Hi, I just wanna thank you for the way you write Thelma and Mouse's relationship. Not letting mouse just forgive her just because she is his mum. Not letting all the past just go unanswered. Idk so many forms of media are so quick to bring back parents who've abandoned their kids and have them forgiven basically straight away. That's always rubbed me the wrong way. And I just wanna thank you for not doing that. Honestly I'm exhausted and this might have made zero sense but either way just want you to know I really enjoy your writing regardless

I assume this ask was brought about by this post I made last night? If not... that post boils down how I feel about those kinds of storylines, especially the way the movie I watched yesterday did it.

This got long, I'm sorry. This is definitely something I'm passionate and have a lot of thoughts and feelings about. Thank you so much for reading my fics and for sending this lovely message. It made me tear up in the middle of the hair salon this afternoon, and I love it and you so, so much.

Warnings for discussions of emotional abuse and neglect, implied physical abuse somewhere in my ramblings, just generally bad treatment of people in many contexts, mention of death in the abstract.

TLDR;; there are plenty of reasons why I write Mouse and Thelma's relationship (and lack thereof) the way I do in all my fics and why I don't see that trend changing any time soon.

Take care of yourselves however you need to. 💜

To me, it feels like a very unhealthy storyline and idea to perpetuate. Especially if a character has, for instance, gone close to no contact with a parent who hurt them (in any way) and expressed how they feel about their life without them in it positively. There's absolutely nothing wrong with setting those kinds of boundaries and sticking to them. I was still really worked up about the storyline and trope of forgiveness in those situations in general when I woke up this morning, oops. But I just... having a "reason" for what happened doesn't mean the person - parent or partner or friend or anyone - automatically deserves to be forgiven and have what happened forgotten about. And setting boundaries and sticking to them is the best response to have to that kind of harm - abuse, abandonment, manipulation, neglect, all of it. That is something I believe wholeheartedly, and applies to everyone, not just messy families:

anyone who has hurt you or made you feel less than worthy does not deserve a single second of your time or energy, and if completely cutting off contact with them is the way to stop their harm, then absolutely set that boundary for your own comfort and safety

I definitely double down on that when it comes to that kind of mother/child dynamic, and namely in the context of Mouse and Thelma, for my own personal reasons mommy issues because I feel like media is definitely worse about those portrayals in general? We have plenty of stories about toxic romantic relationships and people getting out of them, because there's this moral high ground to countering that kind of abuse, in a way? Shitty romantic partners can be replaced, so to speak, with someone better and kinder and gives the protagonist of the story the kind of love they deserve. But society, and the media and therefore the stories we see on our screens and in our novels, really pushes that idea of "you only get one set of parents" and I myself have heard "you only have one mother" within my own home plenty of times, especially when I acted out as a teenager and pushed back against some of the stuff that I write into my fics with Mouse and Thelma. (did anyone else get the "how would you feel if they were to die right now and that was how you left things?" guilt trip or is it just me and Lifetime protagonists?)

Which I have issues with for a lot of reasons. It feels very centric on this idea of a nuclear family - father, mother, their biological children, white picket fence. It ignores the idea of adoption, or a same sex couple, or even transgender issues. It also completely ignores how much chosen family matters to so many people. As we grow, we lose friends we made when we were younger and form new connections that align with where we are in life. We end romantic relationships and form new ones that serve our goals for life better. And that's totally fine and wonderful and we should continue to that. Why is that different with family?

At least we get to choose our friends and our partners, if we choose to have them at all, but our family... we don't get to choose our family. They don't even get to choose us. We get what we get and we just have to live with it, at least for the first eighteen years. And what if the family we're born into isn't what we need to live the lives we want to? Or even survive the world and everything going on in it? Why is this where we draw the line? Why is one family we had no say in the be all end all of it?

And why, when a character makes that choice for themselves to cut off the family member(s) who hurt them, are we suddenly faced with this ethical dilemma storyline where, if they don't forgive their family, they're seen as a bad person? When they wouldn't be considered a bad person if they never forgive an abusive ex, for example? That kind of pain is just as traumatizing as any other "uplifting" or "encouraging" storyline about escaping abuse, but it's different because they're family. Being related to someone by blood (or legal paperwork, because this obviously isn't just an issue in more "traditional" families, I've seen the foster system in this country and it's a mess and a half) doesn't mean they are automatically worthy of your compassion or kindness. Especially when a family that one can be legally trapped in for almost two decades of their life usually does far more damage than, say, a two year romantic relationship. But it gets brushed off or ignored because "families are messy" or "you only get one, so you better appreciate them" or any number of things. And it's incredibly easy to fall victim to someone who can use "because I said so" as a reason for literally anything from the moment you understand speech. It is so easy to manipulate someone who knows no other life than the one they're being given by their parents, this complete authority over their lives and their autonomy.

If someone hurts you, no matter who it is, fuck them, and anyone who says you have to forgive them or give them another chance. Second chances are for people who earn them, not for anyone who shows no signs of changing their ways.

So, yes, I do have a lot of personal reasons for portraying the messy relationship between Mouse and Thelma the way I do. And I'm generally happy with what I've managed to create and explore when I get the chance to write them and their interactions. And I'm glad that other people appreciate it, too. I did, however, accidentally unlock a memory I suppressed while writing this essay, and I hate it, and I might start crying on the couch, so I'm going to cut myself off.

