If I wait to make proper pictures they'll never get shared so here's some of what I've been working on. I may only be two chapters deep into paint the sky but I've been doing a shitton of worldbuilding behind the scenes. Jimi's evolved beyond the sorta " regular jack-off" POV they were meant to be, so I've been making some additions to the universe.

Megaera "Meg" Millian aka MEGADEATH - Assassin turned lapdog. owns one (1) braincell. Nobody knows how she got here. April Fools joke bit me on the ass

#369 "Onyx Ankara" - One of the earliest and longest surviving Gears and one of the few mfers Charles can trust in this mess. Actually a lead in logistics, supply, inventory and transportation. Onyx fills in a plothole I've long agonized over – how in the fuck did Dethklok not completely fall apart while Charles was dead? Now we know. Jalacy Sabrina Tharpe-Cornickelson - Roy got a little bit close to one of the widows of a Dethklok-related accident and got himself a new wife. Jalacy had a pretty okay relationship with her new step-dad, until he got turned into ground meat by supernatural and human forces. Pretty much forced to become a nepo baby in the wake of the apocalypse and a desire for Crystal Mountain Records to have some fresh talent as their faces. And I haven't got work for her yet but I'm also developing Shayla Puss, an artist from the 80s band Strawberry Pain that Pickles once collaborated with, based on this clipping from the show!

Arthur se gara devant l’hôpital. C’était un petit hôpital dans un petit village sur les côtes anglaises. Il n’était habitait que par quelques centaines d’habitants, il n’y avait que quelques commerces, une école et cet hôpital. Mais Arthur vit tout de suite qu’il s’agissait de ce genre de village dans lequel il faisait bon vivre.

Il inspira profondément et entra. Cela faisait deux ans qu’il attendait ce moment. En comparaison à tous ces siècles où Merlin l’avait attendu, deux ans c’était peu de temps. Il se souvenait parfaitement de cette journée où il avait revu Merlin.

Dans ce monde-ci, Arthur s’appelait Dean et était devenu policier. Il était passé à la criminelle depuis un an. En devenant policier, il voulait faire changer les choses. Il voulait un monde plus juste et protéger ceux qui en avait besoin. Ce jour là, il était sur le point de résoudre une affaire, mais les choses s’étaient mal déroulées. Le suspect avait essayé de s’échapper et lui avait tiré dessus. Il sentait que la mort approchait et il était terrifié. Il ne voulait pas mourir, pas maintenant, pas comme ça. C’est alors qu’il sentit une présence près de lui. Des mains se posa sur sa blessure pour contenir l’hémorragie et il entendit une voix qui lui disait :

« Ça va aller. Tu vas t’en sortir Arthur. »

Pourquoi cette personne l’appelait Arthur ? Il ouvrit péniblement les yeux et tout ce qu’il voyait était flou. Il pouvait distinguer une silhouette au-dessus de lui et il devina qu’il s’agissait d’un homme, mais il lui était impossible de voir les traits de son visage. Il l’entendit murmurer quelque chose qu’il ne comprenait pas. C’était comme s’il parlait une langue étrangère. Étrangement, Dean savait que tout allait bien se passer. Il ferma les yeux et tout devint noir. Il s’était réveillé dans un lit d’hôpital deux jours plus tard. On lui avait expliqué que son hémorragie avait pu être contenu grâce à un inconnu. Sans cet homme, il ne serait plus là.

C’est alors qu’il avait commencé à faire des rêves étranges. Ses rêves se passaient dans un monde moyenâgeux et fantastique où la magie était courante. Il voyait toujours les même personnes. Uther, Guenièvre, Morgane, Gaïus et surtout Merlin. Il s’agissait de noms familiers dont il avait étudié les histoires il y a des années lorsqu’il était au lycée. Mais ses rêves semblaient beaucoup trop réels pour n’être que de simples rêves.

