A part of you had hoped he would never find out, a sliver of hope, but, of course, it was Ransom we were talking about. The man had ears and eyes everywhere. The man could buy anything he wanted. “How do you know?” You said a small voice.

“Oh, cut the shit. You know damn well how I know. Stay the fuck away from him. If I hear one more time about how you’re gonna divorce, I'm getting out the legal or illegal way. I dont give a flying shit. ”

You gulped. Even over the phone he had so much power over you. To think there was a time you didn’t mind it. You let him spoil you with gifts, trips and love and in exchange you gave him your full attention. Now, he had taken advantage of that and you were now in a spiral that you could never leave.

Ransom would forever have a part of your life and you had to live with it.

“And don’t think, I’m fucking playing, so don’t try to cross me, Bunny else…” You didn’t want him to finish that sentence. And dread filled you as he used the nickname that used to be filled with love, but now with distaste “You know what happened the last time you did.”

You knew it very well. It was a few months after you got married. Even before you were married, Ransom kept on telling you how your friends were a bad influence on you, how they were changing you and controlling you, but you didn't believe him one bit. You loved your girlfriend. You had known them for years, so if they really were as toxic as Ransom proclaimed, you would’ve noticed way before.

Every time he would say something bad about your friend, you would defend and things would either turn into a fight or just the silent treatment, but you loved him, undeniably so, and would always come back to him in the end. Crawling to him, saying how you were sorry about the fight.

After the wedding, that’s when Ransom finally cracked. You had been planning for weeks to go see your girlfriend and spend the day shopping and going to the art museum. You even told Ransom days in advance, but he brushed it off, but when the day finally came, he exploded.

“You can’t go see them. You know how much I fucking hate them.”

You placed your hand on your hips. “And why not, Hugh?” You would call him that when you were angry at him because you knew how much he didn’t like that name. “I’m not your fucking prisoner. You can’t keep me in this mansion.”

“Don’t fucking try me.” He fumed, stepping closer to you, his warm breath touching your face. He placed one hand around your neck and made you look up to him. “You’re my fucking wife. You’ll do what I fucking say.”

You glared at him, your hands on his heaving chest, trying to push him away. “You can’t do this to me Ransom. I’m not an object”

He squeezed your jaw more, his nails biting in your skin. “I’ll tie you up to fucking bed for a week if you even try to get out of that door. You swore your life to life.” Your mouth opened, a tremor going through your body. You knew his treat was real. He did it once before.

You took a long breath. “You’re fucking sick, Hugh.”

He smiled at you. “Through sickness or health right, bunny?” He pushed you away and presented you with the palm of his hand. “Your phone, wife.” You glared at him and he did it back. “Your. Phone.” He said harsher, his voice hiding revealing all the anger he was feeling. His blue eyes that once held so much love and lightness, were now dark, full of no-good promises.

Your hand shakily retrieved your phone from the back pocket of your jeans and you gave it to him. “Good girl. Now here is what we are gonna do. You’re gonna go upstairs, remove all your clothes and wait for me on all four on the bed.”

You opened your mouth to retort back, but he placed his hand on your mouth, making it even impossible to move your head. “Do as you’re told.” And he pushed you away, his eyes darting towards you and the stairs that lead upstairs. As rage coursed inside of your vein, you did as he said, your eyes blinded with tears.

The next day, you found your phone completely broken.

After that day, everything went down. With Ransom not letting you get out of the house, he wouldn’t even let you go to work, and with no phone to your disposition, you felt like you were gonna go insane. You had been so used to seeing different people everyday, interacting with them, that only seeing the same person all day, everyday for a week was making you feel anormal.

But what you hadn’t expected was what Ransom would have done during that week.

Ransom was finally away to deal with some business he couldn’t deal with at home. So you were finally alone. You had planned to go out and finally see your friends, Sam and Marna, but before you could even touch the door knob, a loud knock reasoned in the empty house.

With a smile, you opened the door and you were about to let out a cry of joy of seeing who it was. It was Marna with an empty expression on her face.

“Marnie? What’s going on?” You tried to touch her shoulder, to hug her because she was probably feeling down about something, but she slapped your hand away.

“You fucking bitch.” She gravely said. You took a step back. “How fucking dare you.”

“Wha—“

She scoffed. “Oh, don’t fucking play play innocent now. You know what you did.” You shook your head frantically. Confusion all over you. Your head trying to find what could make her hate you. Was it because you didn’t go shopping with her and Sam? Was it because you didn’t respond to an important text? But those were reasons you could easily explain if she would let you talk.

“Marnie, I can explain—“ She cut you off once again and that frustrated you.

“Explain what? How you broke my relationship with your lies?” What? “How you said to Jake that I cheated on him, when it is completely false!” She screamed that last part, her hands moving frantically.

Your hands were shaking. You didn’t do that. Why would she accuse you of doing so? What was going on?

“I couldn’t—“ You tried to explain fast so she wouldn’t cut you off, but she still did.

“I don’t want to hear it.” She took a step back from you. “I don’t want to speak, hear or see you ever again.” Tears were streaming down both of your faces. She couldn’t leave you. She wouldn’t. She would let you try to explain, right?

As she took steps back, you took a step closer, your arms frantically calling to her. Your mouth was wide open, but no sound would escape. “I wish to never see you again.” With a final glance over you, she took off in her car and your knee gave up on you.

You don’t know how long you’ve been crying outside. Your knees were hurting from the stone of the pavement, but you didn’t care, your heart hurts more.

“Bunny?” A voice called to you. “Bunny, what’s going on?” A pair of arms lifted you up the ground and you cried into their neck. “She left.” Was all you said. “She left.”

“Who left, bunny?”

“She left. I’m alone.”

Ransom tutted in your hair. His nose is nuzzling the top of your head. “You’re not alone, Bunny. You have me.” He picked you up in his arms, your legs automatically wrapping themselves around his waist. “You’ll always have me.”

After that day, it’s when Ransom made you quit your job and make you focus solemnly on him. All of him. And you had doubts that it was him.

And one day he did confess to it all. When he confessed all you did was cry. Cry for the way your life turned out because of him.

You didn’t try to make new friends after that day. You had accepted the fact that you would be alone for the rest of your life.

“I gotta go, but remember: don’t try to cross me or I’ll make your life a living hell.” With that the call disconnected.

The moment the call ended, your mind was running wild. You can’t go meet Ari, what if he sees? What if he gets out? You can make Ari pay because of you.

Frantically, you scrolled down your contact again and called Ari once again. It rang two times before he picked up. “Miss? Are you at the cafe yet?” He asked you.

You shook your head, your hands shaking. “He called. I can’t. He called.”

Ari sighed and called your full name.

“I can’t Ari. He’s going to get out. He knows about the divorce. He’s never going to leave me alone.” As you rambled, Ari said your name repeatedly.

“Sweetheart.” That stopped you and made your heart beat fast. “Listen to me.” You sat down on a chair. “He can’t get out. He’s in a prison where everyone hates him.”

“He can still get out and hurt me, hurt you.” You added.

“Let him. Let him come, I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise you that. I can handle a prissy rich kid's anger.”

Your breath was short. “I’m scared, Ari.”

“I know you are, sweetheart. Just know you’re not alone. I’m here with you at every step.”

You nodded. “Okay… I’m coming.”

“Good. I’ll see you very soon, sweetheart. Drive very carefully.”

“I will. Thank you.” And the call disconnected.

The little bell on the top of the door jiggled as you opened the door of the coffee shop. You’ve never been there before and the first thing that popped in your mind when you stepped in was: cozy.

Everything was made of solid dark wood, a few plants here and there and a bookshelf with a sign ‘Please take one’ in the far back.

You never would imagine the big giant that is Ari to be here, in this place. When he invited you for dinner, you thought it would have been in a restaurant or a more modern place, but this place, you loved it.

You rolled your eyes with a smile and nodded. “Okay, Mr. Levinson, but next time I’m paying.”

“Next time…” He hummed. “I like that.” You couldn’t help but bite your lips. He pulled himself straighter. “Now, stay put and I’ll be back very soon.” And he walked away, your eyes bulged out a little when you saw his ass and immediately looked away, biting your lips. Man had such a grabbable ass…

Instead, you looked at what was on the table, a cup of almost finished coffee, papers and… a book? Curious, you picked it up and read the cover. “The Count of Monte Cristo…” You mumbled. You had heard of this book, but never read it before.

