I'm a bibliophile, reading mainly science fiction and fantasy, with a past addiction to manga. These days I'm more likely to have my nose in a fanfiction piece than published fiction. I started out here in the Dragon Age fandom, then expanded into the MCU, though the list of fandoms I read in is rather more extensive than that. Partly because crossovers made me do it, and also because if I like an author's work well enough I'll happily read the stuff they've done for other fandoms.I've been mostly on a writing hiatus for the last few years, but am trying to get back to regular writing.

The Quinton Reviews video was actually the first time I ever heard of The Beverly Hillbillies, but Quinton's dad talks about it as if everyone should know it, like the Simpsons. My theory is that maybe it is because I didn't grow up in an english-speaking country, and I'm curious!

Just trying to catch that warm summer night feeling. It’s floating raccoons for me. apparently.
#Oh wow#That is giving me flashbacks to a story textbook I had back in grade school#(This would have been some time back in the early 1970s so the textbook was mostly likely printed some time in the 1960s)#It was iirc a relatively thick hardcover book of short stories with cute little illustrations#One of the stories iirc was something about animals taking a train in winter or something like that?#Anyway#At least one of the illustrations was set during late winter evening/early winter night#So everything was the very rich blue of that lighting (except maybe some yellow lights in the background)#Including the cluster of animals#Those blue raccoons remind me of it viscerally

“I know it ill hurt, just do what you need to.”
#I also like people who are pragmatic about things like#Being in hospital#Having to be medicated#Being in a wheelchair to leave hospital#Expected outcomes of serious injury#Recovery periods and physical rehab#Like please FO with the (mostly toxic masculinity based) characters#Who believe they can just walk off an injury (Great way to make things worse)#That they don't need proper care or meds (Incoming infection! Also PAIN)#Ignore things like physical rehab in favour of overdoing everything (both a great way to make things worse and also PAIN again)#Give me the character who knows that to be their best they need to take care of themselves properly#That the best way to heal is to allow yourself the time and grace to heal#Not to ignore every helpful hand and warning sign

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.
