Pencil you’ve genuinely become one of my favorite people to watch for recs, of all kinds, your taste is immaculate and the way you pitch your enthusiasm is magic, so my question is: ya gotta any good fic recs for your many blorbos? Fic recs, you say? Well, I read a ton and I promise you I can't recall every fic I would rec on a dime (I'll remember one later at an inopportune time) but I can definitely throw some of my recent ones. I've recently re-read this, and even knowing exactly how it was going to go, I still teared up a bit. I have never wished harder than I can reach into a screen and hug a fictional character. The emotions and potent and visceral (and still in character!!! everyone is so in character it's so good) and this fic can dig into your soul if you blink. It does take into account S1 and S2 of Monkie Kid, but honestly, you can probably read it without knowing the show plot, if you know your Journey to the West synopsis. (Though LMK is an amazing show and I also highly recommend it.)
Essentially, have you ever considered how an immortal monkey deals with immortality? How a social creature navigates a world of customs, over and over, again? How he copes with repeated trauma? How he deals with outliving his friends? (Spoiler alert: it's not well.) Luckily for Wukong he gets surrounded by a cast of Straight Up Cinnamon Rolls and the oneshot has a happy ending, in that sense, but man it hurts. I never considered the emotional repercussions of a tactile creature such as a monkey being buried under a mountain for 500 years but now I have. Now I have... ;-;

Always Chasing After Something

It's a canon divergent AU of MHA, that takes the synopsis of wait if Midoriya was kidnapped as a kid by the AfO foundation, and man does this plot slap so hard. You can set canon to the side and still get allll of that juicy character content. This is an Erasermic story, but they're already established and it's more focused on parenthood than romance. Because yes, this plot mostly focuses on adopting one traumatized and jaded Midoriya and one also traumatized (as per the usual) Eri. And it's amazing.
It balances the POVs so well. The suspense in this fic is insane and addicting but also the fluff is the fluffiest most wholesome bits you ever did see. This fic has it all. It's so found-family shaped, but with everyone (except maybe Hizashi) in that family being a startled cat that has to be eased into it. Slow-burn found family? Except also with the "I've had these children for two days and if anything happens to them—" mentality at the exact same time. I don't know how to explain it, but the flow is immaculate and the trauma and ptsd is very well addressed, without it becoming too grimdark or anything.

This mad lad managed to turn a month full of prompts into not only a cohesive fic, but a really wholesome and moving one as well. Jason-centric, it's the cathartic joys of seeing a Red Hood from a more emotionally constipated Batman cast getting zapped into a world with a less emotionally constipated Batman cast, with Jason tumbling straight into adopting a tiny version of Tim. And with him, via dimensionally shenanigans, still having a developing siblinghood with his OG Robin Tim. This fic has all of the joys of DC-brand dimension travel and none of the frustrations, because even though it's a lovely whump/hurt comfort prompt month, family fluff is solidly on the table.

Y'all I made the mistake of scrolling past this once but I was incorrect: this is the best thing ever. Utterly amazing. I don't know what black magic was cast to keep everyone in character and explore character arcs when half the cast is five and the other are adults, and keep true to their in-story ages, but damn. This person did it. They did it soooo well ;-;
I don't even care if you know nothing about Twst. I will thrust this fic into your hands. (Though if you do it's sooo good. Cater gets all of his trauma addressed baby. And everyone else too is just asdkjfsdjgsg ughhh trust me it's so good.) This fic really does balance heart-restoring, tooth-rotting fluff and then the most existential, quiet, real-life shaped sort of hardships, and it's masterful. I laughed. I cried. (Legitimately cried: tears exited my eyeballs for a solid five minutes. I am going to draw that scene one day It's in my drafts. It's coming.) Sometimes you get the kiddos decorating cookies and turning them into toys; sometimes the five-year-old is asking why his dad can't pick him up yet again. Sometimes the teacher is getting a little too excited trying to share the joys of teeth hygiene; sometimes the struggles of being an only parent are a little too noticeable. This fic may be ongoing but I don't care; it already has it all, and each new chapter is going to come for my emotions. Which ones? Debatable. Could be all of them, all at once. (It probably will be.)

I've recently reread this one, and to be honest I have read it multiple times. It's short and sweet and it means so much to me. Cyno and Collei's special brand of awkward bean found family just gets me. (Somehow, despite being written before the reveal that Cyno has his own messed up childhood with even more parallels to Collei, it manages to encapsulate that essence so well.) It is a very sweet oneshot of a very (rightfully so) bitter, chronically ill and traumatized girl and an awkward human-weapon-of-a-matra just... traveling from Mondstadt to Sumeru. Just little snippets. Yet each snippet does so much for the characters, in such little ways, and I am constantly in awe.

Great question! I use FireAlpaca do make my assets! Astral Guard, Happup, and any other top-down RPG games I make are all made in RPGMaker 2003. Susan Taxpayer is made in SMBX2 Beta 4, a Mario fangame engine with lua support!

Nope! But I did see a compilation called Minty Being Autistic for Six Minutes Straight that I loved. she's perfect.

I'm so bad at picking favorites! But any season past Season 1 I have a blast with because I feel like it's just more my style. I don't have a favorite episode, but the most recent one I can remember LOVING is the one where Starlight bottles up her emotions because it was REALLY funny.

I've recently been replaying V3 and writing down like every line of diolouge that I see through an important lens(Because I have an unhealthy obsession with this goddamn game and I know like everything about it)
And it really bothers me how like every line of diolouge outside of trials or just any line that isn't fully voiced gets forgotten, Because it leads to so many relationships between the characters being overlooked or mischaracterized to hell and back
The biggest example is Maki and Kokichi's dynamic
Everyone in the fandom says they hate each other without even bothering to listen to each other. That Maki would try to kill him the second he steps into her line of sight. That Maki was always looking for an excuse to kill him
When it's so aggravatingly wrong.
Maki was mad at him for revealing her talent and putting her in harms way(Keep in mind, Before this, Maki thought of him in the exact same light as everyone else) but this only lasts maybe a day or so in canon or just one chapter at most. Because in the post trial of chapter 3...
This scene happens.
And you can perfectly see that Maki talks calmly to him and promises HIM to his FACE. That she's going to work till everyone(Which includes him) can trust her
And she would NOT say any of that if she hated him
You can also tell Kokichi was genuinely surprised by this, You can tell by the sprite he uses(He only ever stops like that when he's surprised or being honest)
Because he's perceived Maki as a cold blooded killer who would snap on him(Trying to kill him) by the slightest teasing word.(Which, ironically, Is how a lot of the fandom perceives her)
And he perceived her that way because of his belief that murder is the worst thing a person can do(And he automatically sees people who've committed it as heartless killers until proven wrong, Which surprises him because he obviously doesn't see it often)
But this perception of her is false and he learns this first hand when she replies calmly to him, Making a promise, and I can't stress this enough, TO HIS FACE she's gonna fix things between them so he can trust her even if she's an assassin
Right after this he makes a comment to cover up the fact he was surprised and keep up the mask he's been playing on the whole game, But honestly I feel like his view on Maki has shifted in some way. Because we already know he hates her JOB and maybe this just helped him separate the sin from the sinner(per say)
I will not deny Maki hated him in chapter five though, But that's only because he
1. Kidnapped Kaito
And 2. Said he was the mastermind(Which Maki believed)
But she would've hated anyone if they did that(Even someone like Shuichi) so it really isn't singled out on him.
And I will also admit before this, Still in chapter five, she was angry at him and suspicious of him(Because he was now making promises to kill people if stuff didn't get interesting), But, Again. It isn't singled out on him.
TLDR: Maki didn't hate Kokichi until she thought he was the mastermind, And Kokichi hated her job but was able to separate her from it

In Strongberry We Trust
I had a private ask about Strongberry recently so here’s some thoughts.
Strongberry is probably the most established KBL studio, they started in high production shorts/microfilms (as, indeed, did all of KBL) and still specialize in them. They also do some GL. They tend to have very good chemistry, work with professional actors (not idols), and will go high heat. They are now a division of Matchbox, and have been around and steadily producing content since 2017. The CEO is adorable.
For YEARS Strongberry was the only studio reliably producing BL content out of Korea. And, sometimes the kisses were even good! For real... there was a time, not so long ago, when all we really got was KBL shorts and most of those from Strongberry. Dark days. Except for Strongberry shining one bright light of BL content. They are reliable, HEA, and high quality.
Hence the fandom slogan...