He grunted. “What about you? We all have something we love. What’s your thing?” You took a hold of the eclair, and took a big bite when he asked you that question. You covered your mouth trying to answer, but that just made him laugh. And, just like that, his eyes got lighter.

“Painting.” His eyes widen.

“You paint?” He asked, taking his cup of coffee in his hands. It looked so small in his hands and you were wondering how you felt in his hands.

Re: the live action

I'm really interested in seeing what would later seasons do (I guess we should start by seeing how this one goes first but yk) but I have a hard time imagining how it could have a satisfying "end"?

Like obviously like you said it can't go on forever, or even like. to post time skip. But it wouldn't be anywhere near the end since we're not even there yet with the manga

I don't see how they could wrap it up in a neat way, aside of maybe like an open ending but even that would be hard to pull off

Are you talking about “end” like the actual end of the whole story? Or “end” like how they’ll end off after arlong park. Like how are they gonna show that final scene?

If its that first option, I dont know why it wouldn’t have a satisfying end? I mean i cant speak for how closely its gonna be following the original plot just yet, but surely if it did carry on until the very end, it would follow the way the actual show ends. And assuming the original show ends in a satisfying way, then alls well that ends well i suppose.

Idk though, i hope they dont do the whole series. I think just a little bite sized chunk will be sufficient. They dont need to do everything and i really really really do NOT want to see whatever the hell gear 4 looks like in a live action setting, so truly i hope they don’t.

And if its the second option, they should end it like how the 4kidz dub ended it. By killing everyone one off via gigantic falling ship from the sky and cut away immediately to the peppy ending song.

((This originally comes as my response to someone saying that ppl don’t like The Sun and The Star because it’s a middle school book and we were expecting the series to grow along with us.))

Valid point I keep finding BUT I recently read the PJO series again in preparation for TSATS and those books still slap!! They’re so good even tho I’m reading them as an adult even though they're meant for kids. (Also I recently read ToA because of course I’m gonna keep reading Rick’s middle school books until the day I die or they stop coming out lol. And that series while more goofy at points I still really liked) I also read one of Mark Oshiro's other books in prep for this book because I was excited for The Sun and Star to be released and I just COULD NOT get through it 😭 the writing was just giving me the ick and the characters where all kind of samie like that sassy talking wit. Which was a bummer because I liked the premise of the book “Anger is a Gift”, which was about underfunded schools mainly facing ppl of color and immigrants which leads to the school-to-prison pipeline because of the defunct way America funds public schools that keeps the poor poor and the rich getting richer & it was ACAB & had a lot of queer representation & etc. So I thought I’d really like it but I just couldn’t get through it because of the writing and I noticed this same writing style showing up in TSATS. Just because it’s for kids doesn’t excuse it from being bad. Like early Pixar and Studio Ghibli is still so good to watch back again and my 50+ yrs old parents like it. Book examples would be Harry Potter (screw JK Rowling tho fr) & the The Little Prince

Not to bash on ppl who say this is the main reason ppl don’t like the book but it feels like a straw man argument to say that the books not growing with us is the main reason ppl didnt like it. All tho I’m sure ppl have argued this but that is definitely their fault because Rick is staying in middle-grade fiction forever like that’s his thing! Why would ppl expect different 🤣 You think he wants to write a sex scene?! LMAO

(Here’s my review, it’s unhinged and not great because I should be doing productive stuff but am distracted until I can at least write down some of my thoughts on my disappointing experience)

Here are some things I didn’t like about it from a piece of art standpoint:

The pacing was bad

This book was filled with the first thing they teach you about writing which is: SHOW don’t TELL

It made me not ship Solangelo surprisingly like how??! I used to love Solangelo but I think this mainly is because of the collective consciousness of the fandom and because we wanted Nico to find happiness with someone. But if you really look back on their moments canonically from the books Will is a background character (who honestly kind of gaslights Nico by invalidating that ppl treated him differently as a son of Hades and that he didn't feel welcome at camp) and they kind of have a quick meet cute in the last book of The Last Olympian. They get together without us seeing their developing relationship and we now know they’re dating in The Trials of Apollo where we see them briefly in the first book and then more so in the last book. Honestly, this canonically alone doesn’t give me enough information or examples to really know or care about their relationship in comparison to Percy and Annabeth who we get to see develop. So TSATS just kind of felt hollow to me because I’m supposed to believe they’d die for each other but I DONT KNOW THE POWER OF THEIR LOVE?? This could just be a first love fling type thing like I was never shown the depth of their romance just told constantly in the book how much they love each other so it just felt kind of empty and emotionally unsatisfying to me.

Solangelo's relationship has always been in the background and the fans are what really made it cause we love Nico and want him to be happy. So when Will and Nico are fighting in this book all I can think is that this is just their relationship period.

So the reason it made me not like Solangelo was because Tarturus was supposed to bring out the worst in them and strain their relationship but, like, I haven’t really seen much of their relationship so I don’t have a “control group” to base this off of. So Will just seemed rude when he was so mean about Nico’s underworld home and about Nico's darkness which I also didn’t understand wtf he was talking about because Nico has killed just as many monsters as other campers and what else was his darknes based off of. cause he’s emo/goth?? Cause he can raise the dead?? Like guys we’ve discussed this just because a character wears black doesn't automatically make them the bad guy. I honestly thought Will just thought that was hot and they’d have that normie x alt relationship dynamic (that meme of: My hot witch wife. Me doing whatever she wants) I thought THAT was Solangelo not Will constantly trying to bring this light side to him and trying to change him. I agree that Nico needs help w his trauma and PTSD and things like that but this felt like if someone tried to “cure” a goth person, like actually screw you

The flashbacks and forwards I thought were ok even if they took you out of the story a bit but this device is supposed to be used for an IMPORTANT event not just as a way to quickly give context to their relationship and when we got to the scene this was taking place in I was like that’s it?? He what? fell down and is suffering from sun withdrawals and this is the book's big moment to justify jarring flashback scenes?

Mark Oshiro is not a fantasy adventure or horror writer and it shows. Maybe it’s just me but their depiction of Tarturus and the nightmare and the journey were just not up to snuff with good horror and fantasy books I’ve read. (And if your gonna say something about how it’s for kids then I raise you the book series “Goosbumps”) So as a genre in itself, it was just disappointing. It was mainly a relationship guidebook book but I didn’t really like that or feel like it was done well, It felt lectury and also idk if that's the genre middle schoolers really like?? 😅

It had too many references which really dates a book, A lot of professional writers say not to use too much slang or modernreferences (unless you’re trying to make a book expressly about a time period) because it really dates a book and doesn’t make a story feel timeless for future generations if you use too many references (this doesn’t include political novels tho which are very much based in that time when the events happening) Anyways for future writers keep this in mind, you don't need to keep in touch with the youth through urban dictionary you can just write about the emotions of being young or whatever. If you’ve tried to read a comic book aimed at teens from the 50s like I have you’ll realise how funny that is.

(Also the carebear reference that I didn’t even understand and I watched carebear as a kid & Lil Nas video which if this was written for kids that music video feels a bit inappropriate for them 😂 it had a reference both too old and too young for middle schoolers AND how in the world would 1930s born, dropped out of elementary school, can’t use the internet or phones half blood, NICO DI ANGELO know these references???)

