He freezes. Doesn't know what the hell else to do.
He can't picture it: Derek can't remember the last time somebody put their arms around him.
Was it Laura?
Of course it was Laura. How could he forget that? Derek has gotten pretty good at blocking things out—a little too good, it seems.
She didn't tell him she was going before she left New York. Didn't say a fucking word, just vanished. Derek had woken up one morning and she was gone, because she'd known without a doubt that Derek would only follow her if she'd have said a single word to him.
Nobody ever granted Derek’s wishes, no matter who he prayed to. The desperate pleas where he asked to go back and get a chance to fix things, they all went unheard.
Laura left to go back to the place they both wished still existed just as it had; a place they were wanted alive, not dead. It wasn't fair that it was the very same place they would be hunted down if they did return, like the rabid animals the Argent's presumed they were.
Leaving the way they did meant they hadn't gotten the chance to see if anything was left at the house. They couldn't mark graves, or grieve properly.
That same place also happened to be the place they'd been born, the place they'd grown up and called home.
Derek had never wanted Laura to face all of that alone.
The burnt down house. The nothing where there was once everything.
The thought still haunts him. One of so fucking many.
Beacon Hills is home—but it's the home Derek had helped raze to the ground with his selfishness and stupidity. Everything he and Laura had ever known, everyone they'd ever loved, it was all gone, now. Derek had taken those things away from his sister and hadn't even had the guts to tell her. Tell Laura they were all gone because of him, tell her that everything that had happened to their family, to them, was all his fault.
In the aftermath of the fire Laura hugged Derek, and had kept hugging him, over and over in those weeks and months and years that followed. She would pull him into her arms hold him tight, whenever she could sense it was all getting to be too much for him again.
Alpha.
Big sister.
But Laura only knew about some of the reasons why it sometimes felt like too much effort for Derek to keep on breathing.
He never told her about Kate.
And Derek, the fucking coward, he'd allowed Laura to hold him, feeling the flames of shame on his cheeks every time, hot as those that took the lives of his parents. His family. His pack.
Now, he remembers that last time.
“I'm going out.”
Laura stood up, walked around the two mismatched armchairs and stopped him by throwing both her arms around his neck, pulling him into her and hugging him, scenting him.
It always took him a moment to respond these days, but Derek hugged her back.
“What's this for?”
“You. Because I know whomever's bed you end up in tonight, you won't be asking for one of these.”
Oh, fuck no. Derek couldn't handle that. Did she think he was out sleeping with people? Never again, not after…
He pushed his sister off him, gently; a stark contrast to the harsh words that followed.
“Don't fucking coddle me. And fuck you, Laura—I don't sleep in anybody's fucking bed but my own.” A single mattress on the floor of the lounge of their shitty one bedroom apartment. Derek had so many shameful memories, and crawling into his sister's bed every night for the first year after the fire was one of them. “Just—leave me alone.”
Laura was the one—the only—person Derek had left in the entire world, yet his guilt was constantly pushing her away.
“Then where do you go to all these nights, little brother? You might not be clinging to me anymore, night after night, nightmare after nightmare, but you're so rarely in your own bed in the mornings.” She hadn't meant it as a dig. She was his sister and she loved him.
Maybe she thought he was making progress? Seeing people. Moving on.
Derek spent his nights waiting outside of dive bars, hanging around in back alleys and dark places, desperately trying to find scumbags he could taunt who were big enough and hard enough to at least attempt to kick the living shit out of him.
Derek hated being a werewolf, now. He wanted to get hurt and stay hurt.
“Just—out.”
Then Derek turned his back on Laura, leaving her to stand there and watch him walk away as he left her to go out looking for a fight, without looking back.
That was the last time somebody put their arms around Derek—and the last time he saw his sister alive.
It was two years ago. Derek doesn’t think he has taken a full breath, since.
Now here he is, standing in his big stupid loft that he bought for his betas—yet another pack he managed to destroy—having given away more than he should, with skinny yet strong arms wrapping themselves as far around his shoulders as they can reach.
Stiles.
“You don't have to hug back. But you can, if you want to. I won't tell,” the kid jokes. It's his way to connect, his connection to the world. A coping mechanism, Derek thinks.
He knows all about those.
“I…” he doesn't have the first fucking clue of how to handle this. Or how to admit he needs it—to himself, let alone somebody else. He doesn't know how to admit that he wants it.
But this is Stiles. The one person in Derek's life who seems, for some unfathomable reason, to give a fuck about Derek. To care about him.
Slowly, very slowly, Derek lifts an arm and awkwardly rests a hand on Stiles's upper back, feels the muscles jump slightly under the kid's baggy clothes as he tentatively spreads his fingers and finds the back of Stiles's neck.
Stiles's voice hitches just a touch as he says, “These can be on tap, you know. If you want them. Stilinski hugs are the best hugs, dude. Believe.”
And Derek finds he does believe. For the first time in forever, Derek believes there could be something good in his life again.
More confidently, now, he brings his other arm up to wrap around Stiles's waist and hugs Stiles tighter, properly, and allows himself to be hugged back.
Derek wonders how he has gone so long without this kind of closeness. Lived without this kindness.
He decides to let the 'dude' pass. Because maybe—maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all, to be somebody's dude?
Stiles's dude.
It's a fucking ridiculous moniker and yet Derek suddenly couldn't care less.
“I think I'd like that,” he whispers into the forbidden place where Stiles's jaw meets long, pale neck. "Dude."
Derek can feel Stiles's smile as the kid squeezes him harder. And, ironically, Derek feels as if he can breathe again.
.
for @greyhavenisback bc i want to hug you in person and can't <3 (unedited, forgive me!)

“I need to talk to you and not as your friend.”
Stiles and Derek are engaged, but Cora has something to talk to Stiles about first, and not as his friend. [AO3]
Tumblr media
Cora, Derek and Stiles sat in the living room, Cora and Stiles at opposite ends of the couch with Derek wedge between them.
They’d made it a tradition that they spent Sundays together, unless - of course - there was an emergency. Most Sundays they’d go for a walk through the reserve, watch movies together, or play the world’s most competitive games of Mario Kart.
Today, they were playing a few multiplayer games get Stiles had found for them.
In between games, Derek set his controller down.
“I’m going to get a drink,” he announced as he stood up. “Anyone want anything?”
“Don’t say ‘that cake’,” Cora growled at Stiles who was openly ogling his fiancé’s ass.
Stiles smirked, chuckling slightly. “Dr Pepper for me please.”
Derek turned to Cora, arching a brow and waiting for her request.
“Same,” Cora added. “Thanks.”
“Two Dr Peppers coming up,” Derek said as he skirted around the coffee table in the middle of the living room and out the door.
Once she was sure her brother was out of earshot, Cora scooted across the couch towards Stiles. She turned towards him and - rather abruptly - said, “I need to talk to you and not as your friend.” Stiles’ eyes widened with excitement. A small - joking - gasp escaped his lips. “We're friends?”
“Yes,” Cora replied, regretting it as she said it, “but if you tell anyone, I will deny it.”
Stiles nodded, expecting as much. “Okay. Will we still be friends after this conversation?”
“Yes, but I'm starting to reconsider my options.” Cora narrowed her eyes at him, a look of exasperation settling in to the shadows and creases of her face. “That’s beside the point! What I have to say now, I say as Derek's sister, not as your friend.”
“Okay...” Stiles replied, hesitantly.
Cora drew in a deep breath, calming herself.
“You two are getting married, and I'm happy for both of you,” she started, but her voice quickly took a dark turn, deepening to a threatening tone as her eyes pierced him, “but if you ever hurt my brother, if you ever break his heart or make him cry, I will hunt you down and kill you, got it?”
Stiles swallowed hard and nodded. “Got it.”
Cora’s glare softened as she sat back, relaxed. “Okay.”
“Are you back to talking to me as a friend again?” Stiles asked.
Cora fought the urge to roll her eyes. “Yeah.”
A spark of mischief lit Stiles’ eyes. “Dude, you won't believe what Derek's sister just said to me!”
Cora tried - and failed - not to laugh, letting out a short snort as she dipped her head to hide the smirk that turned up the corners of her lips.

Is this the start of a series like my gym one for Triple Frontier? Maybe, we'll see.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You make another bowl of pancake batter, making sure to make more than you did last time. God, that was a mess.
You had to calm down three of them and Stiles should know better than to throw a fit in front of everyone. He's older than them for god's sake.
You shake your head and scoop more batter into the second pan you have going.
Footsteps entering the kitchen alarm you but enough to make you worry.
"Hey," he pecks your cheek.
"Someone else could be up, you know."
"I already checked." He taps his ears.
"Really?" You stare the chimera with a deadpan expression.
"Yeah, really," he says sarcastically, smirking at you afterwards.
"You're not cute."
"Oh, I think you're wrong. I'm," he wraps his arms around your waist. "Adorable and as your adorable boyfriend, it's my duty to tell you that," he pecks your neck, the spot underneath your ear. "Your pancakes are close to burning."
Your eyes widen. "Oh, crap." You remove yourself from his grasp and remove the pancakes from the pans. "Go sit down. You can get started on breakfast before everyone else wakes up."
"As long as you eat with me." He turns off the stove, pulling you with him.
"But I-"
He sits down, pulling you down beside him. He prepares your plate before making his own. "Eat." His free arm wraps around your back, his hand landing on your hip, keeping you close.
"Sometimes I wonder how you were ever a bad guy," you comment, cutting up your pancake.
"Stiles says the same thing but more sarcastically."
"It'd be alarming if he didn't use sarcasm." You look for your glass and realize you didn't get something to drink for either of you. "Do you want milk or juice?" You look in the fridge.
"I'm not Liam."
You purse your lips. "Just because he's younger and doesn't like coffee, doesn't make him a child."
He gives you a look.
"Don't be mean. He's a nice guy."
You reach for a mug in the cabinet.
"He has a crush on you."
"He does not."
"He follows you around like a puppy."
"He says I'm like an older sister to him."
"So, he doesn't get his ass kicked."
"You got punched by him at least three times."
Theo scoffs. "Did he tell you that?"
"Everyone has."
He shakes his head, stabbing his fork into his food. "I let him."
"Sure, you did." You place the mugs beside the plates and sit back down. "I'd still call you to kick somebody's ass for me," you tell him, wanting him to feel better.
"Yeah?"
You nod, "of course I would. Also, not to mention how hot you look when you shifted."
"You think I'm hot?" He turns to you.
You pause in your bite, slowly swallowing. "No?"
"You do. You think I'm hot."
You scoff, pushing him away. "I didn't say that."
"You said I'm hot," he repeats to tease you.
"No," you whine when he leans in.
"What did I just walk into?"
You both freeze, slowly turning to face the human of the pack. "Hey, Stiles."
"Don't "hey Stiles" me." He points between the two of you. "What's a- what's going on here?"
"We're having breakfast."
"You're looking a little close for people having breakfast."
"What's it to you?" Asks Theo.
"Something you want to tell your friendly neighborhood FBI Agent?"
You two glance at one another and shrug. "No."
He nods and ventures over to the coffee maker. "I don't buy it."
Some of the other pack members wander into the kitchen.
"Did Stiles find out?"
"Little bit," you tell her, pinching your fingers together, leaving a bit of space between your thumb and index finger.
"I don't get it."
"He's about to figure it out," Liam tells the were-coyote.
"Oh."
"Wait- you guys know they're dating?!" Stiles screeches.
"Uh," Malia, Liam, and Brett make the same noise.
"No?" Scott chimes in.
"Oh, please. It was painfully obvious from the start."
"How did you get in?" The true alpha asks Peter.
"When I got here," Derek adds.
"When did you get in?" Stiles asks.
"A few minutes ago."
"Is everyone here?" Malia asks.
"Now, we are," Lydia interrupts.
"Great. How many of you knew these two were dating?"
Everyone raises their hands, except for Liam.
"Okay, I'm not the only one."
"I was the one who got them together."
"Oh, great so everyone knew before me."
"Guess so," you shrug.
"Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"We knew you'd judge."
He scoffs, "I wouldn’t-"
"I asked you a hypothetical question and asked how you would feel if I was dating someone from the pack."
"Uh huh... and?"
"You said rip the band aid off and I said Theo. You told me to put the band aid back on and pretended I didn’t say anything after that."
"And your point is?"
"You didn’t want to accept it therefore I didn't actually tell you."
"I can- I can accept it."
"You can't," Isaac pats his shoulder before pushing him out of the way.
"When did you get into town?"
"This morning."
"Hence the big batch for breakfast," you answer.
"You knew he was coming?"
"Of course, I did. I picked him up."
"I did," Theo corrects you.
"It was a team effort, sweetheart." You pat his knee.
"Ew. Please, I'm trying to enjoy my coffee."
"Like you need something else to get you all jittery," you tell the human.
He sarcastically laughs in return.

