From the new information that Leona can drive a car. And Yuu/MС sat in the passenger seat in front…
Well, you know, I couldn't resist.
Warning. - Light spices? Mistakes. Incorrect place names. Yuu is a girl here.
Finally taking their seats in the car that Leona used to get to the Elephant Heritage. Yuu, after a little tinkering, found how to attach the passenger seat belt to the side lock.
-I advise you not to open your mouth much, otherwise you will swallow dust.
Teased Leona by starting the engine and checking the mirrors. Finally, having comfortably "trampled" a place on Yuu's hips, Grimm sat down, stretching his hind legs and starting to smooth his white "collar" on his chest with his front paws. Yuu noticed that when a minute is given, Grimm tries to look after himself like a true cat.
And so the little car ride began. Leaving Kifaji behind, who was definitely not thrilled that one of the royal family had left without any escort. NRC students looked with interest at the landscapes spread out in front of them.
-Leona, can I ask you a question? - looking somewhere without a specific goal, Yuu could not get one event out of her head that happened this afternoon.
-What is it?
-That bus… there is no public transport in the capital that is accessible to everyone? In addition, the streets were definitely not equipped with smooth roads for transport. If this happens in the capital, then I'm afraid to imagine what is happening outside of it..
Still holding in her head the hope that this was an isolated incident, Yuu looked at the older student expectantly.
-As I have already said, they prefer to live in harmony with nature here. So…No. This requires a lot of resources that the current King does not consider it necessary to use. Public transport is scarce, but it is still there.
-But that's madness.. - Unable to believe her ears, Yuu ran her fingertips over her forehead, trying to relieve the tension from the whole whirlwind of thoughts and questions.
It's none of her business. It is not necessary to interfere if it does not concern you directly. She won't be able to do anything anyway. Gathering her thoughts, Yuu exhaled heavily, trying to concentrate on admiring the scenery.
-If things go on like this…the people in the shadows will no longer tolerate ….and….Farena will not see the age of majority Cheka. - Yuu mused softly, remembering his dream from the events during the Magift. Maybe she shouldn't take everything so seriously, but she can at least try to give a hint. That it will not end well if everything goes on in the same way.
-Should I ask where you got such warnings from?
-Just a logical thought. Nothing more. - That's right, no one will believe that her dream can be some kind of malicious omen, or the fate of fate.
-Maybe you have heat stroke, too, like Jack? - Leona chuckled.
Suddenly feeling something very hot on her knee, Yuu unexpectedly discovered …what…. Leona's hand was resting on her knee. While he was shifting the gearbox using the lever, deciding to let his hand rest on a softer surface. And his palms were damn hot compared to her body temperature. Although considering that Kingscholar was from hot lands, it was expected to maintain the necessary thermoregulation of the body.
-What….Leona, your hands are hot as boiling water, are you okay yourself?
Noticing that his animal ears twitch slightly when he is definitely in the mode of a smug arrogant ass, Yuu tilted her head questioningly. What were the thoughts in the head of this obnoxious lion??
-Yeaaaaah, your feet are cold. The ideal temperature. The steering wheel heats up from the sun, but I need to cold them down ~
Leona's hand moved slightly up to her hip, this guy definitely lacked a bit of restraint right now. Or sanity. Startled by the movement, the Prefect's cheeks and the tips of her ears began to rapidly turn red. Not only was it an extremely strange sensation due to the difference in temperature, but now a slight compression from Leona's fingertips was added to it. But without having time to do anything. A series of attacks with Grimm's paws immediately began on Leona's hand. The third-year student had to hurriedly pull his hand away and shake it off from the slight tingling of a series of cat attacks. The little demon wasn't going to share his favorite place with anyone.
-Keep your hands to yourself! This is my henchman Leona! Not yours!
-Now it's clear why you put Yuu in the passenger seat. -Vil snorted irritably, noticing the prince's behavior.
-Watch the road, Leona. Until I personally threw you out of the car at full speed. - Vil added, hearing Grimm snort and grumble at Leona.
No one really noticed that Yuu turned away from everyone and covered her face with her palms, trying not to burn from embarrassment. Mentally going over all the inner universal screams known to her.

Complete Monster Near Miss: Bowser from The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Tumblr media
Qualifications
Heinousness Standard: Pass.
Burns down the penguin kingdom and captures everyone in it in order to obtain an extremely powerful item.
Is shown to mistreat Kamek, his second-in-command and hype man, and the rest of his army, forgetting what a Spiny is and burning a koopa who questions him to death.
Tortures Luigi in order to get information about Mario out of him.
Attempts to marry Peach against her will, also trying to sacrifice hundreds of prisoners of war "in [her] honor," Luigi included.
When she rejects him, he straight up tries to nuke the Mushroom Kingdom.
Nobody is able to really compete against him, as the only character with his resources.
Lack of Redeeming Qualities: Pass.
It's worth noting that Bowser's mainstream counterpart has a ton of redeeming qualities: he cares about his son, he's willing to team up with Mario on occasion, and perhaps most importantly he legitimately cares about Peach in the games; in this movie, he clearly has a possessive desire for her, given the fact that his response to her rejection is attempting to destroy her kingdom.
Taken Seriously: Not quite (see below)
Other Qualifying Factors: Pass.
Disqualifying Factors
Given this is Illumination we're talking about, there are several moments where he's played for laughs, the Peaches scene and his defeat included. However, he's still taken rather seriously for an Illumination villain,

(macarena achaga , 27, she+her) welcome to foresight inn [ MAGNOLIA ‘MAGGIE’ JOHNSON ] the [ twenty seven ] year old from [ aurora, colorado ]. they’ve joined us from the vegas safe zone, they were a [ civilian ] there and are working hard as a [ radio manager ] to fit in. we heard they’re [ optimistic & loyal ] but maybe more importantly they’re [ clumsy & credulous ]. we hope they’re fitting in at foresight and so far they’re said to be [ happy ] about their new home.
I. BASICS
Name: Magnolia ‘Maggie’ Johnson
Age: twenty-seven years old
Date of Birth: 27 of May
Hometown: Aurora, Colorado
Occupation: Radio operator
+ traits: optimistic, loyal, determined
- traits: clumsy, credulous, naive
II. HISTORY
Born as the youngest of the two Johnson’s siblings, Maggie grew up alongside her older brother in a calm city in Colorado. Her parents had moved to The United States from Argentina before she was born, but their relationship didn’t have the happy ever after they dreamt with when they moved; Maggie’s mother went back to Argentina when she wasn’t older than three, becoming the job of her dad to raise her and her brother. Luckily, Nicholas Johnson took the job of being a good dad quite seriously; he gave both her and her brother Dylan a pretty happy childhood, with the help of his brother, Maggie’s uncle, who worked as the owner of a local radio.
Maggie spent most of her time after school in the booth with him, where she learnt the ropes of what would later became her passion. She loved everything that working on a radio entailed: from picking the music, handling the equipment or talking as the host. By the time she was twelve, Maggie was already lending her uncle a hand in the technical part of it, and ended up hosting herself after her seventeenth birthday. When her uncle fell ill, short after she turnt twenty-one, no one questioned how she became the one in charge of the radio station.
Maggie’s uncle died not too long after; a couple years later, her father followed suit. It was a sad moment for the Johnson brothers, but they weren’t allowed to drown in their grief for long, as the pandemic striked a couple of months later. Dylan always said that the old man knew what was coming, and died as to not slow them down. Maggie isn’t too sure about that.  For a while, they were okay. Since they didn’t live in a big city, they managed to fend for themselves by hunting food and staying clear of big populations. Maggie is not extremely physically fit nor particularly clever, which means that she survived mostly because of her brother, who knew how to use firearms and had the conviction to keep her safe. By the time resources finished in their city, they started heading West, after having heard from passing survivers was safer than where they were staying.  That is when things got out of control; After a couple of weeks travelling, an attack of infected forced Maggie and Dylan to lose each other. Not knowing where else to go, Maggie joined a group that she found in the road and followed them towards the Vegas’ safe zone, assuming that she would meet her brother there. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.
If Maggie continued to be able to survive, it was only because she was in a safe zone. Being fully aware of this, the young woman never believed she could do anything that was of use for the rest of the survivers. Her motto was to stay out of the way, to avoid being the cause of someone else’s demise. Maggie was definitely surprised upon finding that, actually, there was something she could help with; holding the communications with other safezones and survivors. Gladly taking the role of the one in charge of the radio, Maggie took the commitment to make up her lack of ability in other aspects of the survival and pour all her attention on the task at hand.

she was going to try to attempt to say that nj were being mistreated by hybe, particularly when it comes to branding and advertising, and that’s very funny of her considering she has been able to hand them everything on a silver platter. it’s also baffling bcs if there’s one area she absolutely can’t argue that they’ve been mistreated it’s their branding and advertising. at least hybe stans are finally admitting they have benefitted from heavy playlisting and having brand deals handed to them from day 1
what ????? she has literally been able to do whatever she wanted with the group and hybe has always provided ample resources to actualize her vision and grow the group, ESPECIALLY when it comes to advertising and marketing. hybe takes their payola extremely seriously, and nj have always benefited from that! like hybe has many many faults but lacking in the advertising and branding department is NOT one of them, this is like the most ridiculous and absurd claim she could ever make

selina draws aggro in fights aggressively. her style is extremely and insanely multifaceted — as a human, she lacks the ability for magics naturally, and she develops them over time with the addition of ranger levels — but she is absolutely chocked full of scrolls and has herself a healthy proficiency in arcane knowledge. she is always the person who’ll recognize the nature of a spell first, and even if she can’t mitigate it herself, she’s often the one to point it out.
selina’s true talent is resourcefulness — the reason you’ll keep her around is because in a fight she is insanely good to have around. besides two misty steps and the sussur dagger, she has dread ambush and executioner damage. even if selina’s not the hardest hitter, she is easily the most fucking irritating tactician on the board, and she’s always so stocked that you would have to seriously suffer and hone in on her to take her out.
and the spellcasters around her? selina will swiftly move into shadowhearts’ spirit guardians or hide behind jaheira’s owlbear when she starts to take too many hits. she waits patiently, moves everyone around them, herds them into where shadowheart can cut them down, where minsc can unload hits, where minthara can divinely smite them into oblivion.
selina is dangerous simply because she’s a survivor and she behaves as such most notably in every area of life — more than anything in combat.