(This is my most out-of-pocket opinionated bullet point rant so if you don't agree that’s a-okay :D ) This could be a whole post in itself but although I know ppl joke about Nico as the Emo kid I would really like to get into how Nico is actually, or it would be cool, as having some goth subculture inclinations. And ppl probably think of Trad Goths with the whole makeup and teased hair look but it’s mainly a music-based subculture and/or it just has a different idealogy around the ideas of death and what is deemed beautiful while most ppl see it as ugly. (Like listen to “Gallows Dance” or the Bauhaus's “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” & “The Passion of Lovers”, to name songs off the top of my head) This bullet point is definitely MY OPINION and doesn’t contribute exactly to the book being bad but aren’t those songs the vibe of an underworld kid like Nico?? Embracing the darkness and dancing in graveyard vibes fr!! Anyways most alt subcultures and especially emo are seen as a phase in life that you grow out of and then become normal. This book just really gives the energy of being written by a normie who would be confused by the choices of alt ppl and just doesn’t get it because it’s not their personal interest, which isn’t exactly bad even tho I want more philosophy from Nico on the chillness and acceptance of death (all tho greek mythologies view on the afterlife sucks fr and THAT is a whole other post haha) So this isn’t exactly a problem BUT what gives me the ick is WILL NOT ACCEPTING THESE THINGS LIKE SIR STOP BASHING YOUR BOYFRIENDS LIFE!! Will asking Persephonee, “How do you love someone from the underworld” SHUT UP!! 😤

Will was useless and I know what they were trying to go for but if I had a girlfriend (oh I’m a lesbian btw just in case ppl think I’m going harder on this book more than the other books because I’m homophobic bruh I swear I’m not I’m only disappointed in the art itself, NOT the representation which I actually liked) and if I was super good at fighting and they weren’t, I’m sorry but I wouldn’t take them BECAUSE of my love for them. If they were going to be useless on a mission of such life-threatening danger and importance I WOULD NOT TAKE THEM OUT OF KINDNESS. Like skills in medicine and art and music are great and there’s of course nothing wrong w not being a badass fighter (lmao this is me and most readers) but then DONT GO TO SUPER HELL!!! Especially if you have something that makes you more pathetic than being a normal human in Tarturus, his suffering from no sunlight is out of pocket and just makes the story draggg and makes him seem boring and the story more boring. I know they were trying to go for a fish out of water storyline and roll reversal but I think it wasn’t done well enough and overall hurt the story

Also, I’ve heard ppl talk about how it would have been nice to have a book focus on their relationship while at Camp Half-Blood. Like maybe it takes place pre Jason's death and we can just see them living at camp. It’d be chill and we can actually see them as a couple & It would give the energy of readers wanting to go to camp half-blood again like how everyone wanted to go to Hogwarts. Cause we haven’t seen the camp as a fun home since the very early PJO books ;-; (this is just a fun idea I like and I think would have been more manageable for an author but this is FR my opinion on a fun book idea i’d like to read) ALSO this would have been so nostalgic for the older readers who have been here since middle school gobbling up this universe 😌

I know ppl get mad at ppl making fun of Will for being pathetic in tarturous. As saying he’s a child and no one can be happy and sunny and doing well 24/7 which is valid but that’s not really my argument. I like watching characters put in situations where we watch them bend against what we thought they were when put in a hard situation (the masochist in me lol jkjjk). But this I think didn’t work for me because as I’ve said before he’s mainly a background character at the end of one book thrown together with Nico and we as a fandom have mainly made him up. Also, Tarturus was just not as scary or adventure-filled as like any of the other missions from previous PJO books, It didn’t feel as trauma-inducing as everyone in the series tried to explain it as. (again show not tell from the book) Also, I would have liked to have seen Will cool at least once or one reason for me to like him with Nico but I saw him as pretty bland as a character

The writing style felt bad to me because of the show don’t tell part for example telling as “it made him sad and traumatized” when showing would be, you know, actually showing the scenes and this book just felt like 80% telling what they were feeling instead of letting the reader feel the emotions of the scene for themselves

I think that’s another thing I really didn’t like related to the Show Don't Tell. And another hallmark of bad writing was this book was really telling the audience how to feel instead of allowing the story to be powerful enough to do that for itself. This book follows a trend I’ve seen a lot in TV shows where everything kind of feels like detached irony from being on Twitter where you hear everyone’s opinions so the story is written as a wink and a nod like we know what we’re doing and we know what your thinking and how twitter will react to it. Like it’s hard to describe this trend I’ve mainly seen in TV shows and movies recently which always gives me the ick cause it doesn’t feel funny it feels like I’m in a response piece that is breaking the fourth wall and reminds me that I’m in reality watching or reading something instead of actually feeling like I’m in the story. It’s like pseudo-wittiness or something. Tell me if you guys feel this way about some modern tv shows or books, I can't be alone please 😭!!

The stupid toast scene at the end lol The book is like: Do you get it? Did you get it?? They’re opposites! And they attract!! We did the trope you guys!! Also, the stupid Darth Vader scene to start off the book 💀

This whole book made me cringe where I had to constantly get up walk around and lie on the floor before I could continue, only to constantly repeat the cycle 😅

Anyway, idk how to end this review/rant I just had such strong emotions I had to get out probably because I was so excited for this book to come out for like over a year and got back into PJO for a bit and read some of Mark Oshiro’s books and greek mythology and stuff, so I think it wasn’t just me reading any random bad book it disappointed me more that it was poor quality because I wanted to love it so much.

It did have some actually good parts, the troglodytes were cute … I can’t remember the other stuff but it was there I swear lol! If you enjoyed it I’m happy for you! Don’t let me ruin a book you like, you deserve to feel joy 😘💐

OK I FINALLY GOT TIME SO this is probably gonna be a series of asks if Tumblr decides to limit my characters (i dont feel comfy coming off anon in the tt community sorry)

First we gotta talk about the Cogs since all of the gag/reward stuff is gonna have to be based on them

.Exes and .Mgrs were a very welcome change. .Exes instantly give every battle some variety in requiring you to think to take them down instead of memorizing a chart of which combos wipe a group (fuck Zap Camp too btw), and .mgrs were a much needed shakeup, away from the 4 main bosses which got repetitive as hell, that allow just about all the gags and prestiges to shine in some way

Skelecogs and Virtuals in the same way as .exes force you to be on your toes thanks to the varied hp and debuff resistance, virtuals in particular being a good choice for the OCLO, sorry v2.0s but you're boring

Cogs do more damage in general, which emphasizes either taking them all out or stunning them, and Content Sync definitely helps with that. Even with how controversial it was at the start, it was a good choice

Cogs have proper scaling AND HAVE LEVELS HIGHER THAN 12 FINALLY TTR WAS SO BAD AT THIS AND THEY DONT EVEN LET YOU SEE THE NUMBERS WHY TTR MUST YOU BE LIKE THIS

Ok now onto the gags:

ORGANICS ARE SO BAD, PRESTIGES ARE SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING, FUCK GARDENING ALL MY HOMIES HATE GARDENING

Level 7s, while I miss Railroad my beloved, were really badly done and limited where the game could go

LURE COMBO BONUS SUCKS DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-

Ahem.

Toon-Up: As stated, Cogs deal much more damage, so TU has much more use, especially in .mgrs. The self heal was also something that shouldve been in the game forever ago, and not just relegated to a prestige. At least the Prestige makes you heal even more now. However, TU MISSING was a shit idea on TTO's part because it was the only way they could get Toons to go sad in the sound spammy lure left kill right meta if everything missed. Now you might be forced to take damage, so your cannon missing would be a death sentence. Thank god they removed that early on in 1.3. also the accuracy buff is AN INTENDED MECHANIC THANK GOD

Trap: Trap FINALLY HAS USE CASES OUTSIDE OF LIKE LAWFICES. First off, it's an .exe killer. The hard counter to them. Bye bye mr .exe. And then Clash gave it Dazed, which made Trap/Drop an intended strat too. But also it's just BIG NUMBER. The Prestige is EVEN BIGGER NUMBER. This means you can oneshot even really big Cogs with like a prestige trapdoor where TTR wouldve needed an organic (also bad) TNT

Lure: Yeah Lure Decay was bad but they learned in 1.3, and instead we have a much better system with the per-gag knockback, which lets you deal even more damage with each throw or squirt gag you use, where instead of a hypno doing the same 50% total base damage as a $10 bill, $10 bills do more damage than hypnos. I legit almost stopped carrying 10 bills in clash entirely and went with like 15 magnets instead UNTIL they changed it like that. Also, using a Group Lure with a Single Lure actually synergizes well, especially with Throw setups in like OCLO, since the damage values vary, you can lure and IOU (more on that later) both, with your main target getting a 50 bill, before nuking them with 4 throws, for at least 400 extra damage (460 with prestige!), ON TOP OF THE ADDED COMBO DAMAGE SINCE LURE KNOCKBACK COUNTS FOR IT NOW BY THE WAY. In comparison to TTR which actually nerfed the most useless Organic. And again, I must stress this: LURE BONUS SUCKS DIIIIIIIIIII-

