How Taika Waititi Ruined Thor

[This essay talks negatively about director Taika Waititi and his Thor films. Please don’t read if you happen to enjoy them.

Despite my best efforts, this post is 10,343 words long. Here is a table of contents for ease:

Despite Thor: Ragnarok (2017) (Thor3) introducing a complete change of tone for the Thor franchise, the mainstream media has decided it was only ever received positively by 100% of the audience. Not a ‘divisive’ or even a ‘generally favored’, but a ‘unanimously loved’ tag was given to this movie and its director Taika Waititi for “saving Thor”.

You have to wonder who were those people who went to the theatres for the first two films if this film saved the franchise because they were both hits. But seeing as I’m the non-existent 0% of the population that doesn’t echo that sentiment of the media, I decided to shed light on how Taika Waititi didn’t save him, but actually ruined, destroyed, and annihilated Thor in every way possible.

CHARACTER

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: there is nothing wrong with Thor being funny, as long as it isn’t at the expense of his character. And now you know why I’m writing this thesis.

Why Thor: Ragnarok is remake and doesn't fit to other movies of Thor

I will talking only about chronology in this post. Hela shows ''true history'' of Asgard. Well, but we have one problem. We watched Thor and Thor: Dark World. This both movies are the denial of Hela's words.

The frescoes show the winning couple. Odin and his daughter conquering the world. Look at Odin. A white, senile beard… interesting… because we saw what Odin looked like over a thousand years earlier at the time of Loki's birth.

Here later with both sons.

And here as King of Asgard when Thor and Loki are grown men.

The war with Jotunheim was in 965 AD.

And Odin looked completely different at that time than he did in 2011-2013.

Next thing… is the case of Borr and the war with Malekith.

5,000 thousand years ago, Borr was still the king of Asgard and fought against the Dark Elves. Interesting thing, his heir is not with him. Odin is not present during this key battle. He seems to truly believe that his father defeated Malekith.

Why isn't Odin present during this battle? We have two options… and they are related to age. Either Odin was too young to fight battles (Asgardians do not have children during battle, Mr. Taika Waititi! If Loki saw that scene with his mother, he would tear your head off!) or he was a very young man who was just old enough to be regent during his father's absence… which would make him roughly the age of Thor and Loki in Thor (2011).

However, both situations quite exclude the possibility of Odin being an old man with an unstoppable desire for power and an adult daughter.

Even assuming that Borr died quickly after this battle and Odin already had a teenage/adolescent daughter… that still doesn't fill the gaps. Because Odin was not the old man shown in the frescoes. And if he had access to the fountain of youth, he would use it again rather than allow Hela to be released?

Failure to solve the problem of Hela also puts the events in Thor 1 in a strange twist. Odin actually believes that it's time for Thor to be king. Why? He put off Odinsleep, Frigga really thought he might not wake up from this. He probably also realized that his strength was weakening. And… he didn't tell any of his sons… when I die, your bloodthirsty half-sister will suddenly appear and want to kill you? What kind of ruler does this?

My conclusion : Thor Ragnarok is remake.

We see the actual history of Asgard… up to 2015… where Age of Ultron still honors this timeline.

Overall timeline of Thor 1, Avengers, Thor Dark World, (in the meantime movies related to Avengers like Winter Soldier or Iron Man 3) and Avengers: Age of Ultron. After that, we never see any further events. I would also like to point out that Thanos in Guardians of Galaxy and Thanos from Infinity War are two different characters. The last time we see Thanos from Guardians of Galaxy is in the scene with the gauntlet at the end of Age of Ultron. Thanos in Infinity War is nothing like the previous Thanos.

Well, Thor is probably still looking for those stones, and Loki is preparing a surprise for Thanos in their universe.

The further timeline, starting with Ragnarok, has completely different events and one could even say a different universe.

Tom Hiddleston always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to ‘Loki.’

- His show didn’t have showrunners that actually knew about or cared about his character

- The original script he was given was blacklisted in 2018

- Michael Waldron the show ‘creator’ is a ‘phile’ and a sicko overall.

- Kate Herron said that they ‘made things up as they went along.’

