Leo is streaming! His model is dressed in a Sonic the Hedgehog jacket, a white shirt with a Trans colored unicorn, black short-shorts, over the knee blue socks, his mask, and white/blue sneakers. He's on his inflatable blue chair. River is sitting in a inflatable ring slowly spinning. He's playing Stardew Valley and currently attempting to see how far he can get in the Skull Caverns.
Leo: So recently, since Dad went on a vacation, me and my bro tried to find anything interesting among his collection of stuff from when he was in the film industry. And you would not believe what we found!!
Chat is excited, and asking for the answer.
Leo: So apparently there was an attempt to make a Lou Jitsu family sitcom!
Chat is a bit confused, but also amazed by this information.
Leo: Yeah, they never made it, but Pops has alot of the pre-production stuff, like the pilot script prototype. So apparently it was a family based sitcom where Lou Jitsu was going to be the Dad who was once a champion martial artist, who would teach his kids life lessons, and how to kick butt, that part was considered too problematic with parents.
Some of the chat said they could see kinda how it would work, but yeah it wouldn't fly with the parents that would be worried about their kids copying everything.
Leo: There was some notes on who the show runners wanted to cast, like apparently they wanted Tang Shen to be the Mom? Don't know how well that would work, but hey the biggest set back would've been casting the kids! They would've had to find like 2 to 3 at least vaguely Asian kids to teens to act as the kids to make it somewhat believable!
Chat is in some confused agreement, some pointing out how hard it was for Aisian actors during that time, let alone finding child actors!
River: Not to mention how they would seriously mess up the trying to represent an average Asian household, or how they believe it would be. Though Lou didn't really seem embrace his heritage much.
Leo: Yeah, many good points, heck we barely know much about how the star actor wanted this to happen, but it's still very funny to think about. Well it would probably work in the current way they make shows, but not as well.
River: Oh yeah, there was a few shows where they had the main characters be martial artists, but they would have to make Lou the Grandpa!
Leo: Wonder whatever happened to the guy? Oh shhhh-oot it's late, I didn't get as far as last time. Back to the farm before I pass out.
The topic was changed, but there was lots of conspiracy theories being tossed around in the chat. Yes, Leo was proud of the slight chaos he caused in the chat, and purposefully left them hanging.

What do you think would happen if Tails Sails Mangey and Nine all interacted with each other?
See, I was thinking about this all week. Mainly due to my theory, and just the pure nature of Tails’ the Fox. His character remotely resembles a child; in both psychological, and emotional aspects. While he is physically a child, his brain and maturity level is not. Its far exceeds the average intellect and ability to comprehend. Making Tails’ far more complex than most people realize. So, I’m basically going to explain how he would really only be on his wavelength. Literally all will but the communication will be tad different with each counterpart of Tails’.
Tumblr media
Starting with Nine:
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Tails’:
To me, he’ll be the easiest communication-wise. I think the two Foxes’ would be wary of each other; mainly due to Nine’s hard drive on not being compatible with Tails’s personality and his viewpoint of the world. Nine wouldn’t really want to get into Tails’s character, or really understand his tinkering. While, he has similar habits, and thought-process, I honestly think his openness and willingness/over-friendliness would honestly frighten Nine.
Moving onto the actual interaction between the two. I honestly think Tails’ just be nervous, Nine’s got a pretty judgmental attitude and defensive personality. Making it very hard to really understand his thoughts, which Tails’ usually doesn’t have problems with. ‘Cause everyone in his head is statutory, but himself? With another version of himself? Oh, boy, where does he even begin? He’d be the first initiator, due to anxiety eating him up. “Um… so, you’re supposed to be a counterpart of me? Heh, well, you do look a lot like me—“ “Just stop talking.” Nine would quickly shut him down at first. Mainly due, to the frustration of Sonic forcing them to do this.
“Err… do you at least want something to eat?” Nine just slowly turns his head, and looks Tails’ deadbeat in the eyes. “Nah, I’m good with this bark of wood. Thanks for asking.” I think Nine has a sarcastic defense mechanism around others’, (Sonic’s circumstances are diffrent) especially over people who try to know him. Which is hard for anime, it’s extremely out of his comfort zone; he doesn’t like interactions. Knowing this, he’s especially reluctant towards Tails’.
I think Tails’ will catch onto this extremely quickly; and back off. For a couple of weeks, it’s awkward, and very difficult to really know how the two feel about each other. Nine does soften up once he starts to catch Tails’ mind explore and invent endless amount of things in his meantime. I think this is where Nine is the first initiator. To Nine’s surprise, they get along well, especially when it comes to analyzing; making Sonic pretty relieved.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Sails’:
Honestly, I would think they’d kinda ignore each other. Both well-aware and about how the other feels about each other, making it kinda hard for them to open up. Awkward, and tense when around each other. I’m talking about, a what if, this was all happening after the events of Prime. It’d still be this way, due to Nine’s lack of social awareness.
I still think Sails’ give Nine a chance. Like actively trying to hang out with him, ask him some small questions on how he invests or makes things. Small little interactions, at first, but I honestly don’t think they’ll become nearly as close as Nine and Tails’. Which isn’t much of a bummer, because Saul’s’ prefers other characters, like Amy, Tails’ himself, Sonic, and his captain, Dread.
They’d team up with each other, and fight alongside each other if they had to. They won’t be their first choice; but a reliable duo. They would trust each other with weapon-making, and temporary cooperations. Extra points, if they wink at each other to take initiatives, and smile about winning.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Mangey:
The poor Foxes would never have a coherent conversation. Genuinely would not know how to interact with each other. Mangey is too savage and nervous to ever really properly calm down and actually sit with Nine. Nine’s too way and paranoid something bad is going to happen if they tried forcing him. The two are too mentally unstable to be able to handle each other’s emotions.
It’s like asking a baby to walk without falling. It’s a lot of trail and error. It’d take at least a month or two or them to even be on the same emotional wavelength. Mangey’s broken English and bad sense of social order makes Nine extremely uncomfortable. They try not to get angry or overwhelmed by each other; because they both understand that the other is trying. (Keeping in mind about the after events)
“M-me like y-ou.” “Huh… you’re improving. That’s excellent.” They will warm up with each other over communicating and improving speeches. Nine would basically become Mangey’s language arts teacher. Teaching him all the basics about talking, writing, and reading. Sonic will help by holding up pictures of simple things.
Tumblr media
Next is Sails’:
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Tails’:
He’s by far, going to be the most mentally stable and simple out of the three counterparts. Easily, because he’s pretty much mostly like Tails’ himself. Making things communication-wise a whole lot less stressful for Tails’. The only downside is the pirate talk. Tails’ might hinder with the new communication system; making it slightly harder for him to properly respond. Which won’t be much a of a problem, as it quickly gets solved, because Tails’ easily adapts.
Also, I think Tails’ would find it super interesting and unique. Making them probably the fastest to become friends. They’re buddies, they’re improving each other’s inventions, making sure the other isn’t lost. They’re practically brothers. They’d both keep each other company and joke around a lot. Making Dread kinda annoyed, because most jokes are inside jokes about highly complex things.
They’d keep each other’s back covered, if they would ever get into a fight. They would never abandon each other, and make sure they’re both are safe. They’d boost each other up and uplift themselves. Alongside of double teaming with Sonic and Nine! They’re unbeatable. Tails’ would also dork out about his helper hand. Finding it effective and extremely cool. Tails’ now has one he can use! Occasionally, though.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Mangey:
Honestly, same way as Tails’. It’d basically be like having a kid brother. Sails’ already took care on Mangey in season 3, but more normalized. Sails’ keeps Mangey out of trouble, and calms down his nerves. I would feel like Sails’ honestly follows Mangey around out of curiosity about his behaviorism. Constantly noting it, and the improvements, habits, etc.
Tails’ would definitely join in. Not making a habit of it, like Sails, would, though. It’s merely out of keeping him protected and innocent. As in, he’s never, ever, stepping foot inside Eggman’s factory or laboratory. Not unless it was extremely important, and Mangey’s friends were in danger. Also, it’d feel like belittlement after a while, and if Mangey showed enough attention-improvement, he could be sent on special missions.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Nine:
I think he’d be pretty indifferent about Sails’. Like Tails’. Like I said, it’d take a large while for them to warm up with each other. It’s not they actually don’t like each other; but they’re a tad suspicious of each other. Both tensed, awkward socially distant foxes. Nice combo… but Sonic turned things around telling them both to just take it slow.
They’re the slowest and subtler find than all of the other three. They just don’t notice each other, and it’s not a bad thing; but they have less appeal towards each other. They will work together, and share mostly the same opinions; and make sure that the other is okay, but that’s all.
Tumblr media
Next is Mangey:
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Tails’:
Tails’ would give him a lot of snacks. Plus, a bunch of stolen Chili Dogs from Sonic. The two would be usually spotted eating and going over simplistic ways to teach Mangey real communication with Nine. Both Nine and Tails’ would take turns with Mangey helping his improvement of social and personal development.
Sails’ helps with the emotional department, making sure he doesn’t get too overwhelmed. Tails’ acts like character for Mangey to see scenarios of conversations and situations. I feel like Mangey is a visual learner, so it’s ultimately easier for him to comprehend after seeing what happens. That also includes spying on others’, but mainly Sonic, and their friends.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Nine:
He would leave Mangey alone at first. Kinda steering clear, because he doesn’t really like unwanted attention or company. Knowing Mangey would give so much of that, he tries to keep off of his track, and kinda cower away. Not to be offensive; but because he’s not entirely used to having friends.
