PLUS the way i gasped when jay said he wanted to punch sunghoon....in front of sungjin. ok i kinda knew it won't end badly ( i could be wrong but jay wouldnt fuck up that easily i trust him. ) it was all so fun and games we have hoonyn back as friends, hee hoon r almost okay as well AND THEN YUNA? I THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH HER? look i dont blame her for being the way she is since it mostly roots back to his parents but she's making it everyone's problem rn :/ IT'S SO ANNOYING LIKE I SAW YUNA'S PIC ON THE TL TODAY AND I WAS LIKE 'GIRLLLLL WHY R U DOING THIS' THIS SMAU IS EATING MY BRAIN 😭😭😭😭😭

BUT YES UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS THE IMPENDING ANGST but i am a firm believer in happy endings don't worry
nah seriously enough with "where do you see yourself in 5 years" i'd like to be asked how i see myself as a tree. also i think i'd probably like to be a bonsai tree just so i can be pampered. or a redwood tree because those are HUGE and they must receive so many hugs 🫂 what do you think you would be 🫢 LMFAOO it definitely could've ended worse for jay but he clutched up so well with the sunghoon throwing up excuse. also unfortunately yuna's still around but she won't be as big a presence as she was in the first act 😩 but so true she's absolutely a product of her upbringing but that doesn't excuse how she acts out with her friends :// like enough!!! HAHAH thankfully yuna's so pretty and makes me short circuit to the point that whenever i see her pictures online my only thoughts are Omg she's so pretty 😭😭

Protector [Soulmate September]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Park Sungjin x female reader
Genre: soulmate au / police au / angst / romance
World: Destined (set before Touch in Jaebum’s spinoff)
Warnings: cursing, police terminology, guns leading to a gunshot, sassy commentary constantly spilling from Y/N
A/N: For fans of both my soulmate series Destined, and Brian Kang series To Be Continued, I’ve brought Sungjin back into the police force! This is my version of the story Miss Writer penned in the latter series, and I’ve always wanted to broach the topic of soulmates coming from two very different backgrounds like this in the social construct I created in Destined, so I hope you enjoy – thankfully there’s not a Doctor Park in sight!
Word count: 8914

“Hey Lieutenant.” Glancing over at the constable who slumped into the chair beside him, Sungjin tried to hide the ghost of a smile. His lips twitched enough for the man to see, however, and Jaebum’s smile spread across his face. “What? It’s basically official. Right?”
“It will be once I finish this case,” he said confidently. Glancing at Jaebum’s now weary expression, Sungjin frowned. “Still no luck?”
“You know me. Always looking.”
Sungjin knew all too well about Jaebum’s search. The man had joined the force with the very intention of using the powers of being a police officer to dig through the database for his soulmate. For the last three years, Jaebum’s search had come up fruitless.
Sungjin couldn’t quite sympathise with the man. He had no understanding of what a soulmate felt like in his world. Growing up around the social construct of the phenomena didn’t shield him from the basics, and there had been some seasons in his life where the jealousy of others happily enjoying their soulmate relationships had him awake at night considering who his fated person would be. Loneliness was more the culprit, however, and he had a great cure for that.
Work.
And because Sungjin had thrown so much of his attention into his job serving the city that employed him to keep the streets safe instead of setting up his life by twenty-five with his destined partner, he was already looking at a new promotion well before others around him had received.
“So, what’s the case?” Jaebum asked, leaning over from his cubicle to the open file on Sungjin’s desk. It wasn’t a secret what he was working on. The fellow officer had worked alongside him on the scene of the last robbery linked in a series well planned out lootings. There was never anyone harmed, but they certainly took off with valuable items, causing it to become an important case to solve.
And its completion would hand Sungjin the title of Lieutenant.
When he had become a police officer six years ago, it wasn’t with some goal of moving up the ranks. He didn’t stem from a generational law enforcement family either. His father, a pharmacist, and mother, a schoolteacher, hadn’t ever set out a life plan for him as he grew up. But he had been taught strong morals, and a sense for justice had propelled him forward with his career. Being a police officer suited him. It was enough action that he wasn’t out searching for something to excite his world, and catching criminals sometimes came with great pleasure.
Especially if the crimes they committed threatened the safety of others.
He’d also witnessed a lot of people on the wrong side of the line, caught up in drugs or shady dealings that didn’t deserve the hefty slap on the wrist they received by the judicial system. That part of the job he had the hardest part accepting. At the end of the day, he was tasked with catching the right culprit. What time they served and the consequences of their actions weren’t in his job description to decide on. Even if he had a hard time swallowing it down when it was a genuinely bad time in that person’s life that had led them astray.
Sungjin made sure his efforts were spent arresting those who truly deserved it.
“If all the information we’ve collected on this case so far is correct, the next attempted robbery should be this weekend,” Sungjin announced, and Jaebum grew thoughtful.
“Do you know exactly where?”
“No. The criminal profiler working alongside the team has helped us narrow down the location on the east side of the city within a five-mile radius. I’ll be positioned at one of the buildings of interest.”
Jaebum clapped him on the shoulder. “Wow. That’s some big-league stuff there, Sergeant.”
“Thought it was Lieutenant a moment ago?” Sungjin questioned, and Jaebum grinned.
“Let’s see how your weekend goes before you get too comfortable with the title.”
Tumblr media
It was closing in on the time suspected of the next robbery. Sungjin was tasked with waiting just outside of an artisan jewellery shop, lurking in the shadows of an alleyway. Earlier, in a briefing with the Behaviour Analysis Unit and fellow investigating teams, Sungjin had felt as if they were missing an element in the setup for this robbery and spoke up about his opinions. However, his concerns had been dismissed by a Captain who thought far too much of his own voice than his meagre field experience. And that was what had Sungjin standing outside the spot where he knew the assailant wasn’t going to venture.
Even if he hadn’t met his soulmate yet, his intuition was second to none, and Sungjin’s mind was screaming with his body to go two blocks over where he considered the action to be tonight. It wasn’t as flashy of a jewellery store and seemed to fit the profile of the criminal completely.
“We have eyes on the suspected vehicle coming down Brookfield Avenue,” a voice announced into his earpiece, and Sungjin shook his head.
“That’s not where he’s going,” he murmured to himself, kicking a stone in frustration. Sure, this promotion would come his way regardless of whether he caught the criminal himself or not. Someone just had to be in the right place at the right time.
But chances were, no one was in the right place at all.
Sungjin was a stickler for the rules. For keeping the operation safe. He’d seen what happened to his partner when he was just a rookie, the older man throwing himself in the path of a reckless killer. He’d only just survived, and that made the killer change tactics from there out and cost his partner his whole career. One bad move could make things worse for everyone involved.
But not making the right one either… The thought plagued him, the toss-up in his head to move growing stronger by the minute.
“Park, do you see anything?” a voice, thankfully from a fellow member of the precinct he worked for, dispatched through and Sungjin sighed.
“Nothing. This feels off.”
“What if your thoughts earlier in the debriefing were right? That profiler seemed to agree with you.”
“Still doesn’t give us permission to charge the wrong spot on a hunch, Yoon.”
“Your hunches are normally right,” Yoon Dowoon acknowledged, causing Sungjin to grimace.
He was wrestling between right and wrong now.
“Suspect is now heading towards site three,” another voice spoke suddenly into his ear, and Sungjin cursed, shaking his head.
He pressed on the lapel of his casual clothing, talking before any hesitance stopped him from acting on what he knew was the change in the plan. “I’m moving.”
“Park, stay in place!”
Tuning out, he pounded down the alleyways that joined the bustling shop fronts together. The district was one he had become all too familiar with over the last month when scouting for signs of how to catch the culprit. Even on his days off, he had been out here, trying to think in the mind of the assailant. The other shop was the right location. Sungjin just knew it.
“He’s not alone,” Dowoon informed, his breathing now laboured, no doubt following Sungjin’s lead in heading to the strip of shops he had insisted they also look out for.
“Shit,” Sungjin cursed, sliding in his sneakers around a tight corner. “He knew we were waiting for him at the other places.”
“I’m near. Where do you want me?”
“Hold back three buildings down. I’ll come from the rear.”
“On it.”
Sungjin slowed down the chase, wanting to catch the man in the act rather than push on before he could do anything. He needed evidence to pin on him.
However, his hasty decision to change the plan meant others were now aware, and their reactions were less than ideal. Sungjin heard a siren looming a few blocks over and swore lowly, heaving in steadying breaths as he pressed against the back exit to the store. There was movement on the inside, and given it was well into the night, the shop had been closed for several hours.
Sungjin prepared for what would happen next.
Though when the door did break open, it wasn’t who he thought would come out. The culprit was much smaller than the description of the burly man behind these robberies, and Sungjin realised as she began to run down the alleyway that the main culprit hadn’t even come tonight.
“It’s a trap. He’s not here at all!” Sungjin grunted to his team as he pushed on his legs to follow her now disappearing up ahead. Hairs prickled against the back of his neck, sensations overwhelming him as he continued his chase.
The woman was fast but didn’t seem to know these alleyways nearly as well as he did. Sungjin felt relieved when she turned, knowing it would lead to a dead-end and sprinted after her, even though his breathing was coming up short.
Perhaps it was because he had broken away from the plans for the night, but he felt more on edge, his senses coming to life in a way he hadn’t experienced in a chase before. He could see her up ahead, having found the dead-end and was observing the area in front of herself for an escape. Not even a fire escape ladder could get her out of this mess.
Slowly turning around, Sungjin stopped short, a shaky breath expelling from him. Just who was she to make his skin prickle with varying sensations like this? She took a sudden step forward before pulling up short.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” you breathed out, and if Sungjin hadn’t been so surprised by your voice, he would have been more focused on trying to decipher if you were annoyed or surprised.
Moving forward, Sungjin assessed if you were carrying a live weapon or not, even though his heart rate had spiked. Your hoodie could have a concealed weapon beneath it, though the skinny jeans you wore didn’t seem to house anything suspicious.
Just why were his eyes washing over you so earnestly? It couldn’t be just to investigate the risk you posed on him right now. He yearned to see your face, hidden by the hood that covered your head and that propelled him forward, your reaction to dart away from his sudden movement stunted when he launched at you.
Both rolling together after grabbing you, you landed in a heap together, Sungjin’s arm instinctively going behind your head before hitting the concrete beneath you. The hoodie had slipped back, but that wasn’t the reason for his loud gasp. Touching you had his skin on fire.
“You’re—”
“What are the odds,” you responded in an equal state of headiness, eyes dilating as you looked up at him.
Everything inside of him lurched in ways it never had before. As if holding you made him desperate to reach inside of you and link himself to you completely.
And that frightened him.
“You gonna get up and handcuff me any time soon?” you asked, bucking your hips up in his torso in an attempt to motion him to get up.
The action pulled out his instinctive police training, and Sungjin pressed into you further, maintaining his hold over you. You whined, and he sucked in another shaky breath. “Fuck.”
“I mean, it’d be a bit gross to do that right here, but I’m game if you are,” you responded sourly, though your voice didn’t match the wonderment in your eyes. Your lips still somehow formed into a smirk. “How’s it feel to be a cop and meet your soulmate on the run, huh?”
Admittedly, he didn’t know how to answer that. For all the right reasons, he was destroyed. Whenever Sungjin had imagined his life with his soulmate, it had been far too idyllic. Sweet and loving, just as his mother was towards his father. Although he didn’t want the white picket fence dream, he certainly hadn’t imagined that his soulmate would come into his life through his job. And even if he had thought of that, you’d always be the victim.
Yet, for all the wrong reasons, Sungjin was alive. His body thrummed with desire the longer he stared into your eyes. The feeling of your body pressed under him elicited so many delicious feelings that he hadn’t expected to ever desire. He wanted to close the gap, what little that remained, between you and kiss you.
He wanted to do a whole lot more than kiss you.
Sungjin wondered if you felt the same.
“What’s your name?” he asked, and you laughed hollowly.
“Why would I tell you that?”
“I want to know.”
“As a police officer or as the person connected to a bit of my soul?” you asked, and Sungjin blinked, trying to understand which prevailed right now.
“I-”
A police cruiser was nearby. He could hear the people in his earpiece talking again, finally snapping out of the stupor of your touch. He knew that they would come down the adjoining alleyway, looking for signs of where everyone had gotten to.
And for the first time in his justice led career, Sungjin chose not to follow orders. He hoisted you up and pulled you further into the shadows, pressing you into the brick wall of one of the buildings, whilst his steely gaze locked on the entrance to where you were. It slowly rolled by, and you both let out a breath at the same time, Sungjin blinking at the ramifications of his action.
You were equally as stunned. “You are a boy in blue, right?”
“Man.”
You rolled your eyes at his correction, hands sliding up his chest to his collar. When did you place your hands on him? He watched you pull back his top and found the cord attached to it, and groaned.
“Seriously? Can’t I catch a damn break in life for once?!”
“I think I just gave you one,” Sungjin reminded you heavily, and you flicked your gaze to his.
“Colour me flattered. But you’ve still apprehended me, haven’t you, Officer?”
“Sergeant,” he corrected again, and you let out a huff of air.
“Why don’t you just tell me what precinct you belong to while you’re at it, Loverboy.”
“You’re a firecracker of a personality,” Sungjin mused, annoyed that his lips curled up with the statement. You were nothing like what he wanted you to be, and that should have concerned him greatly.
Instead, he was excited.
“And you’re the epitome of a good guy. I know this connection can bring a whole range of people together, but the most cliché of all is when opposites attract.”
“Didn’t you at least think once when you chose the life you have—”
“I chose nothing about this life!” you seethed, your face turning thunderous momentarily. Your hands gripped at his shirt tightly, and during the storm surging within your eyes, he noticed just how scared you were.
Of everything.
All humour evaporated from him. “Are you—”
“Don’t give me sympathy. You’re the last person I want to meet tonight.”
“It’s not like I set out to have my soulmate pressed against a wall after a pursuit like this either,” he admitted, scrubbing a hand down his face. Although he was wired, he was growing tired too. His mind wasn’t as sharp as he needed it to be right now.
Sungjin had already given up precious time by holding you up in these shadows instead of calling for backup.
“So, what’s your plan?”