'It's just chaos in here all the time': IWK emergency department sees record number of patients Sunday
On Sunday, staff at the emergency department (ED) at the IWK in Halifax registered 200 patients over a 24-hour period, a number never seen before.
The interim head of the department, Dr. Katie Gardner, says they also saw the highest number of patients among them who were triaged as seriously ill.
“On our scoring system, a level 2 patient is the second highest level and there were 66 patients who were scored as a level 2, so that's extremely busy for our department,” says Gardner.
Gardner says the emergency department is now seeing around 140 to 150 patients a day, a number that has become “sustained," compared to seeing around 100 to 120 patients a day this time last year.
Mom Daphne MacIssac rushed her nine-month-old, Bo, to the IWK Sunday around 4:30 a.m. after he began having difficulty breathing.
A previous trip to the IWK four days earlier had revealed he has RSV, also known as respiratory syncytial virus.
“I ran in there yelling, 'I need help, my baby's struggling to breathe,” recalls MacIssac.
“And we saw a doctor within 20 minutes and they gave him a really good suction, he was full of mucus and phlegm,” she adds.
She and Bo stayed in a room at the emergency department for another few hours to make sure he was going to be alright.
Gardner says some patients chose to leave emergency without being seen due to long wait times, in some cases, more than 12 hours.
Respiratory illnesses in kids, including RSV, the flu, and the common cold, are all peaking months before normal, she says.
“We're seeing an earlier surge right now, it's really hard to predict, are we just going to sustain that for several months or is it going to come down earlier as well? It's just impossible to tell,” says Gardner.
Gardner says COVID-19 cases are still present, although she says other respiratory illnesses are “causing more difficulties for children right now.”
Gardner says all of that, coupled with lack of access to family doctors and walk-in clinics, plus trouble getting over-the-counter children's cold and flu medications, are all piling on top of existing skilled staffing shortages.
The president and CEO of Children’s Healthcare Canada says the situation is similar at children’s emergency rooms across the country.
“It's an overnight crisis that has been decades in the making,” says Emily Gruenwoldt.
Gruenwoldt says over-burdened emergency departments and staff are symptoms of a system chronically under-resourced for years.
“It really comes down to the political will at this point, to acknowledge the challenges our systems are facing, the challenges our children are facing...and to make appropriate policies and investments,” she says.
She would also like to see governments create reserves of children’s medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, to avoid shortages.
“It was very scary,” says MacIssac of her trip to the emergency department with her child, although she was reassured by the level of care she received.
However, she did see lines of people waiting to be triaged when she left after both visits.
“Even when I talked to the nurse in amongst them checking in on Bo, I did ask her, ‘It’s just chaos in here all the time isn’t it?’ And she said, ‘It is,’” she says.
Gardner says, with so many respiratory viruses active right now, it’s important for parents to monitor their child's symptoms closely.
“Any concerns about those things like breathing, hydration, activity level, as a parent if your instinct is that your child is not OK, we want you to seek care.”

A big repeating theme in this movie is assimilation and this desperate desire to assimilate, met with a brick wall-- because they were never given the resources to do so in the first place. Assimilation into whiteness is what was seriously portrayed, and it was a masked guise to be called assimilation in the first place.  But at a group level, becoming white is about ascending the social hierarchy and participating in the exclusion and disempowerment of those “outside” whiteness. As racepowerofanillusion.org states, “Becoming white is about ascending the social hierarchy and participating in the exclusion and disempowerment of those “outside” whiteness.” When an immigrant enters a foreign country, the expectation remains to just comfortably acquire the necessary social and cultural capital to “make it” in the white-dominated societies today, such as the USA or UK.
The process fails to address the racial wage gap caused by the economic barriers that minorities face that were initially created by race, yet still remain due to the lack of deconstruction of the systems that support whiteness. This movie was a great example of this occurring, and also how such white-dominated communities succeed at brainwashing marginalized communities into thinking they have the same opportunities of success as their white neighbors (Bol, in this case). Both Rial and Bol were told to “Be one of the good ones”, an extremely racist comment ignoring the deeper social contexts of why this stereotype is perpetuated at all.
This consumeristic desperation of assimilation from Bol was also met with a type of ownership that Bol appeared to have over Rial’s possessions, her desires and wants, and her needs. As Tinnin states in “Whither the Gender of Get Out: A Critique of the Cinematic Possibilities of the Black Political Imagination",   “Thus, black women are central to explications on the co-constitutive functions of race, gender and sexuality as racial-sexual violence haunts the present material, imaginative and discursive landscape” (41). There are many times in this movie where Rial’s experience as a black woman is shown in the light, but Bol seems to have taken the lightstick away multiple times. I still question the title and whether it is tackling simply Bol’s desire for assimilation as opposed to Rial’s, but what about her part in the story? Rial’s trauma, and her process of accepting it as a part of her life, was shown many times throughout the movie as it mostly related to her losing her family and friends, and Nyagyak as well, which was a very important highlight in this movie regarding her sole experience.

Another post of “what did I do today in No Man’s Sky” where the answer is of course “BUILD MORE BASES!!!”. Also a ton of chasing down pirates, delivering packages, gathering resources, and so forth and so on.
Finally have the shore parts of my underwater base complete enough to show them off; that was my main effort today, building-wise. Having now spent a bunch of time gathering resources underwater, I am seriously rethinking what I want to do with the underwater part of the base. There’s like one well-decorated module of the current bit I want to keep; I figure I’ll keep it and the Nautilon pad right there, then further out where the water is deeper and the view prettier, build a second underwater section to watch the fishes from.
While exploring elsewhere today I tripped over a location that would have been awesome for an underwater base; small island, steep drop-off, and at the bottom, multiple big openings into some really huge caves. If it wasn’t for it being an extreme radiation planet, I might have snagged the spot; would have been fun to try building a mostly-vertical structure that went all the way down into the caves. (Also, what is with me ending up for extended periods of time on extreme planets? I saw the accomplishment go by for 20 sols survived on them while trying to find the one remaining critter I hasn’t scanned yet (a rare fish, which is how I tripped into those caves.))
Side note - having finally produced fuel for it, I am so not impressed with the Nautilon. It’s slow and handles poorly. I’m finding the Nomad far more useful for anything water-related; just skim out to over a deep area, then stand on the canopy of it and take pot-shots at deep-water plants to gather resources. Occasionally use it as a diving raft when I spot a cluster of clams or vents.
On one of the “I use too much glass, I’m out of silicate again” resource gathering rounds, I popped back to a recent moon base where I’d flattened an area of a mountaintop to build it on. Mined away and then flattened the remaining sticking-up bits. Tweaked the base slightly (I’m just putting summoning units at most of them these days rather than specific vehicle ones, which is working well with my tendency to put a base in most of the solar systems I’ve visited). I love the view at that base; it’s a weird planet, covered in spiky protuberances, and it’s a moon in a close orbit to a ringed giant, so the sky is basically planet. So much vertigo.
The one big exception is my main base, where I have the Rover and Minotaur, and the other base on the same planet, where I have the Nomad and Colossus. Once I finish upgrading my Colossus I’ll also get a Pilgrim, just to be completist about things.
And finally the last base I built today, it and one I neglected to grab screenshots for (on the previously mentioned heavy radiation planet naturally)  both turned out to be in easy range of a power hot spot, so in both locations I experimented more with the prefab modules, since they’re power hogs. Kind of liking and hating the cuboid set. Pros: nice exterior finishes, easy to snap them together, easy to building multi-level since yay stairs. Cons: teleports tend to drop you through the floor a lot if the cubes aren’t at ground level, if you put on the roof part you lose the ceiling lights, if you put anything under them such as the supports designed to work with them the thing projects up through the floor, the matching floor tiles over in decor don’t snap to them and can’t be used as roof cover since they can only be placed on the ground, posters vanish inside the walls instead of adhering to their surface, it’s lacking flexibility in what pieces are available (no short walls/interior railings), etc etc etc. My inner 3D artist is pounding her head against her desk at all the flaws with this set. Why wasn’t any of this caught during QA!?

