more headcannons to add to the pile:

ocean is the only member of the choir that doesnt have her ears pierced because shes scared to death of needles

mischa is banned from the only wafflehouse in uranium for reasons he refuses to explain

noel and ocean made a pact in like middle school to get married if neither of them were married by the age of 30

neither mischa nor ricky are allowed on aux under any circumstances because theyll play nothing but badegg and undertale fan songs respectively

mischa walks around in a t-shirt and shorts in the middle of canadian winter, hes just immune to the cold for some reason

ocean sorts all her stationary in rainbow order, she will explode if they get messed up

noel and ocean get into arguments about the best taylor swift albums constantly during choir

ocean is a lover and fearless stan for life an noels favorite is reputation

constance doesnt even try to make her case for speak now

one time she did and both of them turned to her in sync, yelled "no!", and went back to fighting

penny casually brings up her trauma in the middle of conversions and proceeds to leave the rest of the choir speechless (“oh yeah like that one time i got my entire family and friends arrested in a police raid on our drug commune” “the WHAT”)

ocean has a bunch of sapphic romance books hidden under her bed even though literally no one but her goes in her room

noel was a theatre kid but was banned from all school performances after the nativity incident so he started taking art instead

constance is the same height as (if not a little shorter than) ocean but always wears platforms so ocean ends up being the shortest either way

everyone in the choir needs glasses just to varying degrees most of them just dont wear them for reasons ranging from "yeah thats understandable" to "WHAT THE FUCK RICKY

penny hates pants with all her heart and will only wear shorts or skirts no matter how cold it is outside

constance hates pants almost as much and will wear shorts all the way up to like december

mischa refuses to close any of the apps or tabs on his phone and it literally dies quicker than he did

ocean loves cats but cats hate her, if they dont kill her from allergies, theyll start scratching the shit out of her (she cant be within 500 ft of the potts household without dying on the spot)

noel literally had to lock penny and ocean in the choir room together for them to confess to each other

it took them 2 hours

the others were just outside playing cards the whole time

mischa taught ricky poker during those 2 hours and ricky absolutely wrecked him every single round

mischa rage quit after the 5th time he lost in a row

the piano in the st cassian music room (/choir practice room) has been horrendously out of tune for longer than anyone can remember and no one bothers to fix it (ocean tried once but failed miserably and probably just made it worse)

So I’m seeing choir redesigns/reference sheets are all the rage right now. I’ve been wanting to make one of these for a while now and I figure now’s the time to throw my hat in the ring and show everyone my two cents on the St. Cassian Chamber Choir of Uranium City, Saskatchewan :) I couldn’t help loosely basing these off of the 2016 version, but I didn’t follow that to a T so a lot of this is my own spin. (more info/hcs under the cut)

Mischa- I hc that he is into body mods. He stretches his earlobes and has facial piercings and tattoos and no he won’t pull up his pants

Noel- a red streak in his hair, Connie did it for him. I like to imagine he has amber/honey brown eyes and some piercings in his ears

Ricky- short king lol, a bow tie cause I thought he’d look cute in one. I love his curious and observant nature. I also gave him magenta crutches, vivid like his imagination C:

Constance- cutie pie sweetheart, pretty purple nail polish because she deserves it!! Loves loves loves purple accessories.

Ocean- . . . She smol. I hc her the shortest and smallest in the choir. Tons of freckles, wavy hair. Could totally be picked up and carried under one’s arm like a loaf of French bread.

Jane- Dolly’s head took some damage in the crash so she’s a bit cracked up. Dolly head is sorta like, magically sized up and stitched on? Just sorta. Levitates

Penny- I like to picture her with curly hair like her brother, Ezra’s. And of course, she must have the greenest eyes.

choir asl hcs bc im in an asl class rn

Ricky and his family use actual asl and not "their own made up sign language"

Ricky teaches the choir asl (shenanigans ensue)

Penny picks up on it the quickest, as she's the one who spends the most time with him.

