That whole scene was a parallel to Mountain Glenn in v2. Except that back then, Weiss, Yang and Blake were the lost ones, while Ruby was the one who was sure of who she was and wanted. Now, Weiss, Yang and Blake have found themselves... And Ruby is the one who's lost and confused.

I’ve always seen the end of v3 as the start of rwby. V1 to the first half of v3 is all very important prolog

For me volumes 1 and 2 are the calm before the storm, the first half of volume 3 gives us hints of what's to come, and then the rest of volume 3 is, well, a trauma bomb.

oh. my. word. imagine this:

Jaune finds crescent rose, and he finds it breaking. the blade dull and fracturing, the gun system jammed, the handle worn out and breaking apart.

he picks up the weapon carefully, and just so happens to angle it so that he is staring at the blade. a glint of light - and then ruby is there, a child of 15 again, smiling at him like there is nothing wrong with the world.

he blinks, shifts his grip a bit. the blade shatters, jagged pieces of metal falling to the ground at his feet. he kneels, grabs a piece, holds it up.

and he sees the leader he has come to know. he sees his friend, and she is broken.