MC: Filirahc Filie Arirahd
████ High Elf (?) |  ██████ █████████  | Variant Criminal: Spy
An albino elf possessing a secret. Stern, resourceful, selfish. Neutral evil aligned.
Ghost Child
A child is born in the depths of the Underdark – not to a noble drow House, yet nevertheless taken in one soon after. With doula silenced, the knowledge of said child is locked behind closed doors of the House, sealed away from the outsiders – she is too valuable to risk letting the word out.
The child has an extremely rare congenital trait – she is an albino, lacking the distinct ebony skin of the drow. Pale with a slight pink hue, but healthy in every other regard, she isn’t seen as an insult to Lolth’s image, but rather a blessing, a gift to restore the House’s former glory and through her deeds please the goddess. The child is given the name Filirahc, “white serpent”, and in constantly changing political game between iblith and the drow she is expected to be a wild card.
Great Pretender
An albino drow isn’t much different from a surface elf with the same condition, therefore can easily pass as one. This is what Filirahc is trained for throughout her entire youth – walled from the rest of the drow society, she is taught by mentors of the House and their slaves alike. To walk among iblith as one of them, Filirahc has to learn their history, customs, languages and speech patterns to act natural, gain extensive knowledge in the field she would operate in on the surface, and on top of it all endure the hardest part – adaptation to sunlight, to a point where she could blame her residual sensitivity on albinism, but no longer be hindered by it like her kind usually is.
Filirahc isn’t allowed to leave the House or even her designated wing on her own, especially without some sort of disguise, but she is secretly escorted close to the surface on the regular basis since she was a child. At first – during night time, but with patience and years of practice she eventually overcomes relentless brightness of daytime sun, finally getting ready to be sent off for a long-term undercover work to advance the plans of the House.
Snake in the Grass
Filirahc steps into her new life on the surface as “Filie Arirahd”, a false identity crafted with that specific purpose and a few ties pre-made in case she is checked. “Filie” poses as a high elf, balancing between stereotypes and believability, and moves in predominantly human circles (playing it safe with how little they tend to know about her “kind” in close detail), but with small percentage of elves still being present, to avoid unnecessary suspicions. She doesn’t shy away from using her albinism as a crutch, not only to cover her remaining sensitivity to bright light, but also to exaggerate first impressions and appear frail, delicate, physically incapable of being a threat.
In reality this is far from true – her hand won’t falter with a blade, she’s well-versed in poison and has a few magical tricks up her sleeve – however, Filirahc isn’t eager to prove it. She is taught to be more flexible when it comes to interactions with iblith on their territory, and regardless of how superior she feels, it is of grave importance not to let it show, to be patient and careful with her words and acts. Violence is her last resort, for cases when there is no other choice available, not because of the kindness of Filirahc’s heart, but in order to maintain her cover and not blow up years of preparations by an ill-tempered swipe of a dagger. The only strength Filirahc is willing to show is of her character – to be taken seriously, despite her mask of fragility and health issues she fakes.
Iron Lady
“Filie” initially infiltrates the chain of iron mining and distribution, armed with qualification skills and knowledge of the entire process she received from dwarven slaves. Quality control and supervision are her desirable position, allowing her to form useful connections, as well as gain access to information regarding active iron deposits, number of workers, staff and guards involved, schedules and routes of ore deliveries and so on. Filirahc starts small –  she uses her knowledge to give the House the upper hand by coordinating a few raids to intercept ore caravans, by sending off plans of certain mines with marked weak points to sabotage them later and forge the incident reports. But all of that is child’s play, far from fulfilling her ambitions and goals.
As Filirahc’s position secures and improves, with her web of connections expanding, she becomes capable of operating on a bigger scale than just providing resources and slave miners. Raised for intrigues, she starts making clandestine arrangements to influence iron deals and prices, tips off interested parties when tides on the market need to be turned, persuades fallible and greedy middle links to tamper with quality and quantity of supplies to ruin agreements, therefore dipping her toes into economical and political relationships between different factions while slowly paving her way to weapon production and realization, in which the most valuable customers are military forces and city guards. She knows the demand and importance of control over iron, and she uses it – seemingly in pursue of interests of the House. But this isn’t the entire truth, at some point she reevaluates whose side she wants to be on.
Nurtured Serpent
Filirahc has never lived normal life among the drow. She had it relatively easy compared to those outside of the House, and was shielded from many dangers within it as well. She has grown up used to special treatment, which, while cruel at times, still cultivated the feel of being special in her. On top of general drow mentality (proud, ambitious and lacking empathy), of being disciplined to be a liar, a literal and figurative backstabber, it made Filirahc’s selfishness more overpowering than her loyalty to the House. Albinism made her more at home among the strangers, as blending in is something she unlikely could’ve achieved in the Underdark (to which she didn’t form a tangible connection to begin with due to her isolated upbringing), and education handed to her every instrument she needed to unlock social doors above, not below the surface. There is no place for devotion in her worldview, only opportunities to suit her needs, and far away from her superiors hardly anything can stop Filirahc from working for her own power and influence rather than someone else’s.
And thus begins her game of double-crossing both sides to rise above herself.
Side notes:
For obvious reasons Filirahc does not express her drow heritage in her garments, particularly avoiding spider motifs in jewelry and clothes. Snakes, however, are perfectly safe – so they slither in her wardrobe in various shapes and forms.
Moles on Filirahc’s face are all drawn, and she often changes her spots. This has nothing to do with disguising herself, a few little dots add “character” and “a finishing touch” to her looks – absence of pigment leaves her without such marks.
Back in the Underdark Filirahc was often wearing dark makeup and silks similar in tone – one that would’ve been considered “nude” if she wasn’t an albino. She shed that metaphorical skin on the surface, opting for pale pinks and other off-white colours instead, with occasional splotches of red.

What if Bella got possessed by a demon in Twilight? Like pretty standard, The Exorcist type of stuff.
A lot of you anons should just head on to Ao3 instead of my inbox because whereever you went with this fic idea, I’m sure it’d be delightful. Lulzy, but an absolute delight.
Since you say Twilight, I’ll just set the timeline to the beginning of the series, when Bella has just arrived in Forks. She got possessed just before leaving, as Renée wanted to try an ouija board.
So, for the purposes of this ask, demons are real within the Twilight universe. They have to be very few and far in between, though, since humans don’t know about them and they presumably don’t care about following the Volturi law.
Bella is Reagan and the demon Pazuzu has taken up residence within her.
As happened in The Exorcist, this isn’t very noticeable at first. Bella starts saying some messed up things, yes, enough so that the other kids at school avoid her and the teachers give Charlie a call, but she’s not running down the stairs like a spider. Charlie is worried about her behavior and calls Renée about this, but he’s not dialing up any priests just yet.
Well, Bella gets worse.
Edward, for the record, was interested in this delicious smelling girl with the mystery box brain up until she started spouting profanities in the hallways at other students. Not being able to read her mind, he assumes Bella Swan is just like that. There’s no challenge, no reward, nothing to keeping her alive, his only real reason for not eating her at this point is Carlisle. Though his sheer distaste at that vulgar human who dares to tempt him so makes him resistent to drinking her blood, just out of spite. She’s not his perfect damsel with the delicious blood, and that ruins a lot of the appeal. Not all, mind, because that blood is still delicious.
Though it does help when she’s pulled out of school. Edward can pretend vulgar hamburger doesn’t exist, even as he ruffles through her wardrobe for sweaters to huff.
Back to Charlie, whose daughter is now running down the stairs like the spider.
He sends her to every shrink he can afford, has all the doctors in Forks look at her, and none of them give him an answer he can believe. He’s at his wit’s end.
And this affliction, whatever it is, that’s affecting Bella, it doesn’t seem natural, not human. She speaks in tongues, sexually assaults herself (yes, this happens in the movie), growls and hisses like an animal, in every way acts like- well, whatever it is, Charlie’s ability to deny that this his daughter’s affliction is supernatural in origin is growing thin.
But none of the shrinks can help him with that, and Charlie is a “lapsed Lutheran”, so I doubt priests is something he’ll consider all that seriously. He needs occult help, yes, but from someone who will actually help Bella.
His mind turns towards Carlisle Cullen and his children, and how Billy reacted when they moved into town.
Charlie laughed off his friends’ fears then, thought it was ridiculous to believe the Cullens could ever be anything but human. He dismissed their unusual looks as just that, unusual looks, their too-good-to-be-true cover story as them being that wonderful, and was quite happy about it.
That was then, now his daughter is fast becoming proof that the occult is indeed real.
And Dr. Cullen is so very kind, excellent in his work as a doctor and above all knowledgeable.
Say that Billy was right, that these guys aren’t as human as they appear. Well, that makes them the only people in the world, in Charlie’s world anyhow, who might be able to help.
Which is how Carlisle has the town chief walk into his office, tell him his daughter is possessed by a demon, and that Carlisle has to come over and have a look at her.
Now, as I think demons would be extremely rare, we’ll allow that Carlisle with all likelihood hasn’t seen any of these before. Quite the contrary, he was once a man who persecuted women suspected of witchcraft. He understands Charlie a little too well, but is also not touching this exorcism quest with a ten-foot pole.
Except, the chief seems convinced that Carlisle himself isn’t entirely human.
What would a human doctor do?
Carlisle really has no choice here but to come with Charlie. Besides, no matter how one looks at it what Charlie said about Bella is highly disturbing, the girl obviously needs medical attention.
So Carlisle has a look at Bella, and his “ahahaha we’re all human in here” smile quickly stiffens as he finds that whatever’s going on with Bella, it is indeed not human. She’s spitting green goo, talking Latin backwards, inhumanly strong, impersonating Carlisle’s father, and depending on how closely we follow Pazuzu’s actions in The Exorcist she may have killed a man. There’s scars on her body spelling out pleas for help.
It becomes clear to Carlisle that this girl really does need an exorcism. Or something, anyway, this is terrifying new territory for him.
But he has neither any clue nor the authority to perform an exorcism, and he lacks the network to get his hands on a human priest who’ll do this. More, even if humans could help (and considering how misinformed they are about vampires, the odds of that are extremely slim), involving more humans than have already been pulled into this would not make the Volturi happy.
There’s really only one place to go where someone will have the resources to help this suffering human, and that’s Volterra.
There’s a risk that demons are like immortal children and Aro will kill her on the spot, but Carlisle, still spooked from father Cullen’s voice coming out of this 17-year-old girl in the 21st century, has no other recourse.
So he tells Charlie he’s taking Bella somewhere Charlie can’t follow, and it’s likely they’ll never see each other again, even if Bella is saved. Charlie is devastated, but the promise that his daughter could get better means he can’t refuse. Just the fact that Carlisle isn’t entirely human yet benign makes him the best help Charlie is able to get her.
Carlisle takes Bella to Volterra, where Aro puts on his best Max von Sydow impression and says “Ah, demons... I’ve seen this once before, in the memories of a merchant from Ur...”
Knowing Aro while not knowing the lore of The Exorcist well enough to know what to do about a demon possession if you don’t have a Catholic priest on hand, I imagine Aro dresses up in whatever it is that Sumerian priests wore thousands of years ago (he always told Caius those bedazzled costumes would come in handy someday, and look who was right! VINDICATION) and tricks Pazuzu into possessing one of the humans Heidi brought in instead. This human is promptly killed. Ta-da, Aro smiles to Carlisle, he solved the problem!
Bella wakes up surrounded by insanely beautiful people in an underground palace in Italy and remembers nothing. Carlisle gets the honor of explaining to this human girl that she was possessed by a demon, Charlie asked Carlisle to fix it, and now the nice man who makes jingling noises whenever he moves because he’s dressed head to toe in gold wants her to be a different kind of demon because he can’t read her mind.
Bella caught maybe half of that.
Carlisle refuses to elaborate on the “possessed by a demon” part. No, Bella, you did nothing embarrassing, no one thought you were weird. We hardly noticed you were possessed at all!
But he was serious about that last part, Aro noticed she has a special ability so he’d like for her to become a vampire.
Bella, still, overwhelmed, makes a phone call to Charlie explaining nothing at all but assuring him that the demon is gone. She is then made a vampire.
Edward arrives too late to the party, so late that the party is in fact over, as he didn’t believe Carlisle when he said hamburger was possessed by a demon. Now it turns out that the disgusting, vulgar girl was in fact a delicate flower and a damsel in distress this whole time. Except, now she’s a vampire. Woe! Theirs is a love that never bloomed.
Bella has no idea who this guy is, and asks Renata to make him go away.

