I've been wracking my brain trying to find out who exactly Detective Noel might be and I think I have a vague hand wavy idea.
I know people want it to be Parker, Kayne, or even the KIY but I think Arthur would have recognized Parker's voice even if John struggled to recognize him, Kayne was pointed out to have never known about the lighter, and the King seems like a long shot, but not altogether impossible. However!
Way back in season 1 we learned that the book that had once held John was actually addressed to Roland Cummings, a retired private investigator who owned 13 Mosby Avenue (Arthur and Parker's office) and as of now is MIA after the police found the body of his wife in the freezer and the neighbors suspected he fled to Canada (Part Two: The Missing Girl). He's also the father of Amanda Cummings, one of the missing girls who was later killed by the King (because of Arthur, whoops). Now, his office was leased out to Elijah Strong and his partner, Teddy Caine before being taken over by Arthur and Parker. Elijah had committed suicide in prison and we later find out that the Butcher was the one who actually killed him. As of right now we have no definitive answer as to what became of Teddy Caine.
Arthur's engraved lighter came from the desk of their office.
My reach is that Detective Noel is either Roland Cummings or (less so) Teddy Cain. I'm leaning more towards Cummings simply because he had seemed the most knowledgeable about The Horrors™️ and was in fact sort of the catalyst to the entire series being the original receiver for John's book. And it's also possible he and Arthur never really met. It would also make sense as to why he's working under a different name because he would still be under suspicion after what happened with his family near Arkham. Teddy Caine I'm less sure about because all we know is that he worked at the office for a time and had a run-in with the Butcher.
Detective Noel could also literally be none of these people or someone else entirely and I'm just thinking too hard. But ooh the possibilities! They make me [stick figure gore]

good morning, I've been up for hours and already had my plans completely derailed by THIS IS CHICAGO, a podcast that's just 7 minute snapshots of various Chicagoans talking about their jobs, or something that means something to them, no voiceover or even framing device beyond the bing-bong sound that the El doors make when they're about to close.
I've been sitting at my kitchen table with a cooling cup of coffee for hours now. Who knows if I'll get back to my actual paying job today.

Ok still thinking about navigating the Camlann apocalypse as a teacher. Five of your students are now named Jack. You have to set up a meeting with Hansel and Gretel’s parents immediately (though you already know what kind of parents they are.) Ok so that Jack has a sister named Jill. Maybe you’ll get them some helmets. The school is on high alert for any Pied Pipers. You’re desperately trying to the story of every student when you get a new student who comes in sniffling. And he’s got a pocket full of posies.

I am obsessed with how narratively convenient Lark's divinatory abilities are. She's the only one of the protagonists who is both pragmatic and has a working sense of self-preservation, so having some internal impulse that is actually the guiding hand of the cosmos pushing her into doing the REALLY stupid shit is both necessary and really useful.
Like, I am the type of writer who kind of scoffs at the idea that characters are beyond the writer's control and will completely screw over your outline, because on one hand, a sensible outline will follow the characters' personalities and tendencies anyway. Obviously in an ensemble cast you will need to do some wrangling, but in theory your characters are responding to varying degrees of stimuli in order to maneuver them into the places you need them to be for things to all come together in the end.
But more importantly, "curse from god" is the funniest and easiest way to push any character to do things beyond the realm of reason when necessary, and frankly, what the fuck is the point of playing god if you don't embrace that?

what are your Sibling Rane headcanons 👀
FOAMING AT THE MOUTH. OK OK.
they were born into the faith in a very zealous family, but for some reason they have little contact with their parents (and younger sibling)
theyre very young, like 18-20, during season 3 (for reference i hc faulkner to be 19ish in s1 anc probably around 22 in s3)
theyve been on like 2 pilgrimages, which were both relatively low stakes but successful, so they really feel like they need to prove themself some way other than a pilgrimage (being faulkner's right hand is a way of doing this)
they really, really look up to faulkner and want his approval badly. Rane is a victim of his cult leader charisma like everyone else, but its not just that - faulkner is a young, devout, successful and loved member of the faith, eveything rane wants to be. they arent necessarily jealous of him, but they certainly long for his position
they see faulkner as the ultimate conduit of the trawlerman and have sacrificed the long-held traditional beliefs of their family to follow him
they fear that if their family found out about their denomination changing, theyd disown them, or worse
thats why they really need faulkner to be the "right choice" to follow, so theyre justified. they also think that by fully committing to faulkner's cause, theyll be less accountable if he's proven wrong - victim of charisma, like i said
thats why they curse carpenter so vehemently, even though they must see her as an almost legendary figure from their childhood stories
i think that covers it.... im so normal about this character with like 2 appearances and 4 lines sibling rane i love you

I know how I mostly reblog popular audio drama stuff. Because I love and adore it, yeah
but also? my brain is full of smallest stories being amazing.
While my own post is. less. in the sea of Everything I love about that medium…
I do appreciate and give all the stars to every podcast that make my soul sing.
This space is very divergent and yet I don’t feel like an outsider anywhere
All the warm and fuzzy feeling but horrific monstrous stories being directly told in my ears
(yup I can’t add more tags but I do give my heart to more indie podcasts to live there)
