So I didn't mind ROE as a whole and found it mostly just dumb fun with a bit of family themes to it. But if we're gonna get critical about it then we as a fandom do not talk nearly enough about the fact that the entire story revolves around Nana having fucking quid pro quos on the shares of the inheritance money. Like am I the only one who has issues with the idea of putting weird conditional challenges on inheritance?
"Oh my dear granddaughter MC has to find love and get married by the end of the summer in order to get her inheritance owo!" Bitch what if she ends up being aro or demi??? Or is just not ready to marry yet- especially since she spent the first two books escaping an unfaithful and manipulative partner? She's the last person who would be ready to marry right away.
"My grandson please marry your girlfriend of two years in order to get your inheritance" but then the next thing you know they break up because they realized they’re a lesbian and a gay man. Or because they lost interest in each other because their relationship is a total clusterfuck.
"Party twin must hold a job for the summer in order to get your inheritance" oh yeah because that's just sooooo easy isn't it? I mean it’s not like unemployment is a major issue in today’s society or anything.
"Bookish twin has to do this list of trying new things in order to get your inheritance" and why is getting a tattoo on this list? As someone who is kinda squeamish about tattoo pen needles I would tell Nana to fuck right off, then get a temporary tattoo instead because fuck you. And if Dinesh bitches about it being a temporary tattoo and not a real one, I WILL drop kick his ass.
And this isn’t even getting into all the other bitchass challenges that Nana adds onto the first ones. Like, Nana, I get you're trying to teach the kids about family and loyalty and adventure, but some of these are the worst conditions you could put onto inheritance.
This story would have been a lot more interesting if it was about the siblings and cousin wanting to get this inheritance, but having difficulty meeting the stupid quid pro quos, and then eventually realizing and admitting that the stupid quid pro quos are indeed stupid, and then finding ways to cheat the quid pro quos.
MC realizing she's not ready for a new relationship and faking a marriage with one of the LIs. Elena and Brother realizing they're both gay and then also faking a marriage to each other. Bookish Twin finds ways around the list of trying new things, including getting a temporary tattoo. Party Twin uhhh... IDK how she's gonna fake holding a job but if it doesn't work out we'll just have her knock out Dinesh and rob the money, IDGAF. Anything that is these characters refusing to cater to these stupid quid pro quos is fine by me. And the best part is you can still work in the family themes and the cousin's arc with the evil Aunt and all that.

I dont know if Roe uses petnames but i cant stop thinking about them so here --
Their knee is pressing hard between your legs, one hand under your hip, encouraging you to rock against them. This situation had escalated alarmingly fast, you'd not seen Roe for nearly 2 weeks and as soon as you'd shut your room door, they'd been unable to keep their hands off you. Telling you to shut up as they pushed you down onto your bed.
"Alpha," It's a soft whispered moan but Roe hears it, giving you a soft questioning hum as they pepper kisses over your bare shoulder. "Please."
Roe moans in response, kisses turning into sharp little caresses of their teeth against your skin, making you gasp. You turn your head to bare your throat and their unspoken question turns into hard spoken No.
"Please," it's so hard keeping your hands above your head where they had told you to keep them, you desperately wanted to touch them. To tug their hair and hear that growled order to behave. "Please Alpha."
Roe shudders, body going tense above you. They're breathing heavily, and you hook your leg around their own, another quiet plea dropping from your lips.
"I said no," Roe pulls back a little and you keen, arching up in an effort to follow their body. They give you a strained smile, hand flat on your stomach as they push you down and hold you still. It makes your breath hitch again, their strength always catching you off guard. "Don't be a brat."
You don't care. you want to be bitten and marked, you want both your packs to know. Which is a foolish thought because both your packs definitely know but you want it official. You want to be theirs.
Roe's look softens, like they know what you're thinking, which with how well they seem to read you wouldn't be a surprise.
"Not yet sweetheart," they lean down, lips brushing over yours but pulling back before you can deepen the kiss. They grin, that sharpness back and your stomach swirls with a sudden rush of nervous butterflies. "there are other ways to mark you as mine."

It feels like Rules of Engagement as a series, but especially book 3, was specifically made for me because it’s about two of my favorite things — travel and weddings. And getting to replay it while I’m in the process of planning my own wedding is so much fun 😍

in celebration here is my roe 🫶🏼 serena’s a former nursing student/current part-time fugitive and supernatural-bad-guy hunter with a penchant for creative writing. she has a pretty short fuse these days but i think that’s well-earned! she’s stubborn and daring but diplomatic and honest (to a fault, some might say). somehow she managed a very messy love life amongst all the drama. unfortunately for everyone zillah seems to have won out.

Idk how I ever chose who MC was gonna marry when I first played RoE because I’m having such a hard time with it now. I picked the prince (Leo) the first time because of his adventurous spirit. And I feel that that’s something this MC has as well. But I love the business man (William) too. He’s so sweet and was willing to adjust his entire work/life balance so he could have more time with MC