But, if you or anyone ever needs to talk or vent about anything (messy families, messy lives, shitty friends, literally anything), my inbox is always open. 99% of the time (and as far as I'm aware, the foreseeable future) you are more than welcome to stay anonymous if that makes you more comfortable. Does anyone know where I can find the good quality version of this image? It's so frustrating because when cross searching on google it'll tell me the original quality is 850x478, but I can't find a way to download it in that quality. In short: Remus Lupin needs an ANCHOR POINT to harbor his ship. 1. Someone interesting he can pour his attention into. 2. Generally up-beat/optimistic, so he has warmth to lean on. 3. Bold enough to be themselves - even if they're different. 4. Kind and accepting of other people 5. A little 'cute'. 'Quirky'. Small 'issues' support. (just a bonus, really) 6. Independent. Can live without him just fine but still want him. 7. Emotionally strong. Immense maturity and stability. 8. Doesn't have much temper, doesn't start drama or fights. Of course he doesn't need ALL of these boxes ticked - but the highlighted ones are the closest to a MUST for the relationship to even have a chance at being healthy. Remus is an introverted man. He isn't shy (he can take charge of a room, he can speak publicly, he is good at getting people to like him) but when he isn't the focus he is a wall-flower. He doesn't talk much unless he has something to say. He is deeply, irreparably self-conscious. He has trauma of unintentionally hurting those he loves, so he keeps his distance.

((His parents became sick with the stress of having to move house every few months, find new work every few months, keeping their bank account drained... socially isolated with a son they had to lock away every Full Moon - lest he killed them. They loved him but that was a difficult thing for Remus to grow up witnessing, knowing he was the cause. Knowing him leaving for Hogwarts was the best thing to happen for their health since he was bitten... Of course he pushes people away. He can't help being sick - but he can help them not suffer... if he stays away.))

He is always thinking inwardly. He is always anxious. He wonders how he can make himself smaller, friendlier, less scary… Trying to plan how he wants others to relate to him. He tries to control how others think of him, to steer them away from the bad things... He is a wolf in wizards clothing. If he treats everyone as dolls to manipulate, and if they never know the real him... it will hurt everyone less when he leaves.

1. He needs someone who can bust him out of that toxic mindset. Someone that grabs his attention and pulls it away from himself. Someone interesting, skilled, passionate - living a life he can't achieve. Someone with knowledge or stories he can listen to at length and live a little through them... or they can even include him. More of a talker so he can be a listener, so he can focus on someone else's world - but they're also eager to hear whatever he has to say without prying. They aren't arrogant or loud: they can listen, too. Remus needs good, witty conversation over a cup of tea.

2. They need to be generally up-beat, but not in a way that'll crush his down-beat. They invite him to join in if he wants - or else lean on them like they're a heater for his troubled soul while he feels down. Sometimes he will feel bad, or flat, or tired - and they can't fix it.

I don't think he has any visual preferences. What he notices first about people are their mannerisms. He is always shaping himself to fit the room, so I think he admires people who act authentically: Boldness. Bravery. Honesty. Earnestness. Brashness. So... 3. He would be more attracted to people of subcultures and/or strong interests - or are simply out-of-the-expected-norm. I think he would be fascinated about these little nooks of belonging - alternate 'normal's' when the Wizarding world can be so rigid. (Do I think he has a preference for LGBTQIA+? Yeah. General androgyny too.)

4. Kind. Accepting. They need to be kind to others in general. Because he can't always be kind to others. He puts himself first and sometimes that hurts because he WANTS to be more kind. A partner who can pick up the slack? Who he can trust to always be kind and accepting of him - because they are such a way with everyone...? That's just a requirement, really.

5. A small thing I think he likes in particular: A cute factor. A little clumsy, A little slow, Enthusiastic, Awkward, Weak, A bit short/tall... something that isn't an issue but will pop up every now and then, distract him and make him go '...cute. That was cute.' Something he can effortlessly support. Something he can be thoughtful about, thinking of their needs rather than his own. - They struggle to read quickly? He can read out loud for them. - They tend to act impulsively? He can hold them back just enough to let them to give it a second thought. - They struggle in social situations? So he can talk on their behalf. - They keep fumbling and tripping over? He can keep them steady. It's nice to feel useful and kind in a simple, effortless way. Something so obvious to proves he isn't bad at heart - even when he feels awful.

6. They need to be Independent. What he CAN'T have is someone who NEEDS him. Oh god, the pressure… He cant be trapped. He requires a high level of independence... because he WILL FAIL. He WILL leave and break their heart over nothing. He WILL make promises he doesn't intend to keep - because he intends to run away and never look back. If they NEED him, just to stay afloat…? It will break him. He can't be the bread-winner, even if he could have a stable job. He can't be a long-term emotional support, only short-term. He needs to know that WHEN he breaks down and fucks off not 'if' - even if it's FOREVER… that they will be okay without him. 'Not being ok without him' won't make him stay. He will not 'shape up under a bit of pressure'. It will only injure him.

7. He needs someone strong enough to be forgiving. Not a self-harming, forcing yourself to forgive-and-forget either. That is a very real danger with Remus: If he got with someone who was as much a people-pleasing self-depreciator as him…? He will tear them to shreds. He is a toxic man and he requires tough gloves to handle:- Genuinely emotionally strong. Someone he can lean on, far more than they lean on him. - Wise enough to see through his bullshit manipulations and lies - with enough tact to navigate them, understanding he struggles without judgement but holding him gently accountable. - Empathetic enough to understand him even when he can't explain himself properly. - Mature enough to hold him accountable. Can help him understand how he can do better. He is filled with shame - sometimes for very good reasons that need addressing.

