We here at Dummies & D20s will be beginning our second campaign in May!
Why not spend some time between now and then binging our first series?
Whispers of Ruin follows a group of shinobi, years after their childhoods were ruined by a village tragedy, on a quest for revenge. To some, it's duty. To others, it's more personal. The campaign uses a modified 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons ruleset, themed after the popular anime Naruto!

If someone were to make a tabletop game (rpg or otherwise) about smashing monsters consensually, what would you want to see in it? What would get you to take a look at how it plays? Very open ended question I know, but I’m sure there’s a market for this.
Marked sexual themes because obviously, and I'm putting a break in since I'm more straightforward than usual. And non rebloggable so my friends don't find me mentioning this XD
If a TTRPG, I'd go for something rules-lite to keep the game flowing and fun, like Rapscallion's Vice & Violence: Salacious Sword & Sorcery Adventures for the Uninhibited & Unhinged. Haven't actually played it, but back in college my group did try to make a game like it. And in my experience it just doesn't work as much once the novelty wears off? Fun for a session, but it's a gimmick, and those tend to fizzle fast unless EVERYTHING lines up perfect. Doubly so with one like this, as it's hard to just keep that up that energy the whole time, for EVERYONE to, and to match desires for how the smashing goes.
It could work for some specific groups, but I feel like the market for a TTRPG of that isn't anywhere near as large as people think it is. And this is the sort of thing that's up my alley, my first video as an adult was me and my pals reading naruto hentai. My voice went on the internet for the first time by pretending to be Hinata full of dicks, everyone laughing cause I actually shoved something down my throat for more realistic line reads (I always FULLY commit to a bit). So it's not like my group is prudes or something, we would talk about or read or watch shit together without batting an eye last I tried this sorta thing. but playing is a whole different beast.
Now one of those fancy board games could get really interesting, THAT I think has more staying power. A card battler where you're trying to wear opponents out, or a game where you're trying to get (and keep satisfied) a variety of monsters partners, or maybe just a normal board game where you're scoring by...well, scoring. Maybe different monsters are worth different points, or you're trying to fuck as many as possible? Hell, just a board game version of monster prom would work wonderfully!
So to answer your question I guess, to draw me in it'd have to be more like a party game. Rules-lite TTRPG based around one-shots and short campaigns, or a board/card game that takes a few hours but commits hard to the theme.

Why do we judge Sakura with the same expectations as Naruto and Sasuke? First of all, they both come from legendary clans with special abilities or literal demons shoved in them. Sakura had to work for every little ability she had, she had no boosts like the other two.
ALSO, and this is the one that ticks me off the most, she is a HEALING ninja. She is a healer, her strongest asset is her ability to HEAL people on the battle field. Can she fight? Absolutely, baby girl is incredibly strong and is great at taijutsu, but that is not her main strength. Sakura is put up against her boys who are major offense style ninjas, of course they’re going to be more powerful in the fighting arena, because that’s their specialty.
People use the same parameters to judge them, Sasuke can’t heal like Sakura does, but no one sits there and judges him constantly. To have a balanced team, you need to have your offensive AND defensive forces. People that dislike her clearly don’t know how to accurately play RPG because you gotta be balanced to win.
And of course there is the misogynistic aspect of it all. All these woman haters who can’t bear the fact that Sakura didn’t choose their fav to love, that she is there to satisfy their weird fantasy of their own dream girl choosing them. This goes for the yaoi shippers too, like getting so mad over the fact she “gets in the way of my ship”. If it pisses you off that much that you send death threats to the voice actor, maybe get off the internet and touch grass for a little bit cause damn, live in the real world for a little while.
Sakura is a realistic depiction of a woman who has her desires and faults and thats why I love her so much. She’s so real and accurate to a real person, she’s made mistakes and grown from them. The more people hate her, the more I love her. 🌸

lowkey feel like Naruto's a strict console only player. He tried to play on PC, but found it too complicated to use. shit me too Naruto.

