Season 1 Summary and Character Introductions
You find yourself in a corn maze, following the sounds of rustling among the corn as you approach an opening. The corn sinks into the ground immediately and almost like a pop-up book, trees and bushes rise from the ground. Their wood is purple and the leaves are black. The only thing familiar is the deep green of the grass on the floor. As you take one more step forward you see a house pop up in the distance and follow the path that takes you there.
Upon walking in, you come across stairs and shelves that tower over you. This was a workshop, and it was busy. Books flew overhead before putting themselves back into their place. Tiny wax men were hauling Potions and herbs up small ladders to higher shelves. The one thing that interested you was the gentle humming in the distance.
As you followed it, you walked through a small hallway to see a woman sweeping and humming to herself. As she noticed you, she smiled and let go of the broom, which continued to sweep itself. You followed her as she lead you to the front desk.
???: Hello, sweetie! Welcome to Wonderland. Why don't you have a look around?

Season 1 Summary
A few years ago, two people went missing. Flora Grimrose and Elodie Ravenswood. To Azrael, Flora was a friend, and Elodie was her sister. To the rest of the party, Ruby Goldcrest, Crimson Valdex, and Manea Grayson, Elodie was also a friend. After they had disappeared, a search was sent out. They looked for over a month, to no avail. A week after they called off the search, they were declared dead. A funeral was held for the two, but none of the party could give up on them. After the funeral, you all met up. You discussed what could have happened to Flora and Elodie. Azreal was the key to this conversation. If there was a pattern in the two's actions, maybe they could find out where their friends were. Azreal notes that they went out together the night they went missing. So, they start from there.
Over the next 5 years, the party found traces of magic. They learned their own spells and began practicing magic in their own ways. Crimson found he could control and help plants grow, Ruby found that her specialty was in time manipulation, Manea sought out answers and realized they could see the future, and all the while Azreal tried to sort out their feelings, they too found they could feel other's emotions. While practicing magic, they found different ways to communicate with Elodie, which gave them hope. They traveled to other dimensions and fought off demons to find their friends. Eventually, they found the perfect spell to take them to Elodie and Flora.

Ruby Goldcrest
Name: Ruby Goldcrest Age: 25 Pronouns: She/They Introduction: Heya, the names Ruby Goldcrest! I like a lot of things like cooking, writing, and reading, just to name a few. I've got cool time powers and stuff! I can't really go forward or backwards but I can pause and slow it down. Not as cool as time travel but I make do. If you were to ask for my opinion on the disappearances, the whole thing kind of messed me up a bit. And by a bit, I mean a lot... Especially after the search was called off and the two were concluded dead. It uhh, took me a while to get back into the swing of things before I continued searching with the others. Player introduction: Haiii !!!! My name's Octave (Tavi, pronounced Tay-Vee, for short) but I'll also accept Neon if we're close online friends. Warning- do not follow me I'm really fucking cringe (by that I mean I'm hyper-fixated on South Park AND Hiveswap) I draw???? I guess??? Like I don't draw actual full pieces often. I also don't know how to talk to people so yeah that's all.
@neonsquidz and https://twitter.com/neonsquidz?t=es2U7wqGt6fT-OeaZIMY3A&s=09 are Tavi's socials and they use any (prefered they/them) pronouns as well as any neopronouns.

Manea Grayson
Name: Manea Grayson Age: 24 Pronouns: They/Them Character Introduction: Hi I’m Manea Grayson I enjoy Stargazing, photography, painting, and Acting. My power is that I can see into the future although it has to be at night, under the moon. I'm only able to see it through flames although those around me can’t see it. The closer to a new moon it is the farther I can see into the future I can’t see everything though and I can’t choose what I see but it’s still helpful. My opinion on the disappearances? Well, I don’t really think it’s like those two to just disappear without saying anything to anyone, and especially with how long they’ve been gone it’s really worrying. I miss them and am hoping they're ok. Player introduction: Hello! I’m Dusty the name ‘Dusty’ comes from a bit of an inside joke that just ended up sticking. I like Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, drawing, writing, and just hanging out with my friends and getting into Shananogins. My current project of mine is a Rise of the tmnt alternate universe called "Back to the Past au" and I’m working on it with two other friends.