“I can’t let you go,” he told you, and you deflated against him. “Even if I want to do anything to keep you safe.”
“I’m not safe anywhere,” you muttered, looking over his shoulder at nothing in particular. “When do you plan on taking me in?”
“Soon.”
“Great. I’m ecstatic for this jailcell visit.”
“You’re not going to give me any chance to help you, are you?” he asked, and your eyes turned back to his warily.
“Help me? What’s a cop going to do to help me? You caught me coming out of that store. Don’t go building yourself any fantasies that I’m some feeble little girl who was gullible enough to get caught up in this. You know your job, so do it right. Soulmate connection or not.”
Sungjin steered at you for a moment more, the emotions washing over him not his own. You were panicking, not him. Even though you had an answer for everything and you were bold, a firecracker as he had labelled you before, he knew your type all too well.
Those who talk loudly always do so to buy themselves some time to hide their vulnerability.
Easing himself off you, Sungjin sighed heavily as he reached into his back pocket, producing a set of handcuffs. You thrust your wrists forward, fingers gripping onto his shirt as he clicked the first one closed around your left hand.
You smirked, once again the action not reaching up to your cautious gaze. “Will we get to use these behind closed doors too, Sergeant?”
“Didn’t take you for the roleplaying type,” he gruffly answered, hoping the heat in his tone didn’t reach your ears.
“I’m sure you were hoping for me to be some sweet little homemaker. Now who wants a bit of roleplaying, huh?” you bit back as he locked the other cuff down, his hand sliding up your forearm without much thought, hooking under your elbow.
Your eyes widened when he tugged you closer, your palms pressing into his chest again. “How about we just figure out who we are, as the people we’ve grown up to be. Hm?”
“Well, you’re already winning in this game of life a hell of a lot more than me. It’s going to be all too easy on your side of the board now, isn’t it?”
Sungjin swallowed slowly. “You have no idea how rough this is going to be on me too.”
Tumblr media
It was painful for Sungjin to make the call that he had apprehended one of the suspects. Contempt grew when the closest patrol car picked you both up, the looks of disgust aimed at you made a growl crawl up his throat that he only just caught in time before unleashing it. Another officer attempted to tug you out of the car when you arrived at the station. In any other situation, that was normal. Because it was you, however, Sungjin struggled to let them take you away from him.
He had to be debriefed also.
“Running off like that—”
“He caught a suspect, Captain Morse. It’s better than anyone else did,” a federal agent of the task force that they had worked with pointed out quickly. Agent Anderson smiled, ignoring the scowl the former was lashing out in her direction. “Good job, Sergeant Park. Did she talk at all?”
“Not a lot,” he admitted slowly, eying the pair cautiously. Sungjin felt the stain of your crimes upon his shoulders right now, which was a ludicrous notion.
It had to be the connection and your emotions affecting his otherwise stoic mannerism.
“She’s refusing to talk unless the cop who brought her in is present,” an officer announced after a light knock on the door, and Sungjin clamped his eyes shut, stifling a sigh.
“How convenient,” Captain Morse mentioned, and Sungjin felt his lethal stare. “I guess you not only knew where to look but also was the only one to capture a suspect. And now she wants you present? Interesting development there.”
Sungjin knew if the shoe were on the other foot, you’d be mouthing off right now in response. And he really wanted to. This guy was seriously getting on his nerves. The only crime he had committed tonight was dodging the first police cruiser.
It wasn’t as if he’d let you go even if he wanted to.
Answering would only make him look suspicious, so he merely lifted his gaze to the Captain and waited for further discussion.
The female agent smiled. “I can allow that. She’s probably scared. From what’s happened, the main assailant figured out our plan and sent cover-ups. Nothing was stolen, simply a break and enter. Whilst we all missed the point, he hit up an antique store across town. He’s getting to know us just as much as we him. And this one here, Captain, was one to point that out earlier.”
“I didn’t know he’d use a ruse like this,” Sungjin stated, falling into thought. “I wish I had considered the possibility.”
“Since you’re one of the few who are coming up with fresh ideas on this case, I think it makes sense to allow you to sit in and help with the interrogation, don’t you think? Considering we don’t even have her name yet.”
Sungjin had tried on the ride over to ask you for your name, but you had kept tight-lipped on that one. When the police officer at the station referred to him by his first name, however, he had noticed the way your eyes had widened, nostrils flaring with this new information. You had looked as if you wanted to echo the name but chose at the last minute not to, your gaze snapping away from his as they took you into the back rooms.
You were seated across from another agent, attempting to look bored of all of this. Only when your eyes lifted to Sungjin’s did you show any sign of how you truly felt.
You hadn’t wanted any part in this ruse, he realised.
“Is this the officer who caught you?” the male agent asked, and you smirked.
“He’s a Sergeant. Didn’t you know?” you remarked, eying Sungjin again. “He corrected my assumption earlier, so I’ll repay him the favour.”
Sungjin’s lips twitched but he didn’t say anything.
“Well, now that Sergeant Park is present, how about you start being helpful. What’s your name?”
“Firecracker,” you announced instantly, and Sungjin stifled his laugh, your amused expression catching his. “Isn’t that what you called me, Sergeant Park?”
“Honestly, we’re getting nowhere with you.”
Sungjin stepped forward with a sigh. “Just tell him your name. I don’t think we want to spend all night in this room.”
For a moment, Sungjin thought you’d mouth off again. You watched him with high interest, your mouth opening and then closing as you thought over his sentence. And then you lowered your eyes to the table. “It’s Y/N.”
Sungjin knew that hearing your soulmate’s name for the first time was something wonderful, but he wasn’t ready for the swell of his chest, the way your name now echoed through his veins as his blood pumped through his body.
“Okay, Y/N, how about you tell us your story.”
“From when? The day I was born or something more recent?” you listed with a grin.
The agent folded his arms across his chest. “You’re pressing on my nerves.”
“Well, these handcuffs are pressing on all my nerves too, but you don’t hear me complaining.”
“Until now,” Sungjin mentioned, and you rolled your eyes.
“Answer the question, Y/N. Why were you sent to the place Sergeant Park found you at?”
You groaned loudly before launching into the details. You didn’t know why you had to go there, and you weren’t the only one. Your brother, whom you refused to give a name over, was also with you and had been the one to involve you in all this. You were supposed to just break in and wait inside the shop until given the all-clear to leave. However, with the sirens approaching, your brother panicked and told you to run out the back door, and he’d go the front.
“And that’s why when I see him next, I’m going to thump him for leaving me wide open to be caught by him over there,” you concluded with annoyance, glancing in Sungjin’s direction with a scrunched nose. “This hasn’t been how I expected my Sunday to go.”
“Do you know who was giving the orders to your brother?” asked the agent, and you nodded, falling quiet.
“Who is he, Y/N?” Sungjin continued softly when you didn’t answer.
Your gaze lifted to his, meeting him so strongly that he had to fight his body from stepping forward and offering you comfort. It wasn’t your brother who scared you. That much was obvious. Whoever it was that controlled your life wasn’t someone you held any affection for. Even if you said you wanted to beat him, you were protecting your brother because of your familial ties towards him.
This other person scared you enough to make you fall this quiet.
“He’s the person behind the robberies,” you started, looking down at the table in front of you. “And I’d rather you lock me up and keep me here than tell you who he is. Because once he finds out that I’ve spoken, I’m as good as dead.”
Tumblr media
“We need to offer Y/N protective services.”
“She’s a criminal! Why would we do that? Sergeant, we just need to get her to talk,” Captain Morse replied bitterly, dismissing Sungjin’s suggestion instantly. “Don’t go soft just because she’s taken a shining to you.”
“It’s not being soft. It could assist us in capturing the main culprit,” Agent Anderson said, her expression thoughtful. “If we offer her a deal and promise her safety, Y/N might be able to give us valuable intel.”
“What if she’s lying? She’s got a mouth on her,” the other agent proposed, and Sungjin chuckled.
“Yeah, because she’s like an alley cat. That mouth is her claws, but really, she just wants something more secure in life than fighting on the streets for her next meal.”
“Good point.”
Captain Morse groaned. “We’ll be wasting government funds by putting her into protection services. She needs the book thrown at her.”
“Her record is mostly clean, Captain. I’d hardly say this is a woman whose idea in life is to be involved in crime. My bet is she’s been cornered into it through her brother’s connections.”
“We can’t dismiss the valuable information she can offer us,” Agent Anderson added to her fellow partner’s previous thoughts. “I think we need to place a cop in charge of her protection.”
“Sergeant?”
“Huh?” Sungjin blinked away from all his conflicting thoughts, glancing at the three people before him. He nodded. “I’ll step up.”
“That promotion is making you greedy, Park. Anything goes wrong here, and I’ll have your head on my desk,” Captain Morse announced gruffly, throwing his hands up in the air before storming off.
Agent Anderson let out a deep breath. “God. He’s an ass.”
“You’re telling me.”
She eyed Sungjin. “It’ll just be until we catch the criminal. I’ll put in a request for housing for Y/N, but until then, she’ll have to stay here.”
“Can’t I monitor from my house?”
“That puts your personal information at risk,” the male agent pointed out, and Sungjin nodded.
“I’m aware, sir.”
“It would get us ahead before the next robbery. She seems like the type of person who will give if we offer her something immediately.”
And when protection was suggested to you, your eyes rounded, surprised that you would be given such a deal. “You’re seriously capable of protecting me from him?”
Agent Anderson nodded. “If it means we catch him, we’ll offer you protection. Your act in tonight’s deal since nothing was stolen will be a slap on the wrist anyway. If you help us put the person you’re scared of behind bars, then we’ll offer you immunity.”
“I’ll be safe?” you wondered out loud quietly, contemplating the idea.
Sungjin remained quiet against the wall, but his mind was anything but. He craved to know who had turned your life upside down like this. He wanted to punish them in ways he didn’t believe he had the ability to do. This soulmate connection was tapping into all sorts of emotions he wasn’t prepared to deal with, much less the irrational anger overwhelming him.
You were staring at him when he blinked out of the unplaced fury, eyes wide. “You promise that I’ll be safe?”
Sungjin nodded as the male agent answered verbally. “Sergeant Park will be in charge of protecting you. We’ll be able to offer you further protection the more information you give us. We can even place you into the witness protection relocation services if this is bigger than robberies. What do you say, Y/N?”
“His name is Hector Granton,” you confessed instantly, your gaze still connected to Sungjin’s. “He’s my step-father.”
Tumblr media
You were uncharacteristically quiet on the drive to his house three hours later. You had handed over all the information the agents asked from you without mouthing off or any further hesitation. The longer the interrogation went, the smaller you appeared. You were no longer hissing at anyone or pulling out your claws, too exhausted to hold the brave front up anymore.
When Sungjin got out of the car and rounded to your side, you climbed out and stumbled right into his chest.
“You okay?”
“No. Where are we?”
“Home.”
“Home?” you repeated, allowing him to lead you gently up the small pathway to the front door. Once inside, he shut it and as he turned on the lights, you spun away to throw the latch. Sungjin watched as you took in the barrier with some trepidation before turning back to him.
“Habit, I guess.”
“You’re welcome to check all the windows are secured if that makes you feel better,” he offered, and you nodded silently. “Are you hungry?”
“No.”
“I’ll get your room set up then. Sorry, if I knew I’d be having a guest over, I would have prepared ahead of time.”
“I’m hardly a guest,” you murmured, taking in the personal effects of the hallway before meeting his gaze again. “Wait. This is your home?”
“Yeah.”
“And you’re okay with this? Hold on. Did you tell them that we’re—”
Sungjin shook his head. “Why would I be stupid enough to do that? This is only temporary until they get you a placement in one of their units. And then I’ll be stationed there. My house was only put on the cards because I valued helping the case progress faster than it would if we left you in a jail cell overthinking where you were kept.”
And because I wanted you with me, he added internally, though this notion still confused him. He didn’t realise that the bond between you both would be this intense and have him going against so many of his beliefs to make sure you were comfortable.
“Do you go around offering your house up to any person in need of protection, Sergeant Park?”
“Call me Sungjin.”
“If I do that then we might get too friendly, and I’m not ready for that just yet,” you admitted, and Sungjin accepted your wishes.
“To answer your question, no. I’ve not personally had to offer my private residence up before.” Walking off down the hallway, Sungjin turned on the lights to the living room as he passed the doorway. He noticed you wandered in there quietly when he glanced over his shoulder whilst he headed for the guest room. “But I would if it was requested of me in any case that it benefited to.”
“And here I thought you were doing it because you wanted to keep me close.”
I am.
Picking up a couple of stored items from the bed, Sungjin placed them in the wardrobe and fixed the comforter before closing the curtains. It was ready enough for you, and when he turned around, you were standing in the doorway.
“An officer will be over in the morning with the supplies you need. If you require anything else, let me know, and I’ll organise it. The bathroom is the door to the left of this room if you want a shower before bed.”
You shook your head, your eyes inspecting the room before turning back to his. “I’m really safe here, right?”
“I haven’t lied to you so far.”
“I don’t know you enough to—”
“Soulmate connection, Y/N,” he reminded, and you swallowed roughly. “You’ll be able to tell my emotions well enough with me this close.”
“You’re nervous,” you stated, and Sungjin nodded, wiping his palms on his pants. “And before you were so angry, I was worried the muscle that ticked along your jaw would burst.”
“It wasn’t easy to hear what your step-father is like.”
“I’m too tired to talk about that again.”
“I’ll leave you to it then. Do you need anything?”
Wrapping your arms around yourself, you shook your head. With a quiet goodnight, Sungjin moved out of the room and over to his bedroom, readying himself for sleep. But even after finding a comfortable spot on his bed, there was no way he could rest.
Not when all his thoughts were stuck on you.
Tumblr media
“You seriously eat it like that?” you wondered in horror, watching as Sungjin brought his toast up to his mouth. Glancing down at the peanut butter he’d spread over it, he then frowned.
“What’s so wrong with peanut butter?”
“It’s disgusting for one,” you answered and pulled out the butter from his refrigerator. “I can’t eat toast without a layer of butter first.”
“It’s called peanut butter, Y/N,” he pointed out, and you shook your head.
“It’s not the same.”
