Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #7
Feb 23-March 1 2024
The White House announced $1.7 Billion in new commitments from local governments, health care systems, charities, business and non-profits as part of the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities. The Challenge was launched with 8 billion dollars in 2022 with the goal of ending hunger in America by 2030. The Challenge also seeks to drastically reduce diet-related diseases (like type 2 diabetes). As part of the new commitments 16 city pledged to make plans to end hunger by 2030, the largest insurance company in North Carolina made nutrition coaching and a healthy food delivery program a standard benefit for members, and since the challenge launched the USDA's Summer EBT program has allowed 37 states to feed children over the summer, its expected 21 million low income kids will use the program this summer.
The US House passed a bill on Nuclear energy representing the first update in US nuclear energy policy in decades, it expands the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and reduces reducing licensing fees. Nuclear power represents America's single largest source of clean energy, with almost half of carbon-free electricity coming from it. This bill will boost the industry and make it easier to build new plants
Vice President Harris announced key changes to the Child Care & Development Block Grant (CCDBG) program. The CCDBG supports the families of a million American children every month to help afford child care. The new changes include capping the co-pay families pay to no more than 7% of their income. Studies show that high income families pay 6-8% of their income in childcare while low income families pay 31%. The cap will reduce or eliminate fees for 100,000 families saving them an average of over $200 a month. The changes also strength payments to childcare providers insuring prompt payment.
The House passed a bill making changes to the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program. The 8(a) is an intensive 9 year program that offers wide ranging training and support to small business owners who are socially and economically disadvantaged, predominantly native owned businesses. Under the current structure once a business reaches over 6.8 million in assets they're kicked off the program, even though the SBA counts anything under $10 million as a small business, many companies try to limit growth to stay on the program. The House also passed a bill to create an Office of Native American Affairs at the SBA, in order to support Native-owned small businesses.
The White House and HUD announced steps to boost the housing supply and lower costs plans include making permanent the Federal Financing Bank Risk Sharing program, the program has created 12,000 affordable housing units since 2021 with $2 billion and plans 38,000 additional units over ten years. As well as support for HUD's HOME program which has spent $4.35 billion since 2021 to build affordable rental homes and make home ownership a reality for Americans. For the first time an administration is making funds available specifically for investments in manufactured housing, $225 million. 20 million Americans live in manufactured housing, the largest form of unsubsidized affordable housing in the country, particularly the rural poor and people in tribal communities.
The Department of Energy announced $336 million in investments in rural and remote communities to lower energy costs and improve reliability. The projects represent communities in 20 states and across 30 Native tribes. 21% of Navajo Nation homes and 35% of Hopi Indian Tribe homes remain unelectrified, one of the projects hopes to bring that number to 0. Another project supports replacing a hydroelectric dam in Alaska replacing all the Chignik Bay Tribal Council's diesel power with clear hydro power. The DoE also announced $18 million for Transformative Energy projects lead by tribal or local governments and $25 million for Tribal clean energy projects, this comes on top of $75 million in Tribal clean energy projects in 2023
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg put forward new rules to ensure airline passengers who use wheelchairs can travel safely and with dignity. Under the planned rules mishandling a wheelchair would be a violation of the ACAA, airlines would be required to immediately notify the passenger of their rights. Airlines would be required to repair or replace the wheelchair at the preferred vendor of the passenger's choice as well as provide a loaner wheelchair that fits the passenger's needs/requirements
The EPA launched a $3 Billion dollar program to help ports become zero-emission. This investment in green tech and zero-emission will help important transportation hubs fight climate change and replace some of the largest concentrations of diesel powered heavy equipment in America.
the EPA announced $1 Billion dollars to help clean up toxic Superfund sites. This is the last of $3.5 billion the Biden administration has invested in cleaning up toxic waste sites known as Superfund sites. This investment will help finish clean up at 85 sites across the country as well as start clean up at 25 new sites. Many Superfund sites are contained and then left not cleaned for years even decades. Thanks to the Biden-Harris team's investment the EPA has been able to do more clean up of Superfund sites in the last 2 years than the 5 years before it. More than 25% of America's black and hispanic population live with-in 5 miles of a Superfund site.
Bonus: Sweden cleared the final major barrier to become NATO's 32nd member. The Swedish Foreign Minster is expected to fly to Washington to deposit the articles of accession at the US State Department. NATO membership for Sweden and its neighbor Finland (joined last year) has been a major foreign policy goal of President Biden in the face of Russian aggressive against Ukraine. Former President Trump has repeatedly attacked NATO and declared he wants to leave the 75 year old Alliance, even going so far as to tell Russia to "do whatever the hell they want" with European NATO allies

Sometimes working in food and/or retail is annoying because you have to hold your tongue.
The other day I had a customer that was acting like poverty is a choice and that everyone should "pull themselves up by the bootstraps."
They used Supplemental Nutrition Assistance...

