His eyes ...

His eyes....
Between these two pictures there are 28 years apart.
And he still has those blue expressive eyes that had helped him communicate the emotions from his characters through all these years.
Those eyes that can reach to the deepest part of your soul.
I needed to find a Charlie. But when the Brendan Fraser “aha!” moment happened, I was like, “Oh, that’s really interesting.” Honestly, I didn’t even know that much of his work. It was more just seeing his eyes and his soul. And then he came by my office and we met and we sat, and I was like, “Wow, what a gentleman, what a sweet guy who clearly, clearly has a lot to tell the world about what he can do and hasn’t been given opportunity.”
Darren Aronofsky
The magic of Fraser’s performance here lies in his marvelously expressive eyes, which are practically bulging with love, though frosted in fear that he’ll never again find someone to direct that love toward. There’s a boyish charm in those eyes, and if you look close enough, you can also sense a fighter behind them.
Los Angeles Magazine
... Fraser nonetheless manages to communicate the humanity in this character even when the film itself does everything it can to undermine his efforts. It’s the way that he uses his eyes and his facial expressions to communicate sorrow, fear, self-loathing, self-pity, hope, desperation, spiritual longing, a fake sense of joviality and a genuine sense of joy. The manner in which his eyes dart around when he’s unable to reach a key that’s fallen on the floor.
Rolling Stone
Although he’s draped in heavy layers of latex, the actor’s eyes convey subtext the screenplay can’t excavate.
L.A Weekly
But regardless of all the role’s transformation trappings, Fraser’s performance resides in his sad, soulful eyes and compassionate interactions with the characters that come in and out of his home.

i can't believe the venice film festival is "trending" on this hellsite and not a single one of you is talking about brendan fraser getting a standing ovation before the premiere of his film followed by a six minute standing ovation afterward where he broke down in tears.
that man is to be treasured.

So Sweet
rhea x reader
content: pure fluff, something cute and simple
Tumblr media
It was movie night with the Judgment Day. You had one every month, it wasn’t the same weekend but you made sure that there was one. You made a group chat so that they could request what movie and you made the list of who goes when: Dom, Finn, You, Rhea, and Damian, always in that order, no if’s and’s or but’s.
Surprisingly, you and Dom had similar movie tastes, so the two of you were always arguing over who could choose that movie for the night, and you always won. You made sure that everyone was okay with the movies chosen and even made sure everyone brought a snack.
Though you and Rhea lived together, you insisted that she still had to bring her snack, “but we can say it’s both of ours,” she would say.
“No, baby, it doesn’t count,” was always your response.
Tonight it was at your house, so you spent all day cleaning while Rhea went to the gym, to the store, dropped off something at work, and then came back to help. The two of you kept things pretty tidy so it wasn’t much work, but you enjoyed the domesticated side of it all.
You set the lighting to red and blue causing the room to be a light shade of purple, put out a lot of pillows and blankets and made sure there was plenty of room for snacks and drinks on the coffee table; they all loved the effort you put into it.
The time finally came and they showed up one by one, Finn first, then Damian, then Dom. You helped them carry in their respective items and gestured them to the drink counter and food table.
“You always make it so cozy,” Finn said.
“Yes, I love when it’s at your house, hermana,” Damian added, “it’s like a sleep over.”
“Aw thanks,” you smile wide as he gives you a hug, he always had the best hugs, after Rhea’s of course.
They help you set up the snacks and drinks before getting cozy on the couch.
You cuddle up next to Rhea with the big bowl of popcorn, then Dom next to her. Damian sits on the other side of you but Finn laid on the floor.
“What are you doing bro?” Rhea cocked an eyebrow at him.
“I get too hot next to all of ya,” he said innocently.
“Oh come on, you don’t want to cuddle?” Dom joked.
“Not with you,” he poked back.
Every one laughed in unison but let him be as you threw him a pillow and the lightest blanket.
“Alright, Dom’s choice up first,” you handed him the remote.
“Thank you,” he said with a cocky tone.
You chuckled as you rolled your eyes. He flipped through the streaming services to find the right one. He finally found it and pressed play on The Mummy with Brendan Fraser.
“Good choice,” Rhea nudged him.
“Thanks Mami,” as he took a sip of his drink.
The five of you watched the pre-chosen movies in order, laughing, crying, screaming, and laughing some more. Everything went perfectly and you couldn’t be happier to have your little family by your side.

