Soft jazzy tunes floated through the air, drowned out by the chatter of customers as you headed back up to the front counter, a smile plastered on your face. Your cashier looked almost beside herself as she tried to get the terminal to work. “I’m here,” you said, drawing her attention. You could see the tears threatening to spill.
You felt your heart hurt for the poor girl. Amara was a hard worker but she’d never worked the holiday season with you at your bakery so she wasn’t prepared for the volume of orders, especially on Christmas Eve.
It was your fourth holiday season so you were falling into a practiced routine by this point. The rush, the influx of customers and orders, and of course, the Karens. Seeing as you were the owner of the establishment, you got to choose how to deal with these difficult customers as you saw fit.
The perks of being the boss.
Leaning in, you whispered in her ear. “Go into the back and take a break. I got this.” She nodded and thanked you, slipping past you and through the back door as you turned to greet the customer in front of you. “Sorry about that,” you said softly as you exited the program on the computer and rebooted it.
“It’s her first Christmas working with us,” you explained. “How can I help you?”
The man in front of you rolled his eyes and you could already tell what kind of interaction you were about to have. “Maybe this place should hire competent workers,” the man snapped angrily. You kept the smile on your face. “We do hire competent workers,” you replied. “But we’re all human and we all get overwhelmed and stressed from time to time.”
The man scoffed. “It’s unprofessional.”
The smile finally slipped from your face. “It’s unprofessional to be a human being?” you asked, a hint of confused annoyance to your voice. “It’s unprofessional to get emotional at work. It’s a place of business.” You narrowed your eyes. “And it’s childish to berate and scream and curse at an eighteen year old girl,” you snapped back, taking the man by surprise.
“How dare you speak to me like that,” he said indignantly, puffing up with an air of superiority. “I want to speak to your manager!” ‘Ah… the magic words,’ you thought to yourself, smiling inwardly. “I’m sorry, sir,” you replied. “The manager isn’t here right now.”

Mingyu cursed to himself as he walked, tripping over the curb but thankfully didn’t fall. He continued to the back passenger door of his car, opening it before leaning down to grab the paper sacks, balancing them precariously in his arms as he attempted to close the door with his hip.
Only once it clicked shut and the car beeped, signaling it locked, did Mingyu walk away, heading down the sidewalk towards the bakery. He’d gone to grab some last minute supplies as you had run out of a few spices and some extracts. He’d also grabbed the stuff to whip up a pre-Christmas Eve dinner for you and your workers.
He cursed the busy sidewalk and businesses lining the street for making him park so far away and having to walk the rest of the way to the bakery. He knew the place was busy but he didn’t realize how busy it was going to be.
Upon reaching the bakery, he swore under his breath as he realized his hands were no longer free to open the door and let himself in. Lucky for him, a patron chose that exact moment to exit, their purchases in their hands. They held the door for him, allowing him to enter the establishment. Mingyu thanked them and hurried in where the crowd seemed to have doubled in size.
As he reached the counter, he set the bags down, opening the small door before grabbing the bags and moving to the back where he set them down, looking around. He caught the eye of one of your bakers and gestured at the bags. “Could you unload these for me. I’m gonna pop up front and help Y/N,”
The baker, Geoffrey, nodded and moved over to the table as Mingyu shrugged out of his coat, hung it up, and grabbed an apron, tying it on before heading out into the store front where he saw you standing at the register, arguing with an older man who was red in the face.
Mingyu walked over, ready to launch over the counter at the man who was currently shouting at his wife.
“What’s going on here?” Mingyu asked, announcing his arrival. The man looked up from you, giving Mingyu a once over. A smile of relief spread over your face. “Perfect,” you said. “Here’s the manager,” you said, turning back to the man and stepping away from the terminal to help the next guest while Mingyu took your place.
“What seems to be the problem, sir?” Mingyu asked, knowing before the man even spoke what he would be dealing with. It was a sort of code between the two of you, calling him the manager was just a way of setting up the rude customers to realize the consequences of their actions.
Most of the time, when Mingyu entered the equation, they would demand that you be fired for being incompetent or rude or refusing to give a discount. It often led to hilarity when Mingyu, keeping up with the charade, would insist he can’t do that before revealing that you were the owner.
Which is what he was prepared to do but he didn’t have the chance when the red-faced man spoke.
“I’ve never been treated so poorly in an establishment in all my life!” he shouted, drawing the attention of most of the customers, some who were already recording the exchange on their phones. “I’m friends with the owner! I should call him and tell him what an awful bunch of employees he’s allowing to run his business.
Mingyu kept the fake smile on his face. “Oh, you know the owner?” Mingyu asked, to which the man nodded, pulling his phone out. “I’ll call him right now!” he threatened. Mingyu shook his head. “Don’t worry about it,” he started, picking up the phone. “I’ve got the owner on speed dial,” he added, pushing a series of buttons. He waited for the first ring before handing the phone to the man.
“It’s ringing,” he said. “You can talk to the owner yourself.” The man snatched the phone and held it to his ear, grumbling about finally getting real service. Mingyu waited by the terminal, apologizing to the customers waiting patiently behind the man.
You felt your phone buzz in your pocket and apologized to the customer in front of you. She was a regular so she understood that when the boss’ phone rings, the boss had to answer it. You checked the screen and saw it was the number for the store calling you. Resisting the urge to smile, you excused yourself to the customer and swiped the green button, bringing the device to your ear.
“Hello?” you asked, glancing over to where Mingyu stood, giving you a devilish smile, the irate man holding your store phone to his ear. “Yeah,” the man snapped. “I want to speak to the owner of this bakery. Where is he?” Still fighting back that smile, you responded.
“Oh, that’s me. I’m the owner!”
The man looked up from the phone, turning his head to lock eyes with you. He then pulled the phone from his ear and looked at Mingyu. “What is this? She’s the one who was rude to me!” Mingyu took the phone from the man, hanging it up. “Yeah,” Mingyu replied. “She’s the owner. If you’re going to lie about knowing the owner, at least do your research about the place you’re trying to scam,” Mingyu said, looking up at the man, his smile now gone. “Also, you’re lucky I love my wife too much to cause a scene in her establishment. So either we can start over from the top and you can be nice or you can get out and never come back,” Mingyu said, crossing his arms over his chest.
“It’s your choice.”

“Thank you, come again!” you called, waving as the last of the patrons exited and you walked over to flip the sign, turning the lock on the door and turned around to look at Mingyu who was counting the drawer. You walked over with a sigh, giving Amara a smile as she started to sweep.
“Thank you for handling that customer,” Amara said softly. “He reminded me of my dad and I just couldn’t…” she trailed off. You placed a comforting hand on her back. “It’s alright, Amara,” you told her. “I don’t deal with customers like that. I give them one chance to start over and if they don’t, they don’t get served. I’m not going to let customers walk all over me or my employees.”
“Babe,” Mingyu called, making you look in his direction. “Can you take over for me? I’m gonna get started on that dinner.” You nodded, moving around to the backside of the counter and over to the terminal. “Thank you,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to your cheek and disappearing into the back.
You started counting, adding to his progress as Amara continued to sweep. She reached the counter and glanced at the door before leaning on the counter. “Miss Y/N?” she asked, making you look up with wide eyes. You hadn’t noticed she’d gotten so close. “Yes?”
“It might be a little personal but can I ask you something?” You nodded as you finished counting the drawer and shut the drawer, keeping the till in your hands. “What’s it like, being married to the nicest, most handsome guy in the world?”
You let out a laugh at her question. You weren’t laughing at her, just at the wording. “Don’t let Mingyu hear you say that,” you said softly. “It’ll fan his ego even more.” Amara smiled but waited for your answer all the same. “Being married to Mingyu is like having a massive, overly excited golden retriever but it can talk. He’s nice and always happy,” you explained.
“But he’s also clumsy, loyal, honest, and trustworthy,” you continued, shifting your weight to your other foot. “He’s a people pleaser,” you added. “Always wanting to help or be involved in some way, which is why he’s making dinner for the staff right now.” Amara’s smile widened.
“You really hit the jackpot, didn’t you?” she asked in a dreamy voice. You smiled, nodding. “I certainly did,” you replied, making your way over to the door to the back. “Taking the kitchen assistant position at summer camp when I was in culinary school was probably the best thing that ever happened to me.” Amara tilted her head. “Why’s that?” she asked.
“That’s where I met Mingyu.”
Amara went back to her sweeping while you entered the kitchen, eyes landing on your husband as he stood at the stove, a steaming saucepan on one of the back burners as he stirred something in a skillet. You tore your gaze from him, heading for the office instead to finish up your closing duties.
As you separate the cash transactions, resetting the drawer to its starting amount and putting the sales away in the safe. Shutting the door, you returned to your desk to finish up some paperwork you’d been putting off. As you were filing it away, you heard a knock on the door and looked up at one of your employees. “Hey, is it alright if I take off? My wife and the baby are waiting for me for Christmas Eve dinner and I really don’t wanna keep them waiting.” You smiled up at them.
“Sure, Candy,” you answered. “Make sure to take one of the extra pies on the counter. And tell Bethany I said hello,” you added. Candy smiled at you, thanking you as they headed back into the kitchen. You heard them call out a holiday parting to Mingyu who repeated the sentiment.
Getting up from the desk, you walked over to the door and peered into the kitchen. Mingyu was plating the finished food and looked up as you entered the kitchen. “Candy just left,” he announced, returning his gaze to his work. “I know,” you replied, walking over to where he stood.
“I told her to take one of the pies,” you added. Mingyu looked up at you before looking at the counter where the pies stood. “I hope they didn’t take the cherry one,” he pouted as he went back to his work. You rolled your eyes playfully, leaning against the counter.
“The cherry is already put away for us.” you replied, smiling when your husband looked up at you with excited eyes. He finished spooning sauce onto the food and returned the skillet to the stove. “So,” you started, looking down at the plates. There were four of them. “What have you made for us today, Chef?”
Mingyu moved back, standing in front of you, his hands landing on your hips. “I like it when you call me that,” he murmured, leaning in to press a kiss to your lips. “Makes me feel all tingly.” You pushed him back playfully. “Alright, pervert,” you replied as Amara and one of your chefs, Finn, walked into the kitchen. “Dinner is served,” you said, narrowing your eyes at Mingyu.
“Tell them what you’ve made,” you added, turning to face Amara and Finn.
They were your two youngest employees. Amara was still in high school but wanted to become a pastry chef like you and Finn. Her parents were both successful in business and from what Amara let on, they weren’t very involved in her life except financially so she had come to see you as sort of an authority figure, likening you to the older sister she never had.
Finn, on the other hand, had moved across the country, settling in this town and finding work at your bakery the year it opened. Finn’s family were back in his hometown and he could never afford to fly home to see them so you had always made sure to make it known he was welcome to spend the holidays with you and Mingyu.
“I have made for you, pan-seared duck breast with a peppercorn cream sauce and roasted garlic butter parmesan potatoes,” he announced, gesturing at the plates. “And!” he added, rushing over to the fridge, opening it and disappearing for a moment to emerge with two unopened bottles of red wine.
“Could you grab the glasses for me?” Mingyu asked and you shook your head, walking over to your office to grab four glasses. Amara looked nervously from the bottle of wine to you and back. “Am I… allowed to have wine?” she asked softly. “I don’t want to get in trouble.”
You smiled as you returned. “This one,” you said, tapping one of the bottles on the lid. “Is my favorite wine and is a non-alcoholic wine by Leitz.” You could see the relief wash over Amara’s face. “And this one is a Jacques Bourguignon,” Mingyu added, tapping the other bottle. “It does have alcohol.”
You rolled your eyes as you opened the bottle of Leitz, pouring a glass for yourself and one for Amara as Mingyu opened and poured a glass of the Bourguignon for Finn and himself. The four of you stood in the kitchen, sipping on your wines and cutting into your food.
“This is amazing!” Amara said with a sigh. “I had no idea you could cook so well!” Laughter burst out of you as you sat on the counter, nursing your glass of non-alcoholic wine. Finn doubled over, clutching his stomach in laughter as Mingyu looked slightly offended.
Amara glanced from you to Finn, confusion on her face. “What did I say?” she asked, pouting. You patted her shoulder from your spot. “Mingyu is a chef,” you answered. Amara’s eyes widened comically as she started sputtering an apology. “I’m so sorry! I had no idea! I thought he was just really good at cooking!” You stifled more laughter with a sip of your wine.
Mingyu shook his head. “It’s okay,” he replied. “I don’t really talk about it much,” he continued. “But I actually own a restaurant.” Amara’s eyes widened even more as she started apologizing again. “It’s okay!” Mingyu reassured her and you smiled fondly, watching your husband comfort the poor girl.
After eating, Finn headed out after you refused to let him do the dishes, telling him you and Mingyu had it covered. You headed back into the office to check your calendar and finish the rest of your paperwork while Mingyu and Amara worked on cleaning up the kitchen.

