In Hyrule Warriors there's a weapon for Toon Link, the Sand Wand. Naturally this is an item from a Zelda game, and one that I recognize and remember using, but I couldn't quite remember which one; Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, or Link Between Worlds? I've played all of them, but it's been years. However, I DID remember that the sand wand raises up square blocks of sand, in a fixed grid. Link Between Worlds uses a fixed grid with its ice wand item, and I distinctly remember the sand wand having a similar highlight preview of what blocks will be raised when you use it. I also remembered it raising a straight line of blocks in front of you, in strict orthogonal directions, which is exactly how Link Between Worlds' item controls work, and very much NOT how Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks' controls work.
But I'm not sure. So I google the sand wand to check and... it's from Spirit Tracks? And its control scheme is completely different from what I remember..?
I google the list of items in Link Between Worlds, and find the sand ROD. Apparently it's in BOTH games with a slightly different name and controls. So that's why I couldn't remember which one it was in.

No masters or kings when the ritual begins
The shackles sing as Loki walks towards the throne, fighting back a grin. Odin, on the other hand, sits on his high quality chair, believing to be intimidating.
"You have committed a grave crime against the-" Odin tries to speak, but Loki chuckles.
"I know what I have done, Odin. No need to repeat yourself," they interrupt, using a voice they've been hiding in their throat since they learned how to speak.
And it has so much to say…
"Has your mother taught you no respect for your king?" They yell, their favourite way of speaking to Loki. In all these years, Loki cowarded away at this voice, scared of a physical expression of the anger. This time, he laughs at it.
"Not my mother, and I have no king but myself," they smile, watching a new wave of anger flashing in the old charlatan's face.
"Silence! You never knew how to shut this mouth of yours!" Odin raises his voice, hoping to see the now natural cowering of Loki. The only answer is another laugh.
"Do you really want me to start speaking, Odin? To see who is truly guilty, with all these good dicks and whores listening?" Loki asks, a glow in his eyes as he gestures around as wide as the shackles allow. The harshness of their tongue makes the nobles who watch the "trial" gasp.
"Who taught you this language?" The old man spits, narrowing one eye.
"Apart from your anger? And that old warrior you ordered to teach Thor and me how to survive in a forest? And there are the guards, I can name a few but stitching is a worse crime than murder…" he mutters, acting if like he's chatting with a cup of tea other than being on a trial for murder.
There's no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
"Enough with your games! Why did you murder Lord Gæirasson in cold blood?" Odin asks the "big question", as if the right answer will lift the charges from Loki's name.
"Because… one, because he was a racist and offended me, to which the punishment is death. Two, because he started a war-"
"You started a war, Loki," Thor interrupts, taking Odin's side, like every time.
"A war had been started. Let's not blame people, Thor. Now where were I? Oh, yeah, at how Gæirasson started a war. Also, he refused to pay his taxes and you know how seriously I took my responsibility of being in charge of the palace's finances. Did war crimes against my people, father would be proud the son of a bitch is dead. And lastly, but definitely not least, a dreadful sense of fashion. Have you seen what his grooms wear? I think I threw up in my mouth when I saw it…" they finish with the rumbling, not even thinking of answering seriously. Odin will execute him anyways, would some fun be so bad?
"I said, enough with the games!" Odin basically screeches, their face going red.
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
"For the murder of a lord, cause of a war and disrespect towards the throne, I Odin Allfather sentence you to a life in the dungeons," he decides.
"Dungeons? Not axe? Did Frigga's ghost or this moron talk you out of killing me?" Loki questions, taking their turn to narrow their eyes.
"If you keep talking, I might change my mind," Odin sighs, rubbing his temple.
"And get rid of this perfect pawn to hold King Laufey from the balls? A shame, really," Loki poutes and shrugs, pretending awfully that he cares.
"I will not stand your disrespect any longer! I had granted you your life, Loki, more than once! You will learn to respect me for it! Take them to the dungeons!" Odin speaks the final order. Four guards grab the chains that lead to Loki's shackles and push him away, forcing him to walk with them
Only then I am human / only then I am free
On the way to the dungeons, Thor stops the guards and demands to speak to Loki.
"Just tell me why, brother. Please. What didn't we give you to make you care so little?" they ask, grabbing Loki's shoulder, just like they always used to do.
"A family. That's what you didn't give me. And that's what I've earned," Loki answers, staring right into his no-brother's eyes, the blue in them and the pale lines that resemble his lightning. They know they won't see Thor from this close ever again, and they deserve a proper last memory.
"Then, I'm sorry. It's late, I know, but remember this, please… I shall visit, whenever I can, Loki. I swear. You shouldn't be in prison all alone," Thor promises. Loki gives only a nod, enough to make Thor dismiss the guards and let them keep walking Loki to his future and last chamber.
The only sign of emotions they allow themselves to show is a sigh, only out of sympathy.
For he knows that his freedom just begins.
Take me to church / I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
The moment the guards put Loki back into the white vacant cell and take their eyes off them, they cast an illusion of them settling on the floor and staring at nothing. The real Loki is walking up and down the room, waiting for the Tesseract to speak.
"Now?" he asks, feeling it close.
"Now, you need to learn who your family is. Not Odin, not Laufey, your true family, Entropy," they answer.
"What with this name? After all this, can't you call me by my name?" Loki groans.
"I am. You have many names. Entropy, the Chaos Stone, the Death Stone, the Knot… the last one, actually, is the name you're most familiar with, translated to Old Jötunn tongue," they speak, all matter-of-factly.
"You're lying, the Chaos stone is a myth," Loki brushes off the answer.
"It does exist. A black gem, created by billions of ropes, strings and threads tangled together. The hardest one to wield and command and impossible to find. The Jötnar had found it and worshipped it. And when Laufey found out that his son is nothing but a dead baby, he sacrificed the infant for the infant. And Odin found the baby crying in the altar, the gem gone,"
"So I own my life to an imaginary stone, apart from an old piece of shit. What a surprise…" Loki throws their hands in the air.
"No. You are the imaginary stone. In order to give life, the Chaos gem entered your body and never left. You are the flesh of a corpse and the mind of an infinity stone. And it's time to leave the corpse and join us,"
The aimless walking stops, and Loki's heart skips a beat
I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife
"You made me kill a man, for this?" he asks, glaring at nothing. They don't answer.
"You made me kill a man! Just so I could die!" boiling hot tears streaming down their eyes and slither into their shirt as burning red eyes stare at the empty room for something. "I trusted you! You promised me a family!" he yells between his sobs.
Their feet cannot support them, and they kneel down, turned into a crying sobbing and yelling mess. A hand, created by mist, grabs his shoulder, trying to provide comfort.
"I hate you," they spit, flaring their nose drills as they stare into the blue eyes of the illusion they use to pretend they're close to them.
"I'm sorry, hurting you was… if I could prevent it…" the stone says and gives him a small squeeze. And they mean it. If there was a way to do it without any pain, they would. But it's too late, Loki is already hurt…
Offer me that deathless death
Loki throws themselves into the tightest embrace they ever had, weeping like a baby. "I don't want to die. Please, I don't wanna die. Anything but this, anything, please!" he whispers, diving his head into their shoulder without a thought of holding back the tears.
"Shhhh, you won't die. Not truly. Your mind is the stone, as long as it exists you exist. And the body will stay intact until you need it again. You will be fine, I promise," they whisper, hoping of making them feel better.
"I'm scared, Tessie. I'm so scared, I can't," for a prince, Loki sounds so small, almost like the small child they used to be. Tessie starts playing with his hair, hoping to calm him down, even for a bit.
"It's alright. Everything will be fine, no matter if you do it or not," they shush them.
"If I do it or not?" Loki repeats, sniffing quietly and breaking the hug only to look at the misty blue eyes of Tessie.
"I… you're in so much pain… if you decide that you had enough, you'll be left alone," they explain. Loki nods, still quivering from the crying, but determined.
"No. We got so far. I-I-I'm not giving up," he lets his voice get louder, and then stands up. "What do I do?" they ask, collected once again.
"Get comfortable in a position. And once you're ready, make the ropes appear and let them wash over you," Tessie explains, holding this sympathetic voice. Loki nods and sits back down against the white wall, moving to get comfortable.
Then, with just a thought, the ropes appear and fill him with this calming sensation. Tessie walks closer and cups their cheeks. "See you on the other side, Loki," they smile and kiss their forehead before vanishing.
Loki takes a deep breath, and looks around the cage. He remembers a field day he had when little, a good day. Odin was sleeping on a bench and Frigga was yelling at them and Thor to not get into trouble as Thor dragged Loki, who was just above six, on an expiration of the forest around a castle in Vanaheim. Of course, they returned after the sun was down, with scraped up knees and dirty clothes and Loki had traces of tears in his cheeks because a bug scared him. But it had been, and still is, the best time they ever had with Thor.
