I'm done with your purity
I'm fucking done with all of you westerners fucks who take your freedom for granted. AO3 was banned in china because pissy fans reporting RPF TO THE GOVERNMENT UNDER FALSE REPORT OF PEDO OR WHATEVER thus making life a living hell for Chinese writers and fans. ALSO LET ME TELL YOU that fanfic and AO3 is a safe space for many oppressed LGBT people outside of the west
I can't fucking say that I'm trans and bi without having people beating the shit out of me, but I can fuckin' write that I'm gay as fuck in fanfic or writing gay shit about my fave with fanfic
Imagine some people defending state wide censorship over fanfic, because they don't like icky fanfic, that's a sign that either you are brainwashed or fucking privileged and taking your freedom for granted. You know why Asian and other non western USA-European are more chill with fanfic and fandom?
Why we are less prone to make some stupid callout over fanworks?
Because most of us doesn't have the same information and expression privilege like the west, we take any freedom that we can have
Tumblr media
That's in 2017... There's probably more than one million websites being censored rn. I cannot even buy pride pin here because NO ONE outside of internet selling it! The censorship always begin from "banning information to protect children and moral from nsfw" down to censoring Spongebob Squarepants
You don't like something? Just don't fucking read it, it wouldn't stop the author to write and when they do stop writing usually after they are harassed so bad to the point of mental break down or suicide. What the actual fuck...
Defending and supporting state wide censorship because you want to feel superior on the internet is beyond stupid and it showing your privilege... Also yah fuck you who defend china aggressive state wide censorship because adult x adult RPF icky or whatever, I like reading Tom Hiddleston x Reader, because I'm lonely and it's fun. Don't lie that you never thinking of marrying your favorite celebrities or dreaming about dating Gerard Way.
What the fuck you gonna do about it? Crucify my ass? So long you are not shoving it to the person's face, who give a fuck? It's not a justifiable ground to cheer for government mandated national wide censorship. A lot of westerners are so privileged and terminally online to the point their mind revolve around online discourse 24/7 I'm not saying discourse has no damn merits but you get what I said...
Some people particularly white westerners are so privileged they have the chance to goes back 180° and agreeing with conservative mindset they claim to hate so much... Also your kink critical bullshit and your bullshit crusading over dark stories? Yeah. Heavily influenced by TERF and conservatism. Newsflash...
I'm not a person who agree with all ship or stories, i don't claim any moral high ground. I was so scared of getting cancelled due to the hostile neo puritan fandom culture, but seeing people defending China great firewall and aggressive censorship finally broke something inside of me and I cannot stay quiet
I don't give a fuck about your fanfic discourse, If i don't like something i just wouldn't fucking engage with it and wouldn't read...
Tumblr media
I'm done, I'm tired. Fucking tagging this shit as anti vs pro because i need to get the message out there and LET THE CHAOS begin
( When you want to escape your country censorship to the internet but then you see the supposed liberated westerners people wanting censorship because they want to feel moral. Yes there are even westerners who don't want to see anything even remotely 'problematic' example: they will attack Zutara or fuckin' Reylo shipper whatever. See? You are terminally online and so privileged... Congratulations... Here's your fucking medal and gold star)

My friend just linked me to this article in light of my rage at all the stupid bullshit comments to that dumb post that Neil Gaiman answered attacking any Good Omens meta that may suggest AziraCrow may want sex in the future.
This article focuses on Heartstopper and Red, White, and Royal Blue, but its relevant. Purity culture is insidious and a current plague infecting our fandom spaces. Don't let puritanicals use asexuality as a disguise and shield for their shitty views either. This has nothing to do with asexuality and everything to do with an infestation of conservative christian fundamentalist viewpoints within fandom spaces specifically aimed at attacking canon mlm media.
The fact that apparently in Good Omens fandom fans arent even allowed to make their own posts discussing potential themes and subtext within the show that dares to imply AziraCrow could have a sexual relationship without puritanicals going to Neil Gaimans inbox to complain that such discussions are offending their delicate puritanical sensibilities is horrifying to me. Its not an attack on your sexuality if fans claim that an intense ox eating scene is oddly sexually charged in their opinion.
We really must keep up the discussion against purity culture and stamp down on sex shaming within fandom.
Anyway it's an excellent article. Please read it.