At about half past 7, you decided you were done with your office duties. Anything you didn’t finish today you could finish the day after Christmas. You stretched your arms, flexing your fingers before getting up and opening the door to see how Mingyu and Amara were getting on.
“Have you finished cleaning up,” you asked, peering into the kitchen to see your husband standing at the counter. He looked up, meeting your gaze. “Not yet,” Mingyu answered, lowering his gaze back down to the bowl of frosting on the counter. “I sent Amara home,” he added, glancing back up as you entered the kitchen, moving over to stand beside him and starting to collect the decorating tools.
“Her parents are hosting a party so I said we can manage,” Mingyu continued. “Hope that was okay,” he added and you nodded, looking up at him. “Of course,” you replied, looking back down as you gathered the icing bags and tips. “I don’t mind cleaning up the kitchen with my husband.”
Mingyu’s smile widened, leaning in to press a chaste kiss to your cheek. “Besides,” you continued, dropping the tools in the hot soapy water and moving back to grab the silicone spatulas. “If she was here I couldn’t do this,” you added, swiping your finger over the spatula you just grabbed, the tip coated in white chocolate sauce. You turned to your husband, reaching up to spread the sauce on his cheek, letting out a giggle as you licked your finger clean.
Mingyu snorted, reaching a hand up to wipe up your mess but you stopped him, pulling his face to yours before licking the sweet confectionary off his skin. “Yah,” Mingyu whined as you pulled back and licked your lips. “I guess it’s a good thing I sent her home,” he continued.
“If she had seen that, I would have been very embarrassed.”
You rolled your eyes and moved to take the other silicone spatula, scooping some of the chocolate sauce on your finger. When Mingyu wasn’t paying attention, you dabbed some onto his face, smearing it near the corner of his mouth.
“Stop,” he chuckled, grabbing the spatula. “I’m gonna be all sticky.”
You snorted into a giggle as you fought your husband for dominance over the spatula. Mingyu took his chance to smear some chocolate sauce on your face, laughing when you stared at him in stunned silence. “Gotcha!” he chuckled. You pulled the spatula free and started to advance on him.
“No!” he squealed, running from you, his long legs helping him cross the kitchen quickly. You on the other hand were just fast, catching up to him and cornering him against the corner counters. “I was just returning the favor!” he whined as you wiggled your fingers, the tip of your index still covered in white chocolate.
“Here,” you said, holding out your hand. “Even the playing field.” You offered your finger with the chocolate sauce on it. Mingyu stared at the spatula in your hand, breathing a sigh of relief when you tossed it into the sink nearby. Mingyu took your hand, pulling it towards his face and sticking your finger in his mouth, cleaning the chocolate off your skin.
The action was one you’d done many times, letting him lick everything from whipped cream to cheese sauce from your finger. He was never one to turn down having your fingers in his mouth. The pent up frustration from the day pushed you to pull your hand from his mouth, grabbing the front of his smock and pulling him into a heated kiss, tasting the chocolate on his tongue.
You pulled back after a moment, your lungs burning and screaming for air. Mingyu turned your head, immediately licking off the frosting on your cheek slowly, taking his time to savor it. You let out a groan, feeling one of his hands wander down, fingers squeezing your ass.
“Your turn,” you whispered, your voice slightly hoarse as you tilted his hand and licked the frosting from his face, ending in a sloppy kiss that tasted like a mix of white and milk chocolate sauces.
“We should probably finish closing up,” you murmured as Mingyu pulled back, resting his forehead against yours. “Yeah,” he replied breathlessly. “We probably should.”
Despite agreeing, neither one of you moved first until Mingyu’s hands wandered up, cupping your chest. “Or,” he offered, pulling back to look into your eyes. “We can finish off these sauces before we let the bowls soak.” You studied his face, looking into his eyes before coming to a conclusion.
“Okay,” you replied. “Go make sure the front door is locked,” you ordered.
Mingyu was off like a cannon, rushing to the storefront to make sure the door was locked, neon sign turned off before he returned to the kitchen as you were pulling out another steel bowl from the fridge and the leftover strawberries. You turned as he started to untie his apron.
“I figure we can eat some of this stuff with the leftover fruit,” you explained, showing him the bowl and the basket of strawberries. Mingyu flashed you a wide grin as you walked over to the counter and set your finds on the metal surface, moving to untie your apron.
You felt your husbands nimble fingers tug at the knots and help you remove the article. You turned, thanking him with a kiss before taking both yours and his aprons over to the hamper and tossing them in. You returned to Mingyu, hopping up onto the counter and picking up a strawberry. You dipped it into the chocolate and held it up for Mingyu.
He smirked, parting his lips and allowing you to push the chocolate covered fruit in his mouth. Mingyu dipped a piece of melon in the cream cheese frosting, holding it up for you to take it. You parted your lips slowly, keeping your gaze locked on his as you leaned forward, taking the fruit in your mouth.
You noticed the way your husband’s eye lingered on your lips, even after you pulled back with a grin.
The two of you continued to feed one another fruit and chocolate sauce. As you leaned back, holding yourself up with one of your hands, Mingyu leaned in, taking your lips in a measured kiss. Your lips parted and you felt his tongue along with chocolate sauce spill into your mouth.
“Come here,” Mingyu murmured, hands reaching up to undo the buttons on your chef smock, his lips meeting yours once more. Once he managed to undo the last button, he pushed the fabric aside, groaning as he buried his face into your chest, immediately kissing at your skin.
“This needs to come off,” he growled, pulling back just enough to undo the front closure on your bra and pull it off of you along with your smock. You groaned, back arching into his touch as you felt his mouth close around one of your nipples, tongue swirling around the bud.
You leaned back, one hand tangling in the mess of his black locks while the other supported your body. Mingyu pulled back, reaching over to grab a strawberry which he dipped in white chocolate sauce and promptly started to trail up your body from your navel. He smeared the sauce up your stomach and between your breasts, stopping to spread some over your nipple before holding the strawberry to your lips. You took it, moaning as his head ducked down to your stomach, licking up the path of the sauce.
Your thighs tightened around his waist as his tongue brushed over your nipple, taking it into his mouth to suck off the chocolate. Mingyu pulled back, moving back up to kiss you again, his hands fumbling with the ties on your pants. “What about you?” you whined. Mingyu chuckled as he pulled your pants down, thanking you when you lifted your hips to assist him.
“You’ll get your turn,” he murmured. “Lay down,” he instructed. You did as he asked, moaning as he kissed his way down your stomach, lips meeting the band of your panties. He stopped to glance up, meeting your gaze before he continued to kiss over the thin lace.
You moaned out his name, spreading your thighs wider as you felt his tongue press against you, only the black lace separating his tongue from where you wanted it the most. “F-ah! Fuck, baby,” you whimpered as you felt Mingyu leaned more into it, heat from his mouth spreading through your soaked panties.
“Just take them off, please!”
Mingyu pulled your panties down your legs, dropping them with the rest of your clothes. His head was back between your thighs quickly, tongue flicking rapidly against your clit as he held your thighs open. Your back arched off the counter, fingers tangling in his hair as you tried to push his head closer.
Mingyu groaned as you tugged on his hair, the sound vibrating against your cunt and sending waves of pleasure throughout your body. “Oh shit,” you gasped, eyes rolling shut as Mingyu licked and sucked at the sensitive bundle of nerves. The slurping sounds, coupled with your mewls and his groans against your pussy filled the room. It was so lewd and almost vile. You’d have to remember to sanitize and sterilize this station before opening back up on the 27th.
Mingyu’s fingers dug into the flesh of your thighs as he held your thighs open, tongue and lips messily moving against your cunt. “So good,” you breathed out, combing your fingers through his hair. You felt one of his hands slide up your body to grope at your chest, kneading gently as he continued to suckle.
“M’close,” you warned suddenly, feeling the tension in your body build, ready to snap at any moment. Instead of pulling away and letting you fall back from the edge, Mingyu drove you over it, tongue flicking in quick motions against your clit, groaning at the taste as you came, your juices flowing out of your pulsating hole.
“Fuck, fuck, fuuuuuck,” you groaned, fingers in Mingyu’s hair tightening as you held his head still, your hips moving of their own accord, grinding yourself on his tongue as you rode out your high. Mingyu pulled away much too soon for your liking and as you were about to protest, he pressed his lips against yours, tongue slipping into your mouth.
“Tastes so good, baby,” he groaned against your lips. “Tastes better than anything,” he murmured as he pulled back. “Y-your turn,” you stammered, trying to sit up but Mingyu held you down. “Later, angel,” he replied. “Let me just fuck you real good.”
You shook your head, pushing him back as you sat up. You made quick work of his shirt, tossing it aside as you turned your head to the chocolate sauce and dipped a piece of fruit into it, bringing it up to Mingyu’s lips before dipping a finger into the same sauce and smearing it across his chest and some down his stomach.
You slid from the counter, lowering yourself to lick the sauce from his skin. Mingyu let out a groan. You stood back up, grinning at him for a moment before grabbing the bowl of chocolate sauce and dropping to your knees. Mingyu watched as you undid the button on his jeans and pulled them down along with his underwear, almost groaning yourself as his cock sprang free.
He was fully erect, tip red and leaking as you let his pants and underwear pool at his ankles. You dipped your finger in the chocolate sauce and carefully spread it along the underside of his cock, licking your finger clean before grabbing the base of his shaft and lifting his cock.
Mingyu’s eyes fluttered shut as you licked a strip up his cock, cleaning the chocolate before swallowing. You then make sure to clean it all up before taking all of him in your mouth quickly. Your husband let out a groan, one hand moving to brace himself against the counter behind you while the other moved to the top of your head, stroking your hair gently.
“Fuck, that’s it baby,” he groaned, hips starting to move in tandem with the bobbing of your head. You let go of his cock, placing both hands on his thighs as you let him guide your movements. His cock hit the back of your throat, filling the room with a wet, lewd gagging sound. You pulled back, looking up at him.
Mingyu could have cum from the sight alone, you naked on your knees, looking up at him with glossy eyes, saliva starting to spill down your chin. “Fuck my face,” you gasped hoarsely. Mingyu didn’t need to hear it again, grabbing your head and guiding your lips to the tip of his cock.
He let out a moan as your head sank further, his cock gliding back into your mouth. He started slowly, giving a few measured thrusts before setting a steady pace, pumping in and out of your mouth. Each pull back, you allowed your tongue to swirl around the head of his cock until he stopped pulling out entirely. You gagged around him as he thrust into your mouth.
Your hands moved up to his hips, pulling him in as you tried to take all of his cock. “Oh fuck,” you heard him groan as the head of his cock slipped into your throat. You gagged around his cock, throat constricting as you tried to swallow. “Ah, shit!” he hissed. He pulled your head back, allowing air to fill your lungs again as his cock twitched.
Your hand moved back, fingers wrapping around him as you continued the momentum, stroking him quickly, spitting onto the head of his cock to add to the lubrication. “Fuck, fuck! Stop, baby!” He moaned, hand wrapping around your wrist. “I’m gonna cum if you don’t stop!”
You gave the head of his cock a light lick, giggling and looking up at him. Mingyu groaned at the sight and grabbed your wrist, tugging you up gently. “Up,” he ordered, helping you back up to the counter before he grabbed his cup of ice water.
“What’re you doing?” you asked, watching as he pulled the lid off and took a tip, tipping his head back. When he lowered the cup, he set it aside, leaving the lid off. In his teeth, he held an ice cube. He leaned forward, leaving open mouth kisses along your collar and chest with the ice cube gliding over your skin easily.
A chill went up your spine, nipples peaking as his mouth moved closer. You let out a gasp, feeling the icy liquid against the sensitive skin of your areolas. Mingyu swirled his tongue, allowing the melting ice cube to move around your nipple.
He pulled back, grabbing the cup and dumping more ice into his mouth. He kissed down your stomach, pushing you flat on your back as his head dipped between your thighs. You felt the ice against your clit and gasped loudly. His tongue toyed with your clit, the cold sensation contrasting with the heat radiating from between your legs.
Mingyu pulled back, swallowing down the ice. You sat up, grabbing his cup and dumped some ice into your mouth, pushing him back as you sucked on the cube. You lowered yourself, to your knees, fisting his cock before guiding the head back to your mouth.
Mingyu groaned out, pounding his hand against the metal counter as your cold mouth took more and more of his hot cock. You bobbed your head a few times, allowing the melting ice to rub along the underside of his cock.
“F-fuck,” he shivered. “Get up here,” he growled, pulling your head back and guiding you back to your feet. “On the counter.” You must not have moved fast enough for him because he turned you away, pushing you over the counter as he guided the head of his cock to your dripping entrance.
You felt him rub the tip around your slit, gathering your wetness and smearing it. You felt him rub his cock against you, rutting against your ass and dragging the underside of his shaft through your folds. “M’gonna fuck you so good,” you heard him groan, guiding the tip of his cock to your entrance again before taking your hips in his hands and pushing in.
You mewled, your walls stretching to accommodate the head of his cock. He stilled for a moment, panting as he tried to hold back but the way you wiggled your hips made it harder and harder and soon, he was bracing himself, fingers tightening on your waist before plunging his cock into you with one thrust.
The sudden intrusion caused you to cry out in both pain and pleasure, the ache and sting of the stretch pairing with the pleasure of feeling him filling you raw with his thick cock. “Lift this,” he urged, grabbing the back of your thigh and guiding your leg up, knee bent as he pushed your chest against the steel.
“Stay just like that,” he groaned, moving his hand back to your waist. He thrust into you, pulling back only slightly before thrusting again, setting a steady rhythm. He looked down, watching his cock sink into your cunt repeatedly, groaning at the sight of your juices already coating his shaft.
“That’s right,” he scoffed when you moaned loudly, fingers curling into a fist as you tried to brace yourself against his thrusts. “Only I fuck you this good, don’t I?” he groaned. You moaned in response, back arching as his hips started to slap against your ass.
“You like it when I stuff you full of this cock, don’t you?” he asked. You nodded, head dropping as you lost yourself in the pleasure. “Y-yes!” you gasped out. “Love it when you fuck my tight pussy with your big cock, Mingyu!”
You were stroking his ego but then again, your husband had pretty good thrust and hip game when it came to sex. He always left you feeling more than satisfied. “That’s right,” he retorted. “You’re such a little slut for me.”
Your walls clenched around him before you started to push back to meet his thrusts. The sudden action had him doubling over your back with a deep groan. “Mm, fuck!” you growled. “Oh shit. I love it when you do that,” Mingyu gasped. “Love it when you fuck yourself on my cock. Keep going, baby.”
You felt him slow his movements but you kept the momentum going, fucking yourself back on his cock, gasping and moaning as the tip nudged your cervix with each thrust. “Oh fuck, yeah,” Mingyu moaned, hands moving to the counter on either side of you, holding him up.
“Keep going,” he continued. “Fuck yourself. Use me like your own person fuck toy,” he added. “Oh god, Mingyu!” you whimpered, thighs shaking as your ass hit Mingyu’s hips with each thrust. “Call me your dirty little fuck toy,” Mingyu pleaded, his voice becoming breathless as he met your movements.
“You think you can tell me what to do?” you asked, glancing over your shoulder at him. “You’re my fucking slut,” you growled back. “Begging me to fuck your cock like some kind of whore.” Mingyu’s cock twitched, a groan escaping him. He made no attempt to move his hands, content to let you move at your own pace for now.
“Good, look at you,” you continued. “Willing to let me use that thick cock to get myself off.”
“How pathetic.”
“I’m sorry,” Mingyu said quickly. “I’ll be good,” he added. “Just keep using me.”
You scoffed, turning your head to look back forward. “I want you to fuck me,” you retorted. “I want you to fuck me hard. Make me scream. Make my legs shake. Make it so I can’t stand tomorrow.”
You felt his hands on your hips. “You sure, angel?” you heard him whisper. You nodded. “Yes,” you replied. “Fuck me, Mingyu. Fuck me hard.” Mingyu didn’t need to be told twice, grabbing your hips hard as he slammed into you from behind, a gasp ripping from your throat.
He set a relentless pace, pounding into you from behind as he drove both of you towards orgasm. “Your cock is so big, Gyu,” you moaned, cheek pressed against the cool metallic surface. “Feels so good. Feel it so deep.” “God, yes, Gyu. Please,” you whined.
“Please give it to me. Give it all to me,” you continued, his cock starting to twitch rapidly, each drag of your walls raw against his cock sending him further and further towards the edge. “F-fuck!” he gasped. “M’gonna cum, baby,” he warned. “Where you want it baby?” Mingyu asked, glancing down at you.
“Inside me. Just cum inside me, Gyu. Fill me up with your cum.”
He groaned, leaning over your back and sinking his teeth into your shoulder, sucking against your skin as his hips slammed into you, his release washing over him. Thick ropes of cum spilled inside you, painting your walls in white.
Mingyu rode out both your highs, thrusting sloppily into you as he forced his cum further into you. When his hips finally came to a halt, he let out a breathy chuckle and pushed himself up, looking down at the indentation of his teeth in your shoulder. He pulled back to see where his cock disappeared inside you, the base of it coated in his cum.
He internally winced as he pulled out, both from the sudden change and from the sight of his cum spilling out of your abused cunt. He gathered some of it with his fingers, pushing it back into you. “Keep that in there,” he said playfully as he looked down at your pussy.
“We need to finish cleaning up,” he murmured, moving to grab a clean kitchen towel and wet it before wiping your thighs and sex clean. He helped you back into your clothes before pulling his own on. You cleaned up the rest of the leftover chocolate sauce and fruit, dumping the bowls into the soapy water that was surprisingly still hot.
Mingyu washed the dishes while you cleaned and sanitized the counter you’d defiled. Once the dishes were clean and you were certain the countertop was sterilized, you returned to his side, sighing as he pulled you into his warm embrace. “Can we go now?” he asked softly, tilting your head back so he could kiss you.
You smiled against his lips, pulling back to nod and answer him. “Yes. We’re done and we can finally leave.” Mingyu’s lips spread into a wide grin. “Perfect,” he responded, taking your hand and pressing it against his growing erection. “Again?” you asked incredulously. He nodded with a mischievous glint in his eye.
“I’m not done with you just yet.”