He holds tight into the memory as he lets the ropes cover him and closes his eyes.
Good God, let me give you my life
The guards don't know how this happened. One moment, Loki was gazing at nothing and the next…
How does one say this to the Allfather?
The healers walk out of the cage when Thor storms in the dungeons, on the verge of panicking. "Is he alive?" It's all they ask.
The healers won't answer, it's enough to know.
Thor walks in and sits beside what used to be Loki, holding their cold and deformed hand and letting tears run down his face.
Loki doesn't respond, how could he?
He's a statue, as if made from black stone, and his hands covered in stone black ropes, with a faint glow where his heart should be being the only sign that there was once life there.
Loki's face doesn't have the signature smirk, and there's no gleam in their closed eyes. But he does wear a peaceful smile. A smile Thor regrets he had to see this body in order to know that his brother knows finally peace.

OKAY i said i would make a post about my thoughts on paper mario a while ago and im finally writing it out
ill put it under a break because its probably gonna be long-ish
update: yea this bitch is LONG
okay so overall i really really enjoyed it!! it was really solid for the first entry in the series and i could definitely see the inspiration that ttyd later took from it. one thing that i didnt know about was partners not having HP, which threw me for a little bit of a loop. partners as a whole in this game don't play as active of a role as i wouldve expected because they have so little lines but using them in battle is still very fun! another small thing but i also hadn't expected mario to be completely silent, but it later grew on me!
i'm also gonna list my experiences and opinions on each chapter so here we go!!
chapter 1 - pretty alright for an introductory chapter! i didnt find anything especially notable, apart from getting 2 partners in one chapter. navigating the koopa bros. fortress was fun, and i loved the battle at the end!! their theme is SUCH a banger i had to sit back and listen to it for a bit when the fight actually started ehe
chapter 2 - not quite a fan of this one imo? i liked the first part through the mountain, but the trek though dry dry desert kinda took it out of me. BUT the addition of my favourite partner made up for it! parakarry my beloved <3 also the cutscene where dry dry ruins rise up??? that shit was SPECTACULAR. i absolutely loved how it turned dark when it first came up, i wish it stayed like that for more than just until you entered the ruins. the boss itself wasn't too exciting for me, probably because there wasnt much of a story?? i dont know how to describe it. actually its like that for quite a few of these bosses, but its the first entry for this series, so i wont fault it too much.
chapter 3 - this might be my FAVOURITE chapter- the suspense buildup throughout the entire chapter was AMAZING holy moly!!! first through the forever forest when you have bootler ask for you, and then wandering the mansion itself. i TOTALLY thought that boos were gonna be actual enemies when i saw them floating around. sneaking around tubba blubba's castle was so so fun to do, and i legitimately panicked when you ran into him in the hall and also when he wakes up and chases you back to the windmill. i didnt actually think the heart itself was the boss, just a miniboss, so i freaked out when i left the windmill and was immediately thrown into a battle with tubba blubba. i cannot express just how much i enjoyed this chapter, seriously!!
chapter 4 - coming back to toad town with the music change threw me for a bit; i wasnt expecting action to pop up so soon! figuring out that you could actually go into the toybox was such a "wait, what??" moment for me, but like, in a positive way. it was really cool to navigate this chapter and the lantern ghost encounter genuinely creeped me out at first because it was COMPLETELY dark. the fight against general guy is also a BANGER i could listen to it all day
chapter 5 - man i LOVE the whale. just a big guy willing to take u across the ocean :^) i really appreciated how you weren't stranded on the island too, like how you were on keelhaul key in ttyd. the ravens are also funky little guys, love them too. again, the lava piranha didnt really have any substance to it BUT it was a nice fight nonetheless! when it popped up again i was shocked but i made it through!! also fuck kolorado he doesnt deserve his wife
chapter 6 - this one's formatting is really neat- one central area with lots of branching paths, which i hadnt seen in my past pm experiences! i loved the quest leading up to the big beanstalk, plus the environment was so pretty!! the little part with the sun tower popped out to me, i'm not sure why though. maybe it was the music, it was so different from the flower fields theme. at first i had actually expected to go up to the clouds earlier, maybe like midway through the chapter. i thought that would be the "dungeon" of this part, so i was a little bit let down when i realized that the fields were the majority. however, the bit of the clouds we do see is SO good i LOVE the atmosphere!! huff n puff was actually relatively easy, using parakarry and lakilester for their all-around attacks. the guitars were a nice touch for his theme as well!
chapter 7 - oh dude i LOVED this chapter. i didnt know what i was expecting when i first went into the pipe in the sewers, whether it would put me into a village immediately or if i would have to make it through some screens before. needless to say, i was relieved when it popped me out into shiver city. the whole place felt "warm" which was really nice!! i was comparing it to ttyd's chapter 7 and fahr outpost which i didn't really vibe with, so it was a nice change! the whole murder plot was also unexpected but i enjoyed the whole "whodunnit" mystery! omg as im typing this i realize just how many aspects of this chapter i love this is gonna be long,, the entire snowy atmosphere is just so PRETTY and starborn valley felt so solitary to the rest of the land, like its own little bubble. i also had no idea that ninjis were in this game so when i saw one at merlon's i was like HUH?? anyways the way up the mountain to the crystal palace kept me on my toes; i thought that was the dungeon at first! the small bit where you see madam merlar and she tells you the story of the palace really got to me i have no idea why. the music and mysticality of it all was just SO good. dont even get me started on the crystal palace itself HOLY MOLY. the whole reflection bit was SO SO clever and the moment you realize its NOt actually a mirror?? fucking magnificent. this has to be my favourite dungeon in the whole game because it has such a NEAT gimmick!! it also has my favourite mario enemies, duplighosts! FUCK the crystal king though. he stunlocked me with his freezing move because i could not get the hang of blocking it. my partners really carried me for that battle; thank god for quick change
chapter 8 - THIS CHAPTER DELIVERED. the buildup for the entire game leading to this point. OUTSTANDING. i had to sit back and admire star haven because its so pretty- did i mention i love the water graphics in this game?? it has a pixelly look but it works SO WELL. going to the ship to take you to bowser's castle really felt like a "this is it" moment. the entirety of bowser's castle was So Good, it kept me on my toes the entire time!! slowly advancing as the music got more intense REALLY pumped me up. tracks that start off with only a couple instruments and eventually add more as you progress is one way to make me go BONKERS. the one bit where you make your way outside on the bridge and the music dials down and then you re-enter on the other side to it SLAMMING you in the face- that was Great. and then the complete silence as you get outside peach's castle HOLY SHIT. and then you actually enter the palace and the music is SO EERIE and youre like OH SHIT THIS IS REALLY IT. seriously, the buildup for this entire castle is done SO magnificently. i hadn't expected to fight bowser twice, i guess it was the game's way of letting u level up One Last Time before u got to the big bad. that being said, i wasn't too worried on getting a game over since i was fucking stacked on items. but that's besides the point- the fight itself got my heart POUNDING. the effects for the star rod and the star's powers were really nice to see in action, and the little section with peach and twink was so cool! i was expecting a little interlude where you would get your stats maxed out because thats how its like in every pm game, but it was still moving :)) bowser's final battle theme fucking SLAPS. the guitar especially sounds AMAZING. you really see him as a threat here and its so badass. his healing move fucked me over multiple times- i probably ended up having to deal with double his base HP over the course of the fight.
after the fight was over and you got to see peach's castle float down with the soft music in the background, it really hit me that its done, its over. again, the effects in this game are so pretty and theyre utilized SO well for the n64. visiting toad town one last time with all the npcs was a really nice touch- for some reason i really loved being able to interact with vanna t. (chuck quizmo's toad assistant) she's ADORABLE and i will probably end up drawing her sometime :)) the credits were also something that i really enjoyed- i LOVE the ongoing theme of parades at the end. seeing everything and everyone in the game condensed into a short 8 minutes really got me, i cant remember but im pretty sure i was smiling the whole time! and a small sidenote- TOADS WITH GLOWING SPOTS ON THEIR HEAD HELLO?????? I WANNA DRAW THAT SO BAD.
the ending screen with peach and mario looking at the fireworks made me really soft and i teared up a little because i was finally finished. the addition of pop diva's solo in the track was also so touching, it was my favourite sidequest in the game so hearing it again brought up Emotions :')
one thing i wasnt sure of was if there was a post-game mode and my completionist heart was disappointed a little when i found out i couldn't advance from the end screen and was forced to reset. although not many games from this era had post-game content so i cant dock too many points for that.
the paper mario series has a fond place in my heart, and finally being able to play the game that started it all really was a special experience. it really cemented my love for the original formula and i could see many places where ttyd took inspiration from. this game really is fun, and i would highly recommend playing it yourself if you have the means!

