Join me tonight at the reception for Claims of Harm, a group show highlighting SAIC community members (where I’ll be showing off my shiny new alumni card) examining cultures of harm in our society, and the ways in which we can address them. My piece Pallid Mourning is included in the show, and there are other amazing pieces you don’t want to miss!
Non SAIC people, you’ll need a state ID to get into the building. It’s in the first floor gallery of the Sharp Building!
RECEPTION: Thursday, April 25, 4 – 6 pm.
37 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, IL, 60603 (SAIC Sharp building)

A petition created in October by an SAIC alumnus calling for Tosca’s dismissal received over 2,400 signatures.
In a tweet on October 10, Tosca accused Israel of “making money off of war.”
“Always has, always will,” Tosca added.
Tumblr media
Mika Tosca accused Israel of making money off of war just days after Israel was attacked by Hamas.
Canary Mission claims Tosca retweeted an October 10 tweet that said: “how tidily should this have proceeded? this is ‘terrorism’ cos Hamas has targeted civilians. ok should they simply have declared war on their warden? would the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] have met them in formation on a field, beating drums, for a fair fight? I do not love violence but what is expected?”
Tosca’s Instagram account describes Tosca as a “radically optimistic transsexual climate scientist.”
Tosca previously worked at NASA’s renowned Jet Propulsion Laboratory before switching to SAIC. Tosca explained the 2017 career move as a way of helping scientists better communicate.
“I think artists and designers and other creatives have a really special and unique way of imagining and interpreting and analyzing our world in a way that scientists don’t always do,” Tosca told Chicago’s PBS station. “I wanted to think about new ways, or perhaps more effective ways, of ultimately getting the general public to buy into the science but also the solutions to climate change.”

🇬🇧 Embark on a journey through the captivating history of the MG F, a beloved roadster that epitomizes British motoring heritage and sports car excitement!
🚘 The MG F, unveiled in 1995, heralded a resurgence of the iconic MG brand under Rover Group (formerly British Leyland). This mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive, two-seater convertible roadster encapsulated the essence of classic British sports cars while embracing contemporary design and engineering.
🏭 The MG F was the first new model crafted exclusively as an MG since the MGB, which was produced from 1962 to 1980. Throughout the 1980s, the marque was used to signify performance models under the parentage of Austin Rover Group, briefly reappearing on the MG RV8—a limited edition revival of the MG MGB sold between 1993 and 1995.
📑 The MG F was conceived during Rover Group's ownership by British Aerospace and launched after the company was acquired by German car manufacturer BMW in 1995. BMW later disassembled Rover Group in 2000, divesting the Rover and MG passenger car businesses to a management buy-out that formed the independent MG Rover business.
🛞 Beneath its sleek exterior, the MG F boasted cutting-edge technology for its era. Notably, it featured Hydragas suspension, derived from the Mini, which struck a balance between sporty handling and ride comfort, enhancing the MG F's nimble and responsive driving dynamics.
⚙️ The MG F was propelled by a range of spirited engines, including a 1.8-liter inline-four with variants offering up to 158 horsepower. Coupled with a lightweight chassis, the MG F delivered exhilarating performance, making it a delight to drive on twisty roads and expansive highways.
🏁 Swiftly embraced by enthusiasts, the MG F charmed with its sleek lines, pop-up headlights, and distinctive rear glass panel—a timeless aesthetic that continues to captivate today.
💡 Over time, the MG F underwent several updates and transformations, culminating in the debut of the MG TF in 2002, which carried forward the F's legacy with refinements and enhancements.
💔 MG Rover entered administration in 2005, halting production of the MG TF model. The remnants of MG Rover were acquired by Nanjing Automobile, and production of the MG TF resumed under the Nanjing-owned MG Motor in 2007. Despite its dated design, the model struggled to find commercial success and ceased production for a final time in 2011.
🌟 Despite the eventual discontinuation of the MG F and TF, these roadsters endure as cherished classics, embodying the essence of British motoring. Their affordability, engaging driving dynamics, and distinctive design secure their place in automotive history as iconic representatives of the MG brand.

