2, 3, 7, 9, 10 for Nikoletta?
Oooh thank you!
OC Asks: Song Lyrics Edition
2 and 7 I answered for Nikoletta here! They're not perfect picks but I was having trouble picking songs for her
3. a song lyric to describe their family life
I walk alone through sleepless nights I'm just another number, somethin' just ain't right Searchin' for somethin' in this human zoo Kaleidoscope of faces, maybe, maybe it might be you I feel like I lost my way Things get darker every day that I stay You're out on the streets, livin' on your own You're out on the streets, so far from home When you're out on the streets you can't understand what's goin' on You're out on the streets, your heart's your only home
(Out on the Streets by Twisted Sister)
9. a song lyric to make them cry
The worst is over now and we can breathe again I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight I wanna hold you high and steal your pain 'Cause I'm broken when I'm open And I don't feel like I am strong enough 'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome And I don't feel right when you're gone away
(Broken by Seether feat. Amy Lee)
10. a song lyric to make them happy
Any place is better Starting from zero, got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something Me, myself, I got nothing to prove You got a fast car I got a plan to get us out of here I've been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money Won't have to drive too far Just across the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs Finally, see what it means to be living
(Fast Car by Tracy Chapman)

Hey Sensei, do you ever listen to Evanescence songs, expecially in Fallen Album and "Broken" by Amy Lee and Seether band ? For me its Leon and Ashley songs coded (Amy Lee's voice sound is similar to Ashleh). I always imagine Leon and Ashley are doing music band things in garage or any secret hangout places. Dang it, the lyrics. Hit the feeling. If you never listen to it, please try. Recommended.(っ.❛ ᴗ ❛.)っ
I never got into Evanescence, because at the time that they were big, I was listening to Nightwish and Lacuna Coil and being really smug about it... for... some reason. (14-year-old me sucked, if you guys haven't put that together yet.)
I haven't found a good Leon&Ashley song that I like, yet. Like, I have a few songs that have a sort-of vibe for them, but I can't seem to find a definitive anthem for them. It's pissing me off actually LMAO

Bring me to life is one of the most popular songs by Evanescence. The song was released on 7th April 2003. Song Meaning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YxaaGgTQYM Bring me to Life is about Amy Lee's life being in an abusive relationship and eventually ending it to live a better life. It is about how Josh Hartzler who is her current husband played a role in making her life better. It took about 5 years for them to date after knowing each other. They got married in 2007 and before that Amy was in a relationship with Shaun Morgan (Seether frontman) from 2003-2005. Some people thought that the song was about Shaun but it was later declared that the song was about Josh. Amy told Josh years later that the song was about him. Perhaps she felt weird to tell him that before as they were not a couple at that point of time. Amy met Josh in a restaurant through a mutual friend where Josh asked her if she was happy. The question caused Amy to contemplate on certain aspects of her life. She was pretending to be ok and was hanging on to her relationship which caused her a lot of pain. This song was actually written about my now-husband. I’d been in a really bad, abusive relationship, which had been very difficult for a long time. I thought that I was doing a pretty good job of pretending I was OK, but Josh [Hartzler, Amy’s husband], this guy that I didn’t know really well but I liked a lot, we went into a restaurant while my bandmembers were parking the car. When we sat down, he looked at me right in the eyes, and said, ‘Are you happy?’ It just caught me really off guard. I felt very exposed, but it felt good at the same time – like he could see me. ‘How can you see into my eyes like open doors? Amy Lee Bring me to life is basically about finding something or someone who ignites an emotion within one and causes one to push forward in life. So, Josh saved Amy from an abusive relationship and she finally was happy with him after they got married.

Candle light ep4
They texted all night. About their awful school, about the world, about Seether and Amy Lee and that cheesy yet heartbreaking song the sing together. About how she thought that "when two broken people find eachother, they make a mosaic" and how beautiful he thought this way of thinkin was. About how Michelle and all her other fake friends were shit and about how he kicked David Ackermann's ass for calling him an homophobic slur in the boy's locker room. About how with every astute observation about social issues and philosofical dilemmas he made, she felt like he read her mind and put voice into her thoughts. About how he was convinced they were meant to meet because no one in the world seemed to understand what he was talking about but her. About his abusive father and her negligent family who would almost never even talk to her. About her struggles with an eating disorder-
-Hey. Have you eaten yet?-
-Bro you know I don't eat. I feed off of water and sunlight and live in a terracotta pot-
-Come on stop being dumb and let's go out to eat-
Klara hesitated.