HISTORY
GALACTIC CIVIL WAR
Luke Skywalker on Tatooine
Raised by his aunt and uncle on a Tatooine moisture farm, Luke Skywalker never knew his mother or father. He knew nothing of the Force or Jedi, but longed for a more exciting life. Soon he would have it. With his Uncle Owen’s purchase of new droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, a chain of events was put in place that would change Luke -- and the galaxy -- forever. Artoo, a plucky astromech droid, wandered off in his first night on the farm, telling C-3PO he had to deliver a message to someone named Obi-Wan Kenobi. When Luke went looking for the lost droid, he was attacked by Tusken Raiders and knocked unconscious. Before he could be taken captive, friendly hermit Ben Kenobi appeared and frightened off the Sand People. Ben revealed that he was indeed Obi-Wan Kenobi, and had something that belonged to Luke’s father: a lightsaber, the weapon of a Jedi. Obi-Wan said that he and Luke’s father were both Jedi Knights, strong with the Force, and good friends. Luke knew none of this, and asked how his father died. The old Jedi said that his former student, Darth Vader, turned to the dark side and killed him.
Obi-Wan and Luke soon discovered that Artoo was indeed carrying a message after all. It was a holorecording of Princess Leia, stating that she had hidden stolen plans for the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star, in the memory banks of Artoo; she asked that Kenobi deliver the plans to her father on Alderaan. Obi-Wan implored Luke to come with him, but the farmboy refused. However, he and Obi-Wan found that the Jawas who sold his uncle Artoo and Threepio had been slaughtered by stormtroopers -- and they may have traced them back home. Luke raced to the moisture farm, only to find the charred remains of his guardians. Stoic, he decided to leave Tatooine, vowing to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like his father.
Along with hired pilot Han Solo and his co-pilot and friend Chewbacca, Luke, Obi-Wan, and the droids headed for Alderaan aboard the Millennium Falcon. But when they arrived, the planet wasn’t there -- only rubble, as it had been destroyed by the Empire’s Death Star. The Falcon was soon caught in the tractor beam of the giant space station, but it proved fortuitous; Princess Leia was being held there. Luke and Han, in stormtrooper disguises, staged a rescue while Obi-Wan disengaged the tractor beam. The Jedi Master, however, encountered his old student, Darth Vader, and was killed in battle. Luke saw it happen shortly before escaping in the Falcon, and was deeply affected by the loss of his mentor.
The small band of heroes regrouped with the Rebel Alliance on Yavin 4. With the Death Star plans successfully delivered, Luke joined the mission to destroy the battle station, piloting an X-wing under the call sign Red Five. In the ensuing battle, the Rebels suffered heavy losses, and Darth Vader entered the fray in his TIE Advanced. One of the last remaining pilots, Luke flew through the Death Star trench at blinding speed with the goal of shooting a volley of proton torpedoes into a small exhaust port. Vader closed in, ready to destroy Luke's starship -- noting that “the Force is strong with this one” -- but a surprise blast from Han and the Millennium Falcon sent Vader's fighter tumbling into space, clearing Luke for the shot. Calling on the Force with guidance from Obi-Wan’s disembodied voice, the Jedi-to-be delivered a precise shot, and the Death Star was destroyed.
Luke Skywalker training with Yoda on Dagobah
Though the Rebel Alliance had struck a major blow against the Empire with the destruction of the Death Star, the war was far from over. The Alliance built a new secret base on the ice planet Hoth, with Luke now a commander. While out on patrol, Luke spotted what he thought was a meteor impact on the surface -- in reality, it was an Imperial probe droid. Before he could inspect it, however, Luke was viciously attacked by a towering wampa. Though Luke escaped the ice creature’s cave, severing the monster’s arm with his lightsaber, the young Jedi nearly died from the frigid surface temperatures. It was also at this time that he was visited by the spectre of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who instructed him to go to the Dagobah system. There, he would learn the ways of the Force from Yoda, a Jedi Master. Han eventually found Luke, keeping him warm inside a tauntaun’s belly until help could arrive. Luke recovered from his injuries and lead the Rebel defense against the Empire’s ground forces, including massive AT-AT walkers, giving the Alliance time to evacuate the planet.
Luke headed to Dagobah as instructed and found Yoda. He was not what Luke expected -- small, alien, and green, with a unique backwards way of speaking. Luke trained hard, failing often but learning much from his wise Master. During an exercise, the young Jedi saw a vision of his friends in pain; Luke cut his training short -- against Yoda's wishes -- to help them. He left for Cloud City where Darth Vader awaited, hoping to capture Luke and bring him to the Emperor. They dueled, but Luke was outmatched and overpowered. Luke was battered and bloodied in the fight, losing a hand, and the Sith Lord revealed a frightening truth: that he was in fact Luke’s father. Vader wanted his son to join him on the dark side, and together they could overthrow the Emperor and rule the galaxy. Luke was shattered and in disbelief. He refused to turn, managing to escape with his life.
Luke Skywalker as a Jedi Knight on Jabba's Sail Barge
With Han frozen in carbonite and held in Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine, Luke led a mission to rescue his old friend. Now a powerful Jedi Knight, Luke tried to bargain for Han’s life but the crime lord refused. Through a trap door, he dispatched the Jedi into an underground dungeon and unleashed his massive rancor creature. But to the shock of Jabba and his henchmen, Luke was able to destroy the beast. Incensed, the gangster sentenced Luke and his friends to die in the Sarlacc, but again, the Jedi was underestimated. Luke decimated Jabba’s men, and the group of heroes completed their rescue.
With Han safe, Luke returned to Dagobah to complete his training. Yoda, however, was dying. In his final moments, the old Master told Luke that he required no more lessons, but he had to confront Darth Vader -- who was his true father -- once more. Yoda also told him of another Skywalker, who Obi-Wan would confirm was Leia, his twin sister.
Meanwhile, the Empire was constructing a new Death Star -- with the Emperor personally overseeing its completion. Utilizing stolen schematics, the Rebel Alliance formulated a plan to destroy this new superweapon. Luke joined his friends for the mission on Endor, but departed when he sensed Vader’s presence. Luke believed there was still good in his father, that the Emperor had not driven it from him fully. He tried to convert Vader to the light side, but the Dark Lord claimed it was too late. Instead, he brought Luke before the Emperor on the Death Star. The evil Sith Master looked to turn Luke to the dark side, and goaded him into a duel with his father. When Vader suggested that Leia could be turned to evil, Luke embraced his rage and pummeled his father relentlessly -- giving the Emperor exactly what he wanted. But before he delivered the killing blow, Luke paused, remembering his teachings. Calming himself, Luke threw away his weapon. “I am a Jedi, like my father before me,” he said. The Emperor, confounded by Luke’s actions, unleashed Force lightning upon the young Jedi. Vader rose and threw the Emperor down a deep shaft, his true self reawakened by his son’s love. Luke had one final moment with his father, and escaped the space station before it was destroyed. The once reckless farmboy’s journey was complete: he was a mature Jedi, freedom was restored to the galaxy, and his compassion had saved his father.
THE NEW REPUBLIC
Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 after the destruction of his Jedi Academy
After the Battle of Endor, Luke traveled the galaxy with R2-D2, seeking long-forgotten Jedi lore as he pondered how to resurrect the Jedi order. But his efforts ended with one of his apprentices leaving his plans in ruin. After this tragedy Luke vanished, and no one knew where he had chosen to spend his self-imposed exile.
THE FIRST ORDER
Luke Skywalker training Rey in the ways of the Force on Ahch-To
The scavenger Rey tracked Luke down on Ahch-To, and pleaded with him to return and help the Resistance. Rey also needed his help to understand her burgeoning Force powers. Luke refused, telling her it was time for the Jedi to end. When Rey resisted refused to leave, Luke reluctantly agreed to teach her enough that she would understand why he had made his decision.
Luke Skywalker performing Force projection from Ahch-To to Crait
Rey insisted that the galaxy needed the legend of Luke Skywalker, a plea that seemed to fall on deaf ears. She left Ahch-To, but Luke had opened himself to the Force – and a last lesson from his old master, Yoda. Luke projected himself through the Force to confront Kylo Ren on Crait, giving the Resistance a chance to escape the First Order. He passed into the Force, but his legend would continue to inspire the galaxy.

Session 1-Tidepool Tower
Our first adventure began in a rather interesting fashion.
To start, one my friends surprised me by joining on, so her Eevee’s stats will have its own “Meet the Cast” post in the next coming days. Another friend couldn’t make it to last night’s session but will be in session 2, so if all of you are wondering why there’s no Haunter yet...he’ll have a rather hilarious introduction to the group for session 2.
