I don’t know if you saw, but Eddie Izzard is doing a two-week run at the Chicago Shakespeare theater doing a one-woman show of Hamlet. I know you’re a big fan, so I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss out!
HOLY FUCKIN' SHIT
I didn't think she'd be back in Chicago for honestly years. TICKET ACQUIRED. I'm going on Thursday!
I wish there was a non-creepy way to inform her that there are very few shows for which I break my embargo on Chicago Shakes. And, having taken THREE TRIES to buy the ticket, I see their box office is still just the pinnacle of high-quality customer service...
ANYWAY very excited and thank you VERY much for the heads up!

"you can't identify with amoral characters. no good story follows villainous people. the villains always have to be punished in the end-"
Chicago is the longest running musical in Broadway history, and the protagonist:
- cheated on her husband
- killed her boyfriend for trying to leave her
- showed absolutely no remorse this whatsoever
- was fine with her husband taking the murder charge for her even though he didn't do a single thing wrong, plus she cheated on him multiple times before and after the murder
- manipulated her husband into paying for all her legal fees and then divorced him
- pretended to be pregnant in order to exonerate herself.
and then she lived happily ever after.
also almost everyone in Chicago is a murderer, a sleazy lawyer, a con artist, or a sensationalist reporter who sees murder as entertainment.
but it's been playing on Broadway since 1975, and it'll endure far longer than your Hays Code ass sugarplum gumdrop ass stories with your squeaky clean morally upright protagonists and your buttery toilet plunger wielding antagonists.

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I'll be in Chicago for the annual C2E2 comic and pop culture convention! I'll be there all 3 days from 1 to 4 at the NATIONAL CARTOONISTS SOCIETY booth and I am beyond excited! That said, this strip is the beginning of what I HOPE will be a really fun little 3 week story arc. If you're unfamiliar with my PAST work, that sneaky little guy at the bottom is Dandy Q. Dog, the star of my previous webcomic, Dandy & Company. He's been a bit indignant since his strip was canceled, so for the next few strips, he's taking over while I'm away. Hope you enjoy. ;)

chicago has so many of its flags everywhere, more than any other city i’ve ever seen, that i wouldn’t blame an international visitor for thinking that chicago is some kind of semi-autonomous city-state within the united states. even at o’hare airport, how most international visitors would first see chicago, there are an equal number of american flags to chicago flags.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
plus the flag and its symbols are also literally everywhere, from anything local government related to restaurants to dog collars to flags hanging from people’s houses. does anyone else in the world go this hard about a city flag?

They have turned the Palestinians into actual Guinea pigs for the military industrial complex.
We will see the robots and miserable remote controlled dogs at the next big BLM protest on American soil soon enough.

sometimes when I see you dummies insisting that all protagonists need to be squeaky clean perfect paragons of morality, I think god ... they'd really hate Chicago, the longest running musical in Broadway history.
it's really funny because Chicago is such an obvious satire, and most of the characters are clearly not meant to be taken that seriously, it's darkly comedic and wry and sarcastic...
and it's been on Broadway for a long fucking time.
but if it was released today, you yahoos would be screaming how dare it focus on a MURDERER and insist that MURDER is ok???
and that the American justice system is WRONG?
disgusting.
also it has a lot of titties and sexy women in lingerie, which is obviously a filthy sin, so.
I'm so glad Chicago came out a long time ago, because it's my favorite musical.
and I am also a murderer.
I feel so represented by Chicago.

It was a really, really good political news day today in the US (4/4/23)
For anyone who hasn't heard, not only did Trump get arrested, but also:
-We found out that the legal case against him in this prosecution (stormy daniels hush money case) is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than people had speculated. Like, wow do they have receipts.
-In fact, the evidence was so entirely there that the new question on prime time news (well, at least on msnbc lol) is "Hey, why didn't the federal courts prosecute him for this already???)
-Trump FAILED UTTERLY in his attempts to rally mass protests and demands for "death and destruction" if he was arrested. There was no violence at the arrest at all, and as for Trump supporters? They failed to show up in any kind of numbers--reportedly only about a hundred people were protesting the arrest
-We (aka Judge Janet Protasiewicz) WON what is widely considered to be the most consequential election of 2023, a Wisconsin state supreme court election that handed control of the state supreme court to the left
-Because of that election win, it is now extremely likely that abortion will be legal in Wisconsin, and that Wisconsin won't be able to throw out electors in the 2024 presidential election
-ALSO bc of this, Wisconsin, the most gerrymandered state in the country, will probably get nonpartisan, accurate maps, which COULD FLIP THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES in 2024
-In Chicago, Brandon Johnson, union organizer and former teacher, won the election for mayor, in a decisive win progressives, esp for meaningful criminal justice reform and investment in mental health (whereas the other guy was campaigning on hiring hundreds of new cops and being super tough on crime)