Throw: I'll admit, when I saw it in the QA patch notes, I was hesitant to say the least, but THROW SWAPPING WITH SOUND CHANGES SO MUCH. First off, NO MORE "you lure and throw, ill wedding *uses bike horn*" GREENING. Second: THROW IS JUST SO GOOD AS A DAMAGE DEALER. Combined with the lure changes above, you can deal insane damage to .mgrs with it and Lure. You could probably do an entire Litigation Team with just Lure TU and Throw if you wanted. But it doesn't stop there. Something i neglected to mention is how ALMOST EVERY GAG HAS A UTILITY ATTACHED TO IT. Throw's is a 10% damage vulnerability, and it allows you to do so much. Fun fact tho, it used to have that damage vulnerability as a Prestige, and it scaled with each throw used, but only for 1 turn, and this was when throw was second to last, so it was only really useful for Drop. Now only one person needs to use it and it affects EVERYTHING past it. Got a higher level cog in the mix with some easily soundable ones? Just hit it with a cream, and now it takes even more damage! Just soaked and trapped a .mgr for the accuracy boosts on drop? Add one more debuff to boost Prestige Drop even more (with a free stun!)! AND THEN you add the cherry on top of the Wedding Cake, the self heal prestige. This was absolutely a welcome change, taking some of the heat off of TU and unites as your only healing, to the point that I'd say you should always have your Throw Prestiged. My only complaint is that Toons should take a bite out of it and say "Om nom nom" to heal before throwing it if it's prestige.

Squirt: Squirt in TTR, Throw's crappier brother. Squirt in Clash? Oh man. I'll go more into it in Zap's section, but Zap alone gives Squirt so much use. On its own though, it's still very good. Soaking is good as a dodge debuff, setting up for quick drops on Cogs. But the SINGLE change that made Squirt so good is Splash Damage. Before 1.3, Squirt soaking multiple Cogs was stuck behind a Prestige, so you were basically forced to either run Pres Squirt or don't run it at all. Now, however, not only can you soak multiple Cogs, but it deals free, non-unluring damage to the Cogs on the sides! You can effectively just chip away at a lured Cog until you're ready to take it down, which like the Throw/Sound example above, allows you to lower the Cogs to juuuust enough in just the right way to where a specific Sound threshold kills. Unfortunately, Prestige Squirt kinda gets the short end of the stick, since unless you're running a solo building, you kinda don't need it for most situations. idk what they could do to fix that tho, it's still fine on its own, just usually overkill.

Zap: And now, the thing that singlehandedly both gave Squirt a purpose and alienated a ton of TTR elitists for the better or worse. Before 1.3, Zap was fuckin weird. Zap could change direction, but only if it was prestiged, jump over other cogs including dead ones, there was no jump pool, just a specific set of 3 decreasing numbers correlating to the order it jumped to, which led to charts getting made for specific groups- it was a lot to take in. Those who were able to master it were REALLY GOOD at taking down groups, but were also pretty toxic usually (hence the "fuck Zap Camp" comment earlier). Also, it was the same as Squirt: either run it prestiged or not at all, which fed into the toxicity even more. Now though? It's pretty good. It can be a few different things, a decent AoE on 3 Cogs with lower damage on 2 of them, high damage on 2 Cogs, with some thought into aiming based on prestiges (for unprestige, aim directly at the target, for prestige, aim at the opposite target for more damage), or a kill confirm on an already soaked Cog. It's way more user friendly now, and I will say seeing Zap Camp's charts be completely ruined gave me a little schadenfreude. Sorry, this was a little community ranty, I again have bad experiences with some of the older members.

Sound: SOUND IS NO LONGER META. I REPEAT, SOUND IS NO LONGER META. This comes down to Squirt/Zap being good AoE, as well as 2 more changes to Sound itself: 1. Sound swapped with Throw in the gag order (from 1.2 and back, not tto), and 2. Encore and Winded. First, the swap makes it to where if you're using Sound on Lured Cogs, it's less likely to troll, but for a specific reason. And even if it is to troll, there's ways to get around it better, since Throw and Squirt won't be affected now. And then we have Encore and Winded, two sides of the same coin. It's great to use your Encore bonus to deal tons of damage to a single Cog, but you could always risk being winded to take out an even bigger group now at the expense of having to wait to use sound again. This alternating pattern of Sound into anything else, along with the fact that Sound can't just wipe out everything in the game now makes sure Sound isn't necessary to beat most things. It's still kinda meta for Buildings and Facilities, but those are kinda harder to fix. Oh, also the prestige is the same as Trap, bigger number is better.

Drop: Oh boy, another gag with a tumultuous history. I'll go over this in the IOU section (yes im doing rewards), but to be Barry Brief, in the early days of Clash, Drop had a bug that made it do AoE damage, which some toxic players abused to hell and back, cramming Drop into the top spot of gags, before being squashed in the 1.2 OCLO update. As for Drop now, it's a really nice damage dealer. Not so much for normal bosses, where it's typically just a finisher for a big Cog, but for .mgrs it can be devastating given enough setup. Trap, Lure, Squirt, and either TU for accuracy or IOU for damage, then Throw and 3 Drop. Now, if you were running Unprestige Drop, it would only get a slight boost thanks to Throw, and the other gags the turn before were just to make sure it hit. But slap a Prestige on, and a single debuff adds 10% damage, with an extra 5% for each additional debuff, with Throw's vulnerability counting as a debuff, which STACKS with the Prestige boost, so those two turns just got you an additional 20%, on top of what Throw adds on the pile. And then consider Drop has a 30% combo multiplier instead of the usual 20% combo damage, and .mgrs start dying quickly. Most .mgr fights I do, I run Prestige Drop.

And now, onto the rewards.

IOUs: So before 1.3, we still had SOS cards, but these were the trickiest reward to balance, even more than Unites. On the underpowered side, we had the 1.2 SOS: a percentage increase for 2 TURNS. PERIOD. Wanted to setup for Drop? You better do it quick, because if Drop misses on that second turn youre SoL. Not that it'd matter because for a lot of gags it did jack. But then we have the other, darker side. The ORIGINAL SOS CARDS. If you played TTO or TTR, you already know how busted those things were. But do you remember that bug I mentioned making Drop an AoE gag? This is where it originated. SOS Cards inherited the Combo damage dealt to a single Cog and gave it to the rest of the Cogs as well, so you could potentially deal a ton of damage to multiple Cogs just by nuking one with Combo damage and using an SOS to spread it out. Do you remember Rain, that random IOU you get guaranteed in the VP that gives you and a friend a +15 damage boost on your next turn? Yeah they used to be a simple 20 damage Drop SOS you could get (and farm) from Derrick Man. You know, in TTC. Who at the time had only 63 HP, enough for an Opera pre-1.3 to kill in one hit. All that's left is an incentive to use Drop en masse... Oh? Old Drop had increasing Combo damage for every Drop gag used, up to 50%? And every Prestige Drop used added an additional 5% Combo damage, up to 70% with 4 Prestige Drops, or 65% with one person using an SOS? You can probably see where this is going. The only thing holding it back was the fact that it wasnt guaranteed to hit- OH WAIT TOONS HIT EXISTS IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM STILL. It was bad. Like "anyone who deviates from the Meta is bad" bad. I was one such very vocal dissenter of Team Drop, advocating that Throw was a good gag, and I got shit on hard for it, to the point where the people who still had a grudge long after fabricated false accusations and threw me out. Ugh this got too personal, sorry. Where were we? Oh yeah, IOUs! They're pretty good now! The fact that they use flat numbers and last a set amount of GAGS used means that setups are easier than ever, and even if you miss, you can still use it again with the boost! They're good for pumping out big numbers! They also affect things like Throw self heal and Splash Damage, so keep those in mind too! I personally like using a Sid Sonata after firing the first Cog after feeding round in CEOs to save on operas.

Unites: I have mixed feelings on how Unites were handled, but I'll save that for the Forges section. As for Toon-Up Unites in their current state, they're pretty good! The Cooldown is honestly a needed nerf (so much so that TTR has it now lmao), and the fact it's percentage based means the heals are more fair! (though if someone is really underlaffed for a fight, they might still get squashed even with a unite). Pretty gud!