It started with me reading the prologue found here and also playing a quick snippet of a song that...kind of acts as one of the themes of this series. The song in question is Dangerous by David Guetta ft. Sam Martin. I don’t remember if tumblr’s still weird about linking to music, but the main point of the song is:
“I don't know where the lights are taking us But something in the night is dangerous And nothing's holding back the two of us Baby this is getting serious
Oh oh oh-oh-oh Danger-Dangerous Oh oh oh-oh-oh (danger-dangerous)”
The rest of the session will be under a “read more” but to summarize quickly for those who can’t do dense reads: they survived their first dungeon, Tidepool Tower, although 1 of them had a truly epic fail, and another already fainted but was rescued by some helpful heroes. Who were they? Read on below:
Four heroes lay on a beach, sand embracing them and waves crashing not far away. The sun began its descent but still had a way to go. Everything was cast in shadow, especially from the giant porous rocks lining the shoreline. Slowly, four figures woke up with varying reactions. Two were calm, not moving much or frightened despite something being terribly wrong. One awoke in a panic, screaming about their newfound appearance. All of them, you see, had the vaguest of memories that they were all human once.
The two who were calm were Caesar, a Bulbasaur, and Vito, a Gible (who was also convinced everything was a dream, hence why he was so calm). The one who awoke in a panic introduced himself as Denki, a Dewott who then tried to meditate into a calmer state.
And lastly, the only one who awoke and then tried to scout the area was Sir Mixalot, a genderfluid Eevee whose pronouns of the week were He/Him/His.
In his scouting, Sir Mixalot discovered that an angry mob of Pokemon were descending upon the group’s location, and despite being a Bold nature who first tried to charge the incoming mob, realized they were too perilous of a group, and then boldly used his “Run Away” ability which prompted a minute of joking about the song “Brave Sir Robin” from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Caesar followed Sir Mixalot in running away, and after a brief delay from both Denki and Vito (who was convinced still that everything was a dream) they all ran away and got sucked up into their first Mystery Dungeon, Tidepool Tower.
Tidepool Tower, as I described it to the group, was a 4 Floor dungeon, with 3 actual floors of battle and 1 “rest” floor. The walls were of porous rock with slits of tide pools suspended almost like magic along the walls without spilling out, and a sandy floor.
Being the first to Run Away, Sir Mixalot was the first floor leader, and led the group on through the floor. His first encounter was with a Staryu in a battle drawn out due to Staryu’s use of Harden and everyone having issues hitting each other. Sir Mixalot did speed it up a bit by using the first Jump of the game (even though it was a fail and he took some bludgeoning damage) and having Caesar help him.
After that, the next encounter came from a Binacle that could have been avoided if the group didn’t go for a Stun Seed. That battle went faster, and then they moved on to the second floor.
The second floor didn’t have any enemies, but Caesar as floor leader found an Apple and a Max Elixir that was given to Vito. Then on the third floor is where the most trouble came.
Denki was floor leader then, and at first all seemed well until he went down a three direction tunnel blocked by a Mareanie. Denki, wanting the battle sped up, cleared a successful Jump, and had Vito join the battle against Mareanie, whose only known move at level 4 was Poison Sting. Both of their lucks ran out at that moment.
The first unfortunate bit of luck came from Vito being hit by Poison Sting, and failing his DC 10 HP Save against being Poisoned. Then, in his attempt to save Vito from fainting, Denki had the most hilariously awful series of rolls. For the next 4 rolls, Denki rolled 1-1-2-1 on four different sets of d20. Of course, after the last 1, Dan (my player for Denki) threw his dice bag on the floor and proceeded to kick it while the others had a major laughing fit.
Vito, unfortunately, did Faint during all of this despite Mareanie NOT having the ability Merciless, but after getting 3 successes, only had himself jettisoned out of the dungeon. This did make the group wonder where he went and what happened to him, but it didn’t take them long to find out.
Mareanie was eventually defeated without Denki or Sir Mixalot--who had to join in the battle after Vito fainted--being Poisoned. Denki tried to explore the floor more, but after seeing a Corsola in a room, went “fuck it” and ran off in the other direction with the group, Corsola chasing them all the way until they made it up the next staircase.
On the 4th “floor” the group made it to the top of the Tidepool Tower at sunset, with tide pools covering the porous rocks in front of them. The battle weary group could still hear the mob in the distance, but then, two Pokemon carrying the fallen and now revived Vito approached the group.
The first was a peppy Mudkip with an Australian accent, and the second was a world weary, sighing Shroomish who both introduced themselves as members of a mysterious Adventurer’s Club. They asked the group if they wanted to be saved from the mob and taken into the city, which the group eagerly agreed to.
The six then traveled until they reached the outskirts of the main city of the game, Crux Cove, and that is where we ended the session. They all leveled up to Level 6 after that ordeal, and in the next session they will get to visit the city and the Adventurer’s Club.

Shadowbringers (pt 4/end)
This just has spoilers for everything, basically. :U I finished it and don’t feel like splitting stuff up because I have over 1k screenshots to go through...
Tumblr media
Katana-bearing Centurion: Besides, there is but one hand that can make me whole again. My enemy... my friend...
He probably just says “friend” there in Japanese, but I don’t have my whole game switched, so I don’t get to know for sure. Good to know you’re still being weird, Zenos.
Tumblr media
Don’t you smirk at me like that, mister.
Tumblr media
Here’s Urianger being handsome, as usual
Tumblr media
I hated fighting this old dude as Thancred.
1) I still can’t believe he can easily take out the WoL like he did
2) Stop making me be sword dudes!!
3) I get why they wanted people to see the dialogue here, but it was so slooooow and I died once near the end and had to do it all over again and ughhh, just go away
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryne looks cute with her new hair and eyes, at least. :) Thancred is still a bad dad, but at least he’s doing better now... I guess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Urianger’s reaction to finding out that Thancred was paying attention to some of his talks about pixies was really good, haha.
...I wanna listen to Urianger give a pixie lecture...
Tumblr media
Wow
Tumblr media
This was something the game threw together when I asked it to pick recommended gear. It’s... some kind of look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Exarch/G’raha Tia is a qt. Y’know, I figured it was probably G’raha Tia, but I didn’t remember him being so short... and the lack of cat ears also made me doubt myself, haha.
I’m really glad I did the Crystal Tower stuff, though, because otherwise I’d... well, I’d still think that G’raha Tia/the Exarch is cute and like him a lot, but it wouldn’t have had the same impact.
Tumblr media
I took a bunch of screenshots of Mikh’a. :U
Tumblr media
& Emet-Selch, ofc
Tumblr media
that one old dude: If you would pass me, you must endure all that I have learned on the battlefield... For I am a weapon forged in the fires of war!
~*oooh, I’m so scared of you and your tiny amount of health left*~
My MP doesn’t even have a dent in it, really. This is why I had such a hard time believing this dude could take out the WoL!! Even the first time we fought, I had tons of MP available to me and could’ve made a full recovery from being brought down to 1 HP. (...well, I have Benediction which is kind of cheating, but still.)
At least this was the last time I had to deal with him. He’s probably the worst thing about the expansion, which I guess I can deal with since the rest of it was so good.
Tumblr media
Lots of really pretty screenshot opportunities in this expansion. c:
Mt. Gulg is something I thought was common to a bunch of FF games for some reason, but apparently it was in the original Final Fantasy, FFIX, and some random spin-off games. Weird.
Tumblr media
How did Mikh’a hear him talking from that far away??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Emet-Selch has such a good design and you can tell that a lot of work was put into him. The expressions he makes, the way he stands and walks--it’s all unique to him and it makes him stand out a lot.
Even after everything that happened in the expansion, I’m really fond of him. They made the right move in having him kind of forge a more personal relationship with you/the WoL, because if he hadn’t been obnoxious in the background throughout most of the expansion it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as interesting/good as it ended up being.
Tumblr media
I obviously chose to say that they were all Alphinaud’s assistants. :P
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This little scene was so cute... lali-hos for everyone...
Tumblr media
Crystal Exarch: Ugh! I would thank you not to shoot me!
I’m sorryyyyyy ; ~; You were there and I wanted to see what would happen!!!
Tumblr media
Crystal Exarch: Ah heh... It may interest you to know that Mikh’a is a great hero in the land whence he hails. Some would say the greatest.
This little venture made me feel like I’d suddenly gotten married and adopted a child
(Which I’d be totally fine with, tbh.)
I loved this thing, actually!! I got to heal G’raha Tia, he healed me, we both healed our new tiny dwarf child, it was great.
Tumblr media
c:
I’m still using the Mogrod. I’m never going to stop using it. Give me another thing that has a flower and swirly rainbows all over and maybe I’ll switch weapons, but until then? No.
...unless there’s, like... a really, really pretty plant weapon, especially if it matches Mikh’a’s outfit... but I don’t think there is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got to put my bubble on them. :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s so cuuuuuute. And Mikh’a clearly agrees with my thoughts on him, considering the expression on his face when he looks at him.
