#supporting her throughout her journey at the gym
Text
“Leah also played a very important role in my life this year because we went through rehab together, only a week apart. We have been so supportive of each other throughout this injury journey and it meant we could bring the best out of each other. If Leah ever needed an extra little push in the gym one day, I could give it to her. If I needed a shoulder to cry on or a big laugh, she would be there.”
“Leah is just a wonderful human being who takes care of everyone and listens to everyone. She always gives you her honest opinion and always puts the team first. That’s such a great trait to have and she’s such a good person to have in our squad and leadership team. If Leah wasn’t at Arsenal, Arsenal would not feel the way that it does.”

Another Pretty Long Character Analysis: Kieran and Nemona - Strength
disclaimer: not claiming this to be objective, just another writing piece full of thoughts done for fun because Kieran is such an interesting, in depth character ever
Okay so I mentioned this in my older post about kieran being the foil of nemona and their shared struggles with being at the top, socially excluded, and how strength as social arbiter displaced them in social settings. Like Kieran, Nemona became overly strong that no one wanted to compete and keep up with. Her passion is misread because of that plus the top statuses she holds as a wealthy multi-talented, high-achieving student. She is a good person and true to herself (her naivety to social cues perhaps is because of her lack of social connections with others). She means well and just want someone to battle with their efforts no matter the outcome and enjoy to the fullest. Battling is her expression of self, her way of enjoyment and connecting with others. Kieran is alike to an extent, with his strength already at a high level (stated by Carmen in the beginning), and his joyous expression seen during our first fight. This is supported by the fact as stated by Drayton how Kieran had fun battling pre-Teal Mask. These two rivals' love for battles run parallel with each other!
However, Kieran's transition reflects a common mindset that artists, athletes, musicians, etc. all resonate with: competitiveness + measure of worth in the things you like the most - you have to be good at them. I feel this strongly as well with art being my major source of passion - I pressured myself into thinking I had to be really good at it and not enjoy for the sake of doing it regardless of skills.
Battling was not only something Kieran liked doing, it was his main source of confidence and self-esteem.
We see that clear in Blueberry Academy, in dialogues and student culture, competitiveness is high, demanding, and brutal. Kieran may have internalized the idea, provided with his insecurity of weakness and his goal to become independent and reliant. Seeing that we were able to defeat him and sister with ease, he grew to admire but also envious of our esteemed strength, how our power seems to be favored by luck (having speical mons like Koraidon), inducing him to believe that if he worked hard, he could get to our level too. To add further, his lifelong admiration of Ogerpon supports his motivation and his aforementioned desire to be stronger. He wanted to be strong and cool as the ogre, not caring what others thought.
What I find interesting is how Kieran and Nemona handles their way of battling with us. Nemona guides you through the journey while challenging herself to learn in new ways - she restarts her journey essentially. For Kieran, even though he has experience, he struggles with the losses against us (confidence issues and again, aside our MC Role, there is some skill difference given that we fought the titans, area zero mons, team star, and gym leaders). He does change up his tactics, but ultimately does not see victory. He ends up restarting in a way back at BB academy. As a result, Kieran becomes more isolated throughout his training arc and his domination in the league. Him strictly calling out others for slacking inadvertently turns him into the fearsome "oni" figure that he idolized and thus earns him an unfavorable reputation as the president (similar status with Nemona) of the League, for instance, a dialogue between two students mentions how how ever since he became champ, the League club became less fun....Despite the contrast of tensity in these circumstances, Nemona is misunderstood in similiar manner with Kieran.
If memory serves correct, Nemona really gets into the battling mood and sometimes forgets about hers and others' limits, but does acknowledge them given a few instances when she does not battle you. Whereas for Kieran, once he entered the extreme zone, he fully devotes himself to strength at the cost of his mental, social and physical well-being. He discards his limits, giving everything he has got that ultimately eats him from the inside. The final scene when he reacts to losing may also show not just his struggle to grasp reality but a literal side effect on his health (no sleep = poor mood, poor thinking)
He desperately clings to the idea that endless training would grant him the guaranteed chance to beat you ("I know I am making the right choice") and no longer enjoys battling. Battling became a constant test of worth, the last and only means of proving himself. Even though he did become stronger, it drained his health, energy, sanity and reputation. Again, in an ironic way, he really became the oni (self filling prophecy).
at the end however, when we reach out to him to be confident in himself, that we needed his help, it gave him that confidence boost. We all believed in him - he really needed that support. Maybe seeing terapagos going berserk had him gain self awareness that he was like that too and how that caused harm to not only himself but to others.
One small thing to point out that he is like Terapagos in a way. Both are small, secluded and strong lads who end up going wayhire with their mass power.
Not to sound corny but I really felt Kieran’s frustration about losing. I was competitive too but soon let go of that. It’s fine to improve yourself but doing that to be better than others as your main reason can really cause burnout. Anyways this is a disorganized list of thoughts I wanted to share but if you read it the entire thing I really do got to say thank you for taking the time to do so.
EDIT: fixed some grammar and stuff because this was just a run-on draft lol

before the incident happen Steven, mike and y/n are good friends , steven got miki, mike have squirtle and y/n got bulbasaur. y/n is not good at battling but good at support steven and mike. when steven won and become the champion y/n congratulations both of them and y/n give mike an suggestion to fill out the pokedex instead, mike agreed to this. when the incident happen steven left, y/n comfort mike when he blame himself but y/n keep telling him that its wasn’t his fault it was the trading machine. when steven return and tell mike that he going to sleep y/n have a bad feeling about it so they suggested to stay their home for the night which steven and mike agreed to this. later on night steven quietly left to get missingno and return to mike room and about to strangle mike y/n rush in and push steven, steven is angry at y/n to let fake miki in peace but y/n keeping telling steven "is this miki want this?" then y/n pull out they pokeball and threw it and tell venasuar to used vine whip to stop steven and turn on the light to see the fake miki. steven is shock and crying "I just want her back and I miss her so much!" then the fake miki disappeared, y/n comfort steven and telling him "it wasn’t you or mike fault, its just an accident" when steven crying and hear a voice " don’t forget I’m with in your heart" steven see the window and saw miki in a ghost form with sadness oh her face, steven realise his anger and sadness "what have I done...." (woah that my longest ask I ever got)
And this is my longest Pokepasta fic thus far!! Which is basically my retelling of Strangled Red’s story (but with Y/N and a bittersweet ending au)
......................
While you weren't the very best at Pokémon battles, you were an excellent supporter of those who dedicated their lives to it.
For instance, there’s your best friends Steven and Mike. You’ve known the brothers for years, the three of you dreaming of the day you could train your very own Pokémon.
When the time finally arrived, they chose Charmander and Squirtle respectively, while you happily picked Bulbasaur. Immediately they bickered over the superior Pokémon and initiated a battle, in which Steven achieved his first victory. You were proud of him, but declined when he offered to battle you next.
Instead you remained in Pallet Town, quietly training your Bulbasaur and other captured Pokémon in peace while the two explored the region to conquer the gyms and earn badges.
You had a nice garden of berry trees and a small stock of potions should the brothers or any of your friends need them for their Pokémon. Some Team Rocket goons came along to steal your supplies and kidnap your Bulbasaur, but they evolved into Ivysaur, attacking with a powerful Solar Beam that sent the evil-doers running scared.
Nobody was going to harm your beloved grass-type on your watch.
Meanwhile, you’ve overheard news that Steven was gaining quite the reputation throughout Kanto, as his Charmander--who he named Miki--proved to be much stronger than others of her species. And she was quick to evolve into a powerful Charizard.
She swept the competition when fighting the Elite Four; type disadvantages and super effective attacks didn’t stop her one bit. Soon afterwards, she and her trainer were back in a familiar setting:
Facing off against Mike and his Blastoise.
Against all odds, Steven won and earned the title of champion, which was quickly televised as news reporters flocked to Indigo Plateau.
You were elated to see the brothers shaking hands on TV. You couldn’t be prouder of what they achieved throughout their long journey.
Once they returned home, you threw them a big party alongside your recently-evolved Venusaur and your main Pokémon team to celebrate. While Steven deserved it for becoming champion, you made sure Mike wasn’t left out, saying that him beating all the gyms and the Elite Four was no small feat.
It was a huge victory for both of them--your lifelong friends.
All in all, it was an amazing day.
Probably the best day of your lives.
............
“Heya, how’s the Pokedex coming along?”
“Oh great! I just need one more Pokémon to complete it, then I can finally get my hands on that sweet, sweet diploma.”
“Nice! So who is it? Mew?”
“......uh, no.”
“...Aerodactyl..or Zapdos?”
“....I have all the Legendaries and fossil Pokémon. You’ll laugh if I tell you who I’m missing..”
“Try me.”
“It’s Charizard, okay?” Sighing, Mike slumped over the couch in defeat, finally ripping the bandaid off. His face was flushed as he stared at the screen of his Pokedex, frowning at the empty space beside Charmeleon.
Although you did promise not to laugh, you couldn’t help but be slightly amused that he was missing the final evolution of a starter, of all things.
Ever since Steven won the championship, Mike revealed to you that he was still a bit salty over losing, pouting over it in recent days. So you suggested that he tried finishing the Pokedex instead, and he loved the idea.
He got to work searching for all the Pokémon he missed in his journey, even revisiting the most dangerous places.
Of course, his heart was bigger than his brain most of the time, and you expected him to come back beaten up and empty handed...
Only to show up at your doorstep beaten up, but with an annoyed Mewtwo at his side, grinning from ear-to-ear. He even proudly admitted to finding a shiny or two.
Least to say, you were very impressed.
So to learn he acquired that one before a Charizard had you shaking your head. “Seriously? That’s all?"
“..I know it’s dumb. I should’ve had one since the beginning. But I’ve had crap luck with finding a Charizard. I’d train a Charmander but that just takes too much time..” Pouting slightly, Mike tapped his fingers against the table, thinking.
Then he suddenly sat up and snapped them. “Aha! I know what to do! I’ll just borrow Steven’s!” His eyes practically shimmered as he looked at you. “We can trade!!”
You blinked. “You really think he’d give up Miki that easily-?”
“Oh no, no, no! I-It’s only gonna be a temporary trade!” He stammered in correction. “She needs to recognize me as the trainer in order for the entry to register. Besides, Steven said he just needed a Blastoise...so we’ll swap our Pokémon for a quick second and then swap ‘em right back! That way, we finish the dex at the same time.”
“Hm, sounds like a good idea. As long as he’s okay with it.” You nodded in agreement, smiling.
“Yeah! He can trust me. Man, I’m a genius.” He laughed, standing up and stretching before eagerly grabbing his Pokedex and bag. “I’ll go talk to him about it. Smell ya later, [y/n]!”
"Later, Mikey!”
With that, he left your house, waving goodbye to Venusaur--who was tending to the plants on your windowsill. They waved a vine right back.
He was super excited.
Why didn’t he think about this sooner?
.............
“I don’t want to.”
“What? Come on, I just gotta borrow her for a second to finish the Pokedex.” Mike pouted as he and Steven chatted in front of the computer. “The entry won’t register unless she recognizes me as master for just a second.”
“...but she’s my Miki.” The latter muttered, clutching his bag’s strap closer to his body.
Least to say, this was a side to Steven that Mike’s never seen before. Of course he knew how much Miki meant to him, but to be this clingy seemed ridiculous. It’s not like he was going to run off with his Charizard the moment she was in his possession.
"I promise I’ll give her back. Come on, please?”
“........”
“..please? I talked to [y/n] about it, and they said it’s fine.”
Despite Steven’s continued hesitance, he eventually gave in and nodded silently. “Fine..let’s be quick about it.”
“Alright! This will take just a sec.” Mike ducked down to ensure all the cables were connected, before getting back on the chair. He booted up the trading system on the computer, the tubes extending outwards. “Then we’ll both be Pokemasters! How awesome would that be?” He chuckled.