Il avait fini par comprendre qu’il s’agissait des souvenirs d’une vie passée où il avait été Arthur Pendragon. Il n’en avait parlé à personne. N’importe qui le prendrait pour un fou s’il déclarait être le roi Arthur. Au fil des siècles, la magie n’était plus visible aux yeux des humains, la plupart n’y croyait pas. Lui-même, avant de retrouver ses souvenirs, trouvait cela ridicule. Son véritable nom, ainsi que ceux de sa famille et ses amis, étaient devenus des personnages de légendes dans lesquelles de nombreux écrivains ont écrit. Mais au final, aucun d’eux ne savait ce qu’il s’était réellement passé. Personne ne le connaissait véritablement où ne connaissait Merlin.

Au fond de lui, Arthur savait que l’homme qui l’avait sauvé n’était autre que Merlin. Alors il avait enquêté pendant deux ans. Il avait fini par retrouver sa trace dans ce petit village. Il était infirmier et se faisait appeler John Smith. Dans cet endroit, avec un nom aussi ordinaire, il était sûr de passer inaperçu.

Arthur se dirigea vers l’accueil. Il demanda à voir John Smith et il attendit dans la salle d’attente. Il ne pouvait pas s’asseoir, il était bien trop nerveux. Il faisait les cents pas. Il avait presque envie de rire. C’était bien la première fois qu’il était aussi nerveux à l’idée de voir Merlin. Mais des siècles s’étaient écoulés et après lui avoir sauvé la vie, Merlin avait tout fait pour ne pas être retrouvé. Arthur fut sorti de ses pensées lorsqu’il entendit des bruits de pas derrière lui.

« On m’a dit que vous vouliez me voir. »

Arthur se retourna. Merlin écarquilla les yeux avant de se reprendre. Cela avait duré à peine une seconde, mais Arthur avait vu la surprise dans son regard.

« Bonjour Merlin. »

Arthur dut se retenir de rire devant l’expression de Merlin.

« Que… Je…Pardon ?

-Je me souviens de tout. Mes souvenirs sont revenus lorsque j’étais à l’hôpital il y a deux ans. Tu étais là. C’est toi qui m’a sauvé. »

Arthur sourit.

« Comme toujours. »

Merlin sourit jusqu’aux oreilles. Il n’avait jamais été aussi heureux.

« Ça fait tellement longtemps que j’attends ce moment. »

Merlin s’approcha d’Arthur à grandes enjambées et le prit dans ses bras. Arthur passa ses bras autour de lui et le serra contre lui. Ils s’écartèrent légèrement et s’embrassèrent. C’était comme si plus rien n’existait autour d’eux. Comme si le temps s’était arrêté et que les siècles qui les avaient séparé n’avaient jamais existé. Ils n’étaient plus John et Dean. Ils étaient redevenus Merlin et Arthur. Ils savaient que désormais, plus rien ne pourrait les séparer.

Il y a des siècles, Arthur était mort dans les bras de Merlin et s’était à nouveau dans ses bras qu’il était entrain de revivre.

Summer 2023 Anime Wrap-up

Original post:

So honestly, this wasn't an especially good season. I'm not watching most of the popular things that got sequels, so all I had as an anchor was Mushoku Tensei. Thankfully the trio of Undead Girl Murder Farce, My Blissful Marriage, and Zom 100 were able to carry the season through to something resembling a soft landing.

New Stuff:

Higeki no Genkyou to Naru Saikyou Gedou Last Boss Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu. (The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior) - The main character getting everyone to swear to kill her if she turns evil would be a lot more understandable if it seemed like she was actually in any danger of turning evil. Overall a pretty straightforward implementation of the Villainess setup, mostly interesting for not really being a romance at all. 6/10

Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu (My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1) - By any standard, this is Baby's First Isekai. I mean that nearly literally, it even has a "this time on" each episode. The setting makes no sense until you think about it, at which point it makes even less sense. Somehow it found a way to be another Isekai With Guns and made all the problems worse. Still, I finished it I guess. 6/10

Liar Liar - This was a Making Bullshit Rules Up As We Go Along show, but it had a fun tsundere and a nice aesthetic. The story and production values didn't back this up enough to make it good, as such, but sometimes you just want some delicious garbage, and this had me covered. 6/10

Seija Musou: Salaryman, Isekai de Ikinokoru Tame ni Ayumu Michi (The Great Cleric) - This season's budget isekai: I died working my ass off at an abusive company, so when I reincarnated I decided to... keep working my ass off! Featuring: OK but fuck privatized healthcare though. Not good in absolute terms, but I had a good time anyway. 7/10.