On Jealousy
I owe this analysis/answer to an anon ask which I've accidentally posted, though only with the introduction sentence and then couldn't retrieve.🙈
Dear anon, this analysis is dedicated to you.
I HOPE YOU SEE THIS!!! 🙏🏻💫🙏🏻
Thank you @sin-with-quiche for proofreading and @lunabai78 for the spiritual support 💕💕💕
---—-----—
We have quite a number of moments in our journey with Gavin... Some are funny, some are cute, some are...mmm over the edge
(。-ω-)ノ
If you ask me whether Gavin is a jealous man, I would give you two answers:
1) Pre and early relationship... Absolutely!
2) Established relationship... The fitting colloquial term is "territorial".
In order to look at Gavin's attitude towards other males and whether to categorize them as jealous behaviour or not, first we need to describe jealousy .
Jealousy generally refers to the thoughts or feelings of insecurity, fear, and concern over a relative lack of possessions or safety.
The word stems from the French jalousie, formed from jaloux (jealous), and further from Low Latin zelosus (full of zeal), in turn from the Greek word ζήλος (zēlos), sometimes "jealousy", but more often in a positive sense "emulation, ardour, zeal" (with a root connoting "to boil, ferment"; or "yeast").
As you can see, there are different set of emotions that might boil or ferment the reaction of jealousy in one's belly.
My personal take on this is that jealousy arises from two simple things 1) Lack of self-confidence 2) Lack of trust towards one's partner (in terms of romantic jealousy). You don't get jealous when you know you're one hell-of-a-mate and are with the right person. Which is why as we will see in a minute Gavin fits the bill at the beginning but afterwards his jealousy isn't actually jealousy at all!
So which sets of emotions lead to his jealous behaviour and in which conjuncture?
We know that Gavin is completely attuned to MC. This also applies for his reaction towards the presence of other guys around her. So the type of jealousy he displays is attuned to MCs type of reaction to the source of his jealousy. He observes MCs aura and attitude carefully and then reacts in an either desirous, protective, territorial or downright pouty manner.
If he sees the person is overstepping their boundaries like TNTs Tyson or the guys catcalling her during Romantic Date, he gets protective. If he sees someone from his inner cycle being only the slightest overfamiliar with MC as in his phone call with Eli, he gets territorial and draws boundaries. If he gets ditched by MC and walks on her having lunch with another guy all the while she's being touched by him and she's not showing any protest, he pouts in the corner and stabs MC with his words "Too much of anything can get boring after a while" (love this moment and how Joe delivers this line with a strong tonation on the word - boooring-)
If he sees the person is actually drawing MCs attention, well... This is where we can look more into. Because this is actually a stereotypical example of making one jealous. Seeing your love interest with another person in an over-friendly manner.
In Trio Date, he worries that MC might have a crush on Kiro and a close relationship with him. Which is understandably an alarming situation for him, because he isn't that close to her himself and Kiro is... well... Kiro. Pretty much everyone's into him 🌟. But Gavin doesn't show any aggression or envy towards Kiro. On the contrary, he praises him for his charm and even says that he can see what people mean by that as in confessing to being charmed by Kiro himself. I really praise how elegant Gavin acts in the face of this situation 👑 Needless to say, it's a Gavin date, meaning the canon couple in this scenario is Gavin x MC (On a side note pretty bold and disrespectful of PG to put another LI in the supporting male role in a date for another tbh) And also RIP Chandler, the poor guy didn't do anything wrong ^_^
At this point I need to let one thing out of my chest though. I can't say that I appreciate him telling MC when and where to wear revealing clothes <spoiler alert> only for him. Even though we don't actually see him seriously forbidding her to wear them I think it would be better to leave her be the judge of it. But considering the fact that she gets catcalled even at his presence I can kinda see why Gavin gets protective here. On a side note, his girlfriend isn't better on this matter either. MC covers Gavin's body at the beach during 2021 summer event in CN server so that other girls don't drool over him 🤣 These two have some homework to do in that department I tell you that 😅
In the more mature phases of their relationship, we no longer see Gavin feeling himself threatened by the presence of another male. AT ALL! All Gavin jealousy after this point is only because someone is overstepping their boundaries and making "his girl" uncomfortable.
Gavin might be the one acting jealous the most frequently among the LIs, but he never ever gets possessive over her, limits her freedom or makes unconfirmed self proclaims on behalf of her. Being possessive over someone objectifies them and the moment you objectify a person, you no longer need to be in a relationship with them tbh. Leaving your partner room to breathe and respecting their personal space is important and Gavin does this the best alongside with Kiro. We also never see Kiro getting possessive, limiting or doing anything of that nature with MC.
Further in their relationship Gavin still acts jealous, but in an extremely cute, pure and harmless way. Be it against prankster ghosts, animals she's met in the middle of the desert, a wild child, service dogs, birds and co. Basically anyone and anything that diverts her attention from him for more than a nanosecond can be perceived as a threat but an adult male 😂At his core, Gav-babe wants MC all for himself but his jealousy is actually only adorkable.
(´∀`)♡
In the main story, however, there is a certain LI which becomes the magnet for Gavin's firsthand jealousy and even kinda provokes this. And this is actually what I am dying to write about in this post😈. It only happens at the beginning of the story, but I love it so much and therefore it must be in this post.
Gavin shows signs of jealousy towards one particular LI at various occasions and that is...
Tumblr media
Gavin shows obvious signs of jealousy towards our genius scientist and that is completely understandable! Lucien is the one who makes his advances first and is the most straightforward one throughout the main story. Plus, he lives right next to MC and, let's be honest here, is the only one who toys with MC's poor hormones the most. Just to give one example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gavin and MC don't become quite a couple before CH12 and S1 Gavin has some issues with self-worth and confidence (towards MC). When he meets MC again after 6 years, he is perplexed and is fairly clueless as to how to approach her romantically. Lest Gavin making the wrong moves, he acts weirdly around MC which further confuses her. Gav-babe is really weird at the beginning of the story 😅
The first time we see Gavin getting jealous about Lucien is in CH2, when he and MC spend a prolonged period of time for the first time as they investigate the time warping incident. Our birdcop is hopelessly in love with MC so when he sees her become so red on the phone with another person, he gets worked up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun trivia, Joe's reaction to this moment can be found here
The second instance is when MC spends two nights in a row with Lucien in CH5 and then falls asleep in her office.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is crucial to remember at this point that up to CH5, MC seems to be most romantically involved with Lucien and spends most of her time with him. LuLu mercilessly teasing her and flirting with her doesn't help much in that sense either because he is actively making advances on her. Thus announcing his candidacy for "Mr. Love". So when Gavin catches MC spending nights following Lucien, having phone calls with him, living right next door to him, working closely with him and blushes because of him, it's fairly understandable that our birdcop gets fairly jealous because at that point in the story Lucien seems to have a better shot at love with her than he does.
Btw, MC flatlines on his question as to who is the resource of her flustering this time around and doesn't explain herself ;)
Interestingly though, in the third instance, where Gavin sees MC and Lucien, he isn't jealous at all! In the famous "Rude Awakening" moment, the vibes we get at first is as if Gavin walks in to MC and Lucien. But actually our protective boyfriend is there to save MCs life. What's more, he doesn't give credit to Lucien's provocations, such as when he calls Gavin "dangerous" or pulls MC behind him, stays extremely close to her and plays the "protective boyfriend" in front of him. On Gavin's defense, the one actually saves MCs life and protects her is Gavin here as he deflects the bullet shot at her.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Furthermore, he asks Lucien to take MC home, albeit not before telling her that he will be contacting her later, signaling to Lucien that he shouldn't stick along for long. A highly subtle way of "marking his territory", much like a wolf would. God I love this scene both in the main story and in the anime.
It is necessary to mention at this point that the chapter following this scene revolves around Gavin and MC clearing all kinds of misunderstandings between them and MC trying to bind with him. Hence laying the first stones in the temple of their relationship. After that point we no longer see Gavin showing any kind of jealousy towards anyone. So mark CH7 people ;)
----—-----—-----—
You know what I would love to see? Gavin getting jealous over Shaw. I wonder whether he even knows that MC spends time with him 🤔 Too bad that PG has left the idea "brother conflict".
If you would like to read another perspective on this, Cheri has posted her analysis here