He will go through periods of being unable to be contacted, periods of self-endangerment… He needs somewhere, someone, he can crawl back to in shame. Who WILL talk with him seriously about things… but is willing to just let him sleep quietly for the night in their arms, for now. (Am I saying he needs to date a therapist? Yeah, basically. Dating Remus isn't easy.)

8. Doesn't start fights. Doesn't lash out. Doesn't live off of drama. Remus fits himself into situations passively - he doesn't need someone making situations more difficult to feel comfortable in. If they get angry and yell at him - he will yell one hurtful thing back and leave. He has a very limited ability withstand tension. He tries to keep a level head and a level room - he needs a partner who will support those efforts, or at least not sabotage them.

Partners I think have good chemistry, for examples:

NYMPHADORA TONKS. It is annoying how perfectly she has been made to fit Remus' needs, as she is so underutilized. I wouldn't find her as frustrating if she got more fleshing out in ways that weren't the specific things suited to being with Remus… ugh. - She is a skilled Auror, especially for her age. - She lightens the mood of any room by being playful. - She is unapologetic in being herself, accepting people with ease. - She is a bit clumsy - but capable and hugely independent. - Her ability to roll with the punches is insane: every time Remus is hot-and-cold she has both the ability to hold him responsible for how much it hurts and the strength to still stand there for him. - She is firey and doesn't back down, but she isn't trying to start fights. She's just stubborn and confident in what she has to say. To make claims like 'Remus only likes her because she can shapeshift' or whatever is just... no, its because she is perfect for him.

LUNA LOVEGOOD. Surprising, I know. Perhaps in different circumstances they could have hit it off. - Strong interests, a subculture at the edge of Wizarding society yet she is always 'uniquely' and brazenly herself. - Optimistic and up-beat... a little dreamy, air-headed, focus could use some steering sometimes. - Helpful and kind to all, even those that have been mean to her. - Very used to being alone. Independent in body and soul. Quite comfortable being alone - but friends are nice, too. - Emotional strength is a specialty of hers. Even in the worst situations she keeps her head on her shoulders and, despite how aloof she appears, is intelligent, sharp and serious. - Can make demands when she needs to - not a pushover. Bonus: An interest in magical creatures, too. :)

Close, but I think have a large flaw (that might makes them spicy):

SEVERUS SNAPE - Potions Master. Dark Arts specialist. Veteran teacher. All the steady employment and deep, fascinating interests Remus wishes he could have - along with ALSO having been a Spy... and being misunderstood. They have more in common than they don't. - He isn't optimistic, but he is a problem solver, dedicated to making things better than they are. He faces problems head on while Remus would rather curl away. - He understands feeling quiet and low. He might not be warm, but he is a softer place to rest than you'd expect. - He has never changed himself for anyone. He is stubbornly himself, even when it makes him seem like an outcast weirdo. - He has little patience. He isn't gentle or nice. But he cares enough to be kind, even to those he hates... and he is loyal. It isn't ideal for Remus but it gives him a place to fit himself: If Severus is cold, he is warm. If Severus has the quirk of being a snarky, prickly bastard - Remus is skilled at the opposite. - Independent. Accustomed to being alone. Expects to be alone. Being with someone who understands him... a little daunting, really. The main place I think Severus fails here is emotional strength. He is quick to anger and lashes out. He holds grudges. He starts shit and Remus can't handle shit. Severus needs someone who can temper those anger flares, or at least weather them - and Remus can do neither. But perhaps that is the place they can meet in the middle...?

LILY EVANS - Everyone liked her. Talented, bright and strong-willed, She was a popular girl. I think Remus liked her too, but... James and Severus. - She seems a bit cheeky, quick witted - she brightens a room when she walks in. - She was best friends with Severus for years. Maybe she had other friends in her dorm - but if they were as close to her as Severus was, they would have been HIS friends, too. She was willing to be with the outcast, even when popular. - I know it's a movie quote, but I think it still fits from Remus' POV when he says Lily was an 'uncommonly kind woman' and 'had a way of seeing the beauty in others when that person cannot see it themselves.' I think she accepted him fast and firmly. - She didn't need anyone else. She stood up to James by herself. She knew what she was worth. - She seems to prefer ending fights rather than starting them. She hates a bully. Lily doesn't have the 'grit' (for lack of a better word) to take toxicity. She hated James' bullying. She dropped Severus. She has patience and an 'I can help fix him' desire - but they need to put in the effort, too. James cleaned up his act somewhat and she liked that. Remus isn't going to fully succeed at 'fixing' himself. Not just by 'putting some effort in'. It is going to take so long, and be so slow... Severus would be far easier to 'I can help fix him' - and she couldn't handle him. !!!This isn't saying Lily is weak or something. It is incredibly HEALTHY to not being able to put up with toxic shit, to have the strength to say 'enough is enough'. That is a GOOD thing.!!!