Each day that passed, you returned to the banter he had experienced on the first encounter. Everything about you was so different from his ways, and you had to point out all those differences at any chance you got. Even the way he folded his laundry had been scrutinised by you.
“You’re a particular little thing, aren’t you?”
You huffed. “What’s little about me?”
“Your height for one.”
“I’m not short.”
“Shorter than me.”
“Is that so, Sergeant Obvious. Hoping your match would be the same height or taller? You got a thing for tall ladies? Sorry to disappoint.”
Sungjin grinned over his toast that you eyed with another shake of the head. Taking a bite and swallowing it, he continued. “So easy to rile up.”
“You’re enjoying yourself far too much, Sergeant.”
“I really wish you’d call me Sungjin,” he replied, and you shrugged, taking a bite of your toast that you had covered with butter and a thin layer of strawberry jam.
“Bet you’re bored being stuck babysitting me.”
“I thought you didn’t want to be seen as little. Only kids are babysat, Y/N.”
“Stop saying my name so often,” you grunted, kicking your leg out under the table at his. He whined at your attack, which made you smirk.
And then Sungjin shot both his legs out, capturing your ankle between them. He was the smug one after that move.
“You’re such a pain,” you muttered, though the flush of colour to your cheeks said otherwise.
Even with all the differences, Sungjin was enjoying getting to spend time with you like this. And every time you blushed his heart thudded in his chest at being the cause behind it. He decided that having a soulmate was better than he ever expected it would be.
“Agent Anderson contacted me when you were still asleep,” he said, wiping his hands above the plate, letting the remaining crumbs fall onto it. “They’re going to need a little more information from you.”
“I’ve said enough, don’t you think?”
Sungjin sighed. “It’s been a week, and we’ve not been able to catch him yet.”
“Because Hector’s cunning. He’ll know I’ve betrayed him and change his tactics.”
“Change them how?” he asked, and you groaned.
“You know what I hate most about you? That you’re a cop. If you weren’t one, I’d probably be happier to know I’m stuck with you for the rest of my life!”
“Ouch.”
“Well, it’s true. We’re stuck with each other,” you mumbled, glancing away. “Sorry.”
“If it’s how you feel, then don’t apologise.”
“Don’t you find the concept of a soulmate infuriating?” you inquired, leaning over the table towards him. “Surely, you’d rather not have one.”
“I thought that when I was younger, but I’ve been jealous too many times of friends and family finding theirs to not want one myself.”
“You must be thrilled with the notion of announcing to family your soulmate is a criminal.”
Sungjin watched you quietly. “I don’t think you’re a criminal.”
“I have a record.”
“For stealing petty items as a teenager.”
“Still follows me around.”
“Did you steal because you were hungry?” he asked, and you nodded. “He didn’t feed you?”
“Jae— my brother and I tried to get away from him a few times. Naturally, we ran out of money fast.”
“Bastard.”
“You have a potty mouth when annoyed, you know.”
“Well, I’m no saint, Y/N.”
Huffing a breath in with his habit of using your name, you then cocked your head to the side. “You’re better than I hoped for.”
“Huh?”
“As a soulmate. My real father was killed and my mother married Hector to protect us from the mistake my dad made to him. I half-expected that the fates would only have another shady man to enter my life. I was happier not having a soulmate if that was the case.”
Sungjin watched you quietly, wrestling with the growing desire within him to hold you. To kiss you.
“If having you as a soulmate – cop and all – is what I get in return for years of abuse and manipulation, then I guess I’m luckier than I thought I was.”
“I’m the lucky one,” he breathed out shakily as your eyes widened. “Believe me.”
“How would you consider—”
He had lost control over his body by this point, scooting his chair back enough to get up, standing at your side without even blinking. After balancing one hand on the table, he reached behind your neck and placed his other hand there, meeting you midway as he lowered his head to yours.
And when his lips touched yours, it was as if the world around you shattered into a thousand pieces. His mind struggled with the absolute need coiling up in his stomach, his lips moving against yours that only made him certain that everything he felt for you was so unbelievably right. The moan that left you when he deepened the embrace rang in his ears loudly, the fire building when your hands slipped around his waist, bunching his shirt up in fists behind his back.
Everything changed with that kiss.
Sungjin knew that his job as a police officer wasn’t the only reason he would protect you now. You were his, and he was yours. There was no way to sever that connection. Not without a fight, anyway.
Finally, you slumped back in your chair, heaving in deep breaths. “What the hell, Sungjin.”
“What was that you just said, Y/N?” he asked cheekily, his mind reeling from the way his name sounded rolling off your tongue. “Did you call me—”
“Shut up before I make you shut up.”
“And how do you plan on doing that?” he inquired, sending a challenging expression at you. “Just how do you—”
Pulling him in for another kiss, Sungjin groaned with how perfect this felt.
He didn’t mind you shutting him up like this at all.
Tumblr media
“A sting operation?” you echoed, glancing around at the law enforcement team before you. “You’re going to send me out there? Are you insane?!”
“It’s not something we want to do,” Agent Anderson expressed grimly, shaking her head. “If Sergeant Park and I had it our way—”
“We need to catch Granton before he kills someone else. After taking you in, he’s killed three people. We’re not able to wait around on him to mess up anymore,” Captain Morse interrupted harshly, placing his hands down on the table that separated him from you. Sungjin’s hands balled into fists next to you.
This was the last thing he wanted to agree upon.
“You’ll be completely protected during the whole thing. We’ll ensure your safety remains paramount, Y/N.”
You laughed bitterly. “I don’t think you realise how dead I’m about to become if you do this.”
“How dead are the three people—”
“She gets it, Captain,” Sungjin snapped, glaring at the man. “You don’t need to guilt her into this. At the end of the day, if Y/N doesn’t want to do this, she has every right to say no.”
“How generous we are since we’ve offered her protection for three and a half weeks now, and all the information we’ve garnered so far has only gotten us one step closer.”
“You have my fucking brother locked up, thanks to me,” you mouthed back, kicking the table. “I think taking Jaehyung out of the equation and leaving Hector without either of us is good enough payment for housing me, Captain.”
“I don’t like you.”
You rolled your eyes. “The feeling’s mutual, asshole.”
“Sergeant Park is right, Y/N,” Agent Anderson stated with a heavy sigh, eying the Captain tiredly. “If you don’t want to, we won’t make you. But your brother has agreed to do it to lessen his time. If you help him and us, we’ll catch Hector. And we’ll make him pay for everything.”
“Including killing my father?” you questioned, and Agent Anderson nodded. “What about my mother’s disappearance. Will you look into finding her?”
“We have a task force already doing that,” Sungjin reminded quietly, and you nodded.
“Fine. I’ll do it.”
As a police officer, the small relief he felt that this could finally get Hector Granton behind bars made sense. But it was overwhelmed with a startling need to pick you up and hide you where no one could even risk a single hair on your head, let alone put you in the most precarious position in this operation. This could go badly for you, even with all the precautions in the world. It was the last thing Sungjin wanted to let happen.
Still, he didn’t hold authority over the operation, and if he did act on his instincts to hide you, it would end badly that way too.
“You’re quiet,” you mentioned on the car ride home.
“I don’t want to do this.”
You laughed hollowly. “You don’t say. I’m pretty sure you’ve considered putting yourself in my place instead by now too.”
“I doubt I’ll have the same impact, but at least you’d be safe.”
“They’re right. Putting Jae and I back out there will give them a better chance of capturing Hector. And they said I get to wear a bulletproof vest. That sounds kind of fun. Maybe I could get behind playing cop for a day.”
“You won’t be playing. None of this is a game, Y/N.”
“If I were cop for a day, I’d end up in jail, unfortunately. The number of times I’ve wanted to drop kick that asshole Captain of yours.”
“I don’t normally work for him. If I did, I’d request relocation,” Sungjin muttered, and you smirked.
“The way you balled your hands up had me wondering if you’d join me in beating his ass.”
“Violence doesn’t solve a thing, Y/N.”
“No, but it feels good in the moment,” you retorted, sighing a moment later. “I can do this.”
“I know you can because you’re braver than any woman I know.”
“I’m scared to death,” you confessed softly, looking out the passenger window. “I’m scared I’m going to lose all this.”
“All this?”
“Protection. Food. Adequate housing. Laughter. This,” you listed, reaching out to connect with his hand. You laced your fingers with his, your watery smile causing a lump to form in his throat. “You. I’m scared I’ll lose you.”
“You won’t lose me. I’ll be there the whole time.”
“Hector can read me better than this connection of ours. Believe me. If I so much as react to you, he’ll take you out. I can’t lose you. Maybe it would be best if you weren’t there.”
“No. I have to be there.”
“I’ll be with Jae. I’ll be okay. And the federal agents will be there too.”
“I have to be there!” he repeated, voice cracking under the tension. Pulling up outside his house with a start, Sungjin flung his seatbelt off and turned to you. “You cannot do this without me.”
“You’ll do something stupid if I get hurt.”
“It won’t be stupid. It will be deadly,” he corrected lowly, and you cursed.
“Precisely. Deadly and dumb. We have to accept you cannot be there. Do you understand? You need to tell Agent Anderson that I’m your soulmate, or I will. And then—”
“You’ll be taken away from me completely. They’ll find another place to stash you and—”
“Wouldn’t that be better than one of us being dead?!” you screamed, the tears running down your cheeks as you shakily reached out for his shirt, gripping on tightly. “I don’t—I cannot risk you. Not after finding you. Not after the last three weeks of spending my time with you. You are too far inside me now for either of us to step away. I can’t lose you.”
“And I can’t lose you,” Sungjin choked out, pulling you into his embrace. You sobbed on his shoulder for what felt like forever, and when you both were subdued, you headed inside the house, Sungjin going into high alert as soon as the door closed behind him.
Pulling you into his side and placing a hand over your mouth, he shot you a desperate look to be quiet before letting go. “I want you to turn around and leave here now. Get in the car and use my radio system to call for backup. Lock all the doors and drive away.”
“What? I don’t—”
Kissing you recklessly, Sungjin then pushed you to the exit. “Go!”
He then turned to the cabinet in the hallway where he stored one of his handguns and slipped it out, edging down the hallway to the first doorway. He checked before entering the living room, eyes scanning the shadows for signs of what he could sense in here. Sungjin knew someone had broken in, and that you were now compromised being here.
He also knew the person was still within the house from hearing them creak across the floor when you entered before.
Silently, he moved through his home, avoiding the parts in the floor where he knew he’d make a noise. The kitchen was empty as well, and Sungjin used the back entrance to the hallway to go into the bedroom portion of the house. His room was empty, and that left your room – well, the one you had been using before you started sharing his bed over a week ago.
A dark figure sat on the bed, holding up the photo you had of your family before Hector. “I have never understood why everyone gets so hung up on their connections with people. Families can break, can bend against their will. And soulmates are just pathetic. Why allow someone else to make you weak like that?”
“I’m guessing your mother never hugged you enough when you were a child,” Sungjin remarked, surprising himself.
He’d been spending way too much time around you with how easily he said that.
Hector grinned softly. “Those kids always had such smartass mouths on them. I guess they rub off well when you end up kissing hard enough, huh?”
“The ruse is over, Hector. Why come here if you knew I would be the one holding a gun?”
“You’re not the only one who can wield a weapon, Sergeant Park.” Hector chuckled again when Sungjin’s eyes widened. “You think I don’t know who you are? I know all about you. That stupid bitch told her brother she was safe with a cop. Did she not think I’d find out? I always find out.”
“Must be tiring to be such a know-it-all,” Sungjin muttered, and Hector shrugged.
“She’s never felt safe, and I sure as hell knew no cop would do that for her either. So that’s when I figured I should watch more closely. You are soulmates, aren’t you? How tragic. You’ll both end up dead, and your souls will be set free too soon after being reunited. Because no one can have her aside from me.”
“Not happening, buddy,” Sungjin announced, his finger pressing down on the trigger in preparation.
Hector was faster, however, and the sound of gunshots made Sungjin confused. He hadn’t shot him, that much he was aware of. As he fell to his knees jarringly, the gun he held dropped at his feet, the rush of pain too overwhelming to be any use against the criminal. And yet his now blurring vision showed Hector also falling, blood gushing out of the hole in his head, his unblinking stare being all Sungjin saw for several arduous blinks.
“Oh my god!” you wailed, arms wrapping around his body suddenly. Sungjin slumped into you heavily, which made you lose your balance, clutching him to your chest as you shook vigorously. “Sungjin?! Stay with me. Don’t you dare close your eyes!”
He couldn’t reply, the sheer effort it took just to breathe in and out becoming too much. He knew he must be dying, and the last thing he wanted was for you to watch him fade away in your arms. He could feel your emotions, your pain crippling him along with his physical injury. Lifting his hand slowly, he tried to reach up for your tear-stained face, but he didn’t make it, the world falling into darkness.
Tumblr media
When he opened his eyes, he knew he wasn’t in heaven. If he were, the air wouldn’t smell of antiseptic, and the lights wouldn’t be so harsh on his eyes. The beeping of a machine assaulted his eardrums, and the crisp blankets over him were too tight.
Heaven wouldn’t be this painful.
And yet, Sungjin was certain he saw an angel step into his view, his lips curling up into a lazy smile. God, you were beautiful.
And you were mad. Furious even.
“If you weren’t so weak, I’d punch you right now!” you told him with a tight voice, your hand reaching out to touch his face. It trembled against his skin, and you closed your eyes. “You’re lucky you came to. I was about to find a way to barter with Death himself to bring you back.”
“Always… so dramatic,” he hoarsely managed to say, still smiling up at you.
You scowled, though relief was softening your features. “I can’t believe you just went up against him like that.”
“I had to protect you.”
“By getting shot? Shit, you did a good job there,” you replied, too upset to sound as sassy as you aimed for. Leaning down to press your forehead against his, you inhaled shakily. “You idiot. I told you I couldn’t lose you.”
“You haven’t.”
“Thanks to me choosing to ignore all your instructions. Thank God, I knew you kept a gun in your glove compartment. Which, by the way, is that really safe to do? What if someone stole your vehicle? You’d be leaving it armed with a loaded gun. Is that police protocol?”
Although he had questions about what had happened since being unconscious, all Sungjin could do then was laugh. It hurt to do, and he winced when he felt something tug on his stomach, his hands slowly moving to his side.