Minors who go into kinky, adult-oriented content and then proceed to complain about "proshippers"? I just have one question:
Why in the hell are you looking at 18+ content? It says it's 18+, you have no business interacting with it or the content creator.
The only person to blame here is yourself. Stay out of adult spaces.

Teenagers saying stupid stuff about sex or being uncomfortable with certain sexual content doesn’t make them "puriteens” and doesn’t make them at fault for censorship being enforced by legislation, school boards, and companies.
Firstly, teenagers' thoughts on sex will change as they grow older and become adults, which is when they’ll be free to explore sex and develop a better understanding of it. Secondly, teenagers have no control over adults banning pieces of media and censoring websites, who often do it under the false guise of “protecting” them.
Lastly, stop obsessing over teenagers and their sexual opinions, because it’s unhealthy and extremely creepy to care this much. No adult should be harassing teenagers or bragging to them about their sex lives while also shaming them for not having one. It’s fucking weird.
If you dislike what teenagers are saying about sex, then block them, and while you’re at it, quit blaming them over ADULTS censoring certain media.

i swear some of yall are sounding catholic out here. "if you have a bad thought you're a bad person" "you can't consume media that's not 100% morally pure" do you realize how insane you're being

I have complicated feelings toward the content of this research.
ON THE ONE HAND: I agree friendship and non-romantic/non-sexual relationships are under-developed and under-appreciated in modern media. 100% true and 100% a problem in our media landscape. I absolutely agree the overall balance is off and recalibrating it would probably be beneficial and warranted.
ON THE OTHER HAND: I am REALLY frightened and disturbed by young liberal people internalizing the notion that sex needs to be "necessary" or "justified" in a piece of media. And here's why...
Because the idea of sex needing to be highly "justified" in order to exist a highly puritanical idea that -- at the deepest level -- is responsible for a lot of modern and historical queerphobia.
The reason it seemed logical to treat gay sex (and therefore queer people) as 'sinful'/bad/wrong/against God's plan/etc. is because it served "no purpose." It was just decadence with no "higher value" (i.e., procreation). That's the root of so much homophobia and queerphobia both now and in the past. And it truly scares me that young queer people are starting to uncritically reiterate that idea without any appreciation for how damaging it has been, and how much pain it has caused.
We need to be really, Really, REALLY, REALLY careful with this whole Is the Sex 'Justified' framework we are starting to bring (back) to the way we approach sexual content within the public sphere (entertainment media, social media, etc.). That framework treats sex as Guilty Until Proven Innocent. Which is VERY dangerous to queer communities and queer people.
~*~*~
And I do want to stress, it's not that I've never seen uses of sex in media that seemed perfunctory or gratuitous IN THE SENSE THAT it was clearly just so a woman could take her top off purely to be titillating, or a male character could be shown as extra ~macho~/manly because he fucks. I've seen that, and I don't love it either.
But we can critique those uses of sex in media WITHOUT falling into the trap of - Sex is BY DEFAULT Gratuitous/Guilty until Proven Innocent (innocent meaning justified 800 ways to Sunday). That is taking the whole thing way too far in the other direction. And believe me, most of history exists in that other direction and IT WAS VERY VERY BAD. You don't want any piece that, I assure you.

Saw someone bitching about how "puriteen" is "embarassing" because it's "rude and condescending..." and--it's supposed to be rude and condescending, for heavens' sake. I try not to use it for that very reason, but I understand that people are using it to express their frustration with children who refuse to take the opportunity to learn how kink or fiction or literally anything works and the many, many profoundly immature (and breathtakingly irresponsible) adults who encourage them. It's not supposed to be nice, it's supposed to make a point; it's an admittedly harsh reminder to grow up and get off the internet before someone gets hurt (and stop invalidating CSA survivors while you're at it).