Tumblr media
One of the reasons I keep Mikh’a wearing the WHM gear is because I really like the contrast I get--a lot of the major characters wear black, so it looks nice when they stand next to each other. :D
Tumblr media
Katana-bearing Centurion: The whereabouts of my one true friend, however--they interest me greatly. I but hope the beasts of this “First” are providing him proper sport.
Zenos is so funny to me. He just pops up like “did someone mention my friend” while his dad and Elidibus are having a serious conversation.
Tumblr media
Innocence has beautiful hair and if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I’d never believe that he was Vauthry.
Tumblr media
You can kind of see @tarifu in this screenshot! :D
Tumblr media
You can definitely see her here--wait... why is half the party wearing dwarf beard outfits...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is probably weird to say, but I genuinely like when characters I play in games like this suffer/are in pain. Not, like... constantly. I just like it when NPCs get to express concern and you aren’t some kind of unbreakable hero 24/7. >_>
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously I was going to say his name, who wouldn’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This made me cry!! I thought he was dead. :C
Tumblr media
But thankfully Emet-Selch didn’t want him dead, so he did not die.
...why’d he even need a gun? Has he always had a gun?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wish I could just float off into the sky after ruining everything and being a big jerk
Tumblr media
sad kitty
Tumblr media
I died when I came here with Jack and Mari because I didn’t realize I was being targeted by the boss until it was too late. :,)
I got to practice using my shield, though!! I’m not used to having one so I’m not super great at remembering it exists and using it; the tether thing is a good visual for “this specific person is going to be damaged soon and a shield would be Good”. ...unless everyone’s bunched up and I can’t tell who has it until it’s too late, I guess.
I know I’m level 80 now, but there’s still a lot I haven’t done and I’m still trying to figure out what the best way to do things is sometimes... I still need to mess with my hotbars and stuff, actually. I think I might switch some things around more than I already have, because some useful things aren’t as easy to use as they could/should be and I’ve been wanting to mess around with stuff for a while. The Trust dungeons should be a really good opportunity to test new configurations! Or the squad dungeons, I guess. :/a
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m still not Ardbert’s biggest fan, but I don’t dislike him.
Tumblr media
Poor Urianger, getting stuck with the role of the only other person to know the Exarch’s plans. :(
Tumblr media
& then everyone died going to the bottom of the sea and the game ended
Tumblr media
I got to help put dwarf helmets on sineaters :U
Tumblr media
I also remembered that I have fancy wings now, wheee
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got a nice new outfit after doing my last Healer role quest! :D I like it a lot~ The whites are brighter than the last outfit, and the bit in back accommodates his tail much better than the corset did.
I might play around with mixing and matching some pieces once I get newer stuff, but for now this is what I’ve got! c:
...and I refuse to wear the hat. 100%. I’m not making Mikh’a look like a weird nun. :|
Tumblr media
Amaurot was really good, even if being there mostly just made me sad. >_> The not-people were so cute and nice, though...
Tumblr media
Big
Tumblr media
The WoL hanging out on this giant bench is so cute.
Tumblr media
I liked getting to talk to Emet-Selch’s friend. c: Well... kind of, anyway. Since it’s not really his friend...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
tiny
Tumblr media
Emet-Selch: I have broken bread with you, fought with you, grown ill, grown old! Sired children and yes, welcomed death’s sweet embrace.
I still don’t 100% understand how Ascians work, but I guess it’s canon that Emet-Selch fucks :/a
I regret typing that, I think, but it is apparently true
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think your fireplace has something wrong with it
Tumblr media
Really though, this dungeon was excellent.
Alisaie decided that she wanted to LB right as one of the bosses was doing one of those “hide behind a rock Or You Will Die” things so she died & I accidentally walked right off the edge near the end of the last boss fight (oops), but other than that things went okay!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
D:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ardbert could you please clean your axe somehow before you point it at me like that. tia
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a really neat moment :U
Tumblr media
I’m not calling Emet-Selch Hades ever. Sorry, Emet-Selch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was kind of afraid to do this trial and almost waited until someone would be able to do it with me, but it really wasn’t that bad in the end!
...except for when I died five times to the same attack... orz It was that arm-sweeping one, too, so it’s not like it’s not obvious that it’s coming. My problem was that I kept getting Raised in bad places right before it happened, so he basically just kept smacking me down over and over again.
(Which was partially my fault, because I should’ve waited to accept the Raise until I knew it was safe to be alive, but... I don’t like leaving the other healer alone and I don’t want to just be lying there uselessly if I can avoid it.)
Fortunately(?) the party wiped due to something completely unrelated (a failed mechanic I had nothing to do with) and I didn’t die at all the second time around! So at least there was that.
Tumblr media
I liked this bit in the dark. c:
Tumblr media
I also liked when I got trapped in the bubble and didn’t have to do anything. Thanks, Emet-Selch!
Genuinely though, it was a nice little chance for me to calm the hell down because my anxiety was getting real bad before/during this fight. >_>
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poor dude. :c Obviously he’s responsible for some absolutely terrible things and I’m not going to try to deny that or anything, but he’s lived for so long and he’s had to deal with the loss of basically everyone he ever cared about for that whole time. He recreated that entire city and all of its people, that’s how much he cared.
Still no excuse for basically trying to kill all of the people he didn’t consider “real”! But also still sad, IMO.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This made me go “awww” out loud and start to tear up, haha...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn’t want to leave him ; ~;
Tumblr media
Estinien said a full sentence here about how these guards were dead, too (in a way that implied he assumed that’s what they’d find), and the localization translated it as “hmph”. Kind of a weird choice there, but okay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zenos basically went Full Yandere since he killed his father just because he could potentially get in the way of his thing with the WoL, so... that’s something that’s going to have to be dealt with at some point.
I’m interested in seeing how things go, but I’m also a wee bit concerned that other people might get caught up in whatever this obsession is. I don’t want anyone to get hurt or killed because of Zenos’s yandere tendencies. :(
Tumblr media
Elidibus is being Boring on the moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But who cares about that! I got to lead a Girl Scout meeting for my level 80 WHM quest.
Tumblr media
Oh! Almost forgot about the story I got to tell the girls: “The tale of a man who crossed time and space to save the world... and me.”
I think the second one is about (original) Minfilia, maybe? :/a I wanted to tell them about G’raha Tia, though.
Aaaand that’s all I’ve done! \o/ I unlocked a new dungeon and I know there’s more than one post-80 dungeon, so I’ll probably check those out when I get a chance... but I finished the main stuff.
Which is kinda weird, because now I’m done again, haha... but I’ve got plenty of stuff to do before the next new stuff comes out. Especially since I discovered that Vamo alla Flamenco is the “dancer’s theme”, apparently. Need to dance ASAP >:O

[fanfic] I Will Be Your Wings:  Chapter 6
Yubel folded their wings as they came to rest on one of the perches close to the palace. They studied it for a few moments, chewing on one finger.
I shouldn’t go back. I really shouldn’t. They knew that. They’d always known that. They could even see guards flittering here and there, and a few taking ground routes, Flighted and Flightless both. The king and queen did their very best to protect their home. Yubel couldn’t blame them.
But that protection made it so difficult to get in there when all they wanted to do was meet him again. To see those warm eyes turned toward them again, to speak with him. To find out if what they’d thought about him was true.
As much as Yubel knew that they shouldn’t, that didn’t mean that they didn’t want to, or that they didn’t come by here every few days, fighting all reason with the burning desire to just flit in and search him out.
They rested a hand on the perch and forced their head away. This was a good spot to see the rest of the city from.
Has he ever been up here and seen it? Yubel added that to the list of questions that they would ask him when the time came. Because it would come; sooner or later. Somehow. Yubel didn’t exactly know how, but the more time passed, the more certain they became of it.
Somehow, they would meet him, and they would be able to ask all they wanted and answer all that he wanted. Surely he had questions too. Surely he felt the same way that they did, that they were drawn to one another.
Yubel didn’t know what the word for such a feeling would be. It had to exist; they just didn’t know what it would be. And whether or not they could name it, that drawing hummed under their skin and raced along with their blood, spun through their feathers and their hair, and sang in perfect time with every breath that they took.
Yubel leaped forward. There wasn’t any thought involved with this. The time was now and they took it. They spread their wings, darting too fast for most of the guards to realize they’d even been there. Timing was everything.
They knew where the gaps in the spell-crafted defenses were. They dodged through them quickly. Yubel had always been able to see magic, but hadn’t ever tried to weave it. One needed a proper teacher for that, and teachers required payment. Just getting money to eat and have shelter and clothes was enough of a struggle. Having money for a teacher for a gift that might not even be worth the effort? That was worth a laugh.
