Don’t think about malnourished baby Sammy. Don’t think about little four year old Dean begging his Dad to buy formula instead of ammunition, of four year old Dean burning himself trying to warm up Sammy’s milk. Don’t think about Dean waking up every couple hours after crawling into Sammy’s crib to make sure he was still breathing. Don’t think of little four year old Dean who used to beg to feed his little brother his bottle, now not having another option. Don’t think about baby Sammy getting sick and Dean begging John to make him a doctors appointment to make sure he’s okay. Don’t think of baby Sammy learning to walk with his older brother holding his hands, of baby Sammy crying when he sees John because he doesn’t recognize his own dad. Don’t think of baby Sammy calling Dean dad, or the fact that Sam’s first steps were towards Dean. Don’t think about the fact that the doctors were worried about Sam’s weight at that doctors appointment, and ever since, Dean has made sure that Sammy always had enough to eat, even at the cost to his own health.

Don’t think about twelve year old Dean collapsing on the first night of a hunt because he hadn’t eaten in four or five days, because Sammy needed the food. Don’t think about John yelling at Dean asking what the hell is wrong with him etc. and Dean just shrugs it off. Because he’s fine. And he ignores it. He shoves the aching for food way down and ignores it. So, when they go back into town because they hit a dead end, and get food at a diner, Dean gorges on the food, and eats half of John’s too. Don’t think about John seeing this, having a flash of worry but ignoring it because “it’s Dean he’s always fine.” Don’t think about Dean worrying the first time Sammy called him Dad because “no, no, no, Sammy, I’m your big brother Dean.” Because he’s worried that his Dad is going to freak out if he hears Sammy calling Dean dad.

Don’t think about the fact that Sam probably didn’t learn the word Mom until he was at school because it wasn’t something his dad and Dean said. Don’t think about Sam driving alone for the first time and hitting a dear and calling Dean because he didn’t trust that his dad would answer. Don’t think about Dean, sitting in some motel at 23 years old after a fight with his dad who stormed off debating calling Sam because he’s the only one who would get it.

Don’t think about the Winchester brothers as little kids left alone in motel rooms for too long, underfed, and unsure of when their Dad was going to be back.

so Bobby's father was an abusive shithead, a violent drunk, right? And Bobby decides not to have kids because he ruins everything he touches and there's no use passing on the cycle. And then he meets John Winchester. And occasionally, John gets Bobby to watch his 11 year old son Dean, and his 7 year old, Sammy. Sure, fine, whatever. That's cool. But then, Bobby finds out exactly what John is like when he's drunk (Dean didn't mean to tell him, it fell out from gritted teeth and held back tears, as he tried not to breath too deeply, lest he cause more pain in his ribs) and by God, does he go mad. Fuck "not passing on the cycle," these boys are his now and he's gonna damn well protect them.

dean, sam, and cas as dogs?

All y’all saying German Sheperd, Great Dane, and black Lab, are partially incorrect. And as someone who has been raised by dogs (practically) I think I know a few things…

Dean is definitely a German Shepherd. End of discussion. (I love how we all collectively agree on this.)

I mean it makes sense because of Dean’s Dog Day Afternoon with Colonel, the German Shepherd.

He also looks like those ‘German Shepherd boy aesthetic’ thingys.

These dogs also tend to be extremely overprotective of their family, along with being self-assured. Sounds familiar huh?

They’re also working dogs, and normally the frontline for police/military, and search and rescue.

Also, did you know they’re listed as the third most dangerous dog type, with most hospitalized dog bites being from the German Shepherds? (Somebody bring back the one episode where everyone is like “you have to kill him, he’s the Dean Winchester.” Insinuating that this man is very dangerous)

Also, bite=bark.

They can also be very goofy and playful with those they know, but a bit abrasive to strangers.

Personally I see Sam as an Irish Wolfhound, or and Irish Setter.

Obviously we have two choices here, but I’d like to mention these are both hunting dogs.

Wolfhounds are more commonly known for their large size, but not quite at Great Dane level yet. Plus, they’re muscular enough to catch, and kill a wolf.

Wolfhounds are smart, and prefer to be independent, however, they can be exceptional guardians when it comes to family.

Their also overly friendly to strangers, unless there’s a direct threat to their family, and are normally known to follow leaders.

On the other side of the coin, Setters are a very active dog breed, plus, do me a favor and look at the hair. (Flawless and long?)

They’re commonly seen as therapy dogs, and have a tendency to ‘play deaf’. Otherwise they are very intelligent, and can be destructive if left alone to their own devices. (No Sam I’m never letting the whole ‘I drank demon blood while my brother was dead for four months’ thing go.)

And Cas is either a Shiba Inu or Saint Bernard.

Shibas are stubborn, strong willed hunting dogs.

They are also very affectionate and can pick up on some undesirable behaviors. Aka, the Shiba scream.

I honestly don’t have a whole lot of backing behind this theory, but it just gives the vibes~

Saint Bernards (I LOVE THESE DOGS) are gentle giants bred for rescues in the Swiss Alps.

Now, their mostly patient, calm dogs. They have a large bark which is good for discouraging intruders, and can be trained for tracking and search and rescue.

PLUS HAVE YOU SEEN THE EYES? Tell me Cas does not make that face? The confused, huh?, face???

do you ever think about how maybe for the first days or weeks maybe even months after Sam left for college, he felt really lost and out of place?

like he finally has the life he wanted, but it's just not what he knows. living a normal life with a more or less permanent home, a stable day to day routine, probably a healthier sleeping schedule, and actual friends, but most importantly, no older brother taking care of him, telling him what to do or giving him advice.

and he would obviously miss dean but maybe he would even question if it was the right decision to leave because he's lost and for the first time in his life there is no one telling him the way because that was deans job but deans not there.

and then he finds the way on his own, learns to take care of himself, and he starts to love his home and his day to day routine and he starts to need his sleep and he needs his friends.

what he doesn't need anymore is his brother.
