• his favorite drink is hot cocoa! he really likes trying new hot cocoa powder mixes and making his own when winter comes along, stirring his mug with a peppermint candy cane more often in the holidays. other than that he enjoys coffee very much • favorite holiday is christmas. he gets so excited about it every year as early as november, he'll be decorating everything on the 1st. he counts down the days eagerly and encourages his friends to do the same... he loves the toy trains that go around the tree he'll sit and stare at it as it loops in circles (he made it himself) • cozy fox. a sweater, scarf and big puffy jacket lover, he's gotta be bundled up for the snow! • can type scarily fast on any device, many of his replies are immediate • i like to think that tails got so used to being called buddy, bud, pal, etc. by sonic that it rubbed off on him when talking to others • he'll dance and sing only when he's alone, he gets embarrassed about it! he likes to do those 80s dance training videos • does not like being woken up at all he's very very cranky about it, it's a gamble for your life to rouse him unnecessarily! he literally opened fire on eggman for waking him up in sonic x and i find that hilarious i wish i was exaggerating. this kid needs his snormimis • mint chocolate truther • one last thing about mint is that while he loves them (and the flavor) i don't think he'd like the texture of bubblegum too much. bad texture and it gets stuck in his fangs and fur and it's very annoying • tails being tails (being 8 years old) finds most puns and jokes absolutely hilarious he'll laugh so honestly and double over and slap his knee and wheeze • he laughs at 90% of sonic's jokes like it's the best joke he's ever heard, while the other 10% he rolls his eyes and goes NOOO that was so lame! (but he still laughs). he'll try to come up with puns to get back at him, studying how he makes jokes and trying to emulate them every now and then... the humor rubs off on him • he is EXCELLENT at the art of nonverbal code communication. with one silent sly glance he can be very precise in what he conveys, but you need to be close to him so that this works • knows how to play the piano! he's a beginner at it, he taught sonic how to play some simple tunes • i like to think he kept his gadgets from tails adventure and they're still very precious to him, since they were some of his first inventions ever. his old laboratory he probably donated to the inhabitants of cocoa island to use as a shelter or something like that • he's terrifyingly good at water balloon fights. he chucks those like they're bombs i'm just obsessed with bomb-chucking tails i think this is the least i can do to honor that era • always always always moving his tail around! it's a good way to burn off energy even while he's standing completely still! but if he's particularly nervous he can wring them or find some intricate hands-on task (putting together a trinket or taking it apart, etc.) to occupy himself with and slow himself down • he has quite the competitive spirit! once again it rubbed off from his big bro can you blame him

What if when ghosts - including Danny - enter that form with a ghostly tail it means they have to consciously be aware of their own physical appearance.

For actual ghosts it's not that big of a deal since most of them already have the disconnection from humanity that comes with death. Many of them have either been dead too long to remember what a human form should properly look like while others just straight up don't care, and for most, it's just subconscious and they don't have to really think about it.

But Danny's a little anxious about it.

On one hand, it means that he gets to play some really great pranks on Sam and Tucker, but on the other hand, it also means that most people end up terrified and starkly reminded that their local superhero is, in fact, just one of the many ghosts that he fights.

But I'm not talking huge differences in appearance - nah, I'm a fan of unnerving, pre-eldritch Danny.

So in the heat of the moment Danny slips up and his arms may appear just a little too long, his teeth a little too sharp, his body distorted just enough to make your hair stand on end. His eyes reflect in the dark and his Lichtenburg scars stand out a little too starkly against his bloodless pallor. His suit loses that hazmat sheen and dulls to a smokey charcoal black, looking far too tight, stretched to its limits against muscle and bone, fused with his skin.

His hands get a little too big and his victorious grin stretches a little too wide across his face.

Sometimes, in the heat of battle, if you get a little too close, you can see something reminiscent of burn scars crawling up his neck and across his jaw, wrinkling his lips and creeping higher with his anger. The flesh, web-like and raised, but just as colourless as his complexion. Scars that only those who'd been saved and clutched tight in Phantom's arms have ever claimed to see.

But only sometimes.

