AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED on writing erotic povs of 'problematic content.'
I'm sorry, but if you write exclusively as a soulless narrator with politically correct and culturally moral opinions, your writing is boring. Give your narrator some spice! Yes, you can write murder erotically. Yes, you can write a cute wholesome scene like its the most disgusting thing in the universe from the narrator's perspective. You can write a mean narrator that pokes fun at the reader. You can write a weirdly maternal narrator that holds your readers hand and is meant to come off as mildly patronizing. You can write a sarcastic narrator, or an extremely blunt narrator. You can even write a narrator that is some insane political extremist. It's fiction. Creative writing. So be creative.
Write characters who's thought processes and actions are awful and make them look appealing. Write scenes that are relatively normal and make them look scary or strange. Please just write with some shred of creativity.
I need to go to the fucking library and read some good classics before I go fucking crazy. Y'all do not know how to just let go and enjoy the artistic process and it Shows. Everything is a reflection of you as a person. You always feel watched and judged. In the age of the internet, I guess it's understandable. (D'ya see what I did there, sympathetic to a problematic character-- in this case, the audience that wants to kill art for its wild spirit?)
Anyway here's a writing prompt:
Write a narrator that isn't Your Social Face. Bonus points if the narrator is telling the story very differently from how the characters or scenery do. Put your whole pussy into it bro.
And remember. The narrator is a character, too. And that character does not have to be You.

I have an idea I will need to ruminate on later to flesh it out more, but it goes something like this:
Shang Qinghua is God of the World, in the sense that he was a god who got a premonition of a Calamity that would destroy the entire world. So to prevent that all the gods pool their power to separate the world into one where all the mythology and stuff is real and a copy that's basically a low-magic/no-magic version that will be safe from said Calamity. They make the System to keep the two separated-but-connected and to help Shang Qinghua remake the original world when the time is right. Shang Qinghua, as the god who foresaw the looming disaster and was pivotal in averting it got tasked with taking the remaining divine power and going to the other world to hide from the Calamity and write the world back into existence once it's all over.
Except something goes wrong. One world is destroyed as anticipated, but Shang Qinghua has lost his godly powers and his memories when he got placed into the no-magic world. He's just our poor author friend Airplane bro.
The System is so relieved when the creator finally starts to write that it immediately implements it all without screening - System has been programmed to be very efficient! It can extrapolate from the smallest crumbs to recreate the world and its history in full! When Shang Qinghua has written enough that the world is back to its fully functioning glory the System is meant to bring the author-creator back to survey the world, but it does an oopsie and hey, transmigration! The restrictions on having to follow the plot are there so Airplane can experience the the life of a human in this recreated world as he had written it, so that corrections can be made before the new world is finalized. The 'Return Home' function isn't meant to take Shang Qinghua back to the other world, it's meant to turn him back into a proper God of the World(s) so he can make revisions, with full admin access. That's why it can't be dismissed permanently, it will happen eventually when Shang Qinghua reaches the end of his life or ascends.
The PIDW world also exists, as a backup copy in a way? So god Qinghua can always look at it and check what the effects of his revisions are. It's real enough that Bingge gets to hop over to the SVSSS world for his appearance in the extras.
Shen Qingqiu gets the System's attention because during his qi deviation he briefly makes contact with his incarnation in the other world and gets a full set of copies of Shen Yuan's memories. Someone who has read the Divine Work and can help keep Airplane on track with the plot and in character, because System is getting really agitated that its god is trying really hard to get out of what the System perceives as a short roleplay session. So it locks Shen Jiu's memories away for the time being and let's 'Shen Yuan' lose on the world.
A lock that gets eventually removed shortly after canon SVSSS ends. And the Shen Jiu personality and all his memories take priority because they are the ones that originally belong to this incarnation.
It's a big old mess, waking up and realizing that he lived the last couple of years as if he was a spoiled young master, shoved against his will into someone else's life. The memories from Shen Yuan's life in the other world are faded - still there, but they don't have as much of an effect on him anymore - but the things he felt and experienced since his qi deviations are all very vivid and very disorienting.
He needs time, to make sense of himself. He needs to think and he needs to be away from Binghe for a while, because the jealous disdain he felt for the child who had all the inherent gifts needed for success but still acted the helpless sheep and the love 'Shen Yuan' felt for adult Binghe are both there, equally vivid.
When he comes out of secluded meditation he's... different. Not cruel Shen Jiu, not kind Shen Yuan, but something in between. Much closer to the former, to the initial displeasure of most everyone who's not Yue Qingyuan, but there are aspects of the person he became in the last few years that he refuses to let go.
The eventual talk with Luo Binghe is beyond uncomfortable. It's not easy to admit to someone so much more powerful than him that he's more of the person Binghe hated rather than the person he loved. He's not the kind shizun, he refuses to pretend to be. If Luo Binghe wants to leave, there could be a way for him to go to Shen Yuan, who is the closest thing, but Binghe should keep in mind: that's not the person who has fallen in love with him. He likely would, if given a chance to meet Binghe, but they don't have history together.
He tells him that despite everything, the person Shen Qingqiu is now still loves Luo Binghe - loves him differently so things will need to change, but this is all he can offer. If Luo Binghe is willing to give it a try and see if he can love this sharper, more cruel Shen Qingqiu back, then Shen Qingqiu will not push him away.