But now they flittered through the tiny gaps, resting where they could to avoid the eyes of the guards. They’d done this once before. But Yubel wasn’t foolish enough to think that he would be in the same place as before. It wasn’t the same day or even the same time of day and very few people’s schedules were that strict.
So they searched, taking time to watch for guards and for places they could move through the web of spells, and listened and watched for any sign of him. There weren’t so many Flightless here, were they? They could find him. They would always find him.
There were perches inside the palace grounds, Yubel discovered, ones of far finer make than those out in the city. Those were good enough, but these were far better, crafted of rare woods polished to a mirror shine, frequently littered about with couches and chairs that one could rest in.
Yubel could even see some of the nobles lounging on one or two of the perches. They made certain not to perch too near in those cases. If someone got too good of a look, it would be easy to identify Yubel as an intruder. The clothes alone – tattered tunic and sandals that didn’t fit nearly as well as they had when Yubel first found them – made that obvious.
So they stayed at a distance and did their best to blend in, staying slumped and looking away, as if a simple servant. Yubel didn’t think they would notice a servant.
“You!” A voice cracked out and Yubel leaped up at once, eyes darting around in search of a way to escape. Before they could, though, a tall man with insectoid wings landed in front of them. “Where do you work at?”
Yubel’s lip quivered; this was it, they would be taken to the dungeon and never again see the light of day or the rising of the moon, never again fly or dance with the wind. Even worse, they would never see him again.
“Oh, I don’t care.” The stranger glowered down at Yubel. Yubel noticed they weren’t as finely dressed as nobles or royalty would be, though they certainly weren’t as poorly clad as they were. “I guess you’re new. You don’t have a uniform yet?”
Yubel clung to that. “Yessir. I mean, nosir. I don’t.” It wasn’t in all technicality a lie. This was only their second time in the palace environs and they didn’t have a uniform – would likely never get one. But that wasn’t what had been asked.
“Come with me.” He turned and fluttered back into the air, Yubel following nervously. Surely he would figure out that they didn’t belong and then they would be sent to the dungeon?
But if this stranger, whoever he was, guessed at what Yubel feared, he made no mention of it. Instead, he guided them to a bathing area and gestured in.
“Go clean up. I’ll have a uniform ready when you get out. And hurry it up. The prince needs his lunch soon.”
Yubel almost froze on the spot. Could it really be? Had they somehow stumbled into that much luck?
The only thing that kept them from freezing altogether was the stranger pushing them into the bathing area and then stalking off. Yubel stared around in surprise, brain slowly unsticking, then one clear thought burst in.
I can see him again! And maybe this time they could actually talk to him.
Yubel hadn’t ever really wanted to take up a servant’s position. Or in truth, they’d never considered that they had the chance. Servants in the royal palace were almost considered royalty themselves, of a different sort. Frequently the position passed down from one generation to another. At least Yubel heard things like that, though it couldn’t be entirely true, not if this person thought Yubel was a new servant.
But if it gave them that chance to see him and talk to him, then Yubel would gladly be his servant for all of their days.
Quickly they stripped and plunged into the waiting tub of hot water, scrubbing until their skin turned red. Keeping their wings out of the water turned out a touch more difficult than expected, but Yubel managed it. There were combs and brushes to settle their hair and feathers into place – though they couldn’t be as well groomed on the wings as they liked. Reaching them remained difficult.
The stranger – Yubel guessed that he was someone in charge of the servants - threw the door open and stalked in, carrying a supply of clothes that he dropped onto the nearest table.
“Don’t take much longer. He’s almost finished his morning lessons and he’s going to need his lunch,” he warned before stalking back out again.
Lunch. Lessons. Yubel couldn’t yet wrap their mind about those things, let alone that they might bring him his lunch. But they carefully started to pull the clothes on anyway. Seeing would be believing.
The uniform fit better than Yubel would have presumed without some kind of measurements being taken. It was all in dark gray cloth, soft to the touch, with elegant embroidery around the neck and sleeves and the wing-openings. Yubel slipped their wings through the holes then spread them out for a few moments before refolding them, then reached to get the new shoes provided. Real shoes, not sandals that they’d outgrown far too quickly.
One side of the room had been made out of something reflective. Yubel stared at their own image for a few heart-stopping moments. Never before had they seen something like this – had they seen themselves like this. But there they were, dressed in clean and whole clothes for the very first time in their lives. What would be next, some kind of meal?
No, that couldn’t be, not when they were supposed to be taking the prince his meal. But Yubel shivered at that thought as well.
“Good, you’re ready. Come on.” The senior servant beckoned from the door and Yubel followed, hurrying in his wake as he hurried through the corridors. “What’s your name?”
“Yubel, sir,” Yubel murmured, more worried with each moment that they would say or do something that would reveal they weren’t really a servant to this man. Once that was out, Yubel just knew it would be the dungeons for them. Or worse. Suspected of trying to bring harm to the prince or the king and queen? Execution?
Yubel tried to keep breathing at that. They’d never met them and never thought of any harm to come to them. But would anyone believe them?
He repeated the name to himself a few times, frowning, before he shrugged and stopped before a door. “I can’t be expected to remember everyone,” he muttered, so low that Yubel almost didn’t hear him, before he opened the door and let out some of the most amazing scents that Yubel had ever encountered in their entire life. Their stomach roared at once, ignoring how nervous Yubel was in exchange for demanding some of that food.
The servant looked down, a frown twisting his lips. “You should have already eaten your lunch. If you skipped it, you have to wait until dinner. Understood?”
Yubel gulped and nodded. They had eaten lunch, but lunch had been a half of an apple and half a bowl of soup bought from a street vendor. It would have sufficed for the rest of the day until some dinner could be scrounged somewhere, if all of this wonderful food hadn’t presented itself. Now that it had, Yubel knew they were hungry. Very hungry.
The servant called into the room and someone else brought a tray towards them, holding it towards Yubel, who took it gingerly. The tray itself was cool but the plates on it steamed deliciously. Yubel recognized meat and vegetables and what was probably watered wine of some sort – Kuragari was the wine center of the world, after all – but couldn’t have named any specific dishes.
“Go that way,” the senior servant instructed, gesturing towards another hallway. “Take the third corridor, go up two flights of stairs, and then the second hallway after that. The prince will be in the second room on the left. Come back right away or when he dismisses you, whichever comes first.”
Yubel nodded and hurried away, repeating the directions silently as they did. They weren’t going to go wrong here. A chance like this could never come again.
Third corridor. Yubel counted as they passed them, wondering what lay down the first and second. I won’t find out. I can’t stay here. It would be too risky. This was the royal palace. They didn’t hire scruffy little nothings like them to work here. This was all a glorious mistake and the best thing to do would be to get out after actually being blessed enough to meet the prince. But they weren’t going to push their luck.
Yubel spied the first flight of stairs and headed up there. One good point about all of this was that the whole palace had clearly been designed for use by those with wings, even the servants. The steps were wide and easy to climb, and if Yubel had dared, they could have flown up them. Carrying the tray made it more difficult, though, so that was a chance Yubel didn’t take.
Instead, they just hurried along, trying to get there before the food got cold. Though a careful look at it showed that wasn’t a problem either: enchantments had been set on it that were likely there to keep the food hot. Yubel could see magic. Yubel didn’t always know what the magic had been cast to do.
The closer they came to where the prince was supposed to be, the more nervous Yubel grew. The tray was heavy, though not so much that they couldn’t carry it safely, but it seemed to get worse with each moment anyway. Yubel didn’t know what could be nerves and what could just be the tray itself.
A guard stood outside the door and the moment she caught sight of Yubel, she raised her weapon to bar the way.
“Your purpose?”
Yubel tensed, a ripple of worry flickering through their wings. Magic flowed all around this guardswoman, bright red like fire. Yubel swallowed. More truth, just a little shaded.
“I’m bringing the prince his dinner,” they said, holding up the tray. The guardswoman gave it a careful look, then stepped aside, opening the door.
“Go on, then. You’re new, aren’t you?”
Yubel wondered how often they would be asked that before they could get out of there. But for now, they just nodded, and hurried into the room.
And just like that, he was there. The room itself had two exits, the door Yubel came in by and one other one. Someone wrapped in magic, with poorly kept wings, stood near that door, but all of Yubel’s attention remained focused on the prince.
To most eyes he would have been sort of dull. Ordinary brown hair and eyes, a little thin compared to most Fliers of his age, though very well dressed, as befit a prince. To Yubel, he glowed with an inner strength that made them want to stay by his side forever.
He looked toward them as they entered, and Yubel ducked their head down on instinct as they carried the tray to the table in front of him. He said nothing at all and Yubel focused on setting the food before him instead of anything else. They were posing as a servant. That was what a servant would do.
Then the food was there and he hadn’t said anything, and Yubel began to take a step back. It had all been inside their own head and he’d never felt anything, never knew, never guessed…
They turned toward the door.
