for the au ask - what about an au where joker is dead, killed by someone other than batman, by the time jason is resurrected? Jason would still have his anger at bruce, but i'm wondering how do you think he would confront bruce if the joker was dead? would he still have his big monologue without the "you have to shoot me or him" part?

this is sort of what I do in my young justice wip: around two, three years before the story starts, harley killed the joker in one of their ~domestic disputes (which jason had some experience with in his robin days).

and to be clear, the joker being dead is a net good. it's good for jason to find out about it, explicitly. jason has some memory issues (among others) and hearing about the joker's death "unblocks" some of it; I'm not being subtle about it lmao. metaphors~~

but I also think it would kind of... take the wind out of his sails tbqh. because he would've wanted that confrontation. if jason had nothing to do with the death, even indirectly, and he hadn't gotten to confront bruce about the joker, I can't imagine that sitting right with him. in extreme cases, I can see him become passively suicidal, even, unless he can find something else he decides to make his whole personality about :)

in the young justice wip what he does instead is pour all that drive he has into damian, who's 3yo at the time. jason had been in a caretaking position before that, but he raises to a whole other level afterwards, and turns that passion and that righteousness into this one small-picture, extremely personal cause.

whether in that 'verse or in a comicverse au, a confronation between jason and bruce would have to happen, imo (I mean, not necessarily, but if I'm writing it jason would get that catharsis!). it would be a different one, depending on the context. I doubt it would be a confrontation that jason seeks the way he does in canon; he wouldn't see the point of it anymore. the point of trying to reconnect with bruce, which is what was going on there in its own fucked up way. in fact unless circumstances conspire and bruce finds out about jason on his own, it's likely jason stays away and keeps his identity under wraps. it would have to be bruce who seeks out jason, which would be tricky because bruce is BRUCE lmao (yj!bruce is not that bad, thankfully). this wouldn't be because jason no longer cares for bruce (that's never gonna happen), but because he's given up on the idea of bruce caring for him, of bruce giving him what he needs in any way, iykwim?

(this last paragraph also applies to my idea of aus where jason ends up killing the joker himself, pre-utrh. doing his own emotional soothing as always smh, what did he even think he needed bruce for xD)

Uncovering, Unraveling (working title): Imagine Marinette had accidentally outed her Loveybug identity (as in Woven In) to Cat Walker in the (Un)Suited plotline... basically Farewell Gifts but make it smut lol

The Merits of Bagging a Hero (working title): Adrien and Marinette are invited at Alya's and Nino's place for their usual wine&dine night. Everything is going fine, Mari being flustered and Adrien being oblivious as usual - until Alya brings out the topic of hero-specific free passes and the two become inexplicably passionate about who would be the best hero lay between Ladybug and Chat Noir...

Poker Face: Loveybug AU, Cat Walker angst

Heart(s) on Her Sleeve: Companion piece for Poker Face, Loveybug's side of the angst

Tbqh the biggest motivation for getting this done is getting it over with, which is probably why I've been having so much trouble tackling it lol. I'll just say that I initially intended it to end with platonic Mariwalker buuuuut there may be some smooching hehe

Turns out I'm a SUCKER for scenarios where Cat Walker learns Marinette is Loveybug lol I will have a lot of fun writing the surprise conversation (won't go too much into details bc spoilers) they'll have about his feelings... with Adrien still inside Marinette, both of them deliberately avoiding addressing the fact or doing anything at all abt it lol

This will be 200% crack and I will have SO MUCH FUN writing the most batshit stuff I can come up with. Alya, ever the shit-stirrer, figures out Adrien is Chat Noir halfway through the conversation and spends the rest of the fic basically eating popcorn and fanning that trashfire of a debate lol

Chat Noir is a necessary outlet for Adrien. When Cat Walker has to pick up Loveybug's slack, his energies and enthusiasm are slowly but surely drain until the only reason he dons his mask, the only reason he gets out of bed, is Loveybug's unrestrained and unconditional affection. This can't last - and yet, it's his duty to carry the weight and not let anything show. I'm gonna enjoy writing the pressure building >:3c

There's one phrase to describe Loveybug!Marinette: bracing for punishment. She's too raw with all the Loveybug intensity, she just CAN'T turn into Ladybug, so she just keeps pouring her heart out knowing that at some point, somehow, she will be horrifically punished for it. Just like with Kim. Just like every time she tried to confess to Adrien. But as a hero, the consequences of her mistakes could be... she doesn't want to think about it. She keeps her head low and prepares for the worst, dreading and longing the moment when she'll be forced to wear Loveybug's lovestruck smile again.