-What?-
-I'm hungry bitch let's get pizza-
-Seth that's the scariest fucking shit you could ever say to me!!-
-Alright. If I get you drunk will you eat?-
-What the fuck?-
-If I get you drunk will you be out of it enough to eat???-
-IDK PROBABLY-
-GREAT LET'S GET BEERS FIRST THEN-
-SETH-
-LISTEN UR GONNA THROW IT UP AFTER ANYWAY LET'S GOOO-
-ALRIGHT ALRIGHT IM GETTING DRESSED JFC-
The weird guy was outside the weird girl's house. Waiting, staring at the sidewalk, or at his shoes, like he always did.
Klara opened her door, dressed, sure, but not to go out. Not how a girl her age would dress to go out at least.
"Hey…uh…I really don't wanna go…" Klara stuttered her way through the phrase.
Seth looked up, noticing she had come out. "Well hello there." He smiled, and the whole situation seemed surreal, because she had never seen him smile before that very moment.
Klara hesitated.
Seth got closer, hands in the pocket of his jacket. The second one he owned.
"Alright, you don't wanna go out, no problem. We're ordering from your house". And with that said, he walked past her, entering the place like he owned it.
Klara followed quickly. He was already making the call for a local fast food place. When he hung up, he turned to her.
"Do you have Netflix? Or anything?"
"N-no, but…I have a lot of…DvDs…?"
"Huh. I hope you got some horror movies then" he stated, while he began looking through the various disks organized in a box in front of the tv.
"As you can se…I have a bit of a collection so…just pick one".
"Where are your parents by the way?" He asked, picking up a DVD and holding it up against the light to check for any scratches, before pulling the hem of his shirt, the third one, to be exact, and wiping away some dust on the shiny surface of the object, exposing his somewhat toned abs and a few deep, thick scars on them as well.
"They'll be out of town for a while…" Klara answered, tugging on her own shirt, nervously, like a fidgety toddler would.
They watched the movie, well mostly Seth did, after practically force-feeding Klara at least half of a pizza, making her chug two beers, letting her collapse on top of him on the couch and leaving to get home in the middle of the night.

How I met and fell in love with Amy Lynn Hartsler
first thank you for using my pin .
I'm a huge fan of Evanescence .
I've been  Infatuated with Amy since I first heard her sing back in 2003 when they released Fallen .
At this point I hadn't yet seen what she looked like just heard her voice and thought the music sounded like a mixture of Opera Gothic metal rock  .
It was very appealing to me .
When I seen the first video was after the release of " anywhere but home " DVD.
I became mesmerized with Amy's entire package .
The voice, her look ,her presence on stage and the bands sound .
The second cd  " the open door "was released, not counting A.B.H dvd because it's just a Fallen DVD , I loved the first single "call me when you are sober ".
But when I seen the video for "good enough " I instantly  feel in love with Amy.
She was so Beautiful in that video and the power in her voice and lyrics hit me hard .
I was going through a time in my life that had me feeling inferior, not Good Enough.
I thought ,"wow this chik  knows where I'm coming from ".
I followed everything about her and the band watched every interview  read every article ..
And to this date " the open door " is my favorite Evanescence Album.
Couldn't figure out the attraction she had for Sean Morgan of Seether  poor guy looked like he hadn't bathed in 6 months.
I hated him after I found out how he belittled her and made her feel like an ornament.
I was determined to meet her and tell her thank you and you are Good Enough.
I FINALLY met her in 2016 during what I would call a re-introduction Tour of smaller venues .
It was at the Filmore in Silver Springs MD.
They were  Literally right there in front of us !
The opening Band was "Veridia " not so well known but out of my opening band experiences  they became the best I had seen .
They were soooo good! Check them out .
Of course Evanescence didn't fail to tear the place down.
They earned the honor of "signing the wall" for being one of the few bands to sell out at that venue .
One thing about them ,Amy in particular,  is,
they have a very loyal fan base that has stuck with them during thier stretches between album releases and some that follow them everywhere .
Why?
because I think people can see that Amy is not a "brand" like other celebrities  she is down to Earth and one of the very Few that are what I call "real" she is.some one who can connect to to the fans in a way like a friend and through the lyrics someone who knows them  .
She is not intimidating and unapproachable.
After the concert we headed for the car and my friend Bill said. "Look over there at those people standing in line , wonder what for "?
I Seen the tour buses   nearby so I said maybe we can get a photo Of her getting on to the bus , better yet maybe we can get an autograph !
So we just got in line hoping we weren't suppose to have a ticket or something to be there in the first place .
Short time later we seen a guy come out the door and count the people in line and went back in  suddenly the guy came back out and with him was Amy Lee ! He shouted, " NO SELFIES AND ONLY ONE PICTURE  OF THE ARTIST PER PERSON !
I WAS FLOORED ! SHE ACTUALLY IS COMING UP THE ROW TOWARDS  US !
