Propaganda
Basil Rathbone (the Sherlock Holmes movies, The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Court Jester)—ok most people will tell you he's the best Sherlock Holmes ever but I crushed hard on him when I saw him as the villain for The Court Jester. best swordsman in all of Hollywood at his time.
Vincent Price (Laura, Leave Her to Heaven, House on Haunted Hill, The Masque of the Red Death)—svelte, stylish, horrifying, beautiful, wickedly funny, camp and gorgeous and evil. he was an art connoisseur who advocated passionately indigenous art, he was an actual literal gourmet cook, he was so liberal he got greylisted during the mccarthy era for being too rad, he's my favorite muppets guest of all time
This is round 3 of the bracket. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage man.

Tim Drake’s Friends (not to be confused with Red Robin’s friends)
Inspired by this post by cryptocism, I bring you: Tim Clique-Breaker Drake.
(Don’t mind me, this is also basically just me taking notes for a fic I’m working on. Tim’s various normal boy friendships. High School Musical has nothing on Tim Drake.)
(One of these days I’ll write half these characters’ DC Database entries. Today is not that day. All characters listed know Tim primarily as Tim Drake; anyone who knows Tim primarily as Robin/Red Robin, or who know Tim equally as Tim and Robin, is not included. If I miss someone... I missed someone.)
Sebastian Ives (Tim Drake’s longest civilian friend, met at Gotham Heights High School as freshmen. Geek, genius, bit of a coward, lyme disease and follicular cancer survivor)
Kevin Hudman and “Hudster” Hudson (Because "Hudman and Hudson” isn’t confusing or anything - classmates at Gotham Heights, play Warlocks and Warriors with Tim and Ives.)
Karl Ranck (classmate at Gotham Heights, varsity football jock, bully, wants to be friends with Tim, Tim was never particularly interested in being friends with him. Tried to recruit Tim to his gang, Tim said no.)
(Deceased, shot in altercation with fellow classmate and rival gang member)
Ariana Dzerchenko (Tim Drake’s 9th grade girlfriend, Russian Ukrainian immigrant, wants to be a fashion designer.)
Glenn Doppler (Gotham Heights classmate. Went out with Ariana once while she and Tim were still dating, after Tim stood her up for a date. Felt bad enough to come clean about it.)
Philmont Denlinger. (Gotham Heights classmate, friendly with Ives and Tim. Bullied.)
(Deceased, murdered by fellow classmates)
Ali Ben Khadir (Tim’s first roommate at Brentwood Academy and the teenaged religious leader of the fictional small country Dhabar)
Tim’s other Brentwood friends: Wesley Thomas (Tim’s second roommate, recovering alcoholic), Kip Kettering (geek, likes film and thriller novels, non-wealthy scholarship kid, counts cards in online gambling), and Buzz Cohen (football jock at a soccer school, rage management issues possibly requiring medication)
Star (skateboarder, taught Tim how, my lesbian awakening; Stephanie Brown thought her brother, Tito, was Robin)
Danny Temple (Brentwood classmate, young new leader of Kobra, knows Tim is Robin [does this make including him cheating?])
(of course, how could I forget Tim’s best friend and goodest boy, Cardigan?)
Bernard Dowd (classmate at Louis E. Grieve Memorial High School. Bit of an asshole, has a crush on Darla Aquista and Dana Drake.)
Darla Aquista (classmate as Louis E. Grieve Memorial High School, Mafia boss’ daughter, doesn’t date anyone, wants to date Tim. It was at this point I decided Tim was a babe magnet)
(Deceased, shot at school, died in Tim’s arms while he Tim attempted to resuscitate her but she died after being taken to the hospital. It appears as if she died in Tim’s arms if you’re only reading the Robin run, but she lives just slightly longer if you’re reading all of War Games. Resurrected, Warlock’s Daughter.)
Darla Aquista’s unnamed jock friends Tim SOMEHOW charms.... by offering to take a punch for his terrible friend.
(It was at this point I decided Tim was a jock magnet.)
Tyrone (football jock, bully) and Byron (freshman computer geek). Tim mediates. Tim seems to hang out with Tyrone more than once, though this is the last time we see Byron.
Jimmy (another jock at Louis E. Grieve, friends with Tim, Tyrone, and Darla)
Zoanne Wilkins (classmate at Gotham City High School, “allegedly” Tim’s tutor, hopes to get into Harvard, Tim’s ex-on-and-off-girlfriend)
Jared Walton (tennis player, rich kid, classmate at Gotham City High School, kidnapped with Tim once)
Craig/Greg Pulaski (tennis player, Gotham City High School classmate)
(This period of Robin comics is NOT great with remembering names)
Randi (Gotham City High School classmate, friends with Zoanne, unclear if she’s friends with Tim)
I think that’s everyone??
EDIT:
God fucking damn it, I missed Callie.
Callie Evans (Classmate at Gotham Heights High School, basketball player. Had a crush on Ives when they were younger, but grew out of it by the time he considered her an option.)

Hello people this is Robin Falcone with the daily consultation of the comments of the people
.