I think what I love about the renaissance of Brendan Fraser is how fundamentally people, in general, are just so good. We saw a man who had been screwed over and hurt, and we said ‘this is our child now, and you will respect him, look at this wonderful little human, look at this humble man, he deserves the world’ and that is peak human, that is what is means to be a person, community and social support are so so so important, and look at him shining bruv

“This is your space, Tony.” Steve countered firmly, meaningfully. “Tell me how to exist in it.”
Don't mind me, just silently screaming over this.
Literally reading this chapter right now and had to stop to say something about this line.
He has so much respect for Tony’s space? I can't even? I'm not sure I can even fully explain how much of a chokehold this line has me in.
This is amazing, I'm in love.
One of the things I try to maintain across all my AUs is how the lab is just TONYS space. Everyone else has to knock, has to ask permission, even in some of my other Dom/sub or ABO AUs whatever relationship dynamic exists, inside the lab it’s always Tony’s rules.
In this AU specifically though— I kept thinking about IRL celebrities like Britney Spears or even like Brendan Fraser who have spoken up about how they felt their bodies weren’t their own, how everyone had a say in how they looked and dressed and how people touched them all the time, whether it was just to fix their hair or to actually grope at them and Britney has been very open about her meltdown being directly a result of that
And with this AU set in the 90s, with Tony being Tony and young and *coping* the way he does, I thought that realistically, he’d feel the same way? If it isn’t Obadiah telling him how to walk talk eat dress and act, it’s the press on his back every time he steps out of the house, the pressure of being a Stark not to mention how he shut HIMSELF out of the lab while grieving therefore shut himself out of the one space he could just exist in peace.
So it was just so important for this AU for Steve to openly and willingly recognize how much trust it took for Tony to allow him into his space, and then to HONOR that by doing something very un-traditional Dom-like and allowing Tony to dictate the room.
Idk. I’m rambling. But basically I’m super obsessed with that line too. I love service top Dom or Alpha Steve and I love seeing it come through in every day situations

LT Back in Action: The fight for Artistic Integrity
I feel like we've commonly identified how in Back in Action, Daffy and DJ were so obviously mirrors of each other with their ambition to go beyond their current positions to be valued by their respective peers. But I don't see people make the connection on how Bugs and Kate's dynamic seemed to serve as a representation of Bugs' balancing act of preserving the remnants of his classic personalities against the growing passage of time and everchanging censorship standards.
The movie makes many references to audience demographics, PC culture, how corporate interest stifles creatives, the fumbling upper management -- all very prevalent subjects for the looney tunes characters. But for this film's focus, we see how it affects the film's leads.
Daffy gets his suggestions shot down in the writing room, his input is undermined by the execs, and was ultimately manipulated into starring in a film without express consent or autonomy. His insistence in pursuing the blue monkey was a deliberate refusal to internalise his debilitating loss of identity after he got fired.
DJ's a secret nepo baby who -- aside from not exactly getting as much recognition for his contributions to the films Brendan Fraser starred in -- seems to be living a rather cushy life judging from the interior of his house. The ending seems to suggest that he was involved in blind-siding Daffy because of his ambition to be more than a security guard. So he was just as much a pawn.
Kate is the newbie Head of Comedy, who is absolutely miscasted for the job and is clinging on for dear life to maintain this seemingly important position by doing what her higher ups want her to do. But because her higher ups are incompetent at knowing what works with audiences -- the moment shit hits the fan, they will absolutely use her as a scapegoat.
And Bugs has to navigate studio politics to pull strings for himself, seems to be well-versed in baby-talking the Warner Brothers into submission, and has developed a far removed capacity for emotional vulnerability. This limitation in expression seems like a learned tactic as he adeptly dodges Daffy's invitations for genuine connection throughout the film. Which makes this version of Bugs particularly best identified for his emotional constipation.
What this goes to show is that these characters were able to convey the struggles, frustrations and burnout that comes with creatives in their continuous battle against the hand that feeds them. Which I find makes this movie all the more timeless, and prevalent in our modern day.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is easily one of my new comfort movies.
It's a silly, fun adventure movie featuring goofy graphics and a lot of yelling but it delivers the right nostalgia hit that I need in a bad mood.
The yelling is goofy, the CGI and Green Screen are that early 2000's bad in a way that's lovable (comparable to Spy Kids or Shark Boy and Lava Girl), the meant-to-be-3D scenes have the 'old video game graphics' charm to them (big thanks to my friend James for that perfect description-), and it's not unbearably long or too short and rushed.
Plus, there are some really good scenes. One of my favorites is when we get to see Trevor and Sean (Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson) actually mourn Max, their brother/father respectively. It's not turned into a joke or brought up again, they're just allowed to be emotional, cry, and hug which feels so rare for male characters? Especially in a movie from 2008.
I will not shut up about this movie, it means a lot to me and definitely shaped my taste in fiction and Sci-Fi and I really think more people should appreciate it.
Journey 2 however, I have a lot of very mixed feelings about

