this generation of kids is so fucked and it’s so depressing to watch in real time. the amount of parents that are like “my preschooler got covid/rsv/had to be hospitalized but it’s ok because kids get sick all the time” is so……in 20 years or so when these kids are in early adulthood we’re going to have an increase in autoimmune diseases and chronic respiratory illnesses along with heart conditions and strokes due to repeated covid infections and researchers are going to be scratching their heads on the cause and ignoring that we let kids go back to schools mid-pandemic with no disease mitigation and then ignored a second respiratory disease resurgence

I gotta say after being laid off last year it's now a massive fucking bummer to have to go on strike at the new job after being there for just one (1) month because of management and government decisions that screwed everyone over like 6 years ago.

Like honestly hey uh everyone I get it, I know this is for the Greater Good and all but I've been unemployed for a year because the video games industry I Literally Cannot Afford To Do This Right Now.

When fighting for lgbt rights in the European Parliament, do it in Ed Teach colors. (I swear it's purplish, ok?) I got to meet amazing people who are fighting the good fight, and I spoke about the effects of the anti-lgbt child protection law in Hungary. Loved it!

School leaders unions are balloting or considering balloting for the first time in history.

This should tell you something about the shocking state of education in England right now.

Schools have been cut to the bone (check out schoolcuts.org.uk to see the impact in your area btw), and it’s thought more is coming. Schools can’t recruit and the situation is only going to get worse.

If you have children, or plan to have children, or just care about the future at all, this should bother you.

if you want someone to shout at, shout at hbo max for cutting the show and not paying their actors and writers and the crew !! the creators need our support more than ever because of the strikes, if you haven't forgotten !! stop yelling at them and start yelling at the greedy companies!!

I never understood why people have such contempt for the concept of unions and strikes, even people who would actually benefit from supporting them.

Ronald Reagan. He founded his entire campaign on the idea that unions and strikes were greedy, exploitative and wrong, and fed that into conservative dogma for decades. When the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization did a strike in 1981, since their long hours and lack of breaks actively endangered the planes they were meant to control, Reagan secretly hired a bunch of scabs and then fired ALL 11,000 of the strikers as soon as he could. The entire air industry was in jeopardy, but the months of pre-strike negotiations gave Reagan time to find the scabs and to turn public opinion against strikes. When accidents and problems began to happen, as is inevitable for when thousands of professionals are replaced by amateurs, he bribed the airlines to keep quiet about them.

By the end of the year the PATCO strike was in the business school books and the way to deal with strikes was to break them and to spread propaganda that strikers were selfish lawbreakers making life harder for Good American Citizens just because they were greedy. Employers would actively encourage people to strike, so they could replace union workers with non-union workers. It was a crippling blow to the labor movement and one that we've all barely begun to walk back from. The occupation of air traffic control never fully recovered.

Just went to my first labour day march! Walked with the teacher union, held up my flag, yelled! It was great! If you don't have a union, fight for it! If your union is shit, fight to make it better!
