I appreciate your admiration towards my artwork but this is a very disrespectful thing to ask of me. I'm not sure if this is an innocent ask, I don't see how it is because I know you've heard black people ask other cultures to not appropriate our hairstyles but I could be wrong, if this is innocent below are my boundaries, and explanations on why I (Kiko Vanity; I'm not speaking for the whole black community) I'd like to not be asked things like this in the future.

my boundaries and why

I do not make hair for people of color. People of color is a broad way to say people who are not of White/European/Anglo-Saxon phenotypes. That means people of Asian, Hispanic/Latino, African, Mixed-Race, and Aboriginal descent; and I create CC for simmers who appreciate my artwork but mainly and ideally create CC HAIRS for simmers of African descent, (including mixed race if they also have African descent) because of the lack of black hairstyles in the initial release of the game in 2014, with that, these black simmers create sims that also reflect their environments and black upbringings. I make black content if you feel comfortable downloading my content you should be comfortable saying black. I want to stress black and not African-American (despite me being African American) because there are different ethnicities for each race, including black people.

2. I am not currently taking hair requests because I'd get too many at one time and that's not great for my mental health. To piggyback off the last sentence and statement 1, please do not request my cultural hairstyles using someone who doesn't respect our wishes. You may be asking yourself, "why is this an issue? hair is hair?" (look below)

During chattel slavery, every fiber of the enslaved Africans' lives was controlled by the narcissistic people who kidnapped them. including hair, being made to cover their hair, and calling them names & degrading them for their natural hair. As the years went by and slavery ended black people but more specifically black fem presenting people held the shame for their hair. Fast forward to today, even with all the turmoil the world is facing due to greed, classism, and the patriarchy) this is the first time in history that their descendants (me being one of them) can set boundaries and say what we are comfortable with and what we are not comfortable with. And to put this as bluntly as I can:

Do not send me videos/photos/gifs of people culturally appropriating in black people's hairstyles, it's anxiety-inducing.

I'd like to also say I'm not angry because I know there is an angry black person stereotype, this is simply uncomfortable and disheartening. I hope you can respect my wishes if not please feel free to block me.

You don't have to respect or do anything I am saying. You may do as you wish after reading this. Just if you are going to engage with me these are my boundaries.

Pride Collection CC Kit by make_it_sizzle

I’m excited to announce the release of my Pride Collection CC Kit. On this special month of June, we celebrate Juneteenth and Pride month. As an African American man who also happens to be gay and play The Sims, creating this CC kit was so important for me. I truly feel as though the spirit of Storme DeLarverie should be in each and every one of us, which is why I named one of my CC items after them.

Below is a brief history of the two holidays.

If you do not already know, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Celebrated annually on June 19th, its origins date back to 1865. On June 19, 1965, General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were now free. However, the enslaved people had no idea they had already been emancipated. That June 19th announcement arrived 2 and a half years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863.

The first Pride was a riot. Pride Month is an annual celebration of many of the contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to cultures, society, and history worldwide. Pride commemorates its roots in the Stonewall Riots that occurred on June 28th, 1969. As was a common practice in many cities, the New York Police Department (NYPD) would occasionally raid bars where gays and lesbians were known to gather. On June 28, police dragged patrons and employees out of Stonewall In, a popular gay bar in Manhattan, New York, and several people fought back against the NYPD. It was said that Storme DeLarverie, a gay rights activist, threw the first punch at the riot. A crowd of people slowly but surely grew which turned into a 6 day protest which was led largely by Black LGBTQ+ women that marched the streets of Manhattan.

New York Brownstone building

Hi, my fellow simmers! ♡

Today I’m sharing with you a New York Brownstone building!

It has in total 8 apartments but I renovated the 3 of them. They are all designed in different styles.

The first one is a built-in smart apartment for a family of four with only one bedroom but a lot of storage space!

The second one is an exotic apartment inspired by the Latin American and African cultures so I imagined the couple who lives here came from the different sides of the world and decided to combine their cultures in their city apartment.

The third one is a green apartment designed to be perfect for plant parents and plant lovers.

I also decorated a small community space on top of the roof and a tiny industrial street bar.

Hello! Lot's of questions here. thank you for helping me procrastinate

9. What type of CC can you never resist downloading?

Anything bee-themed, moth-themed, or butterfly-themed will always have my heart. I will not resist downloading them at all. Anything science fiction or fantasy because I love making my own book characters in the sims.

10. How would you describe the way you play the sims?

I am a chaotic player when I am not recording let's Play. I will jump from playing a family to building a home on a random lot. I will go to a different family and give them an entire story. Jump into CAS and make another family and add them into the game. One of my save files is so full of families I've made that it takes a while to load.

11. What type of pack are you hoping they make next?

Honestly, I would love a pack-themed off Paris or South Africa. I would love to see the gameplay and what they could do. Plus, the one with South Africa, would add more diversity and more content for African sims. If they do not do those, I would love if fairies would be added in or something that gives families some more to do.

12. A lot of people talk about what’s NOT in the sims 4 that they wish was, but what is your favorite feature that IS in the sims 4 (from the base game or a pack)?

Honestly, I love the features that came with Cottage Living. It is one of my favorite Expansions next to Eco Lifestyle. I love gardening and caring for the animals; all of the CAS and Build Buy are amazing. With eco lifestyle, I love that you can help make the world greener and that it adds solar panels and wind turbines. I use Eco Lifestyle stuff more than Cottage Living but love everything that Cottage Living is.

13. How long have you been playing the Sims and how did you get into it?

I started playing the sims I would say in 2016/2017. I was at my friend's house and she introduced me to what I realized was the sims 4. I bought the sims game for Christmas and I bought sims 3 and had almost all of the packs then lost most of the codes and had to start over. In September 2017, I bought the sims 4 and I haven't touched the Sims 3 much, but I do play it when I want to feel nostalgic. I had the sims 2 deluxe on disc but my current PC does not have a disk reader in it so I cannot download it.

14. Why did you decide to start a Simblr?

I have been part of the sims community for a while and that includes Tumblr. I could probably link you all to my old simblr's because I have lost the passwords or deleted the emails I used for them. I joined because Tumblr doesn't murder the quality of photos and it's an easy place to share cc.

15. How many hours have you spent playing the Sims?

Currently, 5056, and it went up from 4700 which is what I had in May. I have fallen asleep a few times playing the game, luckily I was usually in build mode or the game paused because of a pop-up.

16. How do you choose names for your sims?

Pinterest is my best friend. I use a board I created for writing and chose the names from that. I occasionally will just randomize the names the game provides or I will ask friends to help me with names. I will also put polls on Twitter to help decide on names when I can't.