Broken Compass: Fireflies

Broken Compass: Tales of a firefly
Sakusa doesn’t know how the nickname firefly for his little daughter stuck.
As a rule, he hates insects. Loathes them with the burning passion of a thousand suns, mosquitoes that draw blood in summer (reminding him painfully of Atsumu), flies that buzz about his ears and destroy the sanctity of the cakes you bake on your days off for him (like Bokuto stealing his food from his locker), grasshoppers squatting in his sneakers, beetles crawling over his laundry and he most certainly hates hates hates cockroaches with every inch of his being.
But fireflies. They’re different.
He grew up in the city, where trees are scarce and the shift in seasons is marked by nothing much more than a dip or rise in temperature. But he and Motoyo used to be sent to their grandmother’s home in the countryside over the summer holidays when they were younger and their time less occupied by volleyball practice and camps. He’d hate it to bits, moping about the grass stains on his socks, the incessant chirping of cicadas (in hindsight, they remind him of Hinata), longing for his comfortable bed and neat, orderly room back home, even though Motoya would do his best to draw him out of the shell and into the games and fun he’d organise with the neighbourhood kids.
“C’mon, live a little”, Motoya would always say, a common refrain.
Kiyoomi tries his best, follows behind his gregarious cousin with a reasonable amount of grumbling, but he truly does not enjoy the rough play and tumble that the other children seem to prefer.
One summer evening, the heat so stifling it settles on his skin like a scratchy woolen blanket, he’s dragged out of the house by Motoya.  “It’s already dark”, he grouches, but Motoya, used to his cousin’s cantankerous ways, just tugs him along with a steady smile. They walk and walk and walk, wending their way through backyards until they reach an open field where other children are gathered.
“What are we doing?” he hisses to Motoya, who just shrugs.
One of the older boys whips a  jar out, a flickering gold light gleaming softly against the clear glass. The other kids ooh and aah as he shakes the jar with a shit eating grin, the light fading in and out, the pathetic creature trapped in a macabre dance.
Sakusa Kiyoomi is not one to make a scene, but something snaps in him and he stalks forward, grabs the jar away from the boy before he can react, twisting the cap to let the poor creature escape back into the summer skies.
“Oi!” the boy hisses, taking a threatening step forward.
Kiyoomi just glares at him, taking advantage of every inch of his already formidable height until the other boy shuffles back and the crowd around them disperses, disappointed that the night is ending without any further excitement. He watches the swirl of gold and amber in the purpling dusk, ends up borrowing books from the library about insects, grimacing until he finds the section on fireflies.
He reads about how fireflies have special organs in their bellies that absorb oxygen, combining it with luciferin to glow. Each firefly has its unique flashing pattern, designed to communicate with one another, warning predators to stay away, their blood venomous. They’re fierce yet fragile creatures, their existence in the world beautiful yet brief.
Fireflies should be treasured, admired.
So when he holds Sachiko for the first time, listens to the sound of her soft warbling cries, the soft shine of her brown eyes, he can only think about the fact that the decades he’ll hopefully get to spend with her is still too short a time,  and he needs to spend every moment treasuring the time he has with her, basking in her glow.
“Hello firefly”, he breathes.
She snuffles against his chest. He loses his heart to her light.
He knows he’s an overprotective dad. For his little firefly, he wears his heart on his sleeve, celebrating whenever she does something new even as he mourns each day passing, texting you with photos of her gummy smile, exclaiming ‘I can’t believe we made this perfect, precious being’, laughing openly when she gurgles, fretting whenever she cries. It’s an easy decision for him to take half a year off work so you can restart your career without worry, even though his boss at the JVA blinks at the unexpected request, but he’s not afraid of walking away from the job - he’s not afraid from walking away from anything but you and Sachiko.
“She’s too young”, he argues with you when you first bring up childcare.
He knows that he should get back to his job, that Sachiko will be completely fine in the hands of professionals, that she’ll just toddle happily after Bokuto’s wolfpack of sons, singing songs and drawing pictures and frolicking in the park, watched by doting teachers. But time is a-ticking, and every day that passes is one less day he gets to spend with his little firefly.
“It’s for her own good”, you reply, softly but firmly. He hates that he knows you’re right.
She needs to socialise with her peers lest she become sullen and surly like him, and he needs to get back to work so he can squirrel more savings away for her future.
So he has to let his firefly go, let her share her light and warmth with the world.
Still, there are tears in his eyes on the first day of preschool when Sachiko runs off ahead, hand in hand with two of Bokuto’s sons.
You press a soft kiss to the curve of his jaw. “She’s gonna have fun all day, and we’ll see her at home all evening.”
He’s not even embarrassed that his throat is so tight he can only croak.
It’s a relief when he picks her up in the evening after work. She runs to him, throwing her little body in his arms, chattering to him about the friends she’s made, the drawings she’s made of her ‘to-san, her ‘ka-san and a dog - cos we should adopt a dog, Kouichi, Kouji and Kousuke just got one last week. He shudders at the chaos a dog would add to the Bokuto household and resolves to send Sachiko over there less for playdates (fat hope, his firefly has turned their trio into a quartet).
“But I still missed you, ‘to-san!”
“I miss you too”, he replies, eyes suspiciously wet. “Let’s go home, firefly. Your ‘ka-san’s gonna cook our favourite dinner.”
Sachiko gasps. “Umeboshi fried rice?”
“Mmhm. Smart girl!” He lifts her up, refusing to let her down the entire walk home.
So maybe he can’t freeze time, not even for a second. He can’t stop Sachiko from growing up. He has no right to stop her from spreading her wings, from taking flight from their burrow, her absences growing longer and longer.
But there’s still time for more memories to be made.
In summer, when the entire family is in need of a respite from Tokyo’s sweltering heat, they spend a week or two back in his grandmother’s home. It’s nice bringing Sachiko to the aquarium where she squeals over colourful fish, picnicking in the mountains with umeboshi onigiris, and visiting the zoo. But the highlight of the trip is when you and Sachiko unearth some ancient camping tent from the attic, identical puppy dog eyes round and pleading for him to agree to a night out under the stars.
A barbecued dinner later which Bokuto would drool over, they lie down on the camping sheet with bellies full, watching as the sun fades and the night slowly arrives. There’s a flicker of gold at the corner of his eye, and all his effort setting up the campsite pays off when Sachiko sits up abruptly, her face lighting up with a brilliant smile.
“Look!”
He drinks in the scene. Sachiko and you, spellbound by the sight of fireflies dancing in dusk, identical expressions of wonder on your faces.
“What are these?” Sachiko asks, a few minutes later, after sight before her loses its novelty.
“They’re fireflies, little one”, you reply.
She blinks, processing your answer. “That’s what ‘to-san calls me too!”
“That’s right”, you say. “Cos’ they’re just like you.”
Sachiko stares at him. “Why! Am I a little bug?”
That makes him laugh. “C’mere, firefly”, he says warmly, opening his arms so she can snuggle in. “It’s not cos’ you’re a little bug, silly girl.”
She crinkles her nose up at him. “Then why!”
“Because”, he boops her nose. “They’re amazing and special and smart and beautiful. Just like you, firefly.”
She’s not at the age where she disavows parental affection which she inevitably will be, which he dreads. So he’s thankful that she chirps a sweet “you’re special too, ‘to-san!”, winding her arms around his neck to pepper his cheeks with kisses. Later, when they get home, you borrow books from the library about fireflies for Sachiko, and he’s absurdly happy when she asks him to read them to her every night before tucking her into bed.
“Goodnight, firefly”, he says, turning the lights off.
“Sleep tight”, she mumbles, eyelids already drooping shut. “No bedbugs tonight.”

Observations:
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!! 🎃☠️👻🍫
Tumblr media
This'll be a shorter review than usual since this was a fast read, but man this book was a lot of fun! The premise itself (i.e. certain main characters from the show trapped in the same location interacting with one another) is worthy of an entire episode from the show, and it's disappointing that Netflix and the Duffer Brothers never thought to film a stand-alone Halloween or Christmas or Holiday Episode (similar to what BBC Sherlock did). Even if it didn't tie into the mythology of the show, just seeing certain characters converse with one another when they barely do on the show would have been something I (and plenty of other fans) would have sat through.
The premise of this book is similar to the short Halloween Special comic I reviewed several months ago (you can find the link to it above), except that was set before season 1 and only featured one scary story told by Will to his friends. By contrast, this book takes place in-between seasons 3 and 4 after Steve and Robin get the job at the Video Rental Store, the Byers Family and El have moved to Lenora (meaning they aren't in this book), and each of the characters here get to tell their creepy tales.
The structure for Hawkins Horrors is similar to horror anthology series like The Twilight Zone, Creepshow, and Tales from the Crypt. It also reminded me a little of the Goosebumps series R.L. Stine wrote in the 90s. The big difference is while Goosebumps was tailored towards kids and had elements of comedy to balance out the horror, the stories told by the characters in Hawkins Horrors get pretty dark and gruesome, and some of them even end on chilling notes. This is not a feel-good book.
Each of the stories are urban legends surrounding Hawkins that the characters either insist are true (even though it's implied they aren't), or at the very least have some details tweaked. What's neat is, if you pay close attention, some of the urban legends told are similar to other famous horror stories, and arguably paying homage to them. Robin and Steve's story about the monster under Lover's Lake is the premise of Stephen King's "The Raft." Erica's story is similar to the plot of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (right down to the protagonist in a wheelchair seeing something he shouldn't have) except the climax takes a horrifying turn and the ending is ambiguous about the protagonist's survival. Mike's story comes off as a combination of Child's Play and The Twilight Zone episode "Living Doll." Matthew J. Gilbert wrote this book, and it's pretty clear he's a major horror fan. I wouldn't be surprised if he took inspiration for some of these anthology stories from other famous ones, and brought the Stranger Things charm to them.
On top of that, the book acts as clever foreshadowing for certain events in relation to certain characters in season 4. Nancy's horror story takes place at Pennhurst Asylum, where she will later go with Robin to learn about Victor Creel and what happened to his family. Steve's story about the monster under Lover's Lake hints at how he'll eventually gets dragged through the lake into the Upside Down:
Tumblr media
Dustin's story is centered around D&D, and even references the Hellfire Club and Eddie (though Eddie is just referred to as "The Dungeon Master" at this point). Even Erica's story, about the only sane person who tries to warn others about how dangerous someone else is, has parallels to her being the only one at the town hall meeting in season 4 who stands up to Jason and calls bullshit on his attempts to paint the Hellfire Club as a Satanic cult.........only to get dismissed when most of the adults in the room agree with Jason and turn into a lynch mob as a result.
Hawkins Horrors was released on May 3, 2022, a few weeks before the first volume of Season 4 was dropped. I would not be surprised if Netflix and the Duffer Brothers told Matthew J. Gilbert plot elements from season 4, and gave him permission to subtly reference (but not completely spoil) said plot points. Even though I saw the show before I read this book, I still enjoyed the foreshadowing. Well played! :)
The stories were entertaining, but I was more invested in the interactions between the characters. Two of my favorite moments are at the beginning of the book, and towards the end when Mike starts telling his tale. The first is this interaction when everyone shows up minutes before the Video Rental Store closes, much to the annoyance of Steve:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's this fun bit where Mike trolls everyone while the storm is raging and the power is out 😂:
Tumblr media
It's also pretty amusing when one character tries to tell their story, and the others either question if it actually happened, starts poking holes in it (much to the irritation of the character telling their story), or even calling out when, from their perspective, the tale has a lousy ending:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's interactions like this that make the book enjoyable. I'm glad we get to have most of the characters hanging out as friends without there being a crisis from the Upside Down that they have to deal with.
Overall, this was an entertaining read, and a fast-paced book. High recommendations to check it out when you can!
And once again, Happy Halloween everyone!