As they took out their respective starter pokeballs, Steven stared down at Miki’s with a slight frown.
The idea of giving someone else the Charizard he adored and cared for, even temporarily, made him nervous.
But...he could trust his own brother, right? Mike would never try to steal his precious Pokémon.
And besides, you said it was okay, too. So why was he so worried?
Certain that promise will be kept, Steven started the trade first, setting the pokeball down on the table. It was vacuumed up into the machine, displaying a small sprite of a Charizard as it travelled through the tube.
He relaxed his shoulders a little, waiting patiently for the transfer to finish.
“Mike?”
“Yeah?”
“In case you’re worried..I also promise to give you back-”
SNAP
The loud sound startled the brothers, who looked back at the screen and realized it was somehow frozen, with Miki in the middle of the tube.
“Huh? What’s going on?” Mike’s eyebrows furrowed with confusion as he tapped on some of the keys, but nothing on-screen changed. “That’s weird. Must be glitching or something..”
Steven, on the other hand, felt his heart sinking into his stomach, wondering what the hell that noise was and why the trade suddenly stopped working. “What do you mean? I thought you checked this thing. I-Is Miki alright?”
“..I-I don’t know. I swear everything’s been updated..” Mike kept trying to get the damn thing to work, though he was starting to panic as nothing was happening. “Shit..shit...I’ve never had this issue before.”
“You mean..she’s stuck in there?!”
Maybe, I don't know! I’m gonna have to reboot-”
“NO!” Steven snapped, realizing what a huge mistake this was. “We need to get her out NOW!! Shutting it down might hurt her!!”
“We don’t know that! She might be fine!”
“Well how do you know that for-?!”
However, they stopped arguing as the screen became overwhelmed with glitches, before abruptly shutting down. And they stared at it, a tense silence falling over them both as they tried to process what happened to the machine.
Then the tubes slowly retracted, though not before one spat out Miki’s pokeball the same way it entered. But it was heavily damaged, splits and cracks all over its surface.
It managed to roll over towards Steven, who picked it up with shaky hands to examine it..
Horrified to find a bloody cable dangling out of it.
“....Miki?”
..........
[One Year Later]
While Steven was away visiting Pokémon Tower, you decided to check up on Mike. You knew he couldn’t have been doing well at all...considering it’s a rather somber anniversary:
The day of Miki’s death.
Investigators looked at the trading machine in the brothers’ home and ruled it as accidental due to faulty internal wiring. Upon examination of her body and the pokeball, they theorized that it got damaged when the system glitched, somehow allowing the cords to breach the device and wrap around her throat.
The machine still attempted to finish the transfer...essentially strangling the poor Charizard to death as she was dragged through the tube.
As to what caused the glitch remained unknown. Several Team Rocket grunts were interrogated, suspected of sabotaging the machine remotely...yet all of them denied having such knowledge or even the technology to do that.
Other trading computers throughout the region were checked, with the majority of them having no issues. Even so, everyone in Kanto was advised to use them with caution and do “test” transfers with empty pokeballs first.
Despite there being no arrests, it didn’t make Steven feel any better about what happened that tragic night.
He lost his favorite Pokémon, his starter, his ace....his precious Miki.
When she died, it was like a part of him died with her.
The depression hit him so bad, he gave up on everything that made him the great champion of Kanto. He released his Pokémon, abandoned his badges...and even handed all of his money to you.
You tried convincing him to keep some for himself, but he got so angry that he cried, saying it’s useless to him since “it couldn’t buy her back”.
Needless to say, you reluctantly took every last dollar.
It was heartbreaking to see him throw away all that he worked for, unable to cope with the grief. But then again, they were constant reminders of how Miki helped him achieve those things..so it’s understandable that he’d want to get rid of them.
Of course, you remained friends--same with Mike. You knew it was nobody’s fault, only the trading machine’s.
Yet their relationship was forever strained, a rift that wouldn’t be so easily mended. Over the past year, they hardly spoke to each other unless it involved yelling or crying. There’s very few days where they had casual chats that didn’t escalate.
Both of them were just shadows of their former selves.
So while Steven was out of town paying his respects, you gave him space on that, opting to see how Mike’s doing.
But the emotional and physical toll this day took on him was clear as he answered the door. His spiky brown hair was even more of a mess, and it’s obvious he had been crying and didn’t bother to hide it. He was still in his pjs, too, a blanket around his shoulders.
The guilt continued to haunt him, considering he suggested the trade that inevitably killed Miki. He kept his Pokémon and eventually completed the Pokedex...but he felt numb when given the diploma.
If anything, it seemed like a hollow achievement--one that he felt unworthy of despite Professor Oak’s reassurances.
You never even saw it, but that’s not why you’re here.
“Hey, Mikey. Can I come in?”
“You sure you wanna be around a Pokémon murderer?” He joked dryly, sniffling as he invited you inside anyway.
Together you sat on the couch, and you looked at him as he took shaky breaths. You could tell he was about to cry again, so you scooted closer to hug him. “I keep telling you..you’re not a murderer.” You spoke softly, rubbing his back. “You didn’t mean for that to happen.”
Immediately he crumbled in your arms, dampening your shoulder with tears as he began to sob, shaking. “I-I can’t...stop blaming myself, though. Every night..I..I-I dream of her blood on my hands..and I hear Steven saying how much he hates me..a-and wants me dead.”
You held him closely, frowning. “Mike..”
“I shouldn’t have begged for that trade like...l-like a stupid little kid. He didn’t wanna do it, and I pushed him!! It’s all my fault..I-I killed her...”
“No. You didn’t kill anyone.”
“..b-but-”
“You didn’t cause the glitch. I know that for a fact. Something like that has never happened in the history of Pokémon trading..it’s nothing that you did, Mikey.”
“...were we just unlucky?”
“...yeah.” You regretted telling him that, but you both knew it was true.
There was no easy way to comfort him over this. No amount of words could ever ease the guilt that crushed his spirit.
So you just held onto him for a little bit longer, knowing he needed you now more than ever.
After he calmed down, you decided to keep him company for the remainder of the day. His Blastoise also hung out with you both, as they understood his pain and missed Miki dearly, though they never blamed their master for what happened.
Later that evening, Steven finally returned home. He was somber as usual, shoulders slumped and exhaustion in his eyes as he looked around the now empty living room.
At last he was here, away from all the townsfolk who tried giving him crap out of “pity”.
It was all meaningless garbage, stuff that they could be using for themselves instead of wasting it on him
He internally scorned them for saying he should’ve gotten over it by now.
No..
Absolutely nothing could help him get over Miki.
Not when the sound of that snapping was still fresh in his mind, playing over and over like a record.
All he wanted to do now was sleep. He didn’t care about anything else. So he headed to the bedroom, finding you and Mike watching TV in there. The brunette glanced at him briefly upon seeing the door open, but was unable to say anything except a shaky apology before curling up in bed, turning away.
"Hey, Stevie.”
Looking at you, Steven simply nodded in greeting. His expression was blank, although his eyes watered as you stood up to hug him, finally allowing himself to be a bit more vulnerable around you.
While he didn’t show it as much as Mike, he appreciated your presence throughout this difficult year. You never pitied him, not like everyone else in town who told him to “move on” or shamed him for abandoning his champion status.
After letting you go first, he bowed his head, speaking in a hoarse murmur that you could barely hear despite him being right in front of you. “I’m going to sleep.”
Even though you were happy to hear him talking, you didn’t necessarily like the idea of the brothers being here all by themselves.
Not only because you wanted to be there during their time of grief..but also because you had a bad feeling in your gut.
At that moment, you didn't know why. It simply didn’t feel right to leave them alone. Not tonight.
“Why don’t you guys spend the night at my place?” You suggested with a soft smile, noticing Mike glancing at you now. “A change of scenery might help. And I have two spare bedrooms if you don’t wanna share one.”
Both of them were silent for a few moments, though they both eventually agreed, wordlessly getting some of their things together for the sleepover.
Soon you all headed over to your house, getting settled in for the night.
You slept in your usual room while Steven and Mike took the spares, secretly relieved they didn’t have to share.
You made some teas to help with their insomnia.
However, Steven's remained cold by his bedside, as the solitude finally gave the ex-champion time to think.
He laid wide awake in bed, holding onto one single thought:
It was something he overheard back in Lavender Town..ghost stories of how it, a “taboo Pokémon”, was lurking in the waters of Cinnebar. Unlike manufactured digital Pokémon like Porygons, this one was a physical glitch living in the real world.
It supposedly held an unfathomable power that violated natural laws, thus being forbidden from being caught by trainers.
These rumors used to scare him into not surfing out too far.
But...if it was truly capable of performing the impossible, then what if he could tame it? Control it like any ordinary Pokemon?
Maybe it could even help him, unlike all of these useless people of Kanto who claim “dead is best”.
No.
He wouldn’t accept that. He couldn’t keep living with the grief, knowing this world cheated him and took what he loved most away from him.
Why should he play fair?
It was about time he did something about it.
'I’m going to do it. IT can bring her back. IT can do anything..’
...............
Indeed, it was true.
Missingno, the glitch Pokémon, was right there in Cinnebar--almost as if it was waiting for him.
It immediately joined his side without any hesitation, and he used it back at Pokémon Tower, neglecting the professor’s warnings.
And it worked!
He got her back! It was like a goddamn miracle.
Now all he had to do was return to your home, eager to show you his beloved Charizard. Within her damaged pokeball, she slept soundly, and he refused to let go of it. She was still weak, but he vowed to make her strong again.
Just knowing his plan worked made him smile deliriously as he wandered throughout Kanto, not needing any bikes or flying-types to carry him. Hell, he didn’t even need a Pokémon to swim out to find Missingno!
It empowered him with a foreign dark force, stronger than anything a dark-type could cast upon him. But he didn't feel bad at all.
Far from that, actually.
For the first time in his life since the tragedy, he felt...happy.
He was so happy, he couldn’t stop smiling. And he wondered why all the trainers who were out this late suddenly averted their gazes as he walked by.
Even the officers didn’t try to stop him, instead nervously telling him to move along and stop staring at them.
They seemed to know the power he possessed.
He was living it..breathing it.
By Arceus, did it feel good.
After entering your house, Steven quietly locked the door before heading to the room where Mike was currently sleeping.
He stopped and loomed over his bed, staring down at him with such hatred..
How could he sleep at night, knowing that he’s suffering because of his selfish actions?
Something like that is unforgivable.
"STRANGLE”
A hushed, distorted voice whispered to him once, and his smile only grew more.
What a fitting end that would be for his brother...her murderer. It was slow, but quiet so you wouldn’t hear what was happening. That was fine by him.
He can make things look like accidents, too.
He was so close to getting her back.
They'll be reunited! Together forever!
That sounded delightful. All he needed to do was finish the job by avenging her.
“Goodbye.” He rasped, startling Mike awake as he looked up to see the tall figure staring down at him in the darkness of the room, terrified to his very core.
“Steven!!”
Tensing, Steven noticed you running into the room, only to freeze in shock at what he looked like:
His face was overcast with the darkest shadows, eyes glowing an eerie red, and his hair extremely frazzled--worse than a feral Arcanine’s mane.
But what was most horrifying about him was the pearly white grin that stretched from ear-to-ear.
It looked so..unnatural.
And you knew exactly why he was like this.
"Get away from him, now!!"
As you shoved him away from Mike, Steven stumbled back clumsily, seething at you for foiling his plan. "He told you.."
“You can’t do this, Steven. This isn’t going to change what happened!”
He didn’t understand the cost. What bringing a Pokémon back from the dead would do to this world..and to himself.
You couldn't let him go any further.
“No, but it worked. She’s here with me again. See?” Laughing hoarsely, he dropped a broken pokeball, watching as it rolled near the dark corner of the room. It opened up to reveal the shadow of a Charizard without a flaming tail.
You could barely see it, but it wasn’t the Miki you all knew and loved.
“Th-That’s not her, Steven..it’s lying to you. Do you think she would’ve wanted this?!”