"Seriously, people, worthy no to drugs because if not... Batman " -Harley Johnson
"They should bring an army, our police forces are useless"- Tyron Red
"I love Nightwing things" -Stanley R
What comment so out of place
"Wake up Gotham City, villains are just another tool of oppression "-McFarland G
"Can't beat the Gothamites, celebrate the resilience of our beautiful city in the latest installment of Gotham Herald"
"People still believe in Gotham Herald? No wonder everyone is so misinformed" -Josh Mon567
"Officer McWhirter and Commissioner Gordon They are the types of heroes that we could not even dream of being, no matter what happens, never forget their bravery" -CookwJennifer
I want to go to the general hospital but this one is not enough! I don't know where else to go!" -Albert_Hill.
In response Harley Johnson said
"I'm the general hospital and it's look terrible. Even if the nurses try their best, people only get worse. Medicines don't even arrive anymore"
That's all for today, thank you very much a great Day Gotham

some fic ideas i’ve got rattlin’ around in the old dome that i might-or-might-not get around to writing:
- wherein Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 gets “kidnapped” by a group of teenagers who think he’s an elder vampire (bcuz. u know. fangs/claws/red eyes) and want to be “turned” and he’s stuck trying to get away without revealing that he’s actually spider-man (cue shenanigans)
- Moon Knight/Cloak & Dagger crossover wherein MK accuses two children of cramping his style, Marc imprints, Jake has a good laugh, and Steven wakes up the next morning wondering who set up two college funds in his name for kids he doesn’t know (aka, Tandy and Tyrone acquire a new mentor and get to eat a full meal for once in one fell swoop)
- What If Batman Adopted The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles And They Were His Robins ? just. just trust me on this i think it’d be funny
(Bonus: What If Splinter Raised A Pack of Acrobatic Human Children To Be Ninjas In The Sewers? everyone gets renaissance-painter codenames except for Dick who is vehemently still called Dick)
- Venom goes on a night-time run to the corner store with baby Sleeper and tries to not rouse suspicion (despite having a goopy baby strapped to their chest and also being a massive very-noticeable alien) or wake Eddie (who has had a long day and needs his rest :[ ). as one might expect, hijinks ensue. (BECAUSE THEY SHOULD GET TO BE A FAMILY, DAMNIT)
- what if all the spider-mans were warrior cats. that’s it that’s the au. no idea how it would logically work BUT peter would be “peatheart” because i’m sure cats know what peat is and bcuz it sounds like peter. miles would be like... a former housecat that goes and runs off to join peter in his forest gang or smthn. miguel would be an f3 savannah cat.
- All of Spider-Man’s boyfs get ganked and wake up in a warehouse without their powers. Matt is having an awful time, Marc is having A Time, Johnny keeps talking abt asbestos for some reason?, Wade is Actively Dying of Cancer Oh Fuck His Powers Were What Kept Him Alive, Kurt’s here for three seconds, etc. etc. etc. Eventually Spidey shows up and punches the building to dust with his fists and everyone lives happily ever after
that’s it for now... mostly i’m just writing it down to remember it later
BUT if you want to do anything with these you are encouraged to go buckwild i don’t really care.
if you want a guarantee that i’ll actually write any of these, though, you may well have to beat the words juice outta me with a stick

quarantine movie asks
tagged by: @silverscene - thank you very much!
favorite movie: oof, it changes but i think for now i’ll go with either cat on a hot tin roof (1958) or the clock (1945)
movie that makes you remember your childhood: victor victoria (1982). yeah my parents were pretty lax about me watching that sorta stuff. also, a hard day’s night! when i was first getting into the beatles.
favorite tom hanks movie: huh?
favorite disney movie: CINDERELLA. it’s just a childhood favorite of mine, with beautiful animation and such lovely music.
movie that makes you cry: the red shoes (1948). i saw it not too long ago for the first time and ended up a sobbing mess. oh, and the original a star is born.
favorite 80s movie: heathers (1988). it’s a lot of fun and has some really interesting societal commentary alongside the black comedy, too
favorite comedy: BRINGING UP BABY (1938). “i just went GAY all of a sudden!” that movie is just one line after another of some of the funniest stuff i have ever seen.
favorite sports movie: dodgeball (2004). it’s really stupid and i love it. no comment.
favorite courtroom movie: witness for the prosecution (1957). it’s my first tyrone power movie so of course it holds a special place in my heart. also it’s just really, really good.
favorite horror movie: ...i don’t watch horror films because i know i’d be really easily scared by them. so, no comment.
most overrated movie: hmm. black swan (2010). maybe this is because i saw its predecessor the red shoes, but i really couldn’t get the appeal to this one (also maybe because i’m not that big a fan of natalie portman, so-)
favorite gangster movie: goodfellas (1990). it’s scorsese, how could i not enjoy it?
favorite war movie: the dawn patrol (1938). this film ALSO made me cry ;A;
movie you can watch over and over again: too many to pick! i will say that among them, though, are young frankenstein, the harvey girls, the lady from shanghai, and father of the bride.
movie with the best soundtrack: MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. the trolley song slaps. do i really need to say more?
favorite christmas movie: elf (2003).
movie you’re embarrassed that you love: none, really? i personally just let myself enjoy things.
favorite sequel: i don’t watch enough sequel films to say.
favorite period drama: crimson peak (2015). i know, i know. technically it’s more of a gothic romance than a period drama, but those historically accurate costumes, amirite?
favorite dc movie: the dark knight (2008).
favorite movie quote:
"you speak treason.” “fluently.” from robin hood (1939).