Vial of the sun story and what kind of other relics there are?
I missed a few days of writing here because I went on a trip to one of the Islands in my country. It was a fun one-day trip. Now I'm back and ready to write. I got a bunch of new ideas.
The story of the Vial of the Sun was one of Alex's most cherished and closely guarded secrets. It was a tale that had its roots in his early years as a paranormal enthusiast and investigator.
The story began during a summer vacation in the remote town of Silverridge, nestled in the shadow of the ancient Whispering Mountains. Alex's family often spent their holidays exploring the rich history and natural beauty of the region, but this particular summer held a special significance. It was a time when Alex's fascination with the paranormal was beginning to take root.
The town of Silverridge was known for its mystical history, filled with tales of ancient rituals, mysterious disappearances, and supernatural occurrences. Among the local legends, one story had always captured Alex's imagination: the legend of the Vial of the Sun.
According to local lore, the Vial of the Sun was a rare and powerful artifact, said to be created by a long-lost civilization that had once thrived in the Whispering Mountains. This civilization had harnessed the energy of the sun to create a vessel capable of capturing sunlight and storing its radiant essence. It was believed that the vial held the power to banish darkness and reveal hidden passages.
The Vial of the Sun is a unique relic with powerful and protective properties against supernatural entities, particularly those sensitive to light, such as vampires. It emits a radiant essence, creating a powerful, blinding light when uncorked. This light is effective at repelling creatures of darkness, like vampires,
As a teenager with a burgeoning interest in the paranormal, Alex was drawn to the mystique of the Vial of the Sun. He had spent months researching the legend, sifting through dusty archives, and interviewing the town's elders. Their stories had painted a picture of a relic that was both enigmatic and elusive, said to be hidden within the heart of the Whispering Mountains.
Determined to uncover the truth behind the legend, Alex embarked on a solo expedition into the mountains. Armed with little more than a backpack, camping gear, and a relentless curiosity, he ventured into the vast wilderness. The journey was not without its challenges, as the Whispering Mountains were known for their unpredictable weather and treacherous terrain.
Days turned into weeks as Alex delved deeper into the wilderness, guided by maps and cryptic clues from his research. He encountered local wildlife, traversed rugged landscapes, and navigated dense forests. His determination remained unwavering, driven by the belief that the Vial of the Sun held the key to understanding the paranormal world he had grown to love.
Finally, after an arduous climb to the summit of an ancient peak, Alex found himself standing before a hidden cave entrance. The entrance was concealed by overgrown vines and guarded by a towering stone sentinel, whose outstretched arm pointed toward the opening. It was a sight that sent shivers down his spine, for it seemed as if the mountain itself was guiding him.
With bated breath, he entered the cave, his flashlight piercing the darkness. The tunnel led him deeper into the heart of the mountain, and he could feel a peculiar warmth in the air. As he continued, the walls of the cave seemed to radiate a soft, golden glow—a phenomenon that defied scientific explanation.
The cave eventually opened into a vast chamber, where a mesmerizing sight awaited him. At the center of the chamber, bathed in a pool of ethereal light, stood a pedestal adorned with intricate carvings. Upon the pedestal rested the Vial of the Sun, a small, translucent vial filled with liquid that shimmered like liquid sunshine.
Alex approached the vial with a mixture of awe and reverence. It was a moment of profound significance, a culmination of his tireless quest for the paranormal. He carefully retrieved the vial, cradling it in his hands.
As he held the Vial of the Sun, a surge of warmth and energy washed over him, filling him with a sense of purpose and understanding. It was as if the relic itself had chosen him, recognizing his unwavering dedication to the mysteries of the paranormal.
With the vial in his possession, Alex retraced his steps, returning to the world outside the cave. The journey back was no less challenging, but he was filled with a newfound sense of purpose and enlightenment.
The legend of the Vial of the Sun had become a reality in Alex's life, a tangible connection to the supernatural. Its radiant essence was a symbol of his unyielding passion for understanding the unknown.
From that day forward, the Vial of the Sun remained a closely guarded secret, known only to Alex and also to his childhood friend Ran whom he entrusted a lot of his secrets and thoughts. It became a source of strength and inspiration, a reminder that the paranormal world held countless mysteries waiting to be uncovered.
As he continued his journey as a paranormal investigator, the Vial of the Sun served as a source of guidance and protection. Its radiant energy was a beacon of hope in the darkest corners of the supernatural, and it fueled Alex's unwavering commitment to exploring the mysteries of the paranormal world.

Famous Five Art Nostalgia #08 – Part 2
Introductory post
Part 1
In this post, you will find the set of illustrations that featured in the special “Idéal Bibliothèque” collection.
Five Get into Trouble – Le Club des Cinq en péril
Original publication date: 1949 (UK), 1957 (France)
Tumblr media
(Full cover by Jeanne Hives, 1962)
Plot summary (adapted from Wikipedia):
Siblings Julian, Dick and Anne are spending the Easter school holidays at Kirrin Cottage with their cousin Georgina and her dog, Timmy. After George's parents, Quentin and Fanny, depart for some scientific conferences, the Five embark on a cycling and camping holiday.
Tumblr media
(Uncle Quentin doesn’t always know how to deal with George’s exuberance) [Note: I love this picture of George, she looks so cute!]
Tumblr media
(Onwards to adventure!)
Tumblr media
(A pastoral start to the holidays)
At a lake, they encounter a boy named Richard Kent, who wants to spend the day cycling with them. He promises to stay at his aunt's house at the end of the day, if his mother gives him permission. The children agree, and Richard joins them without bothering to request parental permission.
Tumblr media
(A refreshing bath at the lake)
Tumblr media
(Sharing breakfast with Richard)
[Note 1: Oh jeez. I couldn’t read the caption on the previous low-quality picture, but Richard is talking with George about their respective short-tempered fathers, and Richard asks, “Does he hurt you?” The implications are bleak. 🙁]
[Note 2: On a lighter note, Richard gives Timmy a piece of bread and butter in the French version, compared to “a nice little tidbit of roll and anchovy paste” in the original text!]
Tumblr media
(Richard joins the Five on their cycling tour)
Richard is later chased by a car driven by Rooky, one of his wealthy father's former bodyguards, who was fired because Richard had told tales about him. Rooky's associates chase Richard on foot in Middlecombe Woods, where they mistake Dick for Richard and kidnap him. Richard finds Julian and George, who berate him for his mendacity and cowardice.
Tumblr media
(Timmy, Julian, George, and Richard, lagging behind, hurry back to Dick and Anne)
Tumblr media
(Richard is ashamed after being berated by George and Julian for his cowardice, but kind-hearted Anne is sympathetic)
The children trace Dick to Owl's Dene, and on the way Julian observes a man changing clothes and another man throwing clothes down a well.
Tumblr media
(Strange dealings at night)
Tumblr media
(Owl’s Dene’s eponymous guardian)
Tumblr media
(The children’s first sight of Owl’s Dene)
At Owl's Dene, the children sneak into the house but are caught and imprisoned, while Timmy remains outside.
Tumblr media
(Caught!)
That night, Julian finds Dick locked in an upstairs room and discovers a secret room with a man sleeping in it.
Tumblr media
(A happy reunion despite the tense faces)
Tumblr media
(In the morning, Julian makes one of his many delightful quips to a disconcerted Aggie [Margot]. I love how George and Anne just seem to be enjoying the show! 🤣)
Tumblr media
(George orders Timmy to stay down while a car enters the grounds; Timmy is Not Pleased)
The next morning, Rooky arrives and sees his associates have kidnapped the wrong boy. The Five and Richard are nearly freed, but Richard is recognised and they are imprisoned in the grounds of the house.
Tumblr media
(Trapped on the grounds!)
Tumblr media
(Richard is shaken after seeing Rooky again, an attitude for which George has no patience at all)
Tumblr media
(George feeds the household’s chicken with what Hunchy [La Bosse], one of their captors, believes to be poisoned food intended for Timmy. A well-deserved payback!)
When one of the gang members leaves in their car, Richard hides in the boot, narrowly escapes being recaptured and then goes to the police.
Tumblr media
(Richard, with some remaining traces of soot in his hair)
Tumblr media
(Richard at the police station)
When the police arrive at Owl's Dene, Julian shows them the secret room containing an escaped convict and stolen diamonds.
Tumblr media
(Final scuffle with the villains)
Tumblr media
(Dick, Anne and George hide in the secret room along with the escaped convict and retrieve the stolen diamonds)
The Five later join Richard for a meal and praise his heroism.
~~~~~~
Bonus:
Tumblr media
This text appears on the inside of the cover, and gives a teaser for the story… But you’ll see that, for such a short text, it contains a remarkable amount of nonsense:
The first sentence says that the Five are going on a cycling tour to go camping on Kirrin Island. Oh wow, does Kirrin Island have roads now (and a bridge to go there)…? 🤔
The second sentence clearly states that Richard gets kidnapped by strangers in front of Dick and Anne. Sigh… Could these people just maybe leaf through the book to check that what they’re writing is accurate? 😓
The last line indicates the targeted readership. I assume that “F. G.” stands for “filles / garçons”, or “boys and girls.” Okay, fine. What I take issue with is the age limit: “up to 14 years old.” Well, poop on you, I fully intend to read these books well into my 140s! 👻
~~~~~~
Thanks for reading and see you next time!

for the weird asks: 4, 29, 46
Weird asks! Ask me things!
4 which cryptid being do you believe in? I'm pretty skeptical about cryptids in general. I'm very much in the "I want to believe" camp. I like thinking about them, theorizing about them, reading about them, watching low-quality filmed-on-a-potato videos of them, all of that. The Fresno Nightcrawlers have a special place in my heart. But it's always in the back of my mind that there's a logical explanation for whatever someone has seen or claims to have seen, though sometimes the logical explanations are equally weird. It might really have been ball lighting.
All that said, I'd like to believe in Bigfoot. There are so many stories from Native and First Nations communities about beings that sound an awful lot like popular culture's Bigfoot. And given that white people (like me) have a terrible track record of actually listening to Native people when they've explained things (the moai of Easter Island did walk to their places; Squirrel really did teach people about maple sap; the landscape of Australia really was different long ago and people really did preserve that memory) maybe there's something to the really old Bigfoot or Sasquatch stories. I know the stories have gotten all mixed up with European wildman stories and American folklore. Maybe the oldest Bigfoot story is a recollection of an extinct bear, but there's something in there.
Also extraterrestrials. Not that I think they've come to Earth or anything but, to borrow from Carl Sagan, otherwise it seems like an awful waste of space.
29 how do you like your shower water? Hot. Very hot. Extremely hot. Scalding. Boiling. Could make good tea in a cup of it. Just a few degrees below the temperature of lava.
But I like the air outside the shower to be cool (or even cold) because I don't want to overheat the minute I get out of the shower. So I'll open the windows in winter or turn the AC down in summer. Maybe that's weird, but it's also how I like to sleep: cozy under blankets but breathing cold air.
But yeah, mmmmm, hot water~
46 favorite holiday film? YOU WANT ME TO SAY THE CROW, DON'T YOU? Well, that's certainly a favorite holiday film. Gotta watch that on October 30th since that's when the main events in the film happen. But this low budget New Zealand-made Christmas movie called Nearly No Christmas that I saw as a small child is also very near and dear to my heart (any whoever gave it two stars, please turn on your location; I just want to talk). It's kind of about…the problems of capitalism and the benefits of cooperation? Also overthrowing monarchies.
And I love the MST3k episode Santa Claus, which is a slightly bizarre Mexican-made kids' movie dubbed into English. (I like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians too, of course, but Lupita's aggressive cuteness, Merlin's inexplicable presence, the wind-up reindeer, and all the international kids making toys are just too odd. Love it.)
Also Home Alone (the original and still the best) is always fun, even if it is a white suburban revenge story. It's a great movie, don't @ me, but it's still a white suburban revenge story. It's a bit like Hot Fuzz in that all of it's good but the payoff at the end is great.
Never been a huge fan of Nightmare Before Christmas. People have assumed that about me before, which I get, but I'm just not a fan? I'll sing along with "This Is Halloween" and have a good time with it but, eh.
There are a number of movies that I associate with holidays that aren't strictly related to said holiday. I mean, I have a litany of horror and gothic movies that I love for Halloween--like The Crow, sure, but also Crimson Peak, The VVitch, Dario Argento's giallo masterpieces, Ghostbusters (1 and 2 but more 1 than 2; or is that set at Halloween? I can't remember), Dracula (1992), Interview with the Vampire (1994), The Craft, Hereditary, A Tale of Two Sisters (which I can't find anywhere anymore, pieeeen), The Exorcist, Hellraiser (my beloved), weird shit like Beyond the Black Rainbow, non-supernatural horror (or "thriller") like The House That Jack Built or I Saw the Devil, German Expressionism but mostly just The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, Asian Extreme/J-horror like Oldboy or Suicide Club or World of Kanako… I'm down to watch The Blood on Satan's Claw and The Wicker Man (1973) even though those two are set in spring. Don't care, didn't ask, bring me a snack. (I legitimately have a subscription to Shudder, which is an all-horror, all-giallo streaming service and it's pretty good so I can glut myself there. It's not all gold but what streaming service is? But they're the ones who helped fund Skinamarink, so they do know what they're about.)
Honestly, a lot of what's in the top three tiers of this iceberg is or could be a Halloween Favorite (and maybe a couple in the fourth tier if I'm feeling more like a sicko).
You know I tried to watch that Hallmark Christmas Prince or A Princess for Christmas or whatever it was when it was being talked about a bit and I found it so tedious and so uninteresting that I never got more than a half hour into it (if that).