Forges: Rest in Peace, Gag-Up Unites. You were so slept on. Forges are the worse version of Gag-Up Unites. Instead of everyone getting their gags restocked, even by a little at the expense of you specifically getting a decently sized cooldown, you can only restock a single gag at a time, and if that gag is too high, you get put on cooldown. Why. In a vacuum, they're ok, but it just feels wrong. They could have left Gag-Up Alls in the pool and kept them how they were with only level 7s or lower, but no, ALL GAG-UP UNITES MUST GO apparently.

Sues: honestly better than fires, imo. Let me explain. Both Sues and fires remove a Cog from the fight. "But wait!" You say. "Sues dont remove a cog from the fight, they just make a Cog not attack!" In theory, yes, that's all they do. But because they don't attack, they're basically out of the fight. However, they aren't OUT of the fight, meaning they take up a slot. And because they take up a slot, that means you can just ignore it and focus on the other 3 that are there. And guess which gags work very well with 3 Cogs instead of 4. Just remember to give them a tap every now and then and they won't ever bother you. Also iirc theyre meta to deal with oclo phase 1 lmao. However some fights don't let you use them as much, so be careful.

Fires: Despite what I just said, Fires are still really good. It's just their uses are more limited. The main examples I can think of are the first Cog after feeding round in CEO, as stated earlier, the Featherbedder fight, and Major Player's Dance Partners. Killing a Cog instantly is still killing a Cog instantly, after all.

WHEW that was a long one, sorry for the personal bits, I just wanted to share my thoughts on Clash's balance for a long time, and I'm glad I finally got to do so. Clash is in a much better state than it's ever been, and I can't wait to see how things are shaken up later.

Oh, one more thing.

This is a lot to take in and I love it, some gags and rewards just used to be broken like woah?? It's nice to see how much progress Corporate Clash has really went through all these years to balance the game out to become as fun and good as it is today

I was curious about those Gag-Ups after seeing them from a Multislacker fight stream just a year ago because I didn't know they were still around at 1.3, too bad they don't exist anymore 'cause they would be very useful in longer fights such as with Pace (round wise) and Chip. Maybe there's a good reason for the removal balance wise... hopefully

The SOS cards was something I was wondering about too after hearing someone say a long while ago that they wished those were still around, based on this I can see why they were removed though

Also I don't mind the personal tangents at all, I love hearing about the details of personal experiences and opinions as it puts it on perspective on how things were back then as well as adding to my own knowledge of it. Thank you for the very long info dump :]

starting off with one of the funniest fucking scenes in this whole show with suletta just fucking hauling ass right out of there after guel just surprise proposes to her

just want to juxtapose this with her wild feelings speech in 17 about buying rings and wearing the prettiest dresses

this shot just reminded me of a random detail from the manual for chuchu's demi trainer - it says earth house can't afford their own demi trainers so chuchu's is a modified older version because thats the best they could do.

suletta pilots a demi trainer during the whole field test thing so like... does she own or have a demi trainer loaned out for school use or something? i honestly forgot chuchu pilots her own suit in this scene cuz i had just accepted that the demi trainers for practical exams etc were like just there for the students to use whenever

You rolled your eyes as you walked back out to the car from your apartment, "sorry im taken" you giggled at your boyfriend as he winked.

"what time is the appointment?" Taehyung mumbled as he checked the gps

"uh," you checked your phone, "12, so we have 15 mins to get there"

"hm" he smiled and began to drive once you were in and buckled. "I am really excited, actually"

Once the two of you had actually arrived there, he quickly got out and went around to the side of the car, opening the door for you. "Thank you honey" you mumble, suddenly wishing you had not worn a sweater in the may heat.

He smiled and closed the car, locking it before taking your hand and walking in with you. He loved it so much, the idea of being here with you, being a father.

He had no idea how he went from trying to compete with kaito, to all of a sudden getting to have a child with you. "Hello" you quietly speak, walking up to the front desk as taehyung stands behind you, hands on your hips. "appointment for Y/L/N, Y/F/N,?"

The lady working quickly types into the computer before smiling, "yup! Doctor Goe will be out to call for you in a few moments, please take a seat and fill these out" she hands you 2 clipboards with multiple questions written on them, along with a pen.

Taehyung leads you to a quiet seated space away from the other, older couples as you look over the paper work. "this is so awkward"

"why?" he smiled, peaking over your shoulder to see whats on there.

"perfect, now lets go into the room so I can check you blood pressure and temp"

You nod as she leaves, handing you a paper gown to put on.

"yeah, us too" you nodded, smiling.

"so today our goal is to get some labs done, do a little bloodwork, and then we will get you an ultrasound" she smirked, knowing that most parents are always excited to see their baby for the first time.

"sounds good to me"

She begins asking questions about your symptoms, before ordering a blood draw and urine test, which taehyung found funny for some reason.

"I really didnt have to go" you spoke afterwards, getting dressed again.

"so what did you do?" he snickered

"I had to concentrate and I didnt even fill the cup" you shrugged, throwing your sweater on before walking into the hall with him to head towards the ultrasound room.

Once you laid onto the bed, you began to feel excitement for the first time in a while, the nurse putting some cold gel onto your stomach, making you giggle a little as taehyung sat and held your hand tightly.

"so this is your first ever ultrasound?" the technician asked, smiling

"well no, ive had one before when I had a cyst or something, but this is my first pregnancy ultrasound, so obviously its under a bit better circumstances" you laugh, making tae kiss your knuckles softly.

She nodded, grabbing the probe and gently running it over your tummy as she watched the screen light up, "okay, okay" she smiled, waiting a moment to find what she wanted.

Taehyung kept his eyes down on you, hand holding yours as he felt his heart pickup with excitement, this really did solidify the situation.

The nurse offers a sweet smile, getting up to turn the screen towards the two of you, "are you ready to see baby?"

You feel your chest tighten a bit, but you nod and exchange a glance with taehyung, his expression matching yours: happiness and nervousness.

Once the screen was lit, you could have sword the world had stopped just for you.

There it was, the tiny little blob that was ever so slightly moving around. It was impossible not to tear up, especially for taehyung.

"oh..." he whispered, eyes stuck to the monitor as if he was in a trance, "thats our baby?"

"mhm" you finally look back at him to see small streaks of tears "Thats ours" you take a breath before the nurse spoke up

"want to hear the heartbeat?"

"yes! yes please!" he happily cut in, wiping his eyes and returning to squeeze your hand.

She nodded, turning the machine on so both of you heard a small but quick thump...thump...thump..

You closed your eyes blissfully, knowing that the babies presence was made, it was heard and it was there for everyone to see.

"I know, baby" you smiled brightly as the nurse jotted some stuff down

"so the baby looks healthy, growing perfect, placement is good, and it looks about 2 months along, almost 3...so you are in the first trimester"

You nod as she begins to help wipe off the gel, sitting up a little.

"first trimester symptoms often occur as morning sickness, which doesnt mean just morning, it can be any time" she giggles softly as she reads her papers, "you may also have mood swings, sore breasts, food sensitivity, and fatigue"

"damn" you mumble, looking at tae as he listens to her, mentally jotting down everything she says.

"and have you been taking any prenatal vitamins? any medications?"

You shake yours head, "no I just found out I was pregnant this month"

"okay" she writes something down, "here is a list of recommended vitamins that I would get started on, good for baby and good for mom" she nods, "you guys can get situated and I am gonna grab the sonograms for you, how many would you like?"

You look at tae, "maybe 4? one for both of us, and the others for our families"

He nods "perfect, we will have just 4" he clarifies to the woman, as she goes to process them for you.

Taehyung moved your sweater to cover your stomach, helping you sit up before bringing you into a soft hug. "I love you....thank you"

You giggled quietly, hugging him back, "I love you too, but thanking me for what?"

"for this" he mumbled, pulling away to see your face, "going through this just for our baby, youre so strong"

You smiled gently, "not really anything has happened yet, the fun experience is when I start getting a giant ass stomach and swollen feet" you sarcastically spoke

"hey maybe you can get to use those mobility scooters in the grocery store now" he teased

You burst out laughing, shaking your head, "no!...im not doing that, I dont care if im on the verge of popping, I will be walking to the isles on feet"

He giggled and helped you stand to your feet now, "but for real...Im really excited about this" he looked at your intertwined fingers, "please let me know if you need anything, im here to support you, I dont care what the time or place is"

"okay here you guys go, congratulations again!" the nurse spoke with a wide grin as she entered, handing us the 4 photos of the little baby.