For better or for worse, I have a job that is exempt - to a great degree - from the widespread need for isolation (in the world of news radio, the show must go on). However, I do get days off and thank goodness for that because my brain can only take so much constant pandemic talk.
So! I offer up ‘the ultimate music list’, something I started doing on YouTube last year. Maybe earlier. It’s a living list, it will never be complete.

Lavender marriage
– Urban dictionary
A term used in the 1930s, and can still be applied today. It's a term meaning if you are an actor who happens to be gay or lesbian like so many people in the 1930s, the agent of that actor tries to marry them off with a straight person. It is either this or lose everything when the public and fans find out a particular actor is homosexual.
These days it's no big deal to come out of the closet, but there are still gay actors married to a straight spouse for appearance, and reputation. This called a Lavender marriage.
Bearding
– Urban dictionary
An act that someone gay does when afraid to come out of the closet. usually this means dating a girl when you like guys just to coverup.
Famous Hollywood Lavender Marriages

During the early days of Hollywood, a gay actor or actress had to keep their sexual preferences hidden for fear of ruining their careers. To give the appearance of being straight—and often at the insistence of their agents or studio—homosexual entertainers would sometimes marry a person of the opposite sex in what was known as a ‘lavender marriage.’ Around the turn of the century, the color lavender was often associated with homosexuality, so the term was adopted by Hollywood to mean cover-up marriages arranged to keep up the façade of heterosexuality. Let’s look at some famous lavender marriages from Hollywood.
Rudolph Valentino and Natacha Rambova
In the 1920s, actor Rudolph Valentino was rumored to be bisexual which could pose a public relations problem for the handsome leading man. His acquaintance, costume and set designer Natacha Rambova was in a lesbian relationship with an actress, Alla Nazimova, which put her in the crosshairs of studio execs. The solution? In 1923, Rambova married Valentino in an attempt to show their fans that rumors of their homosexuality were unfounded. The marriage lasted only two years.
Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine
Although he was a popular entertainer, Danny Kaye was never the rugged, strong, leading man type. In fact, he was often cast in roles that showed him to be weak, cowardly, easily intimidated, and effeminate. Kaye was romantically involved with other men, particularly during his Vaudeville days. In 1940, he married Sylvia Fine, a piano accompanist. The couple had one child together, a daughter named Dena, even though most people believe their marriage was a lavender one.
Rock Hudson and Phyllis Gates
Rock Hudson’s sexuality was one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets. The box office star was a heartthrob leading man that had women swooning over him. In 1955, reporters at Confidential magazine threatened to publish an article exposing Hudson’s closeted behavior. His agent, in an attempt to squash the story, hastily arranged for Hudson to marry his pretty, young secretary, Phyllis Gates. Gates always insisted that it was a legitimate marriage, not a lavender one.
Tyrone Power and Annabella
In all likelihood, Tyrone Power was bisexual. Rumors have persisted for years about romantic trysts with some of Hollywood’s other leading men. Unlike other Hollywood lavender marriages, Power chose to marry the French actress, Annabella, without pressure from his agent or studio. In fact, the couple seemed to have a happy marriage, despite Power’s roving eye and affairs with both men and women. After his affair with Judy Garland ended in an unwanted pregnancy and abortion, Power and Annabella divorced.
Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli
Judy Garland’s husband and the father of her only child, Liza Minnelli, lived as an openly gay man in New York for a number of years before hitting it big in Hollywood. It was the restraints of Hollywood’s morality clauses that forced Minnelli back in the closet. Apparently, Garland was well-aware of his lifestyle when she married him and had a child with him. Years later, she encouraged her daughter to marry gay men, stating that they make the best husbands.
Janet Gaynor and Adrian
Actress Janet Gaynor’s third marriage to costume designer, Adrian Greenberg—known professionally as just Adrian—was a lavender marriage to cover up Adrian’s homosexuality and to quell rumors of Gaynor’s lesbian activity. The couple had one child together, Robin Gaynor Adrian, and remained married for twenty years until Adrian’s death in 1959.
Bearding is Still a Thing in Hollywood
– By Karen Frost
https://www.afterellen.com/general-news/532837-bearding-still-thing-hollywood
“Bearding” is a slang term describing a conscious attempt by a lesbian or gay man to hide her or his homosexuality from others by appearing to date or marry someone of the opposite sex. The “beard” (or in the case of a man used by a lesbian for the same purpose, the term used in the U.S. is “merkin,” which is a pubic wig, or in the U.K.“frock” (according to the Internet)) is normally witting and participates in the ruse as a favor to the other person or in return for some benefit.
Bearding has been around probably forever, but the use of the term “beard” specifically to describe the practice became more widely used in the 1960s. Before then, such relationships, particularly before World War II, were often called “lavender marriages.”
In Hollywood, bearding became almost normalized beginning in the 1920s, when studios began including morality clauses in the contracts they presented actors. In the 1930s and 40s, censors under the Motion Picture Production Code—also known as the Hays Code—kept a so-called “Doom Book” of 117 names of Hollywood figures whose private lives were “contrary to public morals” and therefore should be blackballed from working in Hollywood. Some gay actors and actresses responded by either self-initiating a bearding relationship or having one arranged for them by the studio to which they were contracted.
