I found this beautiful small book by Japanese artist Zenji Funabashi, created while he was living in Toronto for a stretch in the 1970s. Only 200 were printed, I feel so lucky to have found this gem.
I scanned the entirety and you can read through it on my account at archive.org
Zenji Funabashi b. 1942, Kawasaki, Japan.
He is an artist, with works on paper and wood.

Italian Dyer's Notebook
Autograph manuscript, circa 1856-1866
This warped and worn nineteenth-century Italian manuscript appears to be a working manual and color inventory of a wool dyer in mid-nineteenth-century Italy. The handwritten entries are dated between 1856 and 1866, suggesting that the notebook was used and added to over a period of time. The work includes more than 500 numbered and itemized recipes for dyes. Recipes are illustrated with more than 800 wool and fabric samples adhered to the pages. The samples range in colors from shades of brown to vivid fuchsia, turquoise, and mustard. The samples include fabrics of wool, felt, and cotton, as well as raw wool and coils of yarn. Ingredients listed include mud, urine, arsenic, and vitriol. Pages 192-219 contain longer descriptions of dying processes, one attributed to Giacomo Udinese and another to Cesare Bizzi.

This handsome fellow, drawn in red ink, is an example of a ‘drôlerie’, and is found in the Library’s copy Biblia Latina, printed in Venice in 1489. This was originally a four volume Bible, but our copy only includes this, the fourth volume. The book has a large number of red ink doodles (see below), as well as contemporary marginal notes. Drolleries such as this are commonly found in medieval manuscripts, and incunabula, books printed in the 15th century. They are often grotesque and bizarre figures.

euro 40,00

Fact checking just wasn’t quite the same in the early 16th century.
This page detail, taken from the Ortus Sanitatis, includes two animals purported for all intents and purposes to be ‘real’. The influx in mercantile travel during this period is believed to be partly responsible for the propagation of many half-truths and the subsequent abundance of mythological creatures reported as not only being real but as existing in the various ‘new worlds’ being discovered and explored by Western cultures. This is why, in a book that also contains such exotic creatures as lobsters and crocodiles, we also find donkey headed humanoids, and mandrakes, and yes, even unicorns!
Ortus Sanitatis, 1511. Held in the History and Art of the Book collection, State Library of Queensland.

Who became today an owner of a treasure that is a novel in German by the great Christa Winsloe? 🥰😢
The person behind this post.
Danke, Chris & 1000 kuße für alles.
— Deine größtes Fan
□□□
A person A: *shrugging* Yeah, a book. A person B: No, a treasure that is available to be bought finally.
□□□
Right under the last lines of the novel, there are words.
"Alle Figuren und Ereignisse, die in diesem Buch geschildert sind, sind von der Verfasserin erfunden. Personen vorkommender Namen sind ihr nicht bekannt". ("All characters and events described in this book are invented by the author. People whose names appear in this book are not known to her.")
Majority of writers do this, but it's misleading in this case. Actually, because of summary, I realised last year that one famous Kate "inspired" our wonderful Chris(ta) Kate, and the book is the result. BUT ALSO, there are surely hints about young motherless artist Chris, so in a way, third finished novel about the one and only C. No matter what, the same huge amount of love as du (Chris) deserve.

A Rare Medieval Codex Discovered in Spain
A rare codex from the mid-13th century has been discovered in Spain after it went missing during the civil war (1936-1938), authorities announced Friday.
In late 1938, a soldier prevented the valuable ‘Fuero de Brihuega’ from being scorched when his military unit seized the town of Brihuega in the central province of Guadalajara, Spain’s Civil Guard reported.
A father and his son found the antique codex and handed it over to the Civil Guard so it could return to Brihuega, which is well-known for its mauve lavender fields.
The operation to return the valuable book to its rightful place was conducted by the Soler y Llach auction house in Barcelona, who were contacted by the pair who made the discovery.
Authorities have said the document, which dates back to 1242 when the Archbishop of Toledo, Rodrigo Ximénez de Rada, granted jurisdiction to the town of Brihuega, has an “incalculable value” and is well preserved.
Archeologist Juan Catalina Garcí shared the contents of the codex before it disappeared, and his report describes how the Fuero delves into the legal rules in place at the time and the penalties for breaching them.
The codex is over 70 pages long and is written on parchment paper. The pages are sandwiched between two thick walnut panels that are bound by four strips of leather.
The manuscript is signed by the archbishop and other clerical officers.
The medieval handwriting is in what paleographers call French typeface and is in various colors.
The codex will be delivered on Friday evening by the Civil Guard to the mayor of Brihuega, Luis Viejo Esteban, in a ceremony at Piedra Bermeja Castle.EFE