They often pick odd (or underserved) premises but always execute beautifully. Their stuff is either on YouTube, Gaga, or pay to play on Vimeo, and they do move it around so my links might not always still be working. Vimeo earns them the most money. They are a small, struggling, queer-friendly studio, please support them and their content by not pirating or watching illegally.
Here's my ranking of Strongberry's offerings.
1. A First Love Story
2021 YouTube short in 2 microfilms
Tropes: childhood friends to lovers, home setting, soft tone, grumpy/sunshine pairing
Strongberry are true masters of their craft and yet A First Love Story is still one of the best things they have ever produced. It’s the only microfilm every to make one of my year end top ten list. It’s two episodes of about 8 minutes each that manage to perfectly portray the sweetest friends-to-lovers confession ever. It’s joyful, and gentle with its characters, and a little hot. How on earth do they manage to leave us yearning for more yet completely satisfied at the same time? It’s like the perfect amuse-bouche, that one finger food at that one cocktail party that you will never forget. You are a ridiculous human if you haven’t spent 16 minutes with these two boys. Go watch it now. Or go watch it again. It’s time VERY well spent.
2. Long Time No See
2017 Gaga KBL length series (total 1.5 hr, some places packaged as a movie)
Tropes: secret love, enemies to lovers, secret identity, assassins, catfishing, mafia, higher heat, grumpy/sunshine pairing
One of Strongberry’s few longer pieces and I often wonder whether this is strictly BL. It’s about assassins on either side of a terf war who fall in love not knowing they are on opposite sides. Or do they? Good fight sequences, mature characters, high heat, very suspenseful, AND an HEA. If you like KinnPorsche you will LOVE this one.
3. Some More

Tropes: friends to lovers, hyung romance, self acceptance, countryside setting, soft tone, age gap, country boy/city boy
One of my most favorite of Strongberry’s shorts, about a city boy on a bike tour who gets injured and rescued by a taciturn, but (as it turns out) very gay, farmer. Mentions of pride, adorable supportive cousin. SO CUTE with excellent chemistry and featuring tropes I can never get enough of.
3. Private Lessons

Tropes: student/teacher, jock/nerd, hyung romance, obsession, crush, university setting, May/December, age gap
Given it is age gap and teacher/student (AKA P’ABL’s catnip) it should rate higher on my list, but the chemistry is slightly off. Stil I do love this one for the dynamic. Certainly worth watching especially if this is one of your fav yaoi tropes.
4. Step For You
2018 Gaga microfilm
Tropes: friends to lovers, sports, university setting, crush, jock/nerd, soft tone
About a reporter from the student newspaper who has to interview an older dancer and falls in love with him. This may not have been my first Strongberry, but it’s the first one I remember watching.
5. Please Tell Me So
2021 YouTube microfilm (AKA That's My Mr.Right!)
Tropes: crush, obsession, cafe setting, sunshine/sunshine pairing
Cute barista (played by Han Hyun Jun star of Love Class) has a crush on his customer, musters up the courage to ask him out.

Two pets, a cat and a dog, reincarnate as humans to visit their old owner. Stongberry gave us a full length BL on YouTube! It’s a BL miracle and an endless delight. It was wonderfully cute, unexpectedly hilarious but expectedly silly, a little too poignant, occasionally gut wrenching and with a somewhat expected weird (but happy-ish) ending. The actors playing the two pets must have had the best time. As, indeed, did I watching it. Jealous Milk made me cackle so hard it scared the actual cat on my lap. Choco was perfectly cast, and the chemistry was ultimately decent. In Strongberry I still trust. Thank you thank you, may we have another, sirs?

I saw your RMA Post but before i ask, first i love your artstyle its so beautiful and each time i see it, it makes my day :] and second what are your thoughts of S2 part 1 and 2? And if you can rewrite it what will it be?

First off, thank you so much! It's the best feeling ever knowing my art can make people happy just like that :]]
As for your question, I recently just rewatched a good chunk of S2 Part 2 but some of the details around the later bits are still fuzzy (rewatching em is quite hard for me as the english dubs aren't exactly that easy to find out there unfortunately)
I will say though, rewatching it really opened my eyes to just how much of a downgrade Part2 is compared to S1 and even just S2 Part1 itself, not just in story but in like the voice acting and animation.
The voice direction is a bit off, characters sound flat, and the animation just feels... weirder, if that makes sense. It's not the worst thing in the world though, it's just an unfortunate thing I happen to notice. They also changed some of the VAs I think (liek Rema's) which was a strange decision but alright ig... There's also the reusing of so many games instead of new ones but oh well... Despite all my problems with it though, I like the inclusion of the new characters (Manus and all the other Leos Valiants). The Leos are all such silly guys :]] I do wish the DV7s got more screentime and played a bigger role though, the first episode for part2 really fooled me into thinking they would lmaoo
S2 Part1 still holds up, certainly not as good as S1 but still, it's got charm! I love the setting actually, Old City is such a bright and colorful place with like all these abstract and messed up winding pathways, it's so weird and funkyy, I dig it a lot!
So pretty!! God... just like how funky the cities look with all of them being like giant floating islands, it will always be cool af to me
Ik most of my followers don't care about runningman much but in the off chance some non-rma fan sees this, look at Tree City (pic below), I love it so much
Although... sometimes it really does feel like Season 2 is where the studio decided to lean more into it being a children's show. It's a lot less "dark" compared to S1 which is a tad disappointing. Like just compare Akong's battle (where the dude literally uses a bunch of the old guys to power up his thingy 😭) compared to CG's big mech fight. Still, I liked it! I like the neat guardians (the lil pullulu spirits who guard the gate, Vivace and Ensemble twins my beloved <3).
ALSO ALSO THE IRON BEAST, I can always appreciate a big robot guy aha
That's all I really got for the ramble aha, I'd say more stuff about S2 and maybe my views on it will change overtime but as of now, I haven't even really gotten around to properly finishing it yet. I remember watching it waaayyy back but it was all in korean with zero subtitles 😭 luckily, I am in a server with people sharing english versions so I'll probably watch those when I get more free time!
I really just miss talking about this show really and I feel like I've largely outgrown the fandom in old spaces where I used to talk in (like Facebook groups and Amino lmfaoo), so it's absolutely awesome to find RMA fans over here on tumblr!

So far in 2024 I've finished 11 books, 1 in January and 5 each in February and March (I think I was trying to relisten to gideon the ninth in January and then the library took it back so all my stats are off there).

Looking over the list, I think I'd recommend all of the books that I finished. This is How You Lose the Time War was so good that I basically had to lie down for a while after I finished it. There were a few more that I simply did not enjoy that I stopped reading, but I think that's my right as a reader.
I think I've discovered that I, as a reader, really need some humor in my fantasy books. I just can't do the "everything is grim and nobody is funny and there's some magic" style of books; I can certainly enjoy parts of books that are serious, but you can't ask me to spend like 18 hours with nobody being funny at all.
I'm also glad that I discovered some authors that I like- I've currently got two more books from TJ Klune checked out.
There are also a lot of repeat authors here. I've missed Martha Wells' writing since I got to the most recent Murderbot, and I really liked Witch King. A friend of mine was able to send me the dramatis personae so I could learn how things were spelled, and I'd just like to formally ask all audiobook distributors to include a link to a PDF with all the character name spellings or to put it in the description or something. I simply cannot interact with fandoms if I only know how to pronounce something, not spell it. ALSO I discovered that there's now a full-cast version of Murderbot recorded? I'm so loyal to Kevin Free's narration but I'm intrigued so I placed some holds.
Similarly, I'm excitedly waiting for What Feasts at Night to get off my hold list and also for the audiobook version of the newest Saint of Steel version to be published, I'm reaching the end of what my libraries have for T. Kingfisher.
All in all, I think I've been decently consistent with prioritizing reading, and I'm continuing to be glad that I'm back into audiobooks. I might want to try and incorporate print books more again, but it's just so nice to be able to be reading while I'm at the jewelry-making bench sawing at stuff or while I've been deep-cleaning my entire apartment.