really fucking sick and tired of people who really fucking love the eddie book jumping on people who don't like or are even remotely critical of it's posts and like crusading their opinions around from the top of their high horses and shoving it down our throats.
if you like the book, great! that's awesome! love that for you! i am genuinely glad that you were able to find good in it and enjoy it!!
but not everyone did, and not everyone is going to agree with you. so, instead of going on some grand crusade where you find every single post that includes anything even remotely negative or negative adjacent or even neutrally critical and spending ALL this time and effort trying to provide unwanted rebuttals to every single thing, maybe you should just stay in your lane and find people who DO like the book and chat about it with them.
because i can PROMISE YOU, none of us appreciate it when you come onto our posts and start accusing us of "hating on" the author or "being rude" about her and her work and RIDICULOUS shit like that.
being critical of something and pointing out it's flaws is NOT inherently hating on it. i, frankly, do not know where people got that notion, but it's not fucking true so can we fucking quit assuming it is? and, critiquing something is also NOT the same as saying this is shit and it sucks and the author is a piece of garbage. again, where the fuck that came from is beyond me. you can be critical of something and still enjoy it. as soooo many of you love to point out, it's not perfect, why should it be perfect? so D U H. of course that means criticism can and should arise???
also. hot take (by which i mean ice fucking cold because it's NOT a fucking hot take), but going around toting FALSE facts as part of your "defense" does not make you or your argument look good. you, like the author, should maybe do a basic fact check first. 🙃
tldr, if you like the book, that's genuinely great, but stay in your fucking lane and stop seeking out posts from people who didn't like it to start shit in the notes.
#flight of icarus#stranger things#this has happened to me and to so many of my friends and im fucking SICK of it#i didn't even hate the book either!! i thought it was just okay#and yet i STILL get all these book lovers jumping down my throat about things i say about the book#things that - HONESTLY are not even like that scathing!!!!!#like god damn all im asking for is a little BASIC effort from the author and they all think thats me asking for her head on a platter#its NOT#i have no problem with the author#she's whatever to me honestly just a vessel through which the book was given to us#ALSO she is some nebulous blob way outside my orbit. AS IN any critiques i have of her and her work are NOT direct assaults on her???#like i dont fucking KNOW her#im not saying any of this to her face#she is a published writer she should KNOW the risks she is taking when she publishes her writing#not everyone is going to like it! there are going to be people who are critical of it! there are going to be people who hate it!#critiques and pointing out mistakes and wishing for things to have been different is not a fucking direct attack#those things are actually pretty fucking common responses to ANYTHING#and a lot of times theyre actually meant as useful helpful things geared towards improvement and not something to tear someone down with#some people on the internet need to go touch grass and learn how to CRITICALLY THINK again#the world is not as black and white as you think#n e ways. rant over. if you stuck around through all of that kudos to you. i am just. at the end of my rope with this bullshit.

Now, in absolute fairness to everyone involved, they DID make it very clear to FRIDA and Deanna that, in fact, they ARE dangerous and, in fact, it WOULD be safer to leave. FRIDA's decision to go try and talk down a werewolf was entirely their own fault.
I adore FRIDA with my whole heart BUT I'm starting to have concerns that they have...let's put it as, they've retained some of their designers' worldview.

i think a huge irritant i have in general w stephanie garber fans is that they unironically say that they want and need more traditional female characters in media because we’re lacking in them. you’re definitely lying and also what books are you reading where the girls aren’t traditionally feminine? i want to read them

Isnt it wild how when u look for actual reviews of video games- proper reviews, critical ones that don't just rip everything to shreds bc they don't like it but ones that look at the game as a whole and dissect it, what's good and whats bad and what could be fixed and what doesnt need to be- all you find is shit like. All sex scenes ranked from best to worst. All endings ranked. I got this game bc of thirst traps on tiktok.

I’ve been reading some criticism of ttpd and have been trying to read with an open mind and something that’s hit me is I don’t think tortured poets department is an “era” and I think after the eras tour it would be amazing to move away from eras and just let music be music? I guess this is a direct call at the paste article, calling it an era.
I’d be curious to see how taylor refers to it! like talking about the eras tour set and adding ttpd songs as a full set, I’m not sure if I see them fitting and that’s okay!!! I also said I didn’t think she’d tour til she owned all her music so what do I know. idk. I love this album so much, it’s going to be my new favorite regardless! I just wanted to rant a little because I just listened to someone I follow on instagram rant about it a little and im full of emotions!

trying to think of scenarios inspired by the show Severance
like: an innie secretly hooks up with one of their coworkers, but their outie is a major homebody and a virgin so knows exactly what must have happened when their belly starts getting big
or an innie steps out of the elevator one day to realise they’re sporting a big round tummy— turns out it’s been weeks since their previous day of work, and their outie has been doing a lot of growing in the meantime
idk, there’s a lot of potential for characters who share a single body in clearly defined shifts of time, but i’m not sure where to go with it exactly. any more ideas, if you’ve seen the show?

My favourite ongoing halimede bit is whenever anyone's like. "Wow ms halimede, you're spitting facts :)" she always replies "I never spit >:(" it's so fucking stupid but it cracks me up every time I'm not expecting it it's so out of tone with the rest of her tweets. I'm really enjoying also people being mad at the halimede rp account for being a liberal like that isn't, like, her entire point.

Quote
His writing is—both aesthetically and in substance—page by page, line by line, without interruption, worthless. The only thing impressive about it was that he managed to take a subject flush with intrigue and grind it down into something so boring, so absolutely pedantic and without glamour . . .

your 'rough draft' writing style is extremely good, maybe if you post it now and keep it up after you post the polished version people can compare?