Anyone I would have thought to tag Kayla has already tagged, with the excellent exception of @asukiess, so I won't be tagging anybody else! Feel free to join in the fun and consider this a soft tag if you (yes YOU reading this rn) want to tho :3

Notes: This fic fundamentally changed me as a person, like, woah. I don't know what to say about this except, I love angst, from the bottom of my heart, but I've had the sequel on my tbr for over a year and I am, hands-down, terrified of it. It has a happy ending!! But christ, the angst. Her writing in general is an absolute gift which is not at all why I jumped at the first chance to bother her about it lmao, so like, recs for all of her stuff - 100/10 would recommend, just bring some tissues.

Notes: If you want some stellar morgwen angst, atlanta's fics are the way to go; she single-handedly dragged me into the pairing, and I've been stuck here ever since, much to her joy and regret, so !! Also morgwen aside, if you like your Gwen with some goddamn agency, she got you <3

Deluge by Suaine [Merthur | 50k | M | no warnings]

Summary:

In the aftermath of Merlin's battle against Nimueh, the rain seems a minor complication, perhaps even a cleansing influence. When the rain doesn't stop, Camelot is pushed to the brink once more. This time, Arthur may be in over his head. Contains: a lot of wet boys in emotional scenes, Arthur knowing more than he lets on, Merlin being an idiot, both of them being a bit stupidly heroic, telepathic chess, rain (lots of), war, making out against a tree, coincidental druids, co-opted history, co-opted myths, magic, coming of age (metaphorically), and more magically annoying yet surprisingly un-floody water than you can shake a stick at.

Notes: This is such an insanely good, insanely underrated fic! The vibe of it is just really specific in a way I can't really explain, the plot is super unique and intriguing, and the writing is an absolute gem. Also I'm just a sucker for a good characterization of Arthur and ohhh boy does this one deliver.

Summary:

Arthur and Merlin are friends, and each others go to for the in between times, but maybe they were together all along.

Notes: The only other modern au on this list, but SO deserved - I love tropes that get flipped a bit, so oblivious!Merlin is already a win in my book, but then there's just... I don't want to give away too much, but there is something so damn special about the resolution of this fic, it makes me want to cry every single time. Like. god. the love, it's all about the unconditional love, at the end of the day! mwah!!!

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)?

hm no wants are particularly coming to mind at the moment. there was, of course, the time i wanted some combined fe3h routes. you provided wonderfully and i stopped really looking for others at that point. read 'em when i saw 'em, but didn't dig 'em out.

i would still love a dimitri vs felix roleswap au. chloe's conception of that was fantastic.

36. Do you visualize what you read/write?

writing:

sometimes? but i think mostly i 'hear' or 'feel' it. i get fragments of dialogue or prose or a shape of how the scene is supposed to 'flow' (see below discussing the rhythm of a scene). visuals come, but not that often. for rhythm, it's something like this:

[Dialogue, no action tag] (gohan thinking about something totally unrelated and just going off about that experience) [Dialogue, no action tag] (More internal thing) "lmfao space case if you've got this much of an attention problem no wonder we always kick your ass. do you need Ritalin or something. do they still make that now, i can't tell how much industry we've smashed"

sometimes i'll get a clear image, though. for that fic, 17 casually forming an energy blast to kill people, and gohan stepping in front of him and taking the heat of the forming blast against his hand and telling 17 he won't hurt anyone here—that was a strong, early image.

reading:

tbqh i often visualize metaphors much better than i visualize descriptions. on my best days, i'm a 3

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?

as a consequence of outlining, i've been able to cut down on wordiness/fluff. without outlining, i often would have a feel for the flow of a scene and how it needed to feel 'rhythmically,' in terms of stops, starts, places to pause, etc. but i had to find my way to the conclusion, and that often meant extra words. outlining means i can figure out the overall structure and then focus on writing only the words i need. i can surely still improve here, but it's a major step up.