When she reached us the first thing I noticed was her eyes ,the color and friendliness in them showed !
She was just beautiful! She smiled and said," hey guys" to my friend and I .
I greeted her and commended her on thier preformance  and the wise choice of opening band and congratulated her on the sell out award showed her my Evanescence tat which she liked and got my picture of her and we left .
Went to see them twice more after that.
During the synthesis  tour  and bought sound check VIP tickets during the Evenescence with  Lindsey Stirling tour  got an autographed tour program by the band  and 8th row seats and VIP service.
I  have made a three part video I  named " Eva-lution " detailing Amy's  Career and private life from fallen to synthesis out of stills , video bits and Gifs.
I Am part of several fan pages and still to this day post pins pictures and videos and create videos of my own of Amy and the band.
Wrote not a poem but more like a letter to Amy and used 42 of her song titles to write it.
Took an old antique French style Parlor chair and created an Evanescence chair complete with the bands Symbol as well as thier name Incorporated in its design .
So as you can see I'm a 56 year old fan and will be till the day I die .
I will share anything that I'm able to anyone that ask .
If you look at Facebook pages dedicated to Amy and the band you might see some of my post .
Thank you for allowing me to post this hope its not to long !
Sincerely
Todd Tyler Snead

Songs That Make Your Heart Beat Tag
I was tagged by @sheimagineddragons. Thank you so much, Kit! 😊 I can’t live without music, so I’m excited about this tag game. I read a quote somewhere that said ‘music is what feelings sound like’ and I love it so much that I might get it tattooed one day because I feel that in my soul. Music is art and it’s a gift 😍
Rules: put 5 songs that just make you feel out of this world with a short explanation: it could be your comfort songs, your favorite ones, anything that makes you feel things! And then tag your friends!
1. Not Yet / Love Run by The Amazing Devil.
All songs by this band make my heart beat and race and they make me laugh and cry and feel all the emotions! Joey Batey and Madeleine Hyland really appeared out of nowhere one day and claimed my heart. But this song became my absolute favorite, it has longing and tenderness but also a bit of ferocity and it’s comforting and it makes me feel courageous and I don’t even know how many more things. It also has some of my favorite lyrics, like ‘sing me awake with a song about pirates and I will try to harmonize, and sip the sunlight from your eyes’... how beautiful is that? Or ‘run to show love’s worth running to’ or ‘run for all the things that drum’. I just... I’m so happy that I watched the Witcher and it got me to know Joey and this amazing band, because every single song shakes me to my core in the best way possible, and I deeply relate to the lyrics in a way I had never before, they resonate with me so much 💜
2. So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold.
Avenged Sevenfold had been my favorite band for years until TAD dethroned it. For the most part, however, Sevenfold’s songs are catchy and have such energy that I love listening to them, but they’re not usually as deep as TAD’s songs (which is why I now like TAD more) but not So Far Away. For those of you that don’t know, they wrote this song for their friend and drummer of the band, Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan when he died. It’s a sad and melancholic song, but it’s so beautiful. I would say a few lyrics I like, but I’d end up copying the whole song here. It was also my best friend’s favorite song (I think it changed now, but for the longest time we shared it as our favorite), and there’s one more special thing about it. The song reminds me of my grandparents, which passed recently (my grandpa died around 10 years ago, but my grandma died last year) and I’m more fond of it for that reason. Sometimes I pick up my guitar and sing this song at the top of my lungs as a personal dedication to them. I’m that sappy, but it makes me feel better and miss them just a little less.
3. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
Moving on to something less emotional and more happy, a famous song by one of my favorite bands as well as the other two. Fun fact, I only properly listened to this song recently even if I enjoyed others by Queen. It’s interesting, because I had heard it a long time ago (who hasn’t heard it?) and I didn’t like it. But then, years later, I listened to it again and fell in love. There’s a reason why Queen is so popular, and this song is one of them. It’s such a complex and beautifully composed song! It has lots of changes, really well executed, and it tells such a unique story. And I can’t explain why it gets to me, but it makes me emotional and it makes me want to sing it at the top of my lungs. It also has little details like the ‘sending shivers down my spine’ part where you hear windchimes that kind of feel like shivers and it’s so cool? Love it.
4. Sound of Silence by Disturbed.
I have heard the original and it’s fine. I have heard other Disturbed songs and even it’s my preferred music genre (heavy metal) they’re fine. But this song is so powerful! It has such raw emotion with the way it’s sung, with that unique broken voice and the singer pours his heart out on it and it gives me goosebumps. The song has such a distinct mood and tone and it makes my imagination soar (in fact it has inspired one of my novels) and it’s another song that I love singing along to, at the top of my lungs, because it really reaches my heart.