“Yes.” He spat with such coldness, growing increasingly frustrated. “She’d want me to kill the bastard who took her away from me..this is the only way, [y/n]."
You just shook your head, knowing what you’ll have to do now. You didn’t wanna hurt him, but if there was any humanity left in him....you’ll have to bring that out somehow.
"I'm gonna ask you once..stop this. Put that thing back in the grave.”
“Never.”
“....then I’m sorry.” Reaching into your pocket, you grabbed a pokeball and tossed it to the floor. “Venusaur! Help me out!”
Your starter emerged with a growl. But upon realizing they’re in a bedroom and not on a battlefield, they glanced at you in confusion. “Ve? Venus?”
“Use Vine Whip on Steven.”
“...saur?” They swung their head towards Steven and M@#$, suddenly overcome with terror and bewilderment. But despite their scary appearances, Venusaur was conflicted about harming a human; they simply looked back at you.
“Just trust me.” You pleaded.
“What..? You can’t do that!!” Steven shouted, gritting his teeth at your betrayal. “You can’t attack me with a Pokemon’s move!!”
“If you can cheat, so can I. Now USE VINE WHIP!!”
“WHY YOU-!!” He darted forward to tackle you, but a flash of green lashed out at him, slashing his hands with searing pain that made him cry out.
You stepped aside as he was then tripped by vines, collapsing to his knees. His back was heaving as he pressed his forehead to the ground, screaming in agony and frustration.
If he had to kill you, too..so be it. He'll strangle anyone who tried stopping him from being with Miki.
"Y-You want me to be unhappy...IS THAT IT?!! YOU DON'T WANT ME TO GET BETTER?!!"
"We do wanna help you, Steven..but not like this." You shook your head, rushing to Mike's side and sitting with him. He hugged you, trembling in fear. Venusaur joined you too and took a defensive stance.
Steven snarled animalistically as he stood back up, noticing the dozens of cuts on his fingers. He'll admit, your starter was smart and had some sharp thorns, but that only succeeded in pissing him off.
Then a sudden bright light illuminated the room, and he looked to see them retract their vine. He scowled. “I’ll burn you all alive...MIKI, USE-!!!”
However, as he pointed to you and glanced at his Charizard at the same time..he suddenly stopped himself.
His throat tightened upon seeing what she truly looked like, now that the darkness could no longer conceal her.
He was so confused.
What he brought back from the grave wasn’t Miki at all...but a glitchy rotting corpse that struggled to resemble her.
Her flesh was falling off, especially around the neck, muscle and skeletal remains exposed in countless places--and her wings had many holes in them. The pitiful thing could barely even stand, needing the walls to support her.
And her face..oh god, her face...
It was nothing but a decaying skull with veins, dried blood, and hollow sockets staring at him.
The whine she emitted was horrendous, and full of glitches that pained Steven’s ears, as he covered them. ‘No..this..this can’t be...’ He was mortified, realizing his mistake.
It didn’t bring her back. Not at all. Instead it put an abomination in her place, feeding off of his guilt and rage.
It tricked him.
You had no idea how Steven would react to seeing the truth, but you gave Venusaur a pat on the head for their quick thinking.
For a while he stood there, but soon he was on his knees again. The darkness overshadowing his entire face was gone, instead revealing an expression of genuine anguish and tears.
“...y-you lied to me. I just..I just wanted her back!! I-I miss her..”
M@#$ tilted her head, emitting a softer yet heavily glitched growl.
“Leave...GET OUT!! YOU’LL NEVER BE HER!!” Steven screamed heartbrokenly, watching as the corrupt Charizard finally dissolved into pixels.
At last, she was gone..now that he saw through its façade.
You were relieved to see it let him go, returning him to his old self. So you got up and cautiously approached him, although you felt a vine loosely wrap itself around your hand.
“Saur?”
You looked back at Venusaur, smiling in reassurance. “It’s alright now. You did good.”
“..ven.” Nodding in understanding, they let you go, watching you walk over to the weeping man on the floor. You kneeled down, and he looked shocked to see you in front of him.
But before he could say anything, you pulled him into a hug. Despite his attempts to kill you and Mike..you knew that wasn’t him talking. This was one of your best friends.
You knew he was in there somewhere--and you were happy he was back.
“I-I’m so, so sorry..” He clung to you, shaking as he apologized over and over again. “I’m a monster. I...I-I thought..I could save her. But I just killed her again..”
His fingers still stung, but nothing was more painful than the misery and guilt in his heart.
“No you didn’t, Steven.” Tears pricked your own eyes as you soon helped him to his feet. He managed to sit down on the bed once you both made it over there, right next to Mike while you sat near Venusaur. “What happened wasn’t your fault, neither was it Mike’s. And I know she wouldn’t blame either of you guys for it.”
“Venus..ve..” Nodding in agreement, Venusaur rested their head on your lap, and as you pet them, you could see Mike and Steve staring at each other for the longest time. Their expressions were almost unreadable.
You wondered what would happen. It made you a little nervous.
But to your surprise, Mike made the first move as he hugged his younger brother. “I know you s-still hate me. You have every right to. But please..d-don’t do something like that ever again, okay? I..I can’t lose you, too, bro.” He sniffled, doing his best to keep himself together.
Steven, on the other hand, broke down once more upon hearing the hurt in his voice. He sobbed into his black shirt, finally allowing himself to be comforted by the other.
He knew he didn’t deserve any forgiveness..not when he tried trading his life for hers.
You were right about everything. This isn’t what Miki would’ve wanted.
“Char...”
Hearing a voice, he looked up, putting his chin on Mike’s shoulder as he glanced at the window. His eyes widened in disbelief upon seeing a certain Charizard’s ghostly reflection in the window.
It wasn’t that awful glitchy creature..but the real Miki.
A pinkish scar was visible around her neck, albeit barely visible, and a somber expression adorned her face. Her flaming tail flickered brightly against the night sky, as if it was lit anew.
She looked so real, as if she was right outside the window and wanted to crawl in. But Steven knew she wasn’t actually there.
She was gone. Nothing could bring her back. Not even it. He had to let her go.
The only part of her he could keep alive were the memories.
With a watery smile, he nodded to the reflection, watching as she smiled back and disappeared, though not before he heard that same voice in his head, this time in human language.
“Don’t forget, I’ll always be in your heart, Master. Keep that fire going.”

strawberry smoothie || vinnie hacker x reader
Tumblr media
watching her boyfriend’s hard work and dedication towards training these last few months really inspired y/n. she thought it was about time she did right by her body, giving up the constant snacking on junk food and laying around all day for something more productive.
expressing her desire to begin exercising and live a healthier lifestyle with vinnie, he was immediately thrilled. he absolutely loved when his girl would visit him at the warehouse during work out sessions, acting as his own little cheerleader and supplying him with kisses throughout for moral support as she liked to called it.
but to have her by his side, working out together, was a dream to him. he never brought it up to her, not wanting pressure the girl and make her feel like he thought she needed to work out. so having y/n come to him on her own accord had him wanting to get to the gym as soon as they possibly could.
“i was planning on going in the morning. you wanna come with?”
y/n nodded back in response. “that works, i don’t have anything going on tomorrow.”
in all honesty, she was just as excited as vinnie. having an excuse to see her boyfriend all sweaty and shirtless was all the motivation she needed to actually commit to this wellness journey she was eager to embark on.
that is until the next morning.
the sound of vinnie’s alarm blaring throughout the couple’s shared bedroom startled her awake. she swore she just fell asleep only moments ago, how is it already morning?
smushing her face into the pillow and pulling the covers over her head in attempt to dull the irksome noise, she felt vinnie stir beside her.
when y/n finally heard the alarm abruptly stop, she peaked her head out from under the covers just a bit, hoping vinnie would simply forget she was even there and leave without her.
nevertheless, she was met with the sight of him looking back at her. “good morning, baby.”
“morning?” she groaned, “the sun is barely even up yet, it’s practically still night. why on earth are we up at this ungodly hour?”
he laughed at his girlfriend’s response, knowing this was exactly how she was going to react. part of the reason he only told her they would be going in the morning, not giving so much as a specific time. “you wanted to come work out with me. never said it was going to be fun, sweetheart.” he smirked.
“no i will come workout with you when it’s actually morning, also known as eleven a.m. not a minute before. now goodnight.” she said, going to turn over so she could fall back asleep.
however, vinnie was not taking no for answer. pulling her to sit up before he lost the girl until noon, he rapidly came up with a plan that would get her to go. he would simply bribe her; and he knew precisely what it was going to take.
“c’mon we’ll only go for an hour. and afterwards i’ll take you to your favorite smoothie place, and then we’ll come back here and cuddle all day.”
vinnie could see the gears turning in his girlfriend’s head. he had her right where he wanted her, using two of her favorite things to get there: a strawberry smoothie and some cuddles.
“fine. but just one hour. and you’re paying for the smoothies,” y/n muttered.
“deal!” the boy instantly replied with a sense of victory.
after changing into one of the many cute workout sets y/n finally had a reason to wear, and putting her hair into a high pony, the couple made their way to the warehouse for what y/n hoped to be a quick workout.
during their session, vinnie showed her how to do all of the exercises and assisted her in lifting weights. while of course praising her throughout, knowing she was slightly nervous to mess up and embarrass herself. but vinnie assured how amazing she did once they finished.
“you did so good, baby. even better than me during my first time.”
y/n blushed at the compliment, still getting butterflies from the handsome boy even after over a year of dating.
“smoothie time!” she grinned, excited to finally get the strawberry smoothie she’d been thinking about the whole morning.
as promised, he paid for both their smoothies and drove back to the house for a day full of cuddles.

Lol i am absolutely paralysed by the thought of the Trainer Clavell AU. Just the sheer breadth of adorableness and hilarity, but also angst and hurt/comfort.......... Broooo. Him and Arven gotta hug it out lol, their mixed feelings about the profs hgnghghgh.
And Clavell journeying around Paldea!!! His silly Clive outfit amongst the Gym Leaders + staff lmao. Geeta breaking her professional facade to just burst out laughing when he steps through the doors into the League. Or even trailing him throughout the gyms + giggling every time the gym leaders fall for "Clive". It's makes her day every damn time LOL.
IONO STREAM TOO. "I'm battling Clive today!!!". it's going to be broadcast on stream sdflskdjgds. Maybe the adorable thing is that he actually thinks he looks good, and does all the "cool poses" and hair styling when the camera is on him. Geeta is dying from laughter but her poker face game is strong, she's going to last until Clive is facing her at the League sdlfkjns.
Brassius marvels at his pompadour (A work of art he calls it). Kofu, fellow old man, admires "his youthfulness". CLIVE AND RYME RAP BATTLE (lol Tyme getting sent a photo of "this cool new trainer just beat me at the gym").
Also all the picnics with Arven... and the giant lizard doggos. The rival battles with Nemona..... ldksjngfd Clavell/Clive actually getting close to his students over his journey through Paldea.
The final battle, need I say more?????? Angst to the nigh. So horrifying it must be to find the labs he once lived in for years to turn into all of this. Aljdsgsd. THE PROFS. THE AIs. THE DERGS.
Also the whole school + everyone he's met coming by to support him at the end sdfgsdlgd. HOLLERING this au would be so much fun and delicious as a full story.

hello....tell me about your trainer oc........
Hello my dear pal and friend it’s rambling time
- Krys started their Pokémon journey around when they just turned 16, and age throughout their travels. They’re 22 by the end of their time in Paldea.
- Though trainers typically start traveling at age ten, Krys and their neighbor Laurel (Laurel Oak. It’s supposed to be the Kanto rival. :3), spent that time with Professor Oak to work on building the first digital pokedex.
- Krys kinda sorta released their Johto team as well as their partner, Aurora, at the end of their Johto journey in order to protect the legendary beasts. Over the years those pokemon passed their roles onto local wild pokemon, and one by one returned to Pallet Town for Krys to visit again.