Two Hearts - Brenward, knock 4 times if you can hear me
Recently I've begun going through some of my favorite seasons of Doctor Who to find parallels to Stranger Things, but I got caught up on the detail of Time Lords having two hearts and decided to take a detour.
To start, Stav @heroesbyler has spoken extensively about Brenner's Time Lord/Doctor coding/all of his connections to Doctor Who in general (very good posts btw it's required reading tbh, here's some links), and with some of the other stuff going on with Brenner... it made me want to look a little more closely at the two-hearts phenomenon.
Time Lords have a binary vascular system, meaning they have two hearts pumping blood at the same time. There are several reasons why Time Lords have this physiology, but one of the more basic ones is that it's simply to differentiate them from humans in a substantial way.
Time Lords, on the outside, look exactly like a human, so having a second heart makes them distinctly inhuman when you otherwise might not be able to tell. @aemiron-main has touched on lots of interesting stuff about shapeshifters and doppelgangers making their way (or having already made their way) into Stranger Things, and it's possible that Brenner may be one of them. Point is, while they may appear "normal" on the outside, there's something more beneath the surface/hidden.
Two other major factors that justify the binary vascular system in Time Lords are 1) it allows them to "navigate deep time," and 2) allows them to regenerate into a new body whenever they die.
Let's start with point 1)

Now, I did just accidentally stumble down a rabbit hole with the "Web of Time" link, leading me to a "machine-heart" which was built to anchor and lock in the "structure of history," a ceremony in which the obelisk (staring at irl DnD Vecna) the "Eye of Harmony" was its center, of which also gave the Gallifreyans the ability to time travel and regenerate, and this ceremony resulted in ultimate disaster involving the Great Vampires (looking at all the blood transfusions and Brenner's vampire coding that Stav has talked about) which killed a bunch of Gallifreyans, creating a crater on Gallifrey that came to hold an "Untempered Schism," a sacred space-time rift, and...
Like, maybe I'm reaching here, but a lot of this just feels Brenner to me. Something about looking into the Vortex/center of history vs Brenner seemingly poking through timelines to get what he's looking for (specifically thinking of him watching the "same" One disintegration moment on way more screens than he needs, not being able to "let [Henry] go," as well as him trying to "make contact" with the Shadow in TFS in an attempt to fulfill his lifelong devotion to Project Rainbow... like, I'd plant Brenner somewhere between "mad" and "inspired" as soon as he was made aware of how far this could go).
And building off of "without adverse affects to their wellbeing" vs Brenner's blood transfusion project with "Henry" in TFS to make more children with the same blood type, and how it's possible that the blood type may be attributed to their powers, but also to make them immune to Dimension X/the Shadow like "Henry." And, so, would Brenner have tried to do the same thing to himself? James @henrysglock has spoken about the blood transfusions and some of the science in it in posts like this one.
And something about the Gallifreyan children being taken at 8 years of age, the age El was when the 1979 HNL massacre occurred, to stare into the Schism as a rite of passage. Not only was El's face-off with One a "rite of passage" of sorts (thinking: she made a decision to fight One instead of join him, it awoke the true strength of her powers, etc.), but I also instantly think of Brenner pitting all of the lab kids against each other, making them "fight" one another in order to rise in the "ranks."
And THEN there's the Untempered Schism reminding me so much of Walter Bishop's window into the alternate universe in Fringe which is another huge influence for Stranger Things and blah blah blah, see? Rabbit hole. I'm barely scratching the surface of what I read up on here, but I need to bite my tongue for now. In short, all this, I feel, serves as further evidence of Brenner's Time Lord parallels.
Point is, the 2 hearts are intrinsically linked to a Time Lord's ability to travel through space and, specifically, time. And given how NINA feels a lot less like a memory machine and a lot more like a time machine (as spoken about by Stav, James, Em, and several lovely posts by @givehimthemedicine)... well, something rattles about Brenner being in control of what's happening, or able to influence it in his favor, or at the very least is somehow able to see the span of time/multiple timelines, and through that, he's able to create a specific series of events to get the outcome he wants.
(Not to mention all the weird ways in which Brenner seems to be messing with the Creels from the get-go, the way One says Papa uses everyone like pieces in a chess game, and his ability to cover up the truth/create a false narrative starting all the way back in season 1. But anyway.)
As a brief aside, there are parallel universes within Doctor Who, but the Doctor doesn't travel between them regularly (at least in the 2005 reboot's early seasons. I have no idea about later seasons or the original series). Like, there's no consistent interactions with multiple universes at any given moment, it's only for Big Plot Lines (ie. some episodes in season 2 and the overarching plot of season 4). And, from what I remember, the Doctor doesn't necessarily see all the possible timelines in their universe, rather they sort of just know what is and is not meant to happen. I just wanted to specify that because I feel it's a key difference between the series.
As for point 2), I have much less of a tangent to go on with that. Essentially, I think we can all agree that a Time Lord's ability to regenerate when they die and Vecna's regenerative healing are pretty similar.
Another fun tidbit is that, technically, Time Lords are only able to regenerate a total of 12 times. Obligatory midnight reference. I should also note that the Doctor can now regenerate more than 12 times, but I can't remember the exact reasoning/don't feel like going to find it. Basically, it's just a special case.
So, if Time Lords regenerate, and Vecna regenerates, and Vecna seemingly got up and walked away after being flambée'd, and Brenner has seemingly died multiple times and then miraculously been okay, and Brenner is paralleled to Time Lords and specifically to the Doctor... it's all the same guy! Brenner isn't dead! Somehow, he's regenerating! And it's specifically tied to the two hearts!!!
Now, another detail in Doctor Who I want to touch on is in the two part special "The End of Time," which is set shortly after season 4 ends. I'm not going to get into the plot of the episodes or anything (that's for another post because... boy, are the parallels paralleling. Bad dreams, visions, the Master being brought back from the dead and being unable to sate his hunger for energy, etc.).
However, the one thing I want to focus on is the sound of drums that plagues the Master (who's another Time Lord and recurring nemesis of the Doctor). It's 4 beats in rapid succession which repeat ad nauseam in his head. But what are they?
He first began to hear it when he looked into the Untempered Schism as a child, and though it was originally labeled as merely a symptom of being driven mad by the Schism (and is later thought to be the sound of one of the other characters knocking on a door), the President of the Time Lords draws the link to the Time Lord heart beat. So, a driving component of these episodes can be specifically connected to the beating of two hearts.
I was talking to Stav about it the other day, and I can't remember who she said she got this information from and if it's anything that's been confirmed, but she mentioned to me the link between these 4 drumbeats and the 4 chimes of Vecna's grandfather clock, alongside the fact that they both exist in the head of the Master/Vecna's victims rather than being something inherently tangible.
While I was reading up on all of this, and as you can obviously tell, I found that a lot of it specifically paralleled Vecna and the Mind Flayer, but I want to point again to the initial posts from Stav that I linked at the very top which detail all of Brenner's Time Lord/Doctor coding. With that, it becomes pretty damning that Vecna/the MF also have all of these Time Lord parallels.
In a similar vein, Em has spoken here about the weirdness with Henry "being" Brenner and vice versa in TFS, and James has spoken here about the weird connections between Henry -> the Shadow -> Brenner (I know there's other posts too but I cannot for the life of me find them!!). And then you bring in how "Henry" in TFS, One, and Vecna are all shown to absorb or "consume" their victims... basically, I want to emphasize how muddled up all these characters are with each other.
Now, obviously (as far as we're aware) Brenner is a human, or was at least born a human. And while Brenner himself may not directly be the Shadow/MF or Vecna, I think with all of these overlapping parallels it becomes clear that there is a distinct possibility that he somehow became those characters, and I think the Time Lords having two hearts is a fantastic hint at that. While the Time Lords naturally have two hearts/it's a quirk of the species, for our purposes, it's pretty great symbolism for two beings occupying the same body/mind/space, which is also something ST is not unfamiliar with in the slightest, it's just a little more "possession"/virus coded rather than physically linking two bodies (from what we've seen so far).
Which leads me to my next interesting tidbit I came across when looking into the Time Lords' binary vascular system: the Doctor may have been born with one heart, and only after they regenerated the first time did they develop a second one.
This is because they were from an "Oldblood House" on Gallifrey. A House is basically just a bloodline or family of Time Lords. I can't find a solid reason for Oldbloods starting with one heart vs Newbloods starting with two, but it certainly makes me raise my eyebrows at the Doctor starting off closer to human before becoming distinctly Time Lord vs Brenner starting off human and... becoming something else?
As I linked above, Stav spoke about the possibility of Brenner consuming Henward's blood in order to give himself powers/strength/immortality/whatever it is he wants atp. Here's also various links to posts by James about how one of the Ones looks an awful lot like Brenner in that Dimension X sequence, and this post about how Brenner is a lot like Vecna.
So, Brenner and One get merged with each other (whether on purpose, by accident, or a strange mix of both), and bada-boom! Two people in the same body with crazy new abilities, thus becoming a Vecna.
When I was talking about this initially with James, Em, and Stav, James mentioned Brenner's whole spiel about "becoming whole" and what it would mean if that sentiment was applied to himself, and what it would mean if the hearts didn't merge. And Em mentioned it being a way to symbolize Brenner and Henward being part of the same being, but Henward being partially removed from what's been done because he's simply merged with someone else who is to blame. And what with Will's whole talk about Mike being "the heart" of the Party, and the solution to basically all of their problems throughout ST being love... I don't think I have to spell it out too neatly that it would be quite the thrill if Vecna as some combination of Brenner and One was partially beaten from the inside by one of his own "hearts."
Which, this is only tangentially related but I don't really know where else to put it and I think it's interesting enough to include, one way to kill a Time Lord for good is to pierce both of their hearts at the same time.
Gallifreyans can technically survive with one working heart, but they're greatly weakened, and from what I remember, it could result in them dying and trigger a regeneration.
When I was first reading about this, I instantly thought of how frequently the "two man rule" appears in ST. Most obviously, in st3 when the Key has to be shut on/off using two different people. James has spoken about this before, specifically with how there's always a "secret third guy" thrown into the mix (ie. Murray in the st3 Key sequence). However, I won't go into it in-depth here right now because James takes the cake on that conversation. I just wanted to point it out because I thought it was something worth putting a pin in!
To summarize:
Brenner has a boatload of Doctor/Time Lord coding, but so does Vecna and the Mind Flayer/the Shadow. That, matched with Brenner's incessant searching for "Henry" and being unable to let him go, the blood transfusions in TFS, all of the blood consumption language around Brenner, Brenner's lifelong devotion to Project Rainbow, and the constant conflating of Henry and Brenner throughout the series... it feels apt to take Time Lords having two hearts and overlay that on Brenner as further proof that he may have tried merging himself with Henward in some way in order to give himself greater power.
Again, while the binary vascular system is something simply inherent to Gallifreyans/is just part of their biology, having it so tightly linked to their time travel and regeneration, matched with the alternate timelines and time travel in ST, the blood transfusions, and the rapid regeneration we see in Vecna and the fact that Brenner is somehow still standing when he should have been dead a few times over now... it certainly makes me wonder just what's going on under Brenner's skin.
And if we learn that whatever weird Brenward combo we have that possibly created one of the Vecnas has two hearts, I'll shit my pants.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly vld. I have a Good Omens fic and always want to write more and a few fandom that I'm tempted to write for, but I'm still very much in vld.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? - Breaking point (vld, sheith) ; A little mouse told me (vld, sheith); Flowers and Blood (vld, sheith); A cure to loneliness (Good Omens, ineffable husbands)
This gets long so I'm adding the rest under a read more!!
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! I do! Sometimes I can take a little long but I really enjoy talking with my readers!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Just a call... (vld, gen) I think! It's an open ending, but it ends up on a frustrating note (which was the point).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh man, they almost always have a happy or at least hopeful ending. Let's go with A little mouse told me (vld, sheith).
Oh, hey, fun anecdote! Someone commented on Stay with me (vld, sheith) to tell me it was the 200,000th work in the "happy ending" tag! They had just witnessed the tag going up to that number with my fic!
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not so far, thankfully. (Happened once on fanart though, but it was just one dumb comment by an anti).
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I haven't so far, I'm not really interested in writing it (never say never, though!).
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Well, I did 2 fairly recently for a crackship event! It was loads of fun. The craziest might be A Mysterious French Chef, which started as a Hunk&Remy idea, but ended up involving Hunk, Allura and the space mice for vld, and Linguini, Colette, and Remy for Ratatouille, and everyone interacting pretty significantly. I really loved mashing the 2 universes, and for something that started as a "crack" idea, it ended up working surprisingly well!!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of. I've had some original (anonymous) poems that I cowrote with a friend plagiarized down to using our actual pseudonym, but that wasn't in fandom or even online!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I don't think so.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! Five times Shiro broke the rules, and one time Keith did with VirdisDrachen (vld, Shiro&Keith). It's based on a roleplay. Other than that, while it's mostly an artist+writer big bang collaboration, I think Square_Orange and I did discuss the plot a fair amount for Let It Snow! (vld, sheith).
I also have 2 fics that are remixes of other people's work, done for the sheith remix event : When you lived! (the “Enormous, within your small hands” remix) inspired by a fic by @annaofaza, and High Score! (the “I want us forever” remix) inspired by a fic by Tragedy_Machine.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? To no-one's surprise: sheith.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I am fairly good at finishing my wips, even if I do have some stuff that has been waiting for a while. I still have my notes about Keith grieving Shiro between s2 and s3 and how the team tried to support him and each other but how things became tense, that I wrote just after s3 aired! I still hope to get to it one day!
There's also the collab with VirdisDrachen tbh because we dropped the rp after a while and I wouldn't finish this alone. So I'm afraid this one will stay as is.
16. What are your writing strengths? I think I'm good with dialogues and characterization? Themes like friendship, found family are my jam, too. Of course it's subjective.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I am learning, but action and fight scenes are *hard*. (But I also love them? haha). On the exact opposite side, stories with very low stakes are sometimes hard to write, when it's just 100% fluff and no conflict, unless it's like, a short scene... It's easier with some emotional or romantic build up (ex mutual pining > getting together) but otherwise I really have to *think* to plot the fic. I'm so used to stories centered around conflict (in the literary sense, including inner conflict, not necessarily an actual fight).
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I agree with @starlightvld that if it's a language that I'm not personally fluent in, I'd look for a native speaker who might want to help or avoid it. Except maybe for conlangs, like Sindarin or Klingon. Although if I ever write in a fandom with something like that, I would f*cking love to get insight from one of these people who actually studied them and are fluent. In a more general way, I'd be cautious that it actually brings something to the story, that it makes sense to use the language that way, and to do it in a way that doesn't confuse readers too much (unless I am purposefully writing for those who know the language, I guess). I will say that I do love different languages to be aknowledged, like for vld fics that actually dig into the paladins having different languages, and the Galra and Altean also, and so on (ex fics where they have universal translators and then there are issues when they break or they can't rely on them for whatever reason).