For example, then-Hollywood heartthrob Rock Hudson, hearing that Confidential magazine was planning to expose his homosexuality, married his agent’s secretary as a cover in 1955 (she herself is rumored to have been a lesbian). When Hudson dated Lee Garlington from 1962 to 1965, they would go together to red carpet premiers, but each had to bring their own dates to avoid public scrutiny. Hudson was only outed to the public after his death of AID-related complications in 1985.
In a 2011 interview with Joy Behar, Betty White implied she occasionally bearded for the flamboyantly gay Liberace. Liberace, who never publicly admitted to being gay, in 1954 announced his engagement to actress Joanne Rio, but they never ended up marrying.
While most people are aware of at least some Hollywood bearding efforts, the public is probably less aware of efforts by lesbians in Hollywood to hide their sexuality than gay men. Although not exactly a “bearding” situation, Rosie O’Donnell’s self-professed infatuation for Tom Cruise in the mid-90s on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” helped mask her homosexuality from the stay at home mom crowd that formed the bulk of her viewership.
In 2016, actor Johnathon Schaech discussed in a Reddit interview taking Ellen DeGeneres on dates at the request of their shared manager because Ellen was scared no one would watch her show if it came out that she was lesbian.
Country singer Chely Wright dated fellow singer Brad Paisley in the early 2000s even though she’d just moved in with her female partner partially to use him as a beard and partially because of a belief that she’d have to settle into an unfulfilling heterosexual relationship to fill societal expectations.
But does bearding in Hollywood continue in this decade? Yes, although the participants are unlikely to admit it until years later at best. Although the Hays Code was replaced in 1968 and gay marriage has been legal since 2015, the drivers behind an individual choosing to beard (avoiding public scrutiny that would result in blackballing/loss of income, fear of rejection by family and friends, etc.) remain.
In 2013, Ellen Page filmed “The East” with Alexander Skarsgard. In June 2013, director Zal Batmanglij posted a picture of the two on Twitter, and as the UK’s Daily Mail describes it, “Cuddling up to each other as they kicked back in a San Francisco park, the Swedish actor could be seen planting a tender kiss on his girlfriend’s cheek as she reclined happily in his arms.” According to other press reports, the two had been “dating for almost a year,” with some going to the extent of reporting that they were already expecting their first child.
Unnamed representatives for both sides denied the two were dating at the time, and Page has not admitted to bearding specifically (though she admitted, “I’m tired of hiding. And I’m tired of lying by omission.”), but nevertheless, the picture certainly did not look platonic, and Page indirectly benefited from speculation that they were dating because it diverted attention from her sexual orientation before she came out publicly in February 2014.
Although Americans are more likely to be familiar with bearding by gay men (skepticism at “American Idol” singer Clay Aiken’s protestations of heterosexuality greatly exceeded credulity about them), rumors about Oprah being in a secret relationship with Gayle King and, to a much lesser extent, Dolly Parton and Judy Ogle, have shown astonishing resiliency over decades, suggesting that at least some Americans understand that some celebrity lesbians (if not actually Oprah and Dolly) still feel a need to remain closeted.
Historically, it is difficult to pinpoint whether relationships have been bearding relationships, because of the theory of fluidity in human sexuality. For example, the singer Ricky Martin came out in 2010 as gay, but does that mean the women he dated in the 1990s were beards? Only they know. In January 2016, Rick told Mexican magazine Fama! that he likes both men and women.
Many people have claimed that Whitney Houston once dated her best friend Robyn Crawford, and her ex-husband Bobby Brown himself in his 2008 autobiography implied that Houston had used him as a beard to avoid speculation about her sexuality, but only Houston knew the full truth. Conversely, Sarah Paulson had only dated men before embarking on a relationship with actress Cherry Jones and then Holland Taylor, but as she identifies as bisexual, there’s no reason to believe her previous male partners, including playwright Tracy Letts, to whom she was engaged, were beards. Overall, often the public only finds out about a true bearding relationship retrospectively, after the individual comes out (or in some cases, dies).
One obvious but loaded question that follows from the continued practice of bearding is should lesbian actresses who are worried about their careers beard, or should they simply refuse to discuss their personal lives? The answer to that question is for another article.
The Secret Gay Life of Hollywood
Written by Yasmin Element. Posted in FUSE Features
https://www.fusemagazine.com.au/index.php/articles/fuse-features/68-the-secret-gay-life-of-hollywood
Flashback! The Hollywood film industry has always had a high percentage of gay and lesbian employees, drawn to the theatre as a world of creativity, open mindedness and experimentation. Yet the hypocrisy is that as gay as Hollywood was (and is), actors have had to pretend that it isn’t.
Hollywood has a history where it welcomes and nurtures gay and lesbian lifestyle behind the scenes but has often gone to great pains to keep its queer little secret from the heterosexual viewing public.
It all started during the early days of motion pictures. During the sexual revolution of 1920s there was ambivalence around gender roles and this was reflected in popular movies with icons like Valentino and Marlene Dietrich. But eventually the media started to make fun of these gender-bending characters.
The very handsome Valentino (pictured below) held a number of public boxing matches to affirm his masculinity after the media named him the “pink powder puff”. Sadly it was wounds from one of these fights that ultimately lead to his death at only 31-years-old. At the time of his death he was romantically involved with
Leading man, Billy Haines was caught cavorting with a sailor at a downtown YMCA by police. His agent fired him and his acting career was over. This and a number of other sex scandals were exploited by the media and became the early days of the now rampant celebrity gossip columns. Needless to say it led the public to believe that there was a certain immorality in Hollywood and there was a public backlash.