A popular partner I DON'T think works out so easily:

SIRIUS BLACK Sirius Black is a dog. He needs people. He needs constant companionship - especially after Azkaban. He is a mess who needs support, company, loyalty... and Remus can't provide any of that with regularity! Waking up in an empty bed, in a cold room, after Remus timidly promised to 'always be there' for him but was lying... it would shatter Sirius. He doesn't have the strength or stability to lose anyone else. Sirius is honest and sticks to his guns even when times get tough. He would rather DIE than turn his back on a loved one. Remus lies unprovoked and runs away with his tail between his legs at the slightest sign of trouble. Sirius, as a traumatized man, is not going to be able to understand why Remus can just throw away everything he has to run off. How he could just leave him alone again...? Doesn't he love him?! At his worst: he is more likely to try and emotionally trap Remus with him, force him to stay - and that just isn't going to work. Remus is a Wolf. He can't be locked in. I don't even think Sirius at his best, pre-Azkaban, would fit well: - He is upbeat, but in a way that tries to break others out of their funks. It's abrasive for him to hang out with someone sad. ((I'm sure he could learn to do it but his instinct is to help.)) - He is kind - but he has a limit. When that limit is passed, his care is snapped. He holds grudges and he makes judgements. - He is not and has never been independent. He is strong-willed and confident about himself, yes - but he thrives when he is at another's side. He has always been like this Azkaban just made it worse. - He doesn't have what it takes to weather Remus' bullshit. That's not a bad thing either, he know how to cut toxic people from his life when they are too heavy - but post-Azkaban he is even more scared of losing people, which makes him vulnerable. - He starts shit. He jumps into arguments, he escalates, he enjoys the thrill and the drama of it. Remus wouldn't join in, even if he agrees with Sirius, and thus would leave him unsupported. We see this very thing happen in OotP

Like most conversations with Jake, it happens outside the Hard Deck.

“I’m sorry?” You’re confused, have been since the moment you walked into the bar with Phoenix, Payback, and Fanboy and watched Jake’s normally clear, sea glass green eyes cloud with irritation at your presence. “That I didn’t tell you they sent me back to TOPGUN too? I haven’t seen you in almost a year, Jake.”

Jake’s clearly biting back anger, muscles flexing in his jaw as he grinds his teeth. It’s eerie, really to have that terrifying precision directed toward you. It’s not like you don’t know that Hangman doesn’t play well with others, but it’s been years since he threw it your way.

“Don’t act like we haven’t talked since then. I think you know you were supposed to mention it.”

You deflate. You don’t even know what you’re saying anymore, mouth forming words that only seem to frustrate him further, push him back into his shell.

“Let’s just get through this mission, it’ll be easier if we’re not fighting,” you suggest eventually, knowing there's no way you win this round, not while Jake is determined to use anything that comes from your lips against you. “You do enough goading with Rooster.”

You see the moment he forcibly relaxes, each muscle taking on tightly controlled calmness, the Hangman camouflage painting itself over his sharp features.

“We’ll stay out of each other’s way. Focus on the mission.”

“Yeah, focus on the mission,” you agree, staring down at your beer and wishing you’d brought several tequila shots outside with you. Maybe the whole bottle. Some lime for good measure.

You silently follow Jake back inside instead of opening your mouth again and making things worse, settling into a stool next to Phoenix with a hopefully less than noticeable sigh.

“What’s up with Bagman?”

You take a sip of your beer, trying not to wince. Guess your displeasure wasn’t as quiet as you intended. “I think he’s pissed I’m here.”

Phoenix furrows her eyebrows. “Why would he be mad you got called back too?”

You shrug. “Maybe I’m cramping his style – he thinks I’ll be upset if he’s sticking his hand up girls’ skirts at the Hard Deck in front of me.”

“You would be upset.”

“Not the point. Besides, it’s not like I’d actually tell him that. He probably just wasn’t expecting to see me and now I’ve ruined his plans to whore around, flirt with Rooster, or whatever he had in mind.”

“Wait, I’m sorry, you didn’t tell him?”

“No, when he mentioned he got the order, they hadn’t called me yet.”

“Then maybe he’s mad because it looks like you were hiding it from him.”

You roll your eyes. “We’re talking about Hangman here. Why would he care about that?”

Phoenix gives you a distinctly unimpressed look that you would really prefer to ignore.

Maybe it's time for those tequila shots after all.

Your skin is buzzing, has been since you listened to Hangman swoop in and save Rooster and Mav over the radios. You’d never been happier to hear that slight southern drawl make a stupid joke about tray tables in your entire life. The energy carried you through all the hops and transports back to North Island, all the way back to the Hard Deck where the air is finally filled with victory rather than uncertainty, all the way to Hangman’s room, your mind refusing to think about what a bad idea it is to be here with him. There’s only space for one thought running through your brain.

We’re alive.

“Fuck,” Jake groans, deft fingers making quick work of the buttons of your uniform. “Missed you, missed this.”

A sheen of sweat and one broken lamp later, you’re fully, frustratingly content. It's a little annoying, at this point, for Jake to look the way he does and be this good in bed.

“Don’t like fighting with you,” you admit in a whisper, lips tracing against his smooth skin, because your common sense got taken out at the knees three orgasms ago.

“Ended well. Gave us a vigor we haven’t had in a while.”

You know he’s joking. He’s teasing, doesn’t mean anything by his tone.

It doesn’t change the fact that you suddenly feel like a bucket of ice water has been upended on your head. Because that’s all this is. It’s never going to be more.

You can’t keep doing this, you think with startling clarity, not if it’s not going to mean anything. It’s not even his fault. You’ve known who he was from the beginning.

“Yeah,” you mutter, exhaling a steadying breath. “I don’t know. All the arguing, then making up so we can fool around. It’s time for us to grow up, don’t you think?”

“Probably,” Jake responds, completely unreadable.

It’s not like you expected him to disagree with you, but you feel a twinge beneath your ribs anyways.

