little mood drop and whinging bleh

i don’t begrudge anyone wanting not to write with me anymore and i try not to take it personally when people just get bored of interactions / plotting / shipping ( sometimes the inspiration just isn’t there, or we don’t click personally for whatever reason, or ppl just lose interest in their blog altogether ) but it’s hard not to hurt being dropped by a bunch of partners, and it’s hard not to feel like i’m not doing something .. right ? but i’m not sure what that thing is and i wish i did. and I’ve just been feeling more and more like ... if not an outsider, then an uncomfortable presence ? when my dash is so full of interactions between my friends and folks that don’t want anything to do with me. which i guess is the tension between “please use the block button liberally, I want you to maintain your comfort even if it means blocking me” and “a lot of what i enjoy about roleplaying on tumblr is the communal aspect.”

and in these kinds of situations it’s always, well, the common denominator is me. i guess if you’re reading this and there’s something i’m doing, or something about my behavior that i need to address, let me know ? either on anon or off. I really want to foster that community because i really miss that about the rp scene, and if my actions are a detriment to that then i want to address it.

how do you make your gifs?

AH! great question!

Get Clip (i will generally just screen record using xbox game bar on my pc because TBH i'm LAZY but if you want to make higher quality gifs there are plenty of sites out there that will help you download videos and clips)

open photoshop. i have uhhhh i think photoshop 2022 which i got for a college class

file > import > video frames to layers

i do a selected range- this is another reason why i prefer to screen record, it gives you a smaller clip to work with in this window so you can get a little more precise- and i limit to every 2 frames, and its important to have that make frame animation button clicked

4. crop, chop frames to get the exact gif i want, adjust frame rate (i usually do a frame delay of 0.07-0.09 for about 30 fps which keeps it to real time! if you want the slow motion effect, you don't want to limit to every 2 frames. i don't play around much with the slow mo effect on my gifs tho so i couldn't tell u much more than that), and size the gif

5. coloring! i will usually put a curves layer and a color balance layer, depending on the lighting of the source and what i'm trying to do with it

6. SHARPEN! i learned how to do this recently which is probably sad considering i've been making gifs for 10 years now LMAO! granted the process of gif making is a lot easier than it was 10 years ago so u know. but if u want to know how to sharpen i can make a little addition for that as well

7. export! file > export > save for web (legacy)... and then i will do tests and previews and such, and if i'm happy with the gif i'll save & post! i like to keep my gifs under 3-4MB because that's where discord and tumblr will start compressing the hell out of them, so if they're too big i'll go back and chop some frames if i can spare them, or resize to something a bit smaller (whether that's cropping the gif or just shrinking it)

and that's all!! if u read all that or if u didn't read all that uhh enjoy some gnf gifs from a set i never ended up finishing

#long post kinda #i'm not much of a tutorial guy but if u want an actual tutorial with like. all the settings i use and stuff i can set one up #its so wild how much easier it is to make gifs these days like #in 2012 when i learned and i used to make a bunch of r.tah gifs like #i had to open them in vlc media player and take manual screenshots and just hope they were at a consistent enough frame rate #and lemme tell u i just went back and looked at the first gifs i made and they were NOT good #i'm also a liar it was 2013 apparently #i won't share my old url for a variety of reasons but if u were around in those days i was the guy that giffed jj in the recap every week #these tags got rambly sorry LOL

Just an old man confused about modern technology.

You were walking past the living room door when a discontented grunt caught your attention. You took two steps back to crane your neck past the half-closed door. Bucky was sitting on the sofa, leaning over the living room table, which looked like a toddler’s table compared to him, his face illuminated by the bright screen of his new laptop that you’ve bought him not too long ago. His eyebrows were tightly knit together when he mumbled a quiet curse. You turned around, a curious expression on your face as you walked through the door.