My Pokemon Headcanons part 1
Pokemon Headcanons
Livestock and normal animals exist in the Pokemon world, just not all the ones we have on earth and they are either in special farms for food, in the wild but not noticed because people care more about catching pokemon than mice, or are kept in protected areas for study. - For example, We have seen characters eat meat and regular chicken eggs, Carnivine’s Pokedex entry says it likes to eat small insects and animals, and in the early episodes of pokemon, regular fish have been seen a lot. - While in one episode Ash and Brock imagined eating a sushi dish that looked like it was made from a Magikarp, this could’ve been a dish that was made to look like a Magikarp. - Many cooking techniques in the real world can make a dish look like animals and in Pokemon Cafe Remix all the foods are based on pokemon and even look like them.
The Giant Kangaskaan that was in the early seasons of pokemon (Ep: The Kangaskaan Kid) was a variant of Kangaskaan that can grow bigger than the ones caught by trainers (like how the Indian and African elephants are different sizes).
I believe that Baby Pokemon sometimes look different than the adults. For example, Pokemon that are usually large in size are smaller as babies and don’t have the same features that the adults have (ex: Newborn Trophus are the size of a medium dog and don’t have their fruits yet but they get them as they grow up.). It’s like how deer are born with spots but lose them as they grow. I plan to use this in a fanfic I want to write.
The backpacks that pokemon trainers have function like Marry Poppins’s magic carpet bag. We always see characters with just one small backpack, handbag, or camping bag and yet they can pull out pokemon eggs, tents and sleeping bags, food, cooking equipment, tables, etc.
Time moves differently in the Pokemon world (Ash is still 10). My theory is that they have more weeks in a month, more months in a year, etc. As a result, people age at a different rate than we do, and the Planet Earth in Pokemon is a lot older than our Earth.
Much of the messed up or scary Pokedex entries are outdated theories or based on urban legends. (example: Greavard’s Pokedex says that it absorbs the life from humans, but I like to believe that is an ancient myth that was proven false and that instead, it absorbs energy or heat) I like to think that these were proven wrong, but kept in the Pokedex to encourage trainers to stay safe or investigate if they’re true.
Social issues are still a thing. We know that the Pokemon world isn’t perfect due to the criminal organizations it has, but from what episodes I’ve seen so far we haven’t seen any human slavery or racial discrimination (other than Johto being scared of other cultures but that is just a reference to Japan). I like to think that if there is extreme discrimination, it’s more directed to disabilities, rich or poor social standing, addiction, or if someone has/had a family member that did a crime.
Disney movies, Earth Holidays, and Fairy Tales exist in the Pokemon world, just in a different form or with different endings. - In one episode of pokemon, Misty was in a play about a Mermaid so we know that fantasy creatures are a thing, plus Fairy is a new Pokemon Type, so maybe there have been old stories about fae and cryptids, but some were discovered to be Pokemon. - Also there have been a few Christmas specials, one even with Santa and in Pokemon X and Y there are some references to 101 Dalmations and Saving Mr. Banks.
Charmander and its evolution's tail flame isn’t connected to its life like if you blow it out they die, but more like if they die their tail goes out. - Plus, I doubt their tail flame is so delicate that goes out as easily like if it gets wet in the rain or drags it on a snowy ground. But the Pokedex does mention that its flame gets weak if they are in poor health, so I do believe that it can be at risk if the Pokemon is sick, completely submerged in water, or is at risk of freezing to death. -Basically, the tail flame functions like a heart monitor and is a way to let it and others know if it’s in poor health and is as strong as the pokemon is.
Some forms of Pokemon science, such as vivisection, are illegal and that is why most of the villains are evil scientists that steal or hunt Pokemon from trainers rather than just catch them in the wild. Because they want to use the stronger pokemon for their experiments.
Pokemon can learn more than 4 moves, they clearly do in the anime. Maybe in the game universe, trainers are only allowed to use 4 of their Pokemon’s moves to prevent cheating or too much injury?
No one has seen a female Marrowack breed or a Cubone lose its mom. So no one knows how Cubone got its mom’s skull and it is illegal to breed them to see what happens because no one wants to intentionally make a baby an orphan.
Kids younger than 10 can start their Pokemon journey, it’s just not encouraged and some might need special permission. In the game, there are a lot of NPCs that are clearly younger than the protagonist and in the anime, we have seen a few kids younger than 10 that while not on their journey, have at least 1 Pokemon.
Mewtwo hasn’t completely forgotten Amber and could remember her one day.

Thank you so much for reading! If you like this part, please reblog as it helps spread my stories around! As always, this is a work of fiction and all characters are not reflective of their respective irl counterparts. for entertainment purposes only.

smut warnings: unprotected sex (use protection lol), oral (kinda lol f receiving), fingering (f receiving), dirty talk, dom!Jeonghan, sub!Reader, Jeonghan is pretty pathetic and kind of impatient and he has to hold off from nutting too early 💀 multiple orgasms (f receiving, m receiving), creampie (yum), cumplay, orgasm denial (f receiving), overstimulation (m receiving), sex tape & pictures, and I think that’s all but as usual, if I missed anything, let me know!
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
The only thing Jeonghan hated more than his job was his job during the holidays.
Bartending wasn’t the greatest career choice but he did make a decent amount of money and it was only temporary as he finished getting his master’s. He just hated the rush and influx of customers that the holidays always brought. With more customers came more money but it also came with more complaints and more drunken idiocy.
“How was class?” one of his coworkers, Matt,  asked as Jeonghan stepped behind the bar, setting his bag down under the counter. “Exhausting,” Jeonghan replied. “I’m glad the term is over for the holidays.” Jeonghan moved around his coworker and to the terminal to clock in.
“They’re expecting it to be busier tonight,” Matt continued. “Busier than usual?” Jeonghan asked as he turned to look at him. Matt nodded. “The busiest night of the year,” he continued. Jeonghan snorted, shaking his head. “New Year’s Eve would disagree with you.”
Matt let out a chuckle. “According to Jerry, he thinks tonight will be worse than that.” Jeonghan shook his head, glancing over to the door where he saw a line of people waiting to be let in. “He always hopes it’s going to be busier every year,” Jeonghan replied.
“It’s just wishful thinking.”
Tumblr media
An hour later, Jeonghan was mentally cursing himself and wishing he could take his words back as they seemed to have cursed him in his willful denial.
Not only was the club packed but every order that came through the computer was complex with the patrons ordering some of the more complicated menu items. He was partially cursing himself for agreeing to work the night before Christmas Eve shift. He usually had it off to do Holiday stuff in favor of working on Christmas Eve but this year, he agreed to cover Analiese’s shift and she would cover his Christmas Eve one.
It took another couple hours for the flow to die down but Jeonghan was still busy manning the printer, making drinks for all the orders that came through. It was his preferred station, meaning he could just do his work without having to interact much with the customers. Occasionally, he’d have to make a few orders for the patrons at the bar but more often than not, one of the other bartenders would have that covered, allowing Jeonghan to work in peace.
“It’s calmed down a bit,” Matt said as he walked over to use the terminal next to where Jeonghan stood. “I’m going to the bathroom. I’ve had to piss for like two hours. Can you cover the bar for me?” he asked as he started to untie his apron. Jeonghan looked up and nodded. It had been a few minutes since an order came through the printer for him to make.
“Go ahead,” he replied. “I got it.” Matt thanked him and took off, ducking under the open side of the bar and disappearing into the crowd. Jeonghan turned, putting on a fake smile as he greeted the patron closest to him, asking them for their drink order.
Mixing was one of the few skills he’d managed to pick up in his initial round of college; going to house parties and learning which liquors tasted good together as well as the ratios. He honed his skills over a couple years and eventually got his first bartending job at a small hole in the wall. He didn’t get to experiment much with that job as most people ordered wells and beers.
His second bartending job was at an upscale restaurant, mixing drinks like cosmopolitans and manhattans. It allowed him to be a little more creative. It wasn’t until he got to his current job that his creativity really started to flow and he started mixing things together.
Jeonghan finished making a round of drinks for a group of friends gathered around the bar as Matt returned, patting him on the back before grabbing his apron. “Thanks, man,” Matt called over the music as he tied his apron back on and went back to work.
The next couple hours went by as Jeonghan had hoped. The night started getting later, turning into the wee hours of the morning. The club had started to die down, many of the patrons drunkenly stumbling out the front door to find their rides home. Jeonghan was wiping down the counter when he saw movement from the corner of eye.
He glanced up and he was sure his eyes widened comically. His lips parted as he felt his breath suddenly catch. He stood frozen on the spot looking at the person who had just taken a seat at his bar. Someone he hadn’t seen for a long time. Someone he’d just brought up on a camping trip with 12 of his friends. Jeonghan finally found his voice, speaking in a low tone that only two people could hear.
“Y/N?”
You looked back at him, failing to prevent the grin that spread across your face. You hadn’t changed much. You’d matured a bit. You looked much more confident and certain of yourself. You looked incredible. Jeonghan threw a glance at his coworker who was busy making drinks down the bar from him. Jeonghan approached where you sat slowly.
“What’re you doing here?” he asked as he stopped in front of you, holding the towel in both hands tightly. Your smile shifted from amused to sincere in the amount of time it took Jeonghan to blink. “I was in town and decided to drop by one of my favorite places,” you replied. “Although, I didn’t know you worked here,” you added, giving him a once over.
Jeonghan’s cheeks burned. Not from embarrassment exactly. He wasn’t sure why he felt heat spreading across his face and down his neck. What the hell was wrong with him? He was never like this? Was it perhaps because he felt ashamed?
Ashamed of how he left you? Ashamed of never speaking to or seeing you again? Ashamed of leaving you after everything that happened that summer? He couldn’t pick a single reason for feeling this way so he chose to accept all of them at once.
“How long have you worked here?” you asked, pulling his attention from the depths of his thoughts. “Three years,” he answered instantly. “When did you get back in town?” You chuckled softly at his quick response. “Last night,” you answered. Jeonghan noticed Matt starting to approach where he stood and cleared his throat quickly, turning his gaze back on you.
“What can I get you?” he asked, making you look up at him through your lashes. “A Manhattan, please,” you answered, lips threatening to pull into a smirk as you watched Jeonghan get to work, making your drink. He tried not to make too much of a show, making the drink without the flashy movements he normally did to impress patrons and increase his likelihood of getting more tips.
Once he’d finished the drink, he set it on a bar napkin in front of you and watched nervously as you pulled the drink closer. He watched as you picked the glass up and brought it closer to your face, no doubt giving it a sniff before taking a sip and setting it down. “Do you want to open a tab?” Jeonghan asked, quickly beating himself up for his lame question. You shook your head, opening your clutch and pulling out a few bills before handing them to him.
He started to turn away but caught himself when you told him no change, he thanked you, ringing up the drink and cashing it out, putting the change in the tip jar on the back counter by the terminal. He turned back around and started wiping down the counter again, gesturing to Matt to keep his distance.
“So,” he started as you took another sip of your drink. “How long are you in town for?” he asked. You smiled up at him. “A while,” you answered coyly. Jeonghan felt his lips pull into a smirk. “A while, huh?” he asked and you nodded, lifting your glass to take another sip. Jeonghan tried not to watch the way your lips moved or the way you licked them after taking a sip.
“And you’re out this late because…?” he continued, trailing off. “I told you,” you replied. “It’s one of my favorite places.”
The conversation between the two of you continued, briefly interrupted by Jeonghan helping Matt make drinks but the majority of the crowd had disbanded by this point as it was nearing 2 in the morning. The club would be closing soon and for once, Jeonghan found himself wishing for his shift to never end.
He let out what must have been a millionth sigh because you chuckled, looking up at him, chin resting in your hand and your elbow resting on the counter as you stared at him. He’d made a couple more drinks, enjoying your company far too much and watching the way you would pull the cherry garnish off the skewer with just your tongue. He had thought maybe you didn’t realize what you were doing but on the third time, he noticed the way you held his gaze as you did it and he knew you were doing it on purpose.
“Long day?” you asked, tilting your head like a puppy hearing its favorite word. Jeonghan scoffed, shaking his head. “You have no idea. I’m ready to get out of here,” he replied. It was only half true. While his feet did hurt and he was ready to go home, make some ramyeon and enjoy the rest of the night in the comfort of his apartment, he wasn’t quite ready to part ways with you.
“You’ve been at this for a while,” you commented, the smile on your face faltering as you studied his appearance. “The perks of working full time and pursuing a master’s degree,” Jeonghan replied sarcastically. “I live in a state of perpetual exhaustion.”
You reached across the bar, placing your hand over his. “I can tell,” you replied. Jeonghan gave you a tired smile. “Don’t worry,” he replied. “These bags are Gucci,” he added, gesturing to the bags under his eyes from many nights spent doing homework and case work instead of sleeping.
You snorted, pulling your hand away. “Only Gucci?” you asked. “No Chanel?”
It was Jeonghan’s turn to laugh as he shook his head. “Gucci is more affordable,” he replied.
“Oh shut up,” you said with a roll of your eyes. Your smile fell again. “But in all seriousness,” you said softly. “Are you okay?” Jeonghan felt his heart skip a beat, thumping in his chest erratically. “Uh, yeah,” he replied, turning his gaze away. “I’m fine.”
“You just keep sighing,” you explained. “I thought maybe something was bothering you and if so, maybe you’d like to talk about it?” Jeonghan looked back, meeting your curious gaze. “What time are you off?” you asked suddenly, making him almost choke on his own spit.
Before he had a chance to answer, someone else spoke.
“I’m sorry, miss,” Matt suddenly said from beside him, making Jeonghan jump. “Shit, Matt,” he hissed, placing his hand over his chest, feeling his heart pounding. “You nearly scared the life out of me.” Matt chuckled, patting him on the shoulder. “Sorry, man,” he replied before turning to look at you.
“The club’s closing soon.” You nodded with a smile. “Of course,” you replied, picking up your drink and downing the rest of it. Jeonghan turned to Matt, jerking his head as if to say ‘buzz off for a second.’ Matt seemed to understand and walked away to the other end of the bar, leaving Jeonghan to face you alone.
“About what you said before,” he said softly, making you look up as you collected your coat from the back of your barstool. “I really would like to see you while you’re still in town,” he continued, catching you off guard.
“Wow,” you said in faux amazement. “The Yoon Jeonghan wants to see me again?” you asked, making him groan in playful annoyance. “Don’t make a big deal out of it,” he replied, giving you a grin. “I’d like to catch up while I’m not working,” he added. “Okay,” you confirmed with a nod.
“Okay, well what time are you off?” There was that question again.
“You mean tonight?” he asked, looking at you incredulously. You nodded, seemingly unphased.
“Why not? Got plans tomorrow?”
Jeonghan shook his head. “The club’s closed on Christmas,” he explained. “So I’m free all day tomorrow.” You smiled at him warmly. “Then I’ll just wait outside for you?” you asked. Jeonghan’s eyes widened. “It’s probably freezing out there,” he protested. You shook your head.
“Well, I can’t stay in here,” you replied with a chuckle. “I’ll just meet you outside after you get off,” you added, grabbing your clutch only for Jeonghan to reach across the counter and gently take your wrist in his hand. “Wait,” he said quickly. “Let me see if my boss will let you wait in here instead of out in the cold.”
Luckily Jeonghan’s boss was an understanding person and allowed you to stay inside the club as Jeonghan and his co-workers shut down the business. You sat at the bar, watching Jeonghan count his drawer and finish putting in his tips.
“So, where did you have in mind?” he asked suddenly, making you look up from your phone where it sat on the counter, playing a rhythm game. “I thought we could just hit up a pojangmachas around here,” you replied. “Maybe grab some food.” Jeonghan smiled, picking up the money drawer and telling you he’d be right back. He was only gone a few minutes but upon returning, he untied his apron, making sure to take everything from it before stashing it and grabbing his bag from under the counter.
You waited for him to exit the bar, watching as he called a parting to Matt.
Once he joined you at your side, you studied his face at a much closer proximity. “And maybe some soju,” you added, making him look up at you with a confused look on his face. “Soju?” he asked curiously. “Why?” You reached up to run your thumb over the apple of his cheek. It was a simple gesture but one that made his heart skip nonetheless.
“Besides,” you replied, pulling your hand away. “You look like you could use a drink.”
The two of you exited the club, Jeonghan calling goodnight to the bouncers at the doors as he passed. Outside, the temperature had dropped tremendously, a wet sort of chill in the air, one that made his sinuses almost burn from the intensity of the cold. It didn’t take long for the two of you to find a mostly street lined with various food stalls. Most of the stalls had closed up shop as it was now almost 3 in the morning. The only stalls left open were the pojangmachas, covered stalls.
You led Jeonghan over to one of the larger ones, thanking him when he pulled back one of the tent flaps and followed you in.
Inside the tent was much warmer than outside with multiple industrial space heaters placed inside. There were a couple folding tables with folding chairs as well as a cart where a middle-aged woman sat on a bar height chair with a thick cushion. She was reading from some kind of magazine as you approached.
She glanced up at the two of you briefly. “Go ahead and sit down and someone will come by to take your order.” Although her tone was polite, she said it with an air of indifference that screamed ‘I couldn’t care less if you complain.’
You did as she instructed, moving to one of the tables by a space heater and setting your clutch on the table. Jeonghan set his bag on one of the chairs and shrugged off his coat, his eyes moving towards you at the same time. He’d only just noticed what you were wearing and had half a mind to cover you up with his coat.
You were wearing clothes typical of clubbing; high strappy black platform pumps, a fitted silver dress with ruching on the sides and a halter neckline. The back of the dress was open, showing off more skin than Jeonghan thought comfortable, especially in colder temperatures.
You hung your coat on the back of your chair, moving to take a seat. As soon as your butt hit the chair, Jeonghan stood over you, placing his long coat on your lap. “Just in case,” he murmured before taking a seat beside you in an attempt to shield you further from prying eyes.
“What a gentleman,” you replied jokingly. Jeonghan rolled his eyes despite his cheeks starting to heat up again. He didn’t even have time to quip back with some witty comeback before a man with a bored look on his face approached the table.
“What can I get you?”
You glanced at the small menu in Jeonghan’s hands. “Some eomukguk,” you said, glancing up at the man. “And kimbap. What about you?” you asked, looking up at him. Jeonghan let his eyes wander the menu before looking up. “Kimchi-bokkeumbap, please. And some soju,” he replied, looking up at the man who nodded and walked away.
You took the menu from him to look over it closer, allowing Jeonghan the freedom to do with his hands as he pleased. He opted for resting them on the surface of the table, lightly drumming his thumbs on the hard plastic to a beat in his head.
Silence washed over the two of you making Jeonghan want to curl up and hide. He’d never felt so awkward in all his life. “Huh.” he heard you chirp in something akin to mild amusement and curiosity. “Hmm?” he hummed in response, looking at the menu when you showed it to him.
“They have dakkochi with cheese,” you whined, showing him the menu. Jeonghan chuckled as the man returned with a bottle of soju and two glasses. He brought two large bottles of water, setting everything on the table. Jeonghan caught him before he walked away. “Could I add to our order?” he asked to which the man nodded wordlessly.
“Could we get some dakkochi with cheese please?”
The man nodded once more, without speaking, and walked away. Jeonghan turned to find your gaze on him already, your expression unreadable as you studied him. “What?” he asked as he picked up one of the bottles and moved it close to you before opening his. You shook your head, looking down at the bottle and opening it to take a sip.
Jeonghan grabbed the bottle of soju, turning the label to read it before nodding his head.
He offered to pour your shot first and after twisting the cap off, he filled it to the brim, making you grimace. You glanced at him as he poured his own shot, not filling it nearly as much. “You did that on purpose,” you muttered, making him look up an expression of feigned innocence on his face.
“Did what?” he asked. You gestured at your shot glass. “There’s no way I can pick that up without spilling it,” you murmured, noticing the mischievous glint in his eye. “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he replied, picking up his shot glass and waiting for you to follow.
With a sigh and a roll of your eyes, you very carefully picked up the shot glass. “Bottoms up,” he said before downing the shot with ease. You had a harder time, needing to move carefully so as not to spill any alcohol on you or his coat that was still on your lap.
You managed to swallow all of it, only spilling a tiny bit onto your hand which you quickly licked off and set your glass down. Jeonghan had noticed you licking the alcohol off your hand and his thoughts were suddenly consumed with images of your tongue running along the underside of his--
His thoughts were interrupted as the man returned, carrying the food you both ordered, setting it down on the table and asking if you needed anything else. Jeonghan shook his head, thanking the man who merely nodded and walked away. You smiled at the steaming bowl of eomukguk and immediately reached for a skewer.
Jeonghan started stirring his bokkeumbap, glancing over at your bowl before grabbing one of the small plates and spooning some of the rice onto it. He set it back down in front of you without a word and immediately dug into the dish. Your cheeks burned at the show of affection and thanked him softly.
The two of you ate mostly in silence, sipping on water and downing shots. The first bottle of soju went quickly and another one was brought to your table without you even needing to ask. You were happily munching on your chicken skewers when Jeonghan spoke.
“I never got the chance to apologize,” he started. You looked up at him. “It’s okay,” you replied after swallowing. “No, it’s not okay,” Jeonghan replied, looking back up at you. It was hard to miss the pain in his eyes. He must have held onto the hurt he felt he caused you all those years ago.
You reached across the table just like back in the club to place your hand over his.
“Really, Jeonghan,” you said, saying his name for the first time tonight. It sounded just as heavenly now as it did back then. “I’m okay. At first, yeah, I was upset,” you explained. “But I didn’t stew in it. I picked myself back up and I moved on. And sure, maybe I cried over it a few times but at the end of the day, we both knew that whatever was going on would end. We were young,” you continued.
Hearing the fact that you cried over him, over what he did, made his stomach sink. He moved his hand out from under yours and placed it on top. “I am so sorry,” he started but you shook your head. “It’s in the past,” you reminded him. “Stop living in the past. Focus on what’s happening now.”
Jeonghan met your gaze, your eyes flitted between his, looking back and forth as if searching for something specific in them. Something you hoped to see. Without speaking, Jeonghan raised his hand from the table, cupping your face and sliding his thumb over your cheek.
His heart nearly melted as you leaned into his touch. You were both startled out of your bubble by one of the men at the other table sneezing. It made you jump and Jeonghan pulled his hand back quickly, as if he’d been burned. He coughed a couple times before taking a drink of water.
And as you expected, he changed the subject.
“So, you didn’t tell me exactly how long you plan on staying in town,” he said quietly, glancing up at you.
You looked back at him, swallowing your food before speaking. “Just a while,” you replied. You gestured at the bottle of soju, silently asking if he wanted another shot. He shook his head. “What does that mean?” he asked. “What does a while mean?”
“I dunno,” you said with a shrug. “It means a while?” you added, glancing over at the only other occupied table, making sure they weren’t paying attention before grabbing the bottle of soju and pouring yourself a shot, shushing Jeonghan when he pretended to gasp. You quickly set the bottle down and reached over to slap his arm.
He raised his hand, pretended as if he’d been shot and made a face of extreme pain. You threatened to hit him again, cursing under your breath as he started to whine. You glanced over to see one of the older men at the other table look over his shoulder at you. You bowed your head in a silent apology before looking at Jeonghan who just smiled, laughing maniacally to himself.
“You’re such a menace,” you whispered. Jeonghan swallowed a gulp of water before fixing you with a perplexed stare. “I’m a menace?” he asked. “Look at you,” he added, gesturing at you. You glanced down and back up, shrugging and shaking your head as if to say ‘and?’
Jeonghan scooped up some more bokkeumbap, eyes moving back to meet yours as he opened his mouth slowly and took the bite. You looked away as he made a completely innocent thing mildly suggestive. “See?” you hissed. “Menace!”
Jeonghan covered his mouth as he chuckled before swallowing. “I just like to see you squirm,” he replied softly. “But really,” he continued. “You’re calling me a menace when you’re looking like that?” he asked, glancing up again. You met his gaze, heart skipping. ‘Was he… slut shaming you?’
“Don’t get me wrong,” he started, as if reading your mind. “You look incredible,” he added. “But god does seeing you like that make me want to do things to you.”
You weren’t sure if you were meant to hear the last part and upon glancing at him and finding him staring at you with a smirk on his face, you knew he meant for you to hear him. How did he expect you to respond to such a sexual remark? And more importantly, how did you want to respond?
The heat pooling in your belly spurred your decision to egg him on. See where he would take this.
“Oh yeah?” you asked softly, looking up through your lashes at him. “Like what?”
The smirk on Jeonghan’s face only faltered for a moment before growing. “Shall I tell you?” he asked, leaning forward as he propped his elbow on the table, resting his chin in his hand. He had a sort of dazed smile on his face as he stared at you with those dark eyes.
“Or should I just show you?”