Big Hero 6 The Series: It could have been better
Hello, friends. Today, I will be analyzing a TV series based on a movie that I fell in love with for its colourful themes, deep plot, compelling characters, great CGI and memorable messages. Before I get into it, I want to take a moment to say that I have quit doing videos. They are too big of a pain in the petunia to make and I write better than I speak, so I will stick to writing essays, reviews and more. Anyway, onto the analysis.
All I can say about Big Hero 6 the series is that it had a great concept, it presented some great ideas and tried hard to be a cartoon of the times, but it could have and should have been a lot better. The show’s downfall all centers around trying too hard to be kid friendly which makes the shame sting all the more because Big Hero 6 was already kid friendly even with its dark themes, sharp edges and intelligent writing. If anything, even the brightest kid friendly cartoons (Steven Universe, She-Ra, etc.) had those things and actually benefitted from them. By needlessly trying too hard, character development got scrapped, the edges were all smoothed out, storytelling was subpar, the humour was too silly and the executive meddling in the end produced a dismal final season. However, I don’t want this analysis to be one lengthy negative rant about how awful the series was because in its defense, awful is an unfair word. It did have potential and ideas which are worth carrying over to a reboot that I hope will be done someday in the future. Also, we should root for a reboot because Big Hero 6 would not be the first story that needs it before striking gold. Just look at how many times Spider-Man was rebooted in film before MCU found the version that worked. Anyway, I will list all the things in Big Hero 6 that could have been better in my opinion;
Tumblr media
1- Go easy on the laughs and be more generous with the action. - I love adding comedy to my own writing because I think a good sense of humour makes everything better, but Big Hero 6 is not a stand up comedy routine. It is a superhero story where we expect action, suspense and life or death situations that are to be taken seriously first. The comedy should be for relief and with the right timing. Also, the chibi cutscenes and having characters act like fools aren’t funny. Ren and Stimpy are the exception not the standard and their way of making you laugh doesn’t fit an action series. In a show as big as Big Hero 6, real life physics and danger matters.
Tumblr media
2- Make the villains menacing and gritty. - I admit that after having a movie villain like Yokai who was the stuff of nightmares, it is going to be a challenging act to follow, but it was obvious that the writers were trying especially with some villains who could have easily gone into some dark relatable territory. For example, Mr. Sparkles (the gentleman in the photo above) embodies social media and Internet personalities. Right off the bat, you have a long list of things which embody the dark side of that like scams, fraud, using social media to dox or harass, driving people to suicide, online predators, the Internet personalities being very depressed people in real life, and much more horrifying things. When you stop and look at it, Mr. Sparkles even looks like the Joker which hints how dark and scary he could have been if the stops were removed. The same goes for enemies like Hardlight who embodies online gaming, Liv with cloning, Obake an amoral and insane scientist, and Trina and Noodle Burger Boy (more on him later) being evil robots. Globby especially should have been painted and written in much darker colours rather being played off for laughs because he has many parallels with Clay Face. The only two villains who I can say were supposed to be campy, charming and comical were Baron Von Steamer and Supersonic Sue because they were a satire of the Adam West style villains.
Tumblr media
The rest of them needed to be dark and threatening including Mr. Sparkles. In fact, I would love a rebooted version of Mr. Sparkles who gives me the heebie-jeebies. Going back to Noodle Burger Boy, I must confess that I was actually excited when I heard that he was going to be the main villain of the final season because I thought he was going to fulfill his master’s final wish and as a reminder, Noodle Burger Boy was based on a super robot for military purposes.
Tumblr media
It would have been fantastic if Noodle Burger Boy was upgraded into a full military war machine with a new threatening look. For that, I think all of the villains deserve to be rebooted and have their full potential unlocked for better or for worse.
Tumblr media
3- A show about geniuses merits genius level art quality. - I am usually forgiving towards art styles, but in the case of Big Hero 6, the oversimplified style with minimal details and lack of textures did not suit the show. The characters blend in with the background which makes them look flat and the special effects were extremely dulled down. I also know for a fact that Disney can do a lot better than this because I saw how superbly Tangled the Series was drawn.
Tumblr media
You can see and almost feel the difference in quality, the number of layers and level of detail between the two styles. I think there was no excuse Big Hero 6 was not done in the same style and at the same level if not better as Tangled.
Tumblr media
3- Don’t dumb down or flanderize amazing characters. - I absolutely detest it when characters are flanderized because it makes them one dimensional and grating. For example, Go Go is tough as nails and extremely calm, but she is not cold or hesitant towards helping her friends. She doesn’t require very special episodes for us to know that. If anything, the movie version of Go Go reminded me a lot of Garnet in how she deconstructed the broody character. She isn’t cold or emotionless. Just calm and mature. Another good example was how Honey Lemon was rewritten to be overly positive to the point of toxicity, naïve and oblivious with a juvenile obsession with stickers. Then you have poor Fred who was rewritten to be an incompetent fool. The spark that makes Big Hero 6 shine is that they are a team of geniuses meaning they are all intelligent. Even Fred is genius in his own way just not a scientific one. He has a vivid imagination, he is resourceful and can get himself out of tight spots. Please, don’t turn characters into dummies especially if their intelligence is a part of them. It doesn’t make them better or funnier. It ruins them.
Tumblr media
4- Tadashi needs closure and honour. - I am all for Hiro making peace with the loss of his brother, but Tadashi is to the Big Hero 6 team what Uncle Ben was to Spider-Man. His loss was the catalyst if not the reason. He should never be forgotten. Moreover, there was never any true closure to him especially with the possibility that he may still be alive up in the air. After all, like Callaghan, his body was never found and it turned out that Callaghan was still alive.
Tumblr media
With that said, who is to say that Tadashi was not secretly still alive and just hiding or being hidden? This is something that Disney really needed to clear up if not for the fans, then at least as a service to such an important character. Never just forget about them.
Tumblr media
5- The format can only be episodic with a deep plots, continuity and character development. - Random episodes with a mere monster of the day is an outdated format which doesn’t fit Big Hero 6′s modern and bright setting. In seasons 1 and 2, when the episodes were plot heavy with character development, the series shined brightest. It also helped move the story along, but with the final season, plot was removed, closure was abandoned or poorly written if any was given, and characters were disallowed from growing. A good example at how plot and character development could have made this series and its characters better was the relationship between Hiro and Megan. Would it have truly survived or would they have broken up?
Tumblr media
Would Richardson Mole have eventually lost interest in his obsession with besting and bullying Fred or would his obsession consume him compelling him to become a super villain? I do see quite a few similarities between Mole and Reverse Flash.
Tumblr media
Then you have Karmi who is in my opinion, the biggest wild card of the bunch. She was intentionally introduced as an arrogant, prickly and unlikable yet complex character who rivaled Hiro bitterly.
Tumblr media
Yet had a huge crush on his alter ego and as time went on, started to grow up and even form a friendship with Hiro. What would have happened further down the road with her? Would she have become a super hero herself? Or maybe even another love interest for Hiro kind of like how Black Cat is for Spider-Man?
Tumblr media
Is Obake really gone?
Tumblr media
What does the future hold Diana (Liv’s clone), Liv herself or the Sycorax the genetics company?
Tumblr media
Is Alistair Krei going to become an ally to Big Hero 6 or an antagonist? There is also the issue at how little we know about the other Big Hero 6 characters other than Fred, Hiro and Baymax. What are Honey Lemon, Wasabi and Go Go’s backstories? These questions matter and while not every mystery can be solved, leaving none of them solved is lazy writing.
Tumblr media
6- Executives, kindly stay out of the writing and any other part of the creative process. - I’m sorry, execs, but there is no nice way to say it. History itself proves that every time executives got involved in the creative process of any media, it got worse not better. Leave the writing to the creative team and the execs should only handle the legal stuff. Please. We understand that TV is a business, but writing itself is not. It is an art which you just don’t have a talent for. Let the creative people do their thing with the freedom necessary and you do your thing, deal? Deal.
Tumblr media
7- Focus on Hiro and Baymax. - The are the main characters so keep them at the heart of the series no matter what happens around them. That is all I can say.
And that sums up all the things that could have made Big Hero 6 the series better, but this is all just my opinion. What is yours?
PS: I am well aware that the Big Hero 6 series is being retconned because a new series called Baymax is in the works as well as the long awaited sequel to the first movie. I am looking forward to both with an open mind. PPS: I also am aware that some people liked this show the way it was including the art style and I am cool with that. An analysis for art that includes cartoons is never right or wrong. It is solely based on opinion. I may have thought this series could have been better, but there are people who make arguments that it could have been worse.