"You okay, baby?" you asked and promptly sat down next to him. Bucky gave you an inscrutable look before turning his eyes back to the screen. “Where the hell do I find my emails?” he asked in frustration. A sudden laugh escaped you. You should have realized that a 106 year old man who had little to do with electronics would have some trouble with a laptop. Bucky gave you a displeased look with a slight, unconcious pout appearing on his face. “Click on the internet icon.” You spoke softly, willing to help. Bucky’s brow furrowed. “I don’t need the internet, I need my emails.” You stayed silent for a moment, slightly baffled by his words. Just last week you took the effort to set up a Google account with him and you were pretty sure he had paid attention then. “Bucky.” You said an amused huff escaping you. “Your e-mail is connected to the Internet. Just click on the icon.” Bucky clicked his tongue in annoyance to cover his slight embarrassment and went back to staring at the desktop. He was definitely taking his time, and at one point you doubted he knew what an icon was. “Need any help?” you asked as kindly as you could, though the sight of Bucky squinting his eyes like a real old man made your voice sound rather amused. With an exhausted sigh, Bucky leaned back against the seat back and rubbed his face, his shoulders visibly slumping. “You do it.”

You snort, but immediately apologize after he gives you an exceptionally grumpy look. “You can do it.” You said encouragingly, giving him a small smile. Bucky rolled his eyes, but relented and bent over the laptop again. You shuffled closer to it so you could see the screen properly, and the little orange and blue Firefox icon literally jumped out at you. You pointed your finger at it and looked at it again. “Just click on this one.”

You tried to be patient with him, really, and actually he did exactly what you said, but you couldn’t hold back the little sigh that left your mouth as he moved the cursor over the Firefox icon and clicked. Once. “Okay.” You mumbled, rubbing your eye. Apparently, you needed to be more specific. "This time you click twice." Another brief but piercing look from Bucky before he actually double-clicked and the browser opened. You sent a quick thank you to the heavens before instructing him to type the url into the search tab and cringed silently when he started typing with both of his pointer fingers. Right this second you decided to teach him how to properly type with all ten of his fingers later. A few more instructions later, probably a little more than usually necessary, he reached the Google log-in site.

“I assume you can handle the rest?” It was supposed to be a statement but your voice shifted into a question at the end.

He hummed quietly in affirmation, though his brow was still furrowed as if this whole thing was incredibly complicated which, to be honest… it probably was for him. You pressed your lips together, a slight sting of guilt coursing through you, your previous amusement and frustration about his hardship completely vanishing. One second you were quietly sat next to him and the other you had your arms wrapped around his bicep and your head leaning on his shoulder. “I’m sorry about laughing earlier.” You whispered, almost too quiet for him to understand if he weren’t a Super-Soldier and had enhanced hearing. “I know it’s new for you.” Bucky tried to shrug it off but you saw how his eyes softened when he tilted his head to look down at you. A sudden, quiet chuckle escaped him, making you quirk an eyebrow in curiosity.

“You’d think, as a Cyborg, I’d be better at this.”

so i recently came into ownership of an early 2000s version of la luice's iconic 2 way rabbit rucksack, and i happen to also have a brand new one i recently bought and haven't taken out yet, so im in a position where i have both bags new with tags and around 20 years apart in age! i was inspired by josine maaike's blog post where she did a comparison of her two rabbit bags, and since my models are slightly different from hers i wanted to do the same so that there are more resources out there on these adorable guys

lets start off with the tags

the older one came with only one attached tag, while the 2024 version came with 3. the older tag is a light yellow whilst the new one is pink, but the art is the same

here are the backs. as you can see, they both have some info like item number and some contact info, but the new one is more detailed and you can see how their email and website url have changed. this is how i was able to date the older one as being from the early 2000's, since the website on the tag was out of use by la luice by late 2005. the older one also has a warning that its a hand dyed product and you need to take care when washing. which leads us onto the tags inside the bag!

the old one has no brand tag, but had a small wash tag, whereas the new one has a brand tag but no wash tag! we know la luice bags were often credited as being from the brands that stocked them (meta, putumayo, spica), and them having no actual tag sewed in from la luice would explain why this might have happened so often.

now lets look at physical differences...

you can see a colour difference from the old one (left) and new one (right). im not sure whether this is from the dyeing process being different or just age

their faces are also a notable difference. the newer one has a very shapely face (he is a chiselled chad) whereas the old one has a round baby face and a more bulbous nose thats sits on top of his snout.

the ears on the new one have some wire in them to give them the straight appearance, whilst the ears on the old one flop straight down.

and look at the collars! the old one has a droopy ribbon tie while the new one has a layered lace bow tie

the lace they used in the ruffles at the bottom was also different. the old one has little flower wreath patterns while the new one has a rose pattern, but the most notable difference is the layer of lace added to the bottom of the new one (right)

lastly, and a very minute detail, but the hardware on the old one was more of a screw shape whereas on the new one its a beaded design.

overall, in my opinion these two bags are both perfect and for being so far apart in age they look suprisingly identical. the quality and attention to detail is equally amazing in both so you really can't go wrong with la luice. thanks if you read this far!! id be interested to hear about any similarities and differences from your la luice bags.