How you managed to keep your hands to yourself in the taxi ride back to Jeonghan’s apartment was beyond you. As soon as the elevator doors shut, he was on you in a split second, pinning you against the metal wall of the elevator, hands on your hips as his lips moved fervently against yours.
The doors dinged, announcing the arrival to his floor and Jeonghan all but dragged you out of the lift, steering you down the hall to the door to his apartment. He fumbled with the key, unlocking it after a couple tries, only for you to pull him in, shutting the door behind you.
You stood in front of the door, lips locked, tongues battling for dominance as his hands roamed your body and yours grabbed the lapel of his black wool coat. “Wait,” he murmured, pulling back to look at you, pupils dilated even in the dark room.
“I can’t let this go on without your consent,” he murmured, lips ghosting along your jaw and down the side of your neck. “I’m here, aren’t I?” you asked softly. Jeonghan shook his head, straightening up to stare you down yet again. “No,” he replied.
“I mean, yes. Yes you are here. But I need to hear you say it.”
You rolled your eyes before pulling him closer, lips brushing against his and making him pout when you didn’t kiss him. “I want this,” you muttered, brushing your lips against his again, making him chase your mouth, desperate enough for your kiss that he whined.
“I want you, Yoon Jeonghan.”
Your words had a profound effect on him and he groaned, backing you into the wall beside the front door.
“I’m sorry,” you heard him murmur, his body pressing you against the wall. “I’m so, so sorry.” You shook your head, tugging on his hair to make him pull back and look at you. “Don’t,” you said softly. “Don’t apologize. It doesn’t matter anymore,” you continued, looking up at him with glossy eyes. “You’re here now.” Jeonghan groaned, leaning back in, his lips crashing against yours.
You let out a groan as his hands moved down your body, fumbling to undo your coat. “I’m here,” he repeated, words muffled by your lips. “And I’m not going anywhere.” You shook your head as he failed to unbutton your coat. “Neither am I,” you replied.
Your hands replaced his, undoing the buttons one by one before you shrugged the coat off, letting it fall to the floor, leaving you in just the silver backless dress. Jeonghan grabbed your hips, spinning you away and pushing you against the wall, his hips pressing into your backside.
He slowly started to pull at the tie at the back of your neck, savoring the reactions your body gave him. He paused, lowering his head to press his lips against your shoulder, lips parting as he let his tongue glide over your skin before sinking his teeth into you.
You let out an almost pornographic moan as he bit you, spurring on the rolling of his hips against your ass as he rutted against you. His fingers made quickly work of your halter, untying it before his hands slid down your back to grab your hips, the material of your dress bunching under his hands.
He spun you back around to face him before his hands moved up to where you held the dress up to cover your chest. “Don’t hide from me,” he murmured, leaning in to kiss you, his hands moving to yours and pulling them away. The top of your dress tumbled down, stopping at your waist.
His hands moved up, cupping your now exposed breast, sighing as you arched your back into his touch, your hands tangling in his dark locks. Jeonghan’s hands moved back down, pushing your dress further down as he littered kisses all over your neck and collar.
You allowed the item to fall to the floor, stepping out of it as Jeonghan pulled you from the wall. Your hands slid down his chest, working to undo his slacks and push them down, stumbling over a forgotten shoe and giggling as Jeonghan grabbed your waist to steady you.
“Careful,” he hissed as you stood up straight. “I really don’t want to spend Christmas in the ER.” You leaned into him, pulling him into a kiss. “I’ll be careful,” you promised as you leaned against the back of the couch. You grabbed his shirt, pulling it up over his head and dropping it to the floor to admire his lean body. “You’ve been working out,” you noted as his hands tugged at your shirt, pulling it up over your head as well.
“Well, it’s been a while since we’ve seen each other,” he reminded you. “I’ve been going to the gym for a while.” You giggled as he pulled you up into him, kissing you as his hands settled on your hips. “I don’t think we’re going to make it to the bedroom,” he murmured in between kisses. You shook your head.
“No,” you replied. “We’re not.”
You giggled as Jeonghan leaned forward, making you both tumble over the arm of the couch, him landing on top of you. “You didn’t think this through, did you?” you asked as you tried to scoot under him. He shook his head before pressing his lips against yours.
“When did I ever think anything through?” he asked with a smirk before sliding off you and the couch, moving to kneel in front of it. “Sit up,” he instructed. You scrambled to sit up, giggling as he grabbed your hips, pulling you to the edge of the couch. “Don’t tease,” you whined as he kissed up your stomach slowly.
“I’m not,” he pouted before his hands moved back up to your chest, settling under your breast as he searched your face for any sign of apprehension. When he saw none, he continued. A loud clunk made your head whip around in the direction it came from.
“Eyes on me, angel,” you heard Jeonghan say softly, taking your chin in his hand and turning your head to meet his burning gaze.
“Good girl,” he murmured. You opened your mouth to retort but let out a soft sigh as you felt his tongue lave over your nipple. His hands still on your hips as he nipped at and teased the bud. Your back arched, pressing your chest further against his face making him chuckle against your skin.
You felt one of his hands run up your back as the other stayed on your hip. “Not so mouthy now, are you?” you heard him murmur and looked down to meet his gaze once again. “No but you sure are,” you retorted, making him laugh as he pushed you back. His hands slid down your hips to your thighs, pulling your panties with them.
You lifted your feet as he pulled them off entirely and tossed them aside, hands moving under your hips to pull you closer to his face. “It’s been a while,” he admitted, glancing up at you as you reached down to comb your fingers through his dark tresses. “You never did this before,” you replied. “Not for me, anyway.” Jeonghan cocked his head. “You sure about that?” he asked and you nodded.
“I went down on you,” you reminded him. Jeonghan shrugged, grip tightening as he leaned in. Without another word, you felt his tongue lick slowly and glanced down at him, finding him already looking at you with hooded eyes. “Holy shit,” you gasped, the sight of him alone making your walls clench around nothing.
Jeonghan chuckled more to himself as he broke eye contact to look down at your heat. “Doesn’t take much, does it?” he asked, referencing your already leaking slit. “I barely touch you and your body is ready for something to fill it,” he added, one of his hands moving, fingers tracing around your entrance.
He looked back up, meeting your gaze as he slowly sank his fingers inside you, burying them to the hilt as his lips parted. “So tight,” he muttered, looking back down as he pulled his fingers slowly until just the tips remained. He gingerly pushed them back in, watching as your walls sucked them in.
“So warm,” he added. You groaned as you felt them curl inside you, brushing against the soft spongy spot that had your toes curling. “So wet for me,” he added with a hint of amusement to his voice. Even years later, he was still teasing you the way only he could.
His pace was slow, too slow to build any tension but just enough to give you some friction. He could do this for hours and you knew he could. Even if your previous encounter had been nothing but rushed and the very definition of a quickie.
It was amazing he still managed to tease you like this, working you up so well years later.
Like no time had passed and he was a skilled and practiced lover.
“Shit,” you gasped as Jeonghan’s fingers plunged deeper into your heat. “Don’t stop,” you gasped, your hand in his hair gripping tighter. You wanted to move his face closer, wanting to feel his tongue on you but he held back, reaching up instead to grab your hand and remove it.
“I’d love nothing more than to taste you,” he started. “But ever since you sat at my bar, I’ve wanted to fill this sweet pussy with my cock more.” You groaned as he pulled his fingers from your cunt, leaving you clenching around nothing with a whine.
“You want to be on top or you want me on top?” he asked as he wiped his fingers on the blanket that had fallen to the floor with a mental note to throw that in the washer tomorrow morning.
“Surprise me,” you said with a smirk.
The moment the words left your lips, you regretted them. Jeonghan had you pinned down against the cushions as he guided the head of his cock to your entrance. “Shit,” he cursed, hesitating. “I don’t have a condom on me,” he murmured. “They’re in the bedroom. I could go get one--”
You took his chin in your hand. “Are you clean?” you asked, looking into his eyes. He nodded fervently before asking you the same. You nodded, letting go of his face. “And I’m on the pill. Just do it. Before we lose the moment,” you replied.
Jeonghan said nothing, instead pushing into you, a deep groan leaving his lips as he slid in easily. You let out a whimper, head falling back against the cushion as his cock slowly stretched and filled your walls. The stretch was more than you remembered but it wasn’t painful.
When Jeonghan stopped moving, you heard him whisper a string of curses.
“When I said you were tight, I didn’t realize you were this tight,” he hissed. You hiked your leg higher, allowing him to sink deeper, making him shut up with a moan as his head fell into the crook of your neck. “Shit, okay,” he breathed, his breath hot against your skin, a thin layer of sweat starting to form.
“Can you move already?” you whined, trying to shift your hips but he put his weight down on you. “I’m trying not to cum, stop moving!” he hissed. You whined, body going still under him as you waited for him to regain his composure.
Watching the way his brow furrowed as he held off his own orgasm was kind of cute in a way. You took in the way his hair fell around his face, the ends with a slight curl. The long hair was growing on you.
“Alright,” he finally said, raising his head, sweat beading on his forehead. “I think I’m good.”
You opened your lips to respond but your words faltered as he pulled back and thrust sharply into you, making you gasp as your walls gripped him tightly. “If you keep doing that, I’m not gonna last,” Jeonghan groaned, hips stalling. “We’ve barely even started,” you whined, moving a hand up to brush his hair back.
“I underestimated you,” you heard him whisper as he buried his face in the crook of your neck. “Feels too good,” he added, his breath hot against your skin. “Jeonghan,” you whined impatiently. He groaned as he raised his head. “Fine, fine,” he murmured, pulling out to thrust back slowly, setting a steady pace.
“Fucking hell, Y/N,” he growled. You felt his fingers dig into your thigh, hiking your let up around his waist as he leaned deeper into his thrusts, the sound of skin against skin starting to fill the room. A thin layer of sweat started to cover your body, feeling equal parts sticky and wet.
Jeonghan pulled back to look down at you, his free hand moving to your face. “Don’t hold back,” he muttered, freeing your bottom lip from between your teeth as you had been holding back your moans. “There’s no one around to catch us this time,” he added with a smirk.
You let go, letting out a loud moan as you felt the head of his cock bump the soft spot inside your cunt. “Oh god,” you gasped, one hand moving to grab his arm, squeezing his bicep. Jeonghan took note of your facial expression and the fluttering of your walls and angled his thrusts, aiming for the same spot again and smirking wider as you gasped out again
“Right there, yeah?” he asked, his voice breathless. “Y-yeah,” you mewled, back arching as he hit the same spot repeatedly. “M’gonna cum if you keep doing that,” you whimpered, thighs squeezing his waist. Jeonghan surprised you by stopping completely, your orgasm ebbing away like the tide.
“What the fuck, Jeonghan?” you hissed as he pulled out of you completely. You tried to prop yourself up but squealed as he grabbed your arm, pulling you up and pushing you onto your stomach over the arm of the couch. You had no time to ask what he was up to when you felt him reenter you from behind, setting into a heavy and relentless pace immediately.
Your breath was knocked out of you with each powerful thrust, mewls and moans tumbling from your lips. “Oh, fuck, d-don’t stop,” you moaned, lips parted. Jeonghan growled, wrapping an arm around your chest and pulling your back against his chest.
“I should have had you like this before,” he whispered in your ear. “In my cabin. Not in some half rundown boathouse.” You let out a squeal as you felt Jeonghan’s cock plunge deeper into your cunt. “I shouldn’t have just left--”
“Stop,” you gasped. Jeonghan’s hips slowed. “No, don’t stop that,” you replied quickly. “I meant, stop talking about that.” You let out a moan as he resumed his merciless pace. “Right. We can talk later,” he groaned. “For now…” he trailed off, free hand slipping down between your thighs, fingers finding your clit with ease.
“I want you to cum,” he whispered in your ear. “Cum for me and then I’ll fill you up.”
Your walls clenched around him, your orgasm approaching as he drew you closer and closer with each thrust. “That’s it, come on,” he muttered. “Let go, angel.”
You let out a whine, feeling his hips stutter as you came, walls gripping him tightly. “Fuck, that’s right. Keep going,” he murmured, continuing to fuck you through your climax. “Good girl,” he said softly. You felt his grip relax, sighing in relief as he carefully set you back against the armrest, taking one of your arms and pinning it behind your back.
“Hold on tight,” he continued, his free hand gripping your hip, fingers digging into your flesh.
You didn’t get a word out before he started pounding into you, cries falling from your lips with each drag of his cock against your walls. “Fuck,” he hissed. You felt his cock twitch inside you, his own release drawing closer. “M’not gonna last,” he moaned, his grip on your arm tightening as he held you in place.
“Don’t stop,” you gasped, using your free hand to push yourself back against his thrusts. “Come on,” you continued. “Fucking cum.” Jeonghan let out a growl. “You want me to cum?” he asked. “Want me to cum inside you, claim this pussy as mine?” You nodded fervently. “Yes,” you replied. “Give it to me, please. Want it so bad!”
Your words seemed to do the trick, pushing Jeonghan over the edge as he came with a groan, hips coming to a halt as he buried his cock inside you, releasing deep into your cunt. “Shit!” he hissed. You pushed back, fucking yourself on his cock as he continued to pump you full of his cum.
“Shit, Y/N, stop,” he stammered, body twitching. “Fuck, babe, stop,” he repeated, letting go of your arm and holding your hips still. “Sorry,” you whimpered. “Felt too good.”
Jeonghan let out a breathless chuckle before leaning over your back, pressing a remarkably gentle kiss against your shoulder before pulling back and watching as he pulled his cock free. He leaned back to get a better look, almost smirking deviously as some of his cum started to spill out of you.
“Can I take a picture?” he asked suddenly, making your head snap up. “What?” you asked, looking back over your shoulder at him. “It’s just for me,” he added. “I want to remember this,” he continued, nodding down at your cunt. You contemplated it for a moment before nodding. “Yeah, go ahead.”
You felt him scramble off the couch, walking over to where his pants lay on the floor and pulled the device from his pocket, moving back behind you to presumably take a couple pictures.
You felt his hand on your ass, his thumb spreading your lips before his fingers moved, pushing into your cunt, making you groan. “What’re you doing?” you asked. “Pushing it back in,” he replied. “Some of it spilled out.”
You glanced back, seeing his phone still in his hand. “Are you filming this?” you asked softly and he nodded, tapping on the screen before setting his phone on the coffee table. “Sorry,” he added. “I couldn’t resist.” You caught an eyeful of his cock, standing proudly again.
“You wanna fuck it back into me?” you asked, making him look up to meet your gaze.
“Can I?” he asked, to which you nodded.
“Sure,” you replied. “It’s not like I’m going anywhere any time soon.”
You weren’t sure how you managed to go another two rounds with Jeonghan, each time ending with him filling you with even more of his cum but finally, he tapped out after moving to the bedroom to continue. You chose to hop in the shower, knowing his cum would slip out while you slept.
After cleaning up, you joined him back in bed and passed out.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Jeonghan awoke to sunlight pouring into his room through the blinds and blinked himself awake. He rolled over, hand reaching for you but found the space you’d previously occupied empty. His heart skipped a beat, pounding in his chest as he sat up quickly, looking around.
‘Oh no,’ he thought as he scrambled out of bed, throwing off the covers. He was grabbing a clean pair of sweats when the smell of eggs met his nose. He pulled on his pants and walked over to the door that stood slightly ajar, pulling it open and stepping into the hall.
He padded down the hallway and into the living area where he found you, wearing one of his old oversized shirts as you stood at the counter. “Morning,” you said with a smile as you cooked. Jeonghan’s lips pulled into a crooked smile as he moved to sit at the kitchen island, watching you work.
“Why are you smiling at me like that?” you asked as you stirred the contents of the skillet. Jeonghan shook his head, resting his chin in his hand as he watched you. “Nothing,” he murmured. “I could just get used to this.”
“Used to this? What, me cooking?” you asked with a snort. Jeonghan nodded. “And seeing you in my clothes,” he added with a chuckle. You rolled your eyes as you started to plate the food. Jeonghan heard the sound of a key in the lock and internally panicked. You looked up at him with wide eyes.
“I thought you lived alone,” you said as he turned towards the door and watched in horror as the door opened and Seungcheol entered, dropping his bag by the door as he looked up at Jeonghan, excitement on his face. “You’re never going to guess what happened to me last night,” he said as he walked forward.
“We got drinks and then- oh!” Seungcheol started, pausing when he caught sight of you in the kitchen in Jeonghan’s shirt. “Hello!” he added, glancing between you and Jeonghan. “Who is this?” he asked, looking at Jeonghan whose cheeks started to grow warm. He’d been caught, metaphorically, with his pants down and now he was going to have to come clean to his best friend and roommate.
“This,” Jeonghan started, glancing at you and then back at his best friend. “Is Y/N.”
Seungcheol smiled, looking at you before the realization dawned on him and his eyes widened comically. “Oh! Y/N?” he asked, turning to Jeonghan. “Like… the Y/N?” Jeonghan glanced quickly at you, noticing your furrowed brows. “The Y/N?” you asked softly.
Jeonghan forced an awkward smile, turning to you. “How would you like to eat breakfast in bed?” he asked with a pointed look. You glanced between him and Seungcheol. “O-okay,” you said, looking every bit as confused as you sounded. Jeonghan motioned for you to pick up the plates, saying he would follow shortly.
He turned to Seungcheol as you headed for his room.
“Don’t touch the blanket or the couch,” he said quickly. “I have some cleaning to do,” he added, starting for his room before stopping to look back at Seungcheol who made a face of disgust as he looked at the couch. “We’ll talk later,” Jeonghan added, pointing at Seungcheol who nodded.
Back in his room, Jeonghan shut the door and moved to sit beside you on the bed.
“Sorry about that,” he murmured as he took a plate from you and started to dig in, complimenting your cooking skills. You thanked him as you finished your bite and swallowed. “So,” you started, gathering more eggs on your fork. Jeonghan looked up to meet your gaze, a smug smirk on your face.
“The Y/N?” you asked, a hint of amusement in your voice.
“Just how many people have you told about me?”

