hackearney fic exchange ideas
a few people seemed interested in it, so here’s how I’m picturing it playing out! if enough people are willing to sign-up (like >5?) I’ll go through with it and set up things up? everything I’ll list below are just suggestions though & I’m totally open to changing things!
completed works only with a minimum word count of 1000 words (no maximum)
anonymous prompt assignments until final author reveals
2-week sign-up period from around September 19-October 3
assignments out within a week after the sign-up deadline (October 9)
final deadline submissions by December 5 (this gives people about 8 weeks to draft & edit)
author reveals on December 9 or 10
since it’s a ship-specific exchange, I think participant matching will be fairly straightforward! in the sign-ups, you would include at least two different prompts (and you can interpret ‘prompt’ however you’d wish—missing scene, an AU, a dynamic or vibe, but just keep in mind that a super specific prompt might be difficult for your assigned writer to fill). you’d also specify what you absolutely do not want to receive or write (in your offer section for what you’ll write). I think if at least five people sign up for it, I’d be happy to proceed, but obviously I’d love to get more people to participate!

Maybe Lilith's prompt is not exactly one you'd like to see, but that's why you should come on and join us at the upcoming Warrior Nun Commentfic Fest!
Starting June 1st and going up to July 31st, I'll be running a little party over on Dreamwidth, the link to which I'll provide as soon as it starts.
It's pretty simple: you pop up in the comment section of the post where the event will occur, you leave a comment with a prompt (say, "Ava/Beatrice, training so hard in Switzerland that one of them gets hurt and needs to be nursed by the other" or "Jillian/Suzanne, the morning after Adriel's defeat" or even "Any, actually finding Mary", the possibilities are endless) and then you wait around to see if anyone makes that fill, perhaps by filling another prompt someone else left yourself.
The catch is that you need to limit your story to the comment character limit. As it's 16.000 characters, you should be fine!
Anon prompts and fills are allowed, so you don't need to have a Dreamwidth account to participate -- even if it would be nice so as to allow you to track the post and any new additions to it or to edit your entries should you make a mistake (if you're going to post on anon even while having an account, though, you still won't be able to edit) and also because DW is just pretty dang cool.
Watch out for the link to the fest, it'll be posted as soon as it starts!

Calling All Catholics!
Weird thing for a Jew to post I know I know but hear me out here.
I would like to hear from Catholics (current and ex/raised),
what do you feel separates your religion from others (both other sects of Christianity and other religions as a whole? what feels unique or specific to you/your culture/your beliefs/your church? this can be theological beliefs, practices, or even aesthetics
what things feel "inherently Catholic" or "Catholic coded" to you?
if you don't mind, would you also include what subset of Catholicism you are/were raised in (Roman, Byzantine, Irish, Opus Dei, etc)?
As you may have guessed, this is for research, and I personally only have experience with Roman Catholicism (and limited experience at that, more cultural than truly religious). I would love to hear from a larger subset of people. My family is extremely Italian Catholic but that's just one very specific version, and I don't have much/any experience with any others. I'm curious to see what the common ground is.

So we know that they have Life Day in Star Wars, which I've assumed is the equivalent of Christmas? A lot of you guys did stuff for "Kinktober" so now I'm going to propose something if it's not already been proposed?

Each Day you choose something that is in the Holiday Spirit. Here is my list that I will be sticking to if you want to go off of it. If you want to do something different, that's alright too! pretty much just echoing what other anons are saying about the absolute lack of nuance that armys have fostered where anyone who has a negative opinion about anything the members do is just an uncultured hater who wants the entire wrath of stan twitter to fall on x member.
while i do think black armies are absolutely correct about the virtue signaling and pearl clutching that white armies tend to do when it comes to sexual references in hip hop/rap outside of bts and agree that it is largely based in racist stereotypes. i think the “bora glasses” are causing them to miss the point of a lot of the uproar. its not about lyrics being sexual bc this (for the most part) did not happen with latto’s verse. in addition, a lot of them hate to admit they find this language attractive bc its the kind of stuff we have been socialized to expect from men since we are little girls. i am latina and grew up around reggaeton (heavily influenced by rap and hip hop) where a min. 80% of the music is extremely degrading and objectifying of women. even as a queer adult woman in her late 20s while i acknowledge this issue with the genre (and have heard much more explicit things) a lot of that music is extremely nostalgic to me. so i understand the cognitive dissonance but i cannot accept that from men i expect better from (not JH obviously lol).
and yes, i do think this is a bad look for JK even if he didn’t sing or write that part bc either he’s aware of the meaning and has no problem with it or is that oblivious to not even know what someone is saying on his own damn song. the fact that an alternate version even exists with this collab tells me that the check cleared before someone in a board room went “actually maybe not”.
despite my deep respect for BTS throughout the years, at the end of the day I will always acknowledge that they are men. they are not some sexless unicorns raised in a place with no misogyny or gender roles, they are men and like most other men they engage in behavior that often betrays the respect of most women whether consciously or subconsciously. we simply may not see it bc they are celebrities with pretty curated online personalities. now, that doesn’t mean i think they’re secretly chauvinistic pigs but despite my respect for them i always keep a degree of distance bc they *could* be.
i will add that the “bora glasses” are a hell of a drug. the double standards when it comes to the members vs other celebrities is insane (and i dont even like most celebrities lol). i know not a single one of these armies would think twice about talking shit about a song like this if it were from anyone else and that’s what really disappoints me about what our spaces have turned into.
I really appreciate your perspective on what the previous anon said , given your own personal experiences and culture. I'm obviously not the best person to speak on this subject.
I agree that the "bora glasses" are a real thing. It seems to me that even "normal" Armys are complaining a bit about the song, however, which is good. But I don't know that the solo version exists simply because Hybe foresaw the original would upset people. They likely wanted to recreate with 3D what they did for Seven - two versions counting as one, or at least another version to boost streams apart from the instrumental. Since it didn't make sense to have a clean and explicit versions again, and because maybe they knew some fans hadn't liked Latto's verses or Seven being a feature, they used the same strategy they applied to TXT's Back For More recently, and recorded a solo version.
I also agree that BTS are men, so, like all men, they're probably a lot more insensitive and ignorant to sexism than we imagine, and say or do a lot of things that would disappoint us (though I don't believe they're secretly chauvinistic pigs at all).