Do u have any favourite games or manga :?
this is going to be a long post... i don't even think anyone will care to read it, but whatever... i don't care.
games -
i've been getting into osu! recently again. maybe i'll post some of my scores here. i think i'm pretty good.
overwatch, fortnite, etc have been fun on and off, but i can never get that invested. i don't really like playing with people online anyway, it just reminds me how much everyone sucks in general.
i like rpgs and stuff because i can show off my achievements to my darling easily in those usually. final fantasy, persona, whatever. visual novels are fun too, but i've gotten more picky with those lately...
and i like to practice games that couples usually play, like minecraft and stardew valley, just so that i can impress my darling with my skills once they do come live with me!
also any h-game where u can customize the characters are great. for obvious reasons... who wouldn't want to get off to their darling instead of some randos?? i've had fun with ai shoujo and honeyselect, but even with how much customization there is in those two, it's not like the character ends up looking that much like them... but even a semblence of similarity is better than nothing, though!
i guess i would try any game once though. let me know if anyone has any suggestions of things to play.
manga -
listing all of my favorites would take a while. i've been into manga for a long time, it's basically all i read.
i mean, i've liked naruto since i was a kid, the characters are so cool. dattebayo!! i think i would be part of the uchiha clan if i isekai'd into that world.
death note is one of my favorites too! i tried making my own death note a while back but it didn't work (not sure why), so i just use it as a sketchbook now. maybe i'll try again later. what i wouldn't give for a real one though...
uhh... i love anything with male yanderes that i can relate to also, or at least stalkers/slashers. tonari no seki no hen na senpai is fun to space out to and imagine myself in the guy's place, just as long as i can imagine the protag as my love, of course. that could be us if we worked in an office together... though i don't really get why the protagonist was so scared of that guy? obviously that would be different in our case...
i'll also always pick up any random romance manga if it has a love interest or protag that looks like my darling. it's nice since i can just imagine myself as any black-haired anime protag. and then i can daydream about doing fun things with my love!!
kind of related too. my pfp is from killer in love, which i picked up just because i thought i could relate to this character after seeing him around, but for some reason he ended up being like an antagonist? that was a really random choice... i wish i could rewrite it to make him get with the protagonist, i really don't know why they made him out to be so weird... so i guess i don't recommend that one. but it's just an example.
... oh yeah, and tokyo ghoul is another long-term favorite of mine. so cool.
honestly i need to make a myanimelist account at some point so you all can see how much i've read/watched, cause i'm sure it's way more than most of you.

Lol that’s pretty fair considering you don’t know how I roll. I’ve seen dbz, naruto, fma, fairy tail, ygo, inuyasha, demon slayer to name a few and played a widespread of rpgs too XD
Either way ya wanna know what I think about Kurama. My boy Kurama is the definition of ‘if looks could kill’. To be honest he was the first choice for me to portray but that fox is not just clever but he’s freaking smart and I don’t think my dumbass would do him any justice. Granted I wouldn’t have to even try to write as him now cause there’s someone that already does a phenomenal job (always here to compliment the homies). Either way Kurama’s introduction was that of a momma’s boy and I do mean that in a positive light. From what little we knew about him at the start is that Koenma considered him a big deal and he was MORE than willing to sacrifice his life for his mother.
From then on I’d say Kurama had been a sort of ‘mother’ to the group, the person that they can go to if they needed sage advice. I love that he was such a bro to Kuwabara too, the man was an excellent leader. Why I thought so? Well as far as we knew he was a demon that ran into a woman’s womb and turning his mother into a japanese virgin mary. Also given that Hiei mentioned (in the anime) that the reason he looked for Kurama was so he doesn’t have to fight him himself gave us an idea that this man could box and YET he was training a human. Where Hiei gave blunt criticism Kurama offered encouraging positivity.
You know me, I like that. Ate that up. Let’s not forget the fact that this man is also a ride and die type of person for his homies, man was willing to fight one of the Three Kings all FOR YUSUKE. You know what it’s like to go into a man’s house, go into his fridge, take his drinks and then say ‘bruh if you so as much as breath on this man, you better upheave them hands’. NAH MAN, Kurama is also my GOAT.
NOW let’s mention the brilliance that is the duality of Shuichi and Kurama. LORD watching up to the dark tournament we’ve only heard stories of the legendary bandit and during that one fight WE GOT TO SEE the legendary bandit. Not just aesthetically but on a personal level too. I’m not gonna say Shuichi is a punk because push comes to shove the man will KILL you. But KURAMA!?!?!? HOOOOOOOOO, the shit YOKO KURAMA does really lets you know that he was the one. We let Yoko cook and find out that the enemies were the ingredients. Do we need to remember WHAT he did to the older Toguro?? NAH man, this man is a demon.