Azreal Ravenswood
Name: Azreal Ravenswood Age: 20 Pronouns: She/Her Introduction: Hey there! My name is Azreal Ravenswood. I like to draw and write! With my power, I can feel other people's emotions but I can't choose whose emotions I feel I just feel the emotions of everyone around me. It's a bit overwhelming sometimes so writing and drawing help me calm down! When Flora and Elodie went missing I was confused and upset with everything. I had a bad attitude and a short temper and tried to deny it even though I knew it was true. Player introduction: Hi! My name is PastelGum! I like to read, write, and draw just like Azreal.
https://www.wattpad.com/user/Aku_Miyabi_Asrahttps://www.tumblr.com/gayemohoe and https://www.quotev.com/Suki72497 are PastelGum's socials and they go by they/them pronouns.

Elodie Ravenswood
Name: Elodie Ravenswood Age: 26 Pronouns: She/her Character Introduction: ¡Hola! ¡Bienvenido a la casa de la magia! I'm Elodie, your host, and I will be sharing with you the most wonderful and wonderous parts of Wonderland! I'm bilingual since most humans who live in Wonderland speak Spanish. Mic and his family taught me it in the five years I've been waiting for my friends. Not much else to do when you're desperately trying to get back home, am I right? Anyways, my power is through the cards. I can see anything the cards see, and recently I found that I can communicate with others through the cards. Almost like a walkie-talkie! Oh? Do you want to know my opinion on the disappearances? That's silly to ask me, I was the one disappearing! Though... to be completely honest... I miss them. I miss Crimson and Manea... And especially Azreal and Ruby. Player introduction: Hi there! I'm Chris, I'm the one that created this amazing world and all the lore that resides in it. I play one of the main, mysterious characters and the party's childhood friend, Elodie Ravenswood as well as all of the other NPCs. I hope you enjoy this amazing world I have set up as we watch the story unravel into what I think will be an emotional rollercoaster for both my players, you, and me!
@pasteloctoz and https://www.quotev.com/Crazypasta are Chris's socials. He uses He/They pronouns.

Crimson Valdex
Name: Crimson Valdex Age: 24 Pronouns: He/Him Introduction: Hi! I’m Crimson Valdex. I’m 24 and like to garden. Whether it be Planting Fruits, Vegetables, or just any plant in general! I can understand them, they’re all different in personality, accent, and voice. And they even do things for me if I ask! Also no, I can’t full-on control them it’s like asking someone to do something like “Yo, bro I forgot my keys in my car! Could you go grab them for me please?” even though you’d be locked out of your car they still did it for you because you asked them nicely. My opinion on the Disappearance? Oh, I just think it's odd that Elodie and Flora would just disappear like that, including with zero traces, and if you're asking yeah... I miss them. Player introduction: Greetingz! Im CD. And before you ask yes “CD” as in “Compact Disc”. A reason as to why I chose CD is because I have a CD collection consisting of mainly KoRn. I'm a huge fan of KoRn and genuinely if I had the chance to go to one of their concerts id go, no questions asked.
@r3dcd is CD's Tumblr and he goes by he/him pronouns.

Updating the next few (by that I mean like- 10) uploads for my @theevernexusrp acc queue and GOD the 9th and 10th uploads are my favorites.
We only upload every week, so those are coming in 6-7 weeks, but Jesus, it was gay.
The best part of roleplaying with your friends is that you get to make a canonical gay ship with your gf and just be gay in character.
Spoiler Alert: Ruby and Elodie were supposed to get married before everything happened. High school sweethearts they were.

Winnall Moors, Winchester: A special place
Precious moments shared with Roe Deers watched with glee beside the paths, the wall of spring birdsong and the pure purple and white comfrey that adorns the reserve immerses me in natural glory.
On a bright winter’s day I cherished the splendour of watching Kingfishers dash and dive, ethereal blue and orange. On a bright spring day I was bewitched by the complex and tuneful call of the Garden Warbler, getting exhilarating glimpses of this bird. I could have jumped for joy as I saw a Water Rail at the water's edge from the bridge. Tit species, Goldcrest, the energetic and uplifting call of the Cetti’s Warbler, strong views of exotic looking Jays and the immersive winter spectacle of charming Redwings are other avian highlights. Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Red Kite are roving raptors which are splendid to see here, I’ve enjoyed precious views of perched Buzzards. Other wonderful warblers, Robin, Blackbird, Wren, Mute Swan, Mallard and Moorhen other birds to enjoy here.