Not until he decided to give him the opportunity to grow. Once Mangey starts to show signs of large improvement of social skills, emotional maturity and development, Nine doesn’t entirely mind when he’s around. Since, by this point, Mangey sees Nine as a bigger brother.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Sails’:
He would voluntarily help Nine and Tails’ out making improvements with Mangey’s abilities and growth. Especially with the language and emotional support. Making sure that Mangey doesn’t get too overwhelmed by anything; he’ll also be the supplier of treats.
He would also help Nine come up with a series of quizzes for Mangey. Making sure all of the studying is actually sticking with him. Nine would create the question, Sails’ would make the answer. Tails’ help out giving small hints, and Mangey would get a treat if he doesn’t need any hints. He would get a whole snack, if he gets a 100 for the quiz.
Tumblr media
Next is Tails’:
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Nine:
The two would be awkward at first, but the more they found in common about each other’s habits, they became more comfortable around each other. I think Nine would be emotionally tired, and deprived of any sort of intimacy with love; and Tails’ deeply understood this. Instead of Sonic being Nine’s only friend and well, savior, Tails’ basically became his newest friend.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Mangey:
As I have said this over and over again, (lmao) Nine would advise, commit to Mangey’s growth. Finding some joy out of seeing his counterpart grow, and improving. It makes him feel like he means something more rather than something of nothing. Tails’ sorta feels the same way; and it makes them more comfortable and less anxious around Mangey. Mainly due to the wavy their shatter verses are; it’s hard for all four of them to collectively get along at the same time.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
Sails’:
They would love each other. From intelligence to little quirks about certain things. Tails’ would indefinitely make little gadgets for all four; but mainly Sails’. They would have the most in common with each other. They’re little collaborations with each other to make each other’s lives in their own verses easier. Especially for Nine. Like, face-timing each other, occasionally, send each other a bunch of letters.
─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─
I’ll whiff up headcanons later over them. They’re such a cute couple of interactions; but I wouldn’t mind adding some angst to it next time. Those will most likely appear in a few headcanons. Thanks for this question; it was really fun writing this out, especially individually! (I love making myself suffer)
This is them.

IM SO SORRY IF I'LL SPAM UR INBOX FROM NOW ON AHAHSHHAHAHSHJAHA BUT I LOVED THE INVENTOR HC FIC SM I LITERALLY JUMPED AROUND W EXCITEMENT WHEN I SAW YOU ANSWERED IT
may i get the sonic trio (separately obv but only if you take three characters at once :)) with a reader that's literally the definition of this cat
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LIKE I MEAN THEY'RE USUALLY WITH THEIR HEAD IN THE CLOUDS WITH AN EVERLASTING BRAINLESS EXPRESSION AND HAS A HARD TIME PAYING ATTENTION FOR A LONGER TIME TO THINGS?? like sometimes they doze off during conversations and kind of forget things easily BUT they r very invested in the other's interests and super curious about them and does everything their little pea brain can handle to keep up with them and are really affectionate 😈😈😈😈 do with that as you wish<3
Your request are literally the funniest ones I’ve done so far lmao
Some of my friends have actually said I look like that cat cause I zone out all the time and have that expression, the cat above is @Bigfootjinx on Instagram <3
Sonic, Tails and Knuckles with a reader who zones out a lot
Tumblr media
»»-----------►
Sonic
Tumblr media
Okay so as we know, Sonic likes to talk, a lot.
And he likes to rant about stuff he’s interested in, it could be video games, comics, etc
And you do really like the stuff he talks about but if he talks for awhile (Which he normally does) you tend to zone out while he’s talking
He can usually tell if you zoned out because you have that exact expression of the cat.
He can’t help but laugh whenever you zone out because your expression is just so funny
But once he’s had his fun watching you stare off into space he’ll tap your shoulder or wave is hand in front of your face to get your attention
You’ve tried not to zone out while people are talking by interacting with what they say, just saying simple things like “That’s so cool!” “Woah!! Can you tell me more?” Etc
But you don’t interrupt what they’re saying or try to take the spotlight off of them, you just say simple stuff like that to keep your brain interested
Yet even if you do try saying stuff like that, you still tend to zone out while they’re talking
You also forget things easily, as an example, Tom asked you to go get Sonic and the others and tell them that dinner is ready and as soon as you walked off you immediately forgot what Tom asked you to do
You kinda just stood there trying to remember so you wouldn’t have to ask Tom what he asked you to do
You just slowing walked over to Tom and said “..What was it that you wanted me to do again..?” And he laughed a little and told you again. He thinks your forgetfulness and zoning out is funny, it doesn’t bother him though
Sonic loves how affectionate you are, you like to hug him a lot and sometimes you hug him a little bit to tight.. you don’t mean to though!
There’s been countless times where Tom or Maddie would walk into the living room and see you laying on the couch with Sonic laying on top of you about to fall asleep
He just thinks that you’re very comfy to lay on and he finds you running your hands through his fur very comforting
Tails
Tumblr media
He would recommend medicine for you to help with your zoning out
If you’re hanging out with him your normally in his workshop and he’s talking about his newest invention and you’re just.. slowly zoning out with that everlasting brainless expression
Like Sonic, he also finds it funny but he won’t try to get your attention, he’ll just see how long you stay zoned out
You frantically apologize for zoning out while he was talking cause you didn’t mean to :(
He understands that you don’t mean to zone out and he just enjoys your company and that you let him talk about his inventions.. even if you’re zoned out the majority of the time
He really enjoys how affectionate you can be! Since he loves hugs he always goes to you for a hug
Once you were helping him repair his airplane and he asked for the wrench and when you were gonna get it you just.. forgot
You could not for the life of you remember what he asked for, you awkwardly shuffled over to him rubbing the back of your neck sheepishly and he sighed trying not to laugh asking
“You forgot what I asked for, didn’t you?” While holding back a laugh
“..Yeaaah”
“I asked for the wrench, Y/N”
You nodded and went back to get the wrench, thankfully, this time you didn’t forget
Knuckles
Tumblr media
He would be very confused when you zone out since he’s never seen anyone else zone out before
Let alone someone zone out and have that everlasting brainless expression
He probably would take a picture of you and send it to the family groupchat with the caption “Is this normal?? Are they okay?”
They would tell him it’s normal for you to zone out and have that face when you do, he would still be confused though
He wouldn’t really know what to do to make you stop zoning out so he would just poke your face repeatedly
Once you stop zoning out he would sigh in relief, probably scared that you’d be stuck like that or something
He would offer you grapes in promise you wouldn’t zone out like that again cause it scared him, yet he wouldn’t say that out loud
His heart will flutter if you hold his hand and trace it with your fingers and stuff while you zone out it just gets him so <333
He isn’t one for affection but he accepts it from you
He enjoys your hugs and such, he likes how touchy feely you can be, he thinks it’s cute
Like the others, he doesn’t mind that you forget stuff easily
Once he was talking about something and you started to doze off as he was talking and you kinda just.. fell out of your chair..
He just stood there like 🧍‍♂️ w h a t
Extremely confused as to what happened and if you’re okay
When you get up and tell him that you’re okay he’s very relieved
Just please try not to scare him like that again
WOOO I GOT IT DONE!!! IM SO PROUD OF THIS I THINK THIS IS MY BEST ONE YET 😭💕💕 I personally relate to these headcanons since I tend to zone out a lot when people are talking and forget stuff easily lmao
Feel free to send in requests! This one was extremely fun to do!! My posts may be slow though due to school and end of grade testing coming up <3

So, I finally decided to share some of my AUs ideas/Concepts over here.
Starting with one I just thought about like 7 minutes ago from the moment I'm writing this.
Sonic starts to go crazy, and develops anger issues (stressing at minor inconveniences, impatient, yelling/punching/hitting whatever's close to him without realizing, etc.)
Of course, this starts to affect Tails, his closest friend, "little bro" and his (somewhat) "son"
Sonic slowly starts to yell at him, more and more every time he gets frustrated, ending up in arguments (in which he ends up just yelling at Tails non-stop instead of "arguing") and almost punching Tails.
Sometimes he even did, but apologized afterwards.
With this situation, Tails began to be more "careful" around Sonic, and always trying to be "enough" for him.
Sometimes Tails doesn't even go outside anymore unless someone calls him, either because they just want to hang out with him, or because they have to protect the village, or the world, again.
[THINGS TO CLEAR UP HERE]
By "being "careful" around Sonic", I mean:
Tails makes sure not to say or do anything that might trigger Sonic, which might cause Sonic to act all cold and angry again, and maybe even lead to arguments and yelling again. (These triggers might either be just Tails "yapping too much" or bringing up his past failures/losses/other stories about him doing what he considers "ridiculous things".)
By "always trying to be "enough" for him.", I mean:
Tails makes sure to not fail at his tasks/missions, doing anything Sonic tells him to do and trying not to be so slow and/or trigger him in the process.
Nuh uh, no toxic SonTails relationship here, if someone here's a SonTails(and while we're at it, SonNine/SonMangey/SonSails/etc) shipper
get out.
This is just a self-inserting/self-projecting thing
I do have anger issues...