Mischa takes about as long as she does to learn, maybe a little longer to become fluent (he's really good at learning languages)

Ocean takes the longest and it frustrates her so much because she's always been the best at everything and everything has always come easy to her... except for this thing which is vital to the communication between her and Ricky

Constance has an asl tutor because she doesn't get the hang of it easily, the choir (minus Ricky) meets with the tutor each Wednesday at the Blackwood Cafe to sharpen their skills, but Constance sees her every day until she doesn't need to anymore.

Noel makes a competition out of how good he and Ocean are at asl. she hates it but it's all in good fun, and Noel isn't actually making fun of her for learning slower than him.

Ricky just loves that his friends are doing this for him. He knows it's the bare minimum, but after spending so long without people to talk to it's nice to have people who care about him.

Ocean apologizes to Ricky for not learning sooner, and they have a heart to heart about what it means to be a good friend and how Ricky is proud of Ocean for trying now and making up for lost time and also about how he forgives her for not making more of an effort in the past.

Most of the choir still talks to Ricky and mainly uses their knowledge of sign to understand what he's saying, but Penny will actually sign without speaking a good chunk of the time. It can be more comfortable for her and it makes Ricky feel a little more "normal" to have some who also doesn't speak around him.

Mischa and Ricky sign to each other in situations of need. Usually Mischa will pass Ricky in the hallways and if some kid is bothering him he'll sign to him, asking if Ricky needs backup or just someone to walk with him that isn't an asshole.

Noel and Ricky sign to each other when they're in class and sharing answers or passing secrets and jokes.

Oh, here comes the spacedolls hcs:

Penny asks him out in asl, Ricky tries not to cry

Ricky will sign "i really love you" to her at random times and she just melts

They sign really fast and so when the other choir members or other students walk past they're just telling elaborate stories to each other and their hands will basically be wavy blurs. It can be hard for the others to keep up but it's really cute to watch the two of them just beaming and signing to each other all the time.

because i'm bored: here's what i think about the characters of ride the cyclone!

ocean o'connell rosenberg:

definitely was a huge snob. in my language, we call those kind of people "maldita" HAHAHAH

she sounds so much like a high school bully that it's hilarious... but also, i feel like she was bullied in elem and was consequently also mean in highschool? idk she gives me that energy

DEFINITELY the kind of person to love legally blonde and mean girls and just projected it onto her persona LMAOO

though she's probably really very much a big softie once she developed at the end of the musical, but still hides it behind her bitchy and rude exterior

she looks like she would take someone's phone and squint whenever someone shows her a meme, like the way a mother would

noel gruber:

mean gay. that's it.

it's canon that whenever he's nervous or uncomfortable, he picks on his nail polish! and i love that! he's just like me fr!

i think the thing he really wanted was just a life outside of his simple one when he was alive... and i think monique gibeau was his drag persona

that said: NOEL DRAG QUEEN AAHHHH

feels like he would be more reserved because he's trying to look normal because of his mom yk, so he probably didn't have many friends outside of the choir (who weren't very close to begin with, judging from the way they talk in the beginning of the musical)

but besides that, he wants to be FLAMBOYANT and FEMININE and i love him

mischa bachinski:

iconic. stole boxes of communion wine for his eight year old cousin because of birthday. im in love with him.

sorry to noel, but he's the REAL most romantic boy in town. nothing compares to the way he sings about talia as if he couldn't live without her. get yourself a man like mischa.

probably loves ridiculous memes. would laugh at them for so long and show everyone in the choir

i think he doesn't actually watch horror movies but watches analysis videos on youtube about them like i do.

when he actually watches horror movies, he squirms around and does all of these weird movements and noises to cope with the fear 😭 not outright scream though, he's too emasculated /j

ricky potts:

he is an oc writer just like me. i love him for that.

was most likely into warrior cats as a kid, obviously marvel comics and star trek too. no way he wasn't.

he mooost likely didn't want to be in the choir in the first place but ocean forced him in it, based off his reaction to ocean trying to get people to like her again after singing about social darwinism 😭

that said, he's just like me fr... using escapism as a coping mechanism for his lonelines... i love you ricky and and your sexy cat ladies from zolar

and actually, i think he's one of the most underrated characters apart from constance which is such a SHAME...

he's so nerdy and JUST LIKE ME FR!!!