“You were shot, Sungjin,” you reminded with a groan. “You’ve only been out of surgery for a day. That wound is going to be fresh for a while.”
“So, I guess that means you have to protect me instead, huh?” he answered after you guided some water into his mouth, helping with his dry throat.
You smirked. “Do I get to wield the handcuffs instead of you this time?”
“Always wanting to roleplay,” he commented darkly, and you grinned.
“Well, if I need to protect you, I’m going to have to tie you to the bed.”
“How come?”
“From what I’ve learned about you so far, you don’t know when to sit and let someone else do things for you,” you explained, tilting your head to the side as you smiled genuinely. “You’ve taken such good care of me. It’s my turn now.”
“I promise I’ll allow you to. No handcuffs are needed.”
You laughed then, reaching to cup his face in your hands. “I didn’t expect you to become everything I need in this world so quickly. But after what’s happened, I can’t imagine straying from your side ever again.”
“Good. Because after taking a bullet for your safety, I’m going to need you to stay at my side until I’m good enough to protect you fully.”
“He’s gone, Sungjin. I’m finally safe. I don’t need you to protect me anymore.”
“Is that so?” he wondered, and you nodded, leaning down to kiss him softly. He marvelled at how easily desire built within even with how weak he was feeling from his near-death experience.
And when you pulled back, he felt as if some of his soul was rejuvenated.
“I’ll let you protect me even if there’s no threat over my life anymore,” you announced, resting your head on his shoulder.
“I can be your protector forever?”
“That sounds mighty fine to me, my love.”

Chapter 8 – Burning Feelings
 Young K
“Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me?” I thought to myself the whole day whilst trying to stop thinking about her, it was like I was intoxicated and drowning in her. Her lips, her gentle caresses, her touch… I wished she was touching me, I missed her and I wished she was next to me. But she wasn’t. I was at work and I should be focusing on the tracks for the next album, instead of thinking about how precious and burning hot she looked like when she was sucking me off. Exactly, I should definitely be absorbed in work and not be thinking about hot showers or the fact that I almost said I loved her. “What the F-U-C-K. Get a grip.” Yes, I decided to ignore that last subject and disguised it with all the lusty excuses I could find. That was something that wasn’t hard to do since I had a lot of those on my disposable.
Usually, the studio was really loud and there was a lot of movement, but not today. Today, I was alone with my thoughts while Sungjin and Wonpil went to help some trainees, Jae was busy recording some crazy video of his and Dowoon was practising non-stop.
I looked down at my notebook and all I saw was a blank paper filled with distraction and unproductivity. As I leaned my head back on the chair, I felt my back cracking and stretching to the right place whilst my stomach decided to become louder than my tangled thoughts for once. I looked at my phone to check the time and I decided it was late enough to call it a day.
In one of our million exchanged text messages, Violet had mentioned a food stand near the JYP building that she was addicted to, she told me she would go there every time when she had to meet her brothers near their working hours. “Waiting for them to finish work with an empty stomach is torture! Plus, that lady cooks tteokbokki like no one else! She’s the best”, since she texted me that I’ve been curious to check it. And what a better way to stop thinking about her, other than going somewhere she loves? Great idea. So, I gathered my things and went to meet Dowoon before leaving.
When I opened the door of the practice room, I saw our cutie maknae sweating and lost in his beats.
- Hey there, are you hungry? – I asked him looking for some company to share a meal.
- Oh, I’ve just eaten a snack. I’m really feeling it, right now! – Dowoon said as he jumped around on his seat and made some sweat drops fly around from his hair.
- Alright! You keep it up. I’m going to head out and get something to eat. When the others get done, go home with them. I’m going to walk around for a bit.
Dowoon nodded and gave me a kind smile as if he understood I needed some alone time before I left the room. The point wasn’t that I needed to relax and be alone, I desperately wanted some alone time, yes, but with Violet. But that was not going to happen.
I faced the chilly weather and wondered down the busy street of the city. It was filled with delicious warm fragrances which were provoking my stomach and making me drool. To console myself and to stop the torture, I stopped at the “precious food stand” she adored so much to eat some tteokbokki. The lady served me a very generous portion, probably even too generous, she was really nice indeed, just like Violet had previously described. Her kind smile warmed my heart as it made me feel somehow closer to Violet. When I paid for the food, I told the lady she could keep the change. It was only fair since she had served me way too much food.
With the tteokbokki as my consolation, I continued with my lonely walk. Luckily, the streets were busy enough for me to not be noticed, which made me be just one more guy wearing a black hoodie in the crowd. My mind was now beginning to be clearer since I wasn’t starving anymore.
As I faced the cold breeze with the warmth of my meal burning up my lips with its sweet spiciness, suddenly I saw some perfect bouncy curls passing by, not too far from me, walking in the opposite direction where I was going. My heart skipped and I stopped breathing from the expectance of seeing her right when I was craving for her presence so much, but when I turned around, I couldn’t see her anymore. Perhaps, I was merely hallucinating from the lack of her attention which was not lacking at anyway. She didn’t lack anything and even though she wasn’t perfect, together we were clearly my kind of perfect and that thought alone made my feelings impatient and greedy.
There I was, eating and walking down a busy street, surrounded by people I didn’t even bother to look at, with only a single thought in my mind: Violet. And with that revealing confection, I stopped lying to myself and let my hopes and courage be fuelled with my true desires and passion. “I think I like her a lot.” I concluded and let the nervous excitement invade me as it burned me, wet me and made me stumble. “Wet? Wait what?” When I looked forward, I realized I was burning and wet because someone, who didn’t even bother to apologize, had spilt their coffee on me.
Great.
- Look where you’re going. – The rude man said as he vanished in the crowd.
For my luck and out of reflex, I was able to avoid the coffee to damage my jeans. After taking some deep breaths and trying to contain my anger, I looked around to find a store so I could change my wet hoodie. That was certainly an easy task, it took me less than thirty seconds to find a clothes store and I thanked God for that since it was so chilly outside, it wasn’t comfortable to walk around like that. As I stepped in the store, I regretted it immediately, the environment was so warm and cozy, going back outside would be a big challenge… or at least that’s what I thought.
I could’ve picked anything without thinking too much, but then I saw a light blue hoodie that reminded me of her room. So, of course, that was the one I went for, plus it would definitely look great on her and I was also definitely buying it for me, just for me.
After paying for it, I asked one member of the staff if I could use the fitting room to change into the clean hoodie and thankfully she was really discreet about my presence. I put my wet hoodie in the paper bag of the new one and started heading outside, as my phone vibrated. When I lit up the screen everything disappeared around me and all I could do was smile and try to contain the butterflies that had invaded my stomach. It was Violet.
Tumblr media
I smiled at the image that had popped up in my mind, as I imagined how cute she must have looked while eating street food in this cold weather. Then, suddenly, all I could feel was the loud thudding of my heart when I took a second look at the picture she had sent me, and I realized she was at the food stand I was at earlier. Without thinking much and ignoring the fact that we had only texted and never even called each other, I started running to that direction and hit the call button with no hesitation. The wind had become colder as I moved faster than previously on that early night, but for some reason, it had become easier to face it with the sound of the telephone line guiding my hopes and needs. However, that hope was nothing compared to when those long sounds were interrupted, and she picked up my call:
- Do not move! – I said between breaths without breaking my pace.
- Oh, no! Is this an assault? – She laughed on the other side of the line.
- Are you still near the food stand? – I almost screamed as my excitement took the best of me.
- Yes! Going for a second here, Sir. – She says between giggles before noticing my heavy breaths – Young K?
I sped up a little and tried to sound normal on the phone, the food stand was right at the corner of the main street. I was nearly there.
- Are you running, or something? Are you okay? – Violet asks with her month audibly filled with food.
- I was. And yes, everything is okay. – I whispered hiding my face in the hood as I finally reached her and hugged her from behind to feel her holding her breath from the fright – I just missed you all day, that’s all.
Violet stood there rigid in my embrace for a few seconds before relaxing and trying to turn around so she could face me. When she looked me in the eyes, what I saw was a mixture of confusion and comfort. She was more than happy and also relieved to see me standing in front of her. God. How cute she looked as she tried to chew her food in the most delicate way she could, I guessed that she put too much inside her month since no one was watching her before. But I would never complain, I loved it. She was adorable most of the time and then in the next second, she would be so daring. And yet, “always so thoughtful” I caught myself thinking as I noticed she was looking around the crowd to make sure no one had seen me and that I wasn’t in trouble.
- God. I want to kiss you. – I started to murmur whilst my hands travelled down her soft cheeks and teased her jawlines.
- Right n-now? – Violet stuttered as the panic in her voice made me wake up from my trance.
We were surrounded by people that would not be a good idea at all, even though my whole body and will were saying the exact opposite. I stared at her reddened nose from the cold and examined the shade of her cheeks, hopefully, that shy colour wasn’t provoked by the weather but my presence.
- You’re right. – I admitted, backing off slightly and increasing the space between us, to see her tender lips part in defeat as she stared at mine.
- But I want to… I just fear for you… – Violet reassured me as her eyes lit with the expectance of a distant kiss.
- I can see you do. – my teasing words touched her conscious and she forced herself to look me in the eyes as my lips burnt from the intensity of her stare.
In between timid smiles, we walked around as the sun started to set and the streets got less busy since we were heading off the main courses and our conversation about work filled the silence
With our hands brushing slightly against each other accidentally, the need of holding hers was progressively being fed and increased as the minutes spent next to her went by. Finding Violet there, out of the blue, was a gift from destiny or whatever you want to call it. I was simply so grateful for her presence and also going crazy for repressing my urge to kiss her tender lips. What a twist of a feeling. My mind couldn’t be more lost than it was at that moment, but my heart was in an accelerated pace that I had never experienced before.
- What were you doing around this area? – I asked trying to fill the comfortable silence that engulfed us a few minutes ago, leading to giggles and shy smiles.
- Oh, I had dinner with the bros. Big bro is going to work late tonight and the little brat is going to sleepover at someone’s house. – Violet replied with her steps turning into nervous fidgeting movements.
- What did you eat? – I asked not just trying to make conversation but because I was deeply intrigued to know every single detail of her day, so the time I was away from her could be compensated.
- A sandwich from subway. Just something fast. – She replied biting her lips immersed in her thoughts.
The simple action drove me insane. I was trying my hardest not to kiss her but seeing her biting her lip was the final blow to completely knock out my self-control. As we passed by a dark alley, I took the opportunity and grabbed her wrist and guided her deeper into the shadows of the hidden street. Being controlled by my thirst, I grabbed her shoulders and pushed her against the wall as I gently, in a slow pace, rubbed my lips against hers and unconsciously held my breath between accelerated heartbeats. My hands let go of the hoodie paper bag and trembled with the feeling of touching Violet again, they trembled with the anticipation of the moment I could feel her skin against my hands and travelled leisurely through her body; so, one rested on her waist and the other grabbed her neck possessively. Violet’s eyes were drowning in expectance for my kiss, our kiss. I probably made her wait too long for it since she offered me a kind smile filled with thirst and embarrassment, perhaps I took too long adoring the features of her majestic face and delayed the kiss, or perhaps I couldn’t fight my own nature and had to keep teasing her.
I let go of a breath, I forgot I was holding and kissed her like she was the air that I needed. I kissed her deeply and devoured her mouth with my feverish tongue, needing to taste her after a long day of missing her sweetness. Exploring her mouth as if it was our first kiss.
I felt Violet’s legs give away as our tongues played with each other, so I increased the pressure of my body on hers and made all the tiny distance between us disappear as my leg slid between hers. Violet moaned softly in response to the vigorous contact, making me groan in unison as my body started reacting towards hers and my bulge began to grow. Suddenly, her nails scratched the skin of my neck and then pulled my hair in the urge for a deeper contact.
Restricting myself from committing a public offence on a dark alley, I bit her lower lip to progressively distance ourselves from our frenetic kiss. Caressing her cheeks, I winked at her, grabbed my paper bag once again, and walked away from the shadows and heading back to the street. I could feel she was still standing there on the same spot, but I gave her a few moments to pull her herself together.
Violet soon joined me again, maintaining her distance from me, probably trying to avoid getting me in trouble in public. Though that distance killed me, how I wished to hold her hand and make her understand I wanted her… I wanted her to be mine. Suddenly, that distance increased, and I stopped feeling her next to me, I looked back at her and noticed she stopped.
- What’s wrong, Beautiful? – I asked her worried as I followed her stare, she was looking at a movie arcade there.
- It’s a weekday, there’s probably no one there… and it’s dark, I guess. – She replied unsure of her request.
“How precious,” I thought to myself as I gave her the only answer I could probably find, I smiled in agreement and followed her inside.
- So, I’ll buy the tickets. Hide that gorgeous face behind your hoodie and pretend to look at your phone.
I watched her do her thing, Violet was polite and delicate to everyone when she was buying tickets for the movie that she didn’t even know what was about. She was cute, very cute. Violet even got us popcorn and cold drinks, the whole package for the date. Date. “Fuck!”
- Next time I’ll pay, I’m sorry. You caught me off guard! – I apologized almost in panic for not paying our first date out.
Violet placed a popcorn between her lips and then caught it with her teeth, playing with it with her tongue to finally eat it, as she looked at me smirking for my comment. My friend down below started flinching inside my pants with the visual audacity of her provocation.
- Uh! The first sign you can’t keep up with me. I’m winning. – She giggled as she tormented my longing desires.
- Declaring war, are we? Careful. – I managed to say in an attempt to tease her back.
To be honest I didn’t think we would watch the movie, because the theatre was empty. “Oh, Jesus! Help me.” I begged in silence. We sat at the far back seats in the middle since she said it was the best seats to watch the movie. “Are we actually watching?” I asked her in my mind and tried to suppress the detailed image my imagination was creating of her bouncing on top of me as she rode my cock in an empty theatre. “Stop it.” I told the beast inside my pants as I tried to find a comfortable position to sit down next to her.
Violet nudged my hand to hold hers and I thanked the heavens for the fact that my eyes had adjusted to the dark so quickly. Once I held her hand, I noticed how she squeezed her legs adorned by her ripped jeans and I started wondering how easy it would be to touch her skin. I leaned towards her ear to whisper something, but I was startled by the couple that walked in and I rapidly sat straight on my seat. I heard her giggle at my behaviour, mocking me as they sat far away from us. I looked at her and saw how relaxed she was, she was probably certain that I wouldn’t do anything too daring to her there.