In the 1950s the moral code became even stricter and gay actors and actresses lived in a culture of fear. Rock Hudson was one of the biggest stars of the time yet his homosexuality was concealed by the arranged marriage to his secretary. The marriage was short lived but Hudson’s sexuality and long term relationship with fellow actor Marc Christian was kept secret until his public announcement that he had contracted AIDS in the mid 1980s. Other big stars of the era rumoured to be gay or bisexual include: Cary Grant — who lived with fellow actor Randolph Scott for twelve years but repeatedly denied that they were a couple, even though many of the photographs depicting Scott and Grant at home and at play seem to obviously convey otherwise; James Dean — who has been linked with a number of gentlemen; and Joan Crawford — who loved women and allegedly even had a one night stand with Marilyn Monroe.
Women’s groups and religious groups warned Hollywood to clean up its act which led to the first cinematic classifications guidelines in 1933. These self regulated dos and don’ts were particularly harsh on sexuality, and especially homosexuality.
The 1930s were the golden age of Hollywood and the birth of the STAR... but the fans were not getting the whole story. Studio contracts meant that a lot of money was riding on a particular actor’s reputation and damage control became de rigueur for agents who basically had complete control over celebrities lives. The stars were under very strict morals contracts that defined the way they dressed, how they behaved and of course who they dated. If they misbehaved they could be fined or put on suspension or, worst of all, be fired.
The androgynous actors of the past were replaced by ultra masculine actors and feminine female leads. But of course this in no way reflected their actual sexual persuasion. So to enforce their public heterosexual image, studios conducted elaborate arranged “lavender” marriages for gay actors — the classic example being Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Salem, whose false union was mutually beneficial for concealing both actors true sexuality.
Surprisingly, the sexual liberation of the 1960s and 70s had little effect on the secretive nature of Hollywood. Although films like Midnight Cowboy began to push the sexual envelope and homosexuality as a subject began to appear in movies, it was still a big no-no for any actor to actually be gay.
And not much has changed today. With all the gay themed movies, popular gay characters and even a handful of out actors around, Hollywood still operates the same way with many actors and actresses questionable sexuality splashed across the tabloids like it was a bad thing. And sadly it does genuinely seem to affect their careers.
When Pee Wee Herman’s Paul Ruebens was busted by cops taking things into his own hands in a gay porn cinema, his career was over. But when leading British heartthrob, Hugh Grant was caught cheating on his girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley with cheap street-hooker, Divine Brown, it not only didn’t lower his popularity but it actually quashed those hushed gay rumours and cemented his image as a ladies’ man. The message here is clear: career-wise, it’s much better to have a straight sex scandal than a gay sex scandal.
Apparently the majority hetero viewing public need to be able to relate to their leading men and women and need to believe on some level that they could be romantically involved with them — even though the chances of that are virtually nought, no matter what their sexual preference.
The irony is that there are now many gay characters in films. Yet strangely, whereas thirty years ago a straight actor would be risking his career playing a gay role, it is now considered a benchmark of their talent and almost guarantees them an Oscar nomination.
But sadly for openly gay actors like Rupert Everett and Ellen DeGeneres, their repertoire is limited. It’s ok for a straight man to play a gay role but it’s not ok for a gay man to play a straight role. Tom Hanks cast in Philadelphia made the audience feel comfortable with the subject matter — but Anne Heche in a romance with Harrison Ford in Six Days and Seven Nights? Forget it! The theory is still that actors will alienate their audience if they are gay and it will cut box office takings in half.
It’s like how they used to paint up white actors and hire them to play coloured roles, but now we find that un-pc. Will we someday think heterosexual actors playing gay characters is un-pc? And will the heterosexual audience ever be enlightened enough to cope with gays playing straight roles?
Until that shift in consciousness occurs, most gay and lesbian actors will remain in the closet. Things can go on behind closed doors but the Hollywood establishment will do everything they can to see to it that the real facts about Hollywood never become so public that they will affect the business of Hollywood.

Aston Villa vs. Leeds United score: Philippe Coutinho sparkles, but points shared in six-goal thriller
This had been shaping up to be the night Philippe Coutinho announced his glorious return to the shores of the Premier League. Leeds had other ideas on Wednesday as the fought back for a 3-3 draw.
Torn to shreds by the Brazilian and willing accomplice Jacob Ramsey, Leeds seemed down and out, trailing 3-1 with 42 minutes played. The traveling faithful might well have been staring nervously at the lower reaches of the Premier League table, where so many others have started to pick up points. Those relegation fears are certainly not entirely allayed by a point at Villa Park but the battling manner in which it was won augurs well for Saturday's clash against Everton.
For Villa the positives might also outweigh the negatives. Yes their defense was back to Dean Smith's dog days. However the evidence of Steven Gerrard's 10 Premier League games before tonight suggests this laxness -- Tyrone Mings handed Leeds a string of scoring opportunities before Ezri Konsa saw red late on -- will be robustly stamped out. Anyway if Coutinho is in the mood that took him tonight he might just be able to paper over every single crack at the other end.