Hereditary anger issues, actually
So this is kinda just a venting thing too?? Idk rlly
I'm kinda both in this case??? Not as much as Sonic, as I never actually hit anyone yet, i punch my pillow instead, but I just love making Sonic somewhat more evil towards Tails (it's the way I give "affection" to my fav characters (by making their lives hell or killing them) )
I don't know if i'll turn this into an actual AU, keep it as a concept, or just add it to one/a few of my already existing AUs

METALHEAD! Michael Myers X EMO! S/O Headcanons
A/N: Can’t get the idea of metalhead Mikey falling for an emo out of my head, it’s so damn cute and self indulgent on my part. Sorry not sorry.
Well, to set the stage for this post, I’ll start by saying that (in the early 2000s at least), metalheads did not like emos, or at the very least had a distaste for emo music.
They think it’s whiny, and metal is not whiny,
Michael has spent his life detesting the thought of being weak, emotional, or whiny, and got into metal at a pretty young age.
I like to think that in a world where 07 didn’t happen, he’d grow up to be a metalhead and hang around other likeminded people.
And although the group he hung out with had an arbitrary hatred for the emo group that gathered only a few benches over, you always had his eye.
While your respective groups bickered the two of you stood behind, observing the other with interest.
He liked your cute little accessories, maybe even found your taste in musicians hilariously charming, he just couldn’t bring himself to hate you.
When his younger sister Laurie started bringing you around more he got used to you, despite his stand-offish nature at first.
When you expressed interest in the things that he liked he slowly started assimilating your interests into his life as well, or at the very least gave them a shot.
The two of you found common ground regarding you interest in the edgier things, especially horror movies. Blood, guts, gore, fun! Who didn’t like a good horror flick?
You were lucky he allowed you to get away with so much. Painting his nails, playing your music on his stereo, making blingees on his computer? You were privileged, so so privileged.
Even if you were whiny, you were cute, and undeniably… You. The heart of being emo is being, well, emotional, something that he’s never willingly tried to be. He admires the culture for that, and you as well.
You help make him feel more sensitive, less tough and more squish, maybe even… Vulnerable.
If you’re the poetry type and you’re brave enough to share with him, you might receive some of his with varying degrees of quality.
One thing he won’t do for a very long time is let you apply makeup on him, he can do it himself and doesn’t like you being so close to his face.
He definitely likes watching you put yours on though, if you put any on.
If you doodle he’ll scribble with you, usually claiming the other side of the page for his strangely demonic art. You think it’s cool.
He watches as you feverishly use the MS paint line tool to draw your respective features over a DA Sonic couple base, non judgmentally kind of. If you ask him to add stuff he will create an awesome moonlit background and maybe some song lyrics in Creepster font. It’s his wallpaper now.
He likes it when you draw you and him as wolves he thinks they’re. Cool. He likes wolves, he thinks they are cool. Will draw the same wolf characters but in a lot more eerie detail.
When emailing you he will only say what he feels necessary, but will occasionally frighten you when he mimics your text emotes with a small “ T_T “
Stalks your forum profiles, doesn’t matter what forum or how obscure. He will find you and watch, judge a little but not say anything.
If his friends target you specifically he’ll fend them off, not caring whether or not they look down on him for it. If they aren’t willing to let you be apart of his life, then they can’t be apart of it either.
If you openly self loathe a lot expect him to try and stop you. And by that I mean he’ll pull you into a hug and squeeze you until you stop talking about yourself that way. He thinks he is helping.
Has a collection of spikes/studs that have fallen off your clothing.
He tries dressing emo for one date, gets embarrassed because you unironically glomped him for it.
Having Michael as a boyfriend is like having another shadow, but it’s a blessing. Suddenly, all the people who pestered you before are minding their own business and walking the opposite way on the sidewalk. Anyone who dares belittle you over your fashion choices will regret it almost immediately.

My Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Review
From a long-long-time Scott Pilgrim fan.
Quick-form style:
PRO: The animation is stellar, does a great job at both adapting and upgrading the original artstyle with a bunch of motion.
PRO: I especially love all the little background references. Not just the ones related to the original comics or whatever either, there's a lot that are just aesthetic references to gamer stuff or Toronto landmarks (Honest "Ed's"!). Does a lot to make it feel more like it's really set in late 2000s/early 2010s Canadiana. I think you could fill a whole wiki just categorizing all the little connections they fit into every episode.
PRO: Truly a once-in-a-lifetime voice cast, I'm actually amazed they got the whole cast of the movie to come back after thirteen years.
PRO: Extremely funny with the jokes, as the comics and the movie both were, but even more concentrated, especially if you're sharp enough to catch all the background details and references.
CON: The main storyline feels rushed. More on that later.
PRO: Both the licensed soundtrack and the original compositions go fucking hard, rivalling the movie's already impressive album.
PRO: A lot of characters who didn't get a ton of development in the comics or movie get extra screen time and are seen in a new light that really fleshes them out as complete personalities where they might have been one-note before.
CON: A lot of the characters who were more important in the comics or movie have underdeveloped arcs in the anime, so they feel half-baked.
PRO: The scene-to-scene dialogue, and the way the characters socialize with each other, often feels fresh and real the way they were in the comics. It's cartoonish, of course, but they talk like long-time friends talk.
CON: Lisa Miller, my favorite tertiary character, was not included. Unforgivable.
Overall? Takes Off was an enjoyable addition to the series. Even with all its glitter, it's not as good as the original comics, but that's a high bar. I would say that Takes Off is equal or even better than the VS The World movie, and that's a good ass movie! The attention to detail and production quality is substantial in both. I personally think that the story in Takes Off had a little more substance, but I think opinions are going to vary strongly on that, and I can easily understand the other side. In any case, if you're new to Scott Pilgrim, Takes Off is a lot of fun, and if you end up liking it, the comics are even better. If you already enjoy Scott Pilgrim, Takes Off is a strong spin-off and worth watching.
Points heavier on spoilers below, and heavier on details as I slowly forget what "point form" means:
PRO: From the start, the first episode is bursting with love for the original series. There are multiple scenes that are shot-for-shot recreations of the comic, and it's a real treat to see the comic panels animated and voiced by the movie cast.
CON: Knive Chau's introduction is kind of brushed over. They basically say "Knives Chau: Scott's 17-year-old fake girlfriend (more on that later)." Except: There's never really more on that later.
PRO: A lot of the first episode's changes are done in a really funny way that fits the vibe. Obviously the Amazon -> Netflix change is just corporate politics, but delivering Netflix DVDs makes it feel like even more of a period piece. And changing Scott's awkward infodump from Puckman to Sonic cartoons - "one guy playing two versions of the same character" - is a cute lampshade hang.
CON: A lot of people are going to be turned off by the show's central twist. Everyone expected this to be an adaptation played straight, since that's what was advertised. It sure as hell shocked me when Scott "died"! I have no doubt some people are gonna have a more intense reaction and feel shitty about the rug-pull.
PRO: However! I came around on it pretty fast myself once I figured out what they were doing. While I would have adored a direct adaptation from the comics, I cannot complain about getting a brand new story by the original creator, and I think the whole AU idea of "what if Scott lost to the Seven Evil Exes" is a really fun one to explore! Regardless of execution, it's a cool concept and I kind of admire the balls of sucessfully pulling a bait-and-switch on such a major production. Managing to keep your main plotline a secret while working for a major production company and hiring box-office-topping actors is no small feat!
PRO: Again, the AU-fanfic-type stuff is a lot of fun. It's great how the League of Evil Exes finally gets to do their whole evil plan, and succeed in killing Ramona's date, then fall apart when they realize this didn't actually get them anywhere.
PRO: Also, while their fight does kind of unfairly nerf Gideon compared to his other appearances, it rocked seeing Matthew Patel clean house. I'm just a sucker for when a weak early enemy managed to usurp power through some bullshit. And of all the Evil Exes, he needed the glow-up the most, he got the least scenes out of any of them.
PRO: METRIC'S BACK!
CON: Even though he comes back to life, the funeral scene has weird vibes. Scott's friends and family reacted more emotionally when the comics did the "extra life" gag, but this is to their knowledge an actual permanent death. Even if she feels responsible, it's jarring that Ramona, who knew Scott for like two days and has an established habit of running from difficult feelings, seems more affected by grief than friends Scott that had known for years like Wallace, Kim, Stephen, even Envy. Hell, Knives was "dating" Scott for longer than Ramona's one-night stand, but she moves on quicker from the death of her fake boyfriend than her comic/movie counterparts do from just a breakup.
PRO: The casket just having spare change in it is a fucking great visual gag.
PRO: KIM PINE YURI???
CON: Kim's backstory and character arc gets shafted, and Scott's backstory loses complexity. More on that later.
PRO: There's less typical-late-2000s-loser type jokes about lesbians, and less catty bodyshaming, which is good. It might have been realistic dialogue at the time but it'd probably feel out of place in a modern production, even a period piece.
PRO: Related, Ramona has less internalized biphobia and doesn't make "experimenting in college" excuses about her sexuality. Some may feel like this simplifies her character, because her treating Roxie like an experiment is an important flaw, but I think it's a positive change. I'd rather her character be a bisexual girl with relationship issues than a comphet girl with relationship issues. The latter just reinforces bi erasure too much for me.
CON: Ramona inexplicably feels more loyal towards missing-presumed-dead Scott who she has had one date with than comic Ramona felt towards comic steady-boyfriend-of-several-months Scott, despite anime!Scott not getting to apologize for two-timing Ramona and Knives like comic!Scott did. I think this oversimplified her character and weakens her arc. More on that later.
CON: There's obviously an issue of balancing plotlines with runtime, but Roxie has a much more involved and interesting role in the story in the comics. She even moves in with Ramona for a while. The drama!