SAIC TAXIDERMY SOCIETY
Tumblr media
Not sure if I ever properly announced it here but my friend and I started a Taxidermy Club at our college! We got some funding for some fun events like owl pellets and bug pining. A behind-the-scenes field trip to the Field Museum. But for regular club meetings, we are trying to think of interesting things and activities. Right now for our next meeting, we're having a sort of show and tell (touch?). I'll be bringing in a couple of different specimens for everyone to see. While having a slide show discussing different things like pelts and skulls.
Trying to come up with fun topics for the club to discuss without turning it into a bit of a lecture, does anyone have any ideas?

When MG changed hands to China's SAIC back in the Aughts, eyebrows raised for sure. Back then, tiny hatches that fell into the "aggressively OK" category were the order of the day, as was the old MG TF sports car, of course. But nothing the company produced seemed to justify the endless MG branded swag you could buy on the internet(..)
Then, in 2022, the MG4 arrived. It was based on a new purpose-built EV platform with a look that meant it wouldn’t blend in, respectable ranges from sensibly sized batteries, acceptable performance and, perhaps most importantly, a keen price point. It was something of a breath of fresh air. Its rivals were all more expensive, though more familiar. That wasn’t enough to protect their market share.
If you head to certain bits of the United Kingdom, the MG4 is absolutely everywhere. Stand on a street corner and you’ll likely see at least a handful in no time at all—private cars, fleet drivers and Ubers alike.
Not only do normal people like it, scruffy journalists like it too. It’s won a raft of gongs for being, as the cliché goes, a ‘lil bit Goldilocks. After so much love has been heaped on it by various colleagues, I figured it was time to give it a go(..)

On December 5th, Shiran told SAIC’s lawyers that she wanted to initiate a formal process to investigate her claims against Yi. Just two days later, Yi created the new final assignment that the lawsuit claims targetted Shiran.
The assignment showed two groups of pictures. In the first group, were images of “depictions of genital, physical, verbal or sexual abuse, violence and trauma incited [sic] on children and youth.” It includes a drawing of an Israeli father telling his son he is a “bad boy” in Hebrew.
The second set of images show Israeli soldiers being violent to Gazan families, including one of a soldier smiling while pointing a gun at someone and smiling.
A photo included in the lawsuit that a SAIC class was asked to respond to.
The lawsuit alleges that the “sudden creation” of the assignment and selection of several images about Israelis “was a transparently deliberate effort to further harass and isolate Shiran, who had just days before requested a formal investigation into Professor Yi’s discriminatory behavior.”
Rabbi Resigns From Harvard’s Anti-Semitism Advisory Committee: ‘Ignoring Jewish Suffering Is Evil’
Although the second set of images were withdrawn from the final assignment after Shiran told SAIC’s attorneys she would seek emergency legal relief, Shiran claims she continued to face harassment and retaliation from Yi.
On December 18, Yi wrote to the class to apologize to students who felt their “learning was compromised” after the second part of the assignment was withdrawn. She added that she would “very much appreciate” if students wrote to the department chair about their perspectives, according to the lawsuit.
The suit also accuses Yi of adjusting the courses grading standards to “increase the weight given to peer evaluations and feedback, class participation, and collegiality among classmates.” It added that the change harmed Shiran’s grades.

Another image Shiran was asked to respond to for her final assignment, according to the lawsuit.
“I am determined to shed light on this issue, not just for me but for everyone who faces discrimination,” Shiran said in the press release. “I believe publicizing my story is crucial to raising awareness about the recent upsurge of antisemitic discrimination in higher education institutions and more broadly.”
Shiran plans to continue studying at the school, which offers a world-class education in art therapy, according to the New York Post.
Shiran’s lawyers declined to comment further than their press release.
When requesting Yi to comment, The Daily Wire received an auto response claiming she is not available to respond during winter break and that the response is an effort “for an anti-capitalism & anti-ableism practice Inbox.”