- Aurora the eevee on the other hand, stayed behind until she met a trainer named Adam with a dragonite. Aurora decided to help him earn the indigo league badges, and then she met up with Krys after they participated in the Hoenn League conference. Aurora, as Adam’s pokemon at the time, battled against Krys’ Hoenn team during the preliminary rounds.
- Krys’ mom lives in Pallet Town, working as a pokemon nurse. Their father is Norman, who moved to Hoenn to run his gym in Petalburg after inheriting it from his mother. Krys’ paternal aunt moved from Kanto to Hoenn, and they helped her move, which is how they ended up there.
- Also Archie and Maxie are unofficially now their uncles. Krys has no say in the matter. Ingo and Emmet too. When Krys became drinking age they all became good drinking buddies.
- Krys can understand Pokémon. You can imagine how interesting it was when they met N.
- Officially owns and trains legendary pokemon, but only two: a Latias named Artemis and Miraidon named Harley. Mew and Mewtwo are very good friends of Krys, and they respect that they both wish to remain wild pokemon.
- Is canonically not a virgin. Good for them. Good for them.
- If Krys were a pokemon, they’d be a shiny riolu!
- Krys took on a big sibling role to Arven, Nemona, and Penny (who I hc as being 17, 16, and 13 respectively). However, Krys is around the height of the player character of ScVi. Short king fr.
- In Paldea, they worked alongside Jacq as his assistant teacher, though they also traveled around the region whenever they weren’t scheduled to assist. Fine by them, as it gave them time to help with Miraidon, Arven, Team Star, and try the Gym Challenge of this region. The Paldea league is the first, and so far only, time that they’ve made it to a champion rank trainer.
- They also had traveling companions just like Ash did in the anime, although these are more OCs rather than canon characters. Although journeying through Galar, Krys went along with Hop to look out for him while he did the gym challenge, with Krys having a supportive mentor role.
- I’ve mentioned this before, but Krys’ travels only last ten years. Professor Oak retires around this time, and Krys comes back to Kanto, being handed the title of Pokémon Professor.
There’s more fun facts and stuff I wanna talk about but I’m not coming up with anything else atm shdjdbd. I have like. Their whole journey planned out and most of what happens during them. tysm for this pal it is really great to ramble fr

Pokemon Horizons Episode 20 Review - Kabu Time
It’s finally nice to actually see a Galarian Gym in full! What I mean is that since Ash didn’t focus much on Gyms in favor of the PWC in Journeys, Galarian Gym Leaders have been brushed off to the side aside from a few. Kabu didn’t make an appearance in the previous series so for him to have an entire episode of spotlight dedicated to him, his Gym Test, and his Gym Trainer was very nice to see! It’s finally time Galar got the respect it deserved.
Tumblr media
In Galar, Gym Leaders are like celebrities, so it’s nice to see that sort of vibe when Kabu was in the Battle Cafe. He’s still the same passionate and wise character like he was in the game. He gave a lot of advice that hopefully will be useful for future development—especially Liko’s. I do like how he sees their potential and does his best to bring it out. He sent out his Centiskorch, who’s too OP for rookie trainers like Liko and Roy and I’m glad that he didn’t hold back. That would defeat the purpose of the wisdom he implemented onto Liko.
Liko’s major flaw as a character is that she’s kind and considerate. While those are good traits, they are also weaknesses in a way. Holding back will only let opportunities slip away; I’ve held back many things in the past out of consideration for others, but I then realized as I got older about all the missed opportunities I could’ve had if I wasn’t so caring towards others. Being too considerate for Wakaba caused her to be upset and for Sprigatito to get annoyed. Consideration is a double-edged sword in a way. While it’s nice to have, it can hurt others. I’m glad that Liko learned how it could hurt others and how selfish it can be from a different perspective. This can open up a path of development for Liko as she has to learn that being too nice on a battlefield isn’t always right and showing compassion isn’t always a good thing. I’m also glad that she actually contemplated on her actions and Kabu’s words at the end of the episode; like her, it makes me wonder what sort of Trainer she will become.
Roy is his usual self in this episode. However, I do notice that he was shown as Liko’s opposite int his episode. While he is kind, he’s not holding back on Fuecoco. While Fuecoco is down, Roy’s doing all he can to encourage and support his crocodile and, in turn, that’s what caused Fuecoco to learn Flamethrower. However, I do wish that Roy gets an opponent on his level soon and not get jobbed by stronger opponents. He’s essentially bringing a knife to a gun fight.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but Wakaba is the first instance of a Gym Trainer in a Galar-focused episode. While she’s a Gym Trainer apprentice, it’s nice to see the system of Gym Trainers be implemented in the anime. When was the last time we had Gym Trainers mentioned in a past series? Wakaba is a girl who admires Kabu and wants to be a Gym Trainer out of admiration. I do feel bad for her because she’s essentially fodder in this episode. She’s fodder for Liko to be nice to. She was fodder in the first part of the double battle as she was just sitting there and not helping out; though, I get why she just stood there because she’s still inexperienced in a way. It was super nice seeing Rolycoly spinning around like a top and I wish there was more action.
I do want to see Liko and Roy grow after this battle. I’m sure they will accumulate everything they have acquired throughout this journey to become the best versions of themselves in the future. I’m sure that we won’t recognize the flawed children they once were a few years from now. Next time, they're heading to the Galar Mines to find Rayquaza after hearing Kabu's anecdote. What are your thoughts on this episode?

over-analysis of ash ketchum's relationship with his companions,, part 2
Disclaimer: I will be looking at each relationship from first a platonic standpoint, and then a romantic standpoint. Some of the romantic standpoints will also have a sub-category of AroAce!Ash (I am not on the a-spectrum, so feel free to correct me if I get anything wrong). When looking at a possible romance between Ash and a male companion, I will be ignoring the actual possibility of Pokemon allowing a non-heterosexual relationship, and looking at it from an emotional standpoint rather than a logical one. I will try my best to let my past history as a SatoSere shipper, AureliaShipper, and a SatoGou Shipper not impact my views. I have not watched all of the animes, so feel free to correct me on certain parts. I will only be looking at companions from the main anime (no movies).
Dawn:
Platonic:
If Misty and Ash are the kind of siblings who are constantly in each other's faces, then Dawn’s dynamic with Ash is the opposite. Their sibling-like relationship is a more supportive one, with both of them cheering the other on. They each heavily influence the other throughout the Diamond and Pearl series. Their signature high five is a symbol of the trust they put in each other. At this point in the anime, Ash isn’t portrayed as very touchy-feely with other people (at least not like he is with his Pokemon). Ash only gives high fives and handshakes occasionally, with the extremely rare side hug. His high fives with Dawn are constant and shown as a comforting act between the two of them. It’s their equivalent to 2 close siblings' secret handshake. It’s a sign of active trust put between the two of them. Their relationship is supportive and positive, they’re each others’ (literal) biggest cheerleaders. It’s quite wholesome and sweet.
Romantic:
In the same way that their relationship is sibling-like, it can also be looked at from a romantic standpoint. The hints at a possible romantic attraction between the two exist, even if a bit hard to catch. Their high-fives can instead be seen as romantic rather than familial/platonic, and the support they give each other can seem more romantic. Dawn dressing up as a cheerleader to cheer Ash on can definitely be seen as a romantic attraction. The possibility of a romantic relationship between the two is there, even if never acted upon. Their close bond would provide a healthy, cute relationship between the two.
Iris:
Platonic:
Iris’s friendship with Ash is a bit complicated, to say the least. Iris and Ash are definitely friends, though their dynamic is a little odd. Iris constantly undermined Ash’s abilities, at least in the first bit of Black and White. Her arguments and teasing with Ash are often hypocritical and unnecessary. Though, this teasing can also be looked at from a ‘tough love’ perspective. Most of the quips and remarks she makes about Ash are definitely annoying, but you can tell that a lot of them come from a place of love. Her remarks are her way of showing that she does, in fact, care about Ash. This is also shown in her reappearance during Pokemon Journeys, where she's had time to develop off-screen. Both Iris and Ash have matured, so their friendship is less strained, and it’s easier to see that they both care about each other, even through all the teasing. As annoying as all her teasing is, you can tell that she cares about her friendship with Ash somewhere deep down.
Romantic:
The two do have some similar traits that would possibly make for a good romantic relationship. This includes their tendency to act stubborn, impulsive, headstrong, and impulsive. Iris’s reason for joining Ash on his journey is also a bit odd, and could imply some sort of romantic feelings. The look she gives him while watching his gym battle also seems to imply other… motives(?)in their friendship. Though, even if Iris does ever hold feelings for Ash, it is not likely that Ash would’ve ever returned them. Ash shows no signs of liking Iris and the signs that Iris shows are few and far between. Their dynamic is definitely better suited for friendship than a romantic relationship.
Cilan:
Platonic:
Ash and Cilan’s relationship is easily comparable to Ash and Brock’s; with the ‘soft reboot’ of Black and White providing Ash with the need for a new mentor figure. Cilan’s relationship with Ash is a stark contrast to Ash’s relationship with Iris; Cilan provides softer, more constructive criticism. He isn’t as quick to turn to insults, preferring to give advice in a more likeable way. Unlike Iris’s care for Ash which is buried deep under several layers of teasing, insults, and quips, Cilan is more upfront and easygoing. It is easy to tell that he enjoys being a mentor and cares deeply for his travelling companions.
Romantic:
Like Brock and Ash, Cilan’s age gap with Ash is quite large, with Cilan shown to be somewhere around 15 or 16. Ignoring that, the 2 have a more mentor-mentee dynamic, so the two wouldn’t be compatible in a romantic relationship.
Clemont:
Platonic:
Clemont and Ash’s dynamic is very close, and it’s easy to see that the two have a lot of mutual respect between them. They respect each other both personality-wise and trainer-wise. Clemont does sort of have the Brock position, him being the one taking care of all the cooking and cleaning. Though, I wouldn’t say he’s a mentor exactly. Since this is the first time the male companion is portrayed as close to Ash’s age, we can see that the dynamic between the two is unlike anything we’ve seen before. Previously, Ash has always been the one to look up to the male companion, but this time around, both of them admire each other. Their relationship is a stark contrast to Ash’s relationship with Brock, Tracey, and Cilan.
Clemont is often portrayed as more insecure; for a majority of the show, he has low self-esteem, low athleticism and is incredibly fearful, though incredibly intelligent. On the other hand, Ash is the opposite, he’s low in book smarts, but is confident and athletic. This creates a dynamic of admiration and respect that the two hold for the other’s strengths. Ash always cheers Clemont up with what is put as his “boundless optimism.” The two are both supportive of each other, and the respect they hold for each other is endless.
Romantic:
Ash and Clemont already have a bromance-like relationship, so it’s easy to portray their relationship as romantic. The respect they hold for each other can be easily twisted into a more romantic nature, and the admiration too can be looked at as romantic. This respect and admiration would be great in a romantic relationship if it were to ever be pursued. The two certainly have chemistry, and there are signs that can be seen as attraction. Clemont constantly blushes around Ash, especially when physical contact is initiated, and Ash goes all sparkly whenever Clemont introduces his inventions.
→ Sub Category. AroAce! Ash Ketchum
I’ve seen people discuss the possibility of a QPR/Queerplatonic relationship between them, so we’re going to quickly discuss that. For the people who don’t know, a QPR is a term for an intimate, but non-romantic relationship. It refers to a relationship that bends the line between a romantic relationship, and a non-romantic one. Queerplatonic relationships are most common between people on the a-spectrum, though are not exclusive to them.  If you want to learn more, you can do some quick research before you continue reading.