Butterflies bring bursts of colour in the spring and summer and on sunny days into the autumn, precious Peacock, ravishing Red Admiral and gorgeous Green-veined White and Gatekeeper some of the standouts. Orange Tip and Speckled Wood are good to see here too as are a stunning Scarlet Tiger moth and Hornet Mimic hoverfly. A dazzling and mighty Golden-ringed Dragonfly captivated me in the summer and in autumn the pond was brimming with dragonflies, especially ruby Common Darters with actions of reproduction observed with bold Migrant and Southern Hawkers a treat to see too.

Seas of Michaelmas daisies adorning the reserve signals the approach of autumn. White deadnettle, woundwort and forget-me-not are other little floral gems of the site and resplendent hemp agrimony paints the site pink in summer. Water mint, purple loosestrife, herb-Robert and ragged Robin are other beautiful flowers to see here. Guelder rose berries bring a rich red colour. There is always an immense sense of tranquility as I enter this reedbed paradise. The reedbeds full of energy in the summer and eerily lit by the sun in winter months. The inspiring trees and River Itchen are a sweet natural embrace.

Campfire soups, an unexpected snowfall, and the question of whether some things are better off left alone
What’s the best way to deal with an unexpected winter storm? Piles of warm, cozy blankets, piping hot tea, and yummy soups. To be honest, it wasn’t like we really had anything planned outside, not with how cold it’s been lately. Getting all nice and cozied up in front of a fire is my ideal way of spending these long and often freezing winter days. It’s good - and I think absolutely necessary - to set some time for yourself to be a potato in the dead of winter.
Before the snow hit, I was meeting up with Lana, Michi, Hanzou, Eiko, Lan, and Ruby in Goldcrest, which is about 45 minutes from the camp. They were helping out someone over there, and Daisy Jane and I got sort of involved too. Basically, someone wanted to confirm the identity of a missing person, so Connie asked Michi to handle the case since he’s a detective. So he recruited Hanzou, Eiko, and Lan to help out since they happened to be there. And by chance, the requester, had also hired Lana, which was why she finally received a break in the case after all these years.
Then Ruby asked to tag along as she happened to have some connection with the missing person, though not in a good way, and she needed to warn the others about what they were getting themselves into. In other words, the ending is not what everyone expected and since then, it’s been on our minds. It’s just one of those things where nothing really gets resolved and its completely out of our hands. I can’t help but feel a little let down, but sometimes things just don’t work out and you just have to leave it as it is.
About 25 years ago, Blaire’s younger brother Ricky ran away from home. Blaire said he left out of guilt after accidentally causing a fire in the house. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but the second floor of the house required extensive repairs. Being the youngest out of eight, Ricky was often left out, often unintentionally. After getting into a lot of trouble because of the fire, which involved him using a soldering tool unsupervised and leaving it unattended, he probably thought the family would be better off without him.
Because of the repairs going on in the house, Ricky was going to stay with his friend in the meantime. Ricky used that opportunity to escape by telling his friend’s parents that he was gonna stay with his brother instead and having his friend cover for him. With everything being sort of hectic and all, by the time the family realized that Ricky was missing, he had already left the country with an infamous con artist known as Ash.
As for how Ricky ended up with a con artist is a bit of a long story according to Blaire. The year before, the family had a run in with an elderly man who caused quite a bit of trouble by trying to break in. Once they realized that he wasn’t dangerous, just somewhat senile and very lonely, Blaire and her siblings insisted that their father not press charges. Since he had nowhere to go, the family let him stay for the winter. Then after that, they made some calls and got him in contact with some old friends in a city a couple hours away.
It was by chance that the old man was featured in the newspaper on an article about a charity event. When Blaire’s sister noticed the clipping hanging on the fridge was missing after Ricky disappeared, their father immediately took a bus to Ornament Beach. By then, Ricky had been missing for a little over two weeks.
They later found out that Ricky did arrive at Ornament and asked about the old man’s whereabouts, only to find out that he passed away not too long ago. The one who informed him was a friend, the con artist Ash. According to the locals, Ash took Ricky in and it wasn’t long before they were causing trouble. Ash was known for being slick, which was why he often got away so easily. After taking Ricky in, he became more daring with his scams. Eventually, their troubles began catching up with them and so they fled.
Since then, there was no trace of Ash and Ricky. The family was told that it was unlikely that they could be found, especially if they left the country and changed their identities. Blaire held out hope that something would come up, as did her father. She said the family fell apart when Ricky disappeared, though she felt the bad luck really began with her mother’s death months before. Other misfortunes that later followed were her older brother’s failing marriages, her oldest sister’s unexpected death, and her younger brother’s legal troubles. Blaire considers herself lucky that she’s led a relatively uneventful life.