"You do realize," he said to Skirata, "that if the troopers were given a choice, most would opt to stay in the army anyway?" "I do. We all prefer the comfort of what we know best." "They'd be as dead as volunteers as they'd be as slaves, Kal." "But they'd have a choice, and that's what makes us free men." "Actually, that's a load of osik. Plenty of free beings in the galaxy don't have a vote and don't get a choice about what they do each day. There's a very blurred line between slavery and economic dependence."

I'm kind of obsessed with the idea that
Since Nova and Magpie seem to have had similar childhood's, both being very rough and in proverty, they can sort of have a mutual understanding that they don't really talk about much.
And I think this could lead Nova, despite being the one who is older and will be an adult much sooner before Magpie, to just. Be okay with some things this CHILD might do and think is normal. When somethings may really really NOT be normal.
I heavily interpret both of them as self sufficient since a young age due to all their trauma and upbringings. So if Nova sees Maggie brooding she'd be more likely to go "haha mood" then "Do you want to talk about it? I'm vry worried for u my dearest bby sister"
Not to say she wouldn't ever have moments of the latter. She doesn't exactly WANT her sister to suffer the way she has. I think she would offer a comfort that would be completely optional and quiet. They don't have to talk about it. They both know.
Plus, being rich/well off from the renegades would be a new experience for both of them lol
Y'know once they get over the drama Maggie started when she stole her bracelet. Once they reach a sibling truce. Nova's problems with Maggie being a thief in the renegades I think would be washed away from
This is my sister omygod I'm kinda proud she's fended for herself all this time HELL YEAH steal from the rich
Breaking down her concepts of good and bad after the renegades trilogy. She most definitely will have to do this to make a better solution than just Renegades or Anarchist
Anyway, if Maggie disappears, all Nova would require is an occasional sign/text/call/picture that confirms yes she is alive. Maybe a location. And it's all good. However Adrian might be like "Dude! You've been missing for 2 weeks what the heck!?!?" meanwhile Maggie climbs back into the apartment at 1 am and Nova's like "cool btw wanna grab some food" and Maggie's irregular sleep schedule is never talked about ever.
I don't think Nova would feel any real urgency to "fix" behaviors Maggie learned. She'd show concerns for some things but she also relates so much that, she doesn't want to force Maggie to do anything. Nova wouldn't really be able to recognize "oh yeah we should both get our asses to the therapists office" without Adrian and friends being like "Dudes."
Which contributes to the importance of Maggie getting tutoring for education she's missed out on being downplayed.
At the same time, I can imagine this would be really important to Maggie since it's basically going at her pace and she still gets comfort that Nova definitely would be open to giving. It reassures them both that they have each other. And Maggie doesn't ever have to think she's alone anymore. Nova gets it. And Nova's her sister. SHE is Nova's sister.

I don't know Saori Kido enough but from my knowledge, there is an interesting difference between Saori Kido and Sasha.
Sasha is Athena who acts more human than goddess.
Saori is Athena who acts more goddess than human.
Let me explain. Throughout the Lost Canvas manga, Sasha talks a lot about how amazing humans are but also how much she loves being a human and the experience of being human. She loves her humanity despite her sufferings and the flaws of being human. Even when she lost her cosmos and divinity as Athena, she was still able to wear the Athena cloth (a cloth specifically for divinity) and stood up against Pandora. Despite the flaws, sins, and suffering of humanity, humans are still capable of strength, hope, and love.
In Saint Seiya, Saori talks about how amazing humans are but that is it. I don't remember or think there was a time that she ever talk about her experience being a human or her humanity. I could be completely wrong about this.
I also think this is also how they were raised and lived differently. Sasha was a poor orphan. Her experience is more similar to the humans in the 18th century. Most of the saints are also like her, orphans living in proverty. When you think of humans, you think of the suffering and sins we go through.
Saori was raised as rich, privileged and spoiled. She was cruel when she was younger. There is nothing wrong with being raised rich and privileged but her lifestyle is more similar to a deity lifestyle. Gods are generally rich, privileged and ignorant to the people's sufferings and the Saint Seiya deities are cruel to humanity. Saori is still a good goddess in her own way as she understood her own flaws and changed herself to be a better goddess. Unlike the other Saint Seiya deities who did not grow to understand humanity, Saori got to know more about her saints and became better.
Due to how Saori was raised, she was much quicker to accept her identity and duty as Athena while Sasha took a lot longer because of how different her old life is compared to her new one.
This is just from my understanding of Sasha and Saori. I could be wrong since I do not know Saori as well as I do with Sasha but what are your thoughts?