Campfire sweets and starry nights at Ruby Lake Mountain
Spending the week at Ruby Lake Mountain is a fitting way to end the year. Along with getting some much needed alone time for a couple days, I also got to hang out with good company to celebrate the future.
Reserving a cabin at Ruby Lake was sort of a last minute thing. While the holidays were good, Daisy Jane and I felt like we could use a break to decompress and take some time to figure things out. As another year comes to a close, I’ve been thinking about how life’s been so far.
Overall, this year’s not much different - ups and downs, memories that I’ll treasure, low moments I’ve learned from - that’s basically my life these past few years since running the camp. As for the future, I don’t have any big ambitions other than to just keep living life to the fullest.
I came up here first because Daisy Jane had some things to take care of at home. Then a couple days later we met up with Raiden, Qingmei, Chihu, and Sunni, who are staying in a nearby cabin. They were up on the mountain for official business at first and now that’s over they’re on a well deserved break.
Raiden and Qingmei filled us in about Chihu and Sunni, two kids who they’re taking care of at the moment. Qingmei and her sisters occasionally work for some devil hunter group, so they have some connections there. From what I’ve heard, it’s the kind of faction where you don’t expect to live long. In other words, you only work for them if you’re ready to give up your life. Raiden says she won’t get in their way but she finds their philosophy and general outlook on life questionable.
Of course, most of the people Raiden and Qingmei know from there are dead - well, except for a couple who got lucky and left as soon as the opportunity arises. Nara was one of fortunate few who managed to survive for so long despite not being a particularly skilled devil hunter. According to Raiden, she was forced to become a devil hunter in order to provide for her parents and elder siblings. Despite being a bad fit for the group, Nara managed to survive as well as escape from her shitty family. After she left, Raiden and the others kept in sporadic contact with her.
The devil hunters also occasionally take in “strays”, meaning people who are part demons like Chihu and Sunni. Even though Chihu’s a teenager he was working as a devil hunter for some time before the higher ups realized that maybe using a kid as a potential weapon isn’t such a good idea. Poor kid’s been through shit so they decided to pair him with Nara, a young kid who’s also considered special and have them both try to live as normal lives as possible while being closely monitored.
Several months ago Nara took Chihu and Sunni under her wing after they were injured in a car accident. Some possibly drunk driver crashed into a bus stop and disappeared. Chihu and Nara were badly injured while the third victim, a classmate of Chihu’s, died after being in a coma for over a month. Nara had heard about the accident on the news and insisted on taking the kids in.
Things were going well until a couple weeks ago when Nara suddenly had a stroke. Chihu said it happened so suddenly - he didn’t even know what a stroke was until a doctor explained it to him. One minute they were talking, then he noticed that she didn’t look well and next thing he knew, she was slumped over and he knew that something was wrong. Somehow, he managed to get her to the ER by foot at record speed, which was what probably saved her life.
Since Nara’s in her early twenties and appears to have no genetic issues, the likely cause of her stroke seems to be due to injuries she sustained during her devil hunter days. So even though she lived to tell the tale, it seems like no one leaves the group unscathed. Qingmei says that it seems like most of Nara’s cognitive skills are intact but in terms of movement, there’s a lot of things she has to relearn.
As if that wasn’t difficult enough for Nara, her parents are trying to interfere. Chihu says that the only reason why they want control of Nara is so they can kill her. They even tried to pay him, claiming that they were doing him a favor because “a bright kid like him shouldn’t be saddled down by a worthless invalid bitch”. Some caring people they are.
Raiden says the devil hunters are doing all they can to help Nara at Chihu’s insistence. Even though he’s a minor, it’s possible for him to become her caretaker depending on the circumstances. Although he thinks he can handle taking care of Nara and Sunni, the others don’t want him saddled with that responsibility, at least not alone. Qingmei says her sisters are trying to help Chihu and the devil hunters work things out. I hope they’ll be okay.
Chihu’s an interesting guy, to say the least. Like the others said, he can be a little off-putting at first, but once you get past that, he’s got a good head on his shoulders - most of the time. He’s one of those kids who’s forced to grow up quickly and fend for himself so it’s understandable why he’s the way he is. Qingmei feels for the kid but she admits that she finds it a bit hard to get along with him. At least Raiden’s the kind of person who won’t hesitate to put someone in line if they act out and Chihu usually gets the message.
Sunni, I’ll admit, is kinda strange, but she didn’t have a normal upbringing either. Compared to her brother, she’s a lot more subdued, almost blank. Sometimes she acts like any other kid her age, other times she seems much more older. Raiden says all she knows is that Sunni is highly unusual and that’s why the devil hunters felt it was safer for her to stay with someone who might be able to give her a sense of normalcy, whatever that means. She usually either off doing her own thing or hanging around Chihu.
For the past couple weeks the kids have been staying with Qingmei and the demon slayers. Sunni doesn’t seem to be affected too much by what’s going on, though she does care about Nara in her own way. Chihu, on the other hand, needs all the distractions he can get, so the others have been helping him keep busy.
They say he has a tendency to get obsessed with certain things, basically something that ties to his abandonment issues. While getting to know him, he told me that he’s currently obsessed with finding two people. First is finding out more information about the girl who died in the accident. According to him, he and Sunni survived because she pushed them out of the way. All he knows about her is that she was orphaned after her mother was killed by a devil and she was ostracized by the class after another unrelated incident with devils. Chihu said he spoke to her a few times but other than that, he doesn’t know her at all.
His general impression of her is that she’s one of those people who puts up a wall because she’s lonely - like him, I suppose. He admitted that she was also put off with him at first but for some reason she decided to stick around. Sunni liked her and that’s saying something as she doesn’t warm up to people easily. Even though Nara never got to know her, Chihu thinks she and Miya would’ve been good friends. In the few times he talked to her, he said she felt real, like she really understood him even though they weren’t close.
After the accident, only Chihu, Nara, and Sunni visited Miya in the hospital. He said it didn’t seem right, a pretty girl like her lying alone attached to machines in a bleak room. He’d see her whenever he could so when she woke up, she wouldn’t have to be alone. What made it worse was that no one seemed to give a fuck about her. Only Nara understood because like him and Miya, she was also all alone in this world. He was so sure that she was gonna wake up one day and when she did, he would ask her out. While I’m not so sure about the dating part, I think it would’ve been nice if they became friends.
Raiden and Qingmei tried to find more information on Miya too but came up with nothing. Funny how an unknown person can keep you up at night. After hearing Chihu’s story, I can see why he’s obsessed with knowing more about her. There’s just something tragic about Miya’s short life, the fact that if it isn’t for someone like Chihu, no one would’ve care about her. To live and die in complete obscurity, it really is sad. With no one to remember you, that person might as well have never existed. And to make matters worse, it seems like we’ll never really know what kind of a person Miya was.
His second obsession is hunting down the bastard who ran them over. There’s not much on that either except that the driver was probably under the influence. It happened around 3am so there wasn’t a lot of witnesses. As a result the case remains unsolved much to his dismay. I can’t blame him for that either - after all, that person has proven themselves to be reckless and irresponsible, not to mention they killed an innocent person. Since he has even less on that, there’s really nothing he can do about it.
For now, the demon slayers are doing their best to help the kids out, especially during the holiday season - not that they were the kind to celebrate but it can get pretty lonely when you have no one to spend them with. Qingmei’s sisters have been putting Chihu to work with some missions since he has experience and they say that’s been doing him some good. Then he got teamed up with Qingmei and Raiden to go to Ruby Lake and since it’s a short one, they figured why not take some time off and bring Sunni along.
When the weather’s not too cold we’d spend some time hiking and fishing. The main thing we’ve been doing is making sweets like cookies, mochi, jam, and custard. Some things we did together, others alone, and though some of these recipes take a lot of prep, it felt nice doing all these little things. Especially when I’m by myself I tend to slow down so I can enjoy the process without feeling like I have to rush to get things done in a certain amount of time. It’s so easy to get caught up on completing tasks that it takes effort to remind yourself that it’s okay to slow down.
Life isn’t a competition so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be allowed to move at your own pace. As long as you’re moving towards a direction that feels right for you, that’s what really matters.
We ended up trying a bunch of different recipes that we never thought of attempting before. Chihu and Sunni seemed to take a genuine interest in making desserts so that was nice. Maybe that’s why we decided to take the plunge and step out of our comfort zones.
Earl grey milk jam was one of those things. I didn’t even know that milk jam was a thing until Chihu mentioned wanting to try making it. Out of all of us I didn’t think he would have the patience to make it and it ended up pretty good. He also made fruit preserves with help from Qingmei and those were successes too.
Raiden taught us how to make red bean paste so we used that for other desserts like mochi, taiyaki, and red bean soup. We also made creme caramel custard and even though they could’ve looked better, they tasted good. It takes a bit more work but I wouldn’t mind making all of these once in a while.
Of course to go with all those sweets we made tea and cider. We considered bringing a bottle or two of wine but decided on beer instead to celebrate the new year. The kids obviously won’t be drinking but they’ll be staying up too. Since Raiden and Qingmei’s cabin is bigger, Daisy Jane and I will be joining them there.
There’s nothing like sharing sweets and hot tea under a starry mountain.