There are many people that see/headcanon Ash as on the A-spectrum, so let’s discuss the possibility of a QPR between Ash and Clemont. Though Ash and Clemont are close, the amount of actual romantic signs (blushing, bashfulness, and mentions of attraction) aren’t really there. So, some people have discussed the possibility of a QPR between the two. We’re definitely diverging from canon quite a bit, so I’ll be trying to keep this brief. The possibility of a QPR between Ash and Clemont is there, and their budding bromance would make for a great Queerplatonic relationship. Ash’s ‘touchiness’ around Clemont, along with the respect and admiration they hold for each other, is never seen as romantic, so a QPR is definitely a possibility to be explored. Though, this is definitely a lot more of a non-canon/headcanon thing the Pokiani community has going on, so this is the most I’ll be saying.
Bonnie:
Platonic:
Many people have put Bonnie, as ‘Max done right.’ This applies to Ash and Bonnie’s friendship, too. Bonnie is also a bit of a tag-along, but definitely became a real part of the gang. People may have been wary of her being a part of the group at first, but she certainly became well-liked. Bonnie, despite her age and childish nature, can also show maturity whenever necessary. She has a sweet, motivating personality, and has helped Ash out with his Pokemon. Bonnie is quick to cheer on Ash and his team during battle, always motivational in her own way. Bonnie shows real maturity when dealing with Pokemon, which applies to her relationship with Ash’s Pokemon too. Bonnie’s comedic relief aspect and Ash’s naturally funny nature provide some hilarious moments between her and Ash. Bonnie respects Ash as a trainer, which is something that Max didn’t show for most of his time with Ash, which I see as the main difference between Ash and Bonnie’s friendship compared to Ash and Max’s. The respect aspect is a key factor in their differing relationships. This leads to Ash and Bonnie’s friendship being much more fulfilling and pleasant to watch.
Romantic:
… I swear, even having to write the word ‘romantic’ in Bonnie’s section is killing me. No darn way. Bonnie is seen to be somewhere from 5-8, the prospect of even thinking about this… yuck.
Serena:
Platonic:
Serena and Ash have a great friendship. They share a close bond, built off of both mutual respect and a whole lot of admiration. You can tell that Serena values her friendship with Ash a lot, from both her actions and the fact that she started travelling with Ash simply because she knew him from childhood (and other reasons that we won’t be discussing in the platonic section). She is influenced heavily by Ash, and a lot of her character development was indirectly because of him. Ash also holds the same respect for Serena, and obviously cares about his and Serena’s friendship just as much. Serena being the one to snap him out of his anger/moping in episode 121 shows that Ash cares deeply for Serena (and the others). Were he to not care about Serena, he would probably not have snapped out of his moping, and would’ve continued being a bit of a prick for a while longer. Also, Ash gifting Serena the ribbon is another show of their bond and friendship. The two of them are definitely great friends.
Romantic:
Serena and Ash definitely have chemistry, especially with the amount of build-up in their relationship that happened during the show. Serena shows many signs of her crush on Ash, blushing incredibly often around him, and obviously The Kiss™. She holds a large amount of affection for him, as shown by both her actions and decisions. Her decision to start her journey to return the handkerchief, the way-too-many cookies she’s given him, and her wearing the blue ribbon she gave him, are all signs of her crush. On the other hand, Ash also shows a handful of signs that he may like Serena back, even if much less than Serena. He has many more ‘bashful’ moments around Serena, and his bond with her seems a bit different than all the other female companions. He’s given her gifts and has often complimented her. His reaction to Serena in the Fennekin costume can also be interpreted as attraction (though, it can also be seen as something similar to shock at Serena wearing something so different, it’s very much up to interpretation). Even if he’s never actually blushed, a lot of his reactions can still be seen as romantic feelings. The chemistry between the two of them is played up a lot more than it has ever been with any of Ash’s other companions. The Kiss™ has caused the pairing between Serena and Ash to be closer to canon than any other ship before them.
Now, when a ship is so popular, there are going to be some criticisms, and I have my fair share of them too. I’ll try to be careful and mention the more unbiased criticisms that have floated around. Firstly, the snowball scene. Serena states, “You’re [Ash] not acting like the Ash I know!” During this scene, Ash has temporarily reverted back to how he acted in previous seasons of Pokemon, where he is less mature. Though it was nice of Serena to try and comfort Ash, and it wasn’t right for Ash to respond to Serena in such a harsh manner, Serena’s approach to snap him out of it is a bit odd. I mean, obviously throwing snowballs at someone while they're upset is questionable, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. At this point in the anime, Serena has only properly known Ash for a few months. No matter how close they are, Serena doesn’t know everything about Ash just yet. The way she’s interacting with Ash can kind of be taken as her saying that Ash has to always be happy-go-lucky and that he can never show any signs of being upset or angry. Serena has this idealisation of Ash, an always happy and positive person. Her admiration of Ash has caused her to see Ash in a light where he is always positive, always energetic, and never upset, sad or angry. As some have put it, she is ‘liking [loving] a shadow’. Serena has feelings for the perfect, ideal version of Ash. After this episode, we don’t know if Serena has fixed her views on him, or if she has continued seeing Ash as this perfect shadow.
Now, note that this particular criticism is quite questionable, and is definitely on shaky ground. Firstly, the line, “You’re not acting like the Ash I know!” is only said in the dub. The sub states something more similar to, “The Ash in front of me isn’t the real Ash!” Serena is more so saying that Ash isn’t Ash at all. Also, we do have to consider that she’s a human child. She doesn’t have endless amounts of patience, so when she can’t get Ash to tell her what’s wrong, it’s not unreasonable for her to snap. Serena started off wanting to help Ash, and she only got mad when Ash started lashing out. Though, the snowball scene and how you interpret it is completely up to you. It’s certainly a questionable scene, but I’m in no place to state whether or not how Serena went about it correctly. Also, remember the whole point of this is that I’m overanalyzing everything! I’m well aware that this is just a classic scene between the main character and the love interest, where the love interest is telling the MC to get a hold of themselves.
Another criticism that has been brought up is whether or not Ash likes Serena back. His response to Serena in different outfits has been mediocre, and can also be interpreted as platonic. During The Kiss™ Ash’s eyes sparkle for a second, before he “completely ignores” anything that has happened (The Kiss™ will be discussed more in the next paragraph). Ash has also had a similar reaction to other romantic gestures Serena has made towards him. Though, this criticism people have brought up is one of the more biased ones.
Now, The Kiss™. Before I say anything, I would prefer to stay well and alive, so no matter how intense of a shipper you are, please stay respectful. I will be trying to state arguments and opinions from both sides. So, The Kiss™. Serena tells Ash while going down the escalator, “Hey, Ash! There’s just one more thing!” She runs back up, and gives him a quick kiss (assumed to be on the lips), before going back down and leaving. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it, so before giving my criticism, let’s discuss the scene itself. Though Ash isn’t blushing, he’s got an extra sparkle/highlight in his eyes during and after the kiss before he blinks. This has been interpreted as him liking Serena back/realising that he likes Serena. It’s a quick, cute scene to wrap up their relationship. After the kiss, he also smiles, possibly implying that he enjoyed the kiss and returned Serena’s feelings. On the other hand, some have said that it doesn’t seem like Serena’s crush is mutual. While Serena moves to kiss him, Ash instead moves his head back, which can be interpreted as him being apprehensive/not wanting to kiss her. Also, it’s unclear whether or not he returned this kiss, or if it was just Serena kissing Ash. His pose has stayed the same, which once again gives us no clue as to whether or not he returned the action. There is no obvious answer to whether or not Serena’s feelings are mutual. This scene is mostly up to your own interpretation and leaves room for shippers to speculate.
Let’s also discuss the subbed version, as the original dialogue is quite different from the dubbed version. We’re going to start a bit earlier. Serena is still at the top of the escalator and says, “I’m really glad that I got to journey!” Followed by, “You are my goal.” Ash looks a bit surprised, though some have also seen it as understanding at the same time. Serena then continues saying, “The next time we meet, I’ll be a more attractive woman for you.” Ash replies with a “Yeah!” Serena heads down the escalator, and Ash takes a few steps forward. Serena turns back, saying, “Ash!” Could I have one last moment?” She runs back up, and kisses Ash, before heading back down. Serena tells Ash, “Thank you!” while heading down, and Ash smiles. He gives Serena a farewell, and that’s how it ends. Now, the Japanese version seems a bit more romantic. Ash stepping forward is sometimes seen as him knowing what is happening. Though, with how dense he is, it is likely this was just him making it easier for himself to say goodbye. Now the line about being a more attractive woman is… questionable in its intentions. First of all, we can’t forget that Serena is 10. She’s sort of implying that she’ll be more attractive so that Ash will like her better (remember, she said that Ash was her goal), which is both problematic for her age and problematic in general. If she thinks that Ash will only like her when she’s more attractive, then there’s definitely something wrong there. She also says that Ash is her goal. Was her goal not to be a Pokemon Performer and pursue her career? Why is Ash stated to be her goal? Isn’t this sort of invalidating or ignoring what her actual goal is? Though, since the whole point of this is I’m overanalyzing everything, I’m trying to look at this from every angle. What she says could’ve been completely innocent. (Remember, the criticisms I gave weren’t necessarily my opinions and were more so a quick summary of different opinions in the Pokeanime community.)
→ Sub Cat. AroAce! Ash Ketchum
How clueless Ash is towards Serena’s feelings have sometimes been interpreted as Ash being aromantic/a-spec. His lack of response to Serena’s actions can easily be seen as him simply not being able to reciprocate her romantic feelings. Though, it’s also likely that Ash is just incredibly, incredibly dense. (I really like AroAce! Ash, so I don’t trust myself to go further in this part of the analysis without starting to sound more biased.)
Gosh, Part 2 was a long one !! I almost gave Serena a whole post for just her ( ̄﹏ ̄;). Once again, (constructive) critism is appreciated!! This’ll hopefully be turned into a video on my channel, so critism is heavily appreciated to ensure I can create the best video possible. As stated before, I haven’t watched all the animes, so please point out any incorrect details you notice. I’m a bit worried that I was too harsh for Serena’s section, so please offer your insight!! Thanks, and Part 3 coming soon! It will have the Alola gang’s analysis... Maybe Goh and Chloe?? Unsure, as I haven’t finished writing theirs yet...

Chapter Five:
The next day rolls around and you’re still angry over the cold shoulder Kaeya had given you. How dare he act like he didn’t even know you, as if you were some stranger. He was the one who initiated the kiss, he was the one who was mad you two were interrupted and now he was ignoring you? Fucking bullshit. You willed yourself out of bed and tried to find something appropriate to wear to the gym. This would be good for you. You get to get  out your anger you felt towards Kaeya and learn some self defense at the same time. You needed self defense more than anything. The night you were attacked was still fresh in your memory and you felt so helpless. You felt weak and you hated that feeling. You were so thankful that Childe had been there, but he wouldn’t be there every time, so you needed this.
You found a pair of black bike shorts and an oversized shirt to throw on, hoping that it was appropriate for the gym. You quickly tossed them on and headed out. Glancing across the street at Kaeya’s shop had you angry all over again. You couldn’t wait to take that anger out on working out, you needed some sort of outlet or you’d explode from all your emotions. The walk to the gym was short, you hadn’t realized how close it was to your flower shop. Itto had said it was a 24 hour gym, which was good to know since you haven’t been sleeping well lately. The minute you entered the gym, Beidou jumped up from behind the desk.
“Y/n! Babe, I had no idea you were coming in today! Itto had mentioned in passing you were coming in for some self defense classes but he didn’t say when!  Did something happen?” She babbled all this while rounding the desk and standing in front of you. She grabbed your hands in hers and gave you a soft look. You could feel the tears welling up behind your eyes, you weren’t used to so many people caring about you. Wiping your eyes before you had a chance to let them fall, you recounted the night to Beidou. You left out how your night ended, wanting to keep that little tidbit to yourself. Once you were done with the story, she wrapped you up into her arms, hugging you tightly and petting your hair. “Oh sweets, I'm so sorry that happened to you. You’re in the right place, Gorou is very good at teaching self defense, so you’re in good hands.”