i think that before his hands degenerated, he was an artist. not a good one, but enough for people to recognize it!

jane doe:

creepy... i love her...

and i think that she's really good at crocheting, to add onto the whole doll aesthetic. makes tiny sweaters for ricky's cats, probably made a phone case for constance made out of wool... no matter how inconvenient it was

i think that noel would've painted her nails black too because she deserves it!!!

anyway, her and ricky are the "the bad bitch i got thanks to my autism" meme definitely. going both ways

anyway her actor's voice always sounds like an opera singers it's so impressive! that's why i believe that she can actually sing opera if they ask her to

but i feel like they'd still be close, despite that yk? best friends always stick together and as ocean develops more i think that they'd get closer until they're literally the only two who knows the other better than themselves

OH and i think that constance would've loved writing fanfic... she just has that kinda energy yk? she and noel would bond over writing and they'd talk about what they write and constance would hesitate because she doesn't want to admit that she writes gay fanfiction on ao3 😭🙏

» ricky wishes he never joined the choir. although he loves them, ocean kept babying him pre-cyclone and it was really patronising and uncomfortable when he just wanted to sit at home and fantasise about zolaria

» ricky is some kind of asexual (possibly cupio), and he discovered sexuality at a young age

» rickys parents were ashamed to have a disabled child after long-awaiting a son. he has 2 older sisters, and they are 7+ years older than him as their parents suffered several miscarriages/complications in attempts to conceive a boy

» his parents also saw the amount of ableism in the world, and locked him away to protect ricky as soon as they found out he had a degenerative disease as they thought he would be too mentally fragile for the world (incorrect, physical disability is irrelevant to mental disability). as a result, he never made friends until he joined the choir

» after his parents acted as if ricky was a baby for 16 years of his life, they pushed him out into the world suddenly by recommendation of his doctors, and joined the choir. due to this, he had no social skills and struggled to make friends within the group.

» ricky spent a year in the choir just going and listening to them sing. he found it boring, and spent most of his time imagining worlds within vocal lines and instrumentals. then, savannah joined the choir and, although ricky could never speak to her, he felt they had a connection due to their statuses as outcasts within the group

» whenever savannah talked, most people either ignored her or just let it go through one ear and out the other, but ricky made sure to listen to her every time. he saw savannah as human, and could never understand why the choir couldnt

» in the accident, ricky knew it was unsafe for him and savannah to get on the ride(sixth sense) and tried to persuade ocean that he shouldnt go. however, ocean just bullied him for being childish and he went on anyway with the carnies encouragement/permission (the carnie was tired after his shift and wanted to go home early, so he was trying to avoid an argument)

Theatre kid Jason Todd headcanon:

His favourite character in Ride the Cyclone is Mischa Bachinski

Mischa is Ukrainian, his mother died due to radiation exposure because she was part of the clean up crew in Chernobyl. Before she died, she faked his birth certificate to say that he was 2 years old and gave him up for adoption. The people who adopted him were NOT happy and put him in the basement, leaving meals on top of the stairs.

That's how the bad boy persona started, how he became the angriest boy in town.

He also says he has two traits: Aggression. And Passion.

He is anti-classist (but he still has a song about his rich power fantasy to cope with life)

One of the main characters is saying that he's "going to jail, guaranteed", playing into prejudice and bias due to him being a refugee who has a gangsta persona and loves rap.

"Just 'cause I'm all gangsta don't automatically make me homophobe!"

Bonus: They almost have the same birthday! Jason's being 16th August and Mischa's being 18th August

elaboration on the designs + some hcs under the cut (it’s a long one folks!)

Ocean: she/her, lesbian, aroace-spec; her hair is naturally a Fucking Curly Mess, so she straightens it out, sprays it, and uses a headband and hair-clips; Ocean always has a pencil behind her ear in case she needs to write something down, but she always forgets she put it there; she has a coat on her waist because a long-sleeved shirt and a vest is not enough. she must not feel an ounce of cold.