She. Was. Wrong.
We were talking quietly about everything and nothing, none of us was paying attention to the movie. I started to slowly caress her here and there, just a light touch and then I let my finger play with the exposed skin of her legs, when I nipped her earlobe, and I could feel her skin shivering under my fingers. With the reaction I inflicted on her a devilish need grew and burnt me, so I flatted my hand on her thigh and squeezed the flesh under my palm making her squirm and fidget on her seat. Violet grabbed my arm and dug her nails in my skin, trying to make me stop. I didn’t. I kept touching her and found my way to her top, exploring her tummy beneath her blouse, as I went higher, I felt her stiff trying to suppress her reactions. When I sneaked my hand under her bra and coped her breast, she almost jumped but the only response I got was a glare and her hand covering her mouth muffling the moan that erupted from her throat.
- What a good girl. Not making any noise, I didn’t know you had it in you. – I whispered to her near her sensitive ear.
Violet grabbed my chin and leaned towards my craving lips when suddenly we were interrupted by the noise of soft husky moans. She blinked frenetically and rolled her eyes as she understood what was happening with the other couple and let a disappointed breath got away.
- Well… she doesn’t. – Violet said already smiling – Let’s get out of here.
I watched her get up loudly, that was probably her way to show her discontent about the noises they were doing. I hurried after her without forgetting my paper bag and before we exited the theatre, I stole her a kiss. She grabbed my waist to pull me closer to her as she felt my hardness, this time she was the one who pushed me against the wall and without breaking our synchronic lips and starving tongues. Her legs trembled once again when I explored the inside of her mouth deeply smiling between our kiss. That was one of her weaknesses. But she knew mine too, to wipe my smirk away she bit my bottom lip and stared at me with fire in her gaze that could burn me for hours, or even days. She gave me a good squeeze on my thrilling bulge and walked away. God, how I loved this side of her.
- I need to use the ladies’ room. – She informed me before disappearing into the toilet. Even though I was the one who needed to go to the toilet more than her… to take care of some business if I could.
I waited for her as I leaned breathless against the wall and accidentally let my paper bag slid through my fingers. I took the black hoodie out of there and noticed it had dried, there wasn’t any spot adoring the material. Then, taking a closer look the blue hoodie I was wearing, I thought “well, I did buy it while thinking about the colours of her room”. And with that mindset, I hurried to the toilet myself and changed into the old hoodie so I could lend the new one to her and got rid of the annoying bag.
I was faster than her. When she walked out of the toilet, I was already waiting outside for her. Violet had now drops of water running down her face, but refreshing her cheeks with water couldn’t hide how blushed she looked. And the way that she was walking let me know how horny she was.
- Let’s go. –  Violet said when she saw me.
I stood still since I couldn’t focus on what she was saying, feeling distracted by her ass swaying from one side to the other, but when I didn’t answer she turned around and then she noticed that I changed my clothes. I gulped and searched for my pride when she noticed I had changed, but I couldn’t find it. I had lost already. Clearly.
- It’s probably too cold outside, right now. Put this on. – I suggested as her eyes lit up and her dimples surfaced.
Once she put it on, it was game over. My heart almost jumped out of my chest, she looked so small in it and yet so powerful, nothing could compare to that feeling. That feeling, as if she was already mine… as if she was accepting we belonged to one another. And just like that, I caught her gripping the hem of the hoodie’s collar and inhaling a deep breath to absorb all my fragrance present on the fabric. Trying to avoid getting my hopes too high and feeling a soft blush invading my expression, I tried to escape her spell with a joke:
- Pervert. – I said making her stop abruptly from adoring my perfume.
- Le..let’s go! – She said running away outside.
I put my hood on and followed her outside, the fresh breeze surprised us both, and perhaps it was because we were too hot at that moment. The wind was cutting us like knives; she slipped her hands in her pockets, protecting them from the cold.
But even though the weather wasn’t pleasing we kept walking in silence. It was comfortable and we were aware no one wanted to go home.
- I don’t feel like going home. – She admitted.
I laughed and punched her arm, she soon did the same and we intertwined our fingers just for a few seconds.
- How about we… – I stared as I looked around to scan what we could possibly do together – oh, let’s go there!
- It looks shabby. Are you sure? It’s fine by me but …
- Come on! It’s going to be fun! – I tried to appeal to her and whispered against her ear – I’ll sing to you. It will be a private concert. You can even make demands, Princess.
Violet blushed and bit her lip, I knew she was crazy about my voice and there was no way she could resist the temptation of me singing just for her. As she made her mind about my suggestion, I followed her in the direction of the karaoke joint.

raindrops and shared music

You’re stranded. Well, to be exact, both of you are stranded. He had barely managed to push you into the shelter by your waist before the skies opened up and let out a torrent upon the Earth, soaking his shoulders and back slightly. The pools of water against his shirt starts to grow bigger and worried that he might catch a cold in the chilly weather, you fish around in your bag until your fingers brush against the familiar material. Tugging it out of your bag, you walk up to him and began dabbing the water off his shirt, effectively catching him by surprise. He stops drying himself, and lets you take over instead.
He watches you with intent eyes, noting the way your heads tilt slightly as you try to peer over his shoulder to dry a hard-to-reach spot. He blushes a little at your close proximity; it tickles when your breath fans against his neck, yet he’s careful to not get into your personal space. He takes small, shallow breathes, shrinking further into his personal space and letting you come closer in instead.
When you deem him to be alright and back out of his personal space in a flash, his soft smile flatters, wishing you’d stay a little closer, a little longer. Instead, he follows your retreating figure, and takes a seat beside you on the bus stop bench. The sides of your pinky brushes against his ever so slightly, and the human contact is oddly...comforting.
You turn your head to the left, looking out for the bus - and pretending to be oblivious to the fact that he’s staring at you. When you turn to face the front, he quickly does the same, willing his heart to stop racing, and for his face to not turn so red. But you see it. You see the light tint painting his cheeks.
You swing your feet around and lean your body, hoping to catch a glimpse of your bus rolling into the stop. A quick glance over to your right tells you that he’s awfully stiff; his feet are glued together, knees bent in a ninety degree angle.  You have no idea what to do with that information, so you carry on swinging your legs. A few minutes pass, before you feel something nudge your hand. Looking down, you see a white earpiece pinched between his fingers, and you take it from him, your fingertips sweeping past his. You plug it in, and the steady melody of the falling rain mixed with the rhythm of the lo-fi beat playing in your ear creates the perfect feeling of being on an indie music video set.
What happens next is the classic start of every love story.
You place your head on his shoulders, ignoring the slight dampness on his shirt. Hands on your lap, the back of your palms are pressed against his. A heartbeat passes before you flip your hand over, and intertwine your fingers with his. You give it a little squeeze, telling him it’s ok. He squeezes back, “Ok.” Some time passes in relative silence between the both of you until you feel something soft press against your temple. You left out a soft huff that he hears, and you acknowledge his cute gesture by holding onto his hand tighter.
His legs are swinging in tandem with yours now, and both of you think:
I could get used to this now.

Imagine going back from school alone and unintentionally boarded the same train as your crush who is also your neighbour , Sungjin. He would approach you first and start a conversation. He sensed you feeling awkward so he made some lame jokes to loosen you up. You laughed at his jokes seeing how happy it made him. The rest of the ride was filled with laughters. 😍😍😍

It was a casual cold Winter's day, hands in my pockets with a bright smile on my face as my footsteps tapped against the hard concrete floor. A breath of smoke escaped past my lips, my hands huddling around my mouth to catch some warmth in an attempt to get heated up quicker but failed to make any difference so all I could do was leave it in my pockets.
My denim jacket was thin, a small lining of fabric so a lot of cold air slipped past the cracks and hitting my skin underneath, my long sleeved shirt underneath not doing much good to protect against the cold.
The town was quieter today, not as crowded as usual like normal Saturday's and Sunday's, the atmosphere was a lot different. People came from here and there but not many stayed for long, often grabbing some coffee to freshen up their morning or to go for a quick jog around the block to make themselves warm. I wasn't much in the mood for exercising, a cup of coffee was enough for me.
I walked a few more steps ahead of me before I was met with a door and the words "Brian's Cafe" on the front imprinted in calligraphy and white film. Pushing against the metal door, the cold air making it painful to the touch and causing the coldness to radiate on the metal, the recognizable ringing sounds of the bell echoed through the shop, some warm air finally hitting my skin from the heater as a sigh of relief was let out.
There were only a few people inside the cafe, some sitting by the windows with another person in front of them or casually gazing out by themselves having some hot chocolate with a fresh muffin or two. I let my steps take me to the front counter where the familiar face popped out from behind the staff door to the kitchen and greet me with the same old smile.
"Hey, Hyung! It's been awhile hasn't it?" Brian asked, his black hair dangling over his forehead covering a bit of his eyes. I could only nod in response and chuckle for a second before returning to a straight face.
"The usual, I'm guessing?" He said giving me a look of cheekiness as I laughed it out.
"I'll have a change today. I don't feel like having an Americano today, it feels off."
"That's a first, it's always Americano and I've never heard you change it ever since now."
"It's good to change..." I replied, scratching my neck before recollecting my memories and suddenly dropping the smile to form almost a frown.
"Right?"
Brian seemed to pick up on my new behaviour, leaning forward against the counter without breaking the eye contact and gazed into my eyes, his soft black pupils looking into mine with a focus expression. He seemed concentrated, only focusing on my face as things got a little uncomfortable due to the distance between our faces, almost as if we would kiss each other.
He immediately broke the silence after some time.
"Somethings wrong... I can tell..." Brian muttered under his breath, letting out a sigh and staring into my eyes as I questioned his response.
"My friend wouldn't change his order for no reason, I know him too well. It's always been Americano."
"W-What's wrong with Americano? I can change the order if I'd like to how I want my order to be taken. There's nothing wrong with that." I answered back, defending my speech and leaning back and forth on my legs before the sound of the bells to the cafe door sounded into the room.
Brian and I turned to the door, our eyes looking at the person that had come in while loud noises seemed to erupt from them, loud footsteps entering the cafe and chuckles heard everywhere. The cafe seemed much more livelier with them in the area, the once peaceful sound of silence now turned into a giant club or concert stage, something that didn't feel like a quiet library of some sort.
Our jaws seemed to drop when we looked at who it was, or rather, who they were. Brian was shocked, his eyes never leaving their sight as he watched the two walk in, boy and girl with giant smiles on their faces and hands cupped together tightly. I knew what he was thinking of, turning his attention away from the couple initiating contact with each other in public and turned towards me, noticing how my reaction was different.
I watched in pain. It was a straight face but my mouth slightly agape, my vision focused on them and their hands, their fingers intertwining and the bright smiles they showed, almost as bright as the sun perhaps. The looks they gave each other, the contact they made, the sweet connection between the two made my heart inside my chest ache harder, beating at a rate I couldn't control and send pain everywhere. A dying pain that is easy to conceal but difficult to heal.
Brian croaked his voice, making me turn my attention away.
"O-Oh, sorry, lost track then." I could only laugh it out, a pretend one, of course.
"No, you're good. You looked incredibly lost though so I had to bring you back to reality. So, what's it going to be besides Americano?"
I thought hard for a moment, giving some free time to myself to think, my mind still jumbled from the heartache before.
"A Caramel Macchiato, please." I told him with a decent smile as he looked at me a little shocked at first, a weird expression he pulled off as if he realized something before inputting it into my order.
"One Caramel Macchiato, coming right up." He said before pulling out his hand to retrieve my money, to which I pulled out the correct amount from my wallet. He added it to the register and headed for the coffee machine where he began to brew the beans, the fresh smell lingering around my nose as I sighed and went to take a seat at an empty table.
I couldn't help but turn to the couple sitting in one of the far tables of the cafe, exchanging glances at one another and touching each other's noses as if it was a natural thing to do in public. They squealed loudly with joy at each others touch, almost loud enough for some of the other customers to glance at them with annoyance. They didn't care, they didn't seem to care one bit if they disturbed other people.
It was like the spotlight was on them, and them only.
I watched from afar as they began talking to each other, smiling every once in awhile at the other person's response as they chuckled and laughed. The conversations were moderate noise, the sounds quiet enough to not be able to travel to the table where I was, but I could distinguish some words if it was completely silent. I couldn't help but eavesdrop on them, listening to their conversation in hopes of discovering something new.
"So, how's life been lately? I heard your ex-boyfriend hasn't been around lately. He must've been such a douche." The male laughed while the girl just sighed, a hint of happiness on her smirk.
"Life's been good now since he's gone out of my life, I don't feel like I'm being the one on top anymore, the one who has to be pulled down by him in order to continue loving him. He didn't love me so I won't love him back." She replied, making the male incredibly happy and eye smiling before leaning in to give her a peck on the lips.
The mere contact of the kiss made everything collapse, my whole world falling to pieces at how they managed to exchange love without being humiliated in front of other people. My heart ached, even more, it beat faster and faster, the pain in my chest increasing as it started to get harder to breathe and everything was turning darker, colder, emptier.
My heart was hurting because of her.
"One Caramel Macchiato." Brian's voice called from the counter as my head perked up and got out of the seat, walking to the table to retrieve my cup of coffee.
The walk was desperate, pitiful as I tried hard not to look back at them, at her to see if she would see me, or look at me in some way. My hand held onto the warm cup, the new heat hitting my skin as I brought it back to my table and sat down, only to look up from my seat and notice that her eyes were glancing at me. Those eyes, those feelings...
I quickly turned away, making sure we didn't look each other in the eyes once more as she turned back to the male who didn't seem to notice the exchanging of glances before. Cupping the cardboard around the cup, I made use of the heat from the coffee, hoping to warm up as the heat was dying down. It was getting colder despite the heater on full blast and the door shut tightly. It was going on for ages trying to achieve some heat, but I couldn't feel a thing. I was covered in goosebumps for no reason.