PRO: It's very cute seeing Knives hang out with the Sex Bob-omb crew on her own terms. She does that in the comics too, after she and Scott break up, but it's mostly offscreen unless Scott or Ramona also happen to be in the room. It's also a good addition to have her involved with the music herself rather than just be a fan.
PRO: Dead Kennedys needle drop. Fuck yeah.
PRO: In general, spending time with all of the Evil Exes is a lot of fun and does a lot of work to make them feel like well-rounded, fully realized characters. For me, I think this is the biggest benefit Takes Off brings to the series, and something that genuinely makes re-reading the comics more enjoyable. The Exes' scenes in their books pop more with the added detail to their personality from this anime.
PRO: Each Ex (sans Gideon/Gordon) gets their artstyle-shift backstory with Ramona lifted right from the comics.
CON: Even so, the Exes' appearances aren't totally even. Particularly Roxie, Todd, and Gideon/Gordon. Matthew, Lucas Lee, and the Twins benefit the most from the extra screentime, but every Ex has a few of their bumps shined off. Mostly in their backstories: while I love the flashbacks, they're all a lot less confrontational with Ramona about her own faults than their other appearances would suggest, again simplifying Ramona's story and weakening her arc. In previous appearances, many of the Exes were a lot less "fight Ramona's new BF to win her love back" and a lot more "fight Ramona's new BF because she broke my heart and I want revenge."
PRO: Simon Pegg and Nick Frost guest cameos!! That's how you KNOW it's an Edgar Wright project through and through
PRO: Young Neil becoming a cinephile and an accidental screenwriter is a great storyline, and the ongoing lampshading of adapting existing storylines makes room for a lot of good jokes at the creators' own expense.
PRO: WALLACE WELLS YAOI? Well, that much was more expected. But Todd Ingram/Wallace Wells yaoi? That's new ground!
CON: Again, it's a question of managing runtime and work-hours, but the Envy->Todd<-->Wallace love triangle isn't as interesting as the "taking a full page out of this volume for a relationship chart" love lattice from the comics, though it's still hilarious and a delight to watch. It would be fully in-character for Wallace to steal Envy's boyfriend, but that's nowhere near as juicy as the web of jealousy and desire between Scott+Ramona+Envy+Todd+Lynette+Knives(+Gideon, later on).
PRO: I'm glad they didn't re-cast Kieran Culkin, but I'm also grateful they wrote in a mea culpa about casting straight actors to play gay characters.
CON: Envy herself has very little character in the anime besides being Scott's bitchy famous ex-girlfriend, where the comics paint a much more sympathetic picture. Maybe an issue of Brie Larson being busy with Marvel, but unfortunate all the same. More on that later.
PRO: "Edgar Wrong"
PRO: Narration by Weird Al Yankovic
PRO: They have a lot of fun joking about Scott Pilgrim VS The World thanks to the set-up. I feel like every time there's an in-universe joke about adapting Scott Pilgrim (real life guy) into Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (movie) it also works as a fourth-wall joke about adapting Scott Pilgrim (graphic novels) into Scott Pilgrim VS The World (movie). If the writing was less tight I think it'd be grating and either feel too meta or too avoidant, but I think they walk that line with talent and make most lines work on both levels. It's nice to see the creators take a good-natured jab at themselves for the issues the real movie ran into adapting a not-yet-finished 6-volume comic into a sub-2-hour super-overbudget studio movie with a professional soundtrack from several major indie rock stars. That joke about the movie not being able to make up its losses didn't come from nowhere, unfortunately, but I'm glad they can laugh about it.
PRO: The Chau/Stills songwriting team is great. They develop their own friendship in the comics, too, but it comes to life way more here. It does see them relegated to more of a comic relief role, rather than their more complicated arcs in the comics, but more on that later.
PRO: Gordon Goose from North Bay Ontario is an inspired choice, as is him friendshipping it up with Lucas Lee after they're both broke, as is especially him hooking up with Julie. I could honestly even see them getting together in the comic or movie versions too, if the story had gone a little differently. They've got great chemistry that I never even considered.
CON?PRO?IDK: Gordon Goose from the anime is an entirely different character from the comic's Gideon Gordon Graves. Some parts could fit: him originally being a loser from North Bay, him hanging out with Julie and Lucas Lee, even the anime-binge depression spiral could fit if events conspired for him to lose everything. Other parts, though, are trickier. I mentioned that he was a far weaker fighter than in other works, but that's minor and idk maybe it's a rock paper scissors thing (Scott is stronger than Matthew, Matthew is stronger than Gideon, Gideon is stronger than Scott). The BIG changes are that he doesn't seem to have any of his evil genius plots going on besides the League of Evil Exes. In the comics, he infected Ramona (and later Scott) with the Glow, a kind of emotional infection that enables and encourages avoidance; and in the movies, he stuck a mind-control chip in Ramona. (Also in the comics he kidnapped and cryogenically froze his 7 ex-girlfriends sans Ramona in a giant machine to "save" them until he could convince them to take him back, because he's a massive fucking asshole.) He did both long before Scott and Ramona met, so it's odd that there's seemingly no counterpart in the anime. It's also super different that after losing his wealth he stops being obsessed with Ramona. Where the other exes might have been more revenge motivated, Gideon was the one who really did want to try and win Ramona back by any means. His main character trait is that he's pretty much incapable of letting go when women reject him. There's echoes of that when Julie talks about his high school years, which I think is a good addition, but it makes it odd that in the final few episodes he's almost entirely uninterested in Scott and Ramona. Maybe that's Julie's influence, but that's a hard sell without actually showing it. (Plus, Julie didn't want Scott and Ramona together either, so almost a shared goal.) All in all, this makes Gordon Goose feel way more divergent from comic/movie Gideon Gordon Graves than any other character is. Still, I'm hesitant to commit to calling this a negative. It's different, but it might have been a difference needed for Takes Off to do what it wanted to do. Part of me wonders whether a Gideon played a tiny bit closer to norm would have been better, but I'm not confident in that, so decide for yourself.
CON: Gideon/Gordon never mentions his fetish for dressing people (Envy in particular) up like dolls.
PRO: While I know time travel plots get tiring, I much prefer it to Scott just being dead, or someone having just kidnapped him regular style.
PRO: The aesthetic for future-Toronto - and especially Old Wallace's sugar daddy's Nintendo mansion - fucking rocks.
PRO: Old Scott's character design, both in his time travel gear and his street clothes, totally nails the "Scott Pilgrim from a Bad Future" assignment. No notes.
PRO: He keeps his X-Men jacket (of course) while literally playing out his own Days of Future Past storyline. You absolutely know he's loving that fact. He wants to be Cable so bad.
PRO: Lots of characters in the future timeline wear masks, and the bus has a little disinfectant machine. These are already kinda staple tropes for dystopian futures, but there's another layer that makes it even better: If you look at the timeline Old Scott lays out, saying that about 13 (or maybe 15) years have passed since Young Scott's era, it seems pretty clear to me that they're referencing the 13-year gap between the movie and final book releasing in 2010, and the anime releasing in 2023. Suggesting that Young Scott is from around 2010, and Old Scott is just from... this year. So it's entirely possible the masks and disinfectant aren't for ANY kind of cool futuristic reason, that's just how alt future Toronto dealt with Covid-19. Personally I find that detail clever and also hilarious, it really got me when I realized.
PRO: Old Scott, subtitle: 37 years old, looking a solid decade older than that. I know red hair can go gray quick but he is not looking great for his age. Which isn't at all surprising considering his lifestyle.
CON: Some people, especially those who were heavily invested in the Scott/Ramona relationship from the comics or movie, are going to be upset over Old Scott and the divorce/separation reveal. I get it. Especially in the comics, they go through a hell of a lot of growth, and learn to genuinely love each other in a way they never had with anyone else. It sucks to see them fall back to their worst habits, Scott turning a breakup into a neurotic attempt to fix anything except his own behavior, and Ramona running away from a relationship with zero communication or closure and creating another resentful ex.
PRO: However, I'm not one of them. I have my gripes with the time-travel plotline in general that I'll get to, but I think Old Scott and Old Ramona going through a separation and a rough patch after several years of marriage is realistic and an interesting place to go. The comic had (still has) the most deeply developed relationship between Scott and Ramona, and left them on the strongest footing possible for their happy ending. Even the comic, though, never really promised them "happy ever after," it just said that they had all the skills they needed to make their relationship work, and left it up to them to traverse that long journey. Now, maybe you disagree with me and you think that comic Scott/Ramona should have been able to handle a rough spot better than anime Old Scott/Old Ramona. Thankfully, the anime gives you an out here: Old Scott's VR photo album has a couple details that show his timeline isn't exactly the comic or the movie storyline, so we can avoid stepping on the toes of existing endings, and explore new possibilities without overwriting your old headcanons. Personally, I think that even with all the growth they've had at the end of the comic, it's believable that Old Scott and Old Ramona could have a big argument that leads to them temporarily separating. Even when you've got good interpersonal skills, big arguments happen, and even when you've worked on them, your gut-reaction coping mechanisms still come up. Whatever the argument was, it's not hard for me to imagine avoidant Old Ramona to put up space between her husband instead of dealing with a stressful argument. It's easy to imagine dumbass Old Scott interpreting their separation as a call for permanent divorce, and no matter the age Ramona Flowers is never the kind of person to proactively call up an ex to resolve a misunderstanding. I think it's a really interesting and juicy narrative choice. If they had really landed the execution with this, I would outright love it and think it was a great addition to their love story.