If you are harassing real people because of fiction they write/read, please fuck off, you are anything but morally superior.

Incuriosity is thriving at the moment. People seem incredibly proud of publicly renouncing critical thinking in favor of asserting a frustratingly simplistic “thing good or thing bad” mindset. (...) Worse yet, we’ve come to think of art—all art—as commercial goods that warrant this calculation of the “Moral Nutrition Facts” to ensure we’re not feeding anything “bad” to our brains. So we arrive at a place where art is constantly screaming its own virtues at us. All the rough edges get sanded away, and the lines between “good person” and “bad person” are boldly drawn with one of those ridiculously large Sharpies in mass-produced, infantilizing literature that reassures us that we are good people for putting it on our shelves.

Since I am on a roll and I feel this needs to be said/explained. The reason why the modern teenagers and young adults decrying dark content and their writers baffles me, is that my generation spent years working to destigmatize dark content and many other things. When I was a teen in the 00s, gay characters were seen as unsuitable for children's media, trans characters were jokes, animation was still strongly seen for children and Christian moral guardians patrolled to keep things this way.
These were the days of a gay kiss being automatically PG-13. You could lose your whole library of work if you wrote smut. Christian moral guardians destroyed massive amounts of content under the guise of 'protecting children.' These were also the days before content warnings became common. While there were some warnings, they could be very generic such as NSFW which could mean anything you did not want to be seen reading publicly. Some even prided themselves on not giving warnings to the 'snowflakes.' We had to fight tooth and nail to get LTGBAQ content accepted, get people to actually use warnings and offer safe spaces for all kinds of fic. So when I see teenagers saying they want more censorship and the removal of certain content entirely, I can't help but think this; "We made this free space for you so you would never have to deal with what we did, why do you want the old ways back?"

So, I'm not in the Good Omens fandom, but having seen the "controversy" over a potential sex scene (or even confirmation of a sexual relationship) and it's striking me that the "asexuals vs. other queer identities" thing used by fandom puritains is LITERALLY the classic "divide and conquer" tactic used to prevent effective unity among minorities since time immemorial. By making the different letters of the rainbow alphabet fight each other, they can never unite enough to get ANY rep, and the fandom puritains are basically doing exactly what status-quo loving studios want.
Yeah this 100%.
I may have calmed down on the salty rage after getting a good nights sleep, but if there is one thing I really can't stand its the incessant infiltration of queer spaces by puritans.
I wish more people could see that the rhetoric they are parroting around the echo chamber is just anti sex puritanical conservative bullshit and not the "call for ace representation" that they think it is.
It is very much an attempt to divide the community and turn sex positive queer folk and asexual people against each other (when actually they are the same people).
Asexuality is simply a lack of sexual attraction, it is not a complete disgust and repulsion of all things sexual to the point that you must ban the entire internet for daring to think of the word sex!
Whats so funny about this is that I am totally on board with the ace Aziracrow headcanon, but these people are claiming META ANALYSIS that might indicate any hint towards sexual desire or an interest in sex between them is somehow gross and aphobic.
I dont even think Aziracrow will be having sex in s3. Its unlikely. But if they do drop a few jokes and hints about the possibility, the last thing we need is a fandom full of puritans blowing up acting like its the end of the world because two male presenting beings might have possibly fucked.
Once you peel back the layers it does end up just looking like your run of the mill conservative christian homophobia. Fandoms must become more skilled at recognising the signs of puritanical infiltration and must start fighting back and thinking for themselves rather than following the crowd because it seems like they are "supporting ace people".
Honestly I'm tired. I've been calling out this bullshit for 8 years in fandom. It only seems to have got worse.

"fiction affects reality" in the sense that some people in fandoms make it their whole personality and free time to try and be moral police about other people.
