East Asian fanartists are starting to migrate back to Tumblr because Twitter is insane, toxic, and dying, and what we're NOT going to do is let the fucking exclusionists get them, do you hear me? We are not going to let a bunch of feral idiots try to apply the most myopic version of puritanism to foreign artists we're not we're not we're not. Form an armed brigade if you have to, do you hear me. We're not going to bully the artists who may or may not even speak English because we have our precious standards of moral purity. If we see art that makes us uncomfy we're going to block the artist and tumblr savior their name so we don't have to see them again AND WE'RE GONNA MOVE THE FUCK ON.

Tumblr is giving us a lot of different dashes but the thing is no one wants "for you" so what I propose instead is you give me the ability to make mini-dashes with specific subsets of people I follow. Let me follow 300 people but then sort them into category. Let me have one dash for all my aesthetic stuff, another for news, another for my weird feral friends. Am I the only one who wants this? Maybe. Give it to me anyway.

Today my tumblr shoelaces arrived in the mail. I had to explain the ENTIRE saga of tumblr shoelaces to my mother while my brother (also a grown adult in his 30s) groaned loudly from his office. My mother, however, was delighted. She has declared her intent to compliment people's shoelaces and watch their expressions. (She is 67 and apparently an agent of pure chaos.)
She also asked me to "tell tumblr" that she thought the whole thing was "delightful" and that we are all "very funny people."

the more you're forced to interact with social media in the way of present-day mildly to moderately successful authors the more admiration and mild jealousy you have towards @drchucktingle who is so goddamn real and genuine. i think the reason everyone thinks it's a persona or an act is because that's what everyone tells you to do as an author. it's all 'five reasons you should read this book' tiktoks not mentioning you're the author and cultivating your online persona and the worst part is all of that is genuinely good advice. we can't all be chuck tingle. it's HARD. he's always getting pushback and misrepresented. but writing as a career would be so much more joyful if it was easier to be genuine and normal instead of also having to be your own advertising squad in a social media sphere that values clickability over reality

Seeking Mutual Aid
Well guys, it's finally happened. It's my turn to pay the piper. It's my turn to beg for money online.
The context: up until very recently, I was the full time caretaker for my disabled brother, despite being similarly disabled myself. I also was going to school full time and working. I make $800/month and that was enough to survive because I also got a decent chunk of FAFSA every semester.
Then, my grandmother got sick. My mother, who lived with us about half the time, left to take care of her, and took her financial support with her. Suddenly I was not only the sole caretaker of my brother but also a large 3bed/2bath house with a full garden, all while going to school and trying to work. Just to afford food, I wracked up large amounts of debt with the assumption that when FAFSA came in the fall, I'd be able to pay it off.
But the work was too much. I couldn't finish my classes, and had to take incompletes. This resulted in me losing my financial aid. I managed to get the funds together (mostly by guilting family) to afford my last semester of college, but now there's the matter of all that "buying food" debt. We lost SNAP in the middle of all of this because they added work requirements (I wasn't eligible at all, being a student, but my brother had been. Obviously he can't work, but my support makes him not qualify for disability status either.)
The short of it: to stave off the demons of interest rates, I need like $1500 by the middle of October. That's. A lot. I make $800/month, so I can kind of do it if I uhhhhh *checks notes* don't buy food for 2 months. Hm. An issue has been detected.
I hate this because I almost fucking made it in life without having to get on my knees and beg strangers on the internet for cash (giving them my full legal name in the process), but here we are. It's at least an "any amount helps" situation and not a zero sum game, so I'm passing the hat around to see if anyone can throw in a dollar. If you can't, consider reblogging, in case anyone else can.
Paypal: solitare_lee (at) yahoo (dot) com Zelle: available via DM Patreon: elvensemi (it's not being updated atm but in the future there'll be worldbuilding stuff if that's your thing)

Calling All Catholics!
Weird thing for a Jew to post I know I know but hear me out here.
I would like to hear from Catholics (current and ex/raised),
what do you feel separates your religion from others (both other sects of Christianity and other religions as a whole? what feels unique or specific to you/your culture/your beliefs/your church? this can be theological beliefs, practices, or even aesthetics
what things feel "inherently Catholic" or "Catholic coded" to you?
if you don't mind, would you also include what subset of Catholicism you are/were raised in (Roman, Byzantine, Irish, Opus Dei, etc)?
As you may have guessed, this is for research, and I personally only have experience with Roman Catholicism (and limited experience at that, more cultural than truly religious). I would love to hear from a larger subset of people. My family is extremely Italian Catholic but that's just one very specific version, and I don't have much/any experience with any others. I'm curious to see what the common ground is.
Reblogs/signal boosts are appreciated as I doubt I have like a SUPER broad Catholic following myself lol!

I will never forget the fact that in like 2016, QAnon shit absolutely started getting unironically posted by leftists on Tumblr who fully believed in pizzagate, and it didn't actually stop until a few years later when QAnon became widely known as a far right conspiracy theory, and to this day I believe what killed it here was the "far right" part and not anything they were actually saying bc ppl on here were so ready to believe in the pedophilia ring and secret evil cabal parts.

hey guys i'm still seeing a LOT of posts abt this so I just want to let u (or at least my mutuals) know they did fix the ability to click to get to someone's reblog of a post, at least on desktop. you just click to the RIGHT of the username in the empty space and not ON the username. now clicking the username takes you to their blog, clicking to the right of it takes you to their specific reblog of the post in question. we have both now.

I'm on a sci-fi kick right now thanks to Murderbot. I'm notably NEVER on sci-fi kicks so here is your one and only chance to recommend me sci-fi books and podcasts. Please don't recommend me sci-fi classics, I've probably already read them and I want to see what the youths are doing with the genre these days.

Hey everyone which specific line in Camp Damascus killed you? For me it was "I would love her." I had to set the book down, stare out my window, and cry for like 15 minutes.

I have a question, and I am asking you bc you're the only italian person I know who I know is Italian.
Why is Italian wedding soup just a wedding soup. I mean, obviously it's not, but did it used to be? Whyfore? It's delicious, should be an every day soup.
(can I Google this, sure. Should I, maybe. But I like asking you LMAO)
Oh I get to blow your mind. It's not, we have it all the time. It's called "wedding soup" in English because it's called like... "married broths" in Italian. It's a meat+veggie broth, that's why it's called that. :) They're married! Together forever in my pot and stomach. Nothing to do with actual weddings. My dad makes it all the time.