Most of the time Phantom isn't even scary in the traditional sense - just the extreme Uncanny Valley sense. Most of the time Phantom is sarcastic and quick-witted and almost charming. Most of the time.

Nowadays Danny's got a better grip on it. It doesn't happen often.

But when it does, the Fenton's claim that it's proof of Phantom's deceit, hiding his sinister nature and deceiving Amity Park. It's something his parents never fail to use to try and prove just how inhuman he really is.

Answers to the common questions of “Why didn’t Zelda retain dragon features?” and “Why did Link’s arm revert to normal?”

I’ve been dying to do some analysis posts since TotK came out, and after seeing a lot of people complain about the above, I decided my first should be related to the endgame.

So, I’ve seen a lot of posts where people seem to misunderstand what was going on when Zelda changed back into a Hylian, and why Link’s arm returned to normal. Many write this off as simply plot convenience, and while it’s true that Nintendo wouldn’t want to leave the main characters of one of their most popular titles with permanent changes, I’m here to try my best to explain the actual reason these things happened the way they did, because whether you noticed it or not, there is plot relevance to this reversion.

Draconification is permanent.

This is an indisputable fact.

And while I have seen people criticizing the way Zelda changed back, the fact is she swallowed the stone knowing that she never would.

“I’ll be forever changed…”

Her cry for Link to find her was not for her sake. She wasn’t depending on him to find the key to changing her back. Nay, the only reason she desperately prayed for him to find her was so that he could get the Master Sword, which—ignoring game mechanics that would allow you to beat Ganondorf with literally any weapon with the right damage/durability ratio—canonically is the only thing that can hurt him.

When Zelda changed back, it was almost entirely thanks to Sonia. That’s right!

…Let’s take a second to recall this scene in which Rauru decimated the horde of Molduga.

We see Sonia extend her hand and then gesture for Zelda to do the same.

Here they’re extending their own power to amplify Rauru’s counterattack, even beyond the already-massive boost the Secret Stone provides.

In the final scene when Link finds himself hovering over the sleeping Light Dragon amongst a dream-like atmosphere, it’s really quite telling that Sonia is the first to rest her hand over Link’s, then followed by Rauru.

This time Rauru is fulfilling the role of amplifying Sonia’s power over time. Not just that, but adding it on top of the time manipulation that Zelda gave to Link at the beginning of the game.

That’s what’s happening here. This is immensely powerful, triple amplified time magic!

The change from dragon to Hylian wasn’t a transformation in the same sense that it was when Zelda changed from Hylian to dragon. I know that’s a confusing sentence, but consider the basis of Sonia’s time magic is recalling things as they once were.

Zelda didn’t retain dragon features because, through the power of time reversal, she was never a dragon to begin with.

This is the also the reason the Secret Stone reappeared on her necklace.

This is ALSO the reason Link’s arm reverted to its natural state before he was affected by the gloom.

And before y’all come at me with “well, why didn’t Rauru do that in the first place instead of giving his arm to Link?” Simple; Sonia wasn’t there. Even spirits aren’t omnipotent… in Hyrule. (Probably.)

The point is, this was essentially a lucky break for Zelda and Link, because if Sonia (and therefore Zelda, by inheritance) didn’t have time magic, there would have been no way to undo the Draconification. It would have been every bit as permanent as Hyrule legends and history says it is, and Zelda would be gone forever.

In fact, it’s likely it was a shot in the dark even on Sonia and Rauru’s part, considering there was no prior knowledge of reversing time on a dragon, let alone a person. It was a glorious blend of the convenience of Sonia’s time magic, and luck that it worked out the way they (“they” being all characters involved) wanted.