From the outset the Barcelona loanee sparkled, looking every inch the player that so enchanted Barca last time he was in the Premier League. His fortnight and change with his new team mates had clearly paid dividends; his every flick, no-look pass and dummy found a teammate in a position to threaten the Leeds defense. A backheel of the most gorgeous indifference set Lucas Digne up to win a corner early on, the combined efforts of Islan Meslier and Robin Koch just about denying Mings' header. pg เว็บตรง ไม่ผ่านเอเย่นต์

For the week of 1 April 2019
Quick Bits:
Amazing Spider-Man #18.HU is Gibbon’s tale from Nick Spencer, Ken Lashley, Erick Arciniega, and Joe Caramagna. It’s a gut punch, a kick in the teeth, a few tosses against a tree, and then an attempt to turn you into a porcupine via arrows. While it does do a good job of telling Gibbon’s tale and attempting to make you care about him, it’s not a pleasant comic. It’s kicking the crap out of a z-list character to make you feel “the stakes” and this is really starting to feel cheap. Maiming and killing characters to up the gravity of a story, especially ones we’ve not see for some time, it’s not fun. It’s not shocking. And I’m tired of it. Which is somewhat sad, because this is some of the best art I’ve seen from Ken Lashley for a while. He seems to be channelling bits of Jack Kirby and Keith Giffen into his normal style and it looks really damn good.
| Published by Marvel
Amber Blake #1 is another partnership with Glénat in France, this one a fairly moody crime story from Jade Lagardère, Butch Guice, Christa Miesner, and Robbie Robbins. It’s a fairly dark beginning, delving into sexual assault and human trafficking, but interesting. The art from Guice is incredible.
| Published by IDW
Avengers: No Road Home #8 breaks out some art from Carlo Barberi as we head towards the home stretch of this series. Very nice character moments for Hawkeye, Hercules, and Conan this issue, though the build up of seemingly insurmountable odds from Nyx is adding some incredible tension.
| Published by Marvel
Bronze Age Boogie #1 launches Ahoy’s second wave of series and it’s awesome. The lead story is a bizarre mix of Doom Patrol-esque superheroes, Planet of the Apes alternate realities, and a teenager from nearly 4000 years ago fighting in a world of wizards and zombies. It’s glorious madness from Stuart Moore, Alberto Ponticelli, Giulia Brusco, and Rob Steen with so many ideas you can barely keep up. Rounding out this issue is the usual prose pieces and a wonderful back-up comic of Major Ursa, an astronaut bear, from Tyrone Finch, Mauricet, Lee Loughridge, and Steen that elevates the entire package even further.
| Published by Ahoy
Champions #4 unleashes Kaldera on the team looking to get revenge on Sam, while Miles and Kamala have a confrontation about what happened in Dubai. Lots of wonderful emotion in this one, beautifully depicted by Steven Cummings and Marcio Menyz. Also, Kaldera wanting to eat everyone is just weird.
| Published by Marvel
Conan the Barbarian #5 is another great issue from Jason Aaron, Mahmud Asrar, Matthew Wilson, and Travis Lanham. This one taps into Conan’s life as a thief and a pirate while unleashing eldritch horrors from stealing the wrong idol. Great tentacle beasts and a wonderful feeling of dread throughout the story as Conan fights to survive adrift at sea.
| Published by Marvel
Dead Kings #4 gives us some more dark humour as Maria and Sasha get closer to launching the rescue attempt on the prison, while Gena plans a little revolt of his own. Great artwork from Matthew Dow Smith and Lauren Affe.
| Published by AfterShock
Deathstroke #42 continues the “Terminus Agenda” crossover with Teen Titans as Slade looses the bonds of his prison in Robin’s underground supervillain jail, then hangs about and seemingly attempts to needle Damian as their attempt to take down another villain goes awry. This story is odd, but entertaining. Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan, Jason Paz, Norm Rapmund, Jeromy Cox, and Willie Schubert are doing something interesting here.
| Published by DC Comics
Die #5 gives us the conclusion to the first arc and it’s pretty dark. Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles make us question here whether or not our heroes actually are “good” as they systematically start to take apart some of Sol’s toys in order to try to get home. Also, there are some horrifying hints at worse things waiting.
| Published by Image
Giant Days #49 sees Esther go back home for Easter break to try to write her dissertation. And fight a vampire with the 11-year old sister of one of her friends. Wonderful bit of how time changes you from John Allison, Max Sarin, Whitney Cogar, and Jim Campbell.
| Published by Boom Entertainment / BOOM! Box
The Girl in the Bay #3 chronicles a bit of Hugh’s side of the story to his monstrous clay-like hallucination buddy, as Kathy continues to try to make sense of her double existence and the older version of her’s death. There’s definitely something else at play here as JM DeMatteis, Corin Howell, James Devlin, and Clem Robins keep building this mystery.
| Published by Dark Horse / Berger Books
The Green Lantern #6 is relatively muted compared to previous issues, but still has an incredible impact as Hal goes through seemingly the last of the Blackstars’ tests and is granted an audience with Mu, from Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp, Steve Oliff, and Steve Wands. Mu here definitely seems to be insane, which is chilling for someone trying to control everything. There are some very interesting twists throughout, including another form of sacrifice from Hal, leading him to a strange place and a very old character who should give a hint as to where they are now.
