign alongside Talokan.
"We were just children," I said firmly.
"But not anymore and as time passed, your beauty matured and you became the perfect queen to sit next to me on Talokan's throne."
The sun was beginning to set and I had to return to my village.
"Teech k'a'am yéetel ba'ate'elo'obo' tuméen a wíiniko'obo'" (You are strong and you fight for your people).
"Your proposal is based on a childish whim that I refuse to be a part of," I broke the tension that had built up and began to walk home.
"Jáan" (I will return)
"Le núukik le ka yaan ma', ku suut a wotoch ka náachkunta'al teech in yéetel in kaajal" (the answer is and will be no, go back home and away from me and my people )
Yes, there is a second part.

Tumblr media
Isabelles father remarried into the Crewels after her mother abandoned them. She was formally adopted and recognized as Divus daughter afterwards.
The Crewels own a great deal of businesses relating to textiles and clothing. Such as selling and importing fabrics, owning a number of high end dress shops and sewing stores. Miss Lilith Crewel The matriarch of the family also owns a ladies magazine that does very well for itself and is popular amoung women in various social classes.
In preparation for Isabelles first season out into society, Lilith Crewel had arranged for her old acquaintances, the Ashengrottos, to protect her. Isabelle as the sole heir to a vast fortune also puts her in danger to gentlemen of less honorable intentions. From Fortune Hunters looking to marry her and take advantage of her money to the real possibility of being ransomed, however unlikely it may be. Regardless, Lilith had no intention of taking a risk on her granddaughters well being until an appropriate match can be found.
As such, now Isabelle is under the protection of the Ashengrotto family, with their daughter, Drew as her main protector. Ensuring no such comes to her. Isabelle does not mind Drew's company and the two become good friends.
However, it appears her grandmothers suspicions were correct. Most of the suitors that come to call do not catch her attention and clearly only telling her what she wants to hear and asking questions that mostly pertain to the lifestyle she is able to afford. If not, many are also scared away after the intimidating presence of her grandmother and Drew.
Isabelle as a romantic and lover of romance novels, is hopeful for a love match someday, but so far no man has caught her eyes. Until a mysterious stranger visiting from Briar Valley comes to town for the season.
🌹🎀🌹🎀🌹
"Miss Isabelle Rosa-Crewel was presented this season by her grandmother, Madam Lilith Crewel. Brought into high society as a child, Miss Crewel has been able to blossom like a rose over the years in more ways than one. A sentiment that shows in her reputation as one of the great beauties of The Ton. However, every rose has its thorns, as it appears Miss Crewel must prepare them for the slew of suitors that will undoubtedly be looking at her lofty fortune as the sole heir of her family. Will this rose be plucked from her garden, or will she stay firmly rooted where she is? This author cannot wait to find out." -Lady Whistledown

3,500-Year-Old Gold Jewelry Found in Egyptian 18th Dynasty Tomb
The jewelry collection was discovered by a team of Egyptian and English archaeologists.
A collection of ornate gold jewelry dating back to 3,500 years ago was recently discovered at the Tell El-Amarna necropolis, along the eastern bank of the Nile River in Egypt.
The necropolis, located in modern-day Minya, was a burial ground for the city of Amarna, or Akhetaten, and was constructed in 1346 BCE to serve as the capital city of the Pharaoh Akhenaten, the 10th ruler of the late Eighteenth Dynasty.
The jewelry collection was discovered by a team of Egyptian and English archaeologists who were working on excavations at the Amarna North Desert Cemetery when they unearthed the burial site of a young adult female.
The woman had been wrapped in textile and plant-fiber matting and buried wearing a necklace with petal-shaped pendants as well as three rings made from gold and soapstone.
The image of the ancient Egyptian deity Bes, who was worshipped as a protector of mothers, children and childbirth, is engraved on one of the three rings.
The other two rings are inscribed with a phrase in hieroglyphics that translates into “lady of the two lands,” presumably referring to Egypt’s lower and upper kingdoms.
The young woman was buried among a small number of other burial shafts, pit graves and tombs, all of which date back to 1550-1292 BCE, during the Eighteenth Dynasty.
Although the Akhenaten initially followed traditional Ancient Egyptian polytheistic religion, he later created his own religion, called Atenism, which centered around the worship of the sun god Aten.
Construction on the city was started around the fifth year of his reign (1346 BCE)  and is thought to have been completed by the ninth (1341 BCE), although it only became the capital city two years after completion.
The city was abandoned soon after the pharoah's death when his son, King Tutankhamun decided to leave it behind in favor of his birthplace in Thebes.
As a result, the city and its internal plans were largely preserved, as once it had been abandoned it remained uninhabited until Roman settlement in the area. Today, the ruins of the city include grand temples, palaces and tombs.
According to Ahram Online, the ancient city continues to transform our understanding of how human society has developed, due to its status as one of the world's preeminent archaeological sites for understanding how people lived in the pre-Classical world.