can you fall in love after a single kiss?
ship: stiles/derek prompt: crisp air characters: erica, scott, isaac, danny, jackson, allison mention, boyd mention cw: drinking tags: college au, fluff word count: 2.6k ao3 ♞♚♞♚
"Ahhhh," Stiles says, as he steps out into the crisp fall air. He looks over at Erica. "Do you feel that?"
"Hm?" she says, looking up from her phone. "What's that?"
"The air! Fall has begun!" Stiles exclaims. He nudges her. "C'mon, why aren't you enjoying this?"
"Because," Erica says, looking back down at her phone as they walk down the path towards the parking lot. "I've got a lot going on at the moment."
"Mhm, it's that guy, isn't it?" Stiles asks, trying to peek at her screen. She hides it from him with a pointed expression.
"None of your business," she answers.
"Ugh. Well, will I at least see you at Danny's party?" Stiles shoves his hand into his pocket, searching for his Jeep keys. Erica doesn't answer by the time he's pulled out the bi flag lanyard, so he pouts. "Ericaaaa, midterms are over. We have to celebrate. Please tell me you're coming to Danny's party."
"What?" she asks, looking up at him. "Oh. Danny's party. Yes. I'll be there."
"Will he be there?" Stiles asks, wiggling his eyebrows.
Erica's face flushes in a way he's never seen before. She shrugs. "Maybe."
"I can't wait to meet the mystery man, then."
"He's not a mystery man. He's just a guy I met at the library." Erica bites her bottom lip when they reach his Jeep and are about to say goodbye. He doesn't rush to open the door.
"What is it?"
"I think... oh my god, I can't believe I'm even thinking this, let alone saying this... but..."
"Spit it out already," Stiles says, shaking with impatience. He should've taken his Adderall today, but definitely forgot. He likes to pretend he does better studying without it, but his most recent midterm would prove otherwise.
Erica ducks her head. "I think he's, like, the one."
"What," Stiles blurts. He doesn't mean to, really, but he's never ever heard Erica talk like this and they've been best friends since kindergarten. Stiles waits until she lifts her head up again before he asks, "Are you possessed?"
She shakes her head.
Stiles blinks. "Holy shit, Erica! That's huge. I never thought you'd settle down for a boyfriend, let alone the one."
Erica lets out a soft laugh. "Yeah, me neither. I don't know what it is about him, Stiles, but he gets me."
"Does he...?"
"Know I'm trans? Yeah," Erica says, nodding. "I know. It's strange, isn't it? I don't think I've ever been on a second date before."
"But this guy?"
"This guy," Erica confirms, a shy smile crossing her lips. "This guy is something else. Listen, I'm going to go shopping before Danny's party. I want to look good. I'll catch up with you later?"
"Sounds good."
"And if you tell anyone what I said--"
He laughs. "As if anyone would believe me."
"True." Erica grins, and bounces away with a skip in her step. Stiles stares after her.
This party is going to be one to remember.
Erica's in love. It's obvious. She just met the guy a week ago, but some things are undeniable.
He smiles to himself as he gets into his Jeep. Maybe, just maybe, the one for him is at the party tonight too.
♞♚♞♚
Stiles shows up a little late, but he meant to be on time. He even set like six alarms to stop his ADHD from getting in the way, but alas, it was pointless. He just hopes Danny isn't mad.
"There you are!" Danny's voice comes when Stiles enters the kitchen.
"Hey, sorry." Stiles hands him a bag of ice. "I know, I know. Super late. I'm sorry."
"It's okay, Derek also brought ice."
Stiles jerks his head back. "You asked Derek to bring you ice too?"
"I did," Danny says. "Figured you'd be late. I've known you since high school, remember?"
"Yeah, yeah," Stiles says, rolling his eyes. "I just can't believe you asked Mr. Grumpy Pants to bring ice. It's like asking a bear to step out of their cave while they're hibernating."
"Ha, ha," a sarcastic, dry tone comes from behind him.
Stiles jumps and whips around to see Derek freaking Hale standing behind him. He groans. "Are you everywhere? I swear, you have the hearing of a bat."
Derek tilts his head. "You shouldn't be that surprised to see me. I am Danny's roommate."
"Mhm," Stiles says. "Don't remind me."
Stiles and Derek haven't gotten along since first semester of first year. The guy has been nothing but rude and grumpy to Stiles. His theory is that Derek's in love with Danny, especially because his attitude just got worse after he learned that Stiles and Danny used to hook up in high school.
But Danny's been dating Jackson pretty much since they started college, so Stiles doesn't get why Derek's not over him yet.
"Alright, I'm off to find Scott and Isaac!" Stiles announces, before muttering, "'Cause I can't stand to be around you anymore."
Derek snorts. "Like I want to be around you either."
"Can't we be nice for one night?" Danny pleads, but Stiles just tosses his hand in the air and walks towards the living room.
Erica's talking to a very handsome guy in the corner, and she's twirling her hair. He freezes, watching them. He's never seen her twirl her hair before. Ever. But there she is, giggling, and looking up at this guy with the biggest heart-eyes he's ever seen.
"Oh my god, I can't believe it," Isaac says, suddenly appearing at Stiles' side. Scott joins him on the other side. "I've never seen Boyd talk so much to a girl before."
"Yeah, it's a bit weird," Scott says. "Erica's like... usually on the prowl by now."
"Jesus," Stiles mutters. "You make her sound like a cougar."
"Well, you know what I mean. She eats boys up and spits them out. It's her thing," Scott says. "I've never seen her so... infatuated before."
"That's a great word for it, honey," Isaac says, grinning. He shares a look with Scott, and Stiles groans. "What?"
"You two are also disgustingly in love," Stiles mutters. "Everyone seems to be these days!"
"Calm down," Scott says, but he's still got a moony look towards Isaac on his face. "You'll find the right person soon."
"Uh-huh." Stiles sighs. "I'm going to find Lydia. You two are making me nauseated."
He doesn't wait for them to protest, but heads out to the balcony. He smiles when he finds Lydia alone. She takes a long sip of her drink before looking at him.
"Nice night out, huh?" Stiles asks.
"Yeah." Lydia sighs. "I wish Ally was here tonight."
"Why isn't she?" Stiles asks, glancing back through the windows as if he might magically spot her.
"She went home to visit her parents."
"Are you two...?"
"Yeah," Lydia admits. "We're keeping it on the downlow for now. I mean, her breakup with Kira is still pretty fresh. But..."
"Damn." Stiles rubs his face. "Everyone seems to be in a relationship these days."
Lydia pats his shoulder. "I'm sorry, darling. You'll find someone. I just know it."
"Yeah. That's what they keep telling me." Stiles sighs.
Lydia finishes her drink and then says, "I'm going back inside. You coming?"
"I think I'll stay out here for now." Stiles doesn't care if he shivers. Nothing is going to make him go back inside now.
Erica has Boyd. Danny's with Jackson. Scott and Isaac have been dating for almost a year. Now Lydia and Allison? When is it going to be his turn?
Stiles stretches his neck before leaning over the edge of the balcony. He's looking into a parking lot, and it's not very exciting, but he can sort of see the city lights from here, and that's nice. He guesses.
He's not drunk enough for this.
Maybe he should ditch the party, curl up, and watch Disney Plus. Anything would be better than this. Being alone. Again. As always.
"Room for one more out here?"
Stiles freezes at the sound of Derek's voice before turning. "What do you want?"
"Thought maybe we could talk." Derek shuts the door gently behind him. "What do you say?"
"Whatever," Stiles mutters.
"What's your problem with me?" Derek asks, as if he doesn't already know. Stiles glances at him again but can't stare too long because his heart has started to pound.
He's never actually been alone with Derek before.
"Like you don't know," Stiles mutters.
"I don't," Derek says, flatly.
"You've been nothing but rude to me, and you only got ruder once you learned about my history with Danny."
Derek blinks. "What are you talking about?"
"Sure. Play dumb." Stiles rolls his eyes. He turns to face Derek now, surprised at how close they are together. It's not a huge balcony, but it's not that small either.
Derek looks down at Stiles, just slightly, and asks, "Talk to me like I'm dumb."
"Fine." Stiles lifts his head and bites his lip. Derek's eyes are unwavering on his. "You are the rudest person I have ever met. You totally changed your vibe around me after the news about Danny and I came out. You were stiffer, and not in like, a fun way. You wouldn't look me in the eyes. You just... grunted. A lot. Danny was my first. I was his first. It was all very sweet, but just because you're in love with Danny, doesn't mean you have like... claim on him. He's his own person. And he chose Jackson. So, I don't get why you're such an asshole to me."
Stiles is shaking now, but he doesn't care.
The crisp fall air has turned cold.
And then...
Derek kisses him.
Stiles would jerk back if he had the ability to think. But Derek's lips are hot against his, and suddenly, Stiles is grabbing onto Derek's sweater, and holding him there.
He'd be lying if he said this hadn't popped into his mind before. But he never thought... never in a million years imagined... never...
Derek pulls away, but not far.
His voice is soft but gruff when he says, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Then he turns on his heels and walks back into the party. As if he hadn't just given Stiles the best kiss of his life.
"What the fuck?" Stiles whispers, bringing his shaking fingers up to his lips.
He doesn't know what to make of that, so he stays out on the balcony until it's too cold, and then when he goes back into the party, Derek's already gone.
♞♚♞♚
He can't stop thinking about it. He might actually understand Erica's obsession with her phone and Boyd now. Stiles waits. He waits for some sort of flicker of hope that maybe Derek kissing him was real. That maybe it wasn't a fluke.
But no notifications ever come. No Instagram follow. No accidental Tweet like. Not even a Facebook friend request.
Stiles hates it.
♞♚♞♚
"Hey darling, I'm sorry, but I have to bail on our shopping trip today," Lydia tells him on the phone a few days later. "Allison had a rough time at home, and came back to campus early. I'm going to go over to hers, is that okay?"
"Yeah, of course," Stiles says, absentmindedly.
"Okay, thank you!" Lydia sends kisses through the phone and hangs up.
It takes him a minute to realize they've said goodbye and she's gone.
He's busy staring at Danny's messages in Whatsapp and debating on what to say.
Nothing sounds right.
hey your dumb roommate kissed me
hey can you fall in love after a single kiss
hey I was wondering if I could come over?
The last one, he sends.
Danny gives him a thumbs-up and Stiles makes his way over. He hesitates at the door, but it swings open and Jackson stands there.
"Jesus!" Jackson says. "You almost gave me a heart attack, Stilinski. What are you doing here?"
"Uhhh."
"We're going to hang out and play some video games!" Danny's voice comes from somewhere in the apartment.
"That," Stiles says.
"Alright," Jackson replies, shaking his head. "Just, like, knock next time." He pauses to call back to Danny. "Love you!"
"Love you too!" Danny shouts.
Jackson heads out and leaves the door open for Stiles. He slowly inches his way into the apartment and shuts the door behind him.
"Is, uh, Derek here?" Stiles asks.
"Huh?" Danny says, coming into the living room. He wears a bright smile. "No, no. He hasn't been around all week. Studying for some big test he has next week, I guess. The apartment's all ours."
"Where's Jackson going?"
"Oh, his dad's in town, so they're having dinner."
Danny gives Stiles a quick hug. "C'mon, let's play."
"Sure."
It's reasonable of Danny to assume Stiles wants to play a video game, but all he wants to do right now is ask about Derek. He shoves his questions deep down though.
At least, until he can't hold it in any longer. They're three hours deep into the newest game Danny bought and Stiles blurts, "Why would Derek kiss me?"
Danny freezes, pauses the game, and turns to look at Stiles. "He did what now?"
"He kissed me. At your party. On that balcony. Last week." Stiles breathes. He's finally told someone else and it feels good. "Why... why would he do that?"
"I... I honestly don't know," Danny says, slowly. His eyebrows come together. "Although, now that I think about it, he does ask about you sometimes."
"He does?" Stiles asks, hating how hopeful he sounds.
"Yeah. Like he asked if I had heard from you after the party," Danny explains. "I thought it was a little weird, but... Derek's kind of weird, y'know? Keeps to himself a lot."
"Right." Stiles bites his lip. "Okay, you know what, let's not talk about it anymore. Pretend it never happened."
Because that's what Derek's doing.
"Sure thing," Danny says, and hits play on the game. Stiles is almost instantly killed.
♞♚♞♚
Stiles is walking to class with Erica through the courtyard when he finally sees Derek for the first time since the party.
"Hey, I'm not feeling well suddenly." Stiles puts a hand over his stomach. "Dairy issues."
Erica scrunches her nose. "Gross, Stiles. You really don't need to tell me that every time. And also, stop eating dairy!"
Normally, he'd laugh, but he's too tense. "Catch you back at home?"
"Sure. Feel better," Erica says, kissing him on the cheek.
Stiles waits until she's in the building and out of sight before he crosses the courtyard. His heart pounds so loud he can hear it. He's losing his nerve the closer he gets, but he doesn't stop.
"You kissed me."
Derek swings his head up from his textbook. He meets Stiles' eyes and calmly says, "Yes."
"Why?" Stiles asks, slipping into the picnic table bench. "Because I've been thinking and thinking and nothing makes sense except--"
"I have a crush on you." Derek says it so clear-as-day, it almost shakes Stiles' core.
"But why?"
Derek swallows before answering. He keeps his voice low. "Because you are so unafraid to be yourself. Because you clearly care about our mutual friends. Because you show up with ice even when you're an hour late. Because you're loud and obnoxious and funny and a smart ass. Because you don't care that my parents are rich and my dad's the dean of our school. You treat me the exact same way. You don't tiptoe around me or ask me for favours or try to get in good with me to get in with my dad."
Stiles blinks. He's positive that at some point Danny told him about Derek's parents, but he didn't realize that people... did that to Derek because of them. He swallows.
"I... I see."
"Does that answer your question?" Derek asks.
"Yes. But I have one more."
Derek simply stares at him.
Stiles musters up all his courage and says, "Can we do it again?"

Scolding them for doing something stupid, wondering “why did I have to fall for you” and not realizing that you just said that out loud
send in a prompt / masterlist
"Can we please not act as bait for the suicidal werewolves?" You spoke, your face showing how dumbfounded were as you looked at him.
From the corner of the room, you saw Scott sitting on the edge of Stiles' bed. Over the last few weeks, there had been a new pack that had arrived at Beacon Hills and was making it more than obvious they wanted to cause nothing but trouble. From attacking citizens and even causing a few of the pack members to dance on the brink of death, it was coming to the point where you all had to step in.
"I mean do you have any suggestions?" Stiles asked, "We have to draw them out."
"Anything other than sacrificing ourselves!" You screamed, letting out a groan before closing your eyes, "When has that ever worked for us in the past?"
"We're all alive aren't we?" Stiles shrugged his shoulders.
"Oh my god,"
"Stiles, I agree with Y/N...let's think of something else this time," Scott spoke
"Thank you, Scott, the voice of reason per usual." You shook your head and looked and thought to yourself, “Why did I have to fall for you, and not Scott."
Except you didn't think that you mutter it low beneath your breath.
Stiles' eyes widened in shock as he stared at you and the room began to tense. A deep set of confusion came over your face as you looked between your two friends. Scott had a smile he was trying to hide, but Stiles' face was in complete shock.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" You asked
"W-What did you just say?" Stiles asked, taking a few small steps towards you.
"That Scott was the voice of reason?"
"No, no...after that...you said something." Stiles rushed out. Scott took that as a moment to leave, giving the two of you some privacy.
But he also couldn't stop smiling hoping now would be the moment his two best friends would finally admit their feelings for each other.
You stared at him for a moment not understanding what Stiles was trying to say, till it finally dawned on you. Your eyes went wide as you came to the realization that you'd said your confession out loud.
"Fuck, no...no, no" You shook your head and cringed slightly, "Please tell me you didn't hear anything...please..."
Stiles moved closer to you and gently caressed your face, directing you to look up should see the panic clear in your eyes. But when you looked at him, and his softened features, all you felt was love. It made butterflies erupt in your belly as you felt his warm touch caress your face.
"Please, tell that I heard you correctly, t-that you..." Stiles laughed lightly. "Do you have feelings for me?"
You felt hot suddenly, "I-I...yes...I-I do..."
A large smile spread across his face before he moved quickly and bent down to kiss you deeply. He left you breathless for a moment before your lips moved against his. You'd dreamed of kissing Stiles and always trying to imagine what it would be like. But never did you expect it to be like this. For his lips to feel so perfect against yours.
The two of you only pulled apart as the need for air became too much. But the two of you didn't separate you too much, with his forehead pressing against yours.
"I have waited years to finally hear you say that," Stiles smiled, his hands moving down to wrap around you.
"With that kiss...I'm guessing you feel the same?" You laughed lightly
"Of course, I do baby. Been in love with you since the fifth grade"
Stiles bent down and kiss you again, a little softer this time, before pulling back.
"Now we really gotta come up with a better plan," You whispered "Cause the one you came up with was shit..."
Stiles faked insult as he looked down at you, "What? That was a good plan."
"No, that was terrible." You shook your head and stepped back out of his arms.