When he kisses you, you can’t help but hold on tight, pulling him as close to you as possible with fingers tangled at the base of his neck. You should maybe be more concerned with sticking to your guns, not doing this again, but if this is the last chance you’ll get to have him you’re sure as hell not strong enough to deny yourself of that.

You know now what the end tastes like. Bittersweet.

“Heard Seresin’s opting to stay in North Island if you need more of an incentive to take Cyclone up on staying here,” Phoenix tells you the next morning, apropos of nothing and stabbing her French toast with a little more force than you think is necessary, given the cutesy restaurant you’re currently sitting in.

You cringe, having forgotten you were going to have to talk to her about this. Of course, this is the perfect opportunity for her to needle you, given none of the boys would be caught dead in this hipster brunch place, leaving you two to your own devices. “That’s a disincentive, actually.”

Phoenix furrows her brows. “Thought you guys made up after he got a chance to play hero. You were finally speaking in full sentences last night, at least.”

You look down, avoiding her eyes. “We ended things. For good.”

She grabs your hand from across the table, sympathy radiating.

Phoenix clears her throat after a second, smoothing out her expression, but her eyes still have that softness to them you rarely get to see. “That explains why you don’t want to take Cyclone’s offer.”

You nod. “Not very feminist of me, yeah? Letting a guy influence my decisions. But I just can’t trust myself around him. It’s like he’s lowered my defenses without even trying.”

“You can’t stay away.”

She’s not asking. It’s an observation, painfully obvious to the people around you that know you well. You wonder, idly, if Jake knows too.

He must. The thought makes your chest tight, hand unlacing from Phoenix’s so your knuckles can press against your sternum, quelling the pain and embarrassment that comes with realizing he’s probably been pretending not to notice, helping you save face.

You nod, a tired, small thing. “Yeah. And that’s the problem; I’ll always keep coming back.”

Looking at the waves crashing outside, you try not to miss North Island before you’ve even left. It doesn’t work, because you can still smell Jake’s cologne on your skin, can still taste the sting of goodbye on your tongue.

But Jake was just one chapter. You know you’ll have more.

Long rambly headcanon post about Kerry's sexuality incoming (because I have been thinking about this ever since I first met him in game and I wanna write it down somehwere).

Disclaimer: this is my personal headcanon. You don't have to agree with any of this, this is for fun and games. If you do happen to agree with this though hmu bc I need someone to talk Kerry with desperately xDD

So, first of all: I think Kerry himself doesn't give a fuck about labels. Too old for this shit, confident in his own sexuality, what difference does it make? Labels are great for those who need them, he's not against them at all, but I don't think it's something that's he's thinking about a lot. Is he gonna put on a rainbow shirt for Pride? Yeah why not, especially if his partner would like to go protest and celebrate togther. But I think it's not a top priority of his (at least not anymore, in 2077, at the ripe old age of 89. A young Kerry living in our times was probably louder and a lot more outspoken, but in this post I'm gonna talk about my thoughts on grandpa Kerry).

So, let's dive into the game. When the topic of Louise came up during my first playthrough (the first and only time sadly, I'd love to know more about her as a character - more headcanons incoming in a minute), internally I went like... what? Where does this come from? Not in a judgemental way, just honest surprise, because up until this point, Kerry had only been depicted as attracted to guys (making the saddest puppy eyes at Johnny, making out with a fan backstage, Johnny's various comments on him, their sexual-tension-filled relationship with each other). Beyond that, what we know from Kerry himself, he seemed to have tried to get something going with Ariel (who I think is a man - correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I played the actual conversation between him and Johnny at the villa and I'm not sure if he mentions Ariel's gender there). In the Temperance ending, if V was in a relationship with Kerry, Kerry will recount his other shitty exes of which at least one was also a man, and in the Sun ending, when his (male) manager calls, V can ask if that is "an ex of [his]".

That being said... yeah, Kerry flirts with V regardless of gender. Why? Maybe he doesn't know that himself, maybe he thinks V is cute, maybe it's a power play, maybe he just wants to annoy Johnny who cannot escape the situation, who knows, anything goes. His whole rockstar persona is this carefree, laidback sexgod thing, of course he's gonna be flirty. He is flirty with the Us Cracks girls, too (at least I'm getting the impression - they definitely are flirty with him and he doesn't mind, but it could also all be part of the show). So me personally, yeah, I think Kerry is bisexual, but with a strong preference for guys (sincerely, me, a bisexual who also has a preference for guys). Maybe Louise was his bisexual awakening, or a once-in-a-lifetime thing that never happened again with any other woman, or a mix of both. See also: Kerry turns a female-presenting V down when things get serious. Flirting is fun, she is nice and kind and into it, so why the hell not? But he's not gonna lead her on when he notices she wants more than what he's willing to give. Friends can flirt with each other without it turning romantic or sexual. And yeah, I think Kerry is generally attracted to people regardless of what's in their pants, but as soon as things get serious he is infinitely more likely to go for a guy than for a woman.

That being said (and now we're back at Louise), I think it's absolutely fair to headcanon him as gay, too. There is so little we know about the nature of his only (canonically depicted, spelled-out "that's my ex-wife" style) long-term relationship with a woman. This is the dark future, where you can genetically engineer your child to look however you want it to look. Maybe Kerry and Louise were just two sad and lonely individuals that were like "let's raise kids together to fill the void in our hearts!" - and, using Kerry's words, that went as well as you'd expect it. Could be that Louise is a lesbian who wanted a family and kids, and Kerry, being a close friend of hers, said yeah let's do it (and maybe I won't be so fucking lonely anymore and find a new purpose in being a father)! And for reason xyz it was easier to raise the kids if they were also married (something something about getting married to be allowed to have kids - I etiher heard or read something in game once about a 1-child-license or something, again, dark future fuckery could be involved here). Also, historically, there are certainly countless examples of queer men marrying queer women to get their conservative families off their backs. With how little we know about Louise, not even how old she was when they got together, it could also be something like that. And (turning back now to Kerry's flirty behaviour around women when someone else is watching) everything else could have been part of the show - for families, for the media, for the public, for the fans, everything goes.

