Comeback & re-introduction
Hi! I disappeared around October last year, but I'm back now and thought I should re-introduce myself!
My name is Essi, I'm from Finland and I'm turning 29 (on March 6th). I'm a university student and I major in German language & culture and minor in communications and Japanese language & culture. My native language is Finnish and my target languages are English, Japanese, Swedish, German and Arabic. I'm also interested in linguistics, especially historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, language revitalization and (second-)language acquisition. Nice to meet you!

مرحبا. كيف حالك؟ What are your favourite resources to learn Arabic?
مرحبًا! أنا بخير وأنت؟
Thanks for dropping an ask, Essi! It's crazy how long it's taken me to answer but I suppose that's life these days.
Lately grad school has been taking all my time, energy, and attention, so I've unfortunately been neglecting Arabic. Up until this fall, I had been using my local library's subscription to Mango Languages to focus on Levantine Arabic phrases in context. To acquire and maintain some MSA vocabulary, I did the Duolingo course and for a while had a good streak reviewing those words on Quizlet. Lastly, I was rounding things out with a Routlege Essential Grammar (Author: Faruk Abu-Chacra; ISBN: 978113865958) from @salvadorbonaparte's wonderful MEGA folder.
Even with so little of the language under my belt, it's come in handy around Spain and talking to friends in my department.
Happy new year, my dear!!

Did you get any fun language stuff for Christmas?
Unfortunately there were no grammars or other fun language learning surprises under the tree for me this year. *cries* In truth, it's all for the best—I'm in the middle of a major language project and can't afford to get sidetracked.
HOWEVER, I was gifted Stromae tickets as an early Christmas present and got to translate throughout the concert. It was amazing. (:

مرحبا. كيف حالك؟ What are your favourite resources to learn Arabic?
أنا بخير الحمد الله
To be honest I don't really use a lot of Arabic resources apart from what I get from my classes. But my teacher recommended this dictionary which I think is pretty good!
I also like to watch Obayd Fox’s videos. He speaks in Arabic sometimes / has Arabic subtitles so his videos are like exposure to the Arabic language for me. His videos are also of pretty good quality :)

Hello
Do you have a post that shows resources to learn Japanese?
I don't have one unfortunately, and I've been saving this ask so that I could make a compiled list for you, but I just haven't been able to find up the energy :(
instead, I'll simply say that my favorite resources from when I first started learning especially are wanikani and Tae Kims Guide To Learning Japanese! I know some other blogs like @salvadorbonaparte and @tealingual have resource compilations, if you'd like to check those blogs. good luck on your studies!

Moltes gràcies per taggearme, @quatregats! 😊
Last song: London Boy by Taylor Swift
Currently reading: Der Hund/Der Tunnel/Die Panne by Friedrich Dürrenmatt (I've been reading this book for ages, but a colleague lent me a book, so I had to stop reading it. I finally finished the other book last night, so I'm now devoting my full attention (and limited time) to finishing Der Hund/Der Tunnel/Die Panne, hahaha
Currently watching: currently watching the last episode of 三体 (Three-Body). Highly recommended!
Current obsession: my master's thesis (I really like my topic, but I'm procrastinating a lot lately. I also don't have a lot of time or energy after work 🙃)
I tag @fluencylevelfrench, @lemonadeandlanguages, @marilearnsmandarin, and @tealingual (no pressure! I know I'm being annoying today with tag games 😅).

I'm so going to do @tealingual's Langblr News Challenge over the next months - I will post about a news article once in two weeks, seven articles in total. And in fact, because I've just finished a novel, to balance things out I'm going to attempt watching news videos from BBC News हिंदी to practice listening comprehension. The neat thing is that each of their videos is accompanied by a short description which gives me some indication of what the video is about but still leaves the majority of the news to be discovered from the video.
Langblr News Challenge 1/7 - Twin Tower demolition in Noida
के मद्देनज़र - in view of, in light of (postposition)
चिंगारी - spark, flame (feminine)
विध्वंस - demolition (masculine)
Comments and corrections for my Hindi are always welcome ^^
Re-posting this because my blog refused to show the original reblog fully for some reason??