After years of searching on and off with no luck, it was Lana who finally got something. She didn’t want to get Blaire’s hopes up, but it seemed like a lot of things were adding up. To confirm her speculations, she reached out to a local guild in hopes of finding more information about the mysterious individual who might be Ricky. When she found out that he might be troublesome, Lana got concerned, which was why she felt that she needed reinforcements just in case. Given what we uncovered about Ricky and what he’s been up to, I think she made the right call.
Michi and Lana were able to confirm that Rick and Solace are the same person. Ash had trained him well in the art of being a master con artist. Although it’s been years, Blaire felt very strongly that Solace is indeed her brother, nothing how much he resembled their father. I imagine that it was hard for her not to walk right up to him, a thought she said crossed her mind many times while tailing him. Obviously, doing that would end up causing unnecessary trouble. Michi, Lana, and Ruby have dealt with con artists and scummy people, and they know from experience that people like Solace are on a different level.
About 10 years ago, Solace had been living in Marippe. When Ruby heard about Michi’s assignment, she really hoped that she was wrong when she saw his picture. Beryl understandably didn’t want her to tag along but she had to confirm her suspicions. It wasn’t easy for her - and she absolutely didn’t have to. However, Ruby didn’t want Blaire and her family to get hurt if Ricky did indeed turn out to be Solace, especially once they find out what he’s been up to.
Just as we dreaded, Solace was more than just a con artist. Ruby said she never forgot the faces of her kidnappers, the guys who were intent on turning her into a child prostitute. She and her brothers were living in the streets after their mother died, so they became street performers in order to survive. They later caught the attention of some noble who was later convicted for human trafficking. He took Ruby and her brothers in, spoiling them with lavish gifts and insisting that they were like his own children. And then he turned on them by selling Ruby to a friend, another noble who had a thing for young girls.
Ruby obviously didn’t go into much detail, but she recalled that the man had a couple companions with him. The younger man stuck out to her as the man referred to him as inexperienced and eager to learn, which is ugh. It didn’t take long for Ruby to figure out what was about to unfold. Thankfully, before the noble got his hands on her, the authorities came rushing in. She didn’t recall what happened after, though she suspected that the young man and his companion likely fled. If they stayed in Marippe, she would have heard something about them.
Hearing Ruby’s story was more than enough to make Blaire reconsider. Yeah, that’s a horrifying experience. I’m glad that she managed to escape, but even if nothing ended up happening, that kind of thing scars you. What is wrong with some people? If someone I grew up with ended up like that, I don’t know what I’d do either. It’s one of those things where once you find out, you can’t go back and now it’s ruined.
And not surprisingly, there’s also circumstantial evidence that Solace is involved with human trafficking. Lana and Michi have their sources, so let’s just leave it at that. Blaire was understandably in shock and kept going back and forth on whether or not she should tell her family about what she uncovered. Like I said, I really don’t know what to say or do. Maybe it’s one of those situations where trying to get closure does more harm than good.
I wish I could say we were able to help Blaire out, but sometimes things are just left hanging in the air. She said she needed more time before deciding as it’s not something you can just casually tell your folks. Like, how would you even start? “What’s up guys? Good news, I found our long lost brother. Bad news, he’s a fucking creep who scams people for fun and forces young girls to sleep with him.”
I think I agree with Ruby when she told Blaire that the brother she once knew as Ricky no longer exists. Maybe it’s better off to say that he died a long time ago - it beats telling the family what kind of person he became. The family’s suffered through so much, the last thing they probably need is even more pain. Blaire said Ruby’s got a point, though it’ll be hard for her to lie to her family, especially to her father. Again, it’s a difficult call to make, and it’s ultimately up to Blaire to decide what she wants to disclose to her family.
Eiko, Michi, and Hanzou fully agree with Ruby while Lana’s kinda on the fence. It makes sense for her to be the kind of person who cares about getting the truth out, even if it’s hard to accept or could potentially cause more pain. Though she also agrees with Ruby on her reasoning, she feels that maybe telling the family that Ricky died is going a bit too far. But again, maybe it’s better off for the family to think that so they can move on.
Despite how things turned out, Blaire thanked us for helping her out. Even though the truth was difficult for her to accept, at least she was able to find out what happened to her brother. She also reassured us that we shouldn’t feel bad and that in a way, she did find some closure. As for the rest of her family, she obviously needs time to figure out what to say, if she decides to tell them.