PRO: DP input for the VR vault which is a giant Game Boy. Sick.
PRO: THE VIRTUAL BOY! (Or "Virtual Guuy")
PRO: For some reason Old Scott bro-ing it up with the Old Katayanagis and making retro throwback music in the garage works really well? Like for some reason I could see it happen even in the comics continuity if they (a) came back to life and (b) did a redemption arc for kidnapping Kim Pine.
PRO: Callback to episode 1's sugar daddy joke, and they genuinely had me wondering if they were going to make Wallace hooking up with Scott on the rebound a thing.
CON: Honesty I think they should have just committed to the (not really that old) Old Man Yaoi! Live a little!
PRO: Silver Fox-y Wallace Wells living up to his destiny of being a rich drunk trophy husband. And aging more gracefully than Scott despite going fully gray.
CON: You've got to wonder where the rest of Scott's friends are. Again, we've got to consider the runtime, and that he's in an unusual life situation, but in the comics when he gets into a similar depressive funk, a lot of his friends and family reach out to him, and he tries to reach out to them. A "17 missed calls from: Stephen Stills" or a "Kim doesn't talk to me anymore" line might have gone a long way to excuse their absence. It's also notable that despite his extremely unsuccessful music venture with the Old Katayanagis, Old Scott seems to still be unemployed, which is an example of his character development being cut short compared to the comics. More on that later.
PRO: Old Ramona's character design is as stellar and on-brand aesthetically as Old Scott's, plus the benefit that Ramona actually knows how to dress cool. Fucking baller.
PRO: Also she looks exactly her age (not given in the show but likely 38). Not surprising given she's got a healthier lifestyle than Scott, but I guarantee her natural hair color has gone completely white by now. You cannot be doing a full bleach and dye job every morning ma'am! Those follicles are stone dead!
PRO: It's incredibly endearing seeing her try to undo Old Scott's time travel plan through giving Young Neil the screenplay, and even more endearing when she calls Scott her one true love. The contradiction between her thinking of Scott as her true love and going through this massive effort to stop his time travel plan, but not being willing to go to Old Wallace's house and actually talk to Old Scott, is great. It's the closest the anime has gotten so far to giving Ramona her original character arc, which really got sidetracked by Young Ramona playing Columbo. More on that later.
PRO: For those who weren't keeping track of the meta Scott Pilgrim story, it now goes: Scott Pilgrim (real guy, old timeline) -> Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, a memoir by Old Young Neil (memoir) -> Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (movie script adapted by Old Ramona, credited to Young Neil) + Scott Pilgrim (real guy, young timeline) -> Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (failed movie and making-of documentary) -> Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Musical (adapted by Stephen Stills and Knives Chao). It's also entirely plausible that all of these versions eventually inspire Old Young Neil to write his memoir and create a bootstrap paradox. Incredible. Plus, the musical part continues the metacommentary by being roughly analogous to the real-life anime!
PRO: Delorean rollerskates, need I say more?! Actually, the choice to use this kind of Back to the Future "one timeline that corrects and adjusts when time travel happens" is really smart. Especially when Old Scott says he doesn't want to send Young Scott back because he seems to always end up marrying and separating from Ramona regardless, or when Old Ramona's script doesn't stop the eventual divorce and Old Scott getting unstable. In this part of the story, it's a great way to show how them trying to literally change the past instead of resolving their current issues will never get them anywhere.
PRO: Old Ramona and Young Ramona failing to synchronize on a vibe for their photo
CON: This is where I started to feel the ending getting rushed. Over the final episode, it felt like all the existing plotlines sped on to a quick resolution to make room for the very sudden AK field and Even Older Scott climax, which itself felt in a hurry to finish.
PRO: Scott apologizing to Knives and taking responsibility for being an asshole creep.
PRO: Knives saying she's glad he's not dead but she's glad that it broke them up. Get his ass, Knives! He's earned it!
CON: While these are super important scenes to include for both Knives' and Scott's character arcs, and I'm super glad they made it in since it'd be weird if they left it unspoken, it does feel unearned. Scott has barely been away a couple of days, and it doesn't seem like either he or Knives have had the time for serious introspection they would need to get to this point. Scott could have been inspired to be better than Old Scott's example, I guess, but he clearly thinks of Old Scott as a different guy and doesn't feel responsible for Old Scott's actions. Even if the memoir/movie/musical/VR robot experience showed him Old Scott apologizing at some point, I don't buy that he's emotionally intelligent enough to internalize doing it himself, and if he did it would still feel unearned because he'd basically be following a walkthrough rather than understanding it himself. And Knives? From her perspective, in a couple of days her inappropriately older fake boyfriend introduced her to his band, cheated on her, and then died. Since then she's been hanging out with his old band rather than any friends her age, and writing a musical about the life of her dead ex. She has not been in a position to realistically process that their relationship was fucked up. Both the apology and Knive's response, though necessary, feel rote rather than genuinely felt.
CON: Likewise, Ramona and Scott being so madly in love when reunited. They've known each other for one and a half dates, 1.75 at most. Scott is slightly ahead because of the VR memories and meeting Old Ramona, but not by much. Now, Scott is honestly the kind of guy to fall headfirst into a romantic fantasy with a woman he's barely met, but Ramona is not, as shown in the anime when she decides to pull back and not have sex on the first date. In the comics they take things pretty slow to accomodate her needs there, not moving in together, not saying "I love you" for a while, taking a break from each other midway through, they go for a couple volumes before she even tells him how old she is. It's super out of character for her to go head over heels like this without hesitation. She has been trying to solve his disappearance for a while, but that hasn't really caused her to get to know him any better. Someone might argue it's because she's seen how their lives play out in Old Ramona's movie, but that has uncomfortable elements of predestination and denying free will that I'd rather not think about. If I was trying to fix this, I'd maybe say that talking with her exes and making peace with them while looking for Scott helped her get over her issues, or that being more impulsive than comic/movie Ramona is actually timeloop-style the reason their future marriage is unstable. But that would all be fanfic, it's not present in the actual text, so I've got to call this one against the anime's favor. In general, the anime tends to take a very love-at-first-sight ("sparks") view on love, which is in opposition to the comics' more mature view of love as an ongoing practice. More on that later, maybe.
PRO: AK (Anti-Kiss) fields taken visually and conceptually straight from Evangelion's AT (Absolute Terror) fields. I'm a sucker for eva! This and a few other references seem to make clear that the creators are gunning for Takes Off to be to Scott Pilgrim as the Rebuilds are to NGE.
CON: I genuinely don't think Old Scott is smart enough to come up with this. I know the Old Katayanagis are said to have designed the nanomachines, but I don't mean the technical side, I mean the strategic side. Scott is pretty stupid, bless him. Old Scott is still not very smart. Scotts Pilgrim are just not the kind of guy to ever consider a Plan B. I just don't buy that Old Scott would ever think to himself "I should have a backup plan in case my first doesn't work," he's too confident and too stupid for that. The AK field feels like a red herring for Gordon Goose going evil again, since it's similar to the Glow and mind-control chip, but it ends up going away without much fanfare. Even Older Scott even admits they would always figure out a way to get rid of it, so it's kind of a lackluster final mystery.
PRO: All of the evil exes showing up the musical but being totally uninterested in fighting Scott is a fun reversal of the norm. Especially the Katayanagi twins being totally fine acting on prophesies of bro-ship from their special little vegan robot oracle.
PRO: Despite being a downgrade from megalomaniacal genuinely evil ultimate villain to greedy but affably evil Saturday-morning-cartoon villain, seeing Gordon Goose get back to sinister plots is a big plus, and "It wouldn't hurt any of us! ...Maybe some cast and crew," is a great line for him. Even when he tells Even Older Scott that he has no interest in what's going on and wants to go back to the play, though it's an unthinkable sentiment from obsessive comic/movie Gideon, the line goes out with enough confidence and disrespectful disinterest that for me it actually makes up for it!
PRO: In general, I love when a show gets an opportunity to bring the whole cast to the event, putting all the personalities on display. Especially a formal event, because then sometimes you get fun new outfit designs! In Takes Off it feels even more special because this isn't just all the characters getting together at Scott Pilgrim the Musical for a last hurrah, it's also metatextually all the creatives from previous Scott Pilgrim projects reuniting against the odds in Scott Pilgrim the Anime for a last hurrah.
P: Speaking of all the characters getting together, there is - by technicality - an appearance by Lisa Miller, one-hit-wonder extraordinaire, in the finale. She's in the crowd of graphic novel characters drawn in to populate the musical's audience, face partially obscured. I do not consider this a proper appearance and will still count the lack of Lisa against the anime. However, in the sprit of fairness, I will offer a partially obscured PRO for this cameo.
PRO: Even Older Scott has clearly given in to the Satsui no Hado! Design elements like the hair, bandana, raggedy gi, wrist wraps, and inexplicable tan all call to mind Akuma and Dark Ryu from Street Fighter. I wonder if the Shoryuken input for Old Scott's vault was intended to tie in to this?
PRO: Even Older Scott acts like Master Roshi even though he's only 47. That's only like, Bulma in Dragon Ball Super years, man! How are you that buff but aged that poorly?
CON: Even Older Scott's plan makes zero sense. You've seen Back to the Future. You can't kill your younger self, dude! Total paradox! You'll cease to exist and therefore can't have killed your past self and therefore your past self should exist blah blah blah.
PRO: Even Older Scott is absolutely stupid enough to have tried it anyway. Especially after 10 years isolation.