Penelope/Colin: “Give me one reason why I shouldn’t leave.”
YAY SOMETHING BESIDES BRETTSEY. (Not that I don’t love them.) I’ve never written Polin before! I’m excited to play! 🙌🏻 Thank you!
How about a modern AU for this one? Just cause.
******
It all started because of the pandemic.
He’d been perfectly happy traveling. It’s not like he had anything else to occupy his time. He wasn’t particularly talented and he didn’t have any hobbies or interests. Aside from eating but he doubted his mother would approve of him becoming one of those professional hot dog eaters and he didn’t care enough for the piddly portions of fine dining to become a food critic.
The only thing that truly distracts him from his lack of drive or ambition is traveling — learning about the world and it’s many cultures.
He has journal after journal full of his discoveries and experiences. Travel is really his only love.
Which is why he’d stopped and started his studies so many times. He took a year between high school and college to backpack through Europe. Then another year after freshman year to “study abroad”, not that he actually studied. Which is why his mother forced him to come back and finish his third year stateside. After that, he’d set off traveling again. Every year he found another excuse not to come home for any longer than a month or two, allowing him to put off his final year.
It’s not as if he’s getting a degree in anything useful. He’s an English major. And it’s not as if his career isn’t already decided for him. Upon graduation he’ll be given an office at Bridgerton Family Publishing. Doing what? Well, no one knows. Not even him.
So, what’s the rush?
He’d still be gone abroad right now if not for COVID forcing him to return home. God, he hates 2020. What a waste of a year. He came home too late for the spring 2020 term so he’s spent the last several months going absolutely crazy.
He’s a man of the world who is not being allowed to go out and see it. He can’t imagine anything more cruel.
Actually, no, he takes that back. There’s one thing:
Using the time he’s forced to stay in Mayfair to discover he’s completely and stupidly in love with his little sister’s best friend.
The friend who overheard him, last time he was home for any considerable length of time, declaring to his brothers that he would never be interested in her.
Because, of course, Colin Bridgerton is a colossal jackass who doesn’t know a good thing when it’s been staring him in the face his entire life.
There’s laughter coming from the direction of the foyer. Very distinctive laughing. One high and tinkling like a pretty little bell and the other deeper and hoarser. The alto to the other’s soprano. The alto in this case is his younger sister, Eloise, and the soprano is Penelope.
The woman he should have noticed long before now.
He gets up from where he’s lounging on the sofa, mournfully watching the Travel Channel, and takes his plate full of sandwiches with him.
He finds them giggling and applying lipstick in the mirror by the front door. They look dressed to go out. Eloise in her slick tailored pant suit and intricately adorned lace top, in monochromatic lavender. And Penelope in…
Holy shit, what is that?
Apparently, it’s the instrument of his imminent death if the erratic beating of his heart is any indication. He’s going to have some sort of attack and go into cardiac arrest right here in the foyer of his childhood home.
It’s a tight forest green dress that has an off the shoulder neckline. It hugs her curves so perfectly that he thinks someone must have sewn it onto her. It shows the perfect amount of skin along her neck and shoulders, giving just a tiny glimpse of cleavage.
And she’s had a haircut since she was here yesterday. Her ginger locks now rest against her cheeks in a wavy stylish bob. She was beautiful before. He was never blind to that as some other people around Pen have proven to be, but now...
She’s absolutely stunning.
So stunning that other people will surely see what he sees. And he’s grateful for that, truly. She deserves to be seen as she is — brilliant and beautiful — but that means he’s about to have competition while trying to win her over. And he is not grateful for that.
He’s been trying to be more forward with her when they’re alone but that doesn’t happen often and he’s not sure Penelope takes him very seriously. (No one does.) She seems to always be in disbelief when he flirts with her.
“Where are you two off to?” He asks, leaning against the wall opposite the mirror.
“Double date,” Eloise says, fluffing her hair in the mirror. “Pen arranged it. She met someone extremely gorgeous at the library today.”
Penelope blushes and grins demurely. “It’s the magic of a fresh cut,” she says motioning to her new hair. “He was there with his friend and we were all scrambling for resources for our bibliographies together and he asked if I wanted to get dinner and I asked if Eloise could come. No big deal.”
“It doesn’t look as if it’s not a big deal,” Colin observes, his gaze sweeping over Penelope from head to toe.
“His father owns that new super exclusive restaurant Kate’s been begging Anthony to take her too. You know, La Table Gourmande?” Eloise explains.
“The one that told Anthony the next available reservation was in two months? That restaurant?” Colin asks, trying not to scowl.
Really, there was no need for this guy to show off. He seems a bit full of himself.
“That’s the one,” Penelope replies with a nod. “He says he can get us the Chef’s table tonight. I’ve never done anything like that before. It sounds exciting. Might be the closest I ever get to authentic French cuisine. For a while anyway.”
Okay, so now he feels like a heel for wanting to keep her from going out. He knows he’s lucky his family is so well off. It allows him to travel. Penelope’s family, while not destitute, has spent most of their surplus funds putting three daughters, soon to be a fourth, through school. In fact, if not for a distant rich aunt who died they wouldn’t even have been able to afford that.
Any money Penelope used to travel would have to be her own, and he isn’t sure how much of that she has.
“Pen,” Eloise calls, interrupting Colin’s thoughts. “Have you seen my clutch? Did I bring it down?”
“I don’t see it anywhere,” Penelope says with a shake of her head. “Did you leave it on your dresser?”
Eloise groans in irritation, turning toward the main staircase of their massive house. “I guess I did. I’ll be right back.”
Finally, they’re alone. Colin clears his throat and sets the plate of sandwiches he’d been snacking on down on the hall table. He crosses the space until he’s standing mere inches away from her.
“Don’t go out tonight. I can take you somewhere else. Somewhere better,” Colin suggests.
“Better?” Penelope asks skeptically.
He nods. “I have a friend who opened a restaurant here that I met while I was in Nice. It’s smaller than that La Table Gourmand monstrosity and not quite considered fine dining but it’s real. It’s better. It’ll be closer to actually being in France than anything in that obnoxious place.”
“I don’t see why I can’t go with Marcus tonight and then you some other time,” she tells him, lifting one perfect brow and pursing her lips.
“This guy sounds like a prick,” Colin says with a scoff. “Bragging about his father’s connections on the first date? That’s not a good sign, Pen. Trust me, I know these things. I’m a guy.”
“Maybe,” she says with a shrug, a small knowing grin on her lips. “But I think I should decide that for myself. Don’t you?”
That grin…
She knows exactly what he’s trying to do.
She’s being difficult on purpose.
“Give me one reason why I shouldn’t leave,” she challenges him, continuing to grin smugly.
Well, if that’s the game she wants to play then so be it.
“Why waste a night figuring out what I already know when you could just let me take you out instead for what, we both know, would be a better time?” Colin asks, caressing the length of Penelope’s arm with a light tender touch.
She sucks in a breath at the contact, but doesn’t show any weakness in her expression. “Yes, but going out with Marcus would be a date that might actually lead to something. What would be the purpose of ditching a real date for you instead?”
“Oh, you want it to lead to something?” He asks, a smirk growing on his face as he backs her up toward the wall.
“Y—yes,” she stammers, her grin slipping as nerves shine in her eyes.
Her back hits the wall and he brings one hand to her cheek, cupping her face and trailing his thumb along her cheekbone.
He leans down, nearly closing the distance between them but stops just short of kissing her. “Come out with me, Pen, and you can choose where it leads. I’ll give you whatever future I have, even if I have no idea what it is. You set the terms, you call the shots.”
Her eyes widen and her cheeks flush but she instinctively leans into his hand. Call him a cocky bastard, but that’s the moment he knows he’s won. The moment he knows she’ll choose him.
“I set the terms?” She asks, biting her bottom lip while she stares at his.
He nods, waiting for the moment she leans up and kisses him.
“Well, then you know what I think?” She asks, rhetorically while she rests a hand on his chest.
“Tell me,” he pleads.
She smiles wickedly and pushes him away by one step. “I think you could do with some healthy competition.”
She sidesteps him and saunters off to the front door, leaving him gaping at her like a fool.
Like a besotted, astonished, completely smitten fool.
Eloise reappears, patting Colin’s shoulder as she follows after Penelope. “Tell mom we’ll be back late.”
They leave, the door shuts, and all he can think is…
Well played, Penelope Featherington.
But the Bridgertons are famously competitive and this game is only just beginning. He’ll win her over yet.
Wait and see.