Theo Raeken x Reader
In which you and Theo get captured together without the knowledge of each other.
--------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Theo was grunting against the metal fence, his wrist tied with only the strength of tie-wraps, burning into his skin.
His gaze was blurry, but that didnt stop him from noticing a small figure in the corner, the blood smell hazing but smellable.
There you sat, blood drippling down your forehead and your skin basically ripping apart.
Your entire body hurts, to the point that even swallowing hurts. You have no idea what happened to you to get in this bad of a state or how there's suddenly a very attractive guy hanging against a fence, with his eyes glued to your damaged body.
Theo didn't say anything tho, and maybe he didn't even get a chance to because a guy with a taser strongly gripped in his hand came crashing through the thick metal doors, the door slamming shut behind him with a hard sound.
The worried expression Theo had towards you was turned into a cold deadly stare, this time being thrown at the guy in front of him, who had this goddamn smirk on his face.
you knew he just liked to torture people and based on the look on the boy's face he knew it too, maybe even about to feel it.
Theo growled to the man as the man patiently took his time to throw water over the now impatient boy, sewed to a metal fence he can't get out of.
You could take this as the opportunity to get up, sneak away and never return. But deep down you couldn't, not just because some part told you to stay, but because you were too weak to even say anything, let alone break through your tied wrists.
''You surely do enjoy this. Don't you?'' his hair was messy and was hanging partly over his eyes, and you could've sworn he was biting his lip while still showing his teeth. Showing absolutely no fear, no... mercy.
The man was tasering Theo with force, basically slamming the hard metal into his skin, making sure he hits every vein. In the hope, it would make him weaker.
You closed your eyes to not get any sight of it, although you could barely see anything because of your burning headache and the blurry images in front of your sight.
You don't know how long you have been sitting here, in the dark corner with the presence of a boy you surely didn't mind. All you felt was the blood dripping out of your wounds and your breathing slowing down with the minute. You were convinced you were losing a lot of blood.
''They fired you, didn't they? What- Did you get caught sticking needles into helpless patients again?'' you could hear the beeping sound of the taser getting to a higher level as though it was music, but still the boy showed no fear. ''Or did they catch you trying to stick them with something else?'' His body was stiffened against the fence and he was groaning between his uneven breaths and breathless chuckles.
''Looks like-'' You could see a glimpse of the tie-wraps getting orange with the amount of pressure being put on them, a sensing smoke forming past his wrists.
''We got-''
''A winner.'' The tie-wraps broke by the amount of strength and rubbing it got and sprang to the other side of the room.
The boy got off the fence while his eyes lit up, a bright yellow color replacing his cloud-grey ones. Claws came out through his nails with force.
Chimera. Right in front of you.
Theo started to attack the male who was taken aback by the sudden action the boy pulled, and his screams for help caused you to bang your head against the wall, in the hope you would somehow manage to block the noise.
You closed your eyes, now being at your weakest as you felt the presence of someone, now closer to you than before. In fear your adrenaline gave you a boost, which caused you to startle and back away even more, but with no success.
Theo was kneeling down in front of you, holding your small hand into his massive one, black veins coming out through the skin of his arm. You felt the pain releasing as you get lifted off the cold floor.
''I got you, I got you.''
''Lay your head against my chest, okay? but keep your pretty eyes open for me.''

We're back for 2024!
Teen Wolf AU Fest is an open collection prompt fest that will take place over five weeks, starting in the first week of May.
This fest will be similar to fests like Flufftober or Kinktober in that anyone can participate as little or as much as they want. Instead of daily prompts, however, there will be two weekly prompts to choose from. For 2024, these prompts will be beings and places. We're also introducing bonus prompts for genre.
FAQ
This is a low-key, participate as-you-wish fest. You can create something for all five weeks or just for one.
The prompts will be posted weekly through the Tumblr fest blog (@twaufest). At least one of the weekly prompts should be incorporated in the work.
There will be two prompts per week. You can use one or both of them. There will also be a bonus genre prompt, if you wish to also include that.
You can create one work using just one of the weekly prompts, or create one work with both prompts, or create two works using one prompts for each work.
All ships are welcome (or lack thereof).
All types of transformative fanworks are welcome.
Your work can be shared in the AO3 collection (twaufest24) and/or on Tumblr by tagging @twaufest.
Rules
AU works only. Since this is an AU fest, all works must be AUs. They can be human-AUs, supernatural AUs, or any other type of AU. But they cannot be fully canon or just canon divergent.
Tag your works. Fics must be tagged appropriately. Please tag for major content warnings and other common warnings/triggers.
At least one of the weekly prompts must be used in your work for that week.
Late submissions are accepted while the fest is ongoing. The collection will close a week or two after the fest is over for the year. If I run this fest again next year, I’ll reopen the collection at that time.
If you are participating as a reader, please practice good fandom etiquette. If you don’t like a work or a particular ship, don’t read it or use the back button. All TW ships and all types of transformative fandom works are welcome.
2024 Teen Wolf AU Prompts
For 2024, the prompts will be beings/places. There will also be a bonus genre each week, if you should so choose to use it.
Week 1: Dragons and/or Resort (Bonus Genre: Thriller)
Week 2: Ancient Gods and/or Yarn Shop (Bonus Genre: Cozy)
Week 3: Gnomes and/or Grocery Store (Bonus Genre: Mystery)
Week 4: Superheroes and/or Car Wash (Bonus Genre: Bodice Ripper)
Week 5: Aliens and/or An Office (Bonus Genre: Comedy)
Your mods this year are @manixzen, @kellerific-writing, and @paxere. Feel free to drop us any questions in the Tumblr ask box!

𝑱𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 : 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑶𝒏𝒆