The s1 Flint spontaneous male lactation gender character arc fic where it's 13k of Silverflint from frenemies to lovers to spouses in one scene to be SURE.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 43!

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 562,348, which is honestly insane

3. What fandoms do you write for? right now mostly stranger things. I've got most of a ted lasso fic written but who knows if that'll get posted?? and prev, harry potter.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1. don't take this sinner (dramione, marriage law ish), 2. same as it ever was (steddie, two timelines, one of my first steddie fics!) 3. carve your name into my chest (steddie, the hockey au of my dreams) 4. come get your man (he got lost in my DMs) (steddie, social media, steve being a horny DM guy) 5. there'll be a riot (cause I know you) (steddie, the matty-healy-rat-man-Eddie-vibed mostly smut fic)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? ugh. I WISH!!!! I want to be better at this, I really do. I usually start strong but I end up with limited energy/time and I want to filter that into writing more. if you've ever commented: I FUCKING LOVE YOU and think you're SO cool! if you really WANT a reply, the best way to get that is to ask me questions haha. it starts to feel weird just "thank you!"ing everyone, ya know?

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I am.... not an angsty ending person tbqh! I think the closest is probably you love the sea, which is a flintwood rarepair selkie fic that I deeply love. it ends happy, insofaras they end up TOGETHER, but if you think more about the implications and how fucking sad it's going to be for oliver... well. I'll leave that to you guys.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? god, I'm well known for having "endings so happy they border on absurd", according to one person online. so, pick your poison I guess! anyways the fic THAT person was referring to was same as it ever was, so, let's go with that!

8. Do you get hate on fics? I have been so lucky lately to not get much hate at all lately, which is a real privilege in the fandom world. remember that I cut my teeth in early days of harry potter, and people were BRUTAL. I definitely HAVE gotten hate - my aforementioned dramione fic has a bit of a weird twist that some people were PISSED about (and once I got an incredibly detailed comment about how badly I fucked up my representation of black Hermione because she... didn't talk that much about hating her hair? which I know is AN experience but not necessarily a universal one) but overall, at least this fandom go around, no hate. thank you, everyone, for that!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes. lots and lots and lots of it. mostly kinda kinky and pretty much all pretty gay. let's not talk about how many times I've had to tag dacryphilia and what that means. I just like when people fuck about things, yknow?

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? nope, never! and I likely never will. too much to keep track of.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not that I know of, thank god for that.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've had requests but... I would need a translator willing to work pretty closely with me because I want to make sure certain choices come across well, and I haven't found that yet.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? not officially, though I did write a buckingham companion piece to the amazing cowboy-bar fic @riality-check did!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? OH GOD don't make me choose! ALL TIME is still probably dramione, but steddie is a very close second. in terms of canon ships, I'm such a sucker for buffy/spike (leave me alone), and veronica mars/logan (AGAIN LEAVE ME ALONE) and rory/logan (BECAUSE RICH WHITE BOYS NAMED LOGAN ARE A WEAKNESS, APPARENTLY)

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? pour one OUT for you can't take the sky from me, which is my firefly inspired harry potter au ft pansy/percy, mostly because I had so many big plans for it that I've completely forgotten AND I just can't write in that fandom at all anymore. sorry everyone, I do love what I put out and I wish there was more of it.

