Ok but this is such juicy interpersonal conflict. This is mwah, chef's kiss. The questions this introduces. Was Dragan the only duellist of note who was forced to lose against Jack on purpose or was there a whole slew of them? How many people did Jack actually beat legitimately before the Fortune Cup? How much more other than the PR stuff was fabricated for Jack's image?

Also, this is an absolutely unacceptable blow to Jack's pride—his expression in the fourth screenshot here really says it all. This is such a good way to call back to season 1 Jack and really get him invested in this match. I love this choice.

Every Taika Waititi film ranked by how much I liked them, while I count down the days to the release of Next Goal Wins (my most anticipated movie of the year!)

DISCLAIMER: I like all Taika Waititi films, so don't get angry at me

7. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Fun and colourful, I love Korg, Jeff Goldblum is great, but to me this is just a Marvel movie. Sorry, Marvel fans, this movie was just OK.

6. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

More fun and colourful than Ragnarok, loved Christian Bale, loved the kids, loved Jane Foster's arc (I thought it was well handled!). There was a bit too much Korg, I admit. People say this movie had too many jokes and didn't take itself seriously enough. Well, of course it didn't! It's a movie about gods and aliens and stuff in space! Honestly it was a blast and I liked it better than the third one. I said what I said.

5. JoJo Rabbit (2019)

This is a great film, we all know that. It speaks really well of Taika's filmography that it's so down on the list. It was hilarious and adorable and important. I feel like the comedy-drama could have been better balanced, I couldn't fully connect emotionally. Still, it was great and hilarious, the parody aspects were really well done and I really liked it.

4. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)

This one is really funny, it doesn't get enough credit for how funny it is. I loved the too leads, especially Sam Neill, I wasn't sure how well he'd fit into Taika's style, but he was fantastic. A really fun film.

3. Eagle vs Shark (2007)

All Eagle vs Shark haters are wrong, this film is great. Lily is the most adorable person, Jarrod is a dick but played with so much love that you can't help but emphatize with him and hope that he gets a redemption. The story was so sweet, I was actually, like, 'awww'ing out lout at times. Also the small town vibes and the awkwardness, and the feeling of having a giant crush on someone you have never really spoken to, it's all so real, I really love it.

2. What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

That I didn't rank this as number 1 is a surprise even to myself. This is one of my favourite movies and maybe my favourite comedy film of all time. I love the show as well, but to be honest I think the film is much much better. It's just- the vibes, man. The documentary aspect is fantastic. Also, Stu.

1. Boy (2010)

This movie feels like being told a secret, it's so personal. It is small and self-contained, but at the same time it creates a world so huge and lived-in that it's hard to believe it wasn't really filmed in the eighties. The kids are adorable, the scenery is so beautiful, the story is so heartfelt and full of emotions it genuinely made me cry (not for anything in particular, just everything had been done with so much love, it made me feel so many emotions and they could only escape through tears). It is Taika Waititi's masterpiece. Where he usually leans more into the comedy, here he lets the seriousness take over when necessary, and it really works so well. I just love this film, it is amazing, go watch it right now.

...and that's it. Taika Waititi is probably my favorite director at the moment, he's got a vision and is very good at realising it. He writes heartfelt and funny stories, likeable characters, amazing dialoge and his films always look very pretty. Totally recoment any of the ones in this list!

it pains me to think how much pain kratos had gone through before he could feel the love that people feel for a god they worship. he lost two wives, a daughter, and nearly lost his son. he had no one but himself to blame for the death of his first wife and daughter, and the reminder of it is in his skin forever. and i cant imagine having gone through another loss of his second wife in a land he ran to in an attempt to abandon his past mistakes. he was left to raise a curious and wild boy all by himself, but he did it. he raised such a great boy with the spirit of a warrior and a heart of his mother. and when the prophecy told him he'd die, he was ready. he was at peace with death knowing he was seen as a monster the for majority of his life and that it'd end soon. but he twisted his fate and the prophecy that faye told foresaw what his future was. when he felt helpless, with no purpose, the prophecy his late wife painted showed him as a hero. he went from feeling like a monster to knowing that he's a loved god, a father who raised a great son all alone, a warrior who never had a fight too difficult to bear. dhmu i'm emotional 🥀💔

My thoughts on each answer:

Only Once: Your favourite movies!?! Really!?!? …Okay 🤷🏻‍♀️ I genuinely don’t understand how that’s possible. I pretty much only ever watch a movie once if I really disliked it…even then I’ll probably wait some years and try watching it again

2-5 Times: This is how often I watch most movies..even ones I only kinda liked. I like to rewatch everything before actually deciding if I like it or not. The thing is..once I’ve seen it about 3 times I start to get too comfortable and decide I love it no matter what. I do this with songs too

6-10 Times: Okay this one I’ll accept depending on the reasons. If the first time you watched it was within 5-7ish years then I’ll accept it. I will also accept it if its a favourite, not because it’s a comfort movie, but because it’s genuinely amazing and you don’t want to become apathetic to it’s amazing-ness

11-20 Times: There are definitely quite a few movies I’ve seen this many times. Mainly ones that are shorter and have come out more recently.