Ch.2
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski x fem!Reader
Word count: 9.3k
a/n: I started writing this in November of 2020 on Wattpad and finished a few years later, and although it's kind of old now it's still one of my favorite things I have written so far. I wanted to give it a bit of new life here on Tumblr. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I had writing it. There were about 90 chapters so wish me luck on this massive, and probably slow, migration 😅
Tumblr media
A teenage girl sits cross legged in the middle of her bed dressed in pajamas. A book is held up in front of her. The cover of black leather has no title but the Triple Moon is embossed vertically in the middle, a moonstone sewn into the middle moon. Her head moves slightly as she reads and she mutters the words under her breath. She suddenly looks towards her window, a flash of purple is reflected when her eyes meet themselves in the glass before she blinks and they're back to their original color. She tilts her head a bit as if listening for something and squints her eyes before she gets up. The book closes and plops down onto the covers in front of her as she gets up, her hands unfolding from their place in her lap.
She pauses a few steps from her window with a sigh and a roll of her eyes. She takes the last few steps and quickly pulls open the window, sticking her head out and startling the brunette boy currently scaling the trellis on the side of the house. "What are you doing, Stiles?" She asked once he regained his hold on the structure.
"God! Y/n! You nearly scared me to death! How did you know I was here?" He asked, slightly out of breath from the combination of climbing the side of her house and getting a scare.
She shrugged a shoulder. "I heard you."
"How?! I was super careful not to make a sound. Also why weren't you answering your phone?"
"Not careful enough, apparently. And I was busy reading. I didn't want to be disturbed. Now, again, what are you doing, Stiles?"
"I saw my dad leave like 40 minutes ago. Dispatch called, everyone from the Beacon Department and even State Police were called in because two joggers found a body in the woods."
"No."
"No? What do you mean no?"
"I mean no. School starts tomorrow and I don't want to spend my last night of summer traipsing through the woods looking for a body."
"Half body." He corrected.
"Let me rephrase. I don't want to spend my last night of summer traipsing through the woods looking for a half body. Go drag Scott out of bed and make him go with you."
"Uh, he already did." Scott's voice drifted up to the two and Y/n looked past Stiles to see Scott giving her a sheepish grin.
She gave him an unimpressed look before leveling it on Stiles. "There's no way I'm gonna get you to leave me alone tonight, is there?"
"Nope." He grinned at her when she rolled her eyes and sighed.
"Fine." She pulled her head back in her room and stalked over to her closet.
"What are you doing?" She glanced behind her to see Stiles now haphazardly hanging onto her window sill.
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm putting on some clothes. I don't want to go out, but I don't want to go without proper clothing more. Now, you can either watch me change or get off my window, but choose wisely."
He flushed a bit as he started to stammer. "Uh-um- I'm uh- I'm gonna go. Down there. With Scott."
"Good choice." She squinted her eyes at him with a sarcastic smile. Once he was out of sight and on the ground with a quiet 'thump' she shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Idiot." She mumbled under her breath but still couldn't help the small smile that crept onto her lips. She hurried and got dressed in a sweater and some pants before climbing onto her window sill and down the trellis, leaving her window ajar for when she came back. When she was on solid ground she made her way to the blue Jeep that she has come to associate as purely Stiles.
Stiles comes to a stop in front of a sign labeled Beacon Hills Preserve No Entry After Dark. All three teens hop out of the Jeep, Stiles holds a flashlight. "We're seriously doing this?" Scott asked with worry in his tone.
"You're the one who's always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town." Stiles shot back with a pat on Scott's shoulder when he passed. Y/n comes up next to Scott with a sigh.
"He's kinda got you there, Scotty." She also pats his shoulder before reluctantly following behind the overly excited boy.
"I was trying to get a good night's sleep before practice tomorrow." Scott also reluctantly followed.
"Right, 'cause sitting on the bench is such a grueling effort." Stiles retorted from five steps ahead of them.
"Hey, be nice Stilinski. Scott's trying to play this year."
"I will play this year." Scott corrected. "In fact, I'm making first line."
"Hey, that's the spirit." Y/n smiled at Scott with a nudge that he returned with a smile of his own.
"Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one." Stiles said.
"Like chasing after Lydia Martin." Y/n mumbled under her breath.
"What was that?" Stiles couldn't hear her over the crunching of leaves and Scott's scoff.
"I said 'how much can these woods darken?'' Stiles threw a questioning glance over his shoulder at Y/n's innocent expression. He then looked at Scott, but the shaggy haired boy just shrugged. Stiles shook his head and continued looking forward as Y/n smirked to herself.
"Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" Scott asked.
Stiles slowed in his walking for a moment. "Huh! I didn't even think about that." He chuckled.
"I've got a question too." Y/n said with a finger raised slightly in the air. "What if whoever killed this person is still out here?"
"Also something I didn't think about."
"Of course you didn't." Y/n shook her head.
"It's... comforting to know you've planned this out with your usual attention to detail." Scott joked as they climbed up a steep incline making him start to breathe a bit harder.
"I know."
"Maybe the severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight, huh?" Scott leaned against a tree and pulled out his inhaler. Y/n stopped with him as Stiles kept going.
"You good, Scott?" She asked, concerned.
He simply nodded as he shook the inhaler and waved her on. She took a few steps still looking at him before facing forward as he continued to walk with her. Stiles stumbles to the ground to lay on his stomach, Y/n following more gracefully with Scott falling beside her like Stiles had. Scott wheezes as they watch several flashlight beams scan the area, the figures holding them looking for any sign of the other half of the body.
"Okay, come on!" Stiles suddenly jumps up and runs in the direction of the other people.
"Stiles!" Scott calls but he doesn't answer.
Y/n groans. "I'll go after him." Y/n also jumps up and starts running after him.
Scott takes a puff of his inhaler before he also follows. "Wait up!" The three run through the woods, Y/n whisper yelling at Stiles at how much of an idiot he's being. "Stiles!" Scott also tries to whisper yell at the boy.
"Stiles, stop!" Y/n's forceful tone finally gets him to slow to a walk, looking behind him for his friends. Y/n catches up just as a dog barks at him, scaring him into falling back, which happened to be right into Y/n, sending both teens to the ground.
"Hold it right there!" An officer yells, the dog still barking as lights are shined on the two.
"Hang on, hang on!" Another voice calls over the ruckus. "This little delinquent belongs to me."
"Get off me, you oaf! You're crushing my ribs." Y/n groans with effort as she pushes Stiles off while he tries desperately to get up.
"Dad, how are you doing?" Stiles greets his father once he manages to stop crushing his friend.
"Y/n." Noah Stilinski greets.
"Hello Sheriff." She gives an innocent smile as she stands.
"Does he know you're out here?" Y/n didn't need him to name anyone to know who he was talking about.
"Would you believe me if I said yes?" He just looked at her and she looked away. "Yeah, thought not."
"So, do you, uh, listen in to all of my phone calls?" He then asks Stiles.
"No, heh." Stiles tries to deny, but then, "Well, not the boring ones." Y/n shakes her head.
"Now, where's your usual partner in crime?"
"Who, Scott?"
"No, the Gingerbread Man. Yes, he means Scott!" Y/n sasses before she gives the Sheriff a polite smile. "Scott's not with us, right now. He said he wanted to get a good night's rest for tomorrow's practice and he didn't want to come." What she said wasn't a lie, Scott wasn't with them because he trailed behind and he had said those words earlier.
Stiles nodded in agreement with what she had said. "It's just us. In the woods. Alone."
She gave him a short jab in the side with her elbow and a look that said shut up. Noah raises his flashlight and scans the surrounding trees. "Scott, you out there? Scott?" He calls but gets no answer. He sighs and lowers the light. "Well, young man, I'm gonna walk you back to your car. And you and I are gonna have a conversation about something called invasion of privacy." He grabs the scruff of Stiles' clothes and pulls him along, glancing back at Y/n. "And you, missy, I'm gonna give you a ride back home."
"Yes, sir. That sounds great actually." She takes one more look out at the trees with a small frown before following the Stilinski's.
After Noah made sure Stiles got in his car and drove away, he led Y/n to his car where she got in the front seat. Thunder crashes in the distance as she stares out of the front window, a worried look on her face. Rain gently patters against the road. She fidgets in her seat, an uneasy feeling in her gut. Her head whips towards the passenger window as she faintly hears a distant howl, the feeling getting just a bit worse.
When Noah pulls in front of Y/n's home she winces at the sight of Alan Deaton on the porch and sighs. "Thanks for the ride, Sheriff." Y/n glumly says as she unbuckles.
"No problem." He waves goodbye when she gets out and she watches him leave, prolonging the time before she has to face her guardian.
"Y/n." He says in his normal cool tone.
She slowly turns to look at him. "Yes, Alan?"
"Why did I get a call saying that you were wandering around in the woods in the middle of the night?"
"Because I was." She responded plainly.
"Why?"
"Stiles, being Stiles, listened in on the Sheriff's phone call and he heard about a dead body being found, but it was only half, and there was a search party for the other half and Stiles wanted to be the one to find it. He dragged Scott out too, and what kind of a best friend would I be if I had let them go by themselves? But now what kind of best friend am I that I left one of them in the woods after we were caught." She frowned.
"Who?"
"Scott. The Sheriff didn't see him because he hid behind a tree."
"And you know that how?"
"I heard him."
"I see." He nods in understanding. "I'm sure he'll be fine. Scott's a strong boy, he'll be okay. Come on, let's get inside. School starts tomorrow."
"Yeah." She mumbled. He held his arms out and she obliged by hugging him. He pulls away but still keeps an arm over her shoulder. Just before she steps inside she looks over her shoulder, back to the woods.
"What's wrong?"
She shakes her head a bit, a frown still tugging at her lips. "I don't know. Just a feeling." She sighs as she turns away and follows him into the house.
Y/n rides into the parking lot of Beacon Hills High School on her bike. She balances on one foot as she smoothly glides up to the bike rack, using her other foot as a brake once she's close enough. She notices Scott's bike and Jackson's Porsche as she's fixing up her bike lock. "Oh, yay, I'm parked next to him." She mutters sarcastically. She turns to face the school, fixing her bag on her shoulder, and takes a deep breath. "First day back to school. What a joy." With one more breath she makes her way to the front doors. She scans the crowd and spots Scott and Stiles, the former holding up his shirt to expose his side. Y/n squints and catches a red splotch on the gauze he has taped there before he puts it down and the two continue walking. She picks up her pace and jogs to the two, catching up when they stop again and she can clearly hear what they're saying.
"All right, well, if you don't believe me about the wolf, then you're definitely not gonna believe me about when I tell you I found the body." Scott's tone lowered with the last few words he spoke.
"What's this about a wolf?" Y/n asked once she stood next to the two, her curiosity piqued.
"Did you not just hear him about the body? Are you kidding me?" Stiles directed the last at Scott.
"No, I wish. I'm gonna have nightmares for a month."
"Oh, God, that is freakin' awesome."
"Yeah, awesome. You saw a wolf?" Y/n looked at Scott in question.
"No, but I heard one howling."
Y/n's brow furrowed a bit in worry but her thoughts are cut off by Stiles groaning out a sigh. "I already said that that was impossible. There are no wolves in California."
"You'd be surprised." She pointed out.
"Look, enough about the wolves. How are you focusing on that more than Scott found the body? I mean, this is seriously gonna be the best thing that's happened to this town since..." He trailed off as he spotted a particular strawberry blonde head. "Since the birth of Lydia Martin. Hey, Lydia... You look..." Lydia passes without a glance at Stiles but a small wave in greeting towards Y/n who returns the gesture. "Like you're gonna ignore me." Stiles sighs and looks at Scott. "You're the cause of this, you know?"
"Uh-huh." Scott 'agrees' with a smile.
"Draggin' me down to your nerd depths."
"Uh-huh." The three continue walking as the bell rings.
"I'm a nerd by association. I've been Scarlet Nerded by you. At least you haven't tarnished Y/n with your nerdy influence. How are you friends with Lydia, by the way? How did you get in there?" He rounds on Y/n.
She scoffs. "There's no 'in' to get to. We just so happen to be very best friends."
"I thought we were your best friends?" Scott points between himself and Stiles.
"You are, Scotty, don't worry." She pats his shoulder. "You're my guy best friends and she's my girl best friend."
"You think you could put in a good word for me so I can be her guy best friend?" Stiles asks with a hopeful tone.
"No." She shoots down immediately, giving a playful coo when he pouts and she lightly pinches his cheek. He bats her hand away with a laugh and the trio continue down the halls.
...
"As you all know, there indeed was a body found in the woods last night." Mr. Curtis informs as he writes on the white board. Scott shares a knowing smile with Y/n and Stiles, the h/c in the seat next to him with Stiles right behind her. "And I am sure your eager little minds are coming up with various macabre scenarios as to what happened. But I am here to tell you that the police have a suspect in custody," Mr. Curtiss turns to face the class, Scott throws a questioning look at Stiles who shrugs, "which means you can give your undivided attention to the syllabus which is on your desk outlining this semester."
Y/n picks up the paper to skim it over, barely glancing out the window when she heard the cell ringing outside. She sees a pretty brunette girl on the bench outside that she doesn't recognize yet doesn't really give it another thought. She looks back to her paper, but her eyes are drawn to movement beside her. She glances over and sees Scott looking around before rubbing his ear in confusion. She narrows her eyes at his actions and keeps watching him as his focus is drawn out the window and his eyes slowly sweep across the room until they stop at the door. A moment later the Vice Principal walks in with the brunette girl behind him.
"Class, this is our new student, Allison Argent. Please do your best to make her feel welcome." The VP leaves and the girl, Allison, moves to sit in the empty seat behind Scott. Y/n watches as Scott grabs one of his pens and turns to give it to Allison.
A confused look flashes across her face before it lights up with a smile. "Thanks."
"We'll begin with Kafka's Metamorphosis, on page 133." The teacher started speaking again as they looked at each other for a minute before Scott turned around. Y/n raised a brow at the exchange and caught Allison's confused look return. With one more glance at Scott Y/n turns back to her own papers, noting to herself to watch Scott a bit more closely.
...
The bell rings and students flood the halls. Scott fiddles with his locker's lock and glances down the hall spotting Allison. She looks over at him and smiles. He just blinks at her in a slight daze as Y/n comes up behind him. "Hey, Scott."
He turns to her. "Oh, hey, Y/n."
"I was meaning to ask, I saw you had a bandage on your side as I was catching up to you guys? What happened? Are you okay?" She asked in concern and he gave her an easy going smile.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Stiles doesn't believe me but I think a wolf bit me. It was dark and I couldn't see well but I heard a wolf howl."
"You're sure?"
"Pretty sure."
"Can I see? The bite I mean?"
"Yeah, sure." He glanced around before he lifted his shirt enough for her to see. She carefully pulled the top part of the bandage away and he winced. Quickly, but carefully, she put the bandage back and he let his shirt fall.
"Yeah, that's uh... That's some bite." Stiles came around to Scott's other side at that point and she tuned out their conversation as her mind swam with the new information and worry. She only snapped out of her head when Lydia called her name from down the hall. She was standing next to Allison and waving Y/n over. "I'll see you guys later." She said to the boys before she made her way over to Lydia and the new girl.
"Allison, this is my best friend, Y/n. Y/n, this is Allison." Lydia introduced.
"Nice to meet you." Y/n held her hand out which Allison took.
"You, too." Allison gives her a kind smile.
Jackson sidles up beside Lydia with an arm thrown around her. "Hey." She greets and gives him a kiss. Jackson spots Y/n and rolls his eyes.
"Y/n." He says in obligatory greeting.
"Jackson." She says boredly. The two proceed to ignore each other as they talk to Allison.
Across the hall Scott and Stiles watch the exchange as another girl stops beside them at the sight of the four. "Can someone tell me how new girl is here all of five minutes, and she's already hanging out with Lydia's clique?" The girl questions the two boys.
"Because she's hot." Stiles answers.
"Does that mean you think Y/n's hot?" Scott smirks at him.
"What?" Stiles looks at him almost offended. "I'm just saying beautiful people herd together."
"You just called Y/n beautiful." Scott's smile got wider as Stiles glared at him.
"Your point is?"
Scott shook his head. "Nothing. Nothing."
"I'm just stating facts. Y/n is obviously pretty hence why she's with Lydia and the new girl."
"I'm not saying anything." Stiles rolled his eyes as Scott just smiled at him and turned to the girl they were talking to. Scott's smile slowly fell as he looked back over at the four. His ears were able to pick up the conversation taking place across the hall.
"So, this weekend, there's a party." Lydia hints to Allison.
"A party?" The brunette questions.
"Yeah, Friday night." Jackson informs. "You should come."
"Uh, I can't. It's Family Night this Friday. Thanks for asking."
"You sure? I mean, everyone's going after the scrimmage. Even Hermit over there is going." Jackson gestured towards Y/n and she gave him a sarcastic laugh with squinted eyes.
"You mean like football?"
"Football's a joke in Beacon."
"The sport here is lacrosse." Y/n informed. "It's like... A big thing."
"We've won the State Championship for the past three years."
"Because of a certain Team Captain." Lydia smiled up at Jackson and fixed a piece of his hair.
"Well, we have practice in a few minutes. That is, if you don't have anywhere else-"
"Well, I was going to-"
"Perfect." Lydia cut Allison off. "You're coming." Lydia grabbed Allison's wrist with one hand and Y/n's with the other and started to pull them both along.
"Is she always like this?" Allison whispered to Y/n.
"You get used to it." Y/n shrugged with an unbothered expression.
...
Lydia leads the trio as they make their way to the stands and sit. Y/n spots Scott and Stiles already geared up and on the field. She gives them a wave when they look over although Y/n notices Scott wasn't looking at her but at the brunette next to her making her smirk to herself. Coach Finstock talks to Scott and Y/n sees him hand Scott the gear for goalie. Oof. That's gonna be rough. She thought as Scott takes position in front of the goal.
"Who is that?" Allison asks.
"On goal?" Y/n clarifies and when Allison nods she smiles. "That's Scott. He's one of my best friends." Y/n looked back at Scott to see him already looking in their direction with a tilted head and her smile dissolved into a slight frown. Coach blows the whistle and Scott grips at his head as if someone was shouting at him, Y/n's frown goes a little deeper. Another player throws the ball and it goes right into Scott's mask making him fall flat on his back. Stiles grimaces and Scott gets back up. He braces himself as another player throws the ball again, but this time he caught it.
He looks at it surprised and smiles. The lined up players all look around each other to see what McCall had done. Stiles sits up and yells, "Yeah!" Scott catches ball after ball and Stiles whoops. Y/n watches with raised brows and a disbelieving scoff.
"He seems like he's pretty good." Allison comments.
"Yeah, very good." Lydia agrees.
"Uh oh." Y/n mutters when she sees Jackson skip the line to take his shot at Scott. The air is tense as everyone watches Jackson run up and hurl the ball at Scott. But to everyone's surprise he swiftly catches it. Stiles jumps up, hooting in joy. Y/n stands with Lydia as the strawberry blonde cheers and Y/n cups her hands over her mouth. "GO SCOTT!"
"THAT'S MY FRIEND!" Stiles yells making Y/n laugh. Lydia screams some more cheers and Jackson glares over at her. When he catches her eye she just gives him a what? look and sits back down.
...
"I don't know what it was." Scott leads the way through the woods and across a small stream as his two friends follow him. "It was like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball. And it's not the only weird thing. I can... hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear. Smell things."
"Smell things? Like what?" Stiles questions from behind Scott.
"Like Mint Mojito gum in your pocket. And Y/n smells like flowers."
"I do?" The girl muttered as she pinched her shirt and sniffed it, only smelling her laundry soap and a bit of animal from her time at the Animal Clinic. She then held her wrist up to her nose, focusing on her sense of smell, and there it was. A faint scent of flowers that clung to her skin like a mist. Something she had almost forgotten about because there wasn't anyone who would notice it like her.
The three pause as Stiles rummages through his jacket pockets. "I don't even have any Mint Mojito-" He cuts himself off as he pulls a slightly opened piece of gum from his pocket. Y/n raises a brow as Stiles looks up at Scott who gives him a see? gesture. They continue walking and Stiles shoves the gum back in his pocket. "So all this started with a bite."
"What if it's like an infection, like my body's flooding with adrenaline before I go into shock or something?"
"You know what? I actually think I've heard of this- it's a specific kind of infection."
"Are you serious?" They all stop again, Y/n looking between the two, nervousness flashing through her system as she realizes what Stiles is getting at, albeit jokingly, but this was anything but a joke to her.
"Yeah." Stiles puts his hands on his hips in seriousness. "Yeah, I think it's called Lycanthropy."
"What's that? Is it bad?" Scott worries.
Y/n folded her arms. "He's talking about Werewolfism."
"Yeah! You know, the full moon and the awrooo." Stiles howls. Scott lightly pushes him away and continues walking as Stiles laughs. "Hey, man..." He follows, an unusually quiet Y/n following. "Hey, you're the one who heard a wolf howling."
"Hey, there could be something seriously wrong with me." Scott frets.
"I know! You're a werewolf! Ow!" He rubs his arm from Y/n's sudden attempt to make him shut up. He looks at her in question and she glares at him.
"Don't joke around like that, Stiles." She catches up with Scott. "Ignore him. I'm sure that it's nothing too bad, okay?"
Scott just sighs and Stiles speaks up. "Okay, obviously I'm kidding. But if you see me in shop class trying to melt all the silver I can find, It's 'cause Friday's a full moon." While Scott ignores Stiles, Y/n bites her lip in worry. If it was just a random ordinary wolf, Scott should be fine. But if it wasn't... If it really was what she thinks it was, then things were going to get very complicated very soon.
Scott looks around on the ground but doesn't see anything. "No, I- I could have sworn this was it. I saw the body, the deer came running. I dropped my inhaler." Scott crouches to look through the leaves.
"Maybe the killer moved the body?" Y/n suggests.
"If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are like 80 bucks." Y/n chuckles a bit but when she feels another presence her head shoots up and she spots a broody looking man with dark hair and a black leather jacket. Stiles notices the man a second later and pats Scott to get his attention. Scott looks back and stands up to face the man.
The man starts walking closer to them at a brisk pace making Y/n take a few steps of her own to where she now stood in front of the boys. Used to her protectiveness neither of them give the action a second thought. "What are you doing here? Huh?" The man asks quickly. "This is private property."
"Sorry, we didn't know." Y/n speaks up for them. "We were just looking for something. You wouldn't have happened to see an inhaler around, would you?" Without another word the man pulls something from his pocket and tosses it towards Scott, but Y/n catches it from the air without looking away from him. She tossed the object back to Scott which he sees as his inhaler. After another moment of Y/n and the stranger staring each other down he turned and walked away. Once she was sure he wasn't coming back she turned to see Stiles gaping towards where he left and Scott frowning.
"All right, well, I've gotta get to work." Scott went to leave only to be stopped by Stiles.
"Guys, that was Derek Hale."
"Hale?" Y/n questioned, the name sounding vaguely familiar to her.
"You remember, right?" He asked Scott. "He's only a few years older than us. This was, like, a few years before you moved here, Y/n. His family burned to death in a fire, like, ten years ago."
"That's awful." Y/n frowned.
"I wonder what he's doing back?" Scott mused.
Stiles scoffs and shrugs his shoulders. "Come on." He started to walk away, Y/n and Scott following after one more look towards where Derek Hale disappeared to.
...
Y/n sat at home that night, curled up in the corner of the couch and worrying at her bottom lip. She stared into space as her mind swirled in a mixed mess. It was only the first day back at school and things are already kind of stressful. She didn't notice the other person in the room until the couch sagged next to her. She turned her head to see Alan giving her a concerned look. "Are you alright?"
"I don't know." She said honestly.
"Well, I don't think the wall will be alright if you keep burning a hole through it." She gave him a weak chuckle as she looked at the wall again. "What's bothering you?"
She sighed and shook her head a bit. "It's hard to explain."
"Do your best."
She was quiet while she tried to get her thoughts in order. "The other night, I heard a howl. It was distant but I know what I heard. And now I find out today, Scott heard it too and he swears a wolf bit him." She looked at him again, concern, worry, and a slight bit of fear written on her face. "He's been acting strange too. He's hearing things only I would normally hear, and he's smelling things like my natural scent of flowers. I think that... I'm scared that..." She sighed in frustration. "My thoughts are so jumbled."
He put a comforting hand on her knee. "Tell me what you feel, then, instead of what you think."
She closes her eyes for a moment and when they open, they glow a slight purple before dimming back to e/c. "I feel like he's been bit by an Alpha. He's turning."
Alan's face turns serious. "Well, if your feeling is correct, and I've never known it to be otherwise, then Scott's going to have a tough time ahead of him."
"Tell me about it." She huffed. "What do I do?"
He was quiet for a moment as he thought of what best to advise. "Just be there for him and help him. If he's really been bitten, he's going to need his friends more than ever."
"What if he or Stiles starts asking questions about what I know? I can't tell them about me." She frowned at the thought. She's never had a reason to reveal what she was and when they learn about the supernatural she'd be lying about it.
"They'll be too preoccupied with Scott's new transformation to wonder about it much. For now, at least, don't worry about it."
"I'll try. Thanks... For helping me." She gave him a small smile and hugged him which he returned. "It's what I'm here for." He patted her back and pulled away. He got up and left her to her thoughts again, but this time they weren't as stormy.
...
"Y/n! Y/n!" The girl looked to the spastic boy who was yelling her name across the lacrosse field as she sat on the stands. She squinted her eyes in confusion watching Stiles run like a bat out of hell and got off the stands so that he wouldn't pile-drive people just to get to her.
"Whoa, whoa!" She cried out when he nearly rammed into her and held tightly to her shoulders. "Calm down there, Speedy. What's wrong?"
"Scott was right." He blurted.
"What? Right about what?"
"Scott was right! About a wolf! There was animal hairs on the body, wolf hairs!"
She opened her mouth to speak, but he rushed off as he spotted Scott, which was probably a good thing because she wasn't even sure what she would say. Her feeling is turning out to be more and more correct as the seconds ticked by. As the game started Y/n could only watch in concern and a slight bit of awe as Scott easily skirted around other players and flipped over three other guys blocking his path to take a quick shot. The team gathered around Scott, praising his score and patting him on the shoulders. Coach called Scott over and she listened in, smiling a bit when he put Scott on first line. Maybe being a werewolf wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him. Maybe it'll actually be good. Maybe.
But the pit in her stomach told her that maybe it won't be as good as she hopes. She looked over to Stiles to see him with a worried expression. She went over to him and sat next to him. "What's on your mind?" She nudged his shoulder lightly.
"I think- and I know this sounds crazy- but I think I might have been right. That joke I made the other day. I don't think it's much of a joke anymore. I think Scott is actually a werewolf." He looked at her in worry and all she could do was put a comforting arm around his shoulders.
"Whatever is happening here, we'll get through it. I know it." Stiles didn't answer. Just continued watching Scott in worry.
Later that day Y/n pedaled to a stop in front of Stiles' house, Scott doing the same a minute later. "Hey." She greeted.
"Hey. Do you know what Stiles called us for?" He quizzed.
"Nope." She shook her head. Well, she had a pretty good idea what it was. They both made their way into the house and up to Stiles' room where Scott knocked loudly.
The excitable boy opened the door and sighed in relief when he saw it was his friends who smiled at him. "Get in. You gotta see this thing." Stiles closed the door. "I've been up all night reading- websites, books. All this information."
"How much Adderall have you had today?" Scott asked.
"A lot." Y/n and Scott shared a smile at that. "Doesn't matter. Okay, just listen." Stiles urged.
"Oh, is this about the body? Did they find out who did it?" Scott sat his bag on the bed and sat himself down on the edge, Y/n placing herself next to him.
"No, they're still questioning people, even Derek Hale."
"Oh, the guy in the woods that we saw the other day." Scott realized.
"Yeah! Yes. But that's not it, okay?"
"What, then?"
"Remember the joke from the other day?" Stiles scoffed. "Not a joke anymore." When Scott didn't catch on to what he was saying he elaborated. "The wolf. The bite in the woods. I started doing all this reading. Do you even know why a wolf howls?"
"Should I?"
"It's like a signal." Y/n finally spoke up, both boys turning to face her. "A wolf howls to tell its pack where it is." When they both just stared at her she raised her brows at them. "What? I live with a vet and I like animals."
"Right." Stiles agreed. "So if you heard a wolf howling, that means others could have been nearby. Maybe even a whole pack of 'em."
"A whole pack of wolves?" Scott wondered.
"No... Werewolves." Y/n frowned. This had been exactly what she thought this was about. But, while she was nervous, Scott was unbelieving.
"Are you seriously wasting my time with this?" Scott got up and started to grab his bag. "You know I'm picking up Allison in an hour."
"Scott, maybe you should listen to him."
"Not you, too." Scott looked at Y/n, slightly aggravated.
"He's got a point. I mean, Scott, we saw you on the field today. What you did wasn't just amazing, it was practically miraculous."
"Exactly!" Stiles pointed at her excitedly.
"Yeah, so I made a good shot." Scott brushed it off.
"No, you made an incredible shot, I mean..." Stiles grabbed Scott's bag and put it back on the bed. "The way you moved, your speed, your reflexes. People can't just suddenly do that overnight. And- and there's the vision and the senses, and don't even think I don't notice that you don't need your inhaler anymore."
"Okay!" Scott interrupted. "Dude, I can't think about this now. We'll talk tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?! What? No! The full moon's tonight. Don't you get it?"
"What are you trying to do?" The tension in the room rises and Y/n stands, feeling the spiking emotions. The first moon is sometimes the worst for newer wolves. "I-I just made first line. I got a date with a girl who I can't believe wants to go out with me, and everything in my life is somehow perfect. Why are you trying to ruin it?"
"He's not trying to ruin anything, Scott. He's trying to help you."
"You're cursed, Scott. You know, and it's not just the moon that will cause you to physically change. It also just so happens to be when your bloodlust will be at its peak."
"Bloodlust?"
"It's like an uncontrollable urge to maim and kill." Y/n provided the info again.
"I'm already starting to feel an urge to kill, Y/n." Scott said irritably.
"I'm sure you are." Y/n muttered under her breath.
"You gotta hear this." Stiles continued to rant. He grabbed a book and searched for what he wanted from it. "'The change can be caused by anger or anything that raises your pulse.' All right? I haven't seen anyone raise your pulse like Allison does. You gotta cancel this date. I'm calling her right now." He moved around Scott to his bag and rummaged around for Scott's phone.
"Wait, Stiles. You shouldn't-" Y/n tried to warn but she was cut off by Scott.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm canceling the date." Stiles had finally retrieved the device.
"No, give it to me!" Y/n felt heat flush her body as she felt Scott's anger reach a crescendo making him grab Stiles and shove him against the wall, fist raised and ready to strike.
"Scott, stop!" Y/n yelled forcefully. Scott's fist shook and he yelled as he swiped at Stiles' desk chair making it clatter to the floor.
Scott panted heavily as he looked between Y/n and Stiles. The air was thick as Scott realized what he was going to do. "I'm sorry." No one spoke. "I-I gotta go get ready for that party." He, more calmly, got his bag from the bed and went to the door, pausing to look at his friends again. "I'm sorry." And then he left, closing the door behind him.
Y/n let out a breath to calm herself as Stiles leaned his head back onto the wall and she looked over at him. "Are you okay?" She asked. He didn't answer but nodded his head a bit. Even with his assurance she wanted to assure herself so she went over to him and pulled him into a hug, which he gladly reciprocated. The two teens stood in silence for a moment before he pulled away with a sigh. She raised her brows in question and he nodded at her again.
"I'm good. Thanks." He gave her a small, appreciative smile.
"Anytime." He looked at his fallen chair and went over to it. He crouched down and picked it up, sitting it back on its wheels, but paused in his movements. He looked over his shoulder at Y/n with furrowed brows and moved for her to see. She frowned when she saw the three slash marks that scarred the chair from Scott's hit.
...
Y/n sat in her room and bounced her leg anxiously. The party was soon and she didn't want to go, she wasn't much of a party person unless she was in the mood for it, but tonight was the full moon and so she had to. She had to watch out for Scott. The first change is often the hardest and it'll be no different for him.
She jumped slightly when she heard a honk from outside. She looked out her window and smiled when she spotted the blue Jeep, giving Stiles a wave when he spotted her. She took one more glance in the mirror and flattened out any wrinkles in her clothes before she went downstairs. She spotted Alan on her way and stopped in front of him. "How do I look?" She asked.
He twirled a finger and she obliged by turning for him. When she faced him again he smiled. "Stunning as always." He finally said.
She rolled her eyes but still smiled. "You always say that."
"Because it's always true." He was silent for a moment, a tender look in his eyes. She felt a nostalgic feeling from him as he looked at her but also at something else, something not quite in the same space as them. "You look just like her."
A sad smile graced her features as she looked down and remembered her face. It's been a long time since she last saw her mother in person. Yeah, she has pictures, but it's not quite the same. The camera doesn't quite catch the proud gleam in M/n's eyes when Y/n showed off her growing skills. All she has is the memory that she desperately holds onto. And that's enough for now until she can see her again, one day in the future.
She looked back up at Alan and gave him a sudden hug. He huffed a laugh in amusement but hugged her back. "Thank you." Her voice was soft but he still heard her. He just squeezed her a bit tighter before they both pulled away. "Okay. I should go now. Stiles is waiting."
"Have fun. And be careful." He warned gently.
"I will." She gave him one more smile before she turned and rushed out the door and hopped into the Jeep. "Thanks for giving me a ride."
"No problem. You look really good, by the way." Stiles complimented.
"You don't look so bad yourself." They smiled and he started to drive to the party.
Music pounded through the house as teens danced together, several of them holding red or blue cups. Stiles and Y/n stood in the middle of moving bodies and looked around. "I don't see Scott." Stiles yelled over the noise and looked at her.
She took one more glance around. "He's probably not here yet. Stay in here. I'll keep an eye out for him outside."
"Sounds good." With that Y/n made her way to the backyard where more people were having a good time together. She looked around for her friend, but spotted someone unexpected. Her eyes narrowed as she made her way to the mysterious Hale, his eyes already watching her cautiously.
"I know what you are." She said as soon as she was close enough and folded her arms. "All I wanna know is, are you an Alpha?"
"No, I'm not."
"Show me." He rolled his eyes before they flashed a brilliant blue. She frowned at the color but decided to ignore it for now. "Okay. Then what do you want with Scott?"
"I'm just looking out for him. There are Hunters here."
A rush of fear coursed through her and she nearly stopped breathing. "What?" It came out a little more breathless than she intended, but wouldn't you be breathless too if you were presented with one of your biggest fears?
He didn't say anything else as his eyes were drawn behind her. She looked over her shoulder to see Scott had arrived with Allison. Scott spotted them, looking between his friend and the stranger as a dog started barking. Derek looked behind him at the dog and then back at Scott, Y/n giving the canine creature a glance. Scott kept staring until Allison had gotten his attention. Derek took this chance to leave. Y/n gave the moon a nervous glance before returning to the party. She wandered aimlessly until a pair of familiar hands grabbed her and she found she was inside the house again. She looked up to see Stiles giving her a worried look.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
She opened her mouth to say something, but slowly shut it realizing she didn't really have anything to say. So she just settled with, "Yeah, I'm fine." A sudden pull in her gut told her that something was happening and that that something was Scott. "But I don't think Scott is." Not even a moment after she said that Scott had started to practically stumble into the house, sweat on his brow and breathing heavily.
"Yo, Scott, you good?" Stiles asked as he got closer.
"Are you okay?" Another girl asked yet he just bypassed everyone and made his way to his car, speeding off as fast as he could. He was gone by the time Y/n and Stiles made it outside and they just barely caught Allison getting into Derek's car and driving off.
Y/n huffed in frustration and grabbed Stiles' wrist. "Come on." She dragged him to his Jeep and he drove them to Scott's house. Melissa wasn't home as the two bounded up the steps and to Scott's door. That was probably for the best. She tried to open the door and found it was locked so she pounded on it instead.
"Go away." She heard his meak reply.
"Scott, it's us." Movement from the other side and the door opened just a crack. They tried to open it further but Scott wouldn't let them. "Let us in, Scott. We can help."
"No! Listen, you gotta find Allison."
"She's fine, all right?" Stiles assured. "We saw her get a ride from the party. She's- she's totally fine."
"No, I think I know who it is."
"You just let us in. We can try-"
"It's Derek. Derek Hale is the werewolf. He's the one that bit me. He's the one that killed the girl in the woods."
"Wait, no." Y/n tried to correct. "No, Scott, he didn't-" She was cut off.
"Scott.. Derek's the one who drove Allison from the party."
"Oh, shit." Y/n felt Scott's mood shift a second before the door slammed on them and was locked again.
Stiles banged on the door. "Scott!" Stiles kept trying the door as Y/n heard a thump. Her breath hitched when she heard a roar and she pushed Stiles from the door and out of the house. "It's too late. Just check on Allison. I'll try and follow Scott."
"Wait, what?! You can't go out there by yourself! You could get hurt! Whoa!" He nearly fell as Y/n practically shoved him into the Jeep.
"Don't worry, I can handle myself. Just go." She didn't give him anymore time to argue as she started sprinting towards the woods. There wasn't time to track him so she just went in the general direction she had heard him run for a bit before she resorted to getting some help. She stopped for a minute and closed her eyes. When she opened them they blazed with a violet glow and she looked around at the few people now standing around there. "Have you seen a boy run through here?" She got a few nods. "Please, show me which way he went." One by one the figures pointed and she continued running, now following the dead's guidance.
She felt them before she saw them, the wolves and the Hunters. Her eyes returned to e/c as she saw a flash of light and heard Scott's scream of pain. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw three Hunters there. Like a truck hitting her, memories flashed through her head. Running through the woods. She was crying and she heard her mother scream. "Y/n! Run, just run!"
She was snapped out of her flashback when she heard, who she assumed, the lead Hunter speak. "Take him." That's when she spotted Scott, shifted and pinned to a tree by an arrow through his forearm. Suddenly one of the other Hunters was yanked back and she caught a glimpse of Derek. A rush of adrenaline urged her forward and to Scott where she broke the arrow and pulled him away as Derek threw the second Hunter before following them.
The three ran through the woods until Scott collapsed to the ground against a tree, panting. When he turned around and sat with his back on the tree he was back to normal. Y/n dropped to her knees taking deep breaths, her hands gripping onto any fabric they could find to stop from shaking. Derek looked around to make sure they got away for now. "Who were they?" Scott asked.
"Hunters." Derek answered. "The kind that have been hunting us for centuries."
"Us? You mean you! You did this to me!" Scott jumped up from the ground and shouted angrily.
"Is it really so bad, Scott? That you can see better... Hear more clearly, move faster than any human could ever hope? You've been given something most people would kill for. The Bite is a gift."
"He should have had the choice to receive it." Y/n spoke up, finally finding her voice again. She shakily stood up, clenching her hands to stand stronger. "It should have been his decision."
"There's nothing to be done about that now. He has it."
"I don't want it." Scott said.
"You will. And you're gonna need me if you want to learn how to control it." Derek bent over and placed his hand on Scott's shoulder. "So you and me, Scott... We're brothers now." Derek walked away, leaving the teens by themselves. Scott gripped his injured arm and leaned his head back.
Y/n looked at him and his arm. She carefully made her way to his right so she could see it better. "Can I see?" She asked. He looked up at her like he was just realizing she was there but nodded and moved his hand. She gently took his arm and inspected the wound. It wasn't too bad, she could easily heal it. But the problem was healing it would raise more questions than she was willing to answer so soon. So instead she tore off a strip of her clothes, not really minding since she could always fix it later. She tied the fabric around his arm and he hissed at the contact. "Sorry." She pulled her hands away when she was done and looked up at him. "That should do for now. It might take a while, but you'll heal."
"Thank you." She gave him a small smile and a nod. She looked around with a sigh and stood up, holding a hand out to him.
"Come on. It's a ways before we get back home. Better start walking now." He took her hand, she helped him stand and they both started to trek through the woods.
...
By the time the sun was up Y/n and Scott were going down the side of the road, Scott still babying his injured arm. The sound of a car coming drew her attention and she looked over her shoulder, smiling in relief when she saw the most beautiful blue Jeep she had ever seen. She tugged on Scott's good arm to get him to turn as Stiles pulled to a stop next to them. Scott got into the front and Y/n happily hopped in the back, tossing a spare blanket at Scott before curling herself up in one and sprawling in the back.
"You know what actually worries me the most?" Scott asked after a while.
"If you say Allison, I'm gonna punch you in the head." Stiles responded.
"Leave the boy alone, Stilinski." Y/n mumbled tiredly from the back.
"She probably hates me now." Scott practically lamented.
"Ugh." Stiles sighed. "I doubt that. But you might want to come up with a pretty amazing apology. Or, you know, you could just... Tell her the truth and... Revel in the awesomeness of the fact that you're a frickin' werewolf." Scott gave him a look and Stiles backpedaled. "Okay, bad idea. Hey, we'll get through this." Stiles patted his arm. "Come on, if I have to, I'll chain you up myself on full moon nights and feed you live mice. I had a boa once. I could do it."
"I'm pretty sure l could get some puppy chow from the Clinic." Y/n offered with a sleepy smile. Scott scoffed at them with a smile and they continued their drive in silence.
After Stiles dropped Y/n off at home a few hours before school she closed the door behind her and just stood there for what felt like hours but was only a few minutes. Her eyes were glued to the floor, her mind filled with white noise. Alan had been waiting for her to get home and when she didn't come through the living room a bit after the door closed he decided to go to her. When he spotted her her expression looked almost exactly like it had years ago when she was a terrified little girl in front of his door, eyes watery with shadows of the past flickering in the e/c depths. This worried him because she wasn't one to be scared so easily. Something had to have happened that truly shook her.
She didn't seem to notice his presence, even when he was stood right in front of her. He gently placed his hands on her shoulders as if he was handling a scared animal, and by all rights, he was. Her eyes flicked up to his and she just stared at him for a moment. Then it seemed like the night's events finally caught up to her as her breath hitched and tears spilled down her cheeks.
She practically fell into him and he held her up, not asking any questions because right now, all she needed was to be comforted. He would get answers later when she calmed down and was finally able to tell him what happened without choking up. It was moments like those she was thankful that she had found Alan and had been taken in by him and she would always be grateful for it.