“You either die the hero or see yourself live long enough to become the villain”
A classic oft-repeated quote from The Dark Knight (2008). And sadly, such is the case with Shrek. It is the second highest-grossing animated franchise of all time. And moreover, it has become the very thing it set out to destroy: the classic Disney franchise.
Think about it. It’s got the same hallmarks of Disney’s most successful properties:
Sequels
TV shows
Holiday specials
Spin-offs
Theme park attractions
Broadway musical adaptation
Though arguably falling in quality with time, each part of the Shrek franchise maintains the original key factors of the original film: its silliness, camp-like qualities, that go against the grain of traditional fairy tales and children’s media.
Perhaps no other part of the Shrek brand better embodies this than the merchandise. I mean, think about it, the fact that all this merchandise exists and persists shows the demand for it (for whatever reason).
Tumblr media
I mean, take a look at these Shrek crocs. That’s the very definition of camp!
Tumblr media
Shrek twinkies?? Looks gross, but they sold!! As did plenty of other Shrek foods!
But also, the fact that this merch exists also goes to show how much Shrek has turned into such a Disney-like franchise, the very thing it set out to critique in the first place.
This doesn’t even get into the fanmade unofficially licensed Shrek merch (some notable highlights include a Shrek toothpaste dispenser ((via his butt)), a Shrek fondue fountain, and various Shrek bling costing hundreds of dollars. And that’s only the PG stuff).
This leads us to what is perhaps most significant about the Shrek franchise: Shrek’s online life. Read on, if you dare.
Seriously, this is a warning.

Comics at machine HQ
Tumblr media
According to the machine HQ blog schedule, it’s almost time for a new list of comics and/or graphic novels that arg’s been reading lately… and so here it is – a new Comics at machine HQ post! In between the last such post and this one, arg has been quite active: he composed new music, posted on Instagram and compiled several monthly playlists.
And comics! arg also read a lot of comics – he read fiction too, but that’s a post for another week! – and here are some that he, like, really enjoyed…
Funnybooks! We got funnybooks! Here are the comics/graphic novels arg has read and enjoyed in the last few months. All titles are arranged alphabetically, and related titles – or titles from related genres – are listed in the Also recommended sections. Keep in mind that a few of these titles are suitable for mature readers only.
Tumblr media
“During a golden moment in the early 1950s the stars aligned, and EC Comics lovingly adapted 25 classic Ray Bradbury stories into comics form. Al Feldstein scripted, and all of EC's top artists brilliantly illuminated Ray’s tales: Johnny Craig, Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, Will Elder, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Graham Ingels, Jack Kamen, Roy Krenkel, Bernard Krigstein, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Angelo Torres, Al Williamson, and Wallace Wood. This special collection features all 25 official adaptations plus an additional ten related stories, with stunning art...”
Also recommended: Death Strikes: The Emperor Of Atlantis, The Bitter End And Other Stories and Dark Ride.
Tumblr media
“More than a decade after a disastrous explosion, young Hailey is dropped off by her mum at a holiday camp in a dilapidated shopping mall. Alienated from the other kids, she connects with an eerie older teen named Jen… but soon dark horrors awaken, and the two new friends are caught up in a cataclysmic battle between two terrifying creatures who have been lying dormant all this time.
One of Australia’s most acclaimed young graphic novelists, Chris Gooch expertly crafts a taut and intimate thriller about mothers and daughters, the monstrous and the mundane, and the power of friendship in the midst of catastrophe.”
Also recommended: Complete Ballad of Halo Jones, Alien: Thaw, Indigo Children and Kaya.
Tumblr media
“Deep within the walls of Castle Dunsinane, a seed of madness begins to bloom. Spurred on by the prophecies of witches and the whispers of his scheming wife, Lord Macbeth plots the death of his friend, King Duncan. This one cruel act soon spirals out of control, and murder after murder erupt into a wave of chaos and violence that threatens to consume all of Scotland.”
Also recommended: Creepshow, Shock Shop, and Shook! A Black Horror Anthology.
Tumblr media
“When the sun goes down, our minds invent all manner of horrors that may lurk in the darkness. Danish cult illustrator John Kenn Mortensen draws inspiration from this shadowy realm, and his pen skillfully conjures these eerie visions on paper.
Open this book (if you dare) to encounter a frightful horde of sepia-toned spooks — witches, wraiths, goblins, giant spiders, wild boars, evil clowns — and countless other unspeakable creatures. Hairy, hooded, or horned, they peer at you ominously through dead eyes, their fangs bared.” Highly recommended!
[Y’all know who the “horde of sepia-toned spooks” above reminds arg of? Of course – his Copiers of Hindustan buddies from Mastodon! And don’t worry, they’ll probably take this comparison as a compliment!]
Tumblr media
“In a climate crisis-ravaged future metropolis, a grumpy, smoke-belching, cigar-chomping, hotrod-racing robot is a twelve-year-old girl's only hope. Together, can they outrace the chasing Robo-Cops with an invention that might just save humanity?”
Also recommended: Sap Hunters, Under-Earth and The Colonized.
Tumblr media
“Tom Gauld returns with his wittiest and most trenchant collection of literary cartoons to date. Perfectly composed drawings are punctuated with the artist’s signature brand of humour, hitting high and low. After all, Gauld is just as comfortable taking jabs at Jane Eyre and Game of Thrones.” An absolute favourite, this one!
Also recommended: The Site, Flung Out Of Space, Lomax - Collectors of Folk Songs, Whistleblowers..., Yazidi and The Dyatlov Pass Mystery.
Tumblr media
The dynamic crime-writing/drawing duo is back! “A boarding house full of druggies. A neglected housewife. A young girl who thinks she's a superhero. A cop who wants to be left alone. And a private detective looking for a runaway girl. These stories collide one fateful summer in Where The Body Was, a tale of love and murder in the suburbs, told from a dozen different points of view. All the neighbours on the block have an opinion about the murder and how it happened, but which of them is telling the truth?”
Also recommended: The Reaper And Other Stories, Oswald's Body and Slash Them All.
…and now, here’s machine HQ’s Retro Pick for this post, a freaky little book straight from 1990:
Tumblr media
“What happens when a scientist discovers a way to make cloning easy?; Nothing good as the inventor discovers when his invention is used on him! His quest to stop the conspiracy-minded thieves and retrieve his invention makes this one of the wildest suspense tales yet!”
Phew! That’s it for this new comics/graphic novels list, visit The Apocalypse Project on Mastodon, twitter/X and on tumblr, and don’t forget to check out the machinstagram [links elsewhere!] too!
Header image features artwork from Army of Darkness Movie Adaptation [30th Anniversary Edition] and from classic 1990s Predator comics.