Lana and Michi are used to cases ending sort of anticlimactically without a clear conclusion, but they still can’t help but feel inadequate sometimes. However, like Blaire said, it can’t be helped. Sometimes you just have accept things as they are and resist the urge to look into it further, especially when it’ll cause more problems down the road.
Although the whole thing’s still on our minds as we can’t help it, at least the snow’s helping us as sort of a distraction in a good way. This is one of those times where I don’t mind chopping a bunch of veggies as the repetitiveness is quite relaxing. Not mention that the end product - soup - is always worth the effort.
Potato soup is always my go-to when there’s a lot of vegetables that need using up. It’s hearty and filling without it being too heavy, especially since the recipe I loosely follow doesn’t use cream. I specifically looked for a dairy free recipe so I wouldn’t have to use cream and cow’s milk. The recipe calls for soy milk, but I don’t usually have that on hand, so oat milk works. Of course, the texture won’t be the same, but I actually prefer that as it’s still creamy, but not too heavy. Also, the recipe dairy free, but I really only use the recipe so I can make the roux part, so I add cheese and butter, as well as any other veggies I have on hand. It really is a versatile recipe, which is why I often make it.
Since the special fireplace we have holds three pots, we made two other soups. Hanzou, Eiko, and Lan wanted to recreate a seafood soup they had in a restaurant they visited not too long ago as we happened to have all the ingredients on hand. Since they’re pretty sure the restaurant uses a lot of MSG, the taste isn’t exactly the same, but they felt like they did a pretty good job of replicating it. However, they did have to cut down the spice level, so Hanzou made some tweaks to the recipe to make up for that, which Eiko said improved the recipe. It wasn’t hard to put together, just a lot of prep work, and it turned out good.
The third soup we made is more of a stew that kinda combines two recipes. Ruby and Lana came up with the idea to combine them, so it was sort of experimental as we weren’t sure how it was gonna turn out. The reason for that was because they had a recipe in mind, only to find out that we were lacking something. And since both recipes were kinda similar, they figured it won’t be a bad idea to combine them. That’s how we got this hearty meat and veggie stew that’s perfect for a cold winter evening.
Along with making soup, we’ve also been doing some knitting. I’m starting the Traveler’s Cardigan and the wool yarn is so soft and nice to work with. Ruby and her brothers finished their cardigans from our knit along and she brought it with her to show me. She’s very happy with how it turned out, especially since it’s her very first garment. Her brothers also finished their cardigans and she showed me pics. The Epiphany crew also finished theirs not too long ago, as did Connie and Pai and Eloise. I’m happy to say this first knit along was a success!
As for the follow up, we agreed on the Traveler’s Henley tee. I’m still working on finalizing everything, so it’ll be a while before we get started as I want to make sure everyone who’s participating have all their supplies. I’ve extended the invitation so it’ll be much bigger, which means it can be a bit hard to manage. Again, it’s not finalized, but along with everyone from the first knit along, we’ve now got at least 20 more participants, which is exciting!
I never expected it so turn out so well, and that’s kninda making me nervous. And with a turnout like that, I obviously have some projects in mind for future knit alongs. I don’t want to just limit ourselves to garments, so I’ve been looking into accessories like hats and scarves and maybe shawls if anyone’s interested. I don’t wear shawls so I don’t know if I’m interested in making one, but I’ve seen a lot of people make them and they look nice. Socks, I’m iffy about since I’ve never done them before, and I’m afraid it’ll put off the beginners. But obviously, that can change as time goes on.
For now, I’m fine with basic patterns that still keep things engaging so it won’t bore those who are more experiences while not be too intimidating for those who are still learning the basics, which is what this group mostly is. Thankfully, there’s a lot of patterns out these days that can easily satisfy knitters of all skill levels.
Lan also gifted us with tea from Danyang Village, which is known for their pu’er tea. I’ve been really into black tea lately, so this was perfect! Ruby happens to be a tea aficionado and is curious about Yuexing’s tea. While she’s traveled Yuexing Harbor a few times for missions, she has yet to visit Danyang. Apparently, Connie and Pai have yet to visit Danyang too despite being well acquainted in Yuexing Harbor.
According to Lan, it doesn’t really make sense location wise since Danyang is closer to Marippe since it’s up north while the harbor’s more to the southwest. Ahen again, Connie somehow decided to take the long way by traveling from northern Adrikha to Port Maritoise in southern Marippe rather than the more conventional route of Danyang Village to Petrichor, which is a much shorter route. Not to mention that Petrichor is much closer to the city than Port Maritoise.
Then again, if Connie and Pai hadn’t gotten lost in Port Maritoise, they wouldn’t have run into Ruby and Beryl, and later Eloise, Fontaine, and Lady Roselyne. So either way, it all worked out in the end. Though for an experienced adventurer, Connie is said to be somewhat unreliable when it comes to navigation. There’s taking the scenic route, and then there’s Connie doing whatever. Hard to believe that it won’t be long before I hear about their escapades in Sazona and Melovka!