5. Never Too Late by Three Days Grace
This was also my favorite song and my favorite band for the longest time and they both still hold a special place in my heart. This song helped me during tough times, it gave me hope and strength anad reminded me that you can always fight and push through, that it’s never too late to follow your dreams even if the lyrics don’t exactly say that, but it just inspired me. Adam Gontier’s voice is also one of my favorites (in fact guess who I named my first ever OC after?) and it’s tragic but gorgeous and it makes me feel so much.
Honorable mentions (I had to): Broken by Seether ft. Amy Lee, Show Must Go On by Queen, Invincible by Muse, Mama Said by Metallica, Gone Away by Noctura, In My Arms by Plumb, Dream On by Journey, Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, Waste My Time by Saint Asonia, Set Me Free by Avenged Sevenfold, Destiny by Genderdyn ft Kigare.
I don’t know who’s done this or who to tag, so feel free to do it if you want to!

Evanescence: “Guitarists need to be honest. Use your voice. We don’t need fake – we need humanity and real people”
Jen Majura and Troy McLawhorn wax lyrical on the high-octane gear, influences and themes behind the band's upcoming fifth album, The Bitter Truth
The Bitter Truth, the fifth full-length from Evanescence set for release in March 2021, will be their first album of new material in a decade. The American arena group led by singer/keyboardist Amy Lee had already released three singles, though the record’s completion was stalled by the virus pandemic that dominated headlines for much of the year.
The first sessions took place at the beginning of 2020 with rock super producer Nick Raskulinecz [Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains] in his Nashville studio, spawning the tracks we’ve heard so far – Wasted On You, The Game Is Over and Use My Voice. Then, of course, came Covid, putting an end to safe travel and forcing virtually all plans to change.
For the members in America, it was incredibly problematic. For German guitarist Jen Majura, who joined in 2015, it was an absolute nightmare. Nevertheless, the group kept chiseling away and fleshing out their parts for album number five.
When Guitar World tracks down Majura and co-guitarist Troy McLawhorn towards the end of 2020, things are still very much in the process of being finalized...
Looking back now, that session in Nashville must feel like a very long time ago!
Majura: “Definitely! What hit me so hard was that we’d recorded that first chunk of songs and waved goodbye at the airport, thinking we’d be back in a couple of weeks. And then suddenly this pandemic hit, airports were all shut!
“I had never felt more apart from my friends in the States than since this all started. It’s so unnatural for me not to be there! I’m very old-school – I like my tube amp and 4x12 cabinet. I like to sit in the studio with the humans I’m working with and creating in the moment.
“Being away from Amy and the boys while working on material has felt so unnatural to me, but that’s the we have to do it and we have to make the best out of it. The time we spent with Nick in Nashville was the happiest ever.
“It felt amazing to see these songs coming to life – you have this idea but when you are all in a room creating, things change and become better, you end up trying out different ways. It’s such a vibrant and beautiful way of working. But I get it, there’s this thing called corona, so you know…”
This will be your first album working together on new material. How do you go about splitting guitar parts?
McLawhorn: “Whenever we’re jamming, if someone comes up with up something cool, they play it. There’s no set thing. So far I’ve probably played the majority of the lead guitar – if Jen comes up with something she is always welcome to play whatever it is. It’s a good working relationship. The first batch of songs, the first three that came out, were done in one session before the coronavirus hit. We were all together for those ones.
“But then Jen flew home back to Germany and we were supposed to tour in Europe, but it all got cancelled. Everything we’ve done since then has been without Jen with us, we’ve been kinda flying sessions back and forth. I probably played a lot of the guitar on the album, but she’s been coming up with cool ideas and putting her stamp on it too.”
The Game Is Over definitely feels like the heavier side of Evanescence…
McLawhorn: “There’s a lot of good stuff like that on this one, stuff that people will be surprised by maybe. There’s a fair amount of that aggressive type of music, but it’s a good mixture. So far everyone’s heard the lighter side of the album, like Use My Voice and Wasted On You… but then there’s The Game Is Over. It was a lot of fun to play and there’s more heavy stuff on there too!”
Majura: “That bridge is so heavy, I love it! It’s going back to the real rock roots and having lots of fun. When you have a low-tuned guitar you have to be a bit careful – you can’t just smash your strings but they will warp a bit.
“I remember forcing myself, especially during the bridge, to play gentle even though it had this badass attitude. It took me a couple of takes… the first ones were completely out of tune [laughs]!”
Jen, it must have been a rollercoaster five years for you. How did you end up getting the gig?
Majura: “What happened was that I was playing bass in another band, not really being happy as I’m a guitar player. We happened to play two festivals, one in Germany and one in the Czech Republic. And it turns out Testament were playing the same days as us.