“Wait.”
Yubel froze. The prince rose up and stared at them, until without warning, his entire face lit up in sheer joy.
“It’s you!”

Erik's Regret
Between '07 and '10 my life was turbulent. Multiple breakups with pieces of shit. I attracted fucked up dudes and I had this idea that they needed love too so I thought by loving them I'm also helping myself because I was fucked up too. Many long-distance because I felt it was "safer". I didn't have to be available 24/7, there was more freedom, I was never one to be affectionate, and it was just overall easier....WRONG!
Most meaningful relationships to me were just 2.
Brendan was from California and had a slew of mental health issues. We bonded from the issues we both had. They were different but how we felt was the same. I would stay up late just to talk. Most of the time it was me listening to him and consoling him. We would end up crying together when we shared our war stories and feelings. I didn't feel so alone and it was hard being with him the most because I really saw a future with him but he was kind of avoidant. When things were good I wouldn't see him online and I couldn't call him because his parents would take away his cell and it was just a mess. Also, he had a female fanbase on DeviantArt so when it was public, I had a few hate mails from random chicks who threatened to kill themselves if I didn't stop talking to him. It put a strain. We were friends on and off and we stopped talking in '12. Since then it was just a few emails. Until he basically told me to go fuck myself out of nowhere last year. It still hurts because I still love him and worry about him. My biggest fear since '12 is he kills himself and I was never able to help him but I guess he's okay without me. That really hurts.
David was more of a physical handicap *sigh* and he was from.....Texas. 😑 We met online while I was still in high-school. Of course at the time I had no idea he was just using me (like John) for the fact I was this gullible geeky high-school girl who watched anime and read comic books. 🙄 I just never fucking learn. Of course not. I'm just asking for trouble. So this asshole had me fooled and got me good. At least he had the decency to apologize for what he did. He visited me right before 12th grade and stopped returning my calls shortly after. No one had the decency (Not even my mother!) to tell me... Ummm, somethin' ain't right here. I find out new years eve at a party via AIM on a friend's computer he said he just got married and adopted a kid.... 😭 For some reason I remained "friends" with him and even to this day occasionally chat. He also plays World Of Warcraft so I've done a few raids/dungeons. He's really let himself go these days. 😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Erik says we would have met if he hadn't killed himself.
I like to think if we did, just like in our previous lives, he would be like everyone else. I can see him being avoidant kind of like Brendan. Yeah something like that. He would be freaked out by someone like me who is accepting and shit 🙄. Then kind of poof on me. I just have that effect on people. If only I can poof on myself. 🙋‍♀️By bitch, see you next fall... Something like that. That's what helps me sleep at night.
Avoided the whole topic because I hate getting emotional and I hate crying. Nothing is worse. Feeling volnerable. I don't really get my feeling hurt but when I do it's 99.9 WTFM (percent) of the time because of a douchebag. Bullying is at tough one because it depends on a lot. Guys who bully me hurt a lot more than a female. Well let's face it females hate each other so... I assume most of the time the bitch is either on the rag, broke a nail or some guy finally wised up and dumped thier raggety ass (like me, welcome to the club). I had gone through it so much that since high school I don't cry or feel too butt hurt. I just have a smart comeback or roll my eyes. 😂 👌🏼 I developed a smart ass atitude since then that even gets me in trouble with "superiors". A manager harassed me (micromanagement and he was trying to show off how much a douche he is) one day and I told him off. Said something like he needed to back the off me and his little tactic wasn't working. I was sent home for sticking up for myself. Which was a blessing because the swat team came through to shutdown the company and everyone was "interviewed." long story....
Then confronting the turbulence in my life surrounding his death.
That's the worst part. I found a bunch of videos I posted on my first YouTube account. They were hard to watch. Especially the two about my wanting to die. In one of them I described how to "effectively" kill yourself and one dude said I should put a bullet in my head. That was awesome. Then the other I was kind of crying over a guy who messed with me (David and John) and he hurt my feelings by spreading rumors. I actually don't remember what exactly happened. If it was one or two people harassing me, I can deal with it, but it was so bad I had nowhere to go. School and the mall where absolute hell. For what? Over a little misunderstanding. Not getting emotional wasn't going to happen. That whole incident was the worst. Bad breakups, my mom having cancer and bullying happened all at once. I was falling apart. Since then nothings hit me as hard. If I could live through that, pretty everything else is 🍬 candy. What doesnt kill you make you stronger. Very true. 😒 Meh...
Yes I was (at times still am) pissed the fuck off that he killed himself. I had this goal since I was 11...well actually I was 7 but I needed to find "him" and was very specific in knowing he had a lot of issues like me. It wasn't the usual 💞😍💞. oh I'm looking for my soulmate bullshit. It was that I knew he wasn't local although a few times thought so I guess hoping I was wrong. Majority of the time I knew I had to start looking online. I was 11 when I was allowed to use the internet. Intuition was working fulltime or trying to. My psychic abilities were there and it was scary to know what was going to happen. If only I knew about this. Well I kinda did.
That Alanis Morrisette song Ironic has a new meaning.
.... And I hate it. 😑 In fall '09 I moved out of Josh's apartment. We broke up and my best friend drove 4 hours both ways to get me home. I knew it was "over". Shortly after settling back in, Erik found me bawling over this Game Over feeling. I asked a psychic about the outcome of our relationship and he said something like, sorry for your loss. I was like, ummm... Okay?
Josh gave me a fake 🌸 flower that was squishy and if you squeeze it, it lit-up. It sat on my windowsill. It flew across to the door and it freaked me out. Like, okay my house is finally haunted and I'm going to pretend it didn't happen and keep crying. I just knew it was over. I didn't want to have serious relationships after that and I didn't for a few years. I put everything aside to "look" for Erik. I passed up opportunities to travel the world and study music. That's what I really wanted to do. I just took whatever local college that accepted me just to please my mom. My heart was never in it because well I'm not working in hospitality and hardly did. My heart had always been set on Erik. Only I didn't know it at the time.
The most chilling thing about the whole thing is that feeling I had in '09 that it was over.
I just threw in the towel. Like what now? 21 years wasted. Then because of my depression over the worst break up at the time I threw away more time to play the field, drinking and abusing drugs; partying for 5 years and here I am now. Hating the fact that I kind of wasted my life. Having accomplished nothing of what I wanted to do. 🙄 Don't tell me some cheesy shit about how it's never too late and age is nothing but a number garbage. Uhhhh yeah... It's too late for me 😑. I don't have the luxury at my age to do what I should have done 12 or so years ago.
I won't make this longer than it needs to be. This is what makes this whole experience hurtful. It's not that I get retarded emails sent to me. 😕 The most agonizing and painful thing is he threw his life away and if it's true that we would have met if he waited well... You get the idea. Yet at the same time, say if he committed suicide while we are "together" I'm pretty fucking sure I'd be a permanent psych hospital resident or have killed myself too. If he died of natural causes or accident, I'd still be a mess but not as much. So how you look at it, outcome isn't so great. Even now. I rather talk to the living.
😘 💞 💕 ❤️ Good morning and good luck!
I forgot... I'm still intuitive and a medium. No matter how he died if we were ever together, I'm 99.9 WTFM (percent) certain I'd be dead either mentally or physically in some shape or form. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Stranger Things
Tumblr media
I haven’t ever written about a TV show before, mainly because I don’t watch much non-sports TV. I really just watch movies and reruns when I turn on the TV because I can’t seem to ever remember to watch shows I like when they air. But recently I have been watching TV shows, on a strictly binge-watch basis, on Netflix or HBO. Like most people, when I can’t find something to watch, I browse the “you might like this” on the Netflix homepage, and a recent addition to that category was Stranger Things. I still don’t know why I decided to watch it; maybe it was because of the ticking timer that showed up when I first clicked on the show, “4 hours until the release of season 2,” or maybe it was some of the hype I’d heard from people I know. But once I started the series, I couldn’t stop. I plowed through all 18 episodes in seven days, and when it finished, I couldn’t help but think that the final episode was absolutely perfect.
For those who haven’t seen the show I will give you some quick points to peak your interest and then suggest that you stop reading until you’ve finished the series.
Super Quick Review
The show takes place in the mid-80s, in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. There are four kids who are playing Dungeons and Dragons in the basement when the show starts. After the conclusion of their mission/quest they all head home. One of the kids, Will, is attacked on the way home by a creature from another dimension called the Upside Down. Meanwhile there is a secret facility in town run by the United States government, and as you would expect, they are up to all sorts of no good. This show is advertised as scary, but it’s more of a thriller and suspenseful, very similar in feel and “scare” level to Super 8 by J.J. Abrams.
Now if you haven’t seen the show, I would advise you to stop here since everything going forward is full of spoilers.