I made a new blog!
Hey there! I made a new blog solely to share a roleplay that I have been crafting with my friends. It is settled in the wonderfully wonderous land of wonderland (say that 5 times fast). The four main characters have been looking for their two friends that went missing 5 years ago. They had gotten in contact with their friends only a few times since then, which is why they still held out hope. While they journeyed to find their friends they found that magic was real and explored their own special abilities. Then finally, they found the spell that would change everything. The problem is, it takes them to Wonderland. Now they're trapped and have to find a way to get out while dealing with some other problems within the realm.
We haven't posted Chapter One yet, though we posted a summary and meet the characters/cast section so I hope you'll check it out! Here's the blog:
(reblogs are appreciated, I want this to get to as many people as it can!)

19th February 2024: Day off at Blashford Lakes and Lakeside Country Park
Photos taken in this set are of; wonderful scarlet elf cups at Blashford Lakes which I was hoping to see ruby gems of the late winter woodland floor, a Lesser Redpoll there one of my first of the year which was thrilling to see, rose hips at Lakeside, sunset at home this evening, Great Crested Grebe and Wigeon which we got fine views of from the Ivy south hide at Blashford Lakes, Kestrel at Lakeside a star there today and beautiful views at both locations including lovely blossom. There was a nice theme of my favourite colour red in my photos today.
My first Bittern of the year giving a sensational view as it flew across in front of the hide was another extraordinary natural moment this long weekend for me taking my bird year list to 136 (only last year's list - my highest ever in total - was on a higher number on this date which is amazing) and it was nice to see a Bank Vole at the woodland hide another great mammal seen this year. Kingfisher, Pochard, Teal, Pintail, Red Kite, cheery emerald Greenfinches and Siskins, Goldcrest, primroses and Cetti's Warbler heard were other highlights at Blashford Lakes. Red Kite, Long-tailed Tit, Wren, Green Woodpecker, Greenfinches, Magpie, Tufted Duck, Moorhen, crocuses and Chaffinch heard also stood out at Lakeside. Blackbird in the garden, five Great White Egrets and a Little Egret by Romsey on the way home seen from the motorway which was unprecedented and forsythia in flower on the hedge out the front were other good moments today. An phenomenal wild and nicely relaxing long weekend.

12/11/2022-Fritham in the New Forest and bits at home: Part 1 of 2
I had a lovely walk from Fritham today towards the Cadman’s Pool area today through rolling scenery of open heathland and a lovely bit of woodland. It was such a great landscape to immersed in on an extremely sunny day, the autumnal lowering sun lighting the scenes of the walk brilliantly. There were lots of scenic bits of water on the walk too regular ponds and puddles. It was amazing to take in the breathtaking hilly scenes with birds twittering making a nice soundtrack. This summed up the tranquility of the walk. Birch, pine, oak and others with many trees painted in red, orange and yellow autumnal colour were lovely to observe this afternoon. It was nice to realise a bit we were walking in appears to be the bit of heath visible whilst driving into nearby Eyeworth Pond it’s always good to see how parts of the forest link. It was so good to see endless blue skies today and it was unseasonably warm. I took the first two and fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth pictures in this photoset of views here today.
Holly with ruby berries as the first and also a closeup of it the fourth picture in this photoset show and emerald leaves dominated the walk looking stunning in the bright sunshine and against the blue sky, and bits of bright yellow gorse in flower and a little bit of purple heather brought rich colour to the walk too. It was nice to see a mushroom as well.
There were a good selection of birds seen on the walk, Stonechat of course a cheery forest stalwart. Hearing and seeing a couple of Meadow Pipits fly over the heath, a stunning Goldcrest and pleasing group of Long-tailed Tits at the end of the walk stood out too. I also saw a nice Robin, Blackbird and a few Woodpigeons with a possible Redwing at one point flying over too. It was good to hear Chaffinch too. New Forest ponies wandered elegantly through the landscape and looked beautiful beside the pond. I took the third picture in this photoset of a couple by the pond from the other side of the water. I also saw a Grey Squirrel and some insects this afternoon.
At home earlier as well as on the way home by Brook in the New Forest I loved seeing Buzzards well, and at home as well as Starling seen well again the ninth picture in this photoset shows one I was very pleased to see hear loudly then see Long-tailed Tits in the garden again after three weeks ago they flitted in the buddleia this time and seeing the group and possibly hearing others in the New Forest made it a standout bird today. It was also good to take in potent autumnal colour in the lovely sun out the front and back this morning I took the tenth and final picture in this photoset of a view out the front, and as well as enjoying the nice bright red geraniums, hebe and fuchsia in the garden on the way out get the surprise of seeing the viburnum flowering a key sight of spring. This has certainly been a strange natural year with things flowering at unusual times, with that and the temperature it felt more like April than November at times today. I also enjoyed a nice flying insect seen intimately at home tonight as it flew towards me and a couple of beetles seen at home.
Part 2 of today’s posts with ten more pictures I took today is here: https://dansnaturepictures.tumblr.com/post/700745754777681920/12112022-fritham-in-the-new-forest-and-bits-at