“I’m a huge Alex Skolnick fan, so we ended up talking and keeping in touch. A couple of days later, I got this very mysterious email from him saying, ‘Jen! Some friends of mine are going to contact you and I can’t reveal too much but I think it’s something you should say yes to!’ I was wondering what the hell he was talking about…
“And then a day later, I got this email from Evanescence’s management asking if I would be interested in… and I didn’t even finish reading the email. I just immediately replied ‘Yes!’ and sent it. That was a total no-brainer.
“So this was around July 2015 and the next evening I was on the phone with Amy talking. She invited me to come visit her in New York and hang out. I thought, ‘Okay… cool!’ and three days later I was on a plane flying to fuckin’ New York wondering if this was really happening. It was insane.”
Did you bring your guitar?
Majura: “I didn’t! I asked her if I needed to bring one and she said, ‘Nah, I know you can play, I’ve seen plenty of videos – let’s just hang out!’ And that’s exactly what we did for the next three days. Hanging out, long walks and talks, going out for dinner or to a concert. Becoming friends and getting to know each other on a more human relationship kind of base.
“I realize now that’s the biggest deal when you have to replace a member. A band is a family. I’d like to quote Rob Zombie on that, because he said it in the movie Hired Gun!
“Finding a good player is the easy part – the world is full of virtuosos. You also need someone who can commit to touring, being on the road and that whole lifestyle. The third and last thing, also the toughest, is that you need people you can stand hanging out with 24/7.
“Concerts are only 90 minutes – what about all the other hours in the day? You need to all fit together. Within those first few days with Amy, I realized we both had a strong work ethic and know exactly what we want, which is beautiful.
“She’s a very strong character. I appreciate her musicality and personality too, she quickly became one of my best friends because we laughed about the same things and then figured out we both love Sex and the City [laugh]! I am so grateful and thankful to have experienced everything I have with her and the boys.”
Troy, you’ve been a member of Seether and filled in for Sevendust on some tours, but you’ve been an on/off member of Evanescence for over a decade now…
McLawhorn: “Yeah, to be honest, I never really left Evanescence. We have big breaks between albums. When I did my first tour with the band, Amy told me she was taking a long break, probably around four or five years. I just went out to find something to do in the meantime and ended up playing in Seether for a few years…
“When it was time for me to leave, it coincided with Amy being ready to do another album. And it was a huge coincidence. I ended up in New York and went to Amy’s house. I was having trouble in Seether and wasn’t happy there, and she said she’d love me to come work on the new album. That’s how it all went down.
“There seems to be some pretty long breaks in between albums with this band but I think that’s part of Amy’s creative process. She likes to take her time when she’s writing the lyrics. The final product always turns out really nice that way, so why mess with it?”
What can you tell us about the gear responsible for the guitar sounds on this album?
Majura: “I signed up with Synergy Amps in November last year. When I joined, I think Steve Vai was the only big name working with them, but I figured if it’s Steve Vai it’s gotta be fucking great. So I went over to check their amp out and I was very skeptical. It looks like a tube amp but with all these holes and parts missing!
“But I plugged in, hit one chord and realized it was actually phenomenal. They’ve sent all the different modules to me, like the Diezel, and the perfect solution for me was the Friedman HBE. It has the perfect rock and roll sound for my solos but it also has the mighty depth of high-gain stuff too – which are all frequencies you need for Evanescence.
“I was originally expecting I’d go with the Diezel one, but the Friedman felt more right for me. I’m very open-minded when it comes to technology. You have two modules, each with two channels, so you get a four-channel amp made out of your favorites.
“For example, I could combine a Vox AC30 Brian May sound with a Diezel VH4. It’s phenomenal what they’ve managed to open up for us musicians in terms of sound options. It’s been my tour rig and studio rig ever since.”
McLawhorn: “I used a combination of different things on this album. On The Game Is Over, it was basically my live setup which is an Orange Rockerverb 100, with an analog pedalboard.
“A big part of the tone I get from the amp comes down to a 10-band EQ I use to boost the mids on the lead channel. That’s about it – I don’t really use overdrive pedals or anything like that and probably use less gain than most modern guitarists. I almost use EQ to find a modern sound, instead of more gain.
“I also have a Fractal Axe-Fx III, which I’ve used here and there on the album, especially for clean parts – it’s really good for that. I’ve done some overdubs with the II as well, stuff that has a lot of effects or sounds really wet – Axe-Fx is great for that, too. I also have a 1969 Marshall Superbass 100 which we split with a Bogner Ecstasy or Uberschall, and used for the rhythm tracks on a couple of songs.”
And how about for guitars?
Majura: “I’ve been with Ibanez for many years now and I’m very happy. They deliver the most perfect instruments. You pick up an instrument and either like it or not. Some of them seem to instantly merge with your system – you become one – and that is true of most Ibanez guitars, at least for me.