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Oh, that's hard, I like them all for different reasons. I do enjoy Carry me away for the sheith saving each other vibes. A little mouse told me (sheith written from the space mice pov) was such a fun exploration! Honestly, the most kudosed ones in question 4 are all fics I am proud of. To chose a lesser known one, I also love A special day , a vld gen Hunk-centric fic!

Thank you! This is such an important point that a lot of people miss and I think fuels a lot of negative feelings people have. We as outsiders hyper focus on the ships and certain interactions, but that's such a small part of their lives. That anon making everything Jungkook does about how the fans see their relationships and by extension him being a bad boyfriend/friend because of it...I don't know if you have seen all maknae line solo stan communities but they all hate each other and project that hatred onto their faves as well, as in saying their fave actually hates the other members. Tae stans are dragging Jungkook constantly and using him as a punching bag during Tae's debut, there are definitely Jungkook and Jimin stans who think Tae feeds antis as well.
It's all just bs fandom infighting and very little of it has to do with who they actually are and what their lives and relationships are like. And the fans take some of this stuff so seriously, spewing the most vile hatred and making threats against them for perceived injustices to the others through what are completely innocent and largely meaningless actions, and some turn their anger at the fans' behavior into anger at the members. It's a pretty messed up situation, and I don't know how I would navigate friend/relationships under that kind of scrutiny.
Also, thank you for actually mentioning one of my favorite Taekook moments and my number one moment if we're talking the kind that defy platonic explanation. The nape kiss at Citi Field gets largely overlooked and I'm not sure why, but one of the reasons it's so special to me is I was at that concert. It gives me some added context I think, because I can tell you that was not for the audience. I was in the stands and watching on the big screen monitors and all we saw was Tae and Jimin (and I have a theory that Jimin knew what Tae was planning) approaching Jungkook from behind, and then Jungkook looking kind of flustered and I was like "...what just happened?" 😂 It wasn't until I was back at my airbnb and talking to another friend who had been there when the first clips from the side of the stage started showing up on Twitter and we were going insane. They released a DVD/Bluray of that show, and you can confirm on there that the official cams did not catch that kiss and in fact you can see Tae watching the monitor and cameras as he approaches to make sure what he did cannot be seen. There's a very specific reason I think Tae did that, but I won't discuss it openly yet. Maybe someday.
For me, that's the moment after two years of being a Taekooker where it went from 99% to a 100% for me that the relationship between those two is more than just friendship.
The Bon Voyage season 1 cuddles/kisses still blows my mind as well. That really kicked off the Taekook drought in official content. That was the last year we saw just the two of them in a V Live together, and there not another one for four whole years and we all know they had chaperones in the room the next time.
I've been thinking recently that if I was to make a Taekook top ten right now, those two moments and probably the "I love you" signs during the Chile concert where Jungkook was sick would be there...but the rest would probably be solo era/2023 because this past year has been full of hugely significant moments and I did not expect it. But looking back, it makes sense that in solo era, it is Taekook's bond that became more apparent than ever. Because they are involved in each other's lives in a very significant way that goes beyond members of the same band, or even friends.