The Mo Village arc and establishing the MC
MDZS is a sprawling book with many characters, but it seems that it was clearly important to MXTX to establish her MC’s characterisation very strongly from the start. Although the novel in its entirety leans toward providing a strong characterisation for WWX, I thought it’d be fun to look back at how it is conveyed to the readers in the first few chapters before the inciting incident at Dafan Mountain
(N.B. I’m using a composite translation made of different translations so the wording/format might be slightly different than the version you are using)
Framing
The prologue starts with a conversation between unnamed characters in an inn, discussing the news of WWX’s death. While it was a clever way to already introduce an important theme of the novel (the effects of public opinion and how easy it is to make someone into a irredeemable villain) and get the exposition out of the way, it also frames WWX as a character: as readers, we are introduced first to perceptions of him, a characterisation-from-hearsay we’ll be able to compare to his characterisation in the novel. WWX is a “scourge” whose death is celebrated, who “defected” and bit the hand that fed him, a “deranged” killer who took thousands of lives. But before he went on the crooked path, he was a promising youth--although others seem to think he was corrupted from the start.
“But it can’t all be blamed on the path he cultivated. Ultimately, it was still because this Wei Wuxian’s moral character was too flawed, angering the Heavens and man alike! By the heavenly law, everyone answers for their deeds in the end, good and evil……”
The rumours also suggest that if WWX comes back to the world of the living he will enact his revenge upon them all, and his unimaginable powers would allow him to rain fury upon both Heaven and Earth. We get told: this guys is an incredibly powerful villain, reviled and feared by many.
But the Yiling Laozu had enough power to overturn the Heavens and smother the Earth, move mountains and drain seas—at least, that was the way the rumors went. If he wanted to resist the summoning of his soul, it wouldn’t exactly be outside of his abilities. If in coming days his spirit were restored, if he forcibly possessed a body and were thus reborn, then not only the cultivation world, but all of humanity would inevitably meet with an even greater frenzy of vengeance and curses, sinking into a chaotic age of foul winds and bloody rains.
Establishing WWX and how he reacts when he’s thrown into an unpleasant situation
When WWX is brought back by MXY, we already have something to contrast him against thanks to the hearsay and rumours, and from the get-go we get a sense that WWX is not this fearsome figure that people made him out to be.
I’ll never get over the fact that our first introduction to WWX’s is the equivalent of the “the audacity of this bitch”.
Hazily, he thought: that’s quite a lot of courage you must have to kick this Laozu.
Our MC and POV character is thrown into a situation, and from his reactions we can rapidly tell that he is someone who is observant, resourceful, good at deductive reasoning and thereby apt at solving mysteries. This is something that is reinforced at many, many points in the first few chapters and helps us buy in into what happens later in the novel when they uncover many other mysteries. WWX is a guy who figures shit out.
When WWX figures out he was summoned as a “an unforgivably evil malicious spirit“, we  get his take on his public perception.
Wei Wuxian reeled at the implications. How had he been classified as “an irredeemly evil, malicious spirit”?
Yes, his reputation was rather poor and his final moments, horrifying tragic—but he had neither haunted nor had he seeked revenge on the living since becoming a spirit. He would dare to swear upon the Heavens and the Earth that you would never find a more peaceful and well-behaved lonely soul of a wild ghost!
At the same time, readers get a sense that even when he’s dealt a bad hand, WWX does not wait in despair for his luck to turn. Even though WWX describes his situation as “hopeless” and keeps “repeating over and over How could this be! in his heart “, he immediately goes into problem-solving mode, trying to figure out the situation and the wishes MXY forgot to share. This also happens  later.
There was not a single thing to help him find some joy in being reborn! He might as well sit and meditate for a time, and adjust to the new body.
That same passage gives us a sense that WWX is not rushing into situations without taking the time to take it in, make up his mind and prepare as much as he can: the fact that we see him do meditation twice during that day (before he goes to the East Hall and after he checks on the Lan juniors) also contributes to that idea.
The chapters convey as well that WWX is sympathetic to MXY’s situation and does not resent him even though he forced WWX to enact revenge in his stead. As readers, we thus receive the following message: WWX is not prone to being resentful, to hold grudges.
He had originally wanted to wash his face and pay a few respects to the owner of this body, but there was no water in the shack—neither for drinking nor for washing.
WWX is also, for a lack of a better word, sassy. It’s clear that he has a flair for the dramatics and lots of attitude. Look at that dramatic entrance.... he just.... yeets the bowl he was holding....
He pondered for a moment. Then, rising to his feet, he kicked the door open.
The two servants, in the midst of making eyes at each other, screamed in horror as the double doors of the shack suddenly burst open. Wei Wuxian threw aside his bowl and chopsticks and walked outside without anyone’s leave [...]
We are also introduced to the fact that WWX does not seem to take himself seriously and loves to shock people.
When it came to wild displays of misbehavior, Wei Wuxian was a master. In the past when he ran wild, he still had to mind appearances lest others accuse him of having not been raised right. But now that he was a lunatic anyways, what face did he need! He could go straight to making a scene, acting however it pleased him.
While WWX is clearly not the one-dimensional evil monster depicted in rumours, we do see that he can be cunning: he lies easily if he feels it motivated, he is very good at talking people into a corner, apt at making them do incriminating things by leading them on, which he does by humiliating the Mo family for their mistreatment of MXY in front of a crowd. But in a way, that is also a quality of his: he is not just silver-tongued; he’s good at assessing a situation and people’s characters, able to figure out what will set them off.
We further get proof that he is not a blood-thirsty monster who disregards others when he tries to figure out if he can satisfy MXY’s spirit without having to wipe out the Mo family (although it is clearly the obvious solution) and when he is shown to care for the well-being of others. This is illustrated by the way he double-checks (through ruse) that the zhaoyin flags are properly set up and will be used safely by the Lan juniors.
During the conversation, Wei Wuxian had already finished making a rapid examination of the Yin Summoning Flag in his hand. It had been painted in the correct manner, and there were no missing sigils either. There was not a single error or omission, so they should worked as intended. That being said, the person who had painted the flag lacked experience, and the painted sigils could only attract the evil spirits and walking corpses within at most five li. That should however prove to be enough. (chapter 2)
[...]
Wei Wuxian’s first thought was that something had gone wrong with the flag arraw the youth had set up. His inventions needed to be used with extreme caution, or else risk disaster. This was also why he had gone to check earlier if there were anything wrong with the array. (Chapter 3)
As our POV character, WWX comes across as endearing through little details: it’s in the way he calls LSZ a “good little seedling (好苗子)” and calls the Lan juniors a group of “小朋友“ in his inner monologue, or when he defends the Lan juniors from Mo-furen’s accusations. Or the way he likes Xiao Pingguo because it looks at him with contempt:
A donkey was tied to the handle, chewing on it. When it saw Wei Wuxian run over rashly, it seemed like it was surprised, and eyed him sideways as if it were a real person. Wei Wuxian made eye contact with him for one second and was immediately touched by the minuscule amount of contempt in its eyes.
Establishing how WWX acts in high-pressure situations
Things escalate quite quickly into accusations of murder and death and resentful corpses. This first sequence is thus our introduction to how WWX acts under pressure and in high-risk situations (which will continue to happen to our MC until the end of the novel).
WWX is shown to be cool under pressure and quick to think on his feet, constantly re-assessing the situation and the risks. He is also seen as expecting people to arrive to conclusions without him needing to explain them out loud, like when he takes out the zhaoyin flag that MZY stole from his corpse, letting the Lan juniors understand on their own what happened. When he needs to explain, he will not do it in a straight-forward manner, giving small hints first (this preludes many of WWX and LWJ interaction when they understand each other’s thought process with only one sentence being said, and preludes how WWX will continue to act with the Juniors later on, making them think through the situations instead of feeding them the answers).
We also get the proof that WWX does not privilege self-preservation over the fate of others.
If he wanted to avoid having the situation get out of hand, Wei Wuxian should retreat. If they people who came did not know him, then all would be well—but if they happened to be someone who had dealt with him or fought against him in the past, it would be hard to guess what would happen next.
But the curse meant he could not leave Mo Village yet. As well, the spirit that had been summoned had taken two lives in quick succession, meaning it was extremely vicious. If Wei Wuxian left now, once the reinforcement arrived, the streets of Mo Village might already be packed with corpses missing their left arm, of which some would be blood relations of the GusuLanShi.
After a short deliberation, Wei Wuxian thought, fight a quick battle to force a swift resolution (速战速决). (Chapter 3)
[...]
Wei Wuxian was watching the battle attentively. His tongue was slightly curled, suppressing a sharp whistle inside of his lips, preparing it to be let out. The whistle would be able to evoke even more hostility in the cruel corpses, which might turn the tables. Then, however, it would be difficult to ensure that nobody knew that it was his doing.
In the blink of an eye, the hand moved like lightning, ruthlessly and precisely breaking Madame Mo’s neck. Watching as the Mo family grew closer to defeat, Wei Wuxian prepared to blow the whistle that he suppressed under his tongue. At the same time, the echoes of two strums on a stringed instrument came from far away. (chapter 4)
As well, we are told something about WWX when he only leaves once LWJ arrives: certainly because he’s afraid that LWJ might recognize him but mostly because (as it will become clear later on) he trusts that LWJ will be able to handle the situation in his stead. In order words, although WWX is willing to risk himself to help others, he is not careless with his life and safety (for instance he makes sure to destroy the proof of the Offering ritual before fleeing to make sure no one can figure out the fact that he is back from the dead).
WWX will not hesitate to fool people or pretend in order to help his goals. In this case, he is trying to help and fight without appearing like a powerful cultivator who can do modao, balancing self-preservation with the incentive to protect the people present. This is why he pushes LJY in front of LSZ at one point in the battle, instead of blocking it himself, while pretending to just be a lunatic doing lunatic things.
Inside of the Lan clan’s uniform jacket, there were compact stitchings of incantations using thin threads of the same color, included for protection. However, against strong ones like this, it could only be used once before it became invalid. During the emergency, he could only kick Lan Jingyi and use his body to protect Lan Sizhui’s neck.
This sequence also allows the reader to know more about modao and WWX’s skills, and how he can control corpses, as well as how WWX perceives his own abilities.
TLDR:
The Mo Village arc, in conjunction with the prologue, competently sets up a lot of the moving pieces for the novel. It also leans heavily toward establishing a strong sense of characterisation for our MC and POV character, which is neat!
NB: I think it’s also very telling that the next chapter after the Mo Mansion arc begins with us learning that WWX has been, in the past few days since his retreat, lorded over by a capricious donkey. WWX is clearly not someone who takes himself very seriously (often mocking himself):
The donkey ran over there and nothing could make it leave. Wei Wuxian hopped down and slapped its honoured buttocks. “You’re definitely destined for wealth, even harder to please than I am.” The donkey spat at him.