She stood up along with the guy in front of her, walking together hand in hand to the counter and waiting for Brian to take their order while she waited patiently. It was hard not to look at how beautiful she was, the shortcut dress with polka dots and long bag hanging from her shoulder, his tight jeggings and thin hands wrapping around your waist as his blonde fluffy hair seemed to wave around with anticipation. He was perfect for her, he gave her everything she ever wanted, something I could never do if I dated her, ever.
I just wish I could turn back time and do it again. Start over and retrace my steps.
Brian came to her aid and smiled, except a bit of pain seemed to show as if he clearly knew how I was feeling inside too. He kept his facial expression and took the orders, giving them a nod before they walked off to their seat and blabbered on again.
They reminded me of someone I used to be.
Someone I used to become, a person that wasn't right, wasn't perfect or fit to be a perfect boy. I ruined it all within a matter of seconds, everything falling apart without me truly realizing it. I used to be like that guy, excited, touched and happy all the time.
I was just blinded, blinded by the fact that all I cared for was myself. My beating heart that stands today only exists because I've endured the pain that has ached for weeks, excruciating pain. It hurt seeing her with him, making me look back at my mistakes and understand that...
I can't ever be as good as him.
"Two Caramel Macchiatos." Brian called out from the counter as her head and his seemed to flick up immediately, standing up to grab their cups and smile at Brian before turning around and holding hands, walking out the door and into the cold winter air.
Both of us watched them walk out the door, their facial expression never changing one bit as I looked down at my cup and noticed the message written on the top of the lid that I haven't seen when I got it. It was Brian's handwriting, I could tell as the black ink was glossed on the cardboard top and in bold.
You lost her, didn't you?
I could only sigh loudly and stare at my own two feet from underneath the table, holding back the tears as the couple before frolicked outside before escaping past my view. They disappeared, never to come back the same direction and Brian's gaze turning towards me as he noticed my condition.
I wasn't okay, not at all. Everything has moved on, life moves on as well.
Mistakes are made and regrets aren't forgiven. It was one chance and it all went down the drain in a split second.
"Why... Why did it have to be me..." I mumbled, holding back my tears only to let a loose one fall down my burning cheeks and muttering to myself random words I couldn't even understand. Brian felt sorry, everyone was quiet like the cafe was before the two people came in.
One of them being a person I gave up on like rubbish.
I let go of her. I slipped her out of my arms as I didn't give her the same love as him. He is better than me and it hurts to know that I was wrong, I wasn't right for you and didn't change to make a difference.
My heart still beats for you, beats for a person that has already found something new, but this incurable scar will only learn to heal once I learn to love you properly again and understand that people will only do the same if they are treated the same.
I didn't do it.
I couldn't do it.
I let go of you.
Let you go out of my arms...
Letting you fall into another man's.
A man that wasn't me.

Previously on "Pure Desire": After a long time resisting the temptation of getting lost in each other's desires, Young K and Violet finally gave up their self-control and had their first time together, in a romantic candled light paradise. No more teasing or deprived touch, no more running away. They belonged to each other for that electrifying eternal moment. They were both playing with fire, and it was starting to be hard to tell if those flames were fueled with just attraction or true passion.

Chapter 7 - Hot Shower
Young K
Things had been a little chaotic lately. Since my cold was gone and I was back to work at full power, I barely had any alone time with Violet which was driving me crazy. All I could think about was her! It had been almost two weeks since our first time together and after that nothing really happened. Not because we didn’t want to, but because there was always someone home, or one of us had to work until late, or wake up early the next day and so on. Basically, life’s responsibilities and routine were getting in the way of our thing and we were living off occasional small hot kisses, hidden late cuddles, secretive glances filled with desire, and sweet texts. If it wasn’t for the texts, I would have even found it hard to talk with her. Honestly god, we were living in the same house! Why were things so difficult? I was guessing my schedule was the main problem, the members of DAY6 and I were working harder than ever and we had so many things to do that we barely had any free time, even at the weekends. But now I think there’s another factor causing this distance, I was just dying to have her in my arms again. I missed her.
But there I was, sitting on the couch in the living room because in the previous night I had almost invaded her bedroom and begged her to fuck me. The members were used to me sleeping on couches, they knew I found it more comfortable, so no one would really suspect that something was going on. The truth was that being on the same floor as she, was dangerous and because of the lack of Violet in my system, I was damn sure I would make her loud enough for the whole neighbourhood to know with all certainty she was mine, along with everyone else in the house. So, to avoid all the drama of getting caught, I took refuge downstairs.
It was 06:45 am and there was no way I would be able to go back to sleep, there was no point anyway. We had to leave the house by 8’oclock. Therefore, I slowly got up from the couch and walked upstairs to get some clothes from my shared room. When I walked in, I was surprised with the most adorable sleepy morning scene: as Jae and Sungjin were sleeping in their own bed, Dowoon and Wonpil were sharing the same one. Even though there were enough beds for all of us, they were fondly cuddling up against each other. The sound of the door closing behind me, made Dowoon tighten his arms around his precious Hyung making it almost seem like they were meant to fit together. I grabbed some clothes quietly and came closer to them, so I could take a picture to use it against them later on, I cursed at the sound of my phone’s camera but fortunately, the two cutie otters didn’t even move.
- What are you doing? – Sungjin deep sleepy voice startled me and I almost dropped my phone on their faces.
- Hey, sorry. Did I wake you up? – I asked whispering as Sungjin looked at the bed next to his and chuckled when he saw the sweet cuddle scene – Go back to sleep, you still have a few more minutes left.
- How are you awake… – he said between a yawn – You love to sleep… – he managed to pronounce before hugging his pillow and falling back asleep.
I left my bandmates to sleep and walked to the bathroom, I noticed Violet’s door was slightly open and an electric desire run through my body. Before I knew it, I was already heading towards her door, but I’m stopped by the quiet sound of her voice coming from the stairs behind me.
- Why did you wake me up meowing for food and then you barely ate, Clawsome? – She said as her voice got closer behind me and I was frozen at her door – Oh… hey. – she said in a sweet tone as she reached the first floor.
When I turned around to face her my heart almost exploded and jumped out of my chest. Her curls were a mess and so voluminous that I was jealous of her pillow for creating that instead of me, she was holding her cat against her chest and her cheeks were melted in a progressive darkened red shade as her eyes bounced from her door behind me and my eyes. When her deep teasing eyes travelled down to my lips, my Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily in a thirsty response for the expectant taste of her own. She leaned down and let her puffy black cat go, I leaned against the door jamb as she walked towards me and rested her hands on my chest. She kissed me softly and bit my lip, unconsciously provoking my morning wood to a new extent. Just as the clothes I was holding fell on the floor I grabbed her hips and pushed her back, so she couldn’t feel it. I thanked Clawsome for purring loud as she rubbed her cute snout against my leg and drove our attention to her, then, I used her as an excuse for my actions.
- Sorry, that was unexpected. Clawsome startled me for a second. – I said as I picked my clothes from the floor and patted my cute feline saviour on her head.
- It’s okay. – she said biting her lip into a smile – Morning.
- Morning, gorgeous. – I said leaning only my head to kiss her – I’m going to take a shower.
Violet nodded and waved at me smiling amused as I closed the bathroom door. I switched on the hot water and sighed as I took off my clothes. I think the mission of hiding my morning troubled friend wasn’t a big success since Violet seemed so entertained as she watched me flee to the shower. She could have a lot more fun if she joined me. “I should’ve suggested that”, I thought to myself as I got under the relaxing water and tried to calm myself down. I placed my forehead against the freezing tiles and led my hand desperately towards my erection. What the hell was wrong with me? Before, I kept pushing her around and teasing her so what was stopping me from doing it now? This girl was driving me insane, I really needed her. So, it was not only stupid but confusing that I actually run from her and ruined such a good opportunity to feel how good we are together. My breath started to become heavier than my heartbeat was as I stroked my dick up and down, wishing to relieve the pumping lust and despair locked at the end of my loins.
Suddenly, when I was close to free the imprisoned pleasure within, my body shifted when I felt a pair of tinny cold hands slid up my torso as I felt nipples rub against my back and boobs squeezed against my back.
- Violet… - I groaned.
She hugged me tightly from behind. I held my breath with the thrilling feeling her hand sent down my skin as she gradually let her hands travel towards my twitching member. Fighting against my own will, I grabbed her wrists up and pushed her against the cold wet tiles of the shower with a bit too much force. When I met her eyes, I became even more aroused, they were filled with a deep need and a burning desire. She missed me too. I sighed and rested my forehead against hers, letting her hands run through my wet hair. She could be doing something lewd, but her blushed cheeks didn’t lie, she was nervous and embarrassed. Yet, she built enough courage to meet me in the shower.
Violet looked amazingly beautiful under the running hot water and I was even jealous of the drops that caressed her smooth skin. I couldn’t take it any longer, I had been far too long away from her. All that time, I thought that I was the one pushing her boundaries and teasing her, but she was the brave one and who made me go crazy as I, without noticing, grew fonder of her.
I held her face in my hands and kissed her roughly and as deep as possible, satiating my hunger. My hand slid down on her body to squeeze her ass and made her moan into my mouth as my dick slid between her legs, making her jolt and part away from my lips.
- Wait, we don’t have time to go all the way. – she said trying to convince herself.
- It’s okay, princess. – I said kissing her tenderly – This is good enough. Should we take a shower? Since we’re here. – I asked moving my head, so the water fell directly to her face.
- But … – she tried to say as she rubbed the water from her eyes – We have enough time to take care of you. – she suggested in a whisper as she avoided my eyes.
My heart started to beat really fast as I stared at her, I didn’t even know what to think or how to decipher what she meant by those words exactly but luckily enough the lust burning inside me guided the way. I grabbed her chin up and made her face me before kissing her insecure lips, feeling her squeeze her legs tightly together as her reaction made me smirk between our kiss. I placed my hands against the wall cornering her as I explored her neck and bit her ear lobe.
- Then hurry up and take care of me, princess… - I groaned into her ear and felt her shiver under my touch.
Violet teased my chest with her soft touch as she drew circles with her finger on my skin, whereas I stood petrified with the sensations she created within me, I was mesmerized and drowning in the feeling that burst from my heart that made me vulnerable and marked me as hers. Her hands went lower provoking my dick to flinch as it hardened more with the expectation of her direct touch. Violet’s hand travelled down to my length and I leaned against her shoulders as I supported myself with my hands on the slippery tiles behind her, I remembered very well when she jerked me off in her bedroom. It wasn’t as good as having real sex with her, but I couldn’t ask for more than her talented hands on my thick member at that moment. And after having those thoughts, I suddenly lost all my logic and sense when I felt her lips kissing down my belly as she got down on her knees. I grabbed her by her hair and made her look up which was a huge mistake, since seeing her grab my dick with her hand and suck my balls as her eyes locked with mine made me even more excited, making the frenetic sensation of finally being touched double in its intensity.
- Fuck. – I chocked instead of telling her she didn’t need to do it as I grabbed her hair and tried to unsurely stop her.
- We’ll do that later. – Violet said teasingly in a shy smile, I saw her thinking carefully about her words as she tried to decipher my expression – I miss you so much that I’m okay with just touching you. Believe me.
I sighed and smirked in agreement with my chest filled with a fluttered wonderful feeling. I eased my grip on her hair and started playing with it. Violet licked her tender lips and then proceeded to direct her full attention to my boner. She generously played with her tongue on my tip making me tremble, she sucked on the head making my legs nearly give out.
She started taking my full length in her mouth slowly making me curse to heavens as I tried my hardest to keep my groans low, her mouth sucked me up and down sending shivers all over my body. I couldn’t even keep my eyes open as the vibrant tension within my sex was too much for me to take, I knew I wouldn’t last long so I gave up on suppressing my desires and let her sink me in pleasure as my head fell back under the running hot water. The obscene sounds her mouth made muffled under the heavy shower, but they were still loud enough to drive me insane with her erotic symphony as her head bobbed on my dick. Violet sucked me hard and deep before replacing her hot mouth with the tight grip of one of her hands so she could catch up her breath, but the wet snapping noise of her tongue leaving my cock was too lewdly stimulating and without noticing I grabbed her head firmly and shoved my whole length deep down her throat to watch her gag with the sudden invasion. I groaned so low my voice merely disappeared into a whispered cracking moan. Her eyes were vigorously shut, her cheeks were extremely red and probably not just because of the burning steam that was surrounding us. As the frenetic ecstasy teased my body and it run down to my huge member, I felt the pressure building up and threatening to explode.
- Oh fuck… - I groaned in a low whisper as the overwhelming load of pleasure rushing through my body tormented me at the edge of releasing – That’s enou…
Violet didn’t even bother to look at me, she grabbed my hip with one hand and stroke me with the other as she kept sucking, creating that hot white colour behind my eyelids, and so, I let her take me to wherever she wanted. With an electrifying shiver and with all the blood rush heading at full force towards the end of my loins, Violet kept sucking me hard as I desperately pulled her hair back barely holding myself from thrusting into her mouth again, I felt my shaft twitch inside her mouth and uncontrollably released all the load and desire deep inside her throat making her choke deeply and let out surprised lewd moans muffled with the cum inside her mouth.
Still struck from the massive orgasm and trembling from her heated touch, in alarm I leaned down and held her chin up. “Oh, I’m fucked.” I thought to myself watching her puffy red lips expand in a wide smile and just with that my heart begged for mercy.
I watched Violet closely while I was trying to control my heavy breathing. The way she tasted her lips with her curious tongue made my heart violently skip and that’s when it hit me. I kneeled to look her in the eyes with the sudden realization and brushed my thumb on her lower lip. “Did she swallow…”
- Did you…? – I tried to ask but her proud flustered eyes made me nervously laugh and bury my face on her shoulder to kiss her neck, an action that’s starting to be a habit, dangerous.
- It’s not like you gave me much choice, anyway. You were grabbing my hair so roughly. – Violet said with her voice slurred slightly – You’re delicious. – she giggled into my ear.
I grabbed her by her ass and lift her up against the shower wall abruptly, she arched her back as the cold invaded her skin and moaned with the sudden pressure of my body against hers. I kissed her passionately trying to wash my own taste off her mouth, so I could taste her captivating sweet unique flavour.
- God, I love… – I said interrupting our kiss as I looked into her eyes and gasped at what I almost said – Your lips. – I pecked her, again, again and again trying to cover up for my words – Those damn lips.