What I'm trying to say, there's hundreds of ways to headcanon a fictional character's sexuality. Maybe Louise and Kerry were friends with benefits, maybe they fell madly in love, maybe there's more women in Kerry's past than what the game depicts (there's countless women's clothing items across his villa - that could be anything from leftovers of wild parties in which he wasn't involved to him taking home groupies and everything beyond that and inbetween).

You could also just say "Kerry is gay cause I say so, that's as deep as it gets" and that is just as valid. Don't be like me and spend your sleepless nights thinking about this because my brain works in mysterious ways. If you wanna headcanon him as gay because it brings you comfort, wholeheartedly, go for it. If you wanna heacanon him as not turning down your female V because it brings you comfort, go for it, by all means! If you wanna headcanon him as cis, trans, everything inbetween, hell yes, be my guest!!

Kerry is a fictional character, he's not gonna be offended or hurt. And every real person who gets upset about how someone else likes to play with their favourite pixel ken doll then, well... touch some grass @ that person. Headcanons do not take away representation from marginalized groups. Block and blacklist what you don't wanna see and move on, it's so easy (and on that note, anyone who wants to be weird or hateful on this post is gonna get blocked, too xD).

As I said, this is all my thoughts and opinions, if you don't agree, that's fair, I get it, I don't agree with 80% of headcanons I come across (not even just regarding a characters sexuality, but in general). But yeh I'd also love to talk if you have similar views on him!

The pop of Jaskier’s ankle dislocating almost echoed through his body. He knew that wasn’t how sound worked, and bones weren’t that kind of hollow, but the immediate signals of “oh fuck” that shot through his body seemed to amplify the sound in a way that made his stomach churn.

He laid there on the forest floor for what felt like hours, metaphorically kicking himself for focusing more on where his phone was pointing than where his feet were going. At least that deeply ingrained need to be near his phone kept him from flinging it too far away from him as he fell. The rescue team the firefighters said they’d send in their place would be there soon at the very least. Not that he was thrilled for anyone to see him in that condition or prepared to look another adult in the eye and tell them how he’d done this to himself.

Just as he was starting to think no one would ever show and he would have to drag himself back to his car and drive himself to the hospital on the busted ankle, he heard a distant rumbling shout. Propping himself up on his elbows, he could just barely see a bright reflective jacket through the underbrush surrounding the trail. The voice shouted again, this time close enough for Jaskier to understand his name.

Relief flooded his body and he let loose an unhinged cackle before summoning everything he had to yell, “Over here!”

Jaskier could only see the vague outline of a man through the massive ferns and maple saplings, so he wasn’t at all prepared for the Adonis that emerged from around the bend, looking down on him like a gift from a god with a sick sense of humor. He was probably Jaskier’s height, definitely wider and more muscular, something very obvious from how his black under-armor shirt clung to his pecks and biceps. The reflective jacket tied around his waist only emphasized how this man was superhero-shaped and momentarily distracted Jaskier from the most gorgeous stark white curly hair he’d ever seen.

It was only after staring at the man’s ruggedly gorgeous face for a few seconds too long that Jaskier realized his mouth was hanging open and he had been slowly inhaling for about ten whole seconds.

The man graciously pretended not to notice as he picked his way down the slightly washed-out and rocky path and introduced himself, “You’d better not go into shock now that someone’s here. I still need cooperation. I’m Geralt, by the way.”

Jaskier’s mouth immediately snapped shut, and he shoved himself into a seated position, wincing when his leg shifted with the movement, “No shock, still very much in pain.”

Geralt flashed him a disarming grin as he crouched down next to where he sat on the muddy ground, “Yeah? Good. Neither of us wants to wait for a stretcher. How are you with pain tolerance?”

Swallowing hard and attempting not to let the fear show on his face, Jaskier spoke as he watched Geralt slowly and gently unlaced the high-top boots he was wearing, “Uhm… depends on what it is? I got my elbow ditch tattooed, if that gives you a hint?” His voice creeping up at least an octave as Geralt removed his boot had him absolutely mortified.

Handing him the boot Geralt shifted to sit on the trail closer to Jaskier’s foot, “And how’d you deal with that? What made it easier?”

“Talking,” Jaskier blurted, starting to feel his adrenaline pick up as his eyes focused on his foot pointing in the very wrong direction for the first time since he fell. He hadn’t needed to see it to know something was severely wrong, but he didn’t know just how wrong until he registered his kneecap pointing skyward and his toes pointing toward Geralt, “I- uh. I think I just babled like stream- stream of consciousness- poor artists probably thought I was a lunatic. I got a little yelly too- Like now. Help- helped me breathe, though. And the whole vocal folds connecting to fascia and all that.”

Geralt nodded and smoothed his hand over his hair to push his flyaways out of his face, “What are you thinking about, then?”

After a moment of panicked realization he was in for yet more pain, Jaskier answered a little too honestly, “Misattribution of Arousal Theory.”