So that TikTok person has a few things incorrect FYI. Like the Tommy Lee stuff? Do some more research please. And, yes, what he did was wrong but it's not like he beat on Pam all the time and I don't know why people act like it. It was that one unfortunate incident that he did serve jail time for. Plus, Pam got back together with him twice after divorcing him the first time. So how "abusive" could he really have been? I don't really see what that has to do with Sebastian playing him either.
hey, friend.
i want to tell you that i'm happy for you. genuinely. i am genuinely happy that your life has so far been safe and free of abuse. i'm happy that you have been able to enjoy the privilege of being so far removed from abuse that you've never witnessed, been involved in, or been aware of an abuse situation. you, like everyone, deserve to live in a safe, comfortable environment free of abuse, and i'm glad that you do.
unfortunately, your lack of experience as well as a failure to think critically has left you frighteningly uninformed and naive. your ask is thoughtless, uninformed, and frankly, extremely immature.
i'm going to break this down a bit.
right off the bat, you asked me to do more research on the topics discussed in the tiktok i shared. a careful reader of my original post would have noticed that i mentioned researching the claims, and i even dismissed some of them on the grounds that i couldn't confirm them through my research. i assure you that i take accusations of bigotry and the like very, very seriously, and i did my homework. however, per your request, i did further research on the subject of tommy lee.
this article is a quick read and gives an overview of tommy lee and pamela anderson's relationship. while they seem to have had happy times, and as anderson said they shared "true love," it is also clear that lee was an abuser. his toxicity and alcoholism, which may have fueled the abuse, eventually brought their marriage to an end. according to anderson, lee is "narcissistic."
you also said that "what he did was wrong but it's not like he beat on pam all the time." i want to be clear: the acceptable amount of beating within any relationship is none. zero. there is never, ever a scenario in which violence against a partner is acceptable. even "one unfortunate incident," as you put it, is abusive, disgusting, and unacceptable. further, the judge who sentenced lee to six months in jail for spousal abuse, said that he saw a disturbing "pattern of conduct in which otherwise resolvable matters are handled with violence."
"plus, pam got back with him twice... so how "abusive" could he really have been?" is a terrifying, massively uniformed, and tasteless statement. a victim returning to their abuser is not, by an means, an indication that the abuse wasn't real or wasn't serious. this article from psychology today talks about why victims of domestic violence often return to their abusers.
what does all this have to do with sebastian stan? good question. as i talked about in depth in this post, i have no issue with anyone portraying abusers. my primary problem with "tommy & pam" is the romanticization of a toxic, abusive relationship. additionally, i feel that it is in poor taste to make a show about a sex tape scandal that occurred not even twenty-five years ago, involving still living people, without their consent. anderson definitely did not give the project her blessing, and as far as i'm aware neither did lee.
this ask was a response to this post, in which i discussed sebastian stan and his documented bad behavior.
if you or anyone you know is in an unsafe situation, don't hesitate to reach out for help. abuse is never okay and you deserve better. here are some domestic violence resources.

Hi, how are you?
I have been wanting to introduce myself to this world and have tried couple of times but i also have been afraid since i dont know exactly where and how to begin and your blog literally appeared to me like magic.
Im a mexican girl, 24 and i really want to know how to do it and mostly gain some mentorship from this people. Also, i wish to know how to be careful and what to be careful of since there's an obvious risk as well.
Started looking for many times but i would back down cuz i didn't know or wanted to expose myself to any danger.
Couple of times i have been approached by man that seem/are wealthy and they ask me out or to meet with me to talk about a possible agreement, and i know i can manage to do it thats why i feel a bit enthusiastic to start in this world.
Any mentoring tips from you?
Thank you so much 🌼
Hi, I am great... April has been a little weird...
“I have been wanting to introduce myself to this world and have tried couple of times but i also have been afraid since i dont know exactly where and how to begin and your blog literally appeared to me like magic.”
It sounds like you are not quite sure which of the world you want to be in.
Do you know? Everyone here is not in the same life nor do we have the same goals. You have to decide which it is for you... Your reasons, your goals, and what level of men you want to do deal witth, in what capacity and what your current resources, your level of perseverance for what you want to achieve are etc
Im a mexican girl, 24 and i really want to know how to do it and mostly gain some mentorship from this people. Also, i wish to know how to be careful and what to be careful of since there's an obvious risk as well.
Where are you? And what exactly is stopping you other than the fear of danger?
Cause there are many non dangerous ways of meeting affluent men... Maybe a little expensive but certainly less dangerous...
Where are you located... Who are your friends? who do you hang out with? where do you spend your time?
Just as an example: Who are you swiping right to on dating apps? what are their credentials and their stance on providing for a woman? You can simply start by dating ceo’s of small companies, managing directors who make millions etc that you meet on dating apps... Dating those will help increase your network...
Assuming you lacked network.
What are you doing that you need mentorship in?
Then align yourself with the type of men who can offer mentorship and enjoy it (be careful of those who just offer it in exchange for sex...  They are not capable of mentoring you majority of the time)
What type and caliber of men are you meeting... Not everyone who is an “SD” has the capability to offer useful mentorship.
For me... I am so extremely careful that this week alone i got blocked out of annoyance by a man worth at least 100 million and another worth at least 10 million because i am blatant about keeping every conversation classy and non-sexual. And I know these men are capable of wooing me the way i like... But i do not play about my boundaries... If a man can’t respect it... that means a lot of things to me... GRANTED they will be back... Men love women who confound them... But i digress.
(How do i know? They are easily googled, I met them at a mini luxury party on one of my trips last month... )
What am trying to say is... Create boundaries, listen to your intuition and do not... I REPEAT... do not deal with anyone who does not respect your boundaries. until you are in a full relationship and certain you can make compromise and that person does for you too... But boundaries are still boundaries.
Even if the man promises you the world... Do not be quick to give your information... Make use of some resources some girls share here to check the men out...
Practice extreme safety.... There is nothing like being too safe.
If you can, only date men who have more to lose than you; should anything happen and men who are respectful of your space and boundaries...
If anyone has more please leave it in the comment for her
Also always keep yourself and dress sophisticated ... Men grade women unfortuately...
Couple of times i have been approached by man that seem/are wealthy and they ask me out or to meet with me to talk about a possible agreement, and i know i can manage to do it thats why i feel a bit enthusiastic to start in this world.
Well, appearing and seeming to be wealthy doesn’t mean they are so be careful and Vet well.
Secondly, since the seemingly wealthy men are approaching you, it means you are around areas where you could meet men.
So why not go on some fine dining date(sss).. chat and get to know each other... subtly wring information about them and their capability from them... Guage and learn how they react to your boundariees or to something they want and that you sublty decline...
Try to go on afternoon walking dates... just absent-mindedly walk into a flower shop and start looking around  point at one and look at him.
If not a flower shop, find a jewerly or clothing or shoe boutique (something expensive) and enter abse-mindedly talking about how you’ve actually been meaning to do this... Guage their ability and seriousness to have an arrangment by how they react...
Their reaction to your boundaries and these little feeminine quirks should helpfully be a guide
NOTE: To be able to pull off wanting the designer item... You dont have to have brand name from had to toe... But you have to look like the kind of woman that actually step in there (if not all the time) but at least  from time to time...
Again there are many ways of dressing sophisticated that makes it hard for a man to gauge who you are wearing but assume it is top of the line
Hope this helps
