I'm writing a fanfic rewriting Legend of Korra to make Korra an anti-hero who eventually allies with Kuvira and betrays her friends. It's called "The Tragedy of Korra". Have you ever thought that Korra would have been more interesting if Korra herself was more morally grey? I feel like it would have tied together a bunch of elements that didn't work too well in canon Korra.
i mean korra already is morally grey (liberal). but i do think a narrative wherein korra attempts to undo the (supposed) work of aang & zuko to establish a neocolonial state on earth kingdom land (republic city) by allying with kuvira could be interesting in terms of what would need to change in the plot for her to reach that conclusion. lok pretty uniformly portrays republic city as a good thing that only fascist monsters would attempt to condemn, but kuvira is also just categorically right that republic city is essentially a fire nation colony in a coat of fresh globalist paint, she's just wrong in her conclusion that returning that land to the earth kingdom means returning that land to her specifically. but korra grappling with the ramifications of the darker aspects of her predecessor's legacy is a very "avatar" story (aang w/ roku, kyoshi w/ kuruk, kuruk w/ yangchen, even korra w/ wan in book 2 i guess), and was only really elided by the narrative because we're supposed to agree with the construction of republic city in the first place (ymmv).
we're supposed to buy that aang and zuko established republic city and that rc is an ontologically independent state with no vestiges of fire nation imperialism left in its functioning, but it takes many large leaps in logic to arrive at that conclusion (such as toph establishing a police force; katara being fine with neocolonialism, including in her home; etc.), that this was a largely positive decision and not a geopolitical blunder. but i think taking a more realistic approach, that aang was forced to make compromises and now korra must decide whether/how to rectify those decisions and with whom to ally to do so, was always the kind of dormant subtext of lok that i felt like needed to be teased out more for the show to work in the direction it had been taken (which, again, is not necessarily the only or best direction they could have taken it).
i do think you'd have to change kuvira's character considerably to make her less cartoonishly evil (she is a fascist ethnonationalist who crowns herself emperor, puts minorities in internment camps, and harvests the resources of a sacred swamp to construct a wmd that is launched from a giant robot...) if you want anyone to buy that korra would ally with her, but korra does also ally herself with some pretty questionable figures, so i hardly think her naïveté in that regard is out of character for her either. i think politically speaking, lok kind of already is a tragedy, so you'll probably find yourself with both an easier and harder job than you'd expect attempting to rewrite the narrative from this particular angle.

Rollout Ceremony for the third operational orbiter, Discovery (OV-103) at Palmdale, California. On the stage is the Don Beall of Rockwell (at lectern), Dr. Rocco A. Petrone, the president of the company and the crew of her first first flight STS-41-D.
She is named for several different ships:
"The name Discovery was chosen to carry on a tradition based on ships of exploration, primarily HMS Discovery, one of the ships commanded by Captain James Cook during his third and final major voyage from 1776 to 1779, and Henry Hudson's Discovery, which was used in 1610–1611 to explore Hudson Bay and search for a Northwest Passage. Other ships bearing the name have included HMS Discovery of the 1875–1876 British Arctic Expedition to the North Pole, and RRS Discovery, which carried the 1901–1904 Discovery Expedition to Antarctica, led by Captain Scott."

At the beginning of her career, Discovery weighed roughly 3,600 kg (7,900 lb) less than Columbia due to lessons learned during the construction and testing of Enterprise, Columbia and Challenger. She weighs 6 pounds (2.7 kg) heavier than Atlantis and 363 pounds (165 kg) heavier than Endeavour. Part of this was due to the greater use of quilted AFRSI blankets rather than the white LRSI tiles on the fuselage, and the use of graphite epoxy instead of aluminum for the payload bay doors and some of the wing spars and beams.
"During her construction, Discovery was fitted with several black tiles near the middle starboard window where there should have been white tiles. It is unknown if this was the result of a harmless manufacturing mishap or done intentionally to give a distinctive look to the shuttle. This feature has been called 'teardrop' and allowed Discovery to be easily identified.
Upon her delivery to the Kennedy Space Center in 1983, Discovery was modified alongside Challenger to accommodate the liquid-fueled Centaur-G booster, which had been planned for use beginning in 1986 but was cancelled in the wake of the Challenger disaster."
She was originally intended to be the dedicated US Air Force shuttle and launch DoD payloads from SLC-6 at Vandenberg AFB but these plans were cancelled in aftermath of the Challenger disaster.