“Of course I’ve played Les Pauls and other things, but they’re really not my style. I have so many Ibanez guitars now. I think the AZ series was such a smart move – the family is even bigger and better now… Look at players like Tim Henson, who is just amazing. He makes me feel so old. He’ll be nailing it and I’m at home just playing along to AC/DC or something!
“For pedals, I stick with the Line 6 Helix pedalboard because I remember at my first rehearsal in 2015, they would tell me certain parts would need a chorus or flanger or this or that. At the end of the rehearsal I had a battery of pedals in front of me and realized I couldn’t do it. I’ve never been a pedal dancer. I went to Line 6 asking for a solution and they were just about to come out with the Helix… it was perfect.”
McLawhorn: “I was using a baritone PRS SE. I changed the pickups out, but that’s it – I love the guitar and how it plays. I tried a few different sets, most by Seymour Duncan. One of my seven-strings has a Seymour that my tech put in on the road and I don’t know which one it is! He just found it in my guitar coffin and asked if we should throw it in. It stayed for the rest of the tour – it was probably a JB, who knows!
“But the one on the record is the Distortion (SH-6). I really like how they sound. At first, they were a little hot for what I like – I tend to prefer somewhere in between modern metal and classic rock. It felt like really high gain, way too much, especially when switching from my other guitars. But he really lowered the pickup down and that fixed everything, making everything super-tight and adding some nice mids.”
Use My Voice has a really powerful message behind it…
Majura: “Yes! Another thing that connects me and Amy very strongly is that we both went through moments in our careers where males would tell us, ‘You’re just a girl – what do you know?’ It’s time for strong women – in rock or wherever – to stand up and say being good at a craft has nothing to do with gender. It’s been happening for way too long.
“That feeling of our voices being suppressed needs to change, because every voice matters. We’re all the same. It does not matter if you are male or female or transgender… humans are humans. I think we should spend more time understanding why we’re the same. Use My Voice is an important message for women to stand up and be heard.”
Where do you think your influences differ as guitar players?
Majura: “The first guitar hero I had at around 10 or 11 was Steve Vai. He was so revolutionary in terms of what he’s done for the guitar world, both sound-wise and crafts-wise. Electric guitar wouldn’t be what it is today without Steve Vai.
“I respect him so much for how he feels and talks through his instrument. He’s influenced my thinking about a lot of things. He’s an amazing person, not just an amazing musician.
“Then I got into Nuno Bettencourt, who plays for the sake of the song instead of showing off. Which is what I tried to do on my first solo album, Inzenity, everyone expected a shred album and it wasn’t. I played for the song. If it didn’t require a guitar solo then fine, I’d just leave it. I didn’t need to prove to the world how good I was.
“Nuno also has the percussive style of playing, which brings this tone that I really like. And finally, Angus Young. I’ve been playing in an AC/DC tribute band for four years and I love his playing.”
McLawhorn: “A lot of them for me were the classic players while I was growing up. So Ace Frehley for sure… KISS were like Slipknot for us who grew up in the '70s [laughs]! Then there’s Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Tony Iommi as well, he was a massive influence on me as a kid.
“Eddie Van Halen was a huge influence on me, too – it was very sad that we lost him so early and so young. When Van Halen came out, I started taking guitar very seriously. The bluesy side of his playing always appealed to me but he also had all that technical prowess, too. A very inspiring guitar player for so many people.”
What advice can you offer anyone out there hoping to become a good session player?
McLawhorn: “You need to know how to communicate with people. I’ve done sessions with some Nashville guys that have this shorthand way of writing music. Reading music and knowing theory is always important… I wish I knew more myself.
“It puts you at ease walking into a session knowing you read and play anything back. I can’t really do that – I just really really listen and learn things by memory. I can read some music but that’s going back to trumpet at high school [laughs]. So I rely on communication always!”
Majura: “I think guitar players need to be honest. Use your voice. Be real. Be pure. We don’t need fake, we need humanity and real people. What I love about people like Mattias IA Eklundh is he’s just himself. He’s pure and innovative in a really interesting way.
“I’ve gotten to know guys like him, Guthrie Govan, Richie Kotzen and Jeff Waters – they’re all awesome and very honest players. I think one should never think one has seen it all and learned it all.
“We need to keep in mind we’re all on a journey in search of becoming better. In terms of advice, I always have to say being open to different styles is so important. There’s something to learn every day. You should never stop trying to improve to make the world a better place. You should never stop learning… that’s what makes you human.”