| Published by DC Comics
Immortal Hulk #16 is another incredible issue from Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy José, Paul Mounts, and Cory Petit. This team really seems to be able to do no wrong and each subsequent issue is another masterpiece in horror, weaving together an impressive amount of Hulk history in a compelling and enticing way. Along with a very interesting development for Betty.
| Published by Marvel
Impossible Incorporated #5 concludes what has been an excellent all-ages series from JM DeMatteis, Max Cavallaro, and Gabrielle Gomez. This final issue leans heavy into quantum reality and divinity experiencing itself through permutation and self-reflection.
| Published by IDW
Justice League #21 is another interesting chapter in “The Sixth Dimension” from Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sánchez, and Tom Napolitano. This issue it become explicitly clear as to how it progresses the broader arc started in Metal as the stakes seem to be raised again. Stunning art from Jimenez and Sánchez.
| Published by DC Comics
Lodger #4 gets a little messy as the Laphams deliver the penultimate chapter of this series, inching closer to Ricky’s final confrontation with Dante. The disparate threads of the past, present, and Dante’s travelogues converge to a very strange perfect storm.
| Published by IDW / Black Crown
Marvel Team-Up #1 is an entertaining debut from Eve L. Ewing, Joey Vasquez, Felipe Sobreiro, and Clayton Cowles. This first issue teams up Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel presenting both sides to their day as they attend a speech from a noted ESU alumnus who has created a mind transfer device. Those things always go well. There’s some interesting contrast between wanting to be young again and wanting to be older faster.
| Published by Marvel
Oberon #3 continues to twist the tale as Oberon is confounded a bit by what Bonnie isn’t, from Ryan Parrott, Miloš Slavković, and Charles Pritchett. It seems as though nothing is as it seems in this story which leads to some intriguing surprises.
| Published by AfterShock
The Punisher #10 has some great incidental humour as Frank continues to cut a swath across a country of villains in “War in Bagalia”. Very entertaining work again from Matthew Rosenberg, Szymon Kudranski, Antonio Fabela, and Cory Petit.
| Published by Marvel
Red Sonja #3 is another excellent part of the story from Mark Russell, Mirko Colak, Bob Q, Dearbhla Kelly, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. This one hits hard on the value of mercenaries and what actually breeds loyalty.
| Published by Dynamite
Self/Made #5 takes off in yet another direction as Amala tracks down a scientist who has been searching for proof that ours is not the top level reality and is actually another simulation. It’s truly amazing as to how Mathew Groom, Eduardo Ferigato, Marcelo Costa, Mariana Calil, and Troy Peteri keep turning this story on a dime, with new revelations and new changes each issue without any of it feeling like a trick and delivering an engrossing narrative each time.
| Published by Image
Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #7 focuses on some of the odd jobs that Gwen is getting through her website, pushes forward the problems she’s having with her headaches, and complicates her personal life a bit more. Seanan McGuire is very nicely developing Gwen’s character and relationships, all with some beautiful artwork from Takeshi Miyazawa and Ian Herring.
| Published by Marvel
Summit #14 concludes this arc with Val and co. attempting to rescue Fiona and JB from Agent Wald’s clutches. The team-up with Noble and further development of Jamila helps re-emphasize the broader shared universe of Catalyst Prime. Also, how far all of the astronauts involved in the Event have come. Gorgeous artwork from Marika Cresta and Bryan Valenza.
| Published by Lion Forge / Catalyst
War of the Realms #1 begins the culmination of almost seven years worth of storytelling as Malekith’s forces finally invade Earth. This is epic. Jason Aaron, Russel Dauterman, Matthew Wilson, and Joe Sabino deliver on the massive promise of this story with a brilliant, beautiful, and surprising opening chapter that levels a huge threat at the world.
| Published by Marvel
Young Justice #4 goes into some of the politics and problems that Amethyst was having on Gemworld prior to the disparate youth of Young Justice arriving to the realm. Some nice character moments here from Brian Michael Bendis and really wonderful art from Patrick Gleason, John Timms, Alejandro Sánchez, and Alex Sinclair.
| Published by DC Comics / Wonder Comics

League Two Betting: Back Mansfield to end Carlisle's great run

League Two Betting: Back Mansfield to end Carlisle's great run Please share.