16. What are your writing strengths? prose, smut, tying things together with little bows, and spending way too much time in my characters heads

17. What are your writing weaknesses? dual POVs, getting so lost in one character I don't flesh out the others as much as I mean to, action sequences, and consistent motivation

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've done it before (mostly in clean ice, cold hearts, can't lose) and my typical strategy is to indicate that the characters are speaking a diff language (in french, I use guillements and italics) but not to actually WRITE the french, unless it's very short and the POV character doesn't understand it on purpose like in carve.

19. First fandom you wrote for? harry potter baby! my oldest posted fic that I've found online was from 2002, when I was... too young to be interacting with the internet like that, that's for sure.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? carve your name into my chest and it's no contest. I love same as it ever was as well, which I think is a better WRITTEN fic technically speaking, but carve was a huge passion project that I had so much fun with, and the response to it had been one of my favourite things in the world. oh, and special shout out to make this inn our own, which is my second longest fic ever and was just an absolute joy to do. so, those three, I guess!

Questions for fic writers: 9, 16, 26, 41

9. How do you find new fic to read? - every day, several times a day, i check my ao3 dashboard to see if i got any new comments, and then i hit the Hunter | The Golden Guard (The Owl House) tag and see if any new Hunter fics have been posted that i want to read.

sometimes people will recommend me fics that do not specifically involve him as a tagged character, and every so often i venture out of my current fandom fixation into a new one, but i pretty much always have a particular character or grouping of characters that i want to read about, so i primarily sort by character tags.

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)? - i really love the Tag Team TOH au, and in general the entire concept of "what if Belos ended up getting Luz before Eda did?"

TOH specifically is also a canon that i think makes for a fascinating adaptation into a more mundane realistic setting - i also really love the fic Clawthorne's Landing, which is a mundane human au where Hunter runs away from his abusive uncle and ends up working at a farm run by Lilith in exchange for room and board. it's such a specialized little look into the author's personal area of experience and i love when aus show me a new way of looking at the world that i haven't experienced before!

i also theoretically enjoy the idea of like, social worker aus, where characters end up encountering Hunter specifically bc he gets removed from his uncle's custody due to various horrific abuses, but i have yet to find one that i actually like reading in practice.

i would also absolutely LOVE to see some kind of au where somehow Belos ends up dying before the Day of Unity and Hunter ends up on the throne, because i love me some tasty political intrigue. i want the full ASOIAF treatment here.

26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue? - oh, probably no dialogue. it's entirely possible i have WRITTEN fics with no dialogue? actually, Become Ungovernable comes pretty close because the only dialogue in it is a brief flashback to the canon scene that happens immediately before the fic starts.

but yeah i'd definitely find it much easier to write environmental descriptions or meandering internal monologue rather than all dialogue.

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.” - oooh gosh well tbqh every time i read a well-written fic i have a minor crisis of feeling like because that isn't my personal exact style, I Must Be Doing It Wrong, but!

The_Resurrection_3D has written a handful of TOH fics which are all my favorite entries in the "wow, there is something Fucking Wrong with Philip Wittebane" genre, and i love his style a lot. it's poetically gorgeous and communicates quite a lot with relatively few words (a thing i am very much not capable of lmao) and i also really admire the way he plays with style and structure and format.

i also really love the fic what we are is the sum of a thousand lies because of, specifically, how absolutely fucking funny it is, while still feeling very in-character. written humor can be hard! i like to think i'm funny but that's really up to peer review, right? anyway though, the sort of wryly understated ridiculousness of the entire situation and the verbal exchanges here, contrasting with but never undermining or overshadowing the emotional impact of the situation itself, are just very good and something i definitely strive for myself.

Flat on his back, Okuyasu’s arms tremble, struggling to hold off the brunt of Josuke’s weight. Made difficult by the way he keeps lunging in, poised atop Okuyasu. Fingernails scrabbling for purchase on the ground, bloodstained teeth gnashing around a scarf. It takes all Okuyasu has to hang on. His hands are cramping, the ends of that scarf wound around them. A flimsy fabric barrier between Josuke’s mouth and his skin, very much breakable but it’s all he has. Rather. It’s all he dares to use. Hurting Josuke would be – Okuyasu can’t. His heart is jittering frantic in his chest, and his eyes keep blurring with tears. He blinks them away as fast as they come. Has to keep it together, because this could get real bad in a lot of ways if he loses focus. It’s hard. Faced with empty bloodshot violet eyes that are all glazed instead of sparkling like they should be. Like they used to be. Months and months ago.