"thank you so much, you've been so kind" you chirp, smiling at the pictures

"of course honey, and remember to check out the vitamins" she added as you agreed, walking out of the hall and back to the waiting room.

"went really well, huh?" you giggle, pushing the door open and walking into the parking lot with taehyung. "here you go baby"

you handed him the sonogram as you gently placed the other three in your purse.

He took it into his hands as his eyes softly grazed over it, Taehyung almost couldn't believe it.

It was all hitting him in this moment, the baby, the fact that you were actually pregnant, and you both were gonna need to change a lot of things in your lives, as well as probably moving into a larger apartment. Was it stressful? oh yeah, but did he yearn it, with you, more than anything? of course.

The both of you soon left with your bag of items, smiles on your face as you held each others hands, your feet leading you down the sunny sidewalk.

The older woman smiled, nodding "yes, youre young, nice from what I can tell, and you said you have experience with children?"

"yes! when I was in high school I volunteered with the pre-school kiddos, super cute and I loved doing it every week"

"perfect" she wrote something down, "and how far away do you live?"

"oh I live not too far, I walked here today and it took about 7 minutes"

"oh thats great! and how do you feel about hours? we are open monday-friday, 8am to 3pm"

You thought for a moment, "well I just finished up my semester in college for the year, but I will be taking classes again in the fall, so what I choose now may change" you giggle softly, "um, right now I think about 3 days a week will be good, I should probably mention that I am pregnant too"

She smiled widely, "oh my God, congratulations, youre so young?"

"thank you, and yeah I know" you shyly smile, "um but..yeah 3 days I think is good, my boyfriend is also getting a job so he will work on the days I dont"

She nodded, finishing writing things down, "if you dont mind me asking, how far along are you?"

"oh just about 3 months, so no maternity leave until like..October or September."

"okay okay.." she put her clipboard down and smiled, standing to shake your hand, "well, Y/N, you are hired, I think you will be amazing here"

"I seriously cannot thank you enough!" you shook her hand and collected the papers, reciprocating the gentle hug she gave you before handing over the shirt you will wear.

"I'll see you next week"

you nodded and thanked her again, turning to head home as fast as you could so you can tell taehyung.

juggling with everything in your arms, you manage to take your key out and open the door, calling out his name "tae!! Im home!!'

when he didnt respond you gently placed everything on the kitchen island and walked through the hall, "baby? you home?"

"in here"

you listened to his muffled voice coming from his bedroom, "you can come in" taehyung added

You twisted the handle and opened the door, eyes wide as you gazed around at the room. "taehyung....what is all this"

He sheepishly smiled, "I know its early, like, really early, but I wanted to start by clearing some stuff out" he walked over "this can be the nursery"

Your face softened, "baby...you didnt have to- what about your bed? where is all this stuff gonna go?"

"we can sell the bed, and the old desk, I never even sleep in here anymore and your room is the bigger one anyways, this is perfect for the baby"

You looked at everything on the walls now in boxes, the bed stripped and everything pushed into one corner of the room, "baby....thank you, but are you sure?" you whispered

He nodded, pointing at the other corner "i put some of the things we bought over there, we can just toss it all in this room until we actually begin to decorate. youre okay with me bringing some of my things into your room?"

You smile, "yeah honey, thats ok" you look up at him and hold his arm lovingly. "youre so sweet....the baby will probably be with us for the first few months, in our room, you know that right?"

"yeah, but still they need a place of their own" he shrugged, kissing your forehead. "how did the interview go?"

You giggle, pulling away to jump around, "I got the job, I start next week and im working Monday through Wednesday, it pays super well"

"baby!" he smiled and picked you up, spinning around a little "im so proud of you, I knew you would get it, they would be crazy not to hire you!!"

He kissed you a bunch of times, making you smile even wider. "I love you sweet girl, so much"

"I love you too, I love you soooo much" you kissed him back, gently swaying in his semi-empty bedroom.

"we are doing good so far, like if we just paid attention to us and the situation....things arent too bad" he shrugged

"I agree, lets just hope it stays that way" you press a soft kiss to his neck.

"oh and 2 things, one, my check from the art show finally came in, they gave me 3k"

"holy shit, tae"

"I know I know but I think its a good idea to put it aside for a bit, life isnt that pricey right now but we know things will change, so lets make it emergency money."

You nod, "okay thats fine, thats a lot of money though, god"

He chuckles, "I know, oh and the other thing" he walks and sits on his mattress. "I think we should go on our Paris trip soon....I know you were feeling iffy about it, but almost everything is paid for, it'll just be a little one week thing....one last big trip before-" he glances down at your stomach. "hotel is already paid, and the food is too if we eat there. only thing we need to pay for is things we decide to purchase, and transportation"

You sigh and sit next to him, "hmm....I dont know...I mean I wanna go to Paris soon too but I also told my mom we, or I, would be with her this summer in Gwangju, but now that I have a job it will just have to be a short visit. Besides I thought we booked the Paris trip for August."

He frowned slightly, "I mean the trip isnt really booked unless I call them, but I was just thinking maybe its better to have it sooner, so youre not like 6 months pregnant when we go, and that way you can relax for a week or so with your mom after."

"hmm" you ponder, resting your head on his shoulder. "lots of traveling, I hope my work doesnt get mad at me"

"yeah..."

"i mean....I guess we can try to go next month" you look at him, "but I would like to tell our parents before we go, because I think if I see my mom after she will definitely be able to tell if im 4 months pregnant"

He nods and kisses you gently, "okay baby, we will tell our families"

"dont worry...Im nervous too" you held his hand, eyes dragging to the small collection of baby things the two of you had bought.

"one way or another we will get through it."

my friend, you have activated my trap card in such a major way, this is the special interest that has me writing a dissertation in one of my friends discords, they had to quarantine me in a thread because of how much I love Archive 81. I'll be quarantining myself below a read more so I dont clog up dashes.

Archive 81 is a podcast about ritual, stories, and sound. It's also a REALLY, REALLY BAD NETFLIX SHOW. DO NOT WATCH THE NETFLIX "ADAPTATION", PLEASE. (this is whats in the discord thread, by the way, a currently ongoing compare and contrast of the podcast and the show where im breaking down why the show is so truly fucking terrible)

There are currently three seasons to A81, and two miniseries that exist between the second and third season, and after the third season. All are equally important and I sincerely recommend listening to each season in order, and not skipping the miniseries. However, each season is very different from the last, so I will pretty much be focusing only on season one to avoid spoilers.

Archive 81 season one is about Daniel Powell, a capital G Guy who has just taken a job with the Housing Historical Committee of New York State to digitize some old tapes. If you've listened to The Magnus Archives, this premise may sound familiar to you, and I promise if you enjoyed that podcast you'll like A81 as well.

I think that the first episode of A81 is a masterclass in setup, and really I can talk about it forever but you should just go listen to it, it's only 16 minutes long and seriously sets everything up so, so well. But I'll go over the basic premise here, partially because I really do just like talking about it.

First episode Dan gets set up by his boss, a condescending man named Davenport, in his new temporary home: a concrete bunker in the middle of nowhere with no internet and limited cell service. Sounds super normal and not sketchy At All! Oh, also the stocked food consists of mainly canned peaches, there's no sheets on the bed, and the power goes out intermittently. Again, just ideal living conditions.

And there's one more thing! Dan has to be recorded, constantly. 24/7.

So he's set up and immediately set to work, Davenport leaves and Dan slots in the first tape.

This is where we meet Melody Pendras, a journalist working for the Urban Preservation and Development Department of New York State and god, don't these departments and committees just sound so official?

All of Melody's tapes take place in the mid-90s and contain a series of interviews that she conducted in the Visser Apartments in New York. See, the apartments are kinda... weird. To put it mildly. There's voices that disappear when you turn the corner, music that comes from nowhere, and a cult run by someone named Samuel.

See, this is where I have to geek out a bit about the first episode in particular. Its, *insert hand flaps here* its so good.