PRO: "Even Older Scott VS Everyone" and "The World VS Scott Pilgrim" are nice wordplay, I'm here for it.
CON: The confrontation between Young Scott (and associates) VS Even Older Scott lacks emotional stakes, since it kinda came out of nowhere. There's the AK field, but Even Older Scott says they would figure that out anyway. There's the barebones stakes of Even Older Scott turning everyone into spare change, but nobody really seems to be afraid of that as a threat, and it's confusing what that would even mean with the time loop. Their dialogue suggests kind of a philosophical conflict between Even Older Scott trying to control Young Scott's life, and Young Scott wanting to make his own choices, but that also seems undercut by the time loop: if Young Scott was actually going to make different choices, Even Older Scott wouldn't exist. Maybe this is just the dialogue having some trouble getting the conflict across? They could be going for Even Older Scott futilely trying to change the past, VS Young Scott wanting to have the freedom to make those choices even if it causes him to suffer in the future, "better to have loved and lost" and all that. That's thematically cohesive so I think it was their intention, but I don't think it was communicated well in the fight.
PRO: Nevermind anything else, the fight scene itself is fucking fantastic. Expressive and punchy animation everywhere, banger music, and a chance to show off just about every character's personality as they contribute to the fight! Even some characters who haven't had major animated sequences yet get a shot in the spotlight, and often with a bonus to boot, like Knives finally getting her trademark knives from the comics/movie! We get even more chemistry between the characters when they team up and work together for combo moves, so not only does it give a moment of glory to everyone's individual personality, it gives us a spectacle to the relationships they've built, too. The circumstances surrounding the fight might not make a lot of sense, it's unclear why they're fighting or what they're fighting over, but in HOW the cast fights this whole sequence evokes an astounding amount of character.
PRO: Even Older Ramona. Gets another great design. Actually looks her age, and good for it. Actually looks like Bulma in Dragon Ball Super.
PRO: Even Older Ramona, to her credit, returns her original character arc. She stops running away from the romantic messes she's left behind, and comes back to fix it. A+
CON: I don't buy that Young Ramona has internalized that message enough to mind-meld about it. Ramona after 13 years of marriage and 10 years to think about it, sure. But not Ramona on her third actual date with Scott, 3.25th at best.
PRO: Human Instrumentality Quantum Super Reimona I'm drowning in Evangelion references here
PRO: Super Ramona finalizes Ramona's missing character arc! It might be a bit rushed, but it is a complete character arc. It might have taken her 23 years longer than the comic, but hey, this is a different story working at a different scale. They got there in the end.
CON: Even Older Scott never really gets his character arc. Super Ramona gives him a second chance and reverses his villain arc, but he's really at the same place at 47 that he was at 23, which kinda sucks. But, more on that later.
PRO: Super Ramona's "it's never too late to try and mend what you've broken" ending still leaves open the possibility of a rekindled Scott/Ramona romance, and at the very least implies they stop isolating themselves and develop a healthier, friendlier relationship. As far as I can tell, this fully resolves the timeloop AND gives a relatively happy ending to a complicated romantic relationship, both of which are hard as fuck to write. I salute the writers. Even if Scott and Ramona are destined to have a falling out 13 years down the line, they're also destined to forgive each other after 23, and who knows, maybe they've got a chance to get back together again in after 24. It's a messier narrative than the comics to reach the same basic message, but in it's own special way it's still beautiful.
CON: It does kinda leave Scott and Ramona's non-romantic relationships in the lurch, though, after a decade-long absence. Even Older Wallace deserves a thousand apologies and a foot massage for putting up with these two.
PRO: I love a good "where are they now" sequence! Matthew, Gordon, and Julie settling their differences and sharing the evil plots amongst themselves. Young Neil driving the mario karts on movie sets. Stacey getting some eye candy at the café and resolving Julie's joke from earlier about Luke getting a job there. Good stuff.
PRO: Knives fully joining Sex Bob-omb is a particularly genius choice.
PRO: It's true. As an anglo Canadian, our French does suck. (Our schools can never decide whether to teach us Parisien or Québecois and we end up speaking neither)
CON: Is it bragging if a Netflix show includes a scene of a video rental place shutting down? Feels like... when a cat wants to show off the mouse it killed lol
PRO: Simon Pegg and Nick Frost eating Cornettos. Magnifique.
PRO: Also hey! It's Mobile! Wallace's boyfriend from the comics! He's also psychic! And I guess works for Nintendo also? Damn, he's the total package.
CON: No real representation for Lisa Miller, the world's best D-list failgirl! 0/10
CON: NO STEPHEN STILLS YAOI! I joke, but I do consider it a major flaw that Stephen Stills never gets to come out. The movie got a pass because he hadn't come out in the comics yet, but there's no excuse here. The subtly concealed subplot in the comics of him breaking up with Julie and coming out of the closet in the comics is one of my favorite parts, and in the anime all he gets is an ex-girlfriend with no reference to him coming out at all.
CON: In fact, almost all of the original supporting cast gets this treatment. Scott, Wallace, Stephen, Knives, Kim, Envy. Even arguably Ramona, despite being the new protagonist. While their jokes are fun and it's a treat to see their personalities on screen, their pre-existing character arcs get neutered, disappeared, or straight up reversed. Sure, though I hate to admit it, it makes sense to cut Lisa's character, since she has no reason to show up in the first place if Scott's gone. But the rest of the supporting cast were the heart of the original comics; Their complex development over the books is what made the comics so special in the first place, and it's a heart all adaptations and spinoffs since have mostly lacked. I want to go into more detail on how these characters got done dirty, but I'll save it for another post. I'll link it here if I ever finish it.
PRO: Through the whole show, it's clear everyone loves Scott Pilgrim in all its forms: comics, movie, video game, anime. Bryan Lee O'Malley, Edgar Wright, the entire movie/voice cast, Metric, Anamanaguchi, and now Science SARU clearly have a lot of passion for these characters. There's a ton of work put in to bring this to life that wouldn't happen if they didn't genuinely care for the series. You think Chris Evans isn't getting better offers?
PRO: THE FUCKIN PLUMTREE SONG THAT STARTED IT ALL. FUCK. YES. WHERE MY HALIGONIANS AT
A NOTE IF YOU'VE GOTTEN THIS FAR:
I know I've written a lot about how the anime doesn't compete with the comics, or where it's fallen short, but I want to be clear that I actually really really like the anime. I think it's great! It's clearly a labour of love. It's just a lot easier to write a lot of words analysing parts that fail than parts that succeed. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off succeds at A TON OF THINGS!
I would honestly say that it succeeds far more than the movie, and people love that movie, myself included! It's a cult classic! The Scott Pilgrim graphic novels are just that good that it's hard for spinoffs to match up. If you ask me they're some of the best comics ever made, but I'm long biased by my personal history with them. You can never really be neutral about a high school favorite.
I think "spinoff" there is the right word, despite the show's marketing. It's not an adaptation by any means. It's not a sequel. It's doing its own thing, and it did it really well. If you expected an adaptation, I understand your frustration, it's shit as an adaptation. But I'd encourage you to give it another chance as a spinoff, it has a lot of value to add to the whole Scott Pilgrim experience, just as much as the game, and just as much as the movie.

how did the main characters meet? and what were their thoughts about eachother when they first met + how much did they change compared to their current feelings of eachother another question, who brought the group together
that's a good question 🤔
the first two to meet were definitely iggy and genzou. i see genzou as simply approaching iggy one day while iggy was playing in his yard and deciding they would be friends, after which they started doing things together like walking to school, going on bike rides, hanging out at each other's houses, etc. gidget i see joining the group next. iggy and gidget sat next to each other in their computer typing class and became fast friends, so gidget was just kinda assimilated into the group. orlam joined because he would just kinda watch the three of them playing at recess from the sidelines, slowly getting closer and closer, until one day when they were playing sonic the hedgehog, genzou finally barked at him to stop staring and just get over there already (they had him be antoine). bucks was the last one. she's a year behind them so it wasn't at school but rather that her family lived close by so she would see them all playing outside and one day just charged over pretending to be a superhero and shouting that they all needed to become her minions lkdfjad (they all loved her immediately)

Headcanon Freedom fighters (or basically how I would like to group characters together in teams to fight Eggman):
Knothole FF: One of the first to start their revolt against the mad Doctor. They live in the forest of the Knothole Village, under the leadership of Princess Sally Acorn.
Angel Island Guardians: Originally just starting with Knuckles, the group slowly grew as the timeline went on. Now becoming one of the largest of the FF, all of them have a close relationship with the Rad Red.
The Spiral Hill Restoration: Forming much later than the others, this group has ties to the Restoration, making it the most resourceful of them. Still new and inexperienced, the group has Lanolin the Sheep, a young leader that's still getting the hang of keeping things together.
Shijin Warriors: Hailing all the way from the east, these shaolin warriors where formed thanks to Monkey Kahn. They protect the land of Kar Leung and the Shijin Shrine, often being moderators to the neighboring clans.
Spagonai Fighters: A group residing on the outskirts Spagonia, operating on the old ruins of the mad doctor. They are well versed with the doctors' tricks and doodats. Johnny lightfoot acts as the leader of this rag tag group.
Woodland Kingsmen: From the woods of Merica, lead by Bow Sparrow, they seek to dethrone the current king and establish a new monarchy. They mostly rely on old forms of weaponry and rarely use modern technology.