“I think you’re off target,” I said. “You’re talking about Foil, I get it, and Parian, and now the Chicago Wards and Glenn. But all of the decisions they made were when I wasn’t anywhere near them. Unless you’re implying I have some sort of mind control.”
yeah taylor, about that,, your category of control is attributed to insects but it also includes crustaceans, cephalopods, arachnids, not to mention the microscopic parasites and WORMS. it seems your category of control is a lot more open than you think, possibly even able to expand.
all im saying is mind control isnt that far off.
Tumblr media
i dont think taylors ever snap decided someone to be bad just because of how they interpret and summarise her actions, i wonder whats different here
We won, I thought.  We beat him, and you’re quibbling over details.
ah, she doesnt consider her actions here wrong.
Tumblr media
that's how canary gets out? i had ideas but none of them were endbringer fodder
We won, you bastards.  I clenched my fists beneath the table.
this is really getting to her, fuck.
Tumblr media
how arent they noticing this? bugs dont go this ignored, especially if someone in the room is a bug master, am i going crazy?
Tumblr media
she's been caught from the start, damn.
…He won’t have our assistance, I thought. I heard the words, and my bugs spoke them.  Every bug, within the building, repeated him, verbatim.  The good, the bad, the details that damned me.  It wasn’t a question of finding the right person, or saying the right thing.  It was everyone, saying everything.
!!!
whent things go bad, taylor spot checks, when things get worse SHE SPOT CHECKS HARDER
“It’s exactly what Chevalier wanted,” I said. My eyes dropped to the table. I didn’t meet his gaze, didn’t try to engage the visitors. “Open, honest. Exposing the rot at the center.”

Tumblr media
what does the chief director mean by that... taylors right, they were opposed from the get go.
if chief west was on her side, that would mean very disturbing things for the PRT (cauldron compliant)
“You want me to make a move. Powerful enough to shake them, break the status quo, not powerful or blatant enough to break my probation or give them an excuse to drop the book on me.”
given that she was always going to do the first half, (this is taylor after all) glenns basically just asking her to hold back and be careful

Happy International Women's Day to all the women who follow us, work with us at the Rubin, and are depicted in the artwork of our collection!
This work depicts Magzor Gyalmo (Mongolian: Chog tegulder okin tngri), Queen Who Repels Armies. She is a wrathful emanation of the goddess Sarasvati and the special protector of the Dalai Lamas.
Mongolians became especially known for their large appliqués, examples of which can reach several stories tall. Scraps of multicolored Chinese silks in various patterns were cut to shape and cleverly integrated into a complex rendering. A variety of embroidery stitches and gold couching (gold-wrapped horsehair fastened to the appliqué with small stitches at regular intervals) delineate the details. Especially distinctive of Mongolian appliqué are tiny seed pearls and small coral beads stitched onto the textile surface. In general, sacred textiles such as this were designed by monks for important ritual occasions, and they were stitched mostly by women.

Magzor Gyalmo, Queen Who Repels Armies; Mongolia; 18th century; silk applique with pearls, coral, horsehair, and gold thread; Rubin Museum of Art, Gift of the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation; F1996.19.1 (HAR 472)