08/03/20-Hawkhill and Eyeworth Pond in the New Forest
Another short walk today with Ruby recovering from the Adder bite at Hawkhill. After torrential rain on the way, and before some more in another shower travelling from here to Eyeworth Pond a quick call in and look on the pond, we walked out here on a gloriously sunny patch of the day. I took the first five pictures in this photoset of landscapes at Hawkhill. With all of this my mind turned to rainbows and whilst I didn’t see one today I remarked again at the sheer amount I have seen this winter. I think this is notable because it’s showed there have been so many days this winter where the weather has been so unpredictable, you could get four seasons in a day and sun has so often been shining in rain and/or against dark clouds.
Usually in this part of the country during winter for the most part it’s not like this as days are either totally rainy, totally overcast or refreshingly totally sunny. Whether it’s due to this being a mild winter, climate change or if the two are interlinked it’s certainly made this winter different.
It was nice after leaving Hawkhill to travel a long way across the forest to Eyeworth Pond and take in the great New Forest scenery in mostly sun either side of the shower whilst listening to music in the car. A great sense of us going for a drive in a beautiful area sort of which I haven’t had for a long time. When we arrived at Eyeworth Pond it was great to watch and photograph some water and woodland birds in more strong sunlight. It was a case of three delightful ducks as we watched a Goosander excitedly as it came so close to us I took the sixth and seventh pictures in this photoset of it. I also took eighth and ninth in this photoset of a lovely male Mallard that came so close with its head looking nice and blue in this gorgeous sunlight. I also spotted some Mandarin Ducks at the back and one swimming closer to us on the shore too. I took a distant picture the tenth in this photoset of a male and female Mandarin Duck a star species of this place.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: (Hawkhill) Two of my favourite birds the Buzzard and Great Spotted Woodpecker, Stonechat, Long-tailed Tit, Goldcrest, Wren, Woodpigeon and I heard Robin. (Eyeworth Pond) Mandarin Duck, Mallard, Goosander, Moorhen, Canada Goose, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit, House Sparrow, Dunnock, Blackbird and Roe Deer. Travelling in between these locations it was nice to see Magpie and Jackdaw in the New Forest.