I think they have a very complicated relationship with their fans in general, and with shippers especially. I don’t think they appreciate any shipping mentions in their lives for instance, not even the correct ones. It must be weird having people comment on your relationship and asking questions trying to bait you into giving a hint while you’re just there to talk about your music.
I really dislike what this has done amongst maknae line solo’s. It is also so weird to me to actually see fans talk about members hating each other. Hate is such a strong word, and is in general not actually a feeling people very often have about each other. So for fans to think any member actually hates another while there have been no signs of that is so out there.

Yknow if were talking about rarepairs/crackships….how about Sammy/Grant? Listen hear me out- i think I started shipping them a few years ago back during the og fandom days, but since my interest in bendy has been reignited, so has my interest in this ship lol. And im ngl, have you ever noticed how similar Grant’s office is to Sammy’s Sanctuary? They both play that same whispering effect when you enter them, they both have an ink pipe in them, they both have a bendy item in them (sammys bendy plushie and grants bendy clock), both have writing on the wall…
Even just beyond that, its implied they died the same way too, from drinking ink? And how they both seem to put the blame on others for joeys mistreatment (sammys whole “useless sheep” bit in that newspaper and grants “STOP THE WASTERS!!” bit on his office walls). and even though theres like, BARELY ANY GRANT CONTENT IN CANON, he does have a minor connection to the ink demon, as one of the flashbacks in chapter 1 is of the ink demon on level S near his office, and although this probably doesnt mean anything, the fact that the first time we see sammys cult is when we open the door to the archives via a handle we had to get from grants office specifically….👀
Plus just the miscellaneous stuff like grants va being a musician, one whose song was specially placed in sammys office- idk, *marge voice* I just think they’re neat! :)
THATS AN INTERESTING ONE… I’ve seen it around a fair bit lately but it feels recent??
Before I dive in, I do wanna address the ink-drinking – I’m a little biased, since I tend to headcanon the ink-drinking as unique to Sammy, but I feel like Grant also drinking ink is not something that’s implied so much as a headcanon that got popular? We can pretty easily accept that Grant transformed at SOME point, and the shared whispers imply that they were both under some inky influence, but that doesn’t tell us that ink-drinking was to blame. The note in BatDR about Grant looking ill could certainly be used for an ink-drinking headcanon, too, but as far as Evidence I think all it tells us for sure is that Grant was Very Stressed. [also trying to merge BatDR Grant and BatIM Grant into one entity seems messier the longer I think about it but I CANT GET DISTRACTED BY THAT NOW, THATS FOR ANOTHER POST]
ANYWAY, all the little things about this one having a valve in that one’s office and this one being voiced by a guy who did a song that’s in the other one’s office are neat but ultimately I feel like that stuff isn’t want sells a ship, for me – the biggest thing is a compelling dynamic between the characters.
There’s so much between these two that complicates them –
-- good money and hiring his own people were Sammy’s two big asks when he took the Music Director job, so he could easily be a source of financial strain and seen as one of the “wasters” Grant is so frustrated with, and it’s also not hard to imagine Sammy blaming Grant as one of the useless sheep who can’t do his job right once paychecks start coming in late. Add to that Grant being described as having no creativity at all in the Employee’s Handbook, and trying to imagine what he would relate to in Sammy “my special interest is music” Lawrence. Though I don’t know, that one could be fun. Does Grant like music despite not “getting” it? Can Sammy and Grant relate to each other through the intersection of music and math? Or does Grant just conceptualise music as a kind of math, which Joey thinks is boring but Sammy knows is not far off, and Sammy with his partially jazz background is INTRIGUING to Grant because what he’s making sounds good but isn’t following the rules…? IDK, Grant and Sammy learning to understand each other through understanding each other’s work is a neat thought.
On the surface they’re both frustrated men who want things to be under control and are frustrated with Joey’s spontaneity, but while Grant is having a meltdown over WHAT WILL JOEY SAY?, Sammy is screaming about pleasing a god rather than a man and certain that he’s found the one who will Set Them Free. Grant’s characterisation could be taken in a lot of directions, but it’s not hard to imagine him as the phobic to Sammy’s counterphobic.
Which is INTERESTING, because you get a dynamic that seems to work, as Sammy gives the impression of a leader who can offer certainty and something to depend on – and you CAN depend on him – but he’s actually a follower at heart who desperately needs someone to answer to, someone to believe in, and I don’t know if Grant can be that someone. Sammy and Grant BOTH want to be the one behind the scenes with someone else in the spotlight. On the other hand… we know Grant’s massaging numbers and fudging things and illegally hiding assets. It wouldn’t be hard to characterise him with a bit of ruthlessness as well, someone who’s not afraid to break the rules when he feels he has to; while Sammy seems frustrated, overstimulated, and perpetually at odds with a system he doesn’t fit in, Grant is willing to learn the system well enough to bend the rules to his advantage and know how to get away with it.
If you go with this take, you get a pair that could be dangerously effective but also dangerously fragile. I don’t think they would challenge or change each other so much as just reinforce each other’s ruthless caution – as long as they’re in cahoots, they’d be loyal to each other and value no principle above each others’ well-being. But the instant either of them mistrusts the other, they’d combust.

Best and Worst LI from each series
Inspired by this post by @choices-binglebonkus from a couple of years back. I came across it recently and I felt compelled to do my own.
Keep in mind that I haven't played some of these stories in a while, and there are a handful where I haven't even started or completed them. So a lot of stuff here is subject to change.
TCATF
Best: For Kenna: I'm not sure. For Dom: probably Sei because I loved their relationship in Book 2. But it's been a while.
Worst: For Kenna: I'm still not sure. For Dom: either Rose because of how she's written out of Book 2 with the inability to transfer data, or Will Jackson with how he was so obviously a last minute addition.
[MW: Haven't played yet, and IIRC this one didn't really have any LIs or romance.]
[TFS: Haven't played yet.]
ROE
Best: As pleasant as the 3 main LIs were, all their romances with MC felt very empty and rushed, which to be fair is expected when Nana's forcing you to marry by the end of the summer. As for the other characters, it's still hard to pick one that's the best cause I didn't find any of the romances particularly remarkable. I'd have to go either with Party Twin's LIs or cousin's romance with Chaz because they were the only ones that didn't feel like clusterfucks.
Worst: Like I said, all of MC's romances were empty. But since I'm including the other characters' romances too, easily Audrey and Elena. Audrey was a very unpleasant character towards Bookish Twin in Books 1 and 2. And same for Elena in part of Book 2 and all of Newlyweds; she had every right to be upset at Brother for hiding his past ex wife, but she acted incredibly petty and immature over it.
ES
Best: I didn't really get to romance anyone in my playthrough but either Jake or Estela. Jake has some really funny one-liners and nicknames. Estela I saw has the "Dont. Touch. My. Husband/Wife!!!" line that makes me really want to do a romance with her as a m!MC. I love protective gfs, I aspire to be a protective gf.
Worst: None of them because all of them are great characters. But if I had to choose... maybe Quinn? She didn't feel as fleshed out to me as the other 3. But it's been 2 and a half years since I last played so yeah.
LH
Best: None of them really grabbed me, but I'd have to go with either Leah or Ben. Ben is just a sweetheart, but I also liked the interactions between Leah and MC in Book 2.
Worst: Mark wasn't bad, but I couldn't buy into the relationship with him as well as I could the other two.
THOBM
Best: Eleanor for sure. She is partly responsible for my realizing that I'm not straight. She's supposed to be this stoic ghost woman, but gets super flustered and blushy when you flirt with her??? Bye bye heterosexuality.
Worst: Victor wasn't bad but he was just... a total non-character. Yeah, a rare story where a female LI takes the spotlight and a male LI is sidelined.
TRR: I haven't really played past Book 1, but I've already deemed Liam as my favorite LI. Though I am biased because this is the first book I started when I first got into Choices back in February 2021 (I'm a fandom baby I know), but he won my heart instantly in that premium scene where MC can take him on a boat to see the statue of liberty. And throughout the rest of the book he's just a very sweet and pleasant character. So I'm just gonna leave it at that and not deem a worst LI just yet.
Hero
Best: It's been a long time but I strongly remember quite liking Grayson. He was sweet and cute. Kenji was also pretty decent but I don't think I liked him quite as much as I did Grayson.
Worst: Eva isn't a bad character, but she was introduced way too late into the story for me to truly care about her.
OG HSS
Best: AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN ZHOU AIDEN-MOTHER-FUCKING-ZHOU!!!!!! Sweet mother of all things holy how am I supposed to talk about this in only one paragraph???
As if it wasn't obvious, I love everything about him and he's easily my favorite Choices character of all time. For one, I love male characters who are more on the soft and gentle side. Aiden is definitely that, and his tendency to get flustered and blushy is adorable. For two, he's passionate, dedicated, just very earnest and down-to-earth. And especially in Book 1, we see how he struggles with self-esteem. He's passionate, but he doesn't consider himself as such. He considers himself a failure for the screwed up halftime performance. He doesn't feel he knows how to communicate to MC right and thinks lower of himself for preferring to communicate through music.
I found a lot of these aspects very relatable myself, outside of music though, because I can't play an instrument to save my life. But I do have a passion for stuff like drawing, writing, and editing. And I think relating to Aiden so much sort of added to how authentic the romance route with him and MC felt for me. There were a couple of moments where I could have my MC sort of connect with him– the rooftop scene where MC can say that seeing how passionate he is inspires them to do better, their scene at homecoming in the band room where MC can say that social interactions don't come easy to them either despite how confident they can be.
And just... the whole romance route feels so earned and well-paced? I mean I'm sure all of the routes in HSS are like that but I especially love it here. How you can give him time of day to listen to him play piano, slowly help him step out of his comfort zone, I love how protective you can be of him in Book 2 and how you can be there for him when Isa and his parents are punishing him, and how he's then being there for you during the Book 3 drama when you're accused of sabotage. And all the moments such as becoming official with him, him confessing his love to MC and how you can confess back... it just all feels so organic.
Also the romance route with him hits so much different if you romance him as a band kid. You get extra moments with him, not to mention when you're about to play his song at the spring concert and they say how "there's a glint in his eyes you haven't seen before" and after you play it they say "his eyes gleam with pride" like HELLO??? That extra bit of connection they have when they're *both* musicians???? Shit like this is why I sing my praises to this trilogy so much.
Worst: None of them! Okay but if I had to choose... well, this is gonna pain me to say this, but Michael.
I adore his character arc and he's my second most favorite HSS character and Choices LI, but when I tried romancing him (and I did so twice), I noticed he actually felt a lot more underdeveloped in comparison to the other LIs. Specifically in Book 2, as he's the only character who isn't really struggling with anything. He felt very lacking in presence for the first half of that book– even moreso than Emma, whose subplot didn't even have anything to do with the main Isa plot. And so Book 2 kinda felt like this big gap in the relationship journey that he and MC can have.
Then again, maybe he and Evie Ayana (my MC) just don't have all that much chemistry and I should try romancing him as a brand new version of the MC.
ILITW
Best: My personal favorite is Lucas, but honestly? It's a tough tie between him, Andy, and Ava. Andy I'd say had the stronger character arc, but I personally related more to Lucas. Ava however is certainly the most memorable and witty of them.
Worst: Connor. He's not bad and I quite liked some of the banter between him and MC, but he is lacking in ways that make him stick out like a sore thumb. All these other LIs are characters attending school with MC, that MC has been friends with since childhood, who have all experienced Jane's death up-front as kids. Connor lacks all of that, being Stacy's older brother of 2 years and not really part of the friend group. And he doesn't really have much of a character arc like the others do to make up for that. I don't mind MC romancing outside of their close childhood friends, but it just felt a bit harder to connect with him on the same level as the others.
HFTH:
Best: Wyatt was probably the most memorable of the bunch.
Worst: Nick was annoying, but he did get better in the second half of the story. Holly was alright but very bland.