statnick? spare statnick???
OKAY SO this is elaborating on an idea i had like years ago that i drew (the art of nick cradling static man's face) but i thought itd be really interesting for there to be a post-left of the dial / season 4 pitch fanfic where nick is trying to make another ritual, but he keeps failing at it - maybe theres more brutal consequences, but some just fizzle out completely. theres this dichotomy building of the two of them getting closer as friends but also a sense of not wanting to disappoint the other person - nick promised static man a body, and static man promised to be his protector and collaborator. with no rituals to do and no enemies to fight, both struggle to admit defeat or connect to the other on a personal level.
after months, nick has exhausted his fathers library, and the small collection of reading materials hes bartered for from other sorcerers. as a last ditch attempt, nick says fuck it, i have dads money burning a hole in my pocket, lets travel the world and try find a ritual.
so it becomes an extended trip, kinda like left of the dial, but all over the place - first the states, driving around in the same car they used 10 months ago on the blacktop, then to mexico, chile, and bolivia - then to france, to germany, to italy and spain and then egypt, syria, turkey, then pakistan, nepal, and the torres strait islands. whatever sparse luggage nick bought with him, he suddenly finds himself having to buy another suitcase just for the books and textiles and trinkets he buys along the 9 weeks they spend doing a tour around the world, following tips from other people connected to magic along the way.
all the while, nick is searching, but more than that, hes reconnecting with the human beings around him. he used to be a shut in before all the magic, and he got even worse after it, so getting out and meeting people and getting into mischief is a breath of fresh air, all the while, bringing static man along for the journey when he can make excuses for the being made of static walking next to him
eventually, they find their answers, and its so simple, but nick wasnt thinking outside himself for so long he didnt realise it - he couldnt help static man because he was impure, carrying around magical baggage and trauma on the inside, festering in his flesh, and being unable to help because of it. and that same magical rot inside nick is what static man is covered in - dark magic, gnashing teeth, entropy - and it is like dirt sticking to both of them
so he comes up with a ritual - for a week, he drinks dandelion tea 3 times a day, he meditates in the sun, he fills the house with soft music, and he thinks hard about humanity, all for static man.
then, he buys a clawfoot bathtub and drags it to the basement, fills it with water and jojoba oil and dandelion leaves and a litre of his own blood that turns it black as night - there is soft-burning incense and the very beginning rays of dawn poking through the small window just above ground level. static man sits in the tub, or whatever the approximation he can do with his mass to appear to be sitting, and nick starts
Tumblr media
and its simple - static man suddenly comes into awareness of flesh under static - a body buried. nick washes away the cloying static from the man underneath, and it feels like peeling dead skin, like sensation before pain, all sensitivity and raw edges
Tumblr media
it takes hours, the water is long cold by the time theyre done, but when they are, the water is crystal clear, and static man is static no longer.

Banyoles, Spain (No. 5)
Banyoles dates back to the ninth century AD, and the narrow streets and plazas of the medieval town centre are well worth visiting.
In 812, Abbot Bonitus formed the Sant Esteve Monastery, which became one of the most important religious centres in the area and was under the protectorate of the Count of Besalú.
The town of Banyoles grew up around the monastery, and the townspeople built a series of ditches called “recs” to bring water from the lake. The plentiful water supply was used for irrigation and the textile industry that developed in the town. By the twelfth century, textiles from Banyoles were exported throughout Europe.
Today, Banyoles town centre still preserves elements of its historical past, including an attractive arcaded plaza, cobbled streets, medieval stone buildings and part of the medieval walls.
Life in Banyoles revolves around the Plaça Major, a picturesque square that dates back to the twelfth century. The plaza is flanked by arcaded stone buildings, most of which house bars and restaurants that set up tables on the plaza. At one side of the plaza, water still flows through one of the original medieval channels built to bring water from the lake.

30 January 680 ... the death of Balthild, the Anglo-Saxon slave girl turned queen of the Franks.
The background to Balthild’s enslavement is a mystery, but it seems she was a native of East Anglia and perhaps an innocent victim of dynastic fighting over the throne.
Her biographer, writing a decade after Balthild’s death, says she taken when very young 'from across the sea' (i.e., from Britain).
In Francia, she became the protégé of Erchinoald, the top official in the royal palace and the protector of the young king Clovis II. (Of Erchinoald, a chronicler said, “he lined his own pockets, to be sure, but quite moderately”.)
In 648, king Clovis II chose her as his bride. When he died nine years later, Balthild acted as regent for their son Chlothar III until he too came of age. She spent the last 15 years of her life in retirement (possibly forced) in the nunnery at Chelles, which is now a suburb of Paris.
Within a decade of Balthild’s death, she was on her way to sainthood.
The nuns of Chelles opened the grave and Balthild’s long plaits of hair (greying strawberry-blonde and tied with red, yellow and green silk ribbons) her bones and her burial clothing were all bundled up and placed in a reliquary casket. The nuns, thinking ahead, even left authentication slips for future generations!
What’s extraordinary is that these relics survived the French Revolution (when they were already 1,100 years old). That’s because Chelles sent its entire medieval collection into hiding before the Revolutionaries got there.
The caskets stayed in a local church until 1983, when a local historian persuaded the Church authorities to open them.
To their astonishment, they found the relics that Chelles had been hoarding since its foundation in the 7th-Century.
These included the bones of Queen Balthild. It turns out she was just over 5 feet tall.
The fragments of textile show the queen went to the grave in a brown silk dress and a silk girdle woven with animal motifs; a yellow silk veil; and a fringed mantle of red and yellow silk fastened with a small gold brooch.
Surviving in much better condition is a white linen pinafore apron embroidered at the neckline with necklaces, pendants and the cross.
The story goes that the retired queen used to attend mass decked out in all her royal jewels until a visiting holy man rebuked her for her lack of humility in church.
Balthild took off the trappings of wealth, kept one pair of gold bracelets and gave away the rest. After that, she wore the linen pinafore with the ghostly outline of the jewels she no longer owned.
This way, she advertised her piety to the nuns inside the convent walls ... while at the same, subtly reminding them of the royal power she had given up to join them.