“Thank you Beidou, I’m still a bit shaken up but I'm so glad to have so many people looking out for me. I really appreciate it.” You said honestly. You didn’t have many friends when you lived in Mondstat, so this was all so new to you. But god, you appreciate everyone’s support immensely. She gave you one last bone crushing hug and then ushered you further into the gym. The gym itself was very earthy, plants all over the place. Everything was made from light wood, panels of vines and plants throughout.  Coming to a stop in front of a door, she opened it and pushed you in.
“Gorou, sweetie! Y/n is here for her self defense lessons!” A young man around your age, turned and greeted both you and Beidou. He wasn’t like Itto, he was slender but still had muscles. He had a very innocent aura about him, like he couldn’t possibly hurt a fly. You wondered how on earth he’d be able to teach you self defense but you trusted Beidou. “Please take care of her!” She nudged you forward and then exited the room, shutting the door behind her. Now it was just you and Gorou. He stood with his arms crossed, his teal eyes sweeping over your body. You felt slightly self conscious, like you were under scrutiny. You heard him mutter something to himself but couldn’t make out what he had said.
Gorou took you in completely and decided he had to have you one way or another. He didn’t normally get involved with his clients but by god, you were cute and seemed so innocent. He may look sweet and innocent but on the inside he hid a feral animal. He wouldn’t force himself on you, no he wasn’t like that. He’d make you want it but only after he actually taught you a thing or two in self defense Itto had given him a heads up that a cute new girl was coming in but god, he wasn’t expecting this.
“Alright! So I’m going to teach you the basics and then we’ll do a run through of all the different ways you can defend yourself. How does that sound?” He asked as he approached you. You simply nodded, swallowing hard as you watched him circle you, as if he was the predator and you were his prey. “Now, there’s two ways your attacker could approach you. Either he’ll come at you from behind or from your front. It’s easier to defend yourself when you can see your attacker. You’ll want a wide stance and your fists up to defend your face. If they’re coming from the front, you’ll want to go for either their eyes or nose. They’re the most sensitive part of the face. If it’s a male, you can also go for the groin with your knee.” You watch him as he continues to pace around you and talk. You listen with the utmost focus, memorizing everything he’s saying to you. “If your attacker comes from behind you, they’ll likely wrap their arms around your upper half. Aim for their feet, stomp your heel as hard as you can. If they have you in a chokehold, you want to move your head to the side to protect your airway. Once you’ve made sure you can still breath, try and get your leg behind theirs to try and trip them back. Do you want to try now?”
You nervously glanced around the room. Hearing him talk about it was one thing but actually trying to defend yourself? That was a scary thought. But you knew you had to, you had to take this head on. You had to learn to defend yourself and keep yourself safe. You nodded once again, unable to find your voice. For some reason Gorou made you nervous. On the outside he seemed harmless and sweet but you knew better. There was a reason he taught self defense classes. He grinned at you and circled you a few times before coming to your front. You braced yourself, widening your stance and throwing your fists in front of your face. You aimed for his nose but he dodged you. You stepped back and aimed again, but this time you tried faking him out. You swung your right fist towards his nose again and while he tried to dodge it, you threw your left fist into the side of his face, just grazing it.
“Yes!! That was so good Y/n! The fake out was exactly what I was going to teach you next.” His grin was so wide and vibrant, you felt butterflies in your stomach. His praise felt so good. You were happy that you were able to impress him, preening at the attention he was giving you. “Alright, now I’m going to come from behind you.” Again he circled you a few more times, your nerves on high alert now. You couldn’t help feeling a bit scared even though you knew he wouldn’t actually hurt you. So lost in your own head, you didn’t hear him come up behind you. One arm was thrown around your midsection, the other wrapped just above your chest. You struggled to break free, trying to stomp on his feet but he just dodged them. You felt heat travel up your neck, realizing how intimate this position was.
“C’mon y/n, you can get out of this.” He whispered into your ear, his hot breath hitting your neck. Oh god, no no no. This could not be turning you on, this was not the time or place. You tried to refocus, placing your leg behind his in an attempt to trip him. He was too quick, moving his leg out of the way. His hold on you tightened a bit and the arm above your chest migrated up to your neck to have you in a choke hold. He barely put pressure on your neck, but it was enough to restrict your breathing. You gulped hard, all your nerve endings were on fire. You could feel sweat rolling down the side of your neck and your panties dampening. Oh god, this was so embarrassing. You prayed he couldn’t tell how turned on you were, the last thing you needed was to be kicked out of a gym. Gorou’s arm around your throat moved slightly so now his hand grasped your neck, turning your head slightly towards his. “Oh? Don’t tell me this is turning you on, is it?” Before you could even answer or spout apologies, you felt his body press closer and something hard poking your lower back. A small moan escaped your throat and you closed your eyes in embarrassment. Suddenly the door to the room open and in strolled Itto. It didn’t even seem like he was aware of your compromising position
“Hey guys! How’s the- Now what do we have here?” He seemed to clue in on what was going on and his grin quickly morphed into a smirk as he approached the two of you. You could feel the heat radiating off of your face, shame and embarrassment flooded your cheeks. You closed your eyes again, Gorou making no movement to let you go, only pressing his cock harder into you. Your eyes flew open as you felt a presence in front of you. Itto was massive in comparison to you, towering over you and all hardened muscle. His eyes devoured your flushed face and heaving chest. He raised a hand to your face and gently tilted your head up to look him in the eyes. Pure lust, that’s all you saw. “Tell us right now you don’t want this and we’ll both back off.” He said sternly, taking this very seriously. He wouldn’t do anything to you you didn’t want.
“I want this.” You replied confidently, even though you felt your voice shake from nerves. You felt slightly guilty since you did just hook up with Childe recently but it wasn’t like you two were exclusive. And Kaeya had made it perfectly clear he wanted nothing to do with you. You were free to do whatever you wanted, and right now you wanted both of these men. Itto’s smirk widened as you gave the two of them your consent. Oh, he had so many plans for you. Pushing his body closer, so you were now tightly sandwiched between the two of them, he captured your lips in a bruising kiss. Gorou started to slowly grind his hard cock into you, leaving sloppy kisses along your neck. You were overwhelmed by the two of them, your body giving up control to them. Itto continued to roughly make out with you, nipping at your lower lip, licking into your mouth. Everything about him was messy, the way he kissed, the way he roughly grabbed at your body,
“We should get you out of these clothes” Gorou spoke up behind you, his hands now rubbing along the top of your shorts, dipping his fingers in every now and then. Itto pulled back, a string of spit still connecting the two of you. His eyes were blown wide with lust, as he took in your disheveled look. His hands cupped your breasts through your oversized shirt and then made their way down to the bottom, tugging it up and over your head. Gorou made quick work of your shorts, leaving you in your tiny little thong and sports bra. Itto took a step back and grasped his gardening length, groaning as he stroked it through his shorts. You could feel your slick soaking your panties, getting more and more turned on by the second. Gorou also took a step back, taking in your shapely ass and thighs. You felt slightly self conscious standing in front of these two men, both with healthy bodies and you with your rolls and pudge. As if Itto could read your mind, he stepped back towards you, fingers now playing with the strap of your sports bra.
“Your body is fucking magnificent. I’m going to get onto my knees and worship this fucking body.” And that’s exactly what he did. He dropped to his knees and trailed his hands up your thighs, fingers dipping under the strings of your thong and slowly dragging it down your legs. Your cunt was now on full display, your essence soaking the inside of your thighs. Itto’s face moved forward, tongue licking and sucking on your thighs. You jolted slightly as you felt Gorou behind you now. His hands slipped in front of you, grabbing the bottom of your sports bra and slowly dragging it up your body, watching over your shoulder as your breast spilled out of it. He groaned as they bounced slightly, rutting his cock against you. He tossed it aside and brought one hand up to your mouth, slowly pushing three fingers into your mouth.
“Suck. Get them nice and messy for me.” He demanded, pressing his fingers down on your tongue. You sucked and swirled your tongue around his fingers, coating them in your spit. When he was satisfied he pulled them from your mouth and you felt him press one against the tight ring of your asshole. It was an unfamiliar feeling but certainly not unwelcome. You gasped as Itto started to give your clit small kitten licks, forgetting he was there and too distracted by Gorou. You grasped Itto’s hair, trying to steady yourself as he parted your lips with his tongue, dipping into your aching hole. You were far past trying to control your volume and let the moans and whines flow out of you. Your grip tightened as Gorou pushed a finger into your asshole, the sensation sending a tingle down your spine. He slowly fucked his finger into you all the while Itto ate you out. The pleasure was becoming too much, your moans growing louder as they pushed you closer to the edge. Your grip on Itto’s hair never loosened, this was the only way you weren’t toppling over. Gorou slowly eased a second finger into you, pain now mixed with pleasure bloomed through your lower half. Itto sucked hard on your clit, sending you over the edge. You gasped for air as your orgasm ripped through you, neither males letting up.
“I think she has another one in her, don't you?” Gorou asked, peering down at Itto over your shoulder. Itto groaned at the question and continued to lap at your cunt, opting to continue instead of answering. You couldn’t find your voice to object, instead you whined at how sensitive you felt. “Good girl.” Gorou whispered in your ear, slowly easing a third finger. Tears of pleasure and pain rolled down your cheeks as your second orgasm approached a lot faster than the thirst. The pain was slowly leaving your body, the pleasure all consuming. “God, this asshole is so fucking tight. I can’t wait to fuck it.” You moaned in response, eyes gazing down at Itto, who now had three fingers stuffed into your cunt, his tongue swirling around your clit. You choked on an obscene moan as you came for a second time, vision going white and your eyes rolling back. Gorou wrapped an arm around your waist to keep you upright as he slowly removed his fingers from you. Itto held your plush thighs tight as he pulled back from your pussy, grinning up at you with slick covering the bottom half of his face.
“You ready for us both, princess?” He asked as he stood up. Gorou stepped back behind you and quickly lowered his shorts enough to free his achingly hard cock. Instead of waiting for your reply, Itto grabbed your hand and led you over the side of the room. He lowered his body to the floor and then patted his lap, his cock standing proud and waiting. You visibly gulped at the sheer size and girth, unsure how you’d even be able to fit it all inside of you. Gorou placed a gentle hand on your lower back and ushered you forward. Fumbling a bit, you placed both hands on Itto’s shoulders, his hands firmly grasping your hips. He helps you lower yourself down until your cunt is hovering over top of him. Sensing your unease, one of his hands comes up under your chin, tilting your head up to meet his gaze. “Don’t worry, I prepped you enough that it’ll fit.” He said with a sly grin. All you could do was nod.
You felt Gorou’s presence behind you but opted to ignore it right now as you slowly lowered yourself onto Itto’s lap. You moaned as his tip bullied it’s way into your sopping cunt. He slid on with ease, your pussy accommodating to his large size. The stretch burned but very quickly turned into pleasure as you took him in, inch by inch. When you finally had him to the hilt, he paused and let you adjust.
“Gorou, cmere” Itto crooked a finger, motioning for him to come over to his side. Obediently, he walked to Ittos side, Itto’s face level with his cock. A whine escaped his throat as Itto took his cock in one of his hands, stroking it slowly, smearing pre down the length of it. He bent forward a bit and spit on the tip, coating it. “There, this will have to do since we don’t have lube.” He said as he grinned up at the younger man. That hasn’t even crossed your mind, already too fucked out to think properly. Gorou gave himself a few slow strokes and made his way behind you again. He was now firmly pressed against your back, his cock prodding at your asshole. You had no idea how it would feel to be completely stuffed but you were too far gone to care. Itto grasped the back of your head and pulled you forward into a messy kiss, trying his best to distract you. Tears of pain and pleasure rolled down your cheeks as Gorou entered you from behind. You felt stuffed to the brim, it felt like it was too much.
“Oh fuck, you’re squeezing my cock so much.” Itto gritted out, his hold on your hips bruisingly tight now. Your head dropped back onto Gorou’s shoulder as you cried out, the pleasure overwhelming you now. Both men were now fully inside of you, waiting for you to adjust. You didn’t think it was possible to be so stuffed full.