PM
Best: Hayden without a doubt, though I'm certainly very fond of Sloane too. Hayden is a literal robot, yet they still feel more like an actual human being than like 90% of the customizable LIs we've been getting. The whole arc with them basically having an existential crisis upon realizing they're an android, then eventually going on to start a new identity for themselves... I loved it. And as a bonus, the customizable aspect is kind of integrated in the story itself rather than being a meta choice.
Worst: None of them. Maybe Alana and Khaan, cause they seemed to be somewhat pushing some romance with them in Book 2, but it felt very muddled and unclear.
BB
Best: All of them. But I'm probably most fond of Kamilah "I'm *her* queen. And she's mine." Sayeed. Jax and Lily are close seconds though as they're incredibly memorable (also the mass fandom hatred for Lily that was apparently a thing... yeah very sus to me. why did y'all hate her.)
Worst: None of them. I'd say maybe Adrian didn't stand out quite as much as the others?
[VOS: Haven't played yet.]
AME
Best: None of the LIs really stood out to me but my favorite would probably have to be Jen, she was sweet and always tried to help MC.
Worst: Derek had to be the most lackluster of them all IMO.
[D&D: Haven't played yet.]
ATV
Best: For MC: I was most fond of Kepler the buff queen and Meridian the sweet medic. For Eos: Gee Zekei, how come PB lets you be a romance option for two playable characters? For Pax: Holmes is precious.
Worst: IDK honestly. I wasn't a fan of Zaniah's betrayal or whatever it was. But IDK.
[BSC: Haven't played yet.]
HSS:CA
Best: Objectively speaking, Skye. She's the one thing that HSS:CA enjoyers and HSS:CA critics and haters can agree that is good about the series, and honestly that's deserved. Everything about her character storyline is pretty damn immaculate. That being said, I romanced Ajay and I'm personally very fond of him. Although I didn't care much for him in Book 1, Books 2 and onwards make him a much more sympathetic and compelling character. And personally, I tend to chalk up the whole siding against MC thing to be lazy OOC writing considering A) he'd warned MC about Danielle in the earlier chapters and B) directors generally have a responsibility to stay unbiased in these kinds of situations, and given how seriously Ajay takes being a director, realistically I think he would have tried to stay unbiased and tell the other accusers to fuck off. PB, you did my boy dirty.
Worst: Rory. I didn't hate them and they're a pretty decent character on their own, but they're easily the weakest LI of CA and of HSS as a whole. They have zero character development over the trilogy. Book 1 forcing our MC to crush on them and agonize so much over wanting their first kiss with Rory on stage was obnoxious and unnecessary, and it didn't help that their entire personality in said book didn't really go much beyond "popular theatre heartthrob". They try so hard to force us to like them by flaunting how popular they are and having Cunt and Nasty– sorry I mean Clint and Natalie– constantly fawn over them. Rory was thankfully no longer forced in Book 2 and had somewhat more character (also the way they called out Morgan's hypocrisy and single handedly destroyed her campaign is peak Rory), but the whole election plotline did nothing for their character. Book 3 gives them some sort of conflict with their parents, but it's just the group thinking Rory's dad is cheating only for it to be the good ole misunderstanding cliche.
ILB
Best: Tom. Parker was pretty adorable too, but nothing beats the part in the premium lake day scene where Tom wishes he'd won a giant teddy so he could put it in the passenger seat and be able to go into the fast lane and then MC can give him the teddy they won (if they did win).
Worst: Danni for how she can be needlessly callous towards Parker's memory if he ends up leaving the group. Even if he's dead. It comes off as extra hypocritical if Danni ended up caving to Astrid's temptations as well.

ACOR
Best: Either Syphax or Cassius for their loyalty to MC.
Worst: IDK.
TH:M
Best: Eris Huang is an icon. "Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals".
Worst: I didn't care for Sonia. I mean she was alright and I liked her redemption arc, but she just didn't vibe with me as a LI.
ROD
Best: Colt is the only LI I felt had any real character depth, any real significance, any real reason for me to give a shit about him.
Worst: The pushing of Logan as the main LI felt very forced, unnecessary, and undeserved. Like... there wasn't anything all that special about him.
OPH: I haven't really played past Book 1, but I'm quite fond of Bryce.

NB
Best: Katherine the "I don't like being saved" was fun to romance as a male MC. But either Vera or Cal would have to be the strongest character-wise.

Worst: Also Sam Dalton because of all the "+Desire +Desire +Desire +Desire +Desire +Desire" and shit
QB: I've twice attempted playthroughs of this and ended up neglecting both of them halfway through Book 1. But I did quite like Ian/Ina.
TUH: I started a playthrough back when it was releasing to all and then ended up neglecting it by like Ch10. I'll need to start playing again, but I remember being quite fond of Mr. John Somerset.

Best: All the LIs were pretty compelling characters, they just had shit stories with a shit MC. But of the three of them, Ava was probably the most compelling to me.

Best: IDK. I'm tempted to say Jack/Jacqueline because I did like their banter with the MC, but other than that they were rather bland.
Worst: Like I said, Jack/Jacqueline felt very bland outside of the banter they could have with MC.

Best: Morgan was easily the most fleshed out and compelling of the two LIs.
Worst: Bastien is derivative as all hell. Seriously, pick up any werewolf-themed YA erotic story and the male werewolf LI in it will almost certainly be identical to Bastien.