I just need to vent for a second.
More and more I'm thankful for the blogs who are not afraid to call out something problematic that Jensen Ackles says or does. I'm not looking to pile on the guy. We're all human, but when someone says something that isn't right, as a society we tend to call it out for what it is: racism, sexism, homophobia, or just plain wrong. That church abuse joke, the Brendan Fraser Whale comment, the misogynistic and homophobic comments he's made in the past are all wrong.
Can someone grow and learn to be a better human? Sure. We all do that every single day as time passes. I like to think that Jensen has grown quite a bit in some areas and has learned. But those two recent "jokes" were not okay. One is incredibly fatphobic and fat-shaming while the other is literally disregarding the hundreds of victims who suffered sexual abuse in the Catholic church over decades. Do I think that he stood there both times and thought of the bigger picture? No. I think he just said what came to mind because they're both funny to him so they should be funny to his AA's. But I think what flabbergasts me is that they were! There are still AA's traversing this site and other social media that are defending them, particularly the church joke. Saying that if we call it out for the problematic statement that it was, if we don't immediately laugh, then we're not true fans of Jensen, we don't understand his humor, there's something wrong with us, we're just looking to hate on him, and all that crap. And it's like, no, there is something wrong with YOU if you find that funny and then would even defend that. Why is it that common sense continues to elude AA's when it comes to the topic of Jensen? Is he an attractive guy? Yes. Does he seem like the perfectly wrapped package for some? Sure. Are some of these same people obsessed with him? Yep. But that shouldn't completely eradicate common sense and empathy (I'm being kind here). Can you imagine having suffered sexual abuse or knowing someone who had and hearing that had you been in that room or watched the video? Can you (general you) imagine how you would feel?
I just don't get it. The thing is, I don't hate Jensen, I don't want to pick him apart just because, I used to have massive respect for him actually until the last few years, starting with that whole "bitch Alba" machismo crap of a podcast interview (proving some of that good ol' boy misogyny is still alive and well, but well hidden). And these last two instances have left me even more disappointed but sad to say, I'm not surprised. Shocked, yes, but not surprised. I don't wish him ill and I do still hope for the best for him, personally and professionally, but he's a celebrity, an actor, another human being on the planet subject to the same laws of physics and the universe as everyone else. He may have more money than some, fame, and however much of a following on social media, but underneath all that, he's just a man, another human like any other. Born to parents like other humans, grew up and went to school like other kids, started a career like other people after school ended, got married like other people do, had kids like other people do, and on and on and on. He literally gets up every day and puts on his pants the same way as many other people on the planet do every single day. He's not this messiah-like figure for crying out loud who is above everyone else. So why do they act like he is? Why can't they see the forest for the trees? You can be a fan of his and still have common sense and live on planet Earth.
His stanbase really needs a fucking reality check. Had Jared said that, he'd be in deep shit. Had Misha or Danneel said that (and I am no fan of theirs), they'd be in trouble. Had Henry Cavil or Tom Cruise made that joke? Forget it. Canceled. Hell, if Trump or Biden made that joke, oof. So why would his stanbase not hesitate to call out any of those people had they made that problematic joke but when Jensen does it, suddenly the calling out process starts and we are immediately gaslit and made to feel ashamed for calling it out? By these very same people?
I know the answer but I just had to get this off my chest and I figured you would have the most understanding seeing as you've dealt with his stanbase time and time again. Thank you for letting me vent.
Anon 🧡🧡🧡 You expressed something I feel too and you did it with so much clarity, in a grounded, balanced, beautiful way. Thank you!
Tumblr media
It's truly creepy how distorted views become when AA's are driven by lust blindly.
I think the most heartbreaking thing in all of this is: that Jensen is buying his own hype and thinks he is above everything so he makes such jokes and feels entitled to approval. He is letting the overblown image they created be his self image and is, in many ways, just as blind as they are. This worries because it's very easy to lose balance and do stupid things when we become wrapped up in a false sense of self. I really wish Jensen had good rolemodel around him because I truly believe that if he did he would make an amazing leader. 😳
I deeply loved reading your thoughts on the way Jensen is perceived so thank you for sharing. 🧡