I'd love to see the gun-con post where the quartet get approached by a republic commando, who after seeing them talk to the imperial army presents them with... A dc-17m blaster rifle with ALL the attachments.

Jaune: The name is Jaune Arc. Can I help you?
RC#2: We saw you speaking to those Imperial Scum, the other day. We just want to confirm that you are not considering joining their ranks.
All the Girls: HE IS NOT!
RC#1: Good. You made the smart choice. Now we are also aware you are looking for a ranged option for your kit, may we introduce you to...
Ruby/Tiny Tina: A DC-17M blaster rifle?
RC#3: Correct. The best modular weapon system ever created. Totally customizable for whatever your mission needs are.
John-117: You don't say.
Jaune: That's pretty... neat, actually.
RC#1: It is a complete weapons kit, featuring a Blaster Rifle. It is a rapid fire weapon perfect for close to mid-range engagements.
Ruby: With a fully charged power clip, it has sixty shots.
RC#3: Then we have the sniper configuration. It features a twin zoom electromagnetic scope. Perfect for mid to long-range engagements.
Tiny Tina: 10x and 20x, though you only get five shots with per power pack.
RC#2: And there is my personal favourite... the Anti-Armour Grenade Launcher. While the grenades have to be one at a time, the explosives detonate on impact and have a large enough blast radius that they can be used to break enemy formations.
RC#1: So what do you think? Interested?
Jaune: I am, but would I carry all the attachments? I mean, that would be a fair bit of extra baggage for me to lug around.
RC#1: Ideally, you would customize it to the mission specs prior to disembarking.
Jaune: (Turning to his friends) What do you...
Imperial Officer: Republic Scum! This world is under Imperial jurisdiction!
EVERYONE: WHAT!?!?!?
IO: You heard me! This world is under the protection of the Galactic Empire!
John-117: (Looks at Cortana) Is that true?
Cortana: No, it is not. That statement is completely false.
RC#1: Imperial Dogs!
Master Chief read the room in seconds, and was in motion before the first blaster bolts could even fly. In an impressive feat of strength, he scooped Jaune, Ruby, Pyrrha, Tiny Tina, Jinx and Emerald up and out of the line of fire.
John-117: Stay down!
Blaster bolts flew about wildly, missing pretty much everything and everyone. In fact, the only thing that was suffering any serious damage were the walls, as the bolts from both sides scored and blackened them.
Jaune: There are really not hitting much for the amount of shooting they are doing.
Ruby: I don't understand. Both these groups are powerhouses...
Emerald: I think it's the helmets.
Pyrrha: Didn't the last group of the white armoured guys complain about the helmets?
Tiny Tina: They did.
A loud crack of metal hitting tiles echoed about, followed by both the Republic and the Imperial Forces suddenly being suspended in midair.
Ozpin: Gentleman...
ISTs/RCs: Crap-baskets
Ruby: Swear Jar!
Ozpin: It has come to my attention that someone has been making false statements about whose jurisdiction Remnant falls under. I was coming to correct the issue and what do I find? A full-blown firefight with in a civilian attended event.
ISTs/RCs: They started it!
Ozpin: Not to mention, if it had not been for the Master Chief, my students would have been in serious danger...
ISTs/RCs: Um... we're sorry?
Ozpin: That may be the case, however I think reparations should be made. Glynda?
Glynda: Detention with Professor Port. One week.
ISTs/RCs: ...
Ozpin: They are all yours, Professor Goodwitch.
Everyone watched wide-eyed and with a slight shiver as Professor Goodwitch turned on her heels and marched off, the combined members of the Republic Commandos and Imperial Storm Troopers floating behind her.
Ozpin: I would like to thank you for taking care of my students.
John-117: My pleasure. Seem like good kids.
Ozpin: For the most part, they are. Is there anything I can do to repay you for your actions?
John-117: I'm looking for someone. Goes by the name of Banshee-44, he might be selling counterfeit USMC weapons.
Ozpin: I see. That is a serious accusation, which I find slightly disturbing as Mr Banshee-44 has always been an upstanding vendor for these events.
Joh-117: That's why this is an investigation.
Ozpin: Understood. I believe his booth was moved towards the east entrance. If I remember correctly, he's situated next to the Nerf stall.
Jaune: There are Nerf guns at a firearms' convention? How does that work?
Ozpin: Mr Arc, you can not have a respectable Gun Convention without Nerf products being represented. You know what they say...
Tiny Tina/Ruby/Jinx: It's NERF or NOTHING!
Ozpin: Quite right. I will leave you to enjoy the rest of your day.
John-117: Well, it has been a pleasure, but we have work to do.
Everyone waved to Cortana and Master Chief as they walked away.
Pyrrha: He was nice...
Ruby: And tall!
Pyrrha: Yes, that too.
Emerald: So, where to now? Do we go for lunch or check out some more booths?
Jinx: OH! OH! OH! OH! Over there!
Tiny Tina: DEFINITELY over there!