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write? Bruno Buccellati - 8/10 times I will sit down to write his POV and my brain goes "I Have Never Met This Man Before In My Entire Life". The other 2/10 times he's thirsting after Abbacchio, which easy for me to grasp, 😌 I also struggle a lot with Lee Cheongsan, the handle I have on his character is so slippery and fleeting. But he's new to me, still, so we'll see.........

Any chance the vamp machina au will become a bigger thing? I just really like these snippets. Also, if I may have a question about it, is it dnd kinda vampire or more like folkloric kinda vampire (like, yeah im sure dnd is somewhat based on folkloric lore but i mean in terms of like abilities and such)

i mean, it's a possibility! right now, i have no plans for an mfl-style long fic, but i super duper enjoy the lil things i've been writing, and i am definitely open to any headcanons or ideas anyone wants to throw my way, or any prompts for the au.

so like, my base standard for a vampire is always the vampires of the vampire diaries, bc imho those vampires are the most interesting and have the best lore to work with as a writer, so i imagine the vampires of the vamp machina au to be a bit darker and edgier than that. but they're not like pure evil, unsalvageable monsters (like percy believes). tbqh, i'm making it all up as i go, so feel free to shoot your own ideas my way!

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

Easily a tie between Dream a Little Dream of Me, Deus in Absentia and the entire saga involving my OC, Karina (and by whole saga, I genuinely mean the six-eight fics that encompass her existence).

DALDOM: I somehow managed 30k words in like three months, it's surprisingly popular, and I've never written a soulmate AU before (and I'm not well-versed in the tropes that go with it, so I'm kind of winging it but not).

Deus in Absentia: So much lore fuckery, especially because it was written pre-Lazzo trailer and leaks. Mostly proud of how I managed to keep it to the length I intended. I said "Only 10 chapters" and it somehow stayed that way during the writing process.

Of Blood and Sparks/Spillways: Mostly proud of characterization but also of canon details remaining as true as possible. Also of how willing I am to stick to breaking lore/how far I can push breaking lore lol.

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?

Characterization tends to be my strong suit, along with descriptions. I sometimes lean too heavily on describing a setting or a detail that, in the grand scheme, isn’t important. But I love creating richness, if that makes sense.

I’d make a case for tension but that’s only applicable in certain situations.

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?

Grammar and pacing. My sentences are sometimes structured awkwardly, for one, and I love commas and semicolons too much. Pacing can be hit or miss; I may gloss over some stuff to get to a specific point or not build up proper tension or conflict as strongly as I could have. I think I’ve gotten better with it but only because I’m beginning to see the beauty in dragging stuff out and denying my characters what they want.

18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?

Most of my fics are fairly tame by average standards. Maybe my Office AU where Dottore kicks a printer? I actually don’t know tbqh!

33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?

I often ask myself, “How can this be more painful?” and then proceed to add that to my outline. If my characters can’t work towards their goals and overcome other situations, they don’t deserve their goal lol

well rsd aside i'd like to say i handle it well? bc usually the criticism is from You and it invariably makes every story better & more cohesive, i cant recall a time where i ever felt the need to like fight abt any critiques bc they all genuinely helped

FIRST OF ALL: gosh, it's nearly midnight in my timezone, and i am going to sob this just means so much. like. it really has been months, and you guys are still interested??! 😭 find me just... a mess on the floor. i love you. I LOVE YOU ALL

secondly: good news! yes, i am planning to update the fake dating fic again ❤️❤️ i know i have been promising chapter 6 for, well, months, but the thing is, the fake dating au is my baby. it's my first multi-chap, it's still one of my fondest ideas, i love love LOVE it. and because of that -- i cannot give you guys a poorly written chapter. nope. i won't do it. if i publish chapter 6, it needs to be excellent first.