Best: This is a tough one. Chef Flint's character was a lot more derivative and I personally preferred being around Julia(n). But Julia(n) was also an incredibly useless character, you could remove them from the story and nothing important would change.

Best: As much as I didn't care for the series, I did find both LIs pretty decent. But of the two of them, Aislinn is much more fleshed out.
Worst: Gabe, who wasn't bad but wasn't nearly as fleshed out as Aislinn.

Best: Manu was a pretty interesting character. The relationship with them is pretty straightforward, but it was interesting and even a bit sweet later on. And apparently your bond score can determine whether or not you survive in the last chapter? Also this is the only single LI story I know of where you can choose a more platonic route with the LI.
Worst: None.

Best: I think I liked Angel the most. She was fun.
Worst: I'm not sure really.

Best: None. None. None. Noooooooooooone.
Worst: Fuck Reagan Thorne. Worst LI on the app ever. I'll admit Book 2 does go a little more in-depth with their background, but as someone who has been in a similar situation, God they botch it horribly because 90% of this book is spent doubling down on Reagan's toxicity. And just when MC finally gets the self-respect to leave them after that awful "When a woman agrees to be my sub she agrees to obey" line, they then throw it right in the trash with how easily she ends up getting back with them. Bruh throw the whole LI in the trash.
COP
Best: Trystan is a fun character and their relationship with the MC is very refreshing. They're both equals for once in a single LI story, and it'll be interesting no matter which gender you choose for each character (whereas in most single LI stories they're really only interesting if you play as anything other than wlm).
Worst: None.
UT
Best: None.
Worst: Kit is the textbook definition of a soulless personality-less customizable LI. They try to push them as this "player" except it's moreso just people flocking to Kit rather than Kit flirting with others.

Best: Clarke was a fun character and the female white sprite also contributes to me knowing I'm not straight.
Worst: Devon was nice but they were kind of bland and useless.
TCH: I've only played Book 1 so far and haven't yet started Book 2, but I found Kieran pretty decent and I enjoyed their development.
ID: Gabe was sweeter and I kind of liked their interactions with the MC, but Cas was more interesting, so I'm not sure. But there's a Book 2 on the way so I can't properly judge anyways.
MAH
Best: Tyler! He's arguably the least developed of the LIs but he was my favorite because he's just so babygirl. I miss when we had true softie male LIs. Also, bonus points for the dialogue changes about him realizing he's not straight if you romance him as a male or enby MC.
Worst: Not sure. Maybe Donovan because he could be a bit callous to the MC in the earlier chapters. I get why he was acting like that, but some of it did seem a bit excessive. But even then, he's still a very fleshed out character and his callousness doesn't go on for too long, so it's hard to, in good faith, deem him as the "worst". But I will also say that Stevie being MC's childhood best friend felt very poorly set up.

Best: None of them. Rowan was underdeveloped and Agent Grey was mostly very one note. They have some alright interactions, but I personally found the two hookup options Lou and Alexis far more interesting.
Worst: Like I said, Agent Grey was very one note. They seemed to be trying to go for the whole James Bond trope with having a companion that he has a bit of bantery romance with, except there wasn't much flavor to the relationship between MC and Agent Grey. Grey's character is pretty much entirely just being a tsundere.

Little rant about live action remakes, specifically HTTYD
Okay, so sometimes when I am reminded that HTTYD is getting a live action remake, it kinda makes my stomach hurt. Why? Let me tell you.
I watched HTTYD as a kid and kinda forgot about it, but in 2020, when the world was falling apart, I turned to it and fell in love. Like obsessed. I hyper-fixated on it for months. I watched all three movies, the short films, RTTE, and a few episodes of DoB that I could find for free lol. I read the fanfics and have obsessed over fan-art (seriously guys, whoever is talented enough to draw, keep it up! I love y'alls fan-art so much!!) I listened to John Powell's music while I completed my online homework, it felt so stable to me. The characters, the music, the beauty of the animation, it was comforting. Especially during such an awful time.
When I heard that there was a live-action film in the works, it literally made me sick. I refuse to watch the D*sney remakes because they're all soulless cash-grabs. But, I also admit that I have never been as attached to any of the Mouse movies as much as I have been with HTTYD. One of my friends asked me why I am not happy with this because he knows I love the series. So here is my little rant and reasons as to why I am dreading this so much.
1) Did the fans ask for this?? No. It's not as simple as, "just don't watch it". When this movie inevitably makes a ton of new changes (like all live action remakes) those changes will become actual canon. Whatever changes are made will affect what we know about the world of Berk and the characters of it. We as a fandom, have done a pretty good job of appreciating these characters for who they are and the story for what it is and growing it through some pretty great head cannons. Well, guess what, that could all change. Whoopie doo!
2) The degradation of Animation. Animation is an art form. Not a genre. It is a medium. Yet, time and time again it is presented as something childish and something that cannot be taken seriously. (I've recently had an argument with my friend because he thinks he's much too mature to watch animated movies). Each and every-time an animated movie is remade, it is a slap to the face of every animator who worked their butts off to make it as beautiful as possible. And in an effort to make the remakes more realistic, they are often washed out and use bland colors. Can you imagine the unholy offspring we'll get with Toothless and the other dragons when they are made "realistic"??

these scenes are GORGEOUS. They are not realistic, why should they be?? This is a series about dragons, not taxes, it doesn't have to be realistic. The colors, the textures, every element works together, beautifully.
Some honorable mentions: the scene in HTTYD 2, when Stoick is walking into the blacksmith shop,,, the way the light shines on him as he walks... ugghh BEAUTIFUL
the sand on the beach in THW when Toothless is drawing a picture of the Light Fury, I swear that sand is real. The animators went HARD and for what?? for the company to come in only a few short years later and decide that it is too unrealistic or not valid enough as an art form?? i'd be pretty upset.
3) This will cause unnecessary trends on social media. (This is specifically a rant that stems from my own lack of confidence, sorry in advance) Look, I hate to say it, but I naturally gatekeep stuff. I like to feel unique and like my interests are my own, so it pains me when the internet will find something niche that I love and ruin it with unnecessary trends. For example, I love Avatar, (yes... the "blue one" :/). So for years, the fandom was kinda controlled, I appreciated the artwork and content from real fans and honestly I liked when nobody even really knew the Avatar fandom was still going strong. But, with the release of The Way of Water, all of a sudden, everyone on TikTok and Instagram became the biggest fans ever or at least pretended to be. One of my friends is an aspiring makeup artist and she did the Na'vi look despite never having seen either movie. All of a sudden, this special thing I was interested in, blew up. That is what is going to happen to this fandom at least for a while. I won't be able to find real fans because everyone will just post all kinds of things and create new trends using John Powell's music. I'm all about getting new fans and being welcoming to actual fans. But it won't be all fans, it'll just be content creators needing to stick with the trends. People who haven't seen any of the HTTYD films since they were children are going to act like they've been waiting for this moment their entire lives. Idk, I'm kinda cynical, if you couldn't tell. I truthfully like ppl actually becoming fans and I don't want to discourage that, but I don't want to lose the real fans to the internet trends. and I am afraid that I will. At least for a few months after the release.
4) Dreamworks only really exists as a middle-finger to Disney. With Disney really sucking it up with their live actions in the past few years, and Dreamworks KILLING it with their new and exciting animated movies (Puss in Boots anyone??), I really thought they would continue trying to capitalize on honing their skills as animators. But, it makes sense that Dreamworks is trying their hand at something Disney does, but trying to make it better. I actually think Dreamworks will be better. I mean, we still got Dean DeBlois, which is a major win. Plus, in general, Dreamworks tends to take their time and create something actually good. So, I don't think the quality will be the problem, I just wish they wouldn't stoop to Disney's level.
5) We're wasting time instead of making a new work. Okay, let's say that Dreamworks HAS to create a live-action film. Create a new story. We wrapped up HTTYD with a pretty bow, now, let them sleep. Leave the story alone so you don't f- it up. Because as we all know, the more you f- around, the more you find out.
Look, as I said earlier, I don't think it will be crap quality or even a bad movie. I'm glad we get Dean DeBlois again and I really think that is going to make a huge difference. I'm not even upset by the casting of Hiccup and Astrid. I just don't want to lose one of my favorite franchises to watch it become a deflated, boring, bland reenactment that continues to be just another cash-grab. It makes me genuinely sad.
As long as the series is over, I feel like nothing can touch it. Nothing can ruin it. But, the second it is resurrected from the dead, it becomes fair play for anyone on the internet to regurgitate it and ruin the magic and now, this entire fandom is at the mercy of a few writers and one big corporation determined to one-up the competition as well as content creators looking for a new trend to get-in on.
Anyways, I love that as a fandom, we're all still here. I am proud that y'all are still making art and fanfics (keep going, pls). If we stick together, we can weather this storm. And maybe, if we all cross our fingers, we might get a decent new movie that is fun to watch and is respectful to the original material and is something us fans can approve of.