Undead Girl Murder Farce - This was fun! It could have gone several different ways based on the first episode. It turned out to be a crossover fanfic where I Can't Believe It's Not Oshino Meme, a saucy deadpan maid, and a head in a box fight with and/or against the headliner mystery- and supernatural-adjacent popular characters from the Victorian era, plus some mythology of its own. 8/10

Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (My Blissful Marriage) - This was a pleasant surprise. At first it seemed like it would be a vapid Cinderella-alike, but it turns out our shoujo love interest has a day job as Roy Mustang. Give it a shot if you don't mind a bit of a slow start. 8/10

Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha (The Dreaming Boy is a Realist) - This got a whole post. Basically a problematic anime with a genuine heart. 6/10 and 9/10 at the same time - call it 7/10.

Sequels:

Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2) - We're back baby! I appreciated the time skip letting them update Rudeus's character design. I'm really pleased with how this is progressing, and fully understand why it was the progenitor of the modern isekai boom. 9/10

Tonikaku Kawaii: Joshikou-hen (TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You - High School Days) - Oddly seems like it just stopped in the middle? Maybe they were getting ahead of an arc that's getting a proper cour later. 7/10

Horimiya: Piece - Watching this right after the main Horimiya anime, I enjoyed getting the side stories but also understand why they got cut in the original adaptation. 8/10

Carryovers:

Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou II (The Misfit of Demon King Academy Ⅱ) - This made a lot more sense the second time around. It's weirdly fast and suffers from too many characters syndrome, but it's still good fun. 7/10, though barely.

Continuing:

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan (2023) - It's Rurouni Kenshin again. Ongoing.

Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) - Finally, someone making a zombie show got access to colors other than grey, brown, and red. The bright aesthetic and energy reminiscent of No More Heroes made this the best new show of the season. If you have ever had such a terrible job that you wished the world would end instead instead of you having to go to work the next day, this is for you. It's been pushed into the next season for scheduling reasons, but unless it faceplants somehow it's 9/10.

Dropped:

Synduality: Noir - Alas, this lived up (down) to my expectation of being not very good. There's just kinda... not much going on. The action isn't good enough to support the poorly conveyed plot. Dropped at episode 4. 5/10

JItsu wa Ore, Saikyou deshita? (Am I Actually the Strongest?) - It kept almost showing promise but ultimately fizzled out. Not even enough anime tiddy to justify itself. Dropped at episode 7. 5/10

Shiro Seijo to Kuro Bokushi (Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence) - While this was cute and comfy it ended up just being boring. Dropped at episode 8. 6/10

AI no Idenshi (The Gene of AI) - I thought I was going to watch this after the first episode and then I just... didn't. Dropped at episode 1, no rating.

Helck - The would-be shonen of the season turned out to be a big meh. I was struggling to keep engaged with it, and when it made the most obnoxious and anti-useful character the team mascot I had to eject. Dropped at episode 8. 6/10

Il ouvrit les portes de la grande salle où se trouvait la Table ronde. Arthur était là. Il lui tournait le dos et se tenait devant la table. Merlin se trouvait idiot de ne pas avoir pensé tout de suite qu'il était ici. Après tout, la Table ronde était le symbole du changement. Le règne d'Arthur avait commencé autour de cette table. Il était normal que le roi ait voulu se réfugier à cet endroit. Merlin avança vers lui.

« Arthur, dit-il doucement, presque dans un murmure.

-Que veux-tu Merlin ? »

Arthur ne s'était pas retourné, empêchant Merlin de voir son visage, mais il pouvait entendre le trouble dans sa voix. Après toutes ces années passées auprès de lui, il connaissait par cœur toutes ses intonations. Quand il était agacé ou en colère, Merlin avait souvent fait les frais de cette colère. Quand il était était joyeux ou quand il était triste. Merlin se plaça à côté de lui.