Desert Raiders: The smallest of the groups, living off the dessert, they are often fighting at odds through tick and thin. Lead by Spike the Porcupine, they seem to idealize Sonic and co.
Arctic Fighters: From the cold of the northern tundra. Lead by Guntiver the Arctic Wolf, these fighters fight the cold just as hard as they fight for freedom.
Others that I group together, but don't have a stationary place:
Forget me Knots: A world traveling band, lead by the famous Mina Mongoose. Their songs are the inspiring melodies that keep the world safe from tyranny.
Chaotix: The three man group of detectives, lead by the man himself, Vector the Crocodile. These misfits can solve any case, for the right price. But when trouble seems too unjust, they are willing to give their support, on the house.
also all of the art here is not mine, art used are from: JoeAdok, Drawloverlala, liris-san, SomeJoJoGuy, and the castle I can't remember.

Since round 2 of @sonic-oc-showdown is so close right now, thought I'd do this questionnaire for dog! after going through some other competitors' summaries vs propaganda, i definitely get a much better idea of the character from this supplemental stuff!
Original post by @/redd956 here! Banner by @/bunnymajo :) ty!
✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?
Hmm poorly! ^_^; But the logic became: Dog picked his name* because he was amused by the idea of having a name that can be general slang. he's always waiting for the day when someone says "what's up, dawg?" (he lives in a 90s sonic comic okay?) and he can.. well.. he hasn't really realized his response would not be different whether that was just a normal greeting or his name. and I'm not sure it's going to happen either, but it amuses him anyway. he's easily amused :) *all three of them in their core friend group have picked their names. dog + bebe for transgender reasons and fleet just for general Identity reasons.
🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range)
16 (or 16-ish; i actually have to check his ref every time so the specific number isn't that important since I can never remember it)
🍕 - What is their favorite food?
i feel like this kid could DEMOLISH some chinese takeout. he's going for noodles, he's going for dumplings, he's going for spice.
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?
skating! dog + her friends all meet + bond over skating :) dog prefers to board and honestly takes it real casual. she can do some tricks and will go out there and focus for a while, but usually she just slowly rolls around on her board and chats with her friends. she also collects trading cards and plays videos games.
🎯 -What do they do best?
dog isn't really the competitive type--she's just here to have fun and be herself. as such, she doesn't really care to think about whether or not shes 'good' at things... he's just chilling! i think his friends might say his strengths are in handling stress, being a good listener, and first aid. and then theyd tack on that some of the casual little gum wrapper crafts she makes are wicked cool
🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?
loves: chilling, being with friends, hanging out, having a good time
hates: when anything starts to be not that. majorly avoids anything that is too much Not the above things.
❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?
not really a memory, but i think he treasures his childhood friendship with bebe :) he loves to see how she's grown into a more confident and happy person. any time he makes a new friend is a good memory. any time his friends make a new friend is also a good memory. reaching out and welcoming in that nervous yellow hedgehog lingering at the edge of the park for the first time and seeing him warm up to the group was a good memory :)
✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?
dog good vibes forever <3
🧊 - Is their current design the first one?
Pretty much! I've gone back and forth on what kind of gloves to give her, and the hoodie is just a normal skull instead of sans, but otherwise is still check my work on her original ref
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
Fleet Needs Friends dot MyMind
🌂 - What genre do they belong in?
Dog being part of canon-divergence au in the fleetway comics puts her in variety comedy/adventure i guess :) in my mind, the stories the group get up to are "working together to defeat a minor villain in the area even though they don't have powers" and "getting possessed by/having wishes granted by/retrieving one of ebony's magical macguffins." the non-story fanficky stuff is mostly Chilling, Hanging Out, Shooting the Shit, and Being Unbothered. (as well as like. semi-grounded melodrama. you know the fun of taking character moments So Seriously?)
💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality?
gender: ? sexuality: ??
🙌 - How many sibling does your OC have?
none that I've bothered to make, but i could see her having an adult older brother
🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like?
dog's parents aren't really in the picture! he lives with his nan. they have a semi-strained relationship--they love each other and have their bonding moments, but she can get pretty riled up about some of the things dog does (knuckle tats, dirty room), even if there are others she just doesn't seem to care about (skipping school, extended stays at friends' houses, nosering). dog usually defaults to "ignore and avoid" if things are anything less than peachy.
🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?
he's just so easy to draw and i got that design down PAT. im really happy with dog + bebe + merger fleet all sharing color across their designs :) the friends. (i need to get bebe some green +gold accents tho it seems...)
Tumblr media
also the knuckle tats detail and this
Tumblr media
✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC?
usually when i'm having a fleet Moment dog comes along for the ride, maybe gets slingshotted forward into his own moment. so not that often, but in batches
💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC?
dog live forever <3
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
none that she would tell you 👍
🍩 -Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?
dog everyones friend forever <3
🎓 - How long have you had the OC?
Just over a year! the ref is dated august 6th 2022 and i did the original sketches the day before.

for the touch prompts, 15! author's choice of character/ship <3
I finally chose the ship for this!!! Took me some time but here it is! It's Plo/Wolffe, sharing soft touch/moment after a tough day.
15. after a tough day
Plo sighed as he sank down on the pillow, his legs folding into a meditation pose, one he often assumed without an unconscious thought. After so many decades it was just as natural to Plo as walking.
Letting his head hang low, Plo tried to remember when was the last time he had felt this tired. The Kel Dor rather hoped it had been quite some time ago but unfortunately his memory proved him wrong, offering a plenty times in the near past where Plo had felt just as worn-out as he did now.
The war was draining everyone, Plo knew. He had seen its effect in the faces of his brothers and sisters, and siblings at the Temple, in the thin faces of the children huddling in the arms of their parents, and in Plo's men.
The Wolfpack was just as tenacious as its Commander but even Wolffe couldn't overcome the limits of his genetically enhanced body.
Plo could hear his Commander's low groan when the door of his quarters chimed as it got locked, most likely by Plo's own personal code. Only he and Skein, the pack's CMO, could override it, which meant they were now guaranteed the maximum chance for peace until the next catastrophe.
Tracking Wolffe's movements by hearing alone, Plo's mind painted a picture of the human as he slowly dragged himself to the locker and started to remove his armor. Wolffe always started with the top parts of his armor but often left his greaves on until it was time to sleep.
After the armor was put away it was time for the sonic. Wolffe rarely spent more than the necessary amount time, even shorter if it meant getting to the bunk faster.
Plo listened Wolffe disappear into the small refresher, barely the size of Plo's closet back at the Temple, attached to his quarters. He pondered on the idea of using the sonic as well but his limbs far too heavy and the pillow felt too comfortable.
Before Plo could decide between the pros and cons on getting up, the refresher door opened again, Wolffe's steady steps approaching him now.
Lifting his head, Plo looked up to see his Commander standing before him, Wolffe's eyes close enough that the bi-colored eyes were barely visible slivers.
They stared at each other for a few seconds before Wolffe stepped closer, the tips of his boots almost touching Plo's crossed ankles, leaving barely no distance between them.
Plo watched him raise a hand and the Kel Dor let his head fall down again when Wolffe laid it on the back of his head, pulling him carefully forward.
With a sigh Plo followed the movement, his forehead coming to rest on Wolffe's thigh, almost reaching the Commander's hip thanks to his height.
Plo let his eyes close, breathing heavily through his mask as he basked in the warmth radiating from Wolffe as the human started caress the thick skin covering Plo's head, careful of the sensitive organs.
It was such a simple gesture but right now it was everything that Plo had been craving for, Wolffe's gentle affection washing over him like a cleansing rain.
"Thank you," Plo murmured, adding light pressure against Wolffe's leg before he relaxed again.
"You're welcome, Plo," his Commander replied, his voice a deep rumble.

So i promised I’d do a franchise that required research. Believe it or not, that franchise is, Minecraft! Until i got married to my wife I had actively avoided playing Minecraft. It just wasn’t for me, i used to even be the type of person who make fun of people who play Minecraft. Now, it’s just a game is a game is a game. I don’t know why i didn’t like Minecraft back then, but I can tell you I don’t super enjoy it now. I need, direction in my games. I like games where you just hang out and do stuff as much as the next game but i need the game to occasionally give me SOME kind of direction. That being said let’s get to business.
Minecraft is a game where it’s hard to justify giving move sets to characters that aren’t similar in SOME way to Steve. That’s probably part of why Steve is also Alex, Zombie and Enderman. Now this would not have required any research whatsoever if Enderman had not been a part of Steve. I would have simply chosen the Enderman and made a move set about teleportation and such. But NOOOOOOOOOO, Steve IS enderman. Mumble grumble. That being said. I do have a great character choice either way. One who I genuinely really like and think it’ll be super fun. For this purpose I’ve chosen
Tumblr media
The Warden! I know the Warden isn’t exactly a “character” it’s a force of nature. BUT I like the warden so it gets to be a character today! Just cuz I said so! That said, the warden is a beast creature that shows up in a biome known as the deep dark. It is summoned blocks called Sculk blocks. These blocks react to noise and summon the Warden to kill you. The warden however is a unique mob who is actually blind, so it doesn’t react when it sees you, but when it HEARS, or SMELLS you. It’s such a cool mob and mechanic. As you can tell i learned a lot about how this creature works to make this post. For further proof, I thought about trying to find a way to implement his rage mechanic. But the rage mechanic mostly is a self perpetuating mechanic that makes the warden work harder to find you and get to you and crush you. So instead, the smash built in Rage mechanic boosts two stats for the Warden instead of one, the warden gets faster as you damage him, not just stronger.
