stop calling other autistics ableist for treating their autism like a disorder
I don't care if your autism doesn't make you feel disabled you're a minority and you don't get to call the terminology other autistic people use ableist. Especially terms that are useful for level 3/high support needs autistics
If you don't like the levelling system or support labels and think it's the same as functioning labels don't use them on yourself. Stop calling them useless ableist and harmful
People are pretending this doesn't happen anymore but there are still posts and articles and videos everywhere trying to erase terminology useful to many mid-high support needs
If you think it's bad to talk about our differences you're wrong. We can both be a diverse community and have differences that we label. If you want to pretend we're all the same just because we're autistic you've only spent time with autistic people like you
Some autistic people need levels to understand their own needs or find other autistic people they can relate to
Some people call themselves a person with autism instead because that's what they're comfortable with
Some autistic people don't like that they're autistic and find it hugely disabling and struggle to find positives in it
Some autistic people say they are severely autistic because of how disabling their autism is
Some autistic people look autistic and cant mask
Some autistic people still use functioning labels on themselves because it's familiar and helps them and it's what they're comfortable with
Some autistic people say they have a disorder condition disability or ASD because that's what they're comfortable with
If you want to treat your autism like just a difference we're not stopping you. If you want to treat everyone's autism like just a difference then we have problems
If a label doesn't help you that's fine. Don't speak on how helpful labels that never even applied to you are. If you think all autistics with higher support needs are incapable of knowing what's ableist so you have to talk over them you are wrong.

okay i might delete this later but i have a question.
does anyone else who's autistic feel like they don't have a real culture* or feel removed from the culture their supposed to have/be apart of? i get the feeling often and of course it partially due to the fact that i'm american and black- (i don't think i need to explain that)
then i realized that in most definitions culture is adopted by individuals through socialization and as an autistic person, socialization is much harder so that may be a factor?? also in some cultures specifically the food my have certain textures or the music/dances might be frustrating sensory wise? to the point that you feel removed from it and would rather avoid it?
or maybe i'm the only one and this theory is wrong lol and i have absolutely no real reason to feel like this.
*by culture i'm referring to things like clothing, dances, celebrations, feelings of togetherness/pride, etc. not just stuff like.. expectations/morality/"common sense"/etc.
if you're wondering why i tagged academia its because i thought of this while under certain poc academia tags and had feelings as to why some look soo... "cultural" for lack of a better word while others didn’t
edit: while i'm not upset that white people are replying (and you still can) i was particularly looking for black and poc voices (especially black americans)

Neurotypical behavior is fucking laughable! Y’all literally laugh at us for doing the same normal things that y’all do. You hang out with people you don’t like y’all don’t even like yourselves but you go along with it anyway because that’s how it’s supposed to be? Yet we are the weirdos for just… existing? Minding our own business? How the hell do they even sniff us out I don’t even fucking know you!

Hello, I am looking for book or texts about autism and autistic experiences to read. I am a white Australian who's been recently diagnosed with autism/ADHD and everything I've read so far has been white and/or from a western pov (mostly American if not then British). I would really like to read outside of what is commonly offered and would love some book recommendations!
(My psychologist said she was looking for experiences from German or Finnish autistic ppl, so if someone would have any that would be nice!)
I want to learn about autism in different cultures. Often autism is diagnosed because of difficultly of fitting in society or along those lines. However any discussion of autism is nearly always placed in a white, western perspective. I would like to learn more about other cultures and autistic people from other cultures.
If you don't have any book recs, then I am also fine about reading something from you! I love to read other people blabbering about their life, so you won't annoy me!!!
(yes you can also include ADHD. In fact just anything would be really nice)

Everyone love autism until the person needs someone to remind them or help do things like bathe, change clothes, and use the bathroom.
Everyone love autism until they need to be told what to do in social interactions and still can’t do it correctly.
Everyone love autism until they can’t communicate in the way you deem appropriate. Until they need other ways to communicate because they can’t verbally do it. They love autism until they can’t communicate even if they have aac. until they have NO (no) ways to communicate because they don’t understand they can.
Everyone loves autism until they can’t sit down and stop moving. Until they grunt or moan or make random sounds. Love until moves around and not even realize that their moving.
Everyone loves the idea of autism until it’s not level one low support needs. And not fair that high support needs, medium support needs, level 3, level 2 autistics get so much hate for things can’t help. They should still be loved!

Welcome!!
(this intro was mostly typed by my carer with my direct input)
About Autibear!
🐻 I'm autibear or tanner/tilly, I'm 26, and my pronouns are they/he and the neopronouns ve/bear/grr/freak/queer (if you don't understand them that's okay!)
🧸 I'm a black and multiply disabled, level 3 autistic person, and I'm nonverbal. I struggle with understanding, movement, reading, socialising, and similar things. I use disability aids and aac/tts devices
🐻 I have limited interests and attention span. I would like to make friends on here in messages or on my Discord (.transautisticbearcub) but it can be difficult to engage in conversations with me
🧸 I'll mostly be talking about my disabled/poc/queer experiences. I won't talk about the specifics of my other disabilities besides autism much because I find them hard to understand, spell, and distinguish from autism. I may especially mix up my adhd or ocd symptoms with my autism
🐻 I am non-binary and pansexual, other information about me is on my carrd below!

regarding my post about culture (+ autism and academia), i'm not talking about feeling or being accepted by the people of your culture but instead feeling like it's your culture.
to me, a culture is supposed to feel like home. it's supposed to be that comforting feeling of love that says "hey this is for you"
so yeah i have a culture in the sense that i'm a human being in society and i have a specific heritage (even though i can’t even get know the exact details of said heritage.. thanks racism, colonialism, slavery, imperialism, etc. 😒). but i don't have a culture in a sense of "this is where i feel belonging" — not yet anyway.
maybe eventually i feel at home with black american culture, maybe i'll find out the details of the cultures of my heritage, maybe i'll move to another country and adopt the culture of the people, maybe i'll adopt my future partner's culture. when that happens i can proudly say "i have a culture and i belong here and it belongs with me"
anyways yeah just wanted to expand on how i was feeling a bit