« Je suis venu voir comment vous alliez. »

Le regard d'Arthur était fixé sur la Table ronde.

« J'avais besoin de me retrouver au calme. »

Arthur inspira profondément avant de parler :

« Je ne serai jamais le roi que mon père voulait que je sois. J'ai essayé. Mais il y a longtemps que j'ai compris que je ne suis pas lui et que je ne le serai jamais. Et je ne regrette aucune des décisions que j'ai pris depuis que je suis roi. Mais malgré tout, l'entendre dire qu'il désapprouvait mes choix et à quel point je le décevais... »

Il se tut quelques secondes avant de rajouter :

« Et lorsque j'ai soufflé dans la corne, c'était comme si je le tuais une deuxième fois. »

Merlin ne dit rien. Il savait qu'Arthur n'avait pas besoin qu'il le rassure ou qu'il le console. Il avait besoin de parler et il serait là pour l'écouter. Il posa sa main sur son épaule, lui montrant qu'il était là pour lui dans cette épreuve et qu'il serait toujours là. Arthur posa sa main sur la sienne et la serra. Ils restèrent silencieux. C'était un silence réconfortant où seule la présence de l'autre suffisait. Merlin n'aurait pas su dire combien de temps leurs mains étaient restées liées, mais ce qui était important pour lui, c'était de donner à Arthur toute la force dont il avait besoin pour continuer à avancer.

Behind the Fic: TW:OPT - Chapter 42 & 43

I did a double update! Presenting one canon episode and one filler episode!

WARNING: This will contain a bit of spoiler for the newest chapters of my fan fiction Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure.

Chapter 42: Cafeteria Scramble!

This part, if we follow the Lion King would be the ‘Everything the light touches is our kingdom’, the morning report, and Simba-Scar interaction.

I just imagine the whole cafeteria scene is just like a small segment from Toei’s Clannad movie. Just an overcrowded cafeteria filled with bread-loving kids.

The name of the bakery was inspired from a line that Mushu (from Mulan) said: “Did you see those Huns? They popped out of the snow, like daisies!”

Accio is an object-summoning spell from Harry Potter. I just think of having a running gag of Jonah having his face slapped with various objects when Grim uses the spell would be funny.

Cheka's letter is completely improvised, along with getting back the stolen sandwich. The letter is a reference to ‘Everything the light touches is our kingdom’

Epel’s appearance here is also improvised. I’m thinking that maybe he’s an honorary member first, at least for this arc, before he officially joins us in Pomefiore arc.

"Deuce was basically swimming and jumping through the crowds like a majestic dolphin" is my favorite line in this chapter. It was inspired by the scene from the Clannad movie with Sunohara trying to buy buns for Tomoya. I just want to point that out.

Chapter 43: Days are Like Clouds that Straddle the Sky!

The title is from Tegami Bachi first ending Hatenaki Michi (果てなき道, lit. Endless Road). The original lyrics were ‘sora o matagu kumo no you na hibi’ (空をまたぐ雲のような日々, lit. ‘days are like clouds that straddle the sky’) This is such an underrated anime and a personal favorite from my childhood. Give it a try.

I think I can count this ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ part. That segment was quite a drug fest.

I also think the summary is pretty funny.

The crash Riddle mention was the same crash at Chapter 38: It’s the Same as Having Wings!

I finally found a way to put HTTYD Test Flight in this fic. Since Jonah has a new running gag with face got smacked every time Grim casts Accio, I think it’s time to make him good at flying. Hey, we get to spend more time with Riddle and Jonah. This scenario can work for Epel too, but he already has his spotlight in the last chapter.

Jonah’s broom name, ‘Roy Mustang 2003’ is a reference to the character Roy Mustang from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 version). Originally I only want to name it ‘Mustang 2003’, with 'Mustang', can be a reference to the said character or a type of car, but since I’m referencing 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist, eh, might as well go with ‘Roy Mustang’ (I have to admit, that’s a pretty cool name) you better be sure Jonah will have Roy Mustang 2009

Soft Riddle is soft I love my son okay does this chapter mark Riddle’s official fist puppy crush was it too fast?