This show is really freaking good so I am not going to write a review on the show itself. What I am going to do is talk about a few things that I have been thinking about since I finished watching. Some of the following points have come from reading other articles online, and some are just my own perceptions and reflections.
Why do people care about Barb Holland and Bob Newby?
It took me seven days to finish this series, and while watching it I refrained from reading anything online about the show. The main reason that I do this is so the ideas of authors don’t infect my own.  So, when I finished the show I went online and started reading articles and reviews about the show and people seemed to really like these two characters, and I have no idea why.
As soon as Barb was captured, I knew she was dead. They had to start killing characters to create the perception of threat to the main characters, and she was the perfect fit. Online there started to become a #justiceforbarb following on social media, but why? She appears to be a good person and a good friend to main character Nancy Wheeler, but her biggest contribution was being dragged to party she didn’t want to go to and trying to cock-block her friend. Do I think her parents should have been told of her death so that they didn’t sell their house trying to pay to find their daughter? Yes, of course. But someone had to die in that first season, and she is easily the best option.
Bob Newby is different than Barb; he wasn’t a throw-away character who had to die just to create the potential of a threat. Bob is a main character who dies because he made too many mistakes. First, he convinced Will Byers to tell his dream demons to go away. Sure, that’s sound advice if you are having run of the mill nightmares, but its shitty advice if you are being stalked by an interdimensional power known as the shadow monster. Second, Bob nominates himself for a suicide mission because he is really the only one who is capable of operating the computers. But once he’s finished he leaves his gun on the table before heading to the exit. Rookie mistake Bob, when you are being chased by aliens, zombies, talking toys, or inter-dimensional Demi-Dogs, you never forget your gun.
The third and final/fatal mistake Bob makes is he doesn’t complete the catch before looking up field. This might not make sense to anyone who doesn’t watch football but sometimes a WR will be about to catch a pass and then he will turn to look up field, taking his eyes off the ball leading to a dropped pass. So, make the catch and then turn up field. Bob makes the same mistake, metaphorically. He has just escaped a maze of horrors and slammed the door in the face of a Demi-Dog, he is within 30 feet of safety and he looks up and celebrates the moment. In the next instant the demi-dog crashes through the door and eats him. Bob died because he didn’t stay focused on his objective; he was too busy trying to be “Bob Newby, Superhero”.
What was the deal with Eleven’s standalone episode in Season 2?
Eleven has been stuck in a cabin for 350+ days, and Hopper has been driving her crazy because he never shows up on time. She is pissed off at Mike because she saw him chatting up Max, and so she decides it’s time to go visit her mother. While she is there, she sees a vision of another girl, Eight/Kali, and takes off to Chicago to meet up with her. Kali is the leader of a gang which robs people and kills “bad people”, and she convinces Eleven to join for a short time.
I hated this entire episode; everything about it was completely horrible. Eleven is “good guy”, sure she was a little impulsive, but she was getting training at the hands of Chief Hopper. She was on the right path. Then she meets up with Kali and her gang of losers. I was so happy when Eleven finally decided to head back to Indiana to help her friends.
My other complaint was that this episode, “The Lost Sister”, existed outside the rest of the story timeline. Every other episode jumps around between the different characters so that time passes evenly for the cast. But not this episode it’s just an entire episode of bad decisions by a 13-year-old with superpowers. It would have been better if this storyline was split between several episodes throughout the middle of season two. But really, I still don’t think I would have enjoyed the story line.
Why did Dr. Brenner want to be called by Papa by the experiment kids?
Dr. Brenner is the main human villain in the first season, and he runs the Hawkins Energy lab building. One of his duties at this covert CIA-type laboratory is training the captured children in the use of their powers. He is also in charge of keeping the experiments at the Hawkins facility a secret for the local community. In his normal duties, he has to experiment on children and kill anyone who finds out the secret nature of the facility, so basically his job sucks. Even if he donated part of his salary to charity he would still be a “bad guy” best compared to Joesf Mengele, the Doctor at Aushwitz who experimented on children. But the creepiest thing about this guy is that the children call him “Papa”. Why? The kids are isolated from the rest of the world, he could tell them to call him anything. But instead he has created this weird father relationship with the children. He should probably be investigated by the Officers of the Special Victims Unit because something weird is going on here.
Why isn’t Nancy creeped out by Jonathan Byers?
Early in the first season Jonathan Byers is walking through the woods looking for his brother Will when he stumbles on Steve Harrington’s house. There is a party going on at Steve’s house, so Jonathan pulls out his camera and starts taking pictures of the frivolities. While taking picture he captures a photograph of Nancy taking off her clothes in Steve’s room.
After developing his photos Jonathan is walking through the school parking lot and happens upon Nancy, Steve, and his goonish friend. Steve and the goon take his photos and find the revealing photo of Nancy; they proceed to rip up the photos and smash his camera. At this point Nancy feels bad for Jonathan, which is understandable given that her “friends” have just bullied the poor kid. But she ends up becoming friends with Jonathan and later dates him. Why isn’t she creeped out by the fact that he took these photos? I know he gives her some lame excuse about capturing people as they actually are, but it’s still completely creepy. I just don’t understand why this isn’t a huge red flag and major turnoff.
Who is the MVP of the first two seasons of Stranger Things 2?
Stranger Things has now completed its first two seasons, 18 episodes of content, and there is a lot going on. But my favorite thing to think about is who is the biggest hero of the show. Who is the MVP?
There are certainly a lot of quality options. The two most obvious choices are Eleven and Chief Jim Hopper. Eleven is a 12/13-year-old with some X-men like powers. She took on the Demogorgon and kicked its ass, then she threw down with some demi-dogs and closed a massive portal to the Upside down with her mind. There were some rough patches along the way, like shoplifting and joining up with a crew of losers, but she always shows up when the bread needs to buttered.
Chief Jim Hopper is just a local police chief, but he can really kick some ass. In fact, I think he punches out every person at Hawkins lab.  He has no powers except an awesome beard and a willingness to battle interdimensional beings, even though it’s way out of his jurisdiction. Heck he even looks out for Eleven when she has no place to live.
With any MVP race there has to be some dark horse candidates and here are those four options. Joyce Byers is Will and Jonathan’s (why doesn’t he go by John?) mother. She doesn’t give up on Will even when everyone thinks he is dead and that she is crazy. But her ex does throw her off for an episode. In season two she really steps up her game as she helps Hopper solve the maze that Will has drawn. Her and Bob team up to locate the missing Chief Hopper, and finally, she teams up with Nancy and Jonathan and gives heat to the shadow monsters to save her son.
The trio of Mike, Dustin, and Lucas would also make a solid choice. Sure, they make some mistakes, they often need to be rescued by other characters, and they fight amongst themselves. But they go toe to toe with a scary ass monster with nothing but a slingshot. The also use their knowledge of Dungeons and Dragons to explain everything that’s happening to the rest of the characters. They do have some rocky moments but they remain steadfast in their desire to help their friend.
Neither Jonathan nor Nancy has a strong case by themselves, but together they are a pretty sweet team. The buy some bear traps and other tools in an effort to distract the Demogorgon. They help Murray the reporter bust open the secret on the Hawkins facility, kicking those bastards out of town. They even manage to help out Barb’s parents avoid losing their home and all their money in a desperate search for their daughter. And with the help of Joyce, they manage to save Will from the clutches of the shadow monster.
Billy Hargrove is a complete asshole and would never have a chance at the MVP, but his mullet is freaking awesome. Every time Billy does something awesome, smoking while lifting weights, seducing Nancy’s mom, playing shirtless basketball, that’s the power of his mullet. But even his mullet couldn’t save him from getting his ass kicked by his sister.
If you’ve seen the show you know none of those people have a chance. The real MVP is Steve Harrington; he even has a sweet nickname perfect for the MVP of the show, King Steve.  Steve is the only character who really changes throughout the events of the show. He starts out as a douche who is just hooking up with Nancy to get another notch in his belt. Next, he morphs into bat wielding defeater of the Demogorgon. Steve then becomes a good boyfriend, ready to take the next step with Nancy Wheeler, even putting up with a depressing dinner of KFC with Barb’s parents. Don’t worry he’s not done. Next, he gets his heart crushed but comes back as super-babysitter, equipped again with nail embedded bat. Steve closes out the show dispensing lady advice to Dustin and even drives him to the dance. Steve and his breathtaking Farrah Fawcett hair is your undisputed MVP of the first two seasons of the Stranger Things.
The Duffy brothers are set to make a third season and there are rumors of five seasons in total. Hopefully they start filming soon because I am really excited for the next part of the show. Plus, the kids are all set to hit puberty and we don’t 20+ year old high school students in future seasons. Lets just hope that future seasons don’t ruin the absolute perfection of that final episode of season 2.
Big O