To his absolute horror, Geralt paused and raised an eyebrow before asking him what that was.

“Its this idea- oh shit OW.” Jaskier let slip a bit of outrage on the ‘ow’, partially at himself and partially because he couldn’t believe this beautiful man had to meet him like this.

“Its the idea…” Geralt prompted, waving Jaskier along as he picked up his heel.

Searing pain shot up his leg, but Jaskier bared his teeth and pushed through it anyway, if only because the pretty man wanted to hear him talk, “The idea that people can mistake heightened levels of endorphins, aka arousal, for stronger EMOTIONS AND ATTRACTION- FUCK!!”

Almost before he’d screamed about it, his ankle was back in place and the pain dissipated. It was still definitely there, but he could unclench his ass and take a deep, if shaky, breath.

“Stronger attraction, huh?” Geralt asked, sitting so he could rest his arm on his knee and giving Jaskier a smirk halfway between teasing and seductive.

“I- I mean it works both ways,” Jaskier panted, leaning back hard on his hands and glancing back and forth between Geralt and his foot now pointing the correct direction, “Can increase disgust and rage too…”

Nodding with an expression that told Jaskier he wasn’t hiding his embarrassment nearly well enough, Geralt rifled through the pack Jaskier had failed to notice when he’d arrived and produced a water bottle, “Whatever you say, college boy.”

Scoffing before he drained half the crinkly plastic bottle, Jaskier leaned into the joke, “I’m an expert, I promise.”

Geralt laughed as he stood up and Jaskier couldn’t help but be a little captivated when the afternoon sunlight gave him a golden halo. Offering his hand, Geralt seemed to be unable to keep the chuckle out of his voice, “When you write this into a paper, can I get a cool nickname? Maybe The Hero or Knight? Or does my name even need changing?”

Taking his hand and letting Geralt help haul him to his feet, Jaskier squeaked, “Oh, I'm far too embarrassed to write this into a paper. Your identity’s safe with me,” right before attempting to put weight on his ankle and collapsing into Geralt’s arms. Jaskier cursed his adrenaline for making his good leg weak as Geralt wrapped his arms around his torso, keeping him far closer than he needed to while supporting his weight.

“I think I need to carry you out of here,” Geralt’s lowered, nearly whispered words held far more than professionalism would allow.

Jaskier made the mistake of looking up into his eyes and completely losing his breath. Misattribution errors or not, he didn’t really care; this man was gorgeous and cradling him oh so gently and looking at him with what he could only call a pleading bid for actual interest.

“I think so, too,” Jaskier whispered.

The piggy back ride to the trailhead wasn’t exactly glamorous, but Geralt made sure to make up for it later when he carried Jaskier back down the aisle at their wedding.

- anything w/ vanderwood

listen. we all had butterflies during that one v route chatroom where we get to talk to vandy. i think he’s a really cool character and i’d love a fresh perspective of the mysmes universe. a vanderwood route might not fit with the rest of them, but he deserves something! i’d be content with a vanderwood dlc or lil spinoff of some sort. i think it’d be really neat!!

i love saeyoung’s route, its so important to me, and i absolutely adore all 11 days of it. and the secret endings are great and everything! BUT, i would love a new version of his route where we start from the same point as v and ray’s routes. i think saeyoung’s route pales in comparison to the another story routes, and would be soso much better from the another story perspective.

- new endings?

some characters just deserve a lil something more. i’d LOVE to see a romantic jaehee ending!! or zen/yoosung endings where they go deeper into the mint eye subplot. the possibilities are limitless!! i also think it’d be cool if they made different endings for when you accumulate more hearts for a different character than the route you’re on. like if i got a ton of saeyoung hearts during v’s route, what then? (this bullet point is the least plausible, as its hard to insert stuff into an already pretty finished game, but speculation is fun!!)

i mean cmon. the new cg has left us all pining for a wedding dlc!!!! i think it’d be such a cutesy look into the lives of the rfa and mc after the routes.

here’s a wishlist with a few plots based on guts by olivia rodrigo that i’d really really love to write! (you know the drill, ♡ or hmu if you want to plot any of them). all of them can be f/m or f/f (except for lacy, lacy is definitely sapphic):

get him back! “i wanna key his car, i wanna make him lunch, i wanna break his heart and then be the one to stitch it up”. gimme two muses who are absolutely obsessed with each other, they can go from love to hate so quickly it would give anyone else whiplash and they wouldn’t have it any other way. we can make them as crazy as we want to (i seriously mean this, please). muse b “won” the last break-up and now muse a is determined to get them back only to be the one who breaks their heart for the last time. but the game is harder than they think and it’s easy to forget the motive once they’re back together.

lacy. muse a is completely, irrevocably in love with her best friend, muse b. but of course, they won’t talk about it. gimme sapphic codependent doomed relationship where you’re not sure if you want to marry your bestie or just be her. gimme pining as they get ready to go out partying and sleepovers with wandering hands and the desperate desire to get someone’s approval but also the self-hate that comes with needing someone that much when they might not get it. it’s all so angsty and beautiful and intimate.

making the bed. “and i tell someone i love them just as a distraction, and they tell me that they love me like i’m some tourist attraction.” basically a self-sabotaging, heart-breaking plot where muse a and muse b thought they could get into a situationship and keep it casual, without developing real feelings but they obviously failed. i’m thinking it could’ve been a summer or winter love kind of thing that ended up terribly ‘cause they were being overly cautious with their emotions and ended up getting the other deeply hurt. we could begin once they meet again (on the next summer or winter break?) and the damage is already done.

all-american bitch. muse a is completely amazing at playing the “perfect girl” role, always smiling softly and saying the right thing even if it’s just a massive façade. deep inside, she’s full of anger and has a desire to seek revenge (for what, you may ask? idk, let's plot!). then comes muse b, who can see right through her act and is determined to bring out that honest, horrible and mean side of her.

bad idea, right? muse a and muse b broke up recently. it was the right decision, all their friends are happy about it, they were not good for each other. that doesn’t stop the constant texts asking each other to come over, the sneaking during parties for a quickie and the jealousy when they both start going on dates with other people. basically i’m dying for the bitter comments and the falling for each other and the “this is never going to happen again” promises that neither of them believe.