I put her down and hugged her naked body tightly against mine, not being sure if the accelerated heart I was feeling was mine or hers. I stepped back and kissed her forehead before reaching for the shower gel and when I was about to wash her body she shoved my hand against her head.
- No way! That’s too embarrassing. My hands work just fine, I can wash myself. – Violet said as her face turned into a tomato.
- I know your hands work damn fine, don’t worry. – I said trying to approach her once again.
- Just the hair then. No touching any other parts. – she replied scream whispering, making me look down to her lower body knowing fully well what she was trying to hide between her squeezed legs.
Showering wasn’t an easy task, especially because we had to hurry up so we wouldn’t get caught. “Washing” wasn’t the right term, but “foam fight” was the most accurate expression to describe our shower. We finally stepped out of the shower and as we dried our skin a loud voice outside the bathroom door surprised us and made our hearts stopped.
- Hyung! – Dowoon said in a nervous explosive voice from outside.
- Yes, Dowoon? – I said as I covered Violet’s body with her towel and reached for my phone to check the time, it was still 07:10 am so I sighted relived – Do you need to use the bathroom, Dowoon? I’m almost done.
- Oh… oh… hmm no! No! I’ll use the other toilet downstairs Hyung. I was just… just checking if this one was free.
When I looked back, Violet was already half-dressed and ready to flee at any moment, she shoved her towels in the basket, so it would be easier to sprint out of the bathroom. I watched her closely as she dressed the rest of her clothes, couldn’t help but bite my lips and laugh while her body struggled to get inside her hoodie. Our eyes met and Violet punched my biceps for mocking her. I wrapped a towel around my hips to avoid her fake anger moves and opened the door slightly to check if there was anyone outside. I winked at her and she stole a small kiss from my lips before rushing downstairs.
After getting dressed and finishing my skincare routine, I walked out of the bathroom and went to our shared room to see Sungjin lying on his sides posing with one of the weirdest facial expressions I have ever seen him do.
- Bro, you’re screaming “Paint me like one of your French girls”. – Jae said as he took some pictures of the incredible moment.
- Damn, you look so beautiful today. – Young K teased the leader with actual honest words.
- Oh, you’re out! My turn! – Jae and Sungjin said at the same time rushing to the toilet as they left me in the empty room.
I grabbed my things and walked downstairs, Violet was sitting on the sofa looking at some papers Kim Joon (little bro) gave her, probably some English homework, they both greeted me good morning before I headed for the kitchen. Pretending I hadn’t seen her today, yet, that was rather harder than I thought it was going to be, I could feel my grin forming and my heart threating to jump from my chest as I sat down to eat breakfast.

--------------
“I need to go out there again.”
Mr. Kim's eyes widened in surprise. He couldn't allow the prince to go out there again. Word of his escape had reached many kingdoms across the world already. Of he went out again, it would not be good for the prince, even if his intentions were not bad.
“I'm sorry, your majesty, but the king has made it clear that you shall never sneak out again. However, I do have to thank you for not exposing the secret tunnel, for if you did, I would never be able to see my wife and son.” Mr. Kim smoothed the prince's white shirt.
“You don't need to thank me. I'm the one who needs to thank you for letting me use the passage...” Seokmin was feeling guilty for having his most trusted servant, who was like a friend, go through hard times because of him.
After Seokmin returned to the kingdom on his own, Mr. Kim was put into confinement for a few days as punishment for not watching the prince well enough and allowing him to escape. Less than 4 days later, he was released because Seokmin told the king bravely for the millionth time that he'd take full responsibility.
That's how Seokmin got locked up for two weeks that went by like a year.
When he was locked up, he finally realized that the scenario he was in (being locked up) was the best he could get at if he wanted to feel what it was like to live like you.
The king found it too hard to watch his son being behind bars. The original punishment would be to have food portions and clothing reduced, have hands bound by chains, and ankles strapped to the bed. Seokmin wanted to know the worse of it; that was the only way he could think of to be able to understand you. However, the king always insisted on only having his leg bound; Seokmin was still given nice meals and sufficient clothing.
While in the cold stone prison underground with barely any light flowing in and only a small window the size of his head, Seokmin thought a lot about you. As the winter days passed he found his heart aching, maybe missing that short time he spent with you. He was eager to go out again, even if he was barefoot. He wanted to see if you were still living in that barely warm enough, tiny shack in the middle of the woods. He wondered if you were still stealing bread to survive. He wanted to see you again. Despite the time having been short, there was a small spark inside his chest from the memories that aroused the desire of wanting to see you again. Most of all, he wanted to ask why you didn't come with him to turn him in.
To fight the boredom inside the cell, Seokmin sang songs. He would make up lyrics about his wretching heart, about the poverty he witnessed, about the person he met while out there, about love.
Some days, his singing would echo through the castle and his younger brother, Seungkwan, would make his way down to sing a duet. Some days, Seungkwan would invite Jihoon, Jisoo, and Jeonghan to come along and sing as well. The five singing brothers would make songs in secret and sing happily, with smiles spread across their faces, without the king knowing.
On the day before his release, the king came to visit him in his lonely prison that smelled only of stone.
“Seokmin,” the king said, his voice gentle. “How did you escape without Mr. Kim knowing?”
“I stole his son's clothes and climbed over the grape vines at the back of the castle. I gave him one of the sleeping pills I acquired from the doctor when he came to visit Seungcheol. He fell asleep and I left.” The story was packed with lies.
“Okay, then why did you leave the castle while knowing the dangers out there? What made you think you should?”
“I realized one day that I don't see enough of the kingdom I am a prince of. I wanted to see the world and what it's like. Venturing with Seungcheol on horses only gave me a glimpse.”
The king stayed quiet so the son continued.
“Do you know what kind of world you're ruling?” Seokmin turned to his father and glared at him daringly. The king was surprised to find his son's new nature but at the same time, he wasn't. “There are people out there who are barely living lives. We have this whole kingdom filled with flourish yet while out there, can you guess what I saw and experienced, dad?”
Another bit of silence passed by.
“I saw them. They were poor. Not only that but because they were poor, everyone immediately assumed they were bad people, and they have no choice but to be bad. They barely have any to eat, the place they sleep is colder than this cell!” For the first time, Seokmin had exploded in anger in front of his father. “This is the world you have been keeping from us!”
“Seokmin, you are too naive,” The king said simply. “What do you think you saw? A piece of your kingdom or your whole kingdom?”
The king let out a sigh and pressed his face against the iron bars that seperated him and his son. Seokmin was sitting on the bed, his anger dissipated.
“What I, as a king need to do is focus on the majority of people, do you get that? There will be people who are unfortunate, that's just how life is, a balance between lucky and unlucky. Do you know why people die?”
“‘To bring equality to life,’” Seokmin recited. He remembered that line well because that was what his father always said.
“Among the rich, there is also poor. There is simply nothing you can do about it. Some people are born poor and some make mistakes in life and become poor, just like how some people are rich and some become rich. Are you going to show sympathy for every peasant in your kingdom?” The king placed one hand on the bars of iron. “I told you, a king does not need love but he can't have hatred. A king does not need to be generous and sympathetic but he should be feared and wise. You are not fit for a king.”
“I don't care about being a king,” Seokmin snapped, getting up from the bed with his fists tightly closed. “I don't want to become one. I know I'm not someone who is fit for it. I just know that I don't want my kingdom scattered and innocent people being looked down on just because of their class. You can be a ruthless soul but I cannot because I have a heart. I just want to help those people. When I do, I know I'll be a better person than the king who overlooks it.”
The king just shook his head and with his hands brought behind his back, he quietly turned away from the cell. There was no guilt anymore for he had seen it from the beginning.
It was hard to be a king but it was even harder in the beginning.
-
Seokmin felt bad for Mr. Kim. He felt that he was putting Mr. Kim in danger but he had to get back out there. He didn't want to be trapped in his own home anymore. He wanted to see you too.
So, when Mr. Kim fell asleep, Seokmin did not hesitate to leave. He changed into a fresh pair of silky clothing and grabbed a backpack, packing clothing, new shoes, a first-aid kit, food from the kitchen, and money. He didn't really know what he was doing anymore and why he was doing it but there was just a calling or a ringing, inside his chest, asking for him to pick up.
It was dawn when he left through the secret passageway. He emerged from the ground and he could see the bricks of the townhouses. Seokmin made his way over there and tried to trace his steps from 2 weeks ago. If there was any place he'd find you, it'd be the shack.
The sun was rising beautifully, painting red across the sky as Seokmin walked through the park with the cobblestone bridge and river of koi fish. He recalled the memories he made with you and that made his heart flutter, his hands grip onto the straps of his backpack, and his mouth grin shyly.
After passing a field of green, he was approaching the rocks that blocked the river water passage. He hadn't reached the location yet but remembered hopping upon each one like a frog, skipping on the stones with you.
When he passed the flower fields and came across the gigantic rocks, he smiled. It was you, swinging your feet back and forth, the back of your heel hitting the stone and then the tip of your old raggedy shoes getting drenched. You were humming.
“Y/N,” Seokmin called out. His heart was racing, just the sight of you made him want to go crazy and run around the fields like a loose puppy. He had been waiting for this moment when you two would see each other again.
He took a few more steps but your voice snapping caught him off guard. “Stop, don't come.”
“What?” Seokmin wondered out loud. For the first time in 2 weeks, he escaped and managed to find you again but the first thing you said was for him to not approach you? Of course, Seokmin knew that you probably weren't aware of his feelings, but still, he felt a bit disappointed. “W-Why?”
“Just because.”
-
When Seokmin returned to the castle by himself, you stayed at the shack, deep in thought. Though getting the reward would have made your life much easier, you couldn't find the bravery to accept the offer, which was ridiculous because you had always been known for your bravery. It was something hard to explain.
As days passed by, Seokmin never returned. You never heard or saw him but at times you'd catch wind of gossip and overheard from the silk weavers that he was placed in a large cell. You felt bad for him while not knowing why.
You felt regret for not taking the money too but it was like convincing yourself you lied when you told the truth. If the choice was given again, you knew deep down that no matter how much you needed the money, you wouldn't take it.
The stash of food stolen from peasants was growing low. As the winter days grew colder, it was much harder to find food while your body grew numb and closer to freezing. There was always one place warm with food; the bakery.
You got a few loaves, enough for the young children for a few days, even if it costed a slash on your arm and deep scratch on your cheek. Your brother could not steal from the hospital and no one had the money to pay for bills. Out of luck, his four fingers wrapped a cloth around your arm and face. It was quite uncomfortable.
You spent many days waking up at dawn. You didn't quite know why. Some days it'd be midnight rising and some days it would be dawn sleeping. You just kept thinking early in the dawn or late into the night about life, about peasants, about the kingdom, the king, and his 8th son, Seokmin.
You didn't expect to see or hear Seokmin, a prince, again. When he did show up, it was when you had an ugly and prominent cut across your face and bleeding arm that was too numb for stinging pain. You didn't want him to see you even if you badly wanted to turn to face him and look into those glittery puppy eyes and catch his lovely smile again.
“Is something wrong?” Seokmin asked after a moment of silence with only the sound of river running passing through. “I came because I—I wanted to see you. I also wanted to know more... about your world. I also have a lot of things I wanted to tell and ask you.”
You smiled. Hearing his voice was like listening to a comforting melody. “Why would you though? There's nothing here to see.”
“No, there is. You showed me so many things the last time we met and I want to know more. I want to know how I can help and what I can do for you.” Seokmin took a step forward and inch by inch, he was getting closer to you without you knowing. You just continued to stare blankly at the river that seemed endless looking like you were about to cry.
“You know, after meeting you that day and having you disappear for two weeks, I thought I'd forget about you already. I thought that meeting you wasn't that big of a deal but every day and night, I kept thinking about you—your life and mine,” You didn't know why the tells were welling. “I really can't understand anything.”
Seokmin had closed the distance while you buried yourself in your hands. His heart was drumming, not with flutters, but with ache.
“I just want to know why, what did I do to deserve such a life as this when everyone is living perfectly fine? I've tried before, to get a job, work and learn, but they all said the same thing: ‘you bring bad luck’, ‘the customers don't like you’, ‘you don't know how to do anything right, must be because you're a peasant’.”
Your words were muffled and for the first time, you could feel the pain in your arm as your raised it to cover your eyes. Seokmin had sat down next to you, on the big cold gray rock.
“I'm sorry for all that you had to go through,” Seokmin said quietly. “I want to change it. I want to know how to effectively change your life and the people who depend on you and that shack. My dad isn't giving in to any of it though.”
“It's not his fault,” You continued, sniffling as the tears dried against your palm, letting out a soft groan of pain. “It's just how the world is.”
When your face emerged from your palms, you could see his feet, dangling next to yours. His pants were of fabric you'd never seen before. His shoes were leather and neat and shiny.
Your eyes traveled to his shirt, white without creases, his sleeves folded to his elbows, decorated with buttons down the middle. Inside wasn't a feeling of envy, you just felt terrible inside, wondering what it'd feel like if you could see your brother wear something like that; so graceful, matching his figure.
Eventually, your eyes went from his neck, chin, lips, nose, and eyes, where your gazes locked. His eyes were shimmering a golden brown in the sunrise but without it would be brown like chestnuts.
Seokmin's eyes darted away after a few seconds. He shrieked with panic after seeing the scratch on your face that had yet to be fully healed. Your arm had cold blood trickling down to your fingertips.
“Y/N!” He grabbed your face gently with his warm and soft hands, his caring touch and warmth spreading all throughout your body. You felt the strength to smile. “Are you okay?”
You nodded and proceeded to explain that it was just a small scratch from the baker. “Even if I die, I can't let the kids die. Even if they grow up with no progress in becoming something more than a peasant, like me, I know one day at least one of their worlds will be changed. That's like saving a soul.”
His thumb caressed your cheek and his eyes were sad with tears. You were slightly confused as to why he was beginning to cry.
The blood soaked into your shirt and Seokmin had to notice it. He didn't scold you or anything, just, while holding your hand, took out a white box from his backpack and told you to stay still. He applied cleaned the wound on your arm, applied ointment on it, and bandaged it, all while crying softly.