Noel: he/she/they, bigender, gay; his hair is also a Fucking Curly Mess so he just puts some gel on and prays to satan it works; Noel tries to tone it down like his mother told him so he doesn’t wear pride merch to school or anything, but he does wear black earrings and black nail polish

Mischa: he/him, bisexual; I basically tried to make him look like the type of person my mom would point at in the street and go “that’s what satan does to a person!!”; Mischa constantly looks like he’s been hit by a bus, he says it’s because he gets into fights, but he’s just a fucking wreck; backwards hat, bi pin and star of David pin because I saw @lemon69lol’s post and have decided that Jewish Mischa is canon now; Ukrainian flag phone case!!; Ricky bought him these BRIGHT neon green crocs for his 18th birthday and he wears it every day (Noel wants to shred those fucking crocs);

Ricky/Savannah: any pronouns + neos, genderfluid, bisexual, demiromantic?; I gave them the neon space cat headphones and crutches as always, but I added spikes to the crutches so my guy can kick some ableist ass, and an AAC device because of an art post THAT I CAN’T FIND! if someone has that one drawing of Ricky with an AAC device strapped to his crutch tell me because I want to give credit to the artist but I CAN’T; genderfluid + any pronouns pin; shoes that aren’t matching and a dress over pants because fuck the dress-code

Jane Doe: she/they/it/doll, unlabeled; I have no idea where this design came from but, Jane with X eyes, I guess; I think I was originally basing her off of Spinel but fuck, what do I know?; doll is based on my Emilia Jane Doe

Constance: she/they, demi-girl, sapphic; I tried to make her hair resemble Trinity Constance because I ADORE their Constance!; hoop earrings and braces because I said so; rainbow socks because she’s fuckin’ queer; colorful band-aids for reasons I will not be telling you, sorry

Ride the Cyclone Kids Playing Kickball

idk i thought it was a silly little thing to make headcanons about

BOYS VS GIRLS

Ricky is the referee

Noel: hey, wait! it’s two against three! that’s not fair!

Penny: we have Ocean on our team

Noel and Mischa: that’s a good point, that’s a good point

Ocean, standing two feet away: >:0

In Penny’s defense

Ocean’s got lizard legs

Girl is NOT strong and definitely not athletic

Her kicking leaves a lot to be desired

BUT she is very fast! And she’s small, so she is nimble

When she actually manages to kick the ball a good distance without it going out of bounds or being caught, she will SCURRY to the base

(They only have one base so they just run back and forth basically)

She ALWAYS the pitcher when her team is in out field because 1) she can’t run for shit and 2) can’t catch for shit

Also Noel has no right to judge Ocean. he is JUST BARELY better than she is.

Constance has terrifying accuracy when catching the ball after it’s kicked

“Take her glasses away” -Mischa

Mischa keeps kicking it OVER THE FUCKING FENCE

Obviously he and Penny are kickball GODS

They can kick the ball SO FAR

And they’re SO FAST

One time, Constance stopped to get some water, Noel kicked, nailed her in the back with the ball, and she spit it out everywhere

Mischa smashed straight into a tree while running to try and catch the ball that Penny kicked

Brother was WINDED

He peed blood for three days after that because he knocked his kidney real hard (but he kept playing anyway, what a trooper)

Ricky let out the most shrill squawk after he almost got taken out by the ball when it flew straight for his head (Ocean was the one who kicked it. she wasn’t even aiming for that direction)

Poor Ocean once was sent TO THE GROUND because Mischa accidentally threw the ball directly at the back of her head while she was running to the home base

Girl was SNIPED

She was literally laying flat, face-down in the grass like

Everyone was FROZEN

Mischa was in SHOCK

Hand over his mouth and everything

They thought he had fuckin killed her because she didn’t move for a minute 😭

She was fine, though!

One time, the ball got stuck in a tree, and they all stood around said tree like 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️, just looking up at it

They tried to get it out by throwing their backup ball at it

The backup ball got stuck, too

“I’LL GO GET A BROOM!!!” -Constance

Meanwhile, Penny is already clambering up the tree like a goddamn ape

Noel watches on nervously from the ground, worried that she’s going to fall and bust her ass

Mischa tried to throw the broom up into the tree to get the balls down

Broom got stuck 😭