The Florida Project (2017)
9/10 : I 100% recommend this movie to all my indie film lovers! This movie is about a young single mother living in Florida, struggling to be a “proper” parent to her young daughter. She faces many struggles in the movie, her biggest struggle being her lack of maturity and living in proverty. This movie will make you laugh, cry, smile, and so much more. This movie reminds me of myself in a way, I can relate to some of the experiences shown in the film due to my childhood and the current life I live now. The last thing I will say, is that this movie not only shows the struggle, it shows the beauty in the struggle. Watch this movie! You will not be disappointed!🌴🛼🎞

Building Newlora ~
“On the end of the highway, that runs next to our dear old Benbirth, is a small town named Newlora. It’s weather might be far from Benbirt’s sunny skies and warm summers, but it still manages to be one of the best crop producers in this side of the world.
However, lately the city near it has started to expand it’s territory. City’s wealthy bussinessmen has seen Newlora’s endless potential and has started to offer it’s locals nice deals out of proverty. So Newlora is going through the question of whether they should embrace the new or fight for the old.”
________
So I have started to build a subhood for Benbirth for a while now. I play it using the same rules as with Benbirth, but I don’t plan on posting about it as often as I post about Benbirth.
Here is some pictures of Newlora’s first community lot :>

Happy STS!
What recurring elements (character archetypes, themes, plotlines, worldbuilding etc.) appear over and over again in your writing, across multiple WIPs?
Thanks for the question!!
Unfortunately for me (and anyone who dislikes long posts) I guess, TFLOC has a lot, and I mean a lot of elements that fit under the criteria you mentioned. Prepare yourself! lol
Character archetypes
There are tons of character archetypes in TFLOC, as one of its themes is diversity. In the original material, Legends of Chima, most (if not all) of the tribes had certain personalities and archetypes depending on their species; ravens were all greedy, eagles were all smart, wolves were all cunning and etc. However, my webcomic's characters are going to be a lot more diverse and complex.
As to not spoil parts of TFLOC, I'll just write a bullet list of the archetypes recurring in the story (although there are way more than those listed). The names were taken off this website:
The Absent Mother; Addict; Anti-Hero; Backstabbing/Bad Friend; Believer; Benevolent Ruler; Childhood Friend; Con Artist; Deformed; Empath; Genius; God/Goddess; Innocent; Non-conformist; Monk; Predator; Patriarch; Peacemaker; Puppeteer.
Themes
My favorite part. LOC by itself has lots of themes that I'm going to emphasize in my webcomic; TFLOC, in its majority, throughout all chapters, have the themes of diversity, anti-war, pacifism, anti-racism, but also trauma, nature vs nurture, human nature and greed, drugs, war, discrimination, the issues with privilege, proverty, generalization and stereotypes, and [anti-]colonialism.
Plotlines
Plotlines... Honestly, all of them are about geopolitics surrounding Chima, but also how the world affects it. How the tribes coexist, the politics of each tribe and how they clash against one another, how Chi affects Chima's society. Everything that happens in TFLOC is because of how the world, and, consequently, the society as well, are. Real life is also like that; after all, TFLOC and LOC are an allegory to human society.
Worldbuilding
Recurring elements in worldbuilding are a little complicated to summarize, because I'm trying to make Chima a living land, with its own ecosystem, tribes and culture, physics and etc. I'd say that Chi is the most important part of TFLOC and LOC's worldbuilding, due to it shaping the technology, culture, behavior, and nature of the animals who consumed it. As more sneak peeks are released, the effect of Chi in the worldbuilding is going to become more obvious.