I hope it's okay to vent here for a second.
I was just watching the clip of him and JDM where they were talking about what they want to accomplish this year or whatever. And Jensen talks about wanting to do films, something outside the box. JDM makes the joke that he doesn't care what Jensen is in as long as he's sexy, Jensen responds with "Yeah, I don't think I'm going to do, like, The Whale. Well done, Brendan, but man, I don't think that's for me." JDM says no way and Jensen laughs and agrees, saying "No way!" Then he tries to soften it by saying he put his body through enough getting ready for Soldier Boy and he doesn't know how people Christian Bale can lose all of that weight and Brendan Fraser can gain all of that weight, it's so hard. JDM says yeah it's hard on your body as you get older and then Jensen makes a joke about how hard it is for him to fit into his jeans now.
Is he serious? That is not what you were thinking of, Jensen, and you realized you said something you shouldn't have because you immediately went about to explain (really justify) it. A lot of people are unhappy with the film, calling it fatphobic, but regardless it's still about someone who suffers from obesity and an eating disorder. Why the fuck would that be the first thing you would say when JDM made that joke about you being sexy?
This right here tells me all I need to know about him. How many people does he meet at these cons or see on the streets that are obese? Or who may be suffering from an eating disorder, obese or not? Everyone talks about how Jensen might have felt seeing that sign Alyssa made him hold up in her photo op, but people should be talking about how fucked up this "joke" was. If the film was about an obese woman with an eating disorder, I wonder if his fans would still laugh as hard as they did? If JDM would still laugh?
It's one thing to make a joke but when the film you're referencing (which earned Brendan an Academy Award for Best Actor by the way, something Jensen should respect if he can't scrounge up any ounce of compassion or empathy) is about something serious like this, don't be an asshole and don't make that joke. He's said some questionable things this past year and a half but wow, this takes the cake.
I got so disgusted after that and his "explanation" that I immediately closed out the clip. All I kept saying to myself is "what a fucking asshole". Like dude, while it's your body and you do whatever you want, no shame, you're getting botox and possibly fillers in your face. You're drinking alcohol nonstop and it's showing in your face. And you make that kind of comment? To impress JDM and your fans? All you did was make yourself look like an asshole. He and Danneel deserve each other and no wonder he and Misha get along so well. Let all three of them continue to work on whatever this alleged project is so it can crash and burn that much faster. Bullies, all of them. And they think they're better than everyone else and apparently better looking than everyone else, too. Newsflash...not so much. JDM is more attractive to me and he's older and not my type at all lol.
Jensen really shouldn't do cons without Jared anymore. Something tells me that joke wouldn't have been made if Jared was there or Jared would have somehow made it better because he always provides the compassion and empathy when it comes to the two of them, gold panel or main panel. And Jensen, JDM didn't laugh that hard, either. Even if he thought it was beyond hysterical, he knows not to show that publicly. Perhaps you should take some tips from him before you say something way worse at these cons to impress your fans who see you as nothing more than a sex object and get yourself cancelled. Stop being an asshole.
Thank you for letting me get that out. I hope you enjoy the rest of your night.
For reference, this happens in the Gold Panel starting at about 11:20.
Vent away, anon. It sounds like Jensen immediately thought of the most unsexy role he could think of, and came up with the Whale. And this is where Jensen will always fall short of the excellence that AAs expect from him. He's not willing to go the extra mile for a role. In fact, he even mentioned his ideal job would be a half-hour multi-cam because you only work about 8 hours a week with three weeks on, one week off because it's easy money. At least JDM mentioned his ideal jobs are anything with great writing.
In looking for this clip, I saw parts of the main panel, and then the Gold panel, and it just felt like a bunch of frat boy behavior from guys who are old enough to be past all that, from talking about what you mentioned, to laughing about how Jensen and Danneel got together (by cheating on their SO's), how it's best they stay away from home, their joking about drugs, and just the general vibe of the panels. It wasn't entertaining, it was watching grown men revel in being assholes.
Jensen tends to mirror whoever it is he has a panel with, which is why panels with Jared are so much more entertaining and heartwarming. Jared elevates the people around him, whereas Jensen, without Jared, tends to devolve.