“Please…please someone move.” You whined out, desperate for some sort of stimulation. Almost as if on cue, Itto starts a brutal pace of fucking up into your cunt, Gorou setting a slow pace, not wanting to overwhelm you. You feel like you’re being split in half, the burning ache in your lower stomach steadily increasing as your third orgasm approaches.
“Fuck baby, you’re taking us so well” Itto groaned out, pulling your head forward, lips meeting in a messy kiss. Gorou began to speed up, kissing and biting along your back and shoulders. The grip he had on your hips was bruising but you were too distracted by Itto’s tongue in your mouth. One of his fingers made its way down to your clit, roughly pressing into it. You gasped into his mouth, more tears rolling down your cheeks. It all felt like it was too much, the pleasure was all consuming now, the pain completely gone. “Oh fuck, you’re gunna cum soon aren’t you? I can feel your cunt choking the life outta my cock baby” You babbled a reply, not even sure if it was coherent or not.
Gorou’s mouth latched onto your neck, his whines more frequent now. His pace started to pick up as he chased his high. Itto’s finger started to pick up speed, just enough to push you over the edge. His hand came up to clamp over your mouth as you threw your head back, almost screaming in pleasure. Your orgasm hit you like a freight train, the overstimulation almost becoming too much.
“Fuck fuck fuck fuck” Gorou whined into your neck as you felt the spurt of his hot cum shooting inside of you. He stilled inside you as Itto picked up his rough pace even more. Itto grasped your hair, pulling it roughly as his own cum painted your insides, both holes now stuffed full. The three of you stilled, trying to catch your breath. Your whole body felt like it was on fire, the pleasure you had felt from them overwhelming you. Gorou slowly pulled out of you, watching in awe as his cum seeped out of you. He leant forward a bit, hands on your ass cheeks, pulling them apart. His tongue lapped at your asshole, pushing the cum back inside of you. Underneath you, Itto watched the both of you, taking in your fucked out expression and Gorou lapping at you.
“S’too much! too much!” You said as you tried pushing Gorou away. Itto pulled out but immediately replaced his cock with his fingers, pushing his cum back inside of you. Once they were both satisfied, they helped you up and steadied you. You legs felt weak and wobbly, you felt empty now. Gorou retrieved your clothes and helped you redress, Itto on the other side helping you stay up right.
“You did so good for us, Y/n. I definitely think you’ve learned some proper self defense techniques, amongst other things.” Gorou praised you as he helped you put your shirt back on. You preened under his attention, feeling good about yourself. Despite what had just happened, you did learn some good self defense moves and you felt like you could defend yourself a bit more properly now.
“Thank you, I really appreciate everything” You replied, a blush forming on your cheeks and nose. You’d never been like this before, so open about your sexuality and having casual hookups but it made you feel powerful. Once fully dressed, they walked you to the gym entrance, telling you to come again and get home safe. You were glad Beidou wasn’t at her post, not wanting her to see you like this and make assumptions. You weren’t entirely sure how you looked but it was better not to risk it. You waved at the pair of men and made your way back home, the day's activities running through your mind again. Had you really just done that? Guilt crept into your mind, thinking back to Childe and Alhaitham. You knew you did nothing wrong, but it still felt like you had. No, you were young and full of life, you were allowed to mess around with other people, no strings attached. You glanced over at Kaeya’s shop as you reached your home. The anger had dissipated and now you just felt hurt, not sure why he was letting a simple mistake ruin your friendship like this. Shaking your head, you unlocked your door and headed inside. Your muscles ached from everything you’d been put through today, so you headed to the ensuite of your bedroom and drew yourself a bath. You stripped yourself in the mirror, gazing at some of the marks the men had left on you. You winced as you pressed down on a growing bruise that was forming on your thigh. Shaking your head, you made your way over to the counter and grabbed some epsom salts from under the sink. You added it to your bath and slowly lowered yourself in. You felt the aches slowly leave your body and you let out a relieved sigh. Leaning back, you shut your eyes and mentally went over all that would need to be done to get your shop ready for the grand opening next week. It felt like there was so much more to be done but you were so excited. This had been such a dream of yours and you couldn't believe it was finally coming true. You felt like the pieces of your life were finally falling into place, you were truly becoming the person you’d always wanted to be. Maybe this was the town you could finally plant your roots and bloom.

Hmm how about submas twins with a s/o that wanted to be a gym leader but gave up on the dream? Maybe they left the region to study and train but came back to Unova with no plans for their future? What do the brothers do with this information? 👉👈 I've been working on an oc that wanted to be a fairy type gym leader for a long time. Like in high school she had a notebook with different strategies and designs for an outfit she would wear. She thought maybe pursuing her dream would make her happy. Unfortunately depression doesn't work that way and things never got better, she ended up returning home so she can live with her family (and get some therapy but she doesn't know that yet. I'm the writer and I say someone is going to drag her to therapy)
I just wanted to see how you think this sort of scenario would play out.
-Honey 🐝
you got it, honey! this one is for you and your cute oc <3 but fair warning, i don't have depression myself, so if anything looks not correct, please let me know and i'll fix it!
🍓🍓🍓
Ingo:
Ingo doesn't discover about your past until a little whiles into your relation. You're spending the night with him before one of his days off, and your late night pillow talk has taken a turn towards your past. You're obviously a little uncomfortable talking about it, but you slowly tell Ingo of your dreams from before you met him
You had wanted to be a fairy-type gym leader, it was your long term dream, but your depression was taking its tole, so you returned here to get better. Ingo is quiet throughout your explanation, but murmurs that he's proud of you for making such a hard decision. He can't imagine it was easy, giving up your dream to help with your mental health, but you did it. And you're very strong and brave in his eyes
If you show him the notebooks you made, he praises them endlessly. He keeps the pictures in mind, and wonders about having one of the designers Elesa works for make you a copy of the uniform you designed. Would you like that, as a gift?
Should you get therapy, and start understanding yourself and your needs better, Ingo might suggest trying again. It's never to late to follow your dreams, and if you think it won't undo the progress you've made, he's willing to support you towards your goals. He trusts your judgement on the matter, but he doesn't want you to feel like that chapter of your life is forever closed. He loves you too much to watch you entirely give up on something your so passionate about
Emmet:
Emmet discovers your notebooks as you're moving boxes into your new apartment. He sees the outfits you designed, admires the strategies you had planned out, and immediately bombards you with questions about the notebook when you return into the room with him. You're very embarrassed, but give him a brief explanation of what the notebook in, but that only spurs more questions
So you sit Emmet down on the couch and tell him about the journey you made fresh out of high school, in pursuit of your dream to be a fairy-type gym leader. Emmet is excited to hear about this dream, but then you continue and tell him about the tole the journey took on your mental health, so you returned to take care of yourself and get a handle on your depression instead of becoming a gym leader.
Emmet is sad to hear you gave up your dream, but he's glad to hear that you're taking care of yourself more now. He wants to support you through everything, and he wants to help you be happy, so he takes a very heavy interest in fairy types and the fairy type gym leaders. He thinks Unova could use a fairy type leader, if you're interested
Should you be willing to give it a shot, Emmet is helping you do any and everything you need to do to get this official. He's pulling strings, he's advocating before city officials, he's putting up flyers and posters about the wanting for a new fairy gym around the subway. There's quite a bit of interest and support for the idea, so you two actually get the idea off the ground. Emmet is beside you every step of the way, hanging onto your hand as he makes you promise to battle him with your best strategies once all is said and done
🍓🍓🍓
they'd be very supportive of you giving it another shot! after all, if at first you don't succeed, try try again! they believe that wholeheartedly, especially when it comes to you and your happiness <3

soooo at what point in the game did you start thinking, "yeah these two are in love" c:
((yes it's me again. i'll keep spamming you with asks because ive been alone for FAR. TOO. LONG. write that fic. i will be waiting))
No problem, feel free to send me as many questions as you'd like (o´∀`o)
Honestly, I didn't think that at any point in the game. To me, Colress reads as aromantic and single-minded in achieving his goals, and Mei is too busy with the Gym challenge and trying to take down Neo Team Plasma to be falling in love. That being said, the building blocks are there — Colress recognises the player's singular potential, focuses on them out of all the Trainers he's met and battled with, and is supportive of them all throughout their journey. I imagine Mei feels shocked and a little betrayed when she sees Colress at the helm of the Plasma Frigate! She wouldn't have believed someone who had been so kind and encouraging to her was capable of freezing over Opelucid City (and I don't care what the game/manga say, that Kyurem beam definitely killed some people).
It's this tension between Colress coming to care specifically for the player and not caring about what happens to anyone else that fuels my interest in these two. In particular, in the postgame... the fact that he's a little pouty if you refuse to battle him cracks me up, lol. This line post-defeat really sells it for me:
"The things you and your Pokémon have seen and felt… Do they belong to you and you alone? If you would, please have another Pokémon battle with me. By facing you, I feel as if I can see what I should do from now on."
He's really, really trying to understand this "bonds" thing, but Colress's... everything... gets in the way of that. There's no evidence to suggest he's unkind to his own Pokémon, but it's also hard to believe he has the closest relationship with them even if he says he wants the best method to be "the trust between Trainers and their Pokémon, just as it has always been." Still, his strength as a Trainer implies that trust and respect for his Pokémon at least factor into his method of raising them, and I feel like the player would eventually come to understand this. In my interpretation, it's Mei who develops feelings for Colress, largely based on the fact that he's an unremitting source of positivity and confidence in her life. He believes in her. He'll cheer her on in anything. He wants to understand her love for her Pokémon and is slowly beginning to understand it's not something that can be quantified by numbers. It's not too large a step from there to imagine that he'd begin to question what love means, and Mei — who has spent all this time battling him, getting to know him, realising that his values are less evil than naïve — wants to help him find his answer.
By the way, Masters isn't helping.

Psssst...given that pokeani has gone completely off the rails, how abt dropping that big rant abt the "Ash assistant coach in Galar battle league" au you shall never write? It's been living rent-free in my head ever since you mentioned it bc I love mentor Ash and I bet you'd do more justice to Galar in bullet points than pokeani did in its whole journeys run :3c
Oh, be careful what you ask for... I have pages of bullet points and half a page of prologue.
For those of you who don't know (or remember a side-comment I wrote in an author's note three years ago - seriously, my dude, wow), at the start of Journeys/end of Alola, I came up with an AU to carry on Ash's story. But it was an idea for a series, not a story, so it sits in my documents untouched.
So the basic deal is this: Galar has a different kind of league to the rest of the Pokemon world. In Galar, trainers compete as teams, rather than individual trainers. Each team does have a captain – the one who is supposed to be the best, and ultimately becomes champion – but it becomes clear over the series that the greatest trainers in Galar are the ones with the best support teams.
The advantage to having a team, instead of just working alone, is that you can have a lot more pokemon on a 'regular' team. And they belong to the group, not just the captain. This allows more flexibility, but as Ash points out to the team, it also means you can’t form as close a bond as more traditional trainers would. (This is potentially the reason why Pikachu can gigantamax safely without a dynamax band - because they have such a close bond)
The team we follow in this series is Team Eight - the eighth team for this year's league.
It's quite a large team, made up of seven team members in total:
The Captain, Victor. Our player character, and essentially the Gary of the series. He’s a natural when it comes to pokemon battle, charming and likeable, but confident to the point of being arrogant. His character arc is learning that natural talent won’t get him by forever, and he needs his team to make it to the top. (Friendship hooray!)
Active Trainer Hop. The current champion’s little brother, Hop was supposed to have so much promise. He was great with pokemon as a kid—they all love him—and Leon had so much faith in his baby brother. But on the battlefield, Hop is average at best. He’s nowhere near Victor’s talent, let alone as amazing as everyone expected. His character arc is learning not to stand in others’ shadows, and to believe in his own quieter power.