You had to wipe his tears from time to time.
After he finished treating your wounds, he closed the box and put it away, saying quickly, “I knew I should have brought this first-aid kit.”
Seeing those drops of water come from his eyes made you feel like your heart had been stabbed deeply.
He pulled you into a warm, tight hug, whispering about how glad he was to see you again. It had been a while since someone hugged you that hard, like they were never going to let go.
It was a different kind of pain, seeing Seokmin cry.

Seokmin wanted to know your favorite place in the world so you took him to the butterfly haven. A luxurious field of only nearly dead dandelions, a few trees, grass, and tons and tons of butterflies. You could see the butterflies from far away, they swarmed the field like bees in a hive. The place was popular on weekends but not on weekdays, the walk to get there was way too long.
“Why do you like this place?” Seokmin asked, while picking a dandelion. The fragile butterflies fluttered their wings, flying from one side to the opposite, circling around flowers and the two of you.
“It's the prettiest thing I've ever seen.” You replied with a smile, trying to refrain from scratching your arm wound. “I don't see many beautiful things. It's also one of those places that continue to bloom instead of dying. It's already the beginning of winter but look at these dandelions and butterflies.”
Seokmin smiled while seeing you smile. It was crazy because butterflies should have already began migration.
“You know, there's something crazy about how we're looking at each other right now,” Seokmin said out of the blue. Your eyes were on each other.
“What's crazy about it?” You asked.
“I don't know how to say.” He looked away.
You laughed and the two of you leaned against one of the smaller trees, looking at the butterflies. You told him stories of your childhood and he laughed along to your humor. Seokmin told you about the lack of butterflies in the castle, that only a few would fly above the wall and wander around for a bit during the floral season.
Gazing at clouds was a new kind of activity for Seokmin. You told him that you often would stare into the sky and test your imagination, trying to figure out what each unique and absurd cloud shape could be if it were an object. Seokmin also found that activity fun.
Maybe everything with you was fun, especially when you were looking at him, making him feel free like a soaring eagle, and happy.
You introduced Seokmin to a game that the peasants played whenever they were bored. The children of the shack taught you it. It was a simple game; pluck a leaf from a tree and try to break it into as many pieces as you could. Seokmin found the game frustrating as the pieces he broke off of the leaf would blow with the wind. He lost every game and applauded the children for playing such a game.
Seokmin had packed food inside his backpack and said he wanted to share it with you. You refused at first but eventually caved in. It was the best meal you've ever had, or rather, the first meal you've ever had. There were side dishes, rice, and a main dish. You felt the urge to devour it all but decided not to because you wanted to share.
“I think this is the least prince-like I've been,” Seokmin said as you two watched the sun disappear behind a hill. It was kind of hard to believe you two spent your entire day walking and in a dandelion field of butterflies. “I really love it.”
“What do you mean by ‘prince-like’?” You asked.
The two of you were crisscrossed, sitting on the grass.
“Elegant, brave, intelligent, and obeying but also strong enough to make their own decisions.”
“I think you're like a prince,” You smiled at him and Seokmin smiled back at you. “But most of all, you just remind me of a human.”
“Of course,” Seokmin wanted to hold your hand but decided against it. “I am a human.”
“Do you have a dream?” You asked suddenly, plucking a dandelion. They always looked so furry and like little white pom poms but the one you picked was slightly brown and more crunchy than soft.
“I want to sing.”
“Then sing for me.”
That's how you met the voice of heaven from the mouth of an angel.
-
After finding out that Seokmin had left, Mr. Kim reported it to military leader Seungcheol, who informed the king. Seungcheol advised a search for the runaway prince.
“It's only been two weeks since Seokmin's first runaway,” Seungcheol said, looking up at his father who was sitting on the diamond throne. “He can be in grave danger. Seokmin is not well knowledgeable regarding the area and he can easily pass the border into the kingdom of Ruqy or Mez.”
“Seungcheol-ah,” his father began, his fingers tapping on the chair of the throne. “What do you think I should do regarding the peasants? It's not a large problem yet but I don't want it to be one in the future. As the oldest son, what do you think we, the kingdom, should do?”
Seungcheol stayed quiet for a minute. “I talked to Wonwoo about this. He said that ‘a king who neglects a fraction of his kingdom is not a king... the generosity and will of giving is a future threat as it is impossible to do and be perfectly both, thus, one shall never be too kind’.”
The king smiled fatherly at his son but did not say anything further until his sigh broke the silence.
“Let's find Seokmin. I want to talk to him.”
-
Walking back to the shack was going to take a while considering the time you and Seokmin departed the butterfly haven. It was already dark but thankfully, the path was lit by tall street lamps.
Seokmin said that his brother, Jisoo, who recently came back from dealing with an overseas alliance, was the one who suggested lighting up singular dirt paths like the one you two were walking on; he even made the design for the street lamp.
“I know it's a bit late to say this,” You said quietly, your feet and his rubbing against the dirt pavement. “But I'm sorry for what I said two weeks ago, before you told me to turn you in. It's crazy, we've technically only known each other for two days, but I feel such a large connection with you.”
“My brother Myungho told me that if you think about someone a lot and they're on your mind often, it feels like you spent time with them when you were just reminiscing,” Seokmin said. The mention of his brothers made him faintly smile. He loved his brothers with all of his heart but he felt bad for escaping the castle and hiding within his own kingdom.
“I guess—well, I did think about you a lot if I'm honest.”
“I thought about you too,” Seokmin tried to say it confidently but ended up getting embarrassed and shy. He hit himself at the side of his head and looked down as his ears turned bright red like a strawberry.
“Look,” you said quietly, coming to a stop in the middle of the empty dirt path. Your head turned to face the sky, you smiled, seeing the millions of stars brightening up the black. “Look at the stars, Seokmin.”
Seokmin lifted his head and was amazed when he saw the stars. They were just simply dazzling, each one of them.
“Now, I suddenly feel the want to make a wish.”
Seokmin smiled and turned to see you already with your eyes closed.
“Then, let's make a wish.”
He didn't look at the stars nor put his hands in a praying gesture. He just couldn't take his eyes off you. The only wishes he could come up with did not include singing or his kingdom. His mind just kept repeating one wish inside his head, ‘Y/N, Y/N, Y/N’.
“Seokmin, what did you wish for?” You asked, opening your eyes slowly. You didn't stop looking at the stars though.
“How about you go first?”
“To sleep better. For the past two weeks, my sleep schedule has been fucked up. Now, how about you?” The wind gave a slight chill.
“I don't know,” Seokmin replied honestly. At that answer, you turned to him with an amused and attractive half-smile. “I just kept thinking of how beautiful you look.”
“Seokmin—”
“I really like it when you call my name. The only people who do that are my brothers and my parents.”
You chuckled and looked at him in the eyes. “We've known each other for two days.”
“Yeah,” Seokmin grinned, his smile so dreamy that it made your heart melt. Your heart could only jump afterwards because Seokmin continued and said, “but we've been thinking about each other for two weeks.”
“I like that you've become more confident, you barely stutter anymore.”
“I also like that you smile a lot more,” Seokmin said, smiling with his hands shyly on his backpack straps.
Both of you laughed as each star in the sky twinkled.
Seokmin had never seen anyone shine as bright as you.
“Seokmin hyung! It's you, isn't it!?” The calling was from the side of the dirt path the two of you were heading. It was Chan's voice.
The clicking sound of horse hooves grew cleared and Seokmin knew he wasn't going to run away. You just watched in awe as the horse grew closer. It was Seokmin's horse that Chan was riding on.
“Chan...” Seokmin let out very quietly.
“So you were here! And you're with—” Chan stopped his sentence and hopped off his horse. There were three other soldiers on horses that followed behind Chan. “Dad wants to talk to you. Please stop leaving home without any notice, we were all so worried about you!”
Seokmin apologized quietly but quickly glanced at you, who was just staring back at Seokmin.
“Hurry, get on your horse,” Chan said, mumbling how much he was worried for his brother.
“Wait,” Seokmin said slowly. “This is Y/N and I'm taking them too. It's a long way back, you see.”
Chan nodded in agreement and quickly swapped places with one of the soldiers as they joined a different soldier. You were reluctant to get on the horse but Seokmin assured you that it was his horse who knew him better than any other animal.
You took his backpack around your back, took his hand, and boarded the horse and wrapped your arms around his waist hesitantly.
“It'll be a bit weird at first, but don't worry, I'll try to make it a comfortable jog.”
-
The king was smiling when Seokmin entered the throne room.
“Who did you bring with you?”
“The person who showed me the world,” Seokmin smiled at his father for a short second. He was in a surprisingly great mood but knew that he also did something bad. “I'm sorry for leaving the kingdom again.”
“No, it's fine, I just wanted to talk,” Seokmin's father said with a smile. The king was also in a surprisingly great mood. “You do know that I became the king of Svuentin at age 17, right, son?”
Seokmin nodded.
“At 17, I was still like a kid inside but I was forced to be mature. I had to take care of my kingdom. Anybody could have killed me, I was just a kid. I learned to fight, read, and learned from textbooks. I was focused on being a good king by learning to be good at everything; nobody could possibly hate me if I were a perfectionist.”
Seokmin's father took a quick sip of water from an expensive mug.
“That is not the way for me to rule. I, thankfully, recognized the faults in my kingdom. The fault was not just me but my people, they were uncontrollable. Some babies were born without enough milk or warmth during the winters but some were born with so much milk they grow chubby, so much warmth they grow sick of it. Seokmin, my son, you reminded me so much of myself, you know that?”
Seokmin blinked. His hands were clasped together respectively. He was drawn into his father's story.
“And of course, it's not easy being a king. I realized that there were people who didn't get enough though they deserved more and people who got too much yet didn't deserve that much. I tried to change it and I had a few ideas; build houses for them and give them money; give them food and offer them a job in the army...”
The king paused. “I wanted to help them in any way that I could. I was guilty, as a king, because a part of me knew that my people were not living nice lives and that I was partially responsible for it. I was feeling pity because I couldn't do anything effective. In the end, I just avoided it. When it did come up again, I let it go.”
Seokmin wanted to talk but found himself silenced, also wanting to hear more.
“Do you know what your grandfather told me?” The king sighed. “that a good king will be good because of their length of rule. But, I don't think that's true. For the past 50 years I have been king, I just simply kept our world going, but does that make me a good king? That's why I am going to change and relieve my guilt with the help of you, my son.”
Seokmin found himself smiling.
“I'll open free schools and libraries. I'll tell people the consequences of beating other people, no matter what class. I'll try my best to include that part of my society that was segregated. I'm going to try again to fix the problem. That's alI have to confess to you, son.”
Seokmin walked closer to the throne with a slight smile, his eyes down.
“I have something to confess too,” Seokmin said quietly. “the person I brought with me... I think I—”
“If you're worried about the arranged marriage I was going to have you do, don't worry about it.”
“What?”
The king chuckled at his flustered son. “That's right, though I'm not sure you were aware. I was going to have you marry the princess that Jisoo met overseas, but I think the doctor should be done treating your person. Their arm wound was pretty harsh. Why don't you go take a look?”
“R-really?” At this, Seokmin was gleefully smiling.
“Yes, punk. 12 out of 13 times arranged marriages don't work anyway.”

This is a remastered version of an old post which I am making because of the previous events which took place
Why I love Day6
Firstly, before I was a kpop fan, I actually used to be into rock music, I was a closeted emo (closeted because I never got to dress like one) and used to be a huge fan of bands such as My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, and sometimes listened to Evanescence, Panic! At the Disco, Hoobastank, Green Day. While I did realise that after getting into kpop, my taste in music had gotten wider, deep down, I still had an undying love for rock music, especially Alternative Rock, pop punk and pop rock songs. Day6 being a band who makes songs on the music genres I had just mentioned here had brought back my love for rock music and helped me to reconnect with my old self.
Secondly, they had helped me throughout the rollercoaster 2020 was for me and is still helping me as I am at the beginning of a new phase of my life as someone who is soon entering into adulthood, their music has been a safe space for me, I do admit there had been times when I did not like listening to their sad songs because of how well they reasonated with me, for instance I used to hate Zombie because it reasonated with my chronic lack of motivation, my aimlessness and my not so healthy lifestyle which involved spending on my phone for excessive hours and often staying up all night, it used to remind me of how miserable and haggardly I have become and I still am, however as the time passed, I started to find comfort in the song, I started liking the satisfying feeling the drum beats in the intro gave me, the monotonous voices of the members, and finally the carthartic feeling the lyrics gave me. Not just Zombie, many other songs such as I Would, I'll Remember, Not Fine, You Were Beautiful, reminded me of people I had parted away from, while songs such as Best Part filled me with optimism, songs such as Where The Sea Sleeps, Thanks to, are something I would sing to the people I treasure the most, finally When You Love Someone reminds me of the guy whom I had at secretly loved (platonically) and always wanted to comfort him.
I have gradually grown fond of the members and my heart is full of love for them.
Tumblr media
I cant help but appreciate how much he cares for the members, Sungjin initially did not have his signature growly voice we know him for, he actually changed his singing style so that he can blend well with the band's music, also finally lets not forget why he did not announce his enlistment before, he did not want us to feel sad about it (as he was aware of the fact that enlistment is a sensitive subject to the fans)
Tumblr media
Youngk, one of the main geniuses behind almost every Day6 songs, I really love the fact that while his songs does tend to have a lot of metaphors, they are still in fact understandable, which makes it more relatable thus helping more people to connect to Day6 music especially for someone like me who often finds it hard to decipher metaphors.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Wonpil I really love how his optimism is not unbridled, which keeps it from sounding toxic and that actually makes it comforting for me. Besides that, just like how I appreciate Youngk's artistry as a songwriter in the same manner I appreciate Wonpil's songwriting skills as well. When it comes to Wonpil's songwriting I really like how he is as honest as he can get with his feelings.
Tumblr media
Dowoon means a lot to me, I actually kind of relate to his struggles with his self esteem regarding his skills. I usually don't like having a role model but, I do look up to Dowoon for some of his aspects. He reminds me of the proverbial tortoise from the infamous fable of the Hare and Tortoise, just like the tortoise, he is persistent in his art, irrespective of the circumstances, he is slowly and steadily getting there.