Seether - Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum
Tumblr media
Tracklist:
Dead and Done
Bruised and Bloodied
Wasteland
Dangerous
Liar
Can’t Go Wrong
Buried In The Sand
Let It Go
Failure
Beg
Drift Away
Pride Before The Fall
Written In Stone
The South African legends have returned to us again, Seether are one of my all time favourite bands, they’ve been kicking around for 21 years and have put out 8 full length studio albums in that time. I’ve caught the guys play a live set a few times over the years and they have never disappointed me on record or on stage. Their song “Broken”, in particular their duet with Evanescence’s Amy Lee is one of the all time greatest ballads of all time, just throwing that out there, pretty sure Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater introduced me to them too.
First single dropped was “Dangerous” to give us a taste of what we can expect, which up to the chorus is really clean and steady, then we get a slap of that post-grunge goodness but a tad stripped back, reading on the release Morgan says this one would be different to the rest of the album, but not dramatically, they thought it would make a good single and I will give that to them it is, but it's not the side of Seether I’m after. The follow up to this was “Bruised and Bloodied” which is much more what I was wanting to hear, Morgan’s voice creates some of the best and most distinctive tones and chorus lines in the scene, that opening bassline and riff sound like a grunge version of Marilyn Manson’s “Fight Song”. The final single from the album was “Beg” which hits that sinister and agonising feel, that chorus of an anguished voice screaming “BEGGGGG MOTHERFUCKER” is how I’ll always remember Seether from back in the day. For me, the album opener “Dead And Gone” really shows who Seether are to me, a huge soft buildup to a drop dead heavy chorus, but it's just Seether you’ve got to check it out to know what I mean. In terms of balance between their heavier material and their lighter stuff, it's a pretty even balance to be honest you have the likes of “Buried In The Sand” which is a beautiful ballad song with a full band kick for a chorus line, “Drift Away” follows much the same writing style but has it's emotionally heavy moment towards the end of the track, “Written In Stone” is a true ballad much stripped back in terms of distortion. On the other end of the spectrum we have “Can’t Go Wrong” which is chunky and in your face,  “Failure” which if it wasn’t for it's negative and sinister undertone you would have said was a sweet track but instead it's just plain awesome, “Pride Before The Fall” which flows along solidly with a nice bit of oomph.
Always a great time to hear from Seether, one form of reliability and consistency in releasing good albums, adds a tally to the good shit from this year to fight against how colossally bad it's been doesn't it? Go out, listen to this album, if you’ve never heard of them before listen to all of their albums, get your post grunge on, and everyone else can just deal with it.

Mark and x-reader: You’re mine, Valentine
Warnings: teasing, Fluff, smut, My version of Mark from Assassination Nation: Mark and X-reader. You & Mark have already been through  a lot of shit together at this point. He is still constantly checking up on you and reading your texts when you aren’t watching to make sure you aren’t at the least sending naked pix to a professor, but on this day he will be on his best behavior so no angst.  You always try to reassure his fragile ego. If this story continued on into the party you & Mark would probably get into a fight over something but that’s not a Valentine’s theme I wanted to explore here.
Tumblr media
As you walk in the door from your last class of the day the song, Broken-Seether & Amy Lee from Evanescence(click to listen) is playing throughout the new frat house. Something crunches under your foot and you look down to see a pink crumbed candy heart on the dark cherry wood floor. But you also see another one a few inches more that says, BE TRUE. Another is a few feet from that, that says, MY GIRL. You start to giggle as you pick up and read candies that say sweet things like HUG ME, KISS ME, REAL LOVE, YOU’RE MINE and some racier ones you have no idea where he got that say, FUCK ME?, BLOW ME?, ANAL?, …They seemed to get naughtier as you get to the dining room.
Your giggles turned into your cheeks burning red by the time you saw the table set up with surf and turf, wine, a small wrapped box and a few flowers in the center. You look around to find Mark and spot him with a goofy grin on his face across the room holding a teddy bear.
“Happy Valentine’s Day Babe,” He mutters in a low seductive voice. “I hope you like the spread enough that you’ll spread for me after?”
“We’ll see,” Your cheeks still burning red. “Cute bear. Your girlfriend leave it on your pillow or something?”
He chuckles, “Yeah, but it doesn’t work. Maybe a blowup doll would have been more useful when she isn’t here with me.”
“You also have two perfectly cable hands,” She laughs, “If you needed them. I wouldn’t involve the poor bear in that though.”
“Never would involve the cute little bear in such a thing, Babe.” He walks over to you and hugs you close. “Your schedule is to full. Tonight, you take a few hours off for us. I insist.” He pulls out a chair for you to sit.
You sit down and he pushes the chair back into the table. “looks great Mark. I think a catered meal here was the way to go tonight. I might have one more surprise for you.”
Mark sits in a chair right beside you. “If it involves you taking off your cloths, I’m game for anything Babe.”