okay. so that was. okay. so ill give a little (unfortunately long) update here ig.
-this conversation was prefaced by me being like hey can i talk to you abt something and she was like yeah and i instinctively said slay and then stalled by going ‘do you ever say slay’ and she was like ‘no i dont feel like it’s my place’ and i was like ‘oh why’ and she said ‘because im a straight woman.’ so we’re back to that. and i was like ‘oh yeah ok sometimes i feel funny saying it actually im trying to stop.’ whatever
-started out SO strong just being like whew. okay. remember when i asked if something was up last week. lol this feels weird. okay anyway so i like you,
-went on to say we seemed to click so well when we first met (she was like yeah!) and i guess there was a point where i thought she might’ve felt the same
-but didn’t know if she was straight/eventually found out abt Bf and then ran into them and things seemed weird
-she cut in at this point about Hammock day and was like oh im sorry we were really drunk and i knew i needed to get stuff to u so im sorry if i was being awkward. and i was like sick well i didnt know that but it was awkward because he was being a little rude to me

hi babes, first *big fan big fan*. i used to write a bit on here and honestly just got too out of it but your works high key kinda inspired me to get back into it. i've had this idea for a whiskey fic and like started an obnoxiously detailed outline but since i'm not rly in the fic space, i'm hoping to find someone that i could bounce ideas off of. could i ask what you did when you first started? i want to be able to continue to motivate myself, and obviously while external validation is not the most important, it is a part of it lmao. i appreciate you and hope you're enjoying your august, you talented thing, you!
Hi lovely! Thank you for your kind words, I'm seriously blushing so hard and so happy for you that you're getting back into writing! I got a bit nostalgic looking back at my Tumblr journey, but here it goes -
I started off on Tumblr the same way many did - by lurking 😂 Coming from FF.net and a few years away from fic in general, I was amazed by the community I saw. It took me a few months to work up the courage to reblog and comment on the fics that I was silently reading, and I was amazed when writers replied! It was such an adrenaline rush, being part of a community, which I've never experienced before.
When I posted my first fic, a Din oneshot, I didn't have any friends or mutuals. The fic got mostly likes, and I was so happy about it because I used to get so little interaction on FF. Everything changed when I posted Consent. It gained a readership thanks to all my wonderful readers who reblogged it, and I was very fortunate that a couple of established writers very very kindly read and reblogged it.
One thing that I've always done from day one is to respond to every single person who interacts with my fics. It's so important to me that my readers know that I appreciate them so so much. It's through interacting that I met my first friends - both fellow writers and readers - most of whom I'm still friends with today.
So what I'm trying to say, very ineloquently, is that I got started by getting involved in the community, and I still do my best to be as active as I can. I (try to) read fics (sorry time is so tight lol), I reblog fics/art/gifs, I signal boost fics that I don't have time to read, I chat to my friends. Interaction is the bedrock of our community, and especially for creators, it's the way to meet like-minded people. And in building your community, hopefully you'll find people who will become friends who will cheer you on, and you will cheer on.
Having said all that, everyone goes about Tumblr differently, this is just my experience. I didn't go into Tumblr with a 'plan' either, this is just the way things panned out for me over the past year and a half. I hope you have fun getting into the community! If you do end up writing that Jack fic, let me know, I would love to signal boost 😘

Synopsis:

Update 2022!
Hello and Happy New Year!
I wanted to update you all that I just got signed on with a publisher! This means that I’m going to need a little extra patience with updates on my fanfics because publishing takes a lot of work and I’m new to it. I will update fanfics when I have time to, so don’t worry. :)
This being said, I want to thank you all so much for supporting me and reading my writing! Without you all I would have never had the courage to post my fanfics online, self-publish myself, or try for a publisher! Because of you all, I conquered my anxiety about posting my writing and my art! You are all amazing and I appreciate you more than you all know! <3

this is fascinating stuff. thank you for sharing this post, it definitely put fourth a more intelligent take than i had. no, i’m not diagnosed with autism*, so i cant speak to this from my own experience. that’s why i appreciate you offering up a much more informed opinion.
i was just so excited to see what seemed to me to be real representation that the community is sorely lacking, and got my hopes up that the actor herself was autistic too. you’re also accurate to point out that she has only never disclosed that she’s autistic, which is an important thing to keep in mind.
in all, i’m thankful you pointed out @kay-tf-volution’s post, so i can educate myself. it is a tough one - should allistics even post their opinions about autistic media online? i’m not sure, i just wanted to signal boost the conversation and hopefully prompt (exactly this kind of!) discourse

Aw such a great opportunity! but I'm afraid I won't have time cuz I'm busy, have to do a lot of works and can't do them even if they're not that hard at the same time :/ I don't know I just feel so lazy almost everyday and I'm still improving my art + finding my art style- so i could draw faster because these art pieces takes hours or even days like my first art piece Trystan x Mc with the dog is like 18 hours lol💀 I spend most of my time staring at it, thinking what to do, adds lighting to this and then regret after (still working on my lighting btw) so that..