For his Neutral B it will fire it’s sonic boom attack. Like in Minecraft it ignores all walls and pierces all enemies. It is a large projectile, like, Samus charged shot big. It fires it slowly to make up for the large damage it does.
For his Up B it burrows into a ground that suddenly appears if used in the air, it then reappears/re-emerges from Sculk blocks that appear away form it. Think Zelda’s up B where he’s disappears and reappears somewhere else. It does damage both while going down and coming up. If it hits at the bottom of the burrowing animation it meteor smashes.
For Side B it charges forward, it can be redirected twice. Think Hulk’s gamma charge from MVC or quick attack from Pikachu but as a side B instead of an up, therefore more like gamma charge. As rage builds the distance this move goes increases.
For Down B it performs a roar that causes a stun to the enemy directly in front of it. Think Confusion from Mewtwo. This is meant to emulate the effect that the Warden causes players to experience darkness debuff.
In case it’s not obvious already, the warden is a heavy character like Bowser and K Rool and Dedede, but with this version of the rage mechanic the warden can reach the speeds it reaches in Minecraft itself. The warden is great creature to use as a character. I understand if people think there are better choices. I plan to keep going with this series and please keep asking me questions. It’s been fun to answer them.

I had a thought bouncing around in my head a bit.
In a horror game you need obstacles and enemies.
In this particular horror game you’re put up against 5 familiar characters.
Amy: She will attack you with her hammer. As she swings, there’s a timer for you to press the right buttons to dodge her hammer. The further in the game you get, the faster and trickier it will be. The final button will allow you to push her away giving you an opening to attack. Depending on the weapon will determine how many hits it will take to knock her out. During this time you have to leave the area. She can hear you. If you see her coming, you have an opportunity to hide.
Eggman; always knows where you are. He prefers to attack with his robots rather than head on. They aren’t meant to really kill you, they’re meant to slow you down. Sometimes he will laugh through the speakers of the area to bring enemies closer. You should take that chance to leave.
Sonic: He likes to follow. You can hear him behind you, but if you turn you’ll see a flash of blue, signalling he has run away. He’s very fast so once you hear his footsteps, be aware. It’s timed. You can flash him with your flashlight if he’s close enough. It’ll give you time to run away.
Knuckles: If he sees you, he will charge at you. The best thing you can do at this time is try to get out of his way. Be very quiet if you see or hear his heavy footsteps. If you find a chaos emerald and drop it in front of you before he charges, he will take the emerald and give you a running start. He will appear less often. You’re both looking for chaos emeralds. Try to bring all of them to him for a boost. He won’t attack you then unless you attack first.
Tails: he only attacks outside. Try to hang out in areas with a roof or under a tree, cause he comes from the sky. He giggles first to warn you what’s to come. Try to get under a roof or tree to avoid him. If you don’t have that option, he’ll swoop down and grab your arm. He will slowly fly you higher and higher. You have to button mash to hit him so he lets you go. But be careful! Don’t let him take you too high, the higher you are, the more damage you take when you hit the ground. If you don’t hit him, he will keep taking you higher and higher before dropping you to the ground, causing an instant death.

Meeting Family Friends part 1
I know it's been awhile, but I'm back with more stories. Pokemon belongs to Nintendo, Dragon Ball Z, and all characters from it mentioned, belong to Akira Toriyama, Lord X belongs to a Twitter user who goes by losermakesgames, and Mecha Sonic belongs to Takashi Iizuka. Everyone else belongs to @hiddeninthenullandvoid, who is helping me with writing for the next while or so.
It had been a few weeks since had trained with her dad and with various others in the multiverse, such as Goku, Vegeta, and Beerus. She was exhausted, even after a week long break, she still felt her muscles ache from the strain she put on them. Immortale, ever the kind soul, let her take a break back at her own universe, where she was currently relaxing underneath a tree. It was spring, warm weather, the sounds of other pokemon playing in the tall grass, and the smell of fresh air. She took a deep breath of the fresh air, not wanting to do much of anything as she felt her body melt into the ground below her in a relaxing way. She then heard the sound of a portal opening and her father stepping through, the portal closing behind him.
“So, Gia…” X said after it closed. “I hope you’re feeling a bit better from all that training.”
Gia responds that she is, but wishes her soreness would go away as she gets up and rubs her front left leg where she could still feel a bit of leftover pain. He mentions that it’ll take time to heal and to rest for a bit longer. He mentions that it will help her get stronger. While she rests her sore body, X tells Gia why he is here.
“I have a surprise for you. I’d like to take you on a little adventure, show you some of my friends, does that sound good to you?” asks X.
“Sure…beats doing nothing. Can I say goodbye to my friends first?” asks Gia, getting up on all fours.
“Of course,” X responds happily, knowing how important it is to keep in touch with friends.
---
Gia runs off to the usual meeting place, where everyone decides to hang out and play some Pokemon games. Elan looks up from what they’re playing and tackle hugs Gia.
“My father wants me to meet some friends of his,” the female Eevee explained. “So I’m going to be going on a bit of a multiversal road trip for a while. I figured I’d let you guys know ahead of time before I went.”
They all were ok with it, Reme wishing he could go on one someday too while Elan felt like something major was going to happen. The male Eevee made her promise to stay safe with one final hug, and she promised while he hugged back. Water Gun told her “Good luck.” before asking for her to bring back something cool for him.
With the goodbyes said, X picks up Gia and sets her on his shoulder, before focusing his power into a small, rusty ring. The ring expands, becoming larger than X, with a portal opening in the center of the ring. It showed a field of dying grass, with a yellow sky. The scent of blood wafts from the portal, making Gia’s nose scrunch up in disgust. X steps through the ring, and into the strange new world. Once there, the ring closes behind them, and X sets Gia down on the ground. The grass feels rough under Gia, like walking on sandpaper almost. There weren't any sounds of animals to be heard, only the sounds of wind and waves crashing against rocks. It put Gia on edge as she walked through the field, looking up at X, wondering who he was meeting here.
“This place belongs to an old friend of mine, Lord X. He’s a good guy, I think you’ll get along just nicely.”
Gia looks forward again, and spots a strange looking hedgehog, leaning against a tree. She slowly approaches, and the hedgehog turns, facing Gia. They are a bit on the short side, with periwinkle colored fur, black eyes with red X’s for pupils. They smile, their teeth being a dark yellow in color. X waves to them, and they wave back.
“Ah, X, good to see you my friend, what brings you here?” says the hedgehog, whom Gia can only assume is Lord X.
“Good to see you too, I’m taking my daughter Gia on a little adventure. Wanted to introduce her to you first.” says X, motioning to Gia.
Gia waves and introduces herself as the one being talked about. Lord X walks a bit closer, and kneels down to look her in the eyes. He softly laughs, and reaches a gnarled hand out to scratch under Gia’s chin, which she slightly pulls back at.
“No need to worry, I’m just wondering how you’re so…different than your fathers, you mustn’t be born from…normal means, are you?” asks Lord X.
X clears his throat, catching Lord X’s attention.
“Yes, Gia was found as a normal Pokemon egg, which Immortale went and healed. She’s the 2nd oldest child.”
Gia nods to confirm it’s true. Lord X stands up, and stretches a bit.
“So, we’ve been introduced, you need to leave, or do you wish to stay for tea?”
X nods, and looks over into the setting sun.
“That would be nice, you aren’t currently transmitting, are you?”
Lord X shakes his head no.
“Transmitting?” Gia asks mostly to herself aloud. “Transmitting what?”
“No, I’ve gotten a shot, won’t be transmitting any X-12-” Lord X stops, and looks to Gia.
“X-12, a virus that turns people like you, into demons like me.”
“I’ve never heard of it,” She explains.
“Well, both of your fathers have it, lucky son of a gun can’t transmit it, at least not in the normal sense.”
“Is that why I don’t have it?” She asks.
“Your dad said it just a bit ago, you were made from an egg, not through the normal means. So you didn’t get it through genes. I have a kid of my own, made the normal way, and they have it because I have it. Passes down through parents to the kids."
“Oh,” Gia responds, feeling a bit dumb before remembering the tea. “You said something about tea, didn’t you?”
Lord X nods, “That I did…here, I’ll take us there.” Lord X turns away from Gia and X, and begins to walk through the field.
“Come along now, it’s only a few minutes from here on foot.”
X walks behind Lord X, following him through the field, while Gia quickly runs to catch up with them.
---
The sun continues to set on the horizon, and it slowly grows darker and darker, with no sight of Lord X’s home anywhere. The sky slowly fades from a dull orange, to a dark red. It’s also getting hard to see, but soon, a large building can be seen in the distance.
“There’s my home, it took a bit longer to get here than I thought…” says Lord X.
“How long does it normally take?” Gia asks curiously.
“It takes about 10, maybe 15 minutes normally for me,” says Lord X. Gia looks at the large building, trying to figure out what it is. It looks like a large mansion, with dark purple bricks. There isn’t a fancy yard, just a simple dirt path that leads up to the front doors. Lord X leads X and Gia up to them.
“Here we are, once inside, feel free to make yourself at home, I’ll have someone make the tea.” Lord X goes up to the door, and goes to open it.
Thanks again for reading and yes we have returned to present day type stuff. Once again, @hiddeninthenullandvoid is being a cowriter of sorts for me for however long it needs to happen. It might be a short while or a long while, but for the time being they're going to help me write these stories. Thank you for reading, and sorry it's probably longer than usual.