Active Trainer Gloria. Our female player character, and a very loud, slightly violent young woman. She’s actually the strongest battler of the team, but is also incredibly lazy when it comes to training. She’s not that interested in the league, mostly using the challenge as a chance to see and explore the world. Throughout the journey, she becomes a protector, often standing with Ash while Victor and Hop run off to gather artefacts or whatever, and discovers her true passion is as a bodyguard and organiser.
Groomer Goh. A blatant attempt to reengage children with Pokemon Go, Goh’s passion is collecting pokemon for the team to use. His goal is to catch one of every kind of pokemon, so that no matter the situation, he will always have the right ‘tool’ to hand. When his pokemon aren’t being used by active trainers, he farms them out to gyms and jobs, earning cash for the team. His arc is learning that pokemon are friends, not tools. (Pet safety, hooray!)
Medic Chloe. Originally just tagging along with Goh because someone needs to keep her childhood friend in line, Chloe discovers a love of cooking and medicine, discovering that she enjoys watching pokemon grow and become stronger.
Coach Kiran. A Dark-Type Trainer with a bad attitude, but a heart of gold. He’s normally a field agent of Chairman Rose’s security division, and it’s a requirement that all agents do at least one season of coaching duty as a kind of community service. He hates it. He brought Ash on to essentially do his job for him, but since Ash doesn’t really know how Galar works, he still has to lead the way and provide exposition. His arc is learning the limits of how far he’s willing to go to protect ‘the good of all’, and that kids aren’t that bad, really.
Assistant Coach Ash. He signed on because he wanted to see Galar, and learn about the different league, but he’s actually really enjoying helping Team Eight discover who they want to be. He battles with the active trainers, accompanies the support team on their trips, and generally enables their journeys. He forms bonds with some of Goh’s pokemon, who eventually become known as 'his' pokemon despite the fact they belong to the team.
Team Eight were supposed to be the real up and comers, but Hop’s lack of skill in a very public moment made them seem very unimpressive, and now no one really expects anything of them. Of course, they work their way up through the ranks, meeting rivals and defeating gym battles, until Victor can eventually challenge Leon.
The idea was that it was going to retain Sun and Moon's group dynamic, fade Ash out of the spotlight while maintaining his status and strength, and make a bit more out of Galar's story. Also play with Leon's relationship with Hop because you know I'm a sucker for family relationships.
But yeah. I'll leave it there for now. Hope it didn't disappoint!

➥ chapter 5: Embracing the Hero Within
Tumblr media
The weight of the secret had burdened me for far too long. It was time to reveal my true identity to my family—to let them in on the extraordinary world I had become a part of. Nervously, I gathered my loved ones in the living room, my heart pounding with anticipation.
"Guys, I have something important to tell you," I began, my voice trembling ever so slightly. Their eyes locked on mine, filled with curiosity and concern. I took a deep breath and continued, "I am Spider Li. I have these incredible powers, and I've been using them to protect the city as a superhero."
Silence filled the room as my words hung in the air. I braced myself for their reactions, uncertain of how they would receive this revelation. Then, to my surprise, my father's face lit up with excitement.
"You're Spider Li?" he exclaimed, a broad smile spreading across his face. "That's incredible! I'm raising a superhero!"
Before I could react, my father swooped me up, slinging me over his shoulder in a playful gesture of celebration. Laughter erupted throughout the room as my younger siblings cheered and clapped their hands. Their eyes sparkled with awe and admiration, their innocence untouched by the complexities of the world.
My mother's eyes glistened with pride as she approached us, placing a gentle hand on my father's arm. "Our child, a superhero," she whispered, her voice filled with a mix of tenderness and amazement. "We've always known you were destined for greatness."
The warmth of their acceptance washed over me, dispelling any lingering doubts. In that moment, I realized that my family saw beyond the mask and the powers. They recognized the heroism within me, the desire to make a positive impact on the world.
My younger siblings gathered around, their faces alight with excitement. "Show us your powers, Spider Li!" they exclaimed, their voices filled with eagerness. I couldn't help but be amused by their enthusiasm, and a mischievous grin spread across my face.
"Alright, gather 'round, everyone," I said, my voice filled with excitement. "Prepare to witness the amazing abilities of Spider Li!"
With a flick of my wrist, I shot webs across the room, weaving intricate patterns that captivated the attention of my siblings. They clapped and cheered, their eyes wide with wonder. I swung through the air, executing acrobatic flips and spins, much to their delight. It was a performance filled with joy and exhilaration, a testament to the newfound bond between us.
As the cheers subsided, my family enveloped me in a tight embrace. Their love and support provided me with the strength to continue my journey as Spider Li, to face the challenges that lay ahead. It was a reassurance that I wasn't alone, that I had a team of heroes behind me—my family.
In the days and weeks that followed, my family became my biggest allies. They provided a safe space for me to discuss my adventures, to share the victories and the hardships. Their unwavering support fueled my determination to protect the city, to make a difference in the lives of those around me.
My siblings became my biggest fans, eagerly awaiting stories of my exploits and cheering me on with unbridled enthusiasm. They wanted to be part of my world, to witness the extraordinary firsthand. Together, we embarked on adventures within the confines of our own home, reimagining the city streets as the backdrop for our superhero tales.
My parents, too, played an integral role in my journey. They nurtured my sense of responsibility, reminding me of the importance of using my powers for good. They instilled in me the values of compassion and justice, reinforcing that true heroism lay not only in extraordinary abilities but also in acts of kindness and empathy.
In the eyes of my family, I was more than just Spider Li. I was their daughter, their sister—a beacon of hope and inspiration. They celebrated my successes and comforted me during moments of doubt. With their unwavering support, I continued to grow, both as a superhero and as an individual.
As I look back on that pivotal moment when I revealed my secret to my family, I am filled with gratitude. Their acceptance and encouragement have shaped my journey, providing me with the strength to face adversity and the confidence to embrace my true self.
Every day, as Spider Li, I strive to make a difference, to protect the innocent and uphold justice. And with my family by my side, cheering me on every step of the way, I know that I am never alone.
Together, we weave a tapestry of love, courage, and resilience—a testament to the power of family and the transformative potential of embracing the hero within.

So we’ve come down to it: Ash’s battle against Leon that’s been hyped for most of the Journeys series. Let’s hope that it meets with the expectations the show-runners set.
Off the bat, I was worried that, with Goh away in Hoenn for his Mew excursion, we might end up seeing the battle episodes broken up piece by piece with cutaways to Goh’s adventure.
While I certainly admire Goh’s own story and his efforts to fulfill his found quest, I’m glad that this episode, at least this first one, wasn’t divided between the two ventures. I think the two each deserve their own episodes to shine in for the culmination of their respective stories.
Now, the big question...
Is the fact that Dawn is the only one of Ash’s past companions to come in person to his finals match a pearlshipping hint? If not that, then the direct mention and reference to how they cheered the exact same way for Ash in Sinnoh, Piplup cheerleading and all, definitely feels like it.
Ok... that might not be the big question on the tip of everyone’s tongue, but that was my immediate thought when she showed up and we didn’t get even cameos from the other companions (aside from the lab crew, we love you guys).
I know... it’s probably a voice actor issue more than anything, but I’m hoping we at least get some brief cutaways to Ash’s former travelling companions watching him in the next few episodes. We did get some cuts to his former competitors, which is a nice touch at least.
One interesting bit we did get on Leon’s side of the flashback train was him battling against someone who can be reasonably assumed to be a young Sonia. To that, I can only say: give us the adorable face of our precious young professor please!
Oh hey, present-day Sonia showed up to support her former rival too! That’s cute, I guess. I don’t really ship that ship to be honest, but I like the context she’ll be able to offer on Leon throughout the battle. And, frankly, the more Sonia in the anime, the better!
And hey, more breadcrumbs for us phaesporiashippers in how Diantha and Cynthia have a goddamn private booth to watch the match from. I won’t lie, I actually made a stupid giggle-like sound when I saw it. Sadly, aside from brief commentary between the two on the match, we don’t get to see much more of them.
With the pre-match banter can an interesting wrinkle: Leon said that he’ll let Ash use all the tricks in his arsenal: z-moves, mega evolution, and dynamax/gigantamax.
On one hand, cool that we get to see a return of all the empowered forms that Ash has worked hard to master.
On the other hand... eh... it has me thinking about two things:
1) It’ll be hard for me, the audience, and maybe the in-universe community to take Ash’s potential victory in this match seriously if he has a leg up over Leon.
2) Ugh... really Leon? Are you so cocksure of yourself that you’re willing to do that to yet again demonstrate how badass you are as the invincible champion? Good grief... I know you said it was for the excitement of the challenge, but me - biased as I am - cannot take that claim seriously with how you’ve been written and hyped up over the series.
But either way, Ash accepted it, and while I was thinking it might’ve been out of character for him to accept a handicap like this, I did recall he got to use a larger team versus Roxie’s three in their gym battle back in Best Wishes. I suppose he’s willing to indulge opponents’ whims as long as he feels it’s still somehow a fair match.
The match started off in earnest with Cinderace vs. Pikachu. Leon made a comment on how Ash wasn’t invested in strategy, and it showed true in how Ash’s inexperience was unveiled in dealing with Cinderace’s libero ability changing its type to ground. I do like that, already, the arrangement that Ash agreed to is being offset by his lack of knowledge compared to Leon’s. Credit where credit is due, Leon.
After recalls by both competitors, we continued the match with Gengar vs. Inteleon. Funnily, Ash mirrored my thoughts in how it felt like he was battling Goh’s pokemon. Then again, when Pokemon puts so much focus on its starter mons and their evolutions, it’s inevitable that we’d see them appearing quite a bit. I’m sure we’ll see Rillaboom later too.
The next twist of the match came in how Leon’s Inteleon mimicked Ash’s countershield from his match with Cynthia. I feel like Ash shouldn’t have been surprised. As I said in my review of Ash vs. Cynthia, it’s not hard for a competent opponent to steal and use the technique. It happened with Ash vs. Fantina and again with Ash vs. Paul.
That said, the display was impressive, but Ash managed to break through it with a will-o-the-wisp that turned it all to steam. I was hoping Ash would take greater advantage of that fog with Gengar’s ghostly movements, but instead, he opted for a gigantamax. We’re already seeing Ash use one of his now three major enhancements, and I’m wondering if it was the right call at this point.
Leon got to play cheeky in response, having Inteleon use not one, but two hands for their Snipe Shot and Dark Pulse moves, something that seems goofy but I actually found halfway amusing. The line Hop dropped about “Big Bro’s Inteleon can dual wield” had me choking back a laugh for how “gamer” that statement sounded.
After some impressive acrobatics (not the move, just literal flips and whatnot) from Inteleon, we saw both competitors landing some crucial hits, with Gengar burning through its three turns (after two moves, but they wrote it off to Gengar getting hit in a sensitive spot at the back of its mouth, causing it to lose the gigantamax early; I’m... not sure how to feel about that...) but scoring a knockout hit on Inteleon.
Up next was Leon’s Mr. Rime while Gengar continued in the match. Ash managed to turn the whole “ability trap” back on Leon, a nice way to bookend this part of the match for the episode, by having Gengar’s Cursed Body ability disable Mr. Rime’s Freeze Dry attack. However, it came at the cost of freezing Gengar solid and encrusting the field in ice. Worse, it led to a KO on Gengar, leaving each competitor with one knocked-out pokemon.
So far, this is an interesting start. If the episodes continue to focus on the match (sorry Goh, please wait your turn) and the battles continue to exude interesting uses of abilities and moves like this, I think I could find myself enjoying this match, despite my disposition towards Leon. The preview seems to show some interesting antics ahead. It looks like Dracovish enjoys eating baby dragon-ghosts.
Regardless of all that, I just hope we get to see more of Ash’s old friends hyped for his match and at least watching, if not actually saying something. I guess I’ll have to hold onto that hope until next week. At least, for now, we have pearlshipping.