“Yeah, I saw your suggestions on the way in here,” you smirk.
You both start to eat. After he takes a drink, not a sip, of wine he says, “So, do you like the special candy hearts I ordered? I think they are fucking awesome.”
You say, “They aren’t anything I would have given out in grade school.”
He stares at you a moment, “I hope not. What are you wearing under those skinny jeans and sweater?” He quickly shoves a piece of steak in his mouth.
You eat a small bite of lobster and shrug. You swallow, “What’s in the little black box?”
“Take your shirt off and I’ll give it to you,” Mark said.
“Really?” You asked.
“Sure, Why not?” He said
“I think it would be better to show you more than what is just under my top if you can wait until after dinner,” You wink at him.
He jumps up bumping his knees on the table, “Dinner’s over.” He grabs the small black box with the white ribbon off the table. “You want it, babe? Come get it.” He runs towards the stairs.
You jump up and run after him. “Give me that box.”
He laughs and bolts up the stairs. You are right behind him laughing.
“Are you sure what is in the box is even something you want?” He teases you as he holds it up standing beside the bed.
You stand a few steps away from him. “Yes, I’m sure. Are you sure you want to give it to me?”
He closes the distances to where he can reach out and grab you pulling you into him grinning. “You should never question me wanting to give it to you babe.”
You look up at him biting your lip. “So, the gift?”
He grins holding the box above him still. “So, the cloths?”
“You’re going to have to let go of me to see what I am wearing underneath it all,” You said.
He lets go of you and sits on the edge of the bed with the gift in his lap. “Go on then babe. Take it off and the gift is yours.”
You unbutton, unzip and slide your jeans to the floor. From the front the white cotton boyshort panties don’t look like anything special. You unbutton your sweater as you look at Mark biting your lower lip. His mouth is slightly agape as he watches you. The cami underneath has a built-in bra. The top is partially lace from right under your breast down to your belly button. Across the chest is written MARK’S PROPERTY. You turn around reveal the panties say OWNED.
You turn to face him with your hand out, “Now, what do you got for me?”
“Oh, I’ve got something for you, you love,” His innuendo thick in his tone. “But first come over here and sit on my lap so I can give you what’s in this tiny box.”
You bounce over to him sitting down on his lap, “So you approve of the outfit?”
“Its going to look great on the floor in a few minutes,” Mark grins as he hands you the box. “Now you can open the box.”
“your so crass,” You kiss his temple and open the box. “Oh hell, are you even aloud to give this to me?”
Mark chuckles, “Not at all but since its my family crest and my family paid to rebuild this place, I want to change that rule.”  He puts his fraternity pin on your top. “Now your outfit is ready for the party.”
He puts his hands on your face to pull you down to kiss you as he lowers you both on the bed. You straddle him and he groans at the way you grind into his readiness. “What party, Mark? I’m not going to start something that could be interrupted by a house full of frat boys and sorority girls at any moment. And I can’t exactly wear this in front of everyone.”
Mark sits up. One hand climbing into your hair finger outstretched. The other pulling up your cami in the back. His lips run over your neck up to your ear, “We have plenty of time. And you will wear this. Now come on babe, you got me in this excited state. You need to ride it.”
His demands in that airy deep voice have goosebumps running up your back.  “I got you.”
You get up to take off your cami and panties. He watches you. You walk back over to him and grab his shirt   pulling him up. “I can’t exactly go for that ride with you being fully clothed and me here completely naked.”
It is comical how quickly he takes off his cloths and pulls you back on to the bed over him. You even giggle as you fall on to his chest. Then you lean down to kiss his lips. His hands run down your body as his emerald eyes lock on to yours. You know how much concentration it takes for him to keep both eyes on yours for any amount of time.
You sit up to position yourself. Pulling him in slowly, you role your hips. Your eyes closed as you keep pace with him thrusting into your body with every bit of himself. Your hands braced against his chest, head back moaning out his name mostly because you know how much he likes to hear you vocalize. His hands move to your hips pushing you ride harder.
He repositions you slightly wanting to create that perfect friction against your clit to drive you to orgasm with him. You stop faking as your breathing quickens feeling the pleasure over come you. Smaller sounds slip from your lips. Sweat covers your both as he tips you over the edge.
“That’s it, babe. Fuck, I love how you sound when you really get there,” Mark says through gritted teeth. You collapse over him once he shoots off his seed slowly coming to a still inside you.
He rubs your back, “come on up here babe.”
You lift yourself off him and move up to kiss his lips softly before laying on his arm. He wraps himself around you. “Happy Valentine’s day babe.” He moves your hair out of the way and kisses your cheek before laying his head back falling asleep while keeping a hold around you. You fall asleep snuggled up beside him happily.