More than 20 Times: You are my people. You get me. I have seen an unreasonable amount of movies dozens and dozens of times and I will watch them more times. To add some perspective I have seen Attack of the Clones seven times since January. That’s not even 4 months…imagine how many times I’ve seen it in total :)

I do think thor is being honest about how he thought the world of loki, but never enough to really look, to truly see his brother. never cared enough to dig deeper. and the mistakes loki made have just made it easier for thor to further ignore the deeper problems with his brother. you can love someone dearly, but still never truly see them. I wonder if knowing of thor's love makes it better or worse for loki. to be so loved, but for it to still not be enough to have been seen, to have been helped at all. or easier for it to be a lie and never loved at all, for it makes more sense to loki, because if you loved him why would you never dig deeper? why could you not see what was wrong? what was being done to him? how he felt? maybe that's why he was so adamant in the past, brushing thor's words away because otherwise that would mean even then it just wasnt enough. and it's more familiar to him too. the feeling he sits in, the knowledge that he's not loved or understood, that those around him think so little of him. and sometimes familiarity is easier than taking a new and brighter path.

he could be more. but it's hard to do that when everyone around you sees the worst in you and your stuck in a shadow your entire life. ignored. it's why I love mobius so much. he sees what others don't in loki and actually pushes him to be better and is there for him. mobius is truly the number one loki apologist.

ok but like. one thing i really like about god of war is how Mimir is just. a talking decapitated head. all he can really do is talk, he can't move himself around or anything. and yet he's still given just as much autonomy and respect as any of the other fully abled characters

#like. they make sure he's comfortable and alright but don't walk on eggshells around him or baby him #if any jokes are made about him just being a head it's usually either #1) a villain making a derogatory joke so you know this isn't a good thing to say/do #or 2) if it's a friend usually they ask if it's alright first or make some kind of note that this is a good natured tease #he's got a romantic relationship that seems to be thriving (good for him) and is also somewhat realistic #it's very clear he's seen as an equal and not lesser simply because he can no longer move himself around #he has to be carried everywhere but they don't seem annoyed by it (unless the person Doesn't Like Him)#and like. in important moments they hold him up so he can see as well #bc he is kind of. on the back of kratos's belt most of the time #but they did make a note of how he wouldn't want to be on the front of the belt bc of how bloody kratos's fights get #and also i really like how his and kratos's relationship develops in ragnarok they really do feel like brothers it's very nice #complete derailment of thought but this also made me think abt all the fuckin hilarious Hiccup's Leg jokes in race to the edge #need to rewatch that again. perhaps with our atreus fictive since he Relates™ to hiccup so much

The finale of Netflix’s Ragnarok was so personally devastating to me that I am considering watching Degrassi for the 7th time to feel okay again

I wonder if the reason they gave Tyr both hands in GOWR is because with the giant’s prophecies the depictions of him (figure with a helmet, beard, and spear) are actually supposed to be Kratos (has beard and spear at least by the end of the game) and it would be Too Obvious the difference between them if prophecies involving Tyr were missing a hand and the ones that are supposed to be Kratos have both

#im rewatching gowr again and in groa's hidden shrine where like. its showing 'tyr' leading ragnarok #its just like. not particularly detailed man with spear in hand (could be draupnir spear) and a beard and a pointy helmet #which i think traditionally is how tyr is depicted. and how he was depicted in the other things that were ACTUALLY about him in game #and since a big driving force in the story is trying to get 'tyr' to Lead Them To Ragnarok because of the prophecies #it would have been obvious. if those prophecies had both hands and tyr did not that the one in the prophecies was not supposed to be tyr #are you picking up what im putting down. do you understand #its just weird that they took away the actual god tyr's like. most notable characteristic (missing hand bc of fenrir)#and explained it away in a random travel dialogue like 'oh yeah he just grew it back'#like there has to be a reason !!!!!!!!!#they play with the gods designs but like with odin and thor they keep the most notable parts of the actual gods descriptions #anyway. sorry for 90% of this being insanity in the tags. many thoughts #talkin about goddy war