Brendan Fraser's The Mummy movie: The male lead is skilled af but the female is smart and just as cool, they are a cool team, there are side characters who are helpful too, we make sure everyone is involved and we give everyone respectful amount screen time and everyone is important for the movie's plot. The Mummy is evil but he's interesting, he is respected as a great villain and it takes a lot of characters to defeat him cuz that's realistic. The movie is a fun chilly timeless classic.
Tom Cruise's The Mummy movie: Tom Cruise does everything, Tom Cruise saves everything on his own, he's a hero, he's a God, he's better than you and the other characters are here what for?

Happy Monday Rainbow,
What do you think about GG’s Sina Weibo interview where he said he wanted to watch The Whale movie which explores a bit about homosexuality?
Hi Anon!
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I am happy that he's yet again connecting himself with queer media, but on the other hand I feel sad because the movie isn't representation, it's exploitation.
I find the entire idea of the film, what it's about and how it was made totally offensive. Yet more queer misery porn, yet more fatphobia in the media. That we are in 2023 and still seeing films that employ fatsuits is utterly disgusting. That we are in 2023 and still seeing portrayals of queerness that heteronormative people can congratulate themselves for crying over is infuriating to say the least.
The Whale can join a long line of queer torture porn that we've seen through the course of decades.
Nothing about the film or its production respects the lived experience of people like Charlie. People like Charlie don't get a voice or a place of respect in our world or on our screens.
The backlash against ‘The Whale’ is telling us all something important
Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale is an act of hate disguised as tough love
From One Whale to Another: Watching ‘The Whale’ as a Fat Queer Man
‘Looking’ Actor Daniel Franzese on Why He’s “Conflicted” Over Brendan Fraser’s Casting in ‘The Whale’
“The biggest problem we have right now in our industry is that people like me and my colleagues can’t really sell movies overseas if we are actually queer because the world is homophobic,” he said. “Even if America is ready for a gay person in the lead like that, they have a hard time selling the movie overseas, so they get scared.”
These kind of depictions only further dehumanize, distort and patholigize the cultural understanding of some of the world's most marginalized, maligned and targeted people. There are real consequences for this kind of media. It causes real harm to real people, yet it continues to be produced and celebrated. 😔

Blockbusters, superhero roles make Timmy less prestigious to his fans, and would distance him from his destined Oscar win. Dune isn’t indie, but his fans view it as respectable compared to say, Spiderman. I’ve seen a lot of comments that still managed to bring Tom in for comparison and tear him down as usual (even while their angel’s rep and character is in the midst of being mocked and discredited daily). It’s really unfortunate. Yes, I’m biased cause I’m a fan of Tom’s, but I can acknowledge his talent without trashing Timmy and acknowledging his as well.
Tumblr media
Well, if that's how his fans think, then they are seriously projecting their own limited, and rigid beliefs on what an actor is. 🙄
That's their own personal problem.
Actor Brendan Fraser, the one who JUST won Best Actor at the Academy Awards this year, used to be in the "Mummy" franchise films, and even played George of the Jungle at one point rofl 🤣 😆
Ben Affleck himself has won several Oscars, but even he has played Daredevil and Batman. So..... 🤷🏾‍♀️ Timmy stans who are putting down Tom for playing Spiderman obviously don't know that much about films and actor filmography history. IMDB.com is literally right there. 😅
Like, an actor is an ACTOR. IDK why Timmy fans look down on blockbuster/mainstream films, and put Timmy into some small, limiting little box. 🥴
You can win an Oscar at any age. Timmy does not have to win one before age 30! In fact, it's kinda rare for male actors (esp if they're good looking lol 😆) to win an Oscar before age 30.
No offense, but his fans sound insufferable imo lol.