Never gonna give you up 5+1
I don't think I ever posted this fanfic here, so I'm here to fix that.
1.
Never was too soon for a repeat of tonight’s experience, Derek decided as he braced himself against the sharp corner. The wheels of the Jeep skidded on the gravel, making the back of the car slide out. There was no need for them to drive this fast, not anymore. Leftover adrenaline made for a heavy foot on the gas, apparently. The engine whined as they cut free of the forest, trading gravel for blacktop. Gradually they reduced speed, until they were driving at a pace well within the limits.
“Think you can hit play for me, big guy?” Stiles asked in an upbeat tone. “Without getting blood all over my iPod, if you can.”
The look Derek sent him was cutting, but Stiles was long since immune for any angry stare he received from the werewolf. With all his energy going into healing, Derek decided it wasn’t worth it to get into it with Stiles over something so small. He pressed his left hand against the flap of skin that was only loosely covering his ribs on his right side and reached out with his free hand to the battered iPod crammed into the hole that used to house the radio of the Jeep. The radio was one of the car parts that fell victim to the crash with the Kanima and with some help of Boyd Stiles had hooked up his iPod directly to the car’s speakers.
The Alpha werewolf didn’t bother to check what playlist it was, he just hit the large button in the middle and settled back into his seat, gritting his teeth against the pain the movement caused.
The sounds of an eighties synthesizer filled the car, drums coming in alternately from the left and right speaker, immediately followed by a peal of laughter from the car’s owner. Derek bit through the agony and pushed forward again, cutting off the music abruptly just when the lyrics started. Stiles didn’t say anything, though it took a minute before he stopped chuckling quietly.
When they got to the loft, Stiles followed him inside, although Derek hadn’t asked him to. He hadn’t told him not to either, which was probably why the teen did it. Not that Stiles bothered with doing what people told him to, not when it came to Derek. The boy was pack in all the ways that counted, except for heeding his Alpha’s commands.
Derek let himself fall on the threadbare couch, still holding his skin more or less in the right place to knit itself together again. Behind him, Stiles rummaged around in the kitchen, emerging a little while later with two bottles of water and a couple of energy bars. He dropped the food and one of the bottles on the couch next to the werewolf, easily within reach. Then he sat down on the armrest furthest from Derek, twisting the cap of his own bottle and gulping the contents down eagerly. The werewolf watched the boy’s Adams apple bop with each swallow, his eyes catching on the long line of his throat.
Stiles wiped his mouth and looked down at Derek, intelligent eyes roaming over the werewolf’s bloodied torso. “You going to be okay?” he asked, not really sounding like he needed an answer, so Derek didn’t give him one. “Thought so,” the boy confirmed anyway, and patted Derek’s shin twice as he got up. “I’m gonna give Roscoe a wash. I think there are bits of skin stuck to the passenger seat. Gross!”
2.
“Gonna have to walk a little slower, big guy,” Stiles complained, sounding a little winded as he picked his way through the undergrowth a few paces behind Derek. He grunted dismissively, though he held his step a little anyway.
Derek might have wondered why he was always the one stuck with Stiles on a stake out, if the math wasn’t so easy. Being human, the boy was the weakest of the pack, physically speaking at least. And with Derek as Alpha and therefore strongest, it was only logical that they paired up. Besides, it wasn’t like Derek had his pick of people to go on stakeout with tonight. There wasn’t a clear threat, this was just Derek acting on a hunch. ‘Being paranoid’, Scott had said. ‘I’m not messing up my nails in the woods tonight’, was Erica’s reaction. Boyd had only told him to call when there was trouble. Derek was fully prepared to go alone tonight. It was his idea after all and he was pretty sure he could handle whatever he would encounter. Yet Stiles hadn’t let him. He didn’t offer to tag along, he just did.
When asked, the werewolf would say he hated being alone with Stiles. The boy was never not moving and only silent when sleeping. Scratch that, even asleep Stiles wasn’t silent. He was a source of constant movement, night or day, always in the periphery of Derek’s attention. It was impossible not to watch Stiles, even more so when they were alone.
Walking through the woods at night and trying to keep a low profile was also pretty much impossible with Stiles, a fact proved when Derek grabbed the boy’s elbow not for the first time that night to keep him upright. If it were up to him, he would’ve gladly let him faceplant in the leaves, but they were making enough noise as it was already.
“Do you think you could be any louder?” he hissed, shoving Stiles along the path.
“Do you think you could be any rougher?” Stiles threw back in a low voice, rubbing his hand over where Derek had grabbed his arm. He wouldn’t bruise, Derek hadn’t grabbed him that hard; chances were he was just sour about missing out on game night with Scott. He’d heard them talking about it yesterday, Stiles lamenting about him and Scott needing a boy’s night with pizza, energy drinks and playing video games in their underwear. Derek didn’t understand why Stiles would choose a night in the woods with him over that.
“Now what?” Stiles stopped at the ridge, looking out into the forest on the hill below them.
“Now we wait,” Derek answered, dropping down into a crouch and tugging the boy down with him. Stiles fell to his butt with a grunt, but pulled his legs under him a moment later, jostling Derek’s shoulder when he came up to his knees.
“You see anything?” Derek didn’t answer that, nor the next question: “Hear anything?”
Stiles rolled his eyes at the werewolf’s lack of communication and then shrugged his backpack off. He pulled the bag in front of him and opened up the zipper. At first Derek ignored the apple that was presented to him, but Stiles only shook it in emphasis until he took it.
For a few minutes, Stiles was as quiet as he ever got. Which meant that the sounds of him chewing on his own apple mixed in with the sounds of the forest.
When the humming started, Derek shut him up at first. It helped for a few minutes, but not long. Because the wind was in their favour, Derek gave up on shushing Stiles: it was easier to just tune him out and concentrate on the sounds that reached him from the forest.
It took a good while before the words showed up in his mind. Bits and pieces of song lyrics just floating around his brain, easy to ignore. It wasn’t until he caught himself starting to hum the same tune that he rounded on the boy next to him. “Damn it, Stiles!”
Stiles simply laughed softly. “It’s quite the earworm, isn’t it?”
3.
“Give me a second, I’m just gonna… Yeah, I’ve got it all right here,” Stiles said through the phone, clicking around on his computer. “Whole list of it, actually. I’ll send you an email right now.”
Derek hung up the phone and grabbed the laptop from the coffee table. It was a refurbished laptop that Stiles had made him buy a few weeks ago, claiming that ‘no self-respectable Alpha in the twenty first century could go without, especially if they don’t want to say goodbye to their frigging flip phone’.
The mockery of his phone by his pack was getting old. The device maybe wasn’t as up to date as the other phones, but it held up in a fight and that was something Derek valued more over the use of the latest social media apps. However, contrary to popular belief, Derek wasn’t completely unaware of pop culture, which was why he immediately recognised the video for what it was.
It was hidden in the list of websites Stiles sent him. Derek was working his way through the links one by one, working up a steady appreciation of Stiles' research skills, when his laptop suddenly started playing music after he clicked the fourth link on the list.
He almost called Stiles to tell him off, but settled for aggressively closing down the browser window.
The other links were all normal, providing him with the information he asked for and then some.
4.
“You want anything, hon?” The waitress directed the question to Scott, who placed his order of a large breakfast spread with an equally large smile. She wasn’t placated by it and Derek resigned himself to giving her an extra big tip for putting up with his raucous pack on her early morning shift.
“I’m so hungry, I could eat a horse,” Stiles said to the table at large, patting his stomach.
“Should’ve ordered something else than bacon then,” Isaac deadpanned from across from him.
Stiles smiled impishly. “My love for bacon is strong, I can’t help it.”
“Can you make bacon from horses?” Scott wondered out loud and that set off a whole discussion about the consummation of horse meat.
Derek let it all wash over him, leaning back in his chair. His pack was fine, all were whole, or whole again at least. Isaac was wearing a track shirt that Stiles had lying in the back of his Jeep, replacing his own shirt that was ripped to pieces. There was blood on his jeans still, Derek could smell it from across the table, but it wasn’t visible against the dark fabric and the wounds were all healed. Erica sported a similar situation, also with mostly invisible bloodstains on her dark clothes, as did Boyd. The blood wasn’t all theirs. Normally, Derek would have told them to go home, wash up, but this Denny’s was closer and growling stomachs had won over the urge to get cleaned up. Or rather, Stiles had strongarmed him into buying his pack breakfast, saying that it was good for bonding and empty stomachs alike.
Not bothering to get in on the conversation, Derek let his eyes glide over his pack members, ensuring himself once again that everyone was in one piece. He got stuck on Stiles, distracted by the way his T-shirt pulled taut when he moved his arms behind his back to stretch. Derek hadn’t seen the article of clothing before, it had been hidden underneath a grey striped hoodie; he guessed that was ruined too. It was a black T-shirt with a jumble of letters and symbols on the front. It looked like computer code, or something equally confusing. Undoubtedly it was some pop culture reference, or a bad pun. He didn’t care enough to ask for the meaning of it, yet his eyes kept returning to the text on the shirt, even after their food arrived.
He recognised a word in the top line from the abbreviations the pack used in their text messages; sometimes it was as if they were allergic to vowels. The letters ‘nvr’ probably spelled never. And below that, was the word ‘annog’, which could be a made up word or it was simply ‘gonna’ spelled backwards. Then it said ‘forgive’, subtract four, and on the bottom something with ‘me’, ‘you’ and ‘splitting soup’. It was complete nonsense, that’s what it was.
Eventually, Stiles caught him looking. “You like the shirt, big guy?” He took a bite of a strip of bacon, cocking his head as he waited for Derek to answer.
“It’s ridiculous. It doesn’t even make sense.”
Stiles grinned. “Sure it does. You just have to figure it out.”
Next to him, Boyd took a look at Stiles’ shirt and scoffed. “Isn’t that joke ancient by now?”
“Classics never go out of style,” Stiles argued, pointing the strip of bacon at Derek’s second. “Besides, I like it. It’s got meaning.”
“Like your stripper mom’s T-shirt?” Erica asked snidely. “Because that one’s just rubbish.”
“Nah,” Stiles smirked and then he winked at Derek. “This one has a better roll to it, doesn’t it, oh Alpha mine?”
It clicked for Derek in that moment and he let out a long suffering sigh. “I should rip your throat out…”
“With your teeth, I know,” Stiles finished for him, happily munching on another strip of bacon.
5.
Up until now Derek had always thought that brownies were something to eat, not annoying little creatures to kill. Or, well, that’s not exactly true. He knew they were mythical creatures, but he’d thought they were just that. Mythical, not real. And how bad could they be if they ended up being real? Pretty damn annoying, it turned out. They didn’t look like much, but they had razor sharp teeth and equally sharp nails that cut through clothes and skin like miniature knives through butter. And like a wolf pack, their strength was in numbers. However, he refused to lose to something small and annoying, so, in the end, the wolf pack won.
Derek looked around at his pack, who were panting and bloody, but otherwise okay. Erica was frantically raking her fingers through her hair, cursing angrily at the loose hairs she brushed out with it. “Those fuckers cut a chunk of my hair!”
Boyd diligently looked at the problem area, declaring it wasn’t so bad. Erica huffed in disdain. “No offence, honey, but you haven’t got a hair on your head. What the hell do you pretend to know about it?”
She turned to the other available girl, Allison, and let the hunter fuss over her hair. Derek was long past the point of wondering how the hell that happened. His pack included a hunter, a banshee and a former kamina, he'd learned to not question it anymore.
He patted his pockets, routinely checking for his car keys. Those he found, though they threatened to fall through a tear in his jeans any minute. He came up short when feeling around for his phone. The pocket on that side was cut clean through, empty of its contents. Derek rumbled in annoyance, getting a quick inquiring glance from Boyd.
"Lost my phone," he explained quickly, already stalking back to the area where he'd been for most of the fight. It was where Stiles was sitting, sagged out against a tree and scrolling through something on his phone. The boy was holding the cuff of his sleeve pressed gingerly against a small cut above his lip, otherwise he seemed fine and Derek didn't have to worry about him.
Sniffing out his phone turned out to be harder than he thought. The ground was covered in quickly disintegrating brownie bodies and while he could appreciate the lack of clean up they would have to do, the smell of decay and blood covered up the other smells in the area.
Derek planted his hands on his hips with a huff, scanning the forest floor around him. His phone was black and pretty small: it could be anywhere. He glanced at the smartphone in Stiles' hand, with its shiny firetruck red cover. Obnoxious and flashy as it was, it would be pretty easy to find.
"What's up, big guy?" Stiles asked from his spot by the tree. "Looking for something?"
"Dropped my phone," Derek sighed, already making plans in his head to drop by the mall in the next town over to get a new phone. He wondered if they still sold flip phones.
"Oh wait, I'll call you so we can hear it ring," Stiles said, clambering to his feet and moving his fingers over his touch screen.
Sure enough, moments later there was a song playing, a few meters to his left. "That's not my ringtone," Derek said sharply, his eyebrows climbing up to his hairline when he recognised the song.
“It is when I call,” Stiles answered gleefully, watching as Derek went off in the direction of the sound. The warm baritone of the singer was cut off when the werewolf bent down to retrieve his phone, buried half underneath a dead brownie. He wiped it on his jeans and then flipped it open.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Stiles called out.
“Figuring out how to delete this ringtone,” Derek bit out, tapping the keys forcefully.
“Hey, no, why would you do that?” Stiles ambled closer and for a moment Derek forgot to tune out his scent. It was a habit that his mother had taught him when he was young; with their keen sense of smell and hearing there was little privacy in a pack: it was common courtesy to try and tune the others out as much as possible in normal, day to day interactions. Derek did it with his own pack too, as much out of self-preservation as in consideration of their privacy. His pack consisted of teenagers, they were generally a whirlwind of strong emotions and unwarranted arousal. He would get whiplash if he’d be able to scent it all. Right now, Stiles smelled of disappointment and vague embarrassment.
Derek frowned. “Because it’s a cheesy song. A joke.”
The smell of embarrassment got a little stronger. “It’s our thing,” Stiles said with a shrug that wasn’t as casual as he probably hoped. “It’s our song, sourwolf” he tacked on with a smirk, also a bit strained.
“It’s a love song,” Derek said slowly, puzzled, his fingers stilling on the phone keys. It wasn’t like he knew how to change the ringtone anyway. Before now he didn’t even know you could add personalised ringtones to a caller.
“Yeah, well…” Stiles cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. He was also getting quite red in the face, yet still Derek couldn’t look away from him. “It’s the sentiment that counts.”
“The sentiment,” Derek repeated, still confused by the situation.
“The sentiment, you know, the message? The idea the song conveys?”
“I know what sentiment means, Stiles,” he said, more gently than he usually was with the teen. “But still… a love song.”
“I know that,” said Stiles, still with red cheeks. “And I know that we,” he gestured with his hand between them, “are not… that.”
Derek pressed down on the sudden urge to ask what exactly they were, if not that.
“I just think that, it’s just,” Stiles floundered and then he shrugged somewhat defeated. “It’s something that you need to hear, every now and then.” A silence fell between them, one loaded with something Derek couldn’t quite figure out. Not yet.
Stiles took a deep breath and held out his hand. “Give me that, I’ll change it back to your normal, boring ringtone.”
Derek shook his head and put his phone in his jacket pocket, a pocket that was still in one piece. With a nudge to Stiles' shoulder he started to walk away, towards the spot where they parked their cars. Stiles followed him, smelling content and happy, with his lips pressed together to hide a smile.
+1
Derek hadn’t known he had a first aid kit in his bathroom. Yet there it was, neatly tucked away in the cabinet underneath the sink. The rectangle box felt heavy, like it was stuffed full with all kinds of items a self-healing werewolf would never need.
“Why do I have this?” Derek asked as he walked back into the room, knowing for sure he never bought it, so someone else had to. Someone named Stiles, probably.
“Because you have humans in your pack,” Stiles answered from the sofa, making grabby hands at the kit before Derek was even close enough. He took the box, putting it in his lap and opening it immediately. “There should be ice packs in the fridge,” Stiles directed without looking up.
And indeed there were. Derek grabbed two and a towel, making his way back to Stiles. He carefully sat down by the foot that the boy had put up on the sofa. His sneaker was already off, but he still had his sock on. The werewolf carefully placed the ice packs on both sides of Stiles’ swollen ankle, wrapping them in place with the towel.
Meanwhile, Stiles was wrapping his arm up. It was his lower left arm, making it not too hard for him to do himself; the bandage was a little wonky, but it’d do for now. It was just a large scrape anyway, the bandage was mostly to keep the wound clean.
That left the cut on his eyebrow. Derek watched Stiles feeling around the cut with his fingers of his one hand, while holding a butterfly bandage with his other. It wouldn’t work, but he waited until Stiles grimaced and locked eyes with him, a crooked, bloody butterfly bandage still in hand.
Derek leaned forward and picked a clean bandage from the kit. “This one, right?”
Stiles nodded and kept his eyes on Derek when he scooted closer until he was seated next to the boy’s hip. The cut was already cleaned and disinfected, all that was left was to place the bandage. Maybe two, Derek thought, as he eyed the cut critically. Stiles had said it wasn’t deep enough to warrant stitches and he’d gotten hurt often enough to know, Derek presumed. It didn’t sit easy with him, though. He didn’t like to see his pack get hurt, especially the humans because they didn’t heal as quickly as the werewolves did. And, he didn’t like seeing Stiles get hurt.
Derek carefully placed the butterfly bandage across the cut. Stiles smelled of blood and pain, though the boy assured him the latter was mostly from his ankle. Spraining an ankle hurt, Derek knew from experience, even though for him the pain was always short lived. Stiles closed his eyes as Derek put a second bandage in place and covered them with a larger bandaid. “There, that should do it.”
“Thanks,” Stiles said softly as Derek put everything back in the kit and quickly tidied away the mess.
“Want to watch a movie?” The question came somewhat unexpected for Stiles, yet he smiled and nodded quickly. Derek tossed him the remote so he could select a movie from the streaming services the boy had set up himself a while back and went into the kitchen to grab them something to drink.
When he came back Stiles had a superhero movie lined up, one that Derek hadn’t seen yet but he knew Stiles had. He pulled the coffee table closer to the sofa so Stiles could reach his drink and then sat down, carefully placing Stiles' injured foot in his lap. The boy’s heartbeat ticked up and his cheeks coloured red, yet he didn’t say anything. Derek nodded for him to press play on the movie and gently eased his hand a little ways up Stiles’ pant leg, just above the ice packs, to make skin contact and leach away his pain.
“Thanks for coming back,” Stiles said quietly over the sounds of the opening scene. “And taking care of me.”
Derek glanced at him, at the way Stiles held his eyes glued to the tv screen to avoid looking at him directly. He waited a beat for Stiles to take a sip of his soda. “That goes without saying, Stiles,” he emphasised then. “I wasn’t gonna run around and desert you.”
Stiles made a choking sound and sprayed his drink everywhere. Derek kept his foot in place while the boy flailed and laughed, wiping the soda from his face with his sleeve. “Damn it, Derek! It came out of my nose!”