The first tape that Dan puts is Melody's first time going in to Visser. She introduces herself, the apartment, and gives us the beginning of her story. The second tape Dan puts in is Melody's last time going in to Visser. She's panicked, talking about Samuel and how hes evil and a boiler room and how shes got a plan and -

the tape cuts off, damaged, warped, something.

This is how the story hooks Dan, showing him it's beginning and almost-end. Leaving him to figure out it's middle and the mystery of what actually happened to Melody.

At the end of the first episode, we meet Mark. Mark informs us that what we just listened to was a tape sent to him by Dan, before Dan went missing. He's not sure what to do, but is hoping that, by putting these tapes out here, someone who knows something will come forward.

This is how the story hooks us, showing us it's beginning and almost-end. Leaving us to figure out it's middle and the mystery of what actually happened to Dan.

And that's the first season. We, the audience, parallel Dan the whole way through. Its just, so good, for reasons I, again, don't want to spoil. But this parallel becomes important in The Golden Age, the miniseries between the second and third season.

Speaking of the second season, this is why I think the switch was so jarring to a lot of listeners. The first season gets us to relate to Dan so closely because we are him in a way, and the second season breaks that parallel. Well, this and the uhh. cough. there's a community created content warning document for the show, and the second season required a breakdown of body horror into four different types. so. yeah. If you're not a fan of Bad Meat Noises, it... may not be for you, sadly (season 2 is my favorite season).

The third season I will talk a bit about because it again turns a 180 to the point where a brief summary is not much of a spoiler. This is partially because Dan is not our main character! Instead we get to meet Nicholas and Christine, half-siblings who are attempting to preform a ritual left by their horrible occultist father.

When I say season two is my favorite it is by the smallest margin. I adore this whole entire show so, so much. Including the miniseries. The third season is fucking excellent, and if you find yourself turned off by the second season then honestly go ahead and scooch up to the third, with a stop at The Golden Age on the way. You'll be a bit confused, but ok.

There are also transcripts of the show available (the lovely unofficial ones which are fantastic but not finished, and the official ones) if you don't want to listen to the Bad Meat Noises but don't mind reading them, however I really strongly recommend against this. Sound is a huge part of the show (rituals, stories, and sound, remember?) and the sound design is really good.

Again I can talk about A81 all day, and when I finish my lecture on the podcast versus the show (evil, terrible) I'll clean it up and post it on here, because I'm actually rather proud of it so far and I'm not even halfway through my talking points.

Hopefully this has convinced you to give A81 a try! Seriously, the whole first season is 10 15-18 minute episodes, you can chomp through the whole thing in an afternoon.

My meaning about Prince Hans from Disneys Frozen pt 1

Okay, now I wanted to tell my opinion about Prince Hans. A lot of people called him a "monster", because he wanted to kill Elsa and Anna and nearly succeded. Well, nearly. Okay, makes him a villian. But as much other Disney villians, he didnt suceeded to kill someone. Thats why I dont understand how and I dont like the treatments Elsa and the others gave him in the short films and movies. Jaffar, Gaston and Scar for example didnt get such a treatment. I have seen worse villian characters, in other childrens series, compared to them Hans is an angel. As a "Monster" I would Hans seen if he had behaved like this after they threw him into the ships jail. He would have not stayed resigned on the ground, he would have jumped up, grinning evilly with a dark look on his face, sneering with a cold voice:"Dont think this is over! I will find a way to return and then I will kill you, ice witch-and wring your b*itchy little sisters neck for hitting me!" Elsa and Anna should have accompaied the guards when they threw him into the cell. And then Hans should have laughed like a maniac-well, till Elsa quieted him with an ice gag. This would left a dramatic end.

This behaviour would let me see him as "Monster". Still fighting and threathing. But he did nothing of that. He knew he failed -and he stayed quiet. But the "fine damsels" stayed away celebrating happily, not even losing a single more moment about Hans. Who knows how Hans grew up with his twelve brothers. I dont think he had a happy childhood. This made him probably obsessed to concquer a kingdom for his own. Well, in my fanfic some villians got a second chance to change the sides.

What I dont like on Elsa and Anna is their arrogant behaviour towards Hans. We see this in the second movie and in the new short film in this art gallery. For me a good king or queen makes who did rule wise and fair, but an important fact is to show sometimes forgiveness too. Its so long ago and they showed no forgiveness for Hans. No, it seems they will hate him forever. Thats not nice. Hans did not kill someone in the movie or continued to show pure evil or revenge like other Disney characters. Jaffar got a sequel, why not Hans? To show forgiveness from time to time to people they eventually deserved it will make the sisters even better rulers .Or that they even help Hans to find a new live. I wish they would be a film about Hans being held imprisoned in Arendelle instead of sending him home and Olaf would sneak into the cell from time to time to just talk with Hans, to win his trust and that he finds out why he became like he is and that he pours out his heart to the Snowman. I think Olaf has a heart big enough to try it even with Hans to talk things out and to find redemption for him. (We know what happend to Scar in the Lion Guard, we learned about his past-and Kion forgave him-and we know, that Scar killed Mufasa, Kions Granpa.)

Like legit as its written well I dont think those fics are exactly much of a problem- Bc its just like “omg they help each other heal” kinda thing- I do personally prefer the fics where rise is like “erm yall are really fuckin rude to each other” “well yall are all emotionall constipated” and just help each other heal n shit lol

idk shit about shit TO BE HONEST. I have NO horse in this race except for the nebulous horse-concept of "I like to read fics about abuse and i want the abuse to be realistic or well thought out in one form or another"

i never got around to watching all of 2012 and i probably never will cuz sometimes it makes me UNCOMFORTABLE but not like, in the fun way that i seek out. it makes me uncomfortable in the "oh the people writing this thought this was a funny joke but it mirrors my home life too much to be funny and now im uncomfortable cuz i'm painfully aware that there are ppl out there that think this is just like. comedy. and probably don't even care ppl like me exist." <- person who was lowkey bullied by its sibling

like there are things to appreciate in 2012 for sure and i even like it like 60% to 70% of the time but it's also kind of triggering sometimes and i cant really tell when it will be either one of those.

ok but thats just me talking about my feeligns- BACK TO THE SUBJECT AT HAND:

I honestly don't see a lot of value in reading fics that are like, a meta "here's what i think is wrong with this series" or bashing other versions of tmnt. i mean i understand why someone would write them but they don't hold a lot of value for me personally as a reader.

to this day my favorite A-Team Is Abusive fic is These Days, it's been abandoned i think, but reading it was soooo good for me. I remember the genuine anxiety i felt while donnie was setting up his plan to run away. the authors got other fics too and it makes me CRAVE some good dysfunctional family reconciliation.

also it's clear, or at least it appears so to me, that the author really cares about these characters and is kind of taking the whole "ok but what if its not slapstick and we take the physical violence stuff and belittling stuff seriously" route which is like. yeah i really like that actually.

plus the like, leo dealing with the pressure of leading his family and kinda failing is !!! idk. and i really liked raph there cuz he was like a jerk but also totally understandable to me yknow, if you've been doing something forever it might not occur to you that it's REALLY BAD hhfasujgksadmagg.

as for rise/2012 crossovers. uh. shrug emoji. idk shit about shit but the few ive tried to read weren't realllyyyy my kind of thing, cuz they mostly seem to be meta fics about the authors opinon on fandom stuff instead of like. anything else, hefff. so. eh.

I read your notes about DAQ on that wyll vs dorian post and i just could not agree more. Specifically the thing about krem you said, i absolutely hate how the game while trying to introduce trans friendly concepts just. Forcibly makes your character cis in association. Like no my inquisitioner would not say any of that shit!!! He is trans!!!! And you could tell that shit was not written by a trans person. I think they were trying to avoid using many trans specific words to fit in with the setting but like? "Why do you pass?" Is not a question that makes sense for someone to ask and i hate that theyre taking an existing trans term and trying to make it mean like....the entire concept of transitioning?? Idk i feel like i would be more ok if they could have you be like "oh dw i am also trans" but nah we as the player are just assumed to be cis. Also yeah as you said, inventing transphobia in a series where that wasnt present before, its annoying.

Oh dont get me started I could talk about my gripes with the handling of transness in dragon age (and particularly inquisition) forever. Actually do get me started this has been a long time coming.