I can't work out if Alastor genuinely considered Vox a friend or thought of him more as like. A cute pet that dotes on its owner and does little tricks. And then he shows off his cute little pet to Rosie and Mimzy. I don't think he ever viewed Vox as a threat to him in any way, but it makes me wonder about Vox's whole smooth, smart, scary and competent side we initially see in episode 2. Was that something he picked up from Alastor, or was it something Vox already had that might have sparked Alastor's interest? Did he actually mentor Vox in any way or did he just think it was fun to watch him try to build a tiny version of Alastor's empire.

we don't have a whole lot to go off of right now, especially when it comes to alastor's side, but personally I find it more interesting if alastor did genuinely consider vox a friend. even if in his own alastor fashion, there were probably certain walls he never let down. I think it's interesting in that, we know alastor has more of a soft spot for women, so in this pre-husk era, vox could've easily been one of his first few male friends. which kinda makes it sadder it didn't work out. it's like it just proved to alastor "right this is why I don't trust men".

things we know rn are:

alastor calls vox "old pal" at the end of episode 2

alastor allowed vox to take a picture with him at some point

alastor, who is perfectly capable of killing overlords, has not killed vox

also seen this pointed out before, but in the initial commercial alastor filmed in episode 1, although shitty, he did do some actual editing

I wouldn't expect alastor to already have knowledge of how to do this beforehand on his own, question is: did he learn it himself? or did he learn it...

...from someone else in the past?

not to mention he seems to just instinctively already know how to set up shit for filming near the end of the episode. he must have gotten some experience from somewhere.

I like to think alastor saw him as more than just some cute pet, at least back then. it adds more depth to their relationship. obviously there's stuff like the toxic homoerotic stalker-like obsession I feel is one-sided on vox's part (points to my url), but that doesn't mean I think alastor's side of their general relationship is completely non-existent. them having a genuine past friendship that affected both of them in different ways is what adds layers to their relationship I think. they were clearly both affected by their falling out in that they both developed irrational hatred of the other's medium as a result. and honestly? really need to see more of alastor's side of this, I think it'd be really interesting. even though, he hates vox now, and I don't believe he wants him back as a friend, is there any sort of sentiment left from their past friendship? is there a reason why he hasn't killed him? or was the time he almost beat vox an attempt at that? (though I like to believe it wasn't)

obviously, all we can do now is speculate based on the evidence we have in season 1, but for me personally, I like to think they were legitimately friends at some point.

The EFTPS quarterly tax payment system got a login overhaul and no one warned me.

I tried to log in to EFTPS last night to pay my quarterly taxes and was surprised that they've revamped their authentication flow.

They now have three options for Multi-Factor Authentication, and I had to pick one and set that up before I could even get to the page to enter my EFTPS credentials.

The first option they have, PIV/CAC is only for federal employees, so that's not helpful to me.

The next two options for everyone else are login.gov and id.me.

I looked at both options and login.gov seemed easier to set up quickly (and they’re not a private company that collects biometric data), so I’m gonna recommend them.

If you like processes, I took notes on my steps:

1. Visit https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/

2. Click the “MAKE A PAYMENT” button

3. Wait for a new page to load with three login options

4. Click the “LOGIN.GOV” button

5. Wait for the Login.Gov|Treasury page to load

6. Click “create an account”

7. Enter your e-mail address

8. Select English

9. Accept the Rules of Use

10. Click Submit

11. Check your e-mail for a confirmation link

12. Load the URL from the confirmation link

13. Enter a secure password

14. Set up MFA with your preferred methods (app-dependent and out of scope for these instructions)

15. At this point, if you were quick enough, it might take you straight to the EFTPS traditional login page, which still requires your old EFTPS enrollment credentials. If not, head back to the EFTPS page and click MAKE A PAYMENT and use your login.gov credentials and MFA now.

I would strongly recommend setting that all up now, and not waiting until January 16th, as this will be the first tax deadline this system was in place for and we have no idea how well the servers can handle the load.