"I'll text Stiles," Scott says, grabbing his backpack. "Then I'm gonna go see Allison.”
When Scott turns back around, Derek's lips are a thin line and they are the only part of him that moves when he asks, through his teeth, "Are you going to talk to her, too?”
Scott just squints. Because—huh?
"Derek, what do you mean, am I going to talk to her, too?” He narrows his eyes even more, suspicious. “Why else would I be going to see Allison, if not to talk to her? I don't just, like, watch her from afar like some creeper, you know."
Scott isn't about to admit that he has, embarrassingly, done just that on occasion. Alright, occasions, plural—but only once or twice! Five or six times, tops. And only ever when he thought Allison was, or could possibly be, in danger. It's not weird, though. It's not! It's noble, okay? It just sounds weird when you say it out loud. Even if he hasn't actually said it out loud. Well, at least not just now anyways; he's said it in front of the mirror a couple times and it turns out your reflection can be pretty hurtful and judgemental which, honestly, is a little upsetting.
Just as Scott realises that Derek must know he just told a lie—half-lie!—the Alpha's face does a thing that Scott has never seen it do before. Ever. The dude looks almost… Human.
And, what the hell?
Derek clears his throat and shifts his weight from one foot to the other and worries at his bottom lip a bit and now Scott is feeling anxious because who is this guy? And what has he done with Derek ‘I Will Never Give A Single Thing Away About Myself Ever Other Than The Fact I Am Eternally Pissed’ Hale? (that's one of Stiles's).
Just the possibility of Derek ‘Emotionally Open and Vulnerable’ Hale is, like—it's just way too much for Scott to handle on a Sunday morning when he's supposed to be at the veterinary surgery in less than fourteen minute's time and has to somehow manage fitting in seeing Allison on the way.
But it seems Scott is also too nosy to just move on from this and let sleeping dogs lie. And both of those things are really annoying because strange old phrases and being overly curious is usually a Stiles thing, not a Scott thing, so Scott really doesn't know what he's supposed to do!
W.W.S.D.
What Would Stiles Do?
"Um, Derek, have you been—"
"Firstly, McCall, following somebody around and watching them from a distance is not creepy if you think that they need to be tailed for their own safety, alright?" Derek starts and—well.
Exactly!
Scott actually genuinely likes Derek, for just a moment, because he knew he'd been right about that! He gives himself an internal high-five and an imaginary congratulatory pat on the back because being kind to yourself is never a bad option. Unfortunately, Scott now also has to admit to himself that it does, in fact, sound weird when you say it out loud. Or, well, think it out loud. Whatever, he knows what he means.
He realises that Derek is still speaking.
"...because Stiles is human and also the biggest danger-magnet in the pack, so it makes sense that one of us should be keeping tabs on him. Thirdly, I—“
“Someone, Derek!” Scott blurts, “I was going to ask if you've been creeping on someone!" he interrupts because—honestly, in the most way possible—what?! The hell?!
Scott is both stunned and annoyed at hearing that Derek has been following Stiles (hiding around dark corners and slinking about the place like a wolf ninja. Scott should know. Shut up.)
Because Stiles! Is Scott's best friend!
And, like, how long has he been doing this? And for what purpose, really? Because Derek's heart just skipped about twelve beats, never mind one, so reason number two was obviously at least a half-lie of his own.
That's when Derek's mouth clacks audibly shut.
Scott just stares. And he knows; there is more going on here than meets the eye.
Then it's obvious that Derek knows that Scott knows and then everybody is knowing and looking and looking and knowing and Scott just—he can't stand it, okay? He needs confirmation. He doesn't necessarily want it, but it's like his mom always says: Life's tough sometimes.
Eventually, he manages to say, "Are you stalking Stiles, Derek?" and hopes to hell he's wrong because he now feels somewhere in between being affronted on his best friend's behalf, totally grossed-out because it's Derek, ugh, and maybe just a little bit amused. Or is it bemused? Possibly confused. Scott is definitely some of those words.
And again, seriously, what the hell?
Has Derek honestly been creeping on Stiles because he's concerned for Stiles's safety? And, if so, why? Like, does Derek even get concerned for humans? Or other wolves for that matter (apart from maybe his own betas which is probably only a biological thing anyway, Scott reckons). Does Derek care about anybody? At all? Dude doesn't even care about himself, Scott doesn't think.
Scott now tries his best to come up with another reason, any other possible reason, that someone might have to follow a person around, but he can't seem to land on—OH, GOD! DOES DEREK HAVE A CRUSH ON STILES? Oh, shit! Oh, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit! He can't. But he—nope. No! Because what. The actual. Hell! He just—no. No, no, no. He can't! Can he? Oh, my God, what if he does?! And if it is true... ew! Derek Hale crushing is just gross! And on Stiles?! Just, no. But also, why? And also-also, how the hell did Scott not notice something sooner?!
And another thing: Did Scott somehow wake up this morning having somehow travelled in his sleep to one of those Affirmative Universe places that Stiles is always banging on about?
Man, Scott has, like, so many questions.
Derek still hasn't said anything and is just standing opposite Scott with his stupid arms folded across his stupid chest with his stupid beard in his stupid loft looking really, really stupidly sheepish, and Scott thinks, yep.
Affirmative Universe.
He doesn't know what to do and Stiles isn't here to ask, so he waves a confused (and maybe amused and bemused) arm in the air and says, “Derek, what the hell is going on? Have we travelled to an Affirmative Universe or something, because—”
“Don't you mean Alternative Universe?”
“—you never just, I don't know, don't throw something offensive or at least defensive back at me when I'm talking to you about Stiles. Or, you know, anybody else. Or anything else, come to think of it!”
Derek now looks, for real, actually scared.
And Scott? Well, Scott is now officially terrified.
His phone starts ringing and, as it's already in his hand, he just answers it without looking, eyes still fixed on Derek The Imposter.
“Yooooo, amigo, what's the plan?”
It's Stiles. Of course it's Stiles.
Stiles is on the phone and Derek Hale might-probably-definitely have a crush on him, and Scott may or may not be in an Affirmative Universe but can't know for sure and can no longer speak or think or breathe.
“Uh, Scottie? Scottland? Sir Scott-A-Lot? You there, ol’buddy, ol’pal?”
Derek can obviously hear who is on the other end of the phone. He looks positively constipated, his brows knitting together even tighter than before, tighter than ever before, and his lethal jaw is ticking away like it's being controlled by the World Clock in Berlin that Scott learned about in middle school.
Scott sighs, heavy, like he's seventy years old instead of seventeen.
Derek is now giving his best version of Scott's own speciality Puppy Dog Eyes (something Stiles and Allison always accuse him of), with a definite flavour of please, don't tell…
And Scott wants to cry. Like a baby. Like, throw himself onto the floor and scream and shout and kick his feet in the air.
Instead, he grits his teeth together like the mature person he is, feeling very firmly smooshed between a best friend-shaped rock and a werewolf-scented hard place.
Ugh, his life is just so unfair!
He mouths YOU OWE ME to Derek, and Derek's whole body visibly sags with relief.
Then he takes a deep breath and answers Stiles—who is now chanting ScottieScottieScottieScottieScottieScottieScottie down the phone—with, “Dude, shut up and listen, will you! I think we might have a very real problem with Affirmative Universes!”