Okay now that I got that out of my system, I have thoughts on the investigation team. Obviously Kanji is up next. I'm very hyped for him.
So he appears on the Midnight Channel, and luckily everyone recognizes him instead of being mysteriously baffled and uncertain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before we can really dig into the mechanics of the Midnight Channel, Yosuke wants to know if I'm into Chie or Yukiko. Sadly, no. I'm still keeping my options open.
I very much have a Type, and my Type is "competent person, usually a fighter themselves, who is undergoing their own full character arc in tandem with mine." Garrus and Akihiko fit that tremendously, they are like the pinnacle of that shit, that's my catnip. I like growing emotional maturity and feeling like a partner or equal to the person. (Again, Garrus fucking Vakarian is the best romance in games, you can @ me.)
Chie and Yukiko aren't my jam, tho Yukiko seems nice and if I HAD to pick, probably her. But also: god please can I have some more options.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to the investigation, we're finally one step ahead of things. Yukiko knows Kanji because Amagi Inn is a client of Tatsumi Textiles. Fucking aces, we have an in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
gasp
we meet them this early? omg.
Their voice is like suede on ice, it's very good. I like a very even measured cadence.
Also no joke this shop is beautiful, I would love to just look around in this place and touch things. I love patterns so much.
After the mysterious slender young man leaves, it turns out that the first murder victim got a scarf from here, but like.
I think the first victim might be a red herring altogether and the entire case is supernatural in some way. Like, in a moment we get to see that Kanji is not actually stuck in the TV yet, he's in the normal world still. So the Midnight Channel somehow knows who the victim is going to be beforehand. This happened with Yukiko as well, when we all thought she was kidnapped but she was working at the inn still.
So, the Midnight Channel is forecasting the next person beforehand.
Two options:
A. The killer is somehow tuned to the Midnight Channel itself and the way their power works, it does the forecasting beforehand. The killer is likely from the TV World or connected to it.
B. The killer is responding to the Midnight Channel's directive when it forecasts who is next, and thus the victims aren't actually being picked by the killer but by the TV.
... Neither of these make a lot of sense, but they make more sense than the killer selecting victims and the TV weirdly Knowing about it and informing everyone.
SHRUG. ANYWAY.

oh wow it's not even subtle huh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THEN AGAIN NEITHER ARE THESE IDIOTS
y'all are not particularly skilled in any form of subtlety of subterfuge, are you. the "standing in plain sight without cover" tactic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
everything out of Kanji's mouth fills me with utter joy. troy baker my beloved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
covers face with hands
nice, uh, alliteration, Shadow Kanji. whoo boy.
INTERESTINGLY bc I think this entire game is about rumors and obfuscations of truth, when the team asks Teddie if he can find Kanji, he can't pinpoint his location and wants some details on Kanji. no one in the team knows anything because all they know about Kanji are the punk rumors around him. hm hm hm!
oh and i nearly forgot

PRIESTESS SOCIAL LINK: GET
This one, even more than the others I don't get. The High Priestess is a keeper of vast knowledge and wisdom, sitting sentry over a veil or doorway between the conscious world and the subconscious, the mystical, the sacred. Sometimes this is literally some "women understand magic more then men sacred feminine" shit but putting aside that annoying shit, the Priestess is a protector of both the knowledge they preside over and a protector of the querent. Their purpose is to know what answers to give and how, so to keep the querent safe.
Fuuka made a pretty good Priestess as the SEES' mission control character. She gazed into the abyss so others did not have to, essentially. She also had a strong air of detachment from her peers, which is a common stumble of the priestess, that isolation from those who don't share their burden.
If to bend really hard and connect the concept of Amagi Inn and legacy to the 'burden' of the Priestess, then maybe? But like Yosuke, Yukiko doesn't yet have the signifiers I would expect from their arcanas.
BLAH BLAH TAROT BLAH BLAH, kanji's heeeeeeere, i'm so happy. I know what arcana I might give him but I'm sure the game will do something stupid like make him the Emperor or whatever.