and unfortunately, the month of november has been a bit... ugh, just, horribly hectic with work, first off, but then also just grey and dreary and altogether miserable tbqh. i haven't been able to whip my brain into shape/find inspiration to write much of ANYTHING longer than, well, a few sentences. (that is why i did - and am still doing! 😘 - the 5 sentence prompts thing.) it's working! i think it's working. my brain fog is lifting a lil, for sure. (but please do send me more 5 sentence prompts. just, you know, in case i get stuck again. also i love attention xx)

ANYWAYS. so. the first thing i want to write now is a sewis tribute fic. because - well, if you can't tell from the URL, i am quite deeply in my sewis feels at the minute.

once i've done that though... 🤔🤔🤔 you know, i do feel like the fake dating au is well due an update. how better to warm the winter than with some silly fluffy piarles wedding fake dating, right? so if my brain/writer's block cooperates/gives me peace, i would love to have chapter 6 posted before the month is out ❤️

i've quite a lot of fandom projects lined up for the end of the year (fic exchange, birthdays) so i don't think i can commit to weekly updates again anytime soon. all i can say is: i am not abandoning the fake dating au. and i mean that with all my heart 💙

How many do you have?) oh god. well. uh. the easy answer is i just write whatever i'm feeling in the moment? i'm not on any schedule and i'm not like, being paid to write LMAO so i just work on whatever wip happens to be sparking joy on any given day. sometimes i will lean toward specific pieces i.e if they're like, a gift piece for someone?? right now i have a gift fic i want to finish in the next week or so but i have RAT BRAIN WRITER BLOCK but we'll push thru that surely. i guess also when i was doing commissions regularly those would take precedent over anything else bc you know someone's relying on me to get it done re: how many i have. i have quite simply lost count lmAO upon glancing at my mcyt folder on goog docs i have at Least 20 aus (almost certainly more) running rn and most of those aus have like, sub-aus + about a dozen fics included so. simple answer is Too Many

DGHDA: Honestly, I have more brotps for DGHDA than real ships. But my first thought for OTPs was Pantlas. I also like the idea of Tina/Farah.

Wearp: C'mon, you know me. It's Bobo/Jeremy. My little rarepair.

Monk: Reading one of the spinoff books really got me into the idea of Randy/Natalie/Sharona. I should really try and write/draw something for it. I HAD THOUGHTS™.

DGHDA: Hmmm, I did quite like the idea of Farah/Dirk/Todd back in the day. I feel like most of my poly DGHDA are actually bigger than OT3s.

Wearp: Wyndolliday truther tbqh. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REAL. But more on brand for me Jeremy/Doc/Bobo and Jeremy/Doc/Wynonna do things for me. Also, unpopular opinion but listen, Rosita/Nicole/Waverly.

Dndads: Glondie!!! Aka Glenn/Ron/Jodie. The vibes are insane are you kidding me?

3.NoTP?

Tbqh, I'm not sure I have NoTPs for any of these fandoms in terms of ships I viscerally dislike? They're more in line for the next question. More often me disliking a ship is due to oversaturation?

That said, as far as dndads, ships with the omega daddies kinda squick me out. Glad people are having fun shipping them but no thank you, I do not want to think about it.

4. Is there a popular pairing you don’t necessarily dislike but aren’t too invested in?

Oh boy are there!! As stated above, I can get easily oversaturated with a popular ship I just don't care too much about.

Oakson (Darryl/Henry) just kinda lost appeal for me from oversaturation. It's fine, I get why people like it. Not personally seeking it out. I also think I harbor a bit of bitterness towards Glenn/Darryl/Henry, or polydads that doesn't include Ron. Which, objectively it's fine that people don't want to ship Ron, I know this. He can have a meaningful relationship with them regardless, but just *sighs*.

I also don't personally see Sharona/Monk.

Waverly/Nicole also has a bit of an oversaturation problem for me, where I like them, but I get a bit tired of it being such a large amount of the fancontent.