29/02/20-Blog 2: Pig Bush in the New Forest
With Saturday and Sunday similar weather wise it was a toss up between going here and Blashford Lakes today. We went with here and it was interesting to arrive in sunny conditions as shown in the first picture in this photoset that I took today but see black clouds forming which only resulted in a quick shower during our walk around wood and heath here. The area was very wet around though with the little river that has a bridge crossing it which we often wade through a little practically trebled in width and depth as the second picture I took here today in this photoset shows. I also took the third picture in this photoset in the second clump of woods on the walk with a dark sky behind.
What had driven us to come to Pig Bush was as we often do within the first third of the year look for the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker there the bird me gloriously spotting in April 2014 and then we saw again in the exact spot in the woods in March 2017 has become part of our personal birding folklore. With fruitless searches for this bird here the last two years but we saw so much else I figured are we supposed to see it every three years and each time the month reduces by one with February the most famous month for them. So much so that I had seen so many Lesser Spotted Woodpecker sightings and photos on social media lately I felt I was meant to come here today.
In a splash of sunshine still I enjoyed looking up at the trees where I knew the woodpecker could be to the backdrop of a bright blue sky when we got to the clump of trees we’d seen the bird before. I did see a bird called lesser in these woods today ... as a couple of flocks of Lesser Redpolls were a delight to see. We saw some in the initial area and confirmed it was them and then followed a flock through this big woodland. We got some stunning views of them on the sand/mud/grass path on the ground which I really found memorable. I took the fourth picture in this photoset of some here today. I enjoyed exceptional moments watching this divine finch. It was my first sighting them this year. One of my star birds for sure of a 2 month old 2020 on a long list. Not one I will always see in a year either.
Indeed with me intending to visit Blashford Lakes tomorrow this bird would have been a key target a key species there so I felt great to have secured this bird today, in a mild winter Lesser Redpoll wouldn’t have been a given at Blashford actually. But Blashford Lakes and I think in another bird feeder based part of a reserve London WWT were the only previous places I have seen this species. So this is the first time I’ve seen this bird out in the middle of the New Forest a place so good for them. I am proud Pig Bush was this place for me it’s such a class birding spot in the open forest. It was definitely the most Lesser Redpolls we have seen together before.
We then walked on moving through the trees as the sun reappeared fully after the brief shower to a boggy area with Jack Snipe another bird I needed and had seen here before on the mind. On the way I took the fifth picture in this photoset of my dog Ruby. I need to take so many pictures of her in the coming weeks as she had battled lymphoma for just over four years but now she has a large tumour so her days may sadly be numbered. I took the sixth and seventh picture in this photoset from the area we headed to. As we looked I said it only takes a second to see a Jack Snipe darting by and within a minute or two of that we saw one fly up then quickly go down. We did see it fly up another couple of times though and got top views of it in the binoculars. As it flew around in the sun it was perhaps my best ever Jack Snipe views. On a day the 29th February I knew only two of my previous year lists have had I knew this morning that for the second month running my year list was the highest amount of birds I had ever seen compared to other years at the end of the month. But this took me to 134, three ahead of the 131 birds I had seen at the end of February 2018 and seven ahead of what I ended February on last year which I am pleased with.
We then walked back via the woods to the car, where I took the eighth picture in this photoset of another key species seen at different points today the Treecreeper, the ninth of a Buzzard flying over and the tenth of a view of sun rays coming through the clouds and drove off in a shower. Another extremely high photo yielding day and extraordinary birdwatching day for me which I enjoyed so much today what a way to use this extra day.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: My first Lesser Redpoll and Jack Snipe of the year, two of my favourite birds the Buzzard and Great Spotted Woodpecker, Treecreeper, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Nuthatch, Goldfinch, Meadow Pipit, Stonechat, Robin, Redwing, Song Thrush, Woodpigeon and Mallard.

04/03/19-Cadmans Pool in the New Forest
Pictured: New Forest pony, Missy and Ruby my dogs, landscape and a Muscovy Duck. From the landscapes I took today, the one in this photoset and two more as posted on my Twitter Dans_Pictures about an hour ago I was pleased at how well they show the woodland in the area. Pictures in trees or of trees are ones I don’t find as easy to take as say heath or water pictures, but they are such an important part of nature and life on earth and habitats for wildlife that I have such a love and respect for them so it was great to show that a bit today in an area so rich in woodland and I feel I have done a bit this year too.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: One of my favourite birds the Buzzard, Mallard, Muscovy Duck, Mandarin Duck, Canada Goose, Blue Tit, Nuthatch, Chaffinch, Robin, Stonechat, Goldcrest, Lapwing (a couple flying up over a marsh possibly in nesting areas) and many Mistle Thrush.
For many reasons this long weekend has been one of the best weekends of my life. Friday was the packed wildlife and photography trip with many photos produced and some amazing birds seen, and Saturday outside of my hobby that these accounts are dedicated to I had an exciting time at a football match. Then it looked like two too wet days to really do anything special the next two but I had a late moment of magic out yesterday and today had a similar late surge in taking photos on a showery walk and it ended up being a great walk.
Thanks for all your interaction during my time off again. The next day of annual leave I have is 22nd although I am dog sitting all weekend. As I said I have some past photo tweeting and Tumblr posts across the three days to celebrate 10 years of me getting into photography then. In a change to what I posted previously possibly those Tumblr photosets will now post Sunday evening. I may have garden bird and sunset pictures that weekend though. Then the 28th and 29th I am off for another long weekend with another football trip the Saturday of it actually so no photos or sightings on that day but I hope to be out the other three, as my last leave until June when we intend to go to Northumberland and all the epic moments that should bring. I hope you all have a fantastic week.