On the song bringing up a memory
One republic: Good life makes me emotional because I get middle school and high school/graduation flashbacks and coming from a small town everyone scattered after graduation the two friends I’ve managed to keep in touch with. One lives 2 hours away and the one of my two best friends that keeps in touch is on the other side of my country (8 hour flight) going to business school there. But hopefully I can visit her sometime soon.
It’s not all bad I’ve made new friends that mean a lot though the old ones will always mean the world to me. Especially the online friends who have helped me through the time of feeling alone before I started going back to college in person since the pandemic started looking at you @deepspacedukat @horta-in-charge @thestonelady I hope you all understand what you have done your stuck with me now 😂 jk jk

The people who support and believe in you, so that when you don’t believe in yourself you will start to, because they believe. Oh my gosh this is such a silly thing. I've had this username in one iteration or another since I was a middleschooler. My favorite color and flavor has always been orange. And I used to lament that they didn't make orange poptarts. So I started making my usernames OrangePoptart. I use Sweet in a lot of my usernames too for personal reasons. Not much. I don't really have triggers and I don't get too bothered by grammatical errors. I think maybe if they're out of character without a clear reason for them to be out of character, that usually does it for me and I'll leave. Unrealistic smut can make me click back too.

So good job Raiko you put these gay disaster boys together and now they're in love. 2. Uhhhh he contracted Asami to rebuild the city roads. Good instincts there. 3. idk if this is 'good' but I love the Avatar Legends detail that he and his wife now host a political radio show and apparently Wu had a disastrous interview on the show leading to the mandate that no government employee appear on the show.

Oooooh here's a Wuko hc I don't talk about. I flip around the popular fanon that Wu always sleeps in and Mako's always awake first. Especially after Wu moves to Ba Sing Se, I hc that BSS time is about 3 hours ahead or Republic City. So when they visit each other, Wu is always awake first, literally up before the sun when he's in RC.

Hello, I was wondering if I could ask about a post you made years ago about how the spirit vines worked (how Mako almost destroyed Republic City). You theorized that Unalaq was growing the vines in RC because he wanted to create more portals. However, could it be possible that spirit portals can only be created in certain places? In the ATLA comics, it's revealed that the land that RC was built on was guarded in ancient times by a spirit named Tienhai (suggesting something unique about the area). Also, in the commentary for Book 2 Bryke said they originally wanted to have four spirit portals, but decided on two to be more concise. The only other place where spirit vines were shown to grow was the Swamp (which was also shown to be a uniquely spiritual place). Do you think another portal could be created in the Swamp?
It's been like 8 or 9 years since I've listened to the commentary tracks of Korra, but I honestly do kind of remember them saying that about four portals.
That's certainly one interpretation for how the portals work, and yes making one in the swamp would make sense because it already has vines.
As for only certain places? The finale to a post canon fic I wrote about 8 years ago depicted hundreds of them being opened all over the planet simultaneously. So, gonna disagree on that particular element. It's also kinda limiting and what would have happened if Korra tried to energy bend the beam and she wasn't in a special portal place?

She was built as Static Test Article 099 (STA-099) and was a prototype of the light weight orbiter (OV-103 to OV-105). It underwent vibration tests designed to simulate entire shuttle flights, from launch to landing. When it was determined the design changes learned from STA-099, the Construction of Columbia and the Approach and landing tests meant the Enterprise (OV-101) would be expensive to refit into an operational orbiter. It requires a complete tear down and rebuild to bring it up to the latest design specs and delay the completion of Discovery and Atlantis by 12 months. It was found it would be cheaper to refit STA-099 and only delay the completion of the other two orbiters by 6 months.
Lessons learned from the first flight of Columbia (OV-102) led to her being 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilograms) lighter than Columbia, although still she was 5,700 pounds (2,600 kilograms) heavier than her sister Discovery (OV-103). Upon completion, She possessed fewer thermal protection system tiles and carry 2,500 lb (1,100 kg) more payload than Columbia.