YEP. Yep yes exactly. your options are 'three flavors of being transphobic' or 'when did you know' . which is what i picked, because you can stretch your imagination a little at least.

But there's also this other tiny elephant in the room issue with Krem that i didnt mention in those tags. Or should i say. Bull in the room ? Because holy shit, way to take away the trans character's speaking voice and characterization so we get to know how much of an ✨Ally ✨the cis man bestie is! Like okay if you're being a transphobic shithead it makes a bit More sense that he'd get defensive and speak up for Krem, but when your question was 'when did you know', Krem answers 'when i was young. not a great thing to know about yourself' and then Bull immediately cuts in to cisplain transness is like? What was the Idea there. Which then makes the dialogue choices being 90% straight up transphobia MORE suspicious, because the game is letting you, almost pushing you to verbally harass Krem.. almost like he doesn't REALLY matter, he's just a vessel to see how Progressive And Trans Friendly And A Good Friend Bull is. Thanks, i hate it.

Even in terms of backstory Bull being Krems savior when he was trying to escape his life etc never really sat right with me. Like there's an underlying demsel vibe i feel the devs stuck in there that really irks me. Not helped by the fact that we dont have a trans voice actor. Also not helped by the fact that this is a fantasy setting with magic but some form of magic hrt? Nah too impossible. Like sure there's some implication that it MIGHT exist somewhere but because magic Bad in the dragon age setting and tevinter magic Even Worse he wouldn't go for it- Like ok. some people might prefer their trans realism in faux medieval media. even fantasy. Im not one of those people. And all those justifications read more like excuses to me. Like you're telling me the circles wouldn't be making BANK out of selling trans-your-gender potions and abusing the shit out of it? And just. Again this makes the setting retroactively much Worse because where before i could point to my warden or Hawke and go 'yeah that's a trans man via magic hrt' and someone who prefers trans realism could ALSO do the same when making theirs how they like. Vagueness in such matters allows for imagination! But now dai is saying noo they had to be cis. And your inquisitor also. Fuck that.

Also yeah as you said, inventing transphobia in a series where that wasnt present before, its annoying.

one tiny correction here. there were hints of transphobia in the first two games, but it was mostly contained in like. Oghren style aged like milk type humor. more meta than text i guess. like in the Pearl in game one if you ask to be surprised there's a chance you get the ever hilarious 'haha you got man in a dress' *crickets* And then Serendipity in mark of the assassin.. well the wiki says she's meant to be a drag queen. So not 100% related to this discussion. But the execution of her character just felt SO mean spirited to me when i was playing that i felt it needed to be mentioned as well. (So i just love her out of spite now. ) But anyway yeah. Out of all the lgbtq things dragon age touches on i feel like gender is one that they. dont really even try to tackle in good faith. And it just got worse as the games went on. I can handle easily skippable side gags that are shitty and unfunny. Inquisition tries to actually bring ATTENTION to the topic, and proceeds to fall flat on its face. Not to mention Sera. Them having one of the main companions being transphobic in banter.

Im going to be honest with you - im kinda Yang fan. Like, sure i love Ruby, Weiss and Blake too in one way and another, but Yang is special case for me, no matter how she end up written in the show.

She one of those characters, who just go into “you love her because she literally your favorite type of characters” - light hair buff girl, who dont scare to be extra fem, but also can fucking kill you. Party girl who also your old sister, who always with you and ready to help you when you lost. She have her own issues, but she trying her best to be better. Ever after she falling, she will rest and get back more stronger.

And everything that i told you is kinda true...but mostly on paper or in my headcanons. Or honestly its now headcanons for a lot of fans from this fandom.

Like yeah, she IS your blond dangerous girl, but she never was “the muscular one”. She strong, sure, but you lie to yourself that “oh we dont see her muscle because of budget/program restriction (to hard to model buff girl)/a closed clothes”. Baby i WISH Yang was build like a brick wall, i wish she was build at least like LeanBeefPatty, but this is not true. I absolutely love the idea of her being buff lady

She for a long times in not “party girl”. She maybe was, but we never saw or know her friends outside of characters that we know and she meat in Beacon. She even got new characteristic “the scary one” that in this series im not sure how work or how this blondy is looks “scary” outside of her anger issues (but im more about her look).

And im not sure how good she is as a sister. I dont have problem with her in first volumes, like her deciding the best decision to make Ruby find new friends is just run away (its not the best one options to do to just drop her right there, when you only got there and this is new fucking place and its better to stick together at least for a little bit, but knowing Yang - its fine, im fine with this. Plus later she WAS helping her to start conversation with Blake. Still in “Yang way” but helping.) but with each volumes its harder and harder to remember that they are a sisters. I dont ask to them stick together forever because “ouhhhhh they sisters and sisters is always together forever!” but even with moments that we have its hard to remember that they sisters at all. Ther is some moments there and there when she is acting like her sister (Vol5 when even meating Raven and be able to ask why she just...run away, the first thing she was trying to ask is for finding Ruby and have soft reunion. Vol7, when Salem did “your mom” moment. Vol8 short hug and this whole scene on the stairs). But there is a problem - around after vol5 there is a scenes that you can count with your two hands. There is more scenes about Blake that about Ruby. Hell i cannot remember any sisters interaction in vol6 at all outside of when Ruby look at Yang happily on the ship...and even then this scene was about Yang/Blake, not about Ruby be happy that Yang is alright. And its purposefully got worst in vol9 that didnt have proper ending.

We been told that Yang is kinda sister, who always too much with Ruby, but its never was there in the show. We been told that Yang was sister, who was have to be parent figure for Ruby because they dad was too deep into depression to be there, but you will never see anything that will make you go “yeah she totally act like someone, who know pretty well her young sister because of this”. And AGAIN vol9 did not make this situation better because she didnt saw any signals that Ruby is not okay or didnt was trying to talk with Ruby. There was “hey, you okay?” but there continue.

She have issues and she even know what issues, but its never was a thing that later involve into something more. She got okay with her arm pretty fast and dont have any problem anymore. Adam is dead so its magically heal her PTSD or any problem after loosing her arm. Her anger problem transform from her talking with Tai and trying to listen him for a couple volumes (this is why we didnt saw her fully using her powers until the end of vol6) back into a joke and its not making her relationship with Blake, who was dating with person who was “Walking angry boyfriend”, looks pretty great. Its there, but its not the topic for talk between person, who “pretty fresh” from abuse relationship.

Her abandonment issues? Exist on paper. Its sound like a cool idea, especially knowing that not only Raver run away from her, but she lost Summer AND Tai was not there, when she need him the most when she was small. And then after vol3 Ruby run away from her AND Blake after Adam situation, without explaining anything. This issues is dont trigger almost at all, even in the most painful moments (vol9, AGAIN). We will just hug Jaune and will remember about Ruby only after we will see her tree statue. Hell its never was even a thing to talk about it with Blake! You cant just start a conflict and then abruptly end with “we protect each other”. I dont want to see “trauma porn”, i just want to see something that will make me believe that characters IS having some struggles and make me believe that yes, they work really hard to deal with all of this and make moments when they win much stronger. Hell even stuff like “omg love heal them :)” that not the most healthiest moral in the world and kinda a little bit harmful cliche, but there is nothing even that. They just...speedrun they trauma or stay up skit it.

Honestly, a lot of people already point out that Blake character was nerfed and transform into “just shy cat-girlfriend” but the same i can say for Yang. She never was “the favorite one” in term of writing (even in term of her design even in her first outfit you can see the differences between her and RWB. She maybe was Monty favorite in term of “having punch character” to animate, but im not sure she was the most important one, when writers was imagining her in the show.) but even with what small stuff we got with her at all she manage to get worst. She now just blond girlfriend, who ready to punch anyone for her shy girlfriend (that cute concept, if both of the girls was not made into this and was made like this from the start) and act kinda “masculine” enough to make some of people go “yes she the man in this relationship”. (even know...this is not how this work.). She had a problems before in term of her character or how she work in this series, but this is not getting better at all.

I can go forever about her but i need to stop. She just cool looking blond girl with popular (in fandom) and active VA. And for me personally its sad, because she has inspired me so much that she influenced several of my characters. I know, almost every character in this show is “full of potentials, that got fuck up” but she is special case for me.