- They wanted to ‘knock Tom down a notch’ in order to let Sylvie shine. I recall Taika saying a similar thing in relation to Ragnarok and even Feige removed him from Age of Ultron due to his ‘insane acting skills.’ 🙄

- Apparently Chris Hemsworth is ‘sick of Loki’ and said that he’s like a “clingy ex-girlfriend who can’t take the hint that it’s done, it’s over.”

- Taika Waititi said that Loki outshined Thor before so he wanted to stop that from happening.

- Taika wanted to put Loki in a porta potty:

- Taika wanted Tom to get pregnant with a horse implying bestial r*pe!!

- Most of his scenes from the movies were deleted

- Michael Waldron and Kate Herron said that they wanted to ‘knock Tom down a few pegs’ in order to give Sylvie a chance to shine

- He had to film the show during COVID which stuffed a lot of things

- He couldn’t promote the second season due to the SAG AFTRA strikes.

- He’s never featured in the Marvel opening title sequence

- He is still one of the ‘lowest paid Marvel actors.’

- He goes out of his way to promote Infinity War even though he’s only in it for 2 minutes!

- His series didn’t get the ‘spotlight treatment’ or have and show runners who KNEW anything about Marvel or Loki! Tom spent FOUR days showing them PowerPoint presentations showing them all about aloki and the MCU at the infamous ‘Loki Lectures’ but “SCREW YOU TOM AND YOUR CHARACTER! WE CARE MORE ABOUT KANG AND THE TVA, YOUR ‘CHARACTER’ IS JUST A PLACE HOLDER NOW!”

- They made him look older and less appealing in the show than he does irl. Look at him in some shots in the show then see him behind the scenes! The makeup, lighting and angles were unflattering at times! They even managed to remove that sparkle in his eye in the show but it was there behind the scenes!

- The director of S1, Kate Herron said that it was wanted Sophia/Sylvie to ‘knock Tom Hiddleston down a notch.’

The director of S2, Aaron Moorhead said ‘Why don’t you just go away?’

What we could have had… 😪 Poor guy. I wonder how he feels being bullied, exploited and sidelined all the time. 😢💔

Taika is the reason all those shows ended (rez dog had planned 3 seasons, he hasnt done much w wwdits since s1, for ofmd i believe david took a bad deal w a literal devil).

So i put this on another post but its buried lets redo it

Good reasons to hate Taika:

*hes a zionist and has been for years. Despite claims the only other ofmd cast who is maybe zionist is Rhys. His wife controls his social media and tweeted support for Israel. He must be ok with it hes never refuted it. Meanwhile no one has provided proof Con is zionist. He, Vico, Nathan, Samba, and David have all at least once (and some more than once) posted pro palestine stories on instagram. Vico is particularly passionate for free palestine

*his wife not only pretends to be black (shes white af) but thinks hes samoan...

*He said awful things about trans ppl in 2014 in his mid 30s. Went on to make Next Goal Wins in 2020 and it has a heavy transphobe laden plot line which is a dishonor to its queer actress. Hes never apologized for either even when called to do so

*He married film producer/director Chelsea Winstanley, brought her along, had two kids, got bored and dumped her for Rita Ora. There is no gap. So now she has no career and is raising his kids, he glass ceilinged her

*he did hire Kayvan for Nandor despite his extremely recent use of blackface on a show that Kayvan had almost complete control over (some of the black face was only a few years old when wwdits was in pilot mode).

*declares himself both a proud indigenous icon (see trophy wife) and a gay icon (despite hating trans ppl and claiming he is straight).

When i say claiming i mean the man acts like…not…but lets just take him at his word. How the fuck can u be a gay icon as a straight man who constantly belittles trans ppl? When criticized around Next Goal Wins he cited OFMD as proof hes not anti trans…despite not inventing the character of Jim and seemed to have nothing to do with Vico’s hiring. He uses them as a citation despite cast and writer interviews revealing most of the ofmd queerness we love came from the actors (and two writers were key to making Jim nonbinary with vico).