Ground Rules
Derek is leaving town for three days. He has to lay down some rules for the pack. [AO3]
Tumblr media
The pack were gathered in the sunken lounge room of the loft. Cora had claimed the only arm chair, sitting with her legs over one armrest. Erica, Lydia and Allison sat on the couch, Isaac sitting on the floor at their feet while Scott and Boyd stood, leaning against the back of the couch and talking quietly with the others. Stiles laid on the floor beside Cora’s armchair, his arms flailing as he talked.
“Alright, listen up,” Derek called out.
The pack straightened up and turned to their alpha, alert and attentive. Stiles stayed prone, but his arms stilled and fell to his sides, the only sign he was listening.
“I’m going to be out of town for three days,” Derek announced. “So, let’s go over the ground rules.”
There was a collective groan of protest from the group.
“If you didn’t break them, I wouldn’t have to repeat them every time.”
The room fell quiet as the pack reluctantly listened.
“No adding to the population, no subtracting from the population,” Derek said, shooting a glare at his sister to drive home his point. “Do not end up in the hospital, newspapers or jail. If you do end up in jail—”
“Assert dominance,” the pack said simultaneously.
“What? No!” Derek objected, his eyes wide with shock and horror.
The pack were quiet for a moment.
“You call me and I will send the money to bail you out,” Derek told them. He closed his eyes, letting out a heavy sigh before adding, “And don’t use your one phone call to order pizza.”
“Who would do that?” Boyd asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
Hands shot up around the room.
“My dad’s the sheriff, he knows who to call to get us out of trouble,” Stiles argued. “Meanwhile, I was hungry.”
“And don’t even think about trying to repeat what you did last time,” Derek said through gritted teeth, shooting a fierce glare at Erica and Stiles—or at least at where Stiles laid on the floor—knowing it was their idea.
Isaac looked puzzled. “What happened last time?”
“We had a competition to see who could break the most rules the fastest,” Erica explained.
“It was stupid,” Boyd said. At the same time, Cora asked, “Who won?”
Stiles’ hand shot up as he very proudly declared, “I did!”
“That’s not something to be proud of,” Derek said, exasperated.
Derek let out a heavy sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Please, just this once, can you follow the rules?”
The pack mumbled in agreement.
“Thank you,” Derek sighed with relief, although there was a part of him that didn’t believe them. He threw the strap of his duffle bag over his shoulder. “I’ll see you in three days.”