What is your opinion on Naruto fans that attack other IPs for supposedly "copying" from them?
Case in point - I play Onmyoji by Netease, a turn-based RPG where certain aspects of Japanese folklore and mythology. They were quiet about it until the three Japanese gods (Susanoo, Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu) came into the game.
Susanoo in the game is a single target shikigami that uses lighting since Susanoo in myth is the god of storms. It just so happens that NE's Susanoo created a giant avatar of himself made from pure lightning in his summon animation so these Naruto "fans" started accusing NE of copying Naruto when if you know how Naruto's Susanoo works and looks like, the humanoid figure is chakra based and much like other MSharingan abilities, it is taxing to the body and its different. Again, NE's Susanoo's giant avatar is just himself while Naruto's Susanoo looks like a Tengu from Japanese myth. The only similarity between the two is that both are giants and that's it. Both look different, their composition is different.
They didn't even stop when Amaterasu dropped in the game. She arrived two weeks ago and during a skills video released by the game, one Naruto fan commented that she was boring due to not having the Sharingan. I can't help myself but comment that the Sharingan abilities are based on Japanese myth and the three ones used when MS is activated are named after the three Japanese gods, one of which is the goddess he/she called boring.
Don't get me started when they attack other IPs when those IPs adapted their own take of the Sannins, which were originally from a Japanese folktale that Kishi himself looked into for the Sannins. Even Jiraiya's "Toad Hermit" and Tsunade's "Slug Princess" nicknames came from the folktale, not from Kishi's.
They also attack One Piece when Admiral Ryokugyu of One Piece debuted his forest based devil fruit "copied" Mokuton techinques from Naruto. The irony on this is that Kishi and Oda are friendly rivals.
Taking inspiration from another work is a common occurence but accusing one work of outright copying without proof is also equally stupid.
Yeah it’s really stupid. Everything Japanese is based on Japanese things and lore and people who think Naruto/Kishimoto owns ancient Japanese mythology and culture are dumb

I am a generally anti-AI person, but in the use of fan translations, especially in the cases of menu systems in RPGs, I am wondering what your stance/what the conversation around using AI tools in fan translations are. Additionally, I'm incredibly hype for Naruto RPG 2!!! And I hope Code Geass progress is going well. I played and beat all that was translated from the old translation. I feel like that's a really special game for Code Geas fans. Thank you for undertaking it! xoxo love mom
Hey, it's been a while!
Well, first I feel that I should preface this by saying that these are just my (Phantom's) thoughts, so may not be representative of the team as a whole. Personally, I've never used generative AI such as ChatGPT for translation, but I have used machine translators like Google Translate/DeepL, and I think they can be useful tools. They can produce results at great speed, and give ideas about words/synonyms to use. The problem is, I believe, when someone tries to use the raw output with little to no editing.
Machine translators are *usually* more reliable with nouns/short phrases (such as those you'd find in a menu), over sentences and paragraphs, but even then, they can still get confused. To take an example from Code Geass, if a machine translator were to be believed, the game-original characters Castor and Pollux (named after the mythological figures), would be called Caster and Parax. As an experiment, I also asked Gemini (Google's AI assistant), which took it one step further, 'correcting' the Japanese input I gave it パラックス - parakkusu to パララックス - pararakkusu, meaning parallax, which is interesting. Unlike a human translator, AI/machine translators don't know if what you gave them is "correct", and can't pick up on whether information is missing (as can be the case when dumping scripts from a game).
So, I guess my TL;DR is machine and AI translators can be a useful and convenient aid, but they can't and shouldn't be used to replace humans. (Or used as an excuse to pay human translators less for "reviewing" machine translated text, for that matter.)

And then when I started out on Apex, I played pretty much only mixtapes until I was like level 50 or something.