Whoa whoa I think I missed some stuff, is it okay to hate TW and how he ruined Thor now? I've been bitter about his treatment of the mcu and his attitude for years but never expected to see any mainstream agreement, what did I miss! (If u don't mind me asking, you seem to have better kept up with marvel stuff than I've been able to lol)

haha it's become mainstream to hate on waititi now, friend. we will not be publicly executed the way we'd have been back in 2017 when thor3 released.

i'm not sure how this came about tho. thor4 released and everyone suddenly decided that they will hate on it FOR THE SAME THINGS THEY LOVED THOR3. i don't understand this. make it make sense. the one reason people give for this is - the humor was balanced in thor3 but not in thro4. it is NOT TRUE AT ALL and these people should get some critical thinking instead of regurgitating sexist youtubers.

also, his attitude during thor4 was also picked upon by people to be unacceptable - calling thor's gf useless and boring, saying he set out to make a film that fans would hate and daring them to hate on it, saying he wanted to put cancer jokes in the film, and crapping on the vfx artists who worked to death on his trash film.

anyway, the general consensus of thor4 was that people surely want to see thor again but not at waititi at the helm at any cost. so, marvel kicked him out. fans rejoiced. moreover, marvel specifically wants the next film to be as far away from his 2 films as possible. fans rejoiced even more at this.

waititi had stated his ideas for the future of thor's story during thor4, implying he'll be stuck to thor forever. but then he also said that he'll only come back if chris does, implying that marvel will have to beg him to give his genius to them again and also take care of this side actor mr. hemsworth.

all this came back to bite him when he was unceremoniously discarded. since then, he has went in an overdrive trying to have the last word at any cost. first, saying he knew he won't be invited back and he doesn't care because he has so many films in his kitty anyway. second, backtracking and saying he said no to marvel actually. and third, saying he only made thor3 for money, taking a dig at superhero films in the process and saying he's above them.

this act in particular has incited fans the most. even people who didn't hate on him have now started calling out his sore loser act. this is why you're seeing a serious uptick of people hating on him and his beloved thor3. :)

It's kind of funny to me that Taika Waititi made such a big deal about how much he hated Loki because Valkyrie is...blatantly just a foil for Loki. Like, they're parallel characters - cynical, reluctant heroes who can't understand why Thor constantly feels the need to do the right thing but who admire him for it in spite of themselves. At least, in Ragnarok, this is the case. The similarities between them in the movie are so blatant that this scene exists.

They are literally two sides to the same coin. Which is why Valkyrie could so easily take on Loki's role in movie 4. Tessa picked up on this - she talked about it in an interview. Idk, it's just so funny to me that Taika would rip apart Loki in interviews and harp on how hard he is to relate to...and then basically recreate Loki but black and female and with a different backstory. Ffs, they're even both bisexual and have a kind of questionable relationship with the Grandmaster. Like, it's insane to me that Taika couldn't see how queer-coded Loki has always been, at the very least.

Chris Hemsworth, please, honestly GO FUCK YOURSELF. LMAO.

Okay, so, listen, this is honestly going to be the last I ever talk about this, but the fact that I've been proven right about this jackasses involvement in this whole affair has got me laughing!

In 2017, or the year previous, who the fuck knows, Chris Hemsworth got his friend, Taika Waititi to direct Thor 3. Thor Ragnarok, which heavily diverged from the cinematography and the lore of the previous two Thor movies. Chris Hemsworth decided Thor was too boring. He didn't like playing him anymore. He wanted to play someone new and fun. He wanted to play himself. And he got just that.

I'll give Ragnarok enough credit, that aye, I might be fooled into thinking there was some interest the title character. But after Love and Thunder? No, now I know I've been fooled into watching a costume party by Chris Hemsworth, his family, and his friends. Ding ding ding! What do we have here, Johnny?

A bottom tier celebrity making a franchise that not only was all about him - his character, but all about him!!! He's playing himself!

His daughter at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, is his daughter in real life (she's cute, no diss). His two sons played younger versions of him. His wife was a wolf woman he made out with! His best friends Matt fucking Damon and Taika Waititi both star in the role and the latter directs it.

I'm sorry, but at what fucking point did I sign up for a lazy written fanfiction? Because that's sure as hell not what I thought would happen in Thor 1 or 2, or Avengers. And you know, I am still mad, because I enjoyed the OG Thor, I enjoyed the OG Loki, and Marvel and, wow, did it not pay off.

Alas, it's on me for watching any new Thor films (aye, listen, I gotta family here!), but I just wanted to tell anyone who ever said Thor is a walking self insert nowadays. You are completely and utterly spot on.