Mostly Supernatural because it's my most recent fandom and I have extreme destiel related brainworms - but I do also still write Izuocha/My Hero Academia stories from time to time. I've officially 'left the fandom' but I find the ship cosy to write, so they're easy to come back to every so often. I would really like to get back into writing for Genshin too at some point! There are so many characters and their personalities are all so barely defined that it's a lot of fun to shake the grab bag of them and play around with ships and tropes.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Ahh they're all MHA. I wrote them at kind of the emergence of the MHA fic scene though. So it was just good timing. It's crazy that they've remained my most popular fics even this many years later wow.
Also fun fact, the two ships here had fandoms that actively hated each other because Ochako is in both of them. I was living my best multi shipping life.
Also also, the jump in number between #1 and #2 is wild. BBB is a fandom experience I will treasure forever.

Oh, easily easily Don't Stop Dreaming (Izuocha/MHA) I cackle like a classic disney villain every time someone leaves a comment about how they didn't notice the main character death tag and the ending broke them. Did I put it in the middle of the tags simply to make missing it easier? maybe so.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Okay this one is hard. Because 99% of my fics are fluff. They pretty much all have a happy ending lmaoooo
The cheesiest happy ending might have to go to Cat Thief (Reddie/IT) though - that whole fic I tried to capture the vibe of a cheesy Hallmark movie and then for the ending I really dialled it up to ten. Cavity inducing honestly aaa
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I don't think so??? I've had the odd piece of criticism here and there, which makes me like >:( because I didn't ask for crit and I'm doing all this for freeeee

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not anything I've ever published (because it's not very good asdfghjkl) It's honestly very vanilla and mostly about the ooey gooey feelings more than the smut itself, so I don't know whether it would really appeal?
Either way any smut I ever decide to post on AO3 would have to be anonymously. Too many people I know in real life know my Izupie username and just the thought of one of them googling me one day and finding my AO3 is bad enough even without any smut fics being on there RIP
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Hmm, not really crossovers? I write AU's of other worlds - like, I wouldn't write the cast of IT meeting the characters of Soul Eater, but I wrote the characters of IT in the world of Soul Eater. Does that make sense??
Two birds with stone because Dances of the Souls (Reddie/IT/Soul Eater) is also the craziest 'crossover' I've ever written. I saw some fanart and got inspired, and to this day I can't believe I wrote like 10k words of that.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I did !! Many manyyy years ago. Someone sent me a message to say that they'd noticed somebody had reposted one of my fics but just changed the characters. Can't even remember what fandom they'd made it for.... They'd stolen a whole bunch of Izuocha fics and just changed the names! So a few affected Izuocha writers including myself sent them messages asking them to take the stolen fics down and within a few hours their whole profile had been deleted.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No!! But I would LOVE that !! Anyone who ever wants to translate any of my fics, please know the answer will be yes!!
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
I'm the process of that actually with Seal My Heart (Izuocha/MHA)!! It's been such a fun process but I feel so bad because I'm really bad at procrastinating and getting distracted by working on multiple things at once and I don't have a whole lot of free time, so I am probably the worst collab partner you could have!!! (sorry!!!!)
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I usually change this answer based on my current fandom tbh! Right now I can't imagine any ship affecting my brain in quite the same way as Destiel.
I think it's the ALMOST of it that has given me infinite brainworms and hurts my soul. And they have just the most delicious dynamic. They're best friends. They're fighting. They're soft. They're gonna burn the whole world for each other. They're wearing silly cowboy hats. etc etc
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I wish I had it in me to write part 2 of Barks (Reddie/IT). I had this whole extra plot with all these conspiracies and saving the town and ultimately wanted to end it with Eddie getting turned into a werewolf too, but it had already gone on to nearly 100k words and I just wanted to write other things asdfkl
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hmm.... I would say maybe the way that I create a mood? I like to really appeal to all the senses when I write to kind of make you feel like you're there in the scene. Changing my writing style to add to the atmosphere is also something I think I do quite well? Like short choppy sentences for tension etc etc.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue. Dialogue all day. If everyone could just, not speak? That would be great. I really struggle to capture characters specific voices.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic.
I can't say I've ever given it much thought... I think it would be okay as long as you're VERY sure that it's correct.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Ahh that would be my Yu-Gi-Oh self insert fanfiction all hand written in a little notebook that I wrote as a child :') I wrote me and a friend into so many adventures with the Yu-Gi-Oh characters. It's extremely cute.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Beep Beep Beep without a doubt. I had so so so much fun with it. I have a whole notebook filled with plans and notes about each character (even the ones that appear for small scenes or are only mentioned!) and I just had a blast the whole time coming up with what cameos I could insert and little references I could scatter around. I had backstories planned out that didn't even make it into the fic but helped inform how this universe had changed the characters from their canon counterparts.
Updating it and having people anticipating the updates was such a buzz I can't even explain. I would get messages about it, some very kind artists drew fanart of it! The whole experience was all I had ever wanted as a fanfic writer. I loved every moment.
On a more recent note - I haven't written anything as self indulgent as Flicker, Fizzle, Pop (Destiel/Supernatural) for a long long time and I LOVE that for me. I had soooo much fun! And I was so excited to update it because I had so many people excited to read it! Very very fond of this fic <3

sorry, if im bothering you with this (you don't need to anwer if you don't want to), another one of these discourses about bayonetta i've seen with queerbaiting with bayojeanne and that one spoilers thing. do you agree it's an actual thing that happened?
Okay, so BIG SPOILERS AHEAD (metion of them, but not explicit) and lots of text

So let me start by saying, usually, as a gay person myself - I've been in this situation. When you clearly have a dynamic between friends of the same gender but it's written much more deeply and with the care and with the actual tropes that get used for het couples and filled with love (and that word gets thrown around, but like, we talking about any kind of love). That happens.
But what also happens - is that writers / devs usually never confirm these. Fans and fandom do more job of putting lgbt rep into something that originally doesn't really have it or hidden in narrative (pushed, that also common with censoring) and then act like devs or writes or show runners own them something they invented. Again, it's a complex issue, because sometimes authors take time or have to push for relation ships (LoK / adventure time) and sometimes authors take credit for the ships fans popularised (that one supergirl show comes to mind???)
However, in Bayojeanne cause, I can kind of see where people coming from because: a) Bayo herself is an ambiguous character, people been saying for ages that she's bi coded (i can't speak on that honestly) b) Kamiya called Bayonetta and Jeanne couple - not a pair, not duo, and compared them with other couples (that also semi-canon / canon)
c) a lot of promo material art, just as concept art depicted them in way that would couples would. especially couples that have "different side of the coin" dynamic and that complement each other
some examples: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5
Fanservice? Sure. Still. A thing that did happened.
d) the scenes they had were also common for couples, shots on the reaching hands (the recent one i can think about with cloud and tifa in ff7remake), bayonetta holding jeanne "bride" style, bayonetta holding jeanne when saving her soul (do i need to mention how later they did that scene in familliar way with luka and bayo but just without the kiss, riiiight) and like, i could go on, but you get the idea
d) And what I also think Bayojeanne isn't just that kind of ship that was "oh fans hyped it up and they never interacted in canon" or something. It's in the story. Again, maybe it wasn't explicit and writers probably didn't intended to be that way (maybe Kamiya did but looking at bayo3 who knows), because once again it's a common thing when writes do this type of dynamic and "oh, the bond is so strong" and that kind of thing has a right to exists, if it wasn't for the othert stuff i said about.
Again, it's a complex idea and situation. And many things matter in the case. And I'm not a professional and not that type of person who cared about it in Bayonetta of all things.
Does that falls under "queerbaiting"? Hell, if I know, because I never expected them somehow to get canon or anything (and if you go through my baoyjeanne tag you know I love them dearly), cause not only being a game from japanese devs but also that I know better now because I got baited enough in various media before.
Can I blame people for thinking this was queerbaiting? No, I don't think I can. Especially because it's just bad for the script. What this implies of such strong and impowering fantasy character as Bayonetta is even worse.
And like, Bay///o/lu//ka doesn't in any way erase Bayonetta's bi-coding or her being into Jeanne (afterall it's not the same Bayo and we got multiverses now🙄) but I think people are upset because it was executed reeeeeally poorly and untasteful for such character. And people saying it's kind of character assasination are right in a lot of ways.
Hell idk why anyone skips the part that Luka also didn't got any development and got thrown in this mess as well.
And also THAT PART. What happened with it - who knows what was even going on in the writing room of Platinum.
