Ppl dont seem to realise that "only perceivably queer people should have access to queer spaces and support" and "nobody is obligated to out themselves to you and nobody needs to provide proof of their sexuality/identity" CANNOT coexist.

People are very quick to say "nobody should ever be forced out of the closet, there is no one way to be queer" but then throw a fit when someone who isnt visibly gay plays a gay character or when someone who isnt officially out acts in a ~queer way~.

Edit: Yes ofc its frustrating to see straight people get applauded for portraying queer characters and queer people should have more control about queer narratives that straight people do, but yall have to let go of the idea that "sexuality unknown" automatically means "straight by default". Thats literally heteronormativity.

Yes, harmful and stereotypical portrayals should be examined, but some of yall start frothing at the mouth over the possibility that the person delivering a perfectly harmless portrayal of a queer person might not be queer themselves.

Its also telling how yall will usually only go after the 'easier' targets. You bullied kit connor into outing himself bc he dared to play a bisexual boy while keeping his own identity private, but i have yet to see the same energy for cate blanchett, taika waititi, etc who have also played queer characters despite not being openly queer. Bc its not really about keeping the community safe, is it? Youre doing shit like this bc it makes you feel powerful and righteous.

If you care about all queer stories being "own voices" stories, thats your decision and a valid way to feel. But dont kid yourself into thinking youre making the lgbt community safer by forcing actors to out themselves.

Next week, we are going to see the romance montages... but in the same way that "You Wear Fine Things Well" changed," Stab Me" will change!

And p.s. Rhys and Taika have been so amazing this season. I actually don't think I have completely been able to digest the season yet as everything has blown my expectations out of the water...Rhys and Taika have shocked me. Like these two old friends saw how important this love story was to people, and they gave us complexity, and tenderness, and romance and dare I say heat ( special shout out to Rhys just sex on legs all season great job 👍🏽). The acting from these two! The tone of the show is a difficult one. Swings wildly from heartbreaking drama, to Muppets doing panto. And yet these two have crafted such complex characters I buy it all. The love that Ed and Stede have for each other this season is fucking earned. Taika Waititi is such a fucking phenomenal actor. I feel like I have known real people like him. People who burn real bright, but are really so scared. Just really beautiful work.

You talked about Thor being protective of pregnant Jane or his children (based on Thor1?), here comes Taika and puts Freyja in a battle with baby Thor, Thor putting the kids of new Asgard to fight without worrying and putting the Gorr's daughter in a war.

That's just how I perceive him - that he's super protective of people. Yes, in the first film: focussing on getting everyone in the town to safety, covering Jane when she was sleeping, covering her with his jacket.

And in the second film, he went into complete overdrive because Jane was sick. I made three different gifsets of him being overprotective of her, ready to screw people up if they even dare come near her and obsessing over curing her illness.

Even in Avengers1, he jumps to protect Natasha from Hulk without thinking about it.

But of course, Waititi strikes again. Why does he turn all his amazing traits into literal opposites, I will never understand. Even sullying his mum's character this time, I see.

Or thinking they are queer but they didn’t confirm it. Or them accidentally making people think they’re queer in Mishas case is NOT QUEERBAIT. WORDS MEAN STUFF. (Taika identifies as a Polynesian Jew) By forcing European definitions of sexuality on indigenous people you are not only not minding your own fucking business because public figures sexuality is NONE of your business and they are NOT EVER required to tell the public their exact sexuality but you are also being a colonizer. PLEASE. Stop acting like celebrities owe you every single detail of their personal life just cause they DARE to exist in the public eye. Real people cannot queerbait you because queerbait is a marketing technique where a group of marketing execs or a group of writers who decide to make CHARACTERS in a FICTIONAL show or movie seem gay to attract a queer audience while never having the intention to acknowledge that. Pitch Perfect’s marketing where they had Becca and Chloe almost kiss in the promo but never acknowledged that outside of the marketing is a good example. Real life people cannot queerbait you. Because they are real people who’s sexuality is not up for interpretation by a bunch of strangers just because you’ve decided they don’t perform gender correctly or you’ve decided something they’ve said sounds queer and you decide that means they need to tell you a complete stranger the specifics of their sexuality and you decide thcat they need to ascribe to your definitions of what a queer person is. and yes I’m aware Misha Collins made people think he was queer for a bit. That is not Queerbaiting. Cause 1. He’s a real person and 2. He did that on accident cause he’s a dumb straight dude who doesn’t understand queer stuff not because he meant to intentionally mislead people. But even if he DID intentionally mislead people. That would STILL not be queerbaiting. That would just be called misleading or lying. Stop assigning serious terms definitions that don’t match the words. Learn what fucking words mean before you use them I’m so fucking tired of explaining this shit to people who refuse to do even a two second fucking bit of research into the definition of a word. It’s always fun to see nerdy movie audiences adopt comic fan postures.  This one is “skipping that story because that story doesn’t matter now that a reboot is coming”-- just a classic one, one of the standards, that one’s in the great American songbook.  

Or I saw a headline the other day that was like “TV audiences are waiting for shows to be renewed before watching them”-- that one’s just “I’m waiting for the trade.”  People saying “Watch the whole season so Netflix doesn’t cancel us immediately” is just “preorder your comics-- don’t just take our art to enjoy your life, because actually, consuming our product makes you a member of our team.”  Or of course, we’re coming up on “Ezra Miller maybe did bad things but it’s okay to just love the Flash”-- that’s your old school “DC fans will lecture you all day long about the morality of fictional characters while ignoring the grotesque immorality of human beings”-- that’s DC fandom 101.   “The people who made this is my friend actually, we’re friends now, and how dare you talk about my friend that way”-- they brought that over for Taika Waititi and especially Brie Larson.  Defining “fun” to exclusively refer to disconcertingly awful garbage-- that’s an easy check.

Some things seem out of reach-- “nattering constantly about whether writers or artists matter more, endlessly” doesn’t seem likely to translate to popcorn buyers (p.s. correct answer is artists). Or “the Japanese are loads better at this in every possible way” is just animation and Godzilla/kaiju only.  “Why can’t I buy this in convenience stores anymore”-- no translation. “This legendary person and/or their entire family is just greedy when they complain how they were mistreated”-- can’t think of a translation. “We just don’t think women want to create or consume our product”-- Colin Trevorrow tried to take that one for a spin but people didn’t buy it.  “Oh wow, that person is the biggest wildest hippie in our industry -- you can tell by their Batman comics and how they’re a member of the *British empire* and rushed to defend their corporate employers’ history of impoverishing others-- but hey, they smoked a marijuana cigarette once and saw an alien”-- an equivalent does not come easily to mind...