Silent Confessions - Isaac Lahey x GN!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You patch Isaac up after his dad's punishment.
Warnings: Mentions of abuse/violence/blood.
WC: 800ish
@ashes-writing ILY Bestie! Thank you for helping hatch this idea it turned out, in my opinion, super fucking cute and fluffy!
You'd stepped out onto the back porch of your parent's house to light your cigarette, a habit you'd been trying to kick. The stick was between your lips, your fingers just about to light the flame when the sound of running distracted you. You looked up and saw a bruised, beaten, and slightly bloody Isaac Lahey.
He had jumped the fence and was headed straight towards you, breathless.
You gave him a bittersweet smile and removed the cigarette from your mouth, placing it back in the pack without a word. You knew what happened. "Come on, let's get you inside." You sighed, wrapping an arm around him.
He leaned into you, letting you help support him all the way up the stairs and into your bathroom.
You sat him down on the edge of the tub before making your way around the small space, gathering the supplies you'd need to care for him.
He sat silently, watching your feet as his head hung low. He only looked up when you came to a stop in front of him.
You took his chin in your hand and tilted his head from side to side, taking in the damage with a small sigh. You refused to ask him what happened, mainly because you knew that his father was the answer, and you didn't want to make him talk about it.
You let go of him and grabbed the cloth, dabbing it in peroxide. "This is going to sting." You rested your hand on his face again, gently guiding him to the angle you needed him to be at.
He winced a bit at first, reaching out and gripping your hips like he'd done a hundred times before.
You cleaned the small wounds and wiped the dirt and sweat accumulated from running the three blocks to you. "There's glass in your hair, Isaac." You said, picking the small shards from his curls.
"It's from the picture frame he shoved my head into." His voice was low. He wasn't sure you'd heard him until your body stiffened. He noticed you breathe a bit harder but appreciated you not pressing.
You ran your fingers through his hair until you were sure all the glass was gone. "Why don't you stay here tonight?" You offered, stepping closer and wrapping him in a hug.
His head rested against your stomach as his arms wound around your waist. "Thank you."
You kissed the top of his head and held him for just a few more moments before stepping back. "You can shower. You've still got clothes in my room. I'll bring them for you." You neglected to tell him you slept in them most nights.
He nodded and let you go before standing.
You heard the water turn on as you gathered his clothes. You thanked yourself for washing them earlier that day as you walked back down the hall. "Can I come in?" You called, hand resting on the knob.
"Yeah." He called back as he pulled his blood-stained shirt over his head. He looked over at you as you stopped in the doorway.
"Sorry. Thought you'd be in the shower already." You nodded towards the curtain that was half open. You looked down his body, biting your lip to keep from mentioning the bruise that was forming on his ribs.
He looked down and his shoulders sagged before he closed his eyes, fighting tears.
You sat his clothes on the counter and stepped up to him. You reached up, resting a gentile hand on his shoulder, the other on his side. You silently pulled him into your body, pushing his head to rest on your shoulder.
His body shook against yours as he squeezed you, letting his emotions out. He sniffled and pulled away; eyes still wet as he looked down at you. "I come here because I feel safe with you, you know?"
Your heart swelled and deflated all at once. You were so happy that he felt like he could come here when he needed to, but you hated that he didn't feel the same way about his own home. "I'm glad you do."
His face came closer to yours. His gaze flickered from your eyes to your lips and back.
Your stomach dropped and your head spun at the silent confession. You looked at him for a moment before you decided to pull him into you. You pressed your lips lightly against his, careful not to kiss him hard enough that his lip would split again.
He pulled back and smiled a bit as he looked down at the floor.
"You're wasting all the hot water you know." You joked, hands falling down his body before resting at your sides. "Shower and I'll get some snacks and a movie ready." You added. nodding towards the shower.
He nodded and watched as you stepped towards the door, still smiling to himself.

“Dude, I think my new roommate is a merperson.” Corey’s stunned silence was deafening as he watched Theo set his plate of food down on the dining hall table. “Hello to you too, Theo. Wanna run that by me again?”
or: theo's a selkie, and he's trying to figure out if his new college roommate is a merman or not while also trying to deal with stupid things like feelings

𝑺𝑭𝑾🌿
・You’re light in not only Stiles’ life, but the whole group.
・They come to you when life feels too much.
・You’re there with the kettle on, ready to hear their problems and read their tea leaves
・There’s always an animal worming their way around your legs, either a cat or one of your dogs
・You adopt as many animals as you can, usually from Alan Deaton, the vet.
・Scott likes you because you bring a sense of calm to Stiles’ chaos
・And Stiles didn’t realise he had a crush on you until Scott pointed it out.
・You constantly have to bring Stiles back down to earth. His mind is constantly racing and thinking about the next problem
・Stiles couldn’t help but fall in love with you. You were always so kind to him. When everyone else thought he was ‘too much’, you couldn’t get enough
・ It was your smile that did it for Stiles. That sweet, sometimes mischievous smile.
・You originally thought Stiles was one of those sceptics that brushed the existence of magic as mere fiction
・But Stiles was the first one to believe in your witchcraft:
“We have werewolves, Banshees and god knows what else. A witch seems the most realistic.”
・When the group doesn’t have any leads, they come to you for help. It’s not easy being a witch. It uses a lot of energy. You can do locating spells, but it drains you a lot
・Stiles hates coming to you for help because he knows how much it physically costs you
・Some teenagers like to graffiti your home - but they can only do it once. You’ve cast a spell so whoever tries to do it again loses their ability to talk normally
・It also means you know who’s been doing it
・Because parents panic and news always travels around town, the graffiti is next to non-existent now (also because Stiles makes sure to clean it off before you notice)
・He can be very, very stubborn. And often thinks he knows what is best.
・But he’s also ... very honest. So you know when he’s lying (he’s so bad at it):
     “Stiles...tell me the truth.”
“The truth is ... that ... I ... am...- okay god stop looking at me like that.”
・Likes cuddling A LOT. But is fussy, and if he can’t get perfectly comfortable, then he wants to be the little spoon.
・Is a really heavy sleeper, and whenever he stays over at your place he’s the last to wake up
・LOVES when you make his favourite food. Literally falls in love, not even being dramatic. His mind is like ‘this is the one. I’m keeping them.’
・Loyal to. a. fault. Will die for you, will do everything in his power to keep you safe and out of danger. That’s another reason why he doesn’t like getting you involved in the supernatural stuff.
・You know exactly what he’s thinking, because you can see it clearly on his face.
・ “Stiles, do you tell my secrets to Scott?”
“Ugh, not the really secretive ones?”
・Sheriff Stilinksi loves you, he thinks you’re great for Stiles. You make his chaos less ... chaotic. He was a bit apprehensive about your witchcraft at first, but then he had the same outlook as Stiles. “At least you’re not a ...hellhound or something.”
・Stiles NEVER fails to make you laugh
・You find the most random things in his car. Ducktape, a metal baseball bat, keys to many, many buildings, rope. You asked him if he had a first aid kit, since he had everything else, and his eyes glazed over.
“I KNEW I was forgetting something. God!”
・You make protection amulets for him, and give him crystals. He doesn’t understand but takes them wholeheartedly anyway
・His favourite crystals are labradorite (”because I like when it shines, duh”), malachite and blue tiger’s eye
・Vending machines are his mortal enemy and if he sees one he forbids you from using it (you use it anyway)
・Having weekly meals at his father’s place
・You were really really good friends with Allison, and her death was heavy for you.
・Adores going to metaphysical stores with you. He picked out a deck of tarot cards (wants to pay but you never let him. So he tries to gift you as many things as you’ll need, so he can buy them)
𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒀𝒐𝒖: You’d think he would be very open with nicknames for you. But he’s very embarrassed by it. Not embarrassed of you, but of showing you verbal affection. After being in a stable relationship for a while, he would start calling you names like ‘sweetheart,’ or ‘honey’, especially when you weren’t listening to his warnings
𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆: Physical Touch and Words of Affirmation. He’s always on the go and can feel like you aren’t a part of his world. But you always make sure to leave little trinkets in his pockets or in his car.

In the shadows
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski x reader
Warnings: Violence
Chapter: 1.12
The feeling of being dragged underwater is what wakes you, and when your eyes flutter open, you’re surprised to be in a hospital bed and not a pool of water. Your body, which is covered in bandages and bruises, aches. Two nurses are in the room as well, both looking concerned, but neither of them say anything.
You look around the sterile room and notice Sheriff Stilinski yelling at Jackson. At least that jackass was alright. Suddenly, all the fear comes flooding back. Peter's face flashed before your eyes, his eyes glowing red as his jaw opened, sharp fangs replacing his human teeth.
“No!” You lunge forward. “Stiles run!”
Hearing your sudden outburst and yelling his son's name, the sheriff tries to enter the room but is denied access. Your parents had gone out of town to visit friends the previous morning, so I guessed they hadn’t returned to Beacon Hills yet.
One of the nurses begins fidgeting with the IV bag, which is attached to the cannula in the back of your hand. You notice her injection has something to it. “Hey, what the hell?”
Everything quickly becomes blurry; you struggle to keep your eyes open, and when you do manage to, you instantly feel sick, noticing the walls around you keep changing. You look up and see a man in scrubs pushing your bed, with the same nurse who knocked you out beside him.
“Peter?”
Smirking, Peter pulls down the mask covering his face. “I always said you weren’t dense, Mori.”
“I don’t understand; explain it again.”
Peter rolls his eyes and lets out a dramatic sigh. “I’ve already told you the plan twice.”
“You probably shouldn’t have drugged me then.”
He puts one of his sharp claws underneath your chin and says, “Careful.”
“Stiles won’t help me hack into Scott’s laptop until he knows you’re safe and sound." His voice oozes with sarcasm. “I need both Scott and Derek to kill the Argents.”
“Scott will never help you.”
“Oh, he will.” Peter pulls out a mobile from his pocket and dials; the phone only rings for a few seconds before someone answers. “As promised, I’ve not harmed her yet.”
“𝙼𝚘𝚛𝚒, 𝙼𝚘𝚛𝚒!”
“Stiles!”
“𝙰𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚘𝚔𝚊𝚢?”
You didn’t know how to answer him. Your cuts and bruises were beginning to heal on their own, but you were stuck alone in a room with the alpha. “I’m with Peter.”
“Time to hold up your end of the deal, Stiles.”
“𝙾𝚔𝚊𝚢, 𝚞𝚖, 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚖𝚎 𝚊 𝚏𝚎𝚠 𝚜𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚜.”
Peter smiles with a strange look in his eyes, twirling your hair around his finger while you listen to Stiles typing on a laptop through the phone.
“𝙸’𝚟𝚎 𝚐𝚘𝚝 𝚒𝚝. 𝙸𝚝 𝚜𝚊𝚢𝚜 𝙳𝚎𝚛𝚎𝚔 𝚒𝚜 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚔𝚎𝚙𝚝 𝚊𝚝 𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎.”
Peter slams the phone down, causing it to break. He seems lost in the light for a while before turning to you and running his claw along your jawline before pricking your skin just below your ear enough for it to bleed. "Fascinating." His eyes glow slightly as he watches them heal. Peter shifts his gaze to meet yours. “Did you know your brother is back in town?”
“K—Kyle?”
“Yes, and we wouldn’t want anything to happen to him, now would we?”
You shake your head and say, “No, what is it you want from me?”
“The Argents want to leave, but you're going to get Kate and Allison to Derek’s location within the next hour.”
“And in exchange, you won’t hurt my brother, Stiles, Scott, Derek, or Lydia?”
He nods.
“And what if I can’t?” Tears roll down your cheeks. “I don’t know Allison that well; she wouldn’t just skip plans on leaving town to hang out with me.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll tell you exactly what to say. And if you tell anyone what we are planning, even Stiles, you can kiss your parents and brother goodbye.”
As you step further into the forest, you realize that you don't know what to do or how completely out of your depth you are. You did exactly as Peter said and called Allison and tearfully told her Scott had lied to you as well about being a werewolf, but you knew where he was and wanted to confront him.
It hadn’t sunk in how big of a mistake you made until you saw both Kate and Allison welding weapons when they got out of Kate’s car. You felt even more unease when Kate handed you a pellet gun. “Do you know how to handle this?”
“No,” you say, shaking your head, and try to push the gun back to her. “I’ve never even held one.”
“Take it,” she says firmly. “Trust me, we are dealing with rabid dogs whose only purpose is to kill.”
“She’s right, Mori; you need to be able to protect yourself.”
It was sad to see how brainwashed Allison had become. Reluctantly, you took the gun from Kate.
You were trying so hard to keep your brother and friends safe from Peter that you hadn’t thought about the Argents trying to kill them. You clear your throat. “What are you planning on doing to Scott once you find him?”
Kate slows her pace, so Allison can’t hear anything her aunt says. Kate cocks her brow and says, “Whatever's necessary to stop him from harming Lydia. Is that going to be a problem?”
You remain silent. Stiles had texted you, saying Kate was the one who set the fire in The Hale’s house, killing everyone.
Kate was a cold-blooded killer; at least that’s what you kept telling yourself to justify handing her over to the alpha to protect your friends.
“Shh,” Kate says, putting her fingers to her lips. “You hear that?”
Allison nods, but you look around clueless until you spot Derek and Scott walking towards what remains of the Hale house. Out the corner of your eye, you notice Kate raising her gun, and without thinking it through, you kick Kate in the shin and say, “Scott, Derek, run!”
Kate throws you to the ground easily and holds you there while pointing her arrow at Derek.
“You don’t need to do this,” you plead. “Allison, you’re not a murderer; just let them go.”
She ignores you and shoots Derek in the shoulder and then in the leg before firing a flash bolt. The flash causes your vision to become fuzzy, and the feeling of being dragged underwater returns.
You feel weak as someone helps you stand. “Derek?”
“You good?”
You nod. “Are you; you’ve just been shot twice?”
Shooting a glare in Allison’s direction, he scoffs, “I’m fine.”
Hearing a clattering sound coming from his home, he shoots his head in that direction. “What’s wrong?”
“Scott’s in trouble.”
“Go, go.” When Derek lets go, you stumble slightly but hold onto a tree for support.
You feel like you’re burning up, but there’s nothing physically wrong with you. You roll up your sleeves to look at the bite mark on your arm and are horrified to see it was completely healed. The sudden urge to scream overtakes you, so you do. As you scream, you feel a wave of panic and frustration as the sound of rushing water overflows all your other senses. You only come back to reality when you feel a familiar warmth of arms wrapping around you.
You don’t even need to open your eyes to know who it is, “Stiles.”
“It’s okay.”
When the smell of smoke fills your nostrils, you open your eyes to see Peter's burning body falling to the ground. Squeeze Stiles tightly. “What am I?”
He whispers, “I don’t know, but we’ll figure it out, I promise.”
You cling to Stiles as Scott chases after Derek, begging him not to kill Peter. “Wait! You said the cure comes from the one who bit you. Derek, if you do this, I'm dead. Her father, her family—what am I supposed to do?”
Claws extend from Derek’s nails as he raises his arm up.
“Wait! No, no! Don't!”
Derek slashes Peter's throat, then slowly stands, and I’m a distorted voice saying, “I'm the Alpha now.”

Gulping down, you shove the phone into your pocket; you couldn’t think straight with different messages coming through at once.
“Where do they think you are?
“At home, I guess.”
“Why did you come here alone?”
Derek lets out a dark chuckle as he walks across the creaking floorboards. His house was dark, and the only part of him you could see was his glowing red eyes. But unlike with Peter, you didn’t feel scared; you knew Derek wouldn’t hurt you.
“I want to know what I am.”