Anyways, to wrap this up, Draconification is indeed permanent, unless you have the number one badass-master-of-time-manipulation Queen Sonia on your side. Then you can probably undo anything. :)

a hc about tails and cosmo

so i wanted to figure out how cosmo would fit into my interpretation of tails considering that the events of sonic x aren't canon to everything else but rather their own thing. the fact that she isn't canon to him presents a bit of a dilemma because of two reasons: 1) making cosmo canon to tails implies putting him through the tragedy of having lost her, but 2) cosmo's presence in his life was too precious to be erased in its entirety. i really liked how sonic x dealt with that entire arc (in the og japanese version) and what it meant for tails as a character, so i want to allude to her somehow and this is what i came up with: tails is still a little kid. kids like to draw. sometimes, he draws a little plant girl and if asked about her, he will tell you her name is cosmo. the same as the growing sprout in a pot which sits on his desk. she's not exactly an oc necessarily. she came into being after many recurring dreams with her likeness, which he then translated into crayons and paper one day and the rest is history she was born into his dreams because of his love for space and the cosmos and creation and life. i look at the illustrations from the sonic harmony magazine of sonic and tails with their telescope, of the two of them looking out at aliens with awe in their faces, and i think about how his little kid imagination probably soared imagining extraterrestrial life in other planets... and then a little alien started to pop up in his dreams often enough that he started to draw her and named a plant after her... and he knows it's just a dream but the comfort and warmth he feels every time she shows up in his dreams is somehow so precious to him...

i like to think this is a thing only sonic knows with his big brother privilege. "you saw her again?" "yeah" "we were watching the stars together! ...they were really pretty" tails wouldn't want to tell anyone else in the world. it might be rather silly, but he can't help but fear that if he tells too many people about her existence, she'll fade away somehow. it might be selfish, somehow, but he trusts sonic to protect her.

...he had to have gotten the seed which grew into a sapling from someone, right?

sonic is always traveling the world, finding all sorts of souvenirs and bringing them back home. one day, he visited a really nice flower field and it was the one thing he brought back and gifted to him. the very moment he saw its green leaves emerge from the soil, tails knew exactly who to name his new plant friend after.

whenever he wakes up from a cosmo dream, he makes sure to draw it all. every adventure he has with her, he keeps as a drawing, piling up into a collection of its own. he wants to remember everything about it, because it feels so precious, because he has to treasure it. the warmth is always the same—familiar and dear, welcoming him back home. like maybe he belongs there, in that special scene. like maybe they'd known each other in another life. he colors it in and pulls away from his drawing. it's far from a masterpiece, but it's far more precious than one. "we really had a blast this time, didn't we?"

Thinking about how Tails is technically being raised by Sonic.

Like, you have Tails, the child, he’s like 9 years old, 300 IQ, genius inventor who’s still learning and growing.

Then you have Sonic, the legal guardian, who’s like 16, fastest thing alive, free as a bird.

Sonic is very much a live your own way kind of person, and will support Tails on everything he does.

UNLESS THAT THING TAILS DOES IS UNHEALTHY OR DANGEROUS

Like, Tails is inventing, then something comes loose, and he goes “I can fix that in a few minutes! I just need to finish this first!” and suddenly Sonic is there telling him to do it now, because Tails would likely forget, and it could be bad news for him.

Skip out on a meal, or forget to eat something healthy at least once a day to keep the brain prower going? Sonic is there either reminding Tails and tailing him until he eats, or he infiltrates Tails’ kitchen to ensure he gets a warm nutritious meal instead of instant ramen. Sonic didn’t struggle to learn new recipes to keep a 4 year old healthy, just so the same kid can sabotage his health.

If Tails is injured and should be resting, you best believe Sonic is there taking care of him and making sure he doesn’t do anything stupid. Sonic wonders how this kid is alive. Sonic wonders what made Tails this way.

He realizes the answer is in the house. It’s him. He’s raising the kid, teaching him about life, and this kid is soaking up everything like a super absorbent sponge.

Tails has the greatest cheerleader ever. Sonic is his hero, his best friend, brother, mom, dad, and picket fence. He’s more of a parent to him than his bio parents ever was!

So what if every day is an adventure? Tails learned how to love and embrace opportunity!

Sonic showed him that as terrifying as the world is, you can use that to your advantage and make something of it. Change won’t happen if you sit around and wait for it!

Sonic is not the perfect role model by any means. He’s still a kid himself, with no business raising one. But he loves that kid with all he has, and wouldn’t change him for the world.