📍Worlds 2017 Post FD

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this moment.. discussed, and as I was watching this comp to make another post recently I got stuck on this moment I’d seen several times, but it hit me in the feels more significantly this time round.

First let me set the scene (which you can go watch for yourselves on the full video here starts at 3:30:40).

Once the competition has finished, VM make their way from backstage under the stands to the k+c/ marshalling area for the medal ceremony. But before that they are to give an interview. A camera person has followed them out to this area and there are a few different people wanting their attention. First, someone from the US fed/team who shakes their hands (says congrats) then one of the competition officials asks them something, then the lady who congratulations them and tells them she will do their interview. They can’t go straight to the k+c yet however because the team who competed last (right after VM), HD are still there (and after a disappointing skate are still being consoled by their coaches). So VM patiently wait off to the side. Then it’s here when this gif starts.

TS only had Marie with them in the K+C, however both Marie and Patch watched their skate and knew they had won- despite not being the last team to skate, they had a large enough lead after the short to essentially render them unbeatable (even with his misstep). When they left the K+C after their skate, they unlikely watched the final team or knew the final result as it pertained to HD, so as they came out for their interview they were probably not fully aware of what was happening in the K+C- obviously they saw they were sad but maybe didn’t know their final placement. Both Patch (and that other coach I don’t like) were with HD in the K+C, so Patch comes from there over to VM.

Now, let’s not kid ourselves, we all would like to admit that there is nothing ‘wrong’ with two men embracing like this- and we’d be right- there absolutely is not. But inevitably just bc of.. society (more so social norms of the past- it’s hopefully changing now) this is not the most common thing to see, and therefore, at least for me and I would assume many others, illicits more of an emotional reaction just bc we don’t see it all the time. It shouldn’t be weird- it’s not weird, but it’s still not something you see everyday.

So with that out of the way… what a truly beautiful moment this is.

I’m not gonna go all on again about Scott and what he was dealing with personally that season (iykyk if not hmu and I’ll tell you/look at some previous posts), he’s said even by earlier 4CC that season he was emotionally wiped, so by now, with the relief of the season finally being done, they had won, there was no needing to hold it all together for the sake of competition anymore. You could tell in the K+C after their skate how drained he was, at least to me it seemed it wasn’t just exhausted from the skate or the misstep, it was a culmination of things.

We’ve looked at previous posts the wonderful way T took care of him in those moments in her own quiet way and just being herself- being there with him was everything he needed (being with her (holding her hand/looking in her eyes) was the only time he felt ok 🥺).

But of course they were not alone in this comeback- and they made sure everyone knew that. The support they had from their team was as important as the support they gave each other, and it’s interesting the different ways that support is displayed- the similar yet different ways between T&S and either of them with a coach.

As I said-in the k+c, he was so obviously drained of energy, emotion, I felt so bad for him but also so proud of him and them for achieving what they did that year, and bad that it wasn’t as excellent as they wanted that final skate to be. Here waiting off to the side, it may be the lighting on his face but he almost looks like he’s about to cry, just so depleted of energy. It may have been that he saw Patch walking over and that was the look of near tears.. The way P seemingly doesn’t even say ‘congrats’ to him/ them. Obviously all skaters/athletes in general have special relationships which their coaches so it’s not like this is whole exchange is unique, but just the way there is communication without words- same thing S has with T but in a different way that is unique to them. The way S almost falls into P, like he just needs someone to hold him up bc he’s so exhausted. P goes to him like ‘here, let me hold you’- that’s what S needed to ‘hear’ in that moment rather than ‘congrats’. Also to see two men embrace like that (& esp when you know the relationship in this case is very special). It’s not a hug of ‘congratulations’ because he doesn’t really need to congratulate them, they don’t need that from their coaches, or more they don’t need it verbalised in that way. They have a deeper connection with them and for P+S, P knows what S needs in that moment is to just be cared for as a human.

I’m so freakin attracted to S for this reason- that he’s so open with his emotions and accepting and giving of affection. Describing him/them often as ‘soft’ isn’t a joke- it’s what they are and it’s an umbrella term to describe their affection and sensitivity.

Then if all that wasn’t beautiful enough, the way T just gently steps back a little to give them space. She is not being excluded, P is of course going to hug her as well, she does not find this awkward. She knows S needs a hug from P and so she gives them that space. I’m really not explaining it very well but I know what it says when I watch it and I’m just hoping y’all reading are getting what I’m trying to put into words.

This all goes back to TS’s just unbelievable level of knowing of one another and now having coaches who they trust enough and want them to be on some sort of level of knowing with them. The way she can be part of that hug without being part of that hug. How they can support each other with out being the one hugged/doing the hugging. The way they are so gentle with their emotions towards each other and create a safe space for each other to feel what they need to feel.