David Flitcroft’s automatic promotion hopefuls are likely to overpower John Sheridan’s pretenders, as long as their strikers stay, says Ian Lamont, who tips Morecambe to win at home…
Stags’ strike duo can blunt CumbriansCarlisle [3.2] v Mansfield [2.34]; the draw [3.6]If you are looking for a cracker away from the FA Cup third round this weekend, look no further than Brunton Park, where a pair of League Two’s most in-form teams collide. The Stags are unbeaten in 17 games – a remarkable run in any division. They have 14 points from the six-game table on which I place a fair amount of stall. Carlisle, however, sit one place above them on top of that table, on 15 points.John Sheridan’s men have really got it together in the past month or so, their only defeat in that time an excusable loss to Milton Keynes, who are many people’s favourites to win the division. The Cumbrians have thrown in plenty of goals since that early December defeat, but had hinted at doing so when thrashing Swindon 4-0. Another came along against Colchester, a side who shouldn’t be suffering losses of that magnitude, and then there was that 6-0 mauling of Oldham. Jamie Devitt and Hallam Hope have continued to help Carlisle push into the top seven – and how bunched it looks. Three more points and they could leapfrog Mansfield into third – but only if they won by four goals! I think, however, that even recent scorers Jerry Yates and Jack Sowerby will have quite a bit of difficulty breaking down the Stags’ defence as easily as they did Oldham’s.Danny Grainger, another semi-regular scorer, will probably be too busy at the other end, with Anthony Gerrard and Gary Liddle, against Mansfield’s midfield. Another clean sheet, to add to three in their past six games, will be needed here to win. However, it’s going to be a tall order to overcome David Flitcroft’s men, who have three clean sheets as well in that time, but who have also only conceded three in that time, too. One at a time.In fact, in their unbeaten run, there were only two games in which they conceded more than one. They were both 2-2 draws, at Bury and Cheltenham. Ten goals in 17 games is pretty good going. They don’t always seem to be guaranteed to bang in goals though, netting 26.The key task now for Flitcroft is to hold on to Tyler Walker, on loan from Nottingham Forest, for the rest of the season. He’s scored 11 league goals (three of their last five, add Opta) and CJ Hamilton, next best, only has five but is highly rated, with Preston reported to have had a £750,000 bid rejected. If Walker and Hamilton are still around on Saturday (and the tip is made on the basis that they are), it could be the day that Carlisle’s unbeaten run ends, as the visitors improve on the Opta stat that they have won just once in five trips to their hosts.Expect goals as Robins make feathers flyCrawley [2.9] v Cheltenham [2.66]; the draw [3.6]It sounds like Joe Maguire is really enjoying his time on loan at Crawley from Fleetwood. The defender has opted to extend his deal.Back in mid-October, the 22-year-old praised manager Gabriele Cioffi, saying the players were learning “so much” under him. That was after five straight home wins. After their subsequent poor run of form, it is easy to wonder if the Reds have stopped listening to their esteemed leader! Mind you, defeating Colchester on New Year’s Day made an impressive statement. The U’s might not have great away form, but they are making a strong battle for automatic promotion.Victory also allowed Crawley to cast out a winless December run from their minds (a goalless point at Newport last weekend was all they had to show for a dreadful month).More impressively still, the Reds (and Luke Gambin) netted both their goals in the second half, having played since the 32nd minute with 10 men after Joe McNerney’s dismissal.Defender Mark Connolly praised their character, and hard work over Christmas, in putting their poor run to bed. And now they have one of non-league’s most prolific recent goalscorers, Hendon’s Ricky German, who will be eager to impress. Previously with Chesterfield in League One, he didn’t scored in one start and eight substitute appearances for the Spireites, so the 19-year-old will be keen to make his mark and prove he is now league quality. So can they overcome the Robins? Michael Duff’s men have improved of late, with one defeat in 10 games (three wins and three draws in their last six) with three wins and three draws in six, and in fact one defeat in 11. In their previous 10, they had one win and three draws.Duff says the early transfer window will be a busy few days. A couple have gone back to their parent clubs, while striker Manny Duku has returned from his spell at Barnet and Bristol City’s Cameron Pring, 20, who came through Cheltenham’s youth system, has returned on loan. The visitors have been scoring, too. In those past 10 games, they have netted 21 times, mostly two or more per game. They’ve conceded 14 too, so there should be plenty of goals at the Broadfield on Saturday. With Alex Addai earning praise in recent times for creating chances, Luke Varney and Conor Thomas have been able to concentrate on scoring in consecutive matches. Tyrone Barnett must wish he can rekindle the half season he spent at Crawley in their first League Two season.Crawley will do well to continue their revival here but they could well earn a draw. Opta reminds us that this fixture ended 5-3 to the visitors last season, and I think there should be goals again – over 3.5 goals is the pick at [3.6], with the visitors making much of the initial running. Maybe the high-scoring wager is the main bet here, but the game finishing a point apiece seems equally possible in a draw-strewn division. Shrimps can take advantage of Crewe’s away woesMorecambe [2.9] v Crewe [2.74]; the draw [3.4] Crewe are a mystery at the best of times, with David Artell striking me as someone who spends a lot of time not being able to put his finger on problems. They must “pray” about Paul Green’s injury, for example, after the midfielder came off against Bury with a recurrence of a knee injury. He strikes me as a grafter, though, who will find answers eventually. I think that sums up Crewe’s patchy form – with no goals for three games running, then two clean sheet victories, one of them over Lincoln, and a defeat.Bury boss Ryan Lowe accused Crewe of trying to “spoil the party” on New Year’s Day, which was more about ruining the Shakers’ home form rather than anything nasty about their opponents. Chris Porter scored for the visitors, who only have one away win this season.Jordan Bowery might be suiting his new role out wide, but Morecambe have their own specialist wing man in Kevin Ellison and will most definitely be looking on this as a chance to pick up points. They haven’t scored in two matches, and need to find the magic they found to defeat Cambridge 3-0 and draw 2-2 with Port Vale, when A-Jay Leitch-Smith scored the last of his six goals. Rhys Oates could do with finding the net again, too. Shrimps boss Jim Bentley is now looking for January bargains, especially after not renewing 37-year-old winger Garry Thompson’s contract. The stats men at Opta say that Crewe have won three of their last four trips to Morecambe, with a 0-0 draw in January 2017 the exception. Their current away record counts against them, however, and Opta add killer stats that they have lost five on the bounce on their travels, netting the fewest number of goals (four) in the entire English Football League in the process.
